Six-man tag match to headline Impact Wrestling

A preview of the Slammiversary main event will take place on Impact Wrestling this week.

This Thursday’s episode of Impact will see Impact World Champion Josh Alexander & Impact Tag Team Champions The Briscoes team up as they take on Violent By Design (Eric Young, Joe Doering & Deaner) in a six-man tag match. Alexander is set to defend his title against Young at Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary pay-per-view on Sunday, June 19.

Alexander vs. Young was made official for Slammiversary after Young won a Gauntlet for the Gold match on Impact two weeks ago.

At Under Siege earlier this month, The Briscoes defeated Young & Deaner to win the Impact Tag Team titles. The Briscoes then retained against Doering & Deaner on Impact last week. Young attacked The Briscoes after the match, but Alexander ran out to save The Briscoes from Violent By Design.

Here’s the updated lineup for this Thursday’s Impact:

  • Josh Alexander & The Briscoes vs. Violent By Design (Eric Young, Joe Doering & Deaner)
  • Frankie Kazarian vs. Chris Sabin
  • Masha Slamovich vs. Havok
  • Slammiversary Ultimate X qualifying match: Trey Miguel vs. Alex Shelley
  • Jordynne Grace vs. Chelsea Green
  • Bhupinder Gujjar & W. Morrissey vs. Shera & Raj Singh

The Briscoes win Impact Tag Team titles at Under Siege

The Briscoes have added more hardware to their already impressive resumes, earning their first-ever Impact Tag Team title win at Saturday’s Under Siege.

Jay & Mark Briscoe defeated Violent by Design (Deaner & Eric Young) to take the titles, pinning Deaner after hitting a doomsday device and ending the 64-day second reign for VBD.

The brothers returned to Impact for last month’s Multiverse of Matches against the Good Brothers — their first match back in the promotion since the NWA/TNA days in November 2002.

They returned at the post-Rebellion TV tapings several weeks later where they defeated Heath and Rhino to earn the title shot.

The duo are also chasing the NWA Tag Team titles held by La Rebellion and the GCW Tag Team titles held by Bussy (Effy and Allie Katch). They won this year’s Crockett Cup tag team tournament in the NWA and are also 12-time Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions and former IWGP Tag Team Champions.

PWG reveals Delivering the Goods replacement for The Briscoes

PWG has revealed the substitutions for The Briscoes on Sunday’s Delivering the Goods event.

Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs will sub for Mark Briscoe and Jay Briscoe in their scheduled match against Aussie Open. PWG made the announcement on Sunday.

The Briscoes announced on Saturday that they would be unable to make their bookings this weekend due to a family medical emergency, as Mark’s wife was rushed to the hospital while suffering from complications related to her pregnancy.

Nelson and Isaacs regularly team as the West Coast Wrecking Crew, and are also part of “Filthy” Tom Lawlor’s Team Filthy stable on NJPW Strong.

Delivering the Goods takes place Sunday night at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles.

Here is the revised lineup:

  • PWG World Championship: Bandido (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
  • Biff Busick vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey
  • Blake Christian vs. Black Taurus
  • The Briscoe Brothers vs. Aussie Open
  • Kevin Blackwood vs. Jonathan Gresham
  • Konosuke Takeshita vs. Aramis
  • Jack Cartwheel vs. Shane Haste

The Briscoes off GCW, PWG weekend shows due to family medical emergency

The Briscoes have pulled off Saturday’s GCW In Too Deep and Sunday’s PWG Delivering The Goods due to a family medical emergency.

Jay Briscoe tweeted the news Saturday afternoon, revealing that Mark’s pregnant wife was rushed to the hospital earlier in the day. He said doctors are trying to prevent a premature birth, but that both the wife and the unborn child are stable.

One of the world’s top tag teams, the Briscoes were set to face GCW Tag Team Champions BUSSY (Allie Katch & Effy) and the Second Gear Crew (Mance Warner & Matthew Justice) in a three-way tonight before flying cross-country to challenge Aussie Open Sunday for PWG in a highly-anticipated matchup tomorrow.

The two made their TV return to Impact Wrestling this past Thursday, defeating Heath and Rhino to earn a shot at Tag Team Champions Violent by Design at next Saturday’s Under Siege. As of now, it’s too early to know if that match will need to be rescheduled.

Impact notes: Briscoes set to return, new Rebellion match, next week’s lineup

Even though Thursday’s episode of Impact Wrestling was a highlight show of matches from last Friday’s Multiverse of Matches, there were still three news items announced that will impact the weeks ahead.

The Briscoes set to return

Coming off their loss to the Good Brothers at the Multiverse show, it was learned that Impact was expected to bring the Briscoes back for future shows.

