Jeff Hardy: ‘I’m going to AEW’

Jeff Hardy says he is AEW-bound.

“I’m going to AEW,” Hardy said as he was interviewed by Jared Myers during a meet-and-greet in Louisville Kentucky on February 19.

Video of the interview can be seen below. The AEW comment comes at the 7:16 mark.

Post Wrestling confirmed with Myers that Hardy confirmed that he is headed to AEW when his 90-day WWE non-compete clause expires. Hardy was released by WWE on December 9, 2021 following an incident during a house show where Hardy left the ring during a match.

Hardy issued a statement on social media today addressing his comments:

The house show incident has since been parodied on AEW television, with Tony Schiavone making reference to “erratic behavior” during a Matt Hardy segment on the February 9 Dynamite.

Dave Meltzer reported on January 28 in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Hardy was likely going to AEW if he did not return to WWE, and also reported that WWE had reached out to Hardy in an attempt to bring him back into the fold, including offering a WWE Hall of Fame induction, but Hardy turned the Hall of Fame offer down.

Meltzer wrote:

Hardy is still under contract with WWE through 3/9 so AEW can’t make a legal offer to him, but the belief is that unless he goes back to WWE, which at this point doesn’t look like it will happen, he would be AEW bound.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy will reunite at a Big Time Wrestling event on March 12, the first time the duo have teamed in three years.

WWE tried to get Jeff Hardy to return, offered Hall of Fame induction

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE made an attempt to get Jeff Hardy to return to the company after releasing him.

Meltzer reported that WWE’s John Laurinaitis called Hardy a few weeks ago attempting to get him to return. The offer included inducting Hardy into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of this year’s class, but Hardy turned it down:

Here is an update on Jeff Hardy. John Laurinaitis called Jeff Hardy to get him back a few weeks ago, including an offer to put him in the 2022 Hall of Fame class. Hardy turned it down and asked for his drug test results because he knew he wasn’t going to test positive for recreational drugs. It took Hardy and his wife six weeks to get the results back. There is a feeling right now that this is one guy they don’t want in AEW because of the realization the Hardy Boys will be revitalized as an act given the level of teams like the Young Bucks, FTR, Santana & Ortiz, Penta & Fenix and so many others. Hardy is still under contract with WWE through 3/9 so AEW can’t make a legal offer to him, but the belief is that unless he goes back to WWE, which at this point doesn’t look like it will happen, he would be AEW bound.

Hardy was released by WWE on December 9 after being sent home from a house show tour. During a six-man tag match at WWE’s house show in Edinburg, Texas on December 4, Hardy left through the crowd after tagging out. Hardy was sent home an didn’t wrestle at the next night’s event in Corpus Christi.

Matt Hardy said on a Twitch stream after Jeff’s release that he thought WWE may have jumped the gun by releasing his brother.

“Before anyone rushes to judgment, obviously they [WWE] drug tested him after all this stuff, wait until you hear the results of that and when that comes back clean then hopefully people will feel better about it,” Matt said.

“They [WWE] felt like they were backed into a corner because of his [Jeff’s] history. Even though they may have jumped the gun with this a little bit, they made a decision and it is what it is.”

The Hardy Boyz are set to reunite in the ring at Big Time Wrestling’s show in Webster, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 12. It will be the first time Matt & Jeff have teamed together in three years.

The Hardy Boyz to reunite for Big Time Wrestling

The Hardy Boyz are reuniting in the ring for the first time since 2019.

Big Time Wrestling has announced that Matt & Jeff Hardy will team together at their show in Webster, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 12. Matt & Jeff’s opponents for the show have yet to be announced.

Big Time Wrestling’s graphic for the show notes that it will be part of The Hardy Boyz’s 2022 tour.

“HARDY BOYZ TEAM FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS! Saturday March 12th! Webster, Mass! MORE TOUR DATES TO COME!,” Big Time Wrestling wrote.

