WWE NXT live results: Vengeance Day fallout, Bayley appears

Bayley is headed to NXT for tonight’s Vengeance Day fallout edition of the show.

Bayley will make a special guest appearance on NXT as she hosts a “Ding Dong, Hello!” segment with Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne. Dolin and Jayne came up short when they challenged Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s Championship in a triple threat match at Vengeance Day this past Saturday.

Bron Breakker is still the NXT Champion after retaining his title against Grayson Waller in a steel cage match at Vengeance Day. After disrupting Shawn Michaels’ post-Vengeance Day press conference, Waller is currently “suspended” for one week.

Carmelo Hayes, who stared down Breakker at the end of Vengeance Day, looks to be the next challenger for Breakker’s title. Hayes defeated Apollo Crews on Saturday, winning two straight times in a best-of-three falls match.

Gallus and Fallon Henley & Kiana James are NXT’s new tag team champions coming out of Vengeance Day, while Wes Lee retained the North American title against Dijak after Dijak was distracted by Tony D’Angelo.

Lyra Valkyria vs. Valentina Feroz and Zoey Stark vs. Sol Ruca have been made official for tonight.

Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

As the show begins, Bayley is seen entering the Performance Center.

Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams enter the soundstage, and they are headed to the ring for a promo. Williams starts the in-ring promo by hyping up Carmelo Hayes. Hayes then speaks, and brags about beating Apollo Crews in a match at Vengeance Day.

Hayes says he has run through almost everyone, but there is one for him left to face. Before Hayes can say who that is, he is interrupted by JD McDonagh. He says its sounds like Hayes is about to challenge for the NXT title. McDonagh mocks Hayes as McDonagh makes his way onto the ring apron.

McDonagh admits that Hayes may be the coolest in NXT, but McDonagh claims that “in the ring where it matters, you’re not fit to hold my jockstrap, pal.” McDonagh also said that Hayes is not ready to be champion, nor is Hayes ready to be the face of NXT.

Hayes bickers with McDonagh, and McDonagh threatens Hayes. That leads to Hayes suggesting they have a match tonight, and McDonagh gets in Hayes’ face to accept the challenge. The match is made official for tonight.

The new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, Kaina James and Fallon Henley, are walking together backstage. Henley calls out James for cheating to win the titles, and James tries to get Henley to relax about that. Henley vows they will give the former champions a rematch.

Henley again brings up the mystery caller that James was overheard talking to, and Henley says she is going to tell Brooks Jensen about it. Henley storms in a dark room looking to spill the beans. She flips on the lights. Surprise! It’s a party for Henley. The room is filled with party goers there to congratulate Henley and James on winning the tag titles.

Grayson Waller is shown crashing Shawn Michaels’ post-show media call on Saturday after Vengeance Day. Waller is ranting at Michaels when Matt Bloom comes in and pushes Waller out of the room.

Zoey Stark defeated Sol Ruca

Stark pinned Ruca to win the match. Ruca was able to save face by giving Stark a stunner while counteracting a post-match attack.

Just before the finish, Ruca springboards into a Superfly splash, but Stark gets her knees up to block it. Stark then smashes Ruca into the turnbuckles, and Ruca delivers her modified GTS finisher. Stark then covers Ruca for a three count.

Stark jumps Ruca after the bout for a post-match attack. Ruca counters Stark to leave her laying with a stunner. Starks wins the match, but Ruca is the last standing between them.

The party celebrating the new women’s tag champs is still going, and Pretty Deadly is there looking disheveled after losing at Vengeance Day. They claim to have not slept since their loss on Saturday. Andre Chase and Chase U enter the scene, and Chase is pissed off. An apparently drunk Chase is so angry he challenges Pretty Deadly to a tag match tonight.

Dabba-Kato defeated Dante Chen

Dabba-Kato pinned Chen in a short, glorified squash match. Aside from a brief surge by Chen, this was all Dabba-Kato. Chen begins a rally, and Chen knocks Kato down to his knees. Dabba-Kato soon chops down Chen, and Kato lifts Chen into a sit-out tree slam. A three count follows.