That indeed will happen as Jay and Mark Briscoe will be part of their Sunday, April 24th TV tapings in Poughkeepsie, New York — one day after the Rebellion pay-per-view.

White vs. Maclin vs. Sabin added to Rebellion

A new match was added to the aforementioned Saturday, April 23rd PPV in Jay White vs. Steve Maclin vs. Chris Sabin.

White and Sabin have been feuding the past few weeks as part of a pair of Bullet Club vs. Motor City Machine Guns matches in addition to a singles bout that Sabin won last Friday. Maclin attacked Sabin after the match, but White then gave him a low blow to send him running.

Next Thursday’s lineup

Impact will return to its normal structure next Thursday with the following:

  • ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham vs. Rocky Romero
  • Deonna Purrazzo’s Champ Champ challenge where she will defend either the ROH Women’s or AAA Reina de Reinas title
  • PCO vs. JONAH II
  • Steve Maclin vs. Alex Shelley

The Briscoes, Taya Valkyrie expected to return to Impact Wrestling

The Briscoes’ match at Friday’s Impact Multiverse of Matches isn’t expected to be their last in the promotion and the same goes for Taya Valkyrie.

PWInsider has reported that Impact Wrestling would like to bring Jay & Mark Briscoe and Valkyrie and have them as regulars if possible.

The Briscoes took a loss to The Good Brothers in the main event of Friday’s show and did a post-match promo saying they weren’t happy with the loss and would be back.

It was their second match of the night (and fourth of the weekend) as they also took part in the Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor pay-per-view, losing the Tag Team titles to FTR in one of the matches of the weekend. The Briscoes were then laid out by the Young Bucks after the match, leading to questions about what their status with ROH will be in the future.

This was their first match back since the NWA/TNA weekly pay-per-view days when they took on Quiet Storm and Chris Divine in November 2002.

The Briscoes have also been regulars in GCW and the NWA as of late, winning last month’s Crockett Cup tournament.

Valkyrie came out at Friday’s Multiverse show and challenged Ring of Honor Women’s Champion and AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Deonna Purrazzo to a match at this month’s Impact Rebellion pay-per-view. She is a former AAA titleholder and returned to the promotion recently.

AEW’s FTR win ROH World Tag Team titles at Supercard of Honor

FTR are the new ROH World Tag Team Champions.

In what became a bloody, brutal match, FTR defeated The Briscoes to win their first ROH World Tag Team Championship. The finish came when the Briscoes went for the Doomsday Device, but Dax Harwood fought out of it and dumped Jay Briscoe to the floor, allowing FTR to hit the Big Rig on Mark for the win.

After the match, the two teams shook hands and FTR left the ring, allowing The Briscoes to get an ovation from the audience. However, The Young Bucks suddenly showed up and attacked The Briscoes from behind. FTR came back and made the save and challenged The Bucks to a match right there and now. Matt Jackson agreed to the match, but said it would be this Wednesday.

The Bucks and FTR have been feuding on AEW television as of late. On this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, Harwood had issued the challenge to The Bucks, saying that he and Cash Wheeler wanted to prove who was the best tag team. The two have met before, with The Young Bucks defeating FTR at AEW’s Full Gear event back in 2020.

The Briscoes win GCW Tag Team titles at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6

Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe are GCW Tag Team Champions for a second time.

The Briscoes won a three-way to claim the GCW Tag titles in the opening match of Joey Janela’s Spring Break 6 Part 1 on Thursday night in Dallas to kick off their second reign with the belts.

After The Briscoes hit a Doomsday Device on Mance Warner, Jay pinned Warner to win the titles in a triple threat match featuring Second Gear Crew (Warner & MAtthew Justice) and the makeshift team of Nick Gage and Slade.

Gage and Matt Tremont had held the GCW Tag titles entering the match, but Tremont was a late scratch from the card. Slade entered after the match had already begun and declared himself as Gage’s partner after throwing Gage his trademark pizza cutter.

The Briscoes first won the GCW Tag titles at War Ready in October 2021, then dropped the belts to Gage and Tremont at The Wrld on GCW pay-per-view in January.

The Briscoes win NWA Crockett Cup tournament

The Briscoes are the winners of the 2022 NWA Crockett Cup tournament.

Jay and Mark Briscoe defeated The Commonwealth Connection (Doug Williams and Harry Smith) to win the tournament. The finish of the match had Smith dumped out of the ring, with Jay hitting the Jay Driller and Mark scoring the pinfall after the froggy bow. The two teams shook hands after the match.

The Commonwealth Connection had defeated NWA World Tag Team Champions La Rebelion (Bestia 666 and Mecha Wolf) to advance to the finals, while The Briscoes defeated The Cardonas (Mike Knox and VSK).