In December, Jeff Hardy was released by WWE after being sent home from a house show tour. Hardy teamed with Drew McIntyre & Xavier Woods against Roman Reigns & The Usos at WWE’s house show in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday, December 4. After tagging out during the match, Hardy left through the crowd. He was sent home and didn’t wrestle at WWE’s event in Corpus Christi the next night.

Matt Hardy said on a Twitch stream after Jeff’s release that WWE may have jumped the gun by releasing his brother. Jeff appeared with Matt on Twitch earlier this month and was also a guest on the first episode of Matt’s “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast. The podcast episode was focused on The Hardy Boyz’s ladder match against Edge & Christian at No Mercy 1999.

Jeff has also recently been on an acoustic concert/meet and greet tour.

The last time that The Hardyz teamed together was prior to Matt departing WWE. Matt signed with AEW after his WWE contract expired in March 2020.

Jeff Hardy appears on Twitch, will guest on new Matt Hardy podcast

Jeff Hardy appeared on Sunday’s House Hardy Twitch stream hosted by Matt Hardy and Reby Hardy, where Matt revealed that Jeff will be the first guest on his new podcast.

On the first episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt and Jeff will discuss the 1999 ladder match at WWF No Mercy, featuring The Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian. The podcast debuts on January 7.

Matt’s co-host Jon Alba tweeted:

I’m not bulls*****ng you and saying this to promote my podcast. The 45 minutes that Jeff spends on this podcast with Matt are some of the coolest 45 minutes you’ll hear in pro wrestling podcasting, breaking down a match that made four careers. Get ready for @matthardypod”

Jeff had previously appeared on the House Hardy stream in a pre-recorded video promo, but never live. Jeff also promoted his upcoming concert dates in Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota on Sunday’s stream.

Jeff was sent home by WWE following an incident at a December 4 house show, then released by the company on December 9. Matt has gone on record in saying that WWE may have jumped the gone in releasing Jeff.

Jeff Hardy announces acoustic concert tour

Jeff Hardy will be hitting the road for an acoustic concert tour.

The ex-WWE star has announced a series of acoustic music performances, paired with meet-and-greets. The tour begins Thursday, December 16 in Milwaukee, and will have eight dates in total. Tickets for the shows are available here.

Hardy will play December 17 in Rosemont, Illinois, December 18 in Rockford Illinois, and December 19 in Des Moines, Iowa. The tour will continue in January with dates in Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota on January 13, 14, 15 and 16.

WWE sent Hardy home after a house show in Edinburg, Texas on December 4. The company then announced his release on December 9 after he refused to go to rehab at WWE’s request. During a Twitch stream on Monday night, brother Matt Hardy said that WWE had drug tested Jeff following the incident in Edinburg, but that he was sure the test would come back clean.

Matt Hardy: WWE may have ‘jumped the gun’ releasing Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy took to Twitch tonight with a promise to address the status of brother Jeff Hardy, who was released by WWE last week.

During the stream, Matt repeatedly stated that he is not worried about Jeff, and stated that WWE “may have jumped the gun” in releasing Jeff. Hardy was sent home after a WWE house show in Edinburg, Texas on December 4. His release was announced on December 9.

Even though they may have jumped the gun with this a little bit, they made a decision and it is what it is,” Matt said.

Matt also said that WWE asked Jeff to go to rehab, but Jeff refused because he did not think he needed to go, “And I don’t think he did either,” said Matt.

“Jeff is in the best place I’ve seen him in a very long time,” said Matt. “As far as the details of what went down on that evening, and in that match, I’ve talked with Jeff, I feel good about everything he said and that’s Jeff’s story to share. And he told me he will when he’s ready to.”

Also on the stream, Matt and Reby Hardy said that they have talked to Jeff about starting a Twitch channel and doing music and art streams. Matt also said that Jeff was excited to start doing Cameo video messages, and that the two would like to do more Final Deletion-style matches together.