As he is leaving the ring, Dabba-Kato is asked why he attacked Apollo Crews at Vengeance Day. Dabba-Kato says Crews knows what he did after he “dropped his ass.”

McKenzie Mitchell is interviewing NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez when they are interrupted by Katana Chance and Kayden Carter. The forner tag team champions are salty over being cheated out of the tag titles. Carter and Chance heel on Perez, and they say Perez has no friends here. Perez is going to make a phone call to prove to them she has friends. This sets up a tag match for next week, and Perez’s friend in question is later revealed to be Meiko Satomura.

Isla Dawn (with Alba Fyre) defeated Tatum Paxley

Dawn pinned Paxley after a modified slop drop. This match was set up with a skit where Dawn accuses Paxley of being the unknown assailant that attacked Nikkita Lyons.

Dawn and Fyre circle a prone Paxley after the match, but Ivy Nile runs down to make a save. Dawn and Fyre scamper and flee. That seems to set up an upcoming tag match.

A mystery person arrives to the building in a Mercedes-Benz. Only the person’s dress shoes and black slacks are visible as the mysterious figure exits the vehicle.

Carmelo Hayes (with Trick Williams) defeated JD McDonagh

Hayes pinned McDonagh after the surprise return of Ilja Dragunov. The match itself was pretty good, but the psychology was odd considering neither are a protagonist. Both have been portrayed as heels. Nevertheless, McDonagh was the aggressor for much of the match, and he took most of the offense.

McDonagh works over Hayes, which builds to a comeback by Hayes. McDonagh is working over Hayes as the match goes through a split-screen commercial, and McDonagh dashes a few hope spots. Running Spanish Fly leads to a near fall for McDonagh. They would go on to trade near falls.

Hayes springboards off the middle rope to deliver a guillotine legdrop, but McDonagh kicks out at two. McDonagh kicks out again seconds later after taking a suplex into a stunner. McDonagh also gets a rope break when Hayes applies a crossface. Sit-out powerbomb by McDonagh for yet another near fall. Hayes pops up for a codebreaker, and McDonagh kicks out again.

Just before the finish, McDonagh knocks down Hayes with a headbutt. Suddenly, theme music blares as Ilja Dragunov runs down to take out Trick Williams with a leg lariat. McDonagh is distracted, which allows Hayes to cradle McDonagh for a three count.

Dragunov gets into the ring after the match, and he teases attacking Hayes. Dragunov instead attacks McDonagh, who in storyline put Dragunov out of action with an injury. Dragunov is out for revenge, and McDonaghs powders. Dragunov then chases McDonagh into the crowd.

Tiffany Stratton and Thea Hail argue in a backstage skit. Hail is then kidnapped by Ava Raine when Raine sneaks in to snatch Hail in a chokehold. Raine drags Hail away.

Lyra Valkyria defeated Valentina Feroz (with Wendy Choo)

Valkyria pinned Feroz to win the match. Elektra Lopez comes down to ringside looking to help Feroz. Lopez gives Feroz brass knux. That backfires on Feroz, and Valkyria lands an enzuigiri before Feroz can even use the knux. Valkyria follows with a roundhouse spin kick, and she covers Feroz for a pinfall.

A personality profile features NXT North American Champion Wes Lee from Saturday as he prepared to defend his title at Vengeance Day. The video package also features Lee’s wife. This is great stuff. Following the video diary is an interview with Lee. He is interrupted by Tony D’Angelo and Stacks. Lee dares D’Angelo or Stacks to answer Lee’s open challenge for a title match next Tuesday on NXT.

Kofi Kingston is recognized in a video package celebrating Black History Month.

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo (with Tony D’Angelo) defeated Odyssey Jones

Stacks wins via pinfall in what could be considered an upset. Stacks is clearly getting a push as in his new role as an “underboss” within D’Angelo’s mafia family.

Jones manhandles Stacks at certain points, as the size difference is evident. Nonetheless, Stacks is able to cut off Jones. Jones makes a comeback, but Stacks cuts him off again with a DDT out of nowhere. Stacks follows with a wind-up punch and a knee drop. Stacks then scores a three count.