The Crockett Cup tournament began in 1986 with The Road Warriors winning the inaugural tournament. The Super Powers (Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes) won in 1987, and the team of Sting & Lex Luger won in 1988. It wasn’t until 2019 that Billy Corgan’s NWA resurrected the tournament, with Villain Enterprises (Brody King and PCO) winning the tournament in 2019. A tournament was scheduled for 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

NWA Crockett Cup semifinals set

Four teams have advanced to the semifinals of this year’s Crockett Cup.

The semifinals for tomorrow will have The Cardonas (MSK and Mike Knox) taking on The Briscoes, while La Rebellion (Mecha Wolf and Bestia 666) will face The Commonwealth Connection (Doug Williams and Harry Smith).

La Rebellion advanced after defeating The Tate Twins and PJ Hawx. Hawx competed by himself in the second round match when his father, Luke, suffered a concussion in the first round. The Briscoes defeated The NOW (Hale Collins and Vik Dalishus) and The Dirty Sexy Boys (Dirty Dango and JTG). The Cardonas defeated Mims & The Pope and The Fixers (Jay Bradley and Wrecking Ball Legursky), while The Commonwealth Connection defeated The Ill Begotten (Rush Freeman and Alex Taylor) and Gold Rushhh (Jordan Clearwater and Marshe Rockett).

Here is the full card for tomorrow’s NWA Crockett Cup card:

  • Matt Cardona vs. Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight title
  • Semifinals and finals of this year’s Crockett Cup tournament
  • Austin Aries vs. Homicide vs. Darius Lockheart vs. Colby Corino for the NWA Junior Heavyweight title
  • Kamille vs. Kylie Rae vs. Chelsea Green for the NWA World Women’s title
  • Tyrus vs. Rodney Mack for the NWA World Television title
  • Anthony Mayweather vs. Jax Dane for the NWA National Championship
  • The Hex (Allysin Kay and Marti Belle) vs. Pretty Empowered (Ella Eny and Kenzie Page) for the NWA World Women’s Tag Team titles

The Briscoes vs. FTR tag title match official for ROH Supercard of Honor

A date has finally been set for The Briscoes vs. FTR.

Tony Khan confirmed today that The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) will defend their ROH Tag Team titles against FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) at Supercard of Honor on Friday, April 1. The show, which is the first ROH event since Khan bought the promotion, is being held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas.

This will be the first time The Briscoes and FTR have ever faced each other.

The two teams have been going back and forth on social media for months. At ROH’s Final Battle pay-per-view last December, a brawl broke out when FTR confronted The Briscoes.

The Briscoes won the ROH Tag Team titles from Matt Taven & Mike Bennett at Final Battle. It’s The Briscoes’ 12th reign as ROH Tag Team Champions.

ROH wrote that Supercard of Honor will be available on HonorClub, Fite TV, and all major PPV providers. The updated card for the event is listed below:

  • Winner-take-all match to determine undisputed ROH World Champion: Jonathan Gresham vs. Bandido
  • ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defend against FTR
  • Swerve The Realest (Shane Strickland) vs. Alex Zayne

Jay Briscoe apologizes again for homophobic tweets in 2013

This post was updated at 3:30 PM Eastern.

Jay Briscoe again apologized for past homophobic tweets that has reportedly prevented he and brother, Mark, from being hired in either WWE and AEW.

Fightful first had the transcription of the interview from the Battlegrounds podcast, but the episode was temporarily taken down and returned on Thursday afternoon.

Fightful reported last week that a “person of influence” within WarnerMedia didn’t want the reigning Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions signed to AEW because of Jay’s 2013 tweets.

When asked about the report, Jay didn’t specifically address whether AEW had shown interest but did again apologize for his actions in 2013, saying that he thought he “was taking a stand for the Lord back in the day.”

“I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago — the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious shit I have ever done. I don’t want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can’t care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can,” he said.

“I said some dumb shit a long time ago, I apologized for it and I’ll apologize for it again. It was stupid. I feel like now there are people who look at us like, ‘We can’t cheer for them because they hate a certain group of people.’ We don’t hate nobody. We love everybody. We’re just some country boys.” he continued.

Mark then said the comments were from immaturity and that they were counterproductive to what God wants which is to be a human being and relate to others with love.

Jay then said “we’re not like that” when it comes to fans labeling them a certain way.

The two have remained busy since ROH closed operations at the end of December, working for GCW, House of Glory, Warrior Wrestling and other indies, Now that AEW head Tony Khan purchased ROH, the two await their fate in whatever Khan has planned for his new asset.