December 13, 2021 Observer Newsletter: Jeff Hardy released by WWE, death of Blackjack Lanza

Jeff Hardy was released by the WWE on 12/9, due to turning down being ordered to go to rehab after an incident at the 12/4 house show in Edinburg, TX.

According to WWE sources, Hardy was asked to go to rehab after the incident at the show and then refused. They said that Hardy was fully aware that if he did refuse, WWE would have to take action.

The decision was made to let him go rather than suspend him, and he was given a similar 90-day non-compete period where he would be paid through 3/9 when he would become a free agent.

Given his track record, there was really no other decision WWE could make. They had to request he go to rehab because of his track record and his being impaired in a main event match. When he refused the request, there was no choice but to let him go. WWE did this with full knowledge there was at least a chance Hardy would be signed by AEW and would likely be a major star there. But once Hardy refused to go to rehab, WWE’s hands were tied. Whether AEW hires him is a different issue. This type of situation is nothing new for Hardy, and both TNA and WWE had, over and over, hired him after the other had let him go for these same reasons. And in most cases, the end of the story ended up the same. Essentially the story is that if it’s not on our watch, it doesn’t count when a major star is available. And if it was under your watch and let him go, if it’s another place where he’s let go from, it’s like whatever happened previously under your watch doesn’t count. But that’s just WWE and TNA’s past history. Current decisions are different and AEW has never had a situation like this where fans and talent would want him and he would help the product at least at first and create new opportunities, but at the same time, there is a long track record right there.

Jeff Hardy released by WWE

Jeff Hardy has been released by WWE, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.

No other details are known as the time of this writing. Sapp said that he was told “WWE offered Jeff Hardy help and rehab and it was not accepted.”

Hardy was sent home following a WWE house show event in Edinburg, Texas, where he was teaming with Xavier Woods and Drew McIntyre against Roman Reigns and The Usos. After working most of the match, reports were that Hardy got more sluggish as the match went on and following a hot tag to McIntyre, he left through the crowd and didn’t return.

He was replaced by Rey Mysterio on Sunday’s house show in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had most recently been on the November 26th SmackDown in a battle royal for a WWE Universal title shot, getting eliminated last by winner Sami Zayn.

His brother, Matt, said this week that he had spoken with Jeff and that he was at home and doing okay.

The 44-year-old was in his third run with the company after returning with Matt in a surprise at WrestleMania in 2017. Hardy has run afoul of the law several times, spending ten days in jail in 2011 for a 2009 drug bust and arrest for trafficking controlled prescription pills.

He was arrested for public intoxication in July 2019 and in October 2019, he was arrested and charged with DUI in North Carolina.

TUESDAY NEWS UPDATE

WWE

  • Matt Hardy addressed Jeff being sent home from the road during his Twitch stream on Monday, saying “I did speak to Jeff for a little bit today, and he’s okay, he’s good, and I think he’ll be fine, but once again this isn’t my business, and if he wants to go into it in more detail, then he’ll do it himself. But Jeff is okay, he is at home, and he’s okay.”

He’s so great out there, as tough as nails. He’s gone out of his way to help and give me advice. He’s a fantastic human being and performer, and I can’t say enough good things about Johnny Gargano.”
  • The piece also had comments from Cora Jade, who spoke about her winning the women’s WarGames match. “I started crying and it was such raw emotion,” said Jade regarding scoring the pinfall in the match. “I fell in love with this when I was eight. It’s what I’ve wanted and worked for over the past 12 years. To go into the back after the match, after a WarGames match, and have people like Shawn Michaels and Road Dogg shake my hand, it’s the craziest, most amazing thing.”
  • Breakker also spoke with Times Now News about his goals in NXT and the WWE.
  • WWE has partnered with White Castle and GrubHub for meals that can be ordered through the GrubHub delivery service. They include:
The Natalya meal: four impossible sliders, 3 piece cheese stick and a small Coke zero sugar for $8.36