Jinder Mahal is with Indus Sher (Veer and Sanga) for a pre-taped promo. There two phase takeover of NXT is underway. Phase one is complete, and phase two is all three winning gold.

Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) defeated Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson)

Prince pinned Chase to win the match. Thea Hail runs down during the match, and she is distraught over her kidnapping earlier in the show.

Usually dressed to impress, Pretty Deadly are still looking as disheveled as they did earlier in the show. They regain some confidence during the match, and their attitudes perk up. They rally as the match goes through a split-screen commercial break.

Hot tag to Chase, and he cleans house on Pretty Deadly. Chase is a house of fire, but he is soon cut off and double teamed by Wilson and Prince. Hudson jumps back into the action to help save Chase. Hudson clotheslines Wilson out of the ring, leaving Chase alone in the ring with Prince for a Garvin Stomp.

Chase is running wild when a distraught Thea Hail runs down to ringside. She screams and yells, as Hudson tries to confront a fraught and distressed Hail. Meanwhile, Pretty Deadly make a bling tag. They execute Spilt Milk on Chase, and Prince covers Chase for a three count.

Hank Walker is backstage talking with his mentor, Drew Gulak. In walks Charlie Dempsey. There is some arguing and insults, which looks to set up a match with Walker against Dempsey.

Advertised for next Tuesday on NXT:

  • NXT Champion Bron Breakker returns
  • Open challenge for Wes Lee’s NXT North American Championship
  • NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez teams with Meiko Satomura against Kayden Carter and Katana Chase
  • Tyler Bate vs. Grayson Waller

Bayley hosts “Ding Dong, Hello!” with guests Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne

Bayley is back in NXT for a talking segment. She introduces the duo of Toxic Attraction. Dolan and Jayne enter together, but they tease dissension as they sit down for an interview by Bayley.

Bayley basically cuts to the chase and asks what happened between the two on Saturday. Jayne snarkily asks Dolan what happens, and Dolan turns the question around on her. You tell me. No, you tell me.

Jayne accuses Dolan of costing her the NXT Women’s Championship. Dolan responds by pointing out that Jayne dropped the fall, thus Dolan insists that Jayne cost Dolan the title. Jayne tells Dolan she wasn’t being a team player. They continue to bicker amongst themselves, and next come the personal insults.

Jayne says that Dolan’s gear on Saturday made her look like “a hobo who banged a Chucky doll.” Dolan again chided Jayne for dropping the fall on Saturday. Jayne was looking up at the lights. Dolan called it the “Jacy Jayne position.”

Bayley chimes in to try talking sense into Toxic Attraction. Before they split up and break up as a team, Bayley asks if they thought about what they would do as individuals. Dolan hadn’t thought about it she says, but Dolan said the sky is the limit for herself. Jayne says she is going straight to the top. Bayley seems skeptical.

Bayley reminds them it is easier to get to the top with a “ride or die” friend by their side. Dolan and Jayne then make up, and they vow to have one more run. They are like sisters to each other. Dolan and Jayne ponder making another run at the NXT women’s tag titles, but then they begin pondering challenging Damage CTRL (Io Sky & Dakota Kai) for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Damage CTRL is of course aligned with Bayley.

Bayley tries to change the subject by focusing on the here and now. Bayley gets Toxic Attraction to hug it out, and they seemingly are united again. Then comes a Shawn and Marty moment. Just like in the Barber Shop, Jayne lifts up Dolan’s hand like they are a team again, … just before a superkick of doom. Jayne turns on Dolan, and Jayne superkicks her.

Jayne smashes Dolan into the door that is part of the set. Jayne then boots Dolan in the face, and Dolan curls up in tears. Jayne stands over a fallen Dolan as the show goes off air.

Show Recap —

Edge and Beth Phoenix kicked off Raw. A video package aired recapping their issues with Judgment Day going back to October. Edge was happy to be back and added, “I am the king of comebacks at this point — it’s getting silly.”

Edge admitted that Judgment Day was his fault but his idea worked. Everyone in Judgment Day was in a better place today than they were a year ago. Finn Bálor was on a new level, Damian Priest was a workhorse, Rhea Ripley (who got some cheers) outlasted everyone to win the Royal Rumble, “and Dom’s there, too.”

Edge felt helpless when Ripley held that chair to Beth Phoenix in October. He never felt helpless so he gave Judgment Day a golf clap for that. Edge said he would stop at nothing to get his pound of flesh. Phoenix wanted to cut to the chase so she called out Judgment Day.

Bálor, Priest and Dominik Mysterio entered. Bálor told Edge it might be time to say, “I quit” for good. The crowd loudly booed Dom who bragged about serving hard time and he made a remark about Rey not making it to the Rumble.

Priest acknowledged that Edge and Phoenix kept coming back no matter what they did to them. Priest threatened them with worse before saying he would beat Angelo Dawkins and become US Champion at Elimination Chamber. (Priest flubbed his line and almost said Money in the Bank.)

Edge thought it was ironic that Priest didn’t want to be by his side but he followed Bálor around like a labradoodle. Edge threatened to drop them faster than Dom dropped his pants in prison. Edge couldn’t wait to see Rey come back and kick Dom’s teeth down his throat.

(Edge also made a reference to the band Jamiroquai and their song “Virtual Insanity” which came out in 1996, roughly two years before Edge even debuted on WWF television.)

Phoenix said she came here for Ripley but Dom said Ripley was off doing promotional work for WrestleMania. Phoenix thought that was convenient considering she speared Ripley into oblivion last week.

Since Ripley wasn’t there, Phoenix challenged them to a tag match at Elimination Chamber: herself and Edge against Ripley and Bálor. Bálor was amused by the challenge and accepted.

Judgment Day went to attack but Angelo Dawkins ran out to even the odds and Edge speared Bálor. Dom tried backing away unharmed but Montez Ford snuck up behind him and chucked him in the ring where Phoenix gave him a Glam Slam.

********

During a break, Adam Pearce tossed everyone from ringside for the upcoming match.

Elimination Chamber qualifier: Damian Priest defeated Angelo Dawkins (12:00)

After a break, Dawkins ran into a superkick and Priest followed with a flatliner for two. Dawkins countered a chokeslam into a Silencer for two followed by a senton bomb (perhaps the first he’s done on TV) for a nearfall. Priest followed with a spinning kick and South of Heaven chokeslam for the pinfall win. Priest qualifies for the Chamber.

********

Austin Theory arrived at the building earlier today in a black Lamborghini convertible.

Corey Graves congratulated Bad Bunny on winning a Grammy.

Adam Pearce officially welcomed Maxxine Dupri and Maximum Male Models to Raw with new contracts.

They left after Chelsea Green arrived to complain about getting Belgian chocolate last week instead of Swiss chocolate and also about not being in the Chamber. She wanted a match tonight or else maybe she would call Pearce’s manager and that would be bad news for him. She said, “K, thanks, bye,” and left.

There was a video recap of the Sami Zayn/Roman Reigns angle and a plug for The Usos’ title defence on Friday against Braun Strowman and Ricochet.

********

Dexter Lumis (w/Johnny Gargano) defeated Baron Corbin (w/JBL) (3:10)

Corbin attacked Lumis before the match — during picture-in-picture as they showed a reply — and we were in a long chin lock less than a minute into the match.

Lumis fought out of a second rest hold and hit his finisher for the relatively easy win.

(They seemed to tease that maybe JBL wasn’t happy with Corbin after losing again.)

********

Byron Saxton interviewed Becky Lynch. She ran down her history with Bayley, which started right here in Orlando, and warned her not to talk about her family. Lynch said Bayley could bring her friends but it wouldn’t matter. Lynch had one hand to play that she hasn’t played yet and maybe tonight would be the night.

[SECOND HOUR]

Brock Lesnar/Bobby Lashley segment

Brock Lesnar entered to a big reaction. Lesnar appreciated it.