  • Sports Illustrated has an interview with MJF, talking about his feud with CM Punk. Regarding Edge’s comments on the promo on a recent episode of Raw: “They’re just trying to make their show the best they possibly can. I’m not mad, I completely understand it. And who knows, I might be working with those two guys in 2024. And that line by Punk about me being a ‘less famous Miz,’ that resonated because people used to actually think that. But I’m smart enough to know better. My match last month at Full Gear against Darby Allin proved otherwise. I am equally as outstanding in the ring as I am on the stick. That match with Darby proved I’m anything but one-dimensional.”
  • On Twitter, Anthony Ogogo challenged Jake Paul to a match after Tommy Fury pulled out of the fight. “@jakepaul you s******,” Ogogo wrote. “I’ve seen one British tv star / sporting heartthrob has pulled out. This tv star / sporting heartthrob will happily take his place on 12 days notice. I haven’t had a pair of gloves on in 3 years but I’ll still spank you like the bitch you are. Fight me!“ It has since been announced that Tyron Woodley will fill in for Fury, setting up a rematch between him and Paul.

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and I will be back tonight talking Raw, NXT War Games, people whose contracts are expiring, Jeff Hardy and more with Wrestling Observer Radio tonight. You can send in questions for the show to [email protected]

Regarding Jeff Hardy, WWE hasn’t responded to any questions about his situation. Essentially on the Saturday night show in Edinburg, TX, Hardy & Xavier Woods & Drew McIntyre were facing Roman Reigns & The Usos in the main event.  Hardy worked most of the match and then disappeared during the match and wasn’t there at the end. He was sent home and didn’t work in Corpus Christi, TX, last night, and WWE had to change that card around including several  wrestlers there not wrestling because Rey Mysterio was moved to the main event and they didn’t have a partner for Dominik against Chad Gable & Otis.

Raw tonight has Big E vs. Kevin Owens in the second of three straight WWE nights with cage matches. It’s a non-title match from Memphis. Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan for the women’s title is the other main event, plus Miz TV with Edge. Raw goes against a Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots game on ESPN.

NXT has Kyle O’Reilly vs. Von Wagner on NXT tomorrow.

Tommy Fury pulled out of his 12/18 PPV boxing match with Jake Paul from the Amalie Arena in Tampa due to a medical issue that was not released. So Tyron Woodley will get his rematch with Paul after all on 12 days notice in an eight-round fight at 192 pounds (Woodley fought in MMA at 170).  Paul beat Woodley in their first fight, largely due to Woodley being hesitant to throw.  Woodley had wanted a rematch and Paul had blown him off saying he already beat him.  It probably will still do some PPV business but I expect it will be well down from their first fight.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has announced his first MMA show in the U.S. for his Eagle FC promotion on 1/18 in Miami. Rashad Evans comes out of retirement on the show. Tyrone Spong vs. Big Foot Silva is the main event. Silva really shouldn’t be licensed to fight having been knocked out in eight of his last ten fights between MMA and Bare Knuckle. But it’s Florida.

WWE

  • WWE tonight and AEW Wednesday are doing last minute ticket price cuts on unsold seats.

AEW

  • Wednesday’s show at the UBS Arena in Long Island  has topped 9,000 tickets out.  Announced so far are The Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal, Young Bucks vs. Chuck Taylor & Rocky Romero, Jamie Hayter vs.  Riho and Bryan Danielson vs. John Silver.
  • Mei Suruga is returning to Japan.

UFC

  • Amanda Ribas vs. Michelle Waterson is being looked at for 3/26 according to MMA Fighting.
  • Caio Borralho is being looked at to fight Jamie Pickett on 1/15.  Borralho was to debut on 12/18 but visa issues got in the way.
  • Julia Avila is out of her 12/18 scheduled fight with Raquel Pennington due to a knee injury according to MMA Fighting.

OTHER NOTES

  • Adam Scherr, the former Braun Strowman, will be in action for Northeast Wrestling on 1/21 in Waterbury, CT at John F. Kennedy High School.  Also listed as appearing is Matt Taven, Erick Redbeard (Rowan), Dan Maff, Sgt. Slaughter, Mercedes Martinez, Flip Gordon,Vinnie Marseglia and Wrecking Ball Legursky.
  • There is a fundraiser for Give Kids the World Village from 12/9 to 12/11 and feature appearances by Mick Foley, Matt Riddle, Scotty 2 Hotty, Raquel Gonzalez, Kacy Catanzaro, Kayden Carter, Robert Stone, Odyssey Jones, Xyon Quinn, Grayson Waller and Noelle Foley.  The event takes place at Give Kids the World at 210 S. For a $200 donation you can get autographs with everyone in attendance plus photos with everyone and a poster.
  • Scott Garland, the former The Scotty 2 Hotty, noted his WWE non-compete will end on 12/23 and he is looking to return to wrestling all over the world.

Report: Jeff Hardy sent home following WWE house show match

Jeff Hardy was reportedly sent home following a match that took place over the weekend at a WWE house show event.

PWInsider reported tonight that Jeff Hardy was sent home from the road and did not appear at tonight’s house show in Corpus Christi, Texas. On Saturday, he teamed with Xavier Woods and Drew McIntyre against The Bloodline (Roman Reigns and The Usos) at a event in Edinburg, Texas. He spent most of the match in the ring and was said to be more sluggish as the match continued. He reportedly made a hot tag to McIntyre then walked out through the crowd, followed by security, and did not return to the ring after Woods and McIntyre won.

Rey Mysterio replaced Hardy in the match on tonight’s show.

Hardy last wrestled on television on the November 26th edition of SmackDown, the last person eliminated in a battle royal to determine the next number one contender for the WWE Universal title. Hardy was dumped to the floor by Sami Zayn, who ended up losing his championship match on this week’s SmackDown.

On WWE’s The Bump this morning, it was announced that Jeff Hardy will be Steve Austin’s guest on this month’s edition of Broken Skull Sessions. The episode will be uploaded to Peacock/WWE Network on Thursday, November 25.

Hardy changed brands in the WWE Draft last month, joining the SmackDown roster. He was involved in a feud with Austin Theory on Raw before officially moving to SmackDown.

Seth Rollins was interviewed by Austin on the most recent Broken Skull Sessions episode prior to this. The Undertaker, Goldberg, Kane, Big Show, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Mark Henry, Jerry Lawler, Kurt Angle, Drew McIntyre, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, The Godfather, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, and Bobby Lashley have also appeared on the show previously.

Peacock also lists that WWE’s Ruthless Aggression docuseries will return with new episodes on Sunday, November 21 and Monday, November 22. That has yet to be officially announced by WWE. The first season of the docuseries debuted in 2020.

Jeff Hardy added to United States title match at WWE Extreme Rules

The United States Championship match at Extreme Rules is now a triple threat.

United States Champion Damian Priest will defend his title against Sheamus and Jeff Hardy in a triple threat match at Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Hardy got added to the match by defeating Sheamus on Raw tonight.

Hardy hit the Twist of Fate and went for a Swanton Bomb during tonight’s match, but Sheamus got his knees up. But when Sheamus went for White Noise, Hardy slipped out and pinned Sheamus to get the win.

Priest was on commentary for Sheamus vs. Hardy.  Following the match, a brawl between Priest and Sheamus was broken up by officials. The brawl began when Sheamus got in Priest’s face and shoved him.

Priest won the United States title from Sheamus at SummerSlam last month. On Raw last week, Priest retained the title against Hardy after Hardy answered his open challenge.

Sheamus became the number one contender to Priest’s title by defeating Drew McIntyre on Raw two weeks ago.