Lesnar asked if the crowd enjoyed the Rumble. They cheered but he thought it sucked — at least for him it did. Lesnar got eliminated quickly and worse, it was by “Bobby who.” Lesnar took time off last week but during that time, all he could think about was Bobby Lashley. He would go fishing or sit down to eat a steak but all he could think about was Bobby Lashley.

He would get into bed with his wife — and about 4 or 5 hours later, all he could think about was Bobby Lashley. (That was a funny line.)

Lesnar had an idea. Inside his $5 denim jacket was a multi-million dollar contract. He pulled out a contract proposing a match between the two men at the Chamber. Lesnar called out Lashley and he entered.

Lashley recalled pinning Lesnar in their first match together. Lesnar won their second match but Lashley left him unconscious. Their next meeting was in the Rumble and Lashley threw him out with no problem.

Lesnar handed him the contract but Lashley said things would be done on his terms. Lashley said he would have his agent, manager and lawyer look it over before he took it under consideration. Lashley asked Lesnar if he was surprised that “Bobby who” had one up on him.

Lashley put his finger in Lesnar’s face so Lesnar gave him an F5.

The crowd loudly chanted “one more time.” It’s possible Lesnar wanted to ignore it but it was too loud so he, in fact, gave Lashley another F5. The crowd cheered and Lesnar tipped his cap.

********

Gargano and Lumis approached Candice LeRae as she psyched herself up for tonight’s match. Lumis presented her with a drawing of LeRae and Gargano with their dogs. LeRae was pleased until she noticed a strange woman drawn to the side and she asked who it was. They realized it was Nikki Cross who was stalking them in the background at that very moment. Cross cackled and scampered off. Gargano and LeRae were perplexed as Lumis just stood there silently.

********

Elimination Chamber fatal four-way qualifying match: Carmella defeated Candice LeRae, Michin Mia Yim and Piper Niven (9:52)

Niven pancaked her three opponents at once with a crossbody. After a break, Yim gave Carmella an Eat Defeat but Niven broke up the cover. LeRae gave Niven a lionsault but Yim broke up the cover. Niven gave Yim a spinning side slam but LeRae broke up that cover. LeRae avoided a Niven senton and hit one of her own. Carmella tried a surprise schoolboy on LeRae but she kicked out.

Carmella gave LeRae a bronco buster and Niven gave LeRae a cannonball. Carmella superkicked Niven out of the ring and stacked up LeRae for the pinfall win. Carmella qualifies. Graves was happy.

********

Corbin asked JBL if he wanted to go out for drinks. JBL basically told Corbin that he had channel-changing heat and he was ruining his Hall of Fame reputation. JBL called Corbin a clown who didn’t belong with him. Corbin said he could do better but JBL told him you can’t polish a turd. JBL left.

(MVP could be seen speaking to Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander in the background.)

********

Niven shoved LeRae into a wall backstage and was pissed that LeRae cost her a chance at the title. Yim separated them and told Niven to back off. Niven warned them to never get in her way again.

Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander (w/MVP) defeated Alpha Academy (4:56)

There was an impressive spot early where Alexander went for a Neuralyzer but Chad Gable caught him and in one motion hit a German suplex. Otis tagged in and gave Benjamin the world’s strongest slam. Otis worked over Benjamin for a bit before Alexander tagged in and ran wild on Gable but when he went for a dive, Gable caught him and suplexed him on the outside.

Gable followed with a diving headbutt but Benjamin broke up the cover. Benjamin hit Otis with knee strikes before hitting an impressive Samoan drop. Alexander dodged Gable’s moonsault attempt and hit a Lumbar Check for the pinfall win.

This was fun for the time they got. (The announcers put over the reunion of MVP with Benjamin and Alexander.)

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed The Miz, who acted like he was not impressed by Rick Boogs. Boogs showed up and said he was just happy to be back with the Boogs Crew. Miz thought that was dumb and told Boogs he would have won last week if he didn’t have to wrestle in a suit. Miz called Pearce an incompetent official for making the match. Pearce happened to be behind Miz so he made a rematch for next week. Boogs was pumped.

Green showed up in her gear and told Pearce that she was headed to the ring, so he better have an opponent ready for her or else she’d call his manager. She said “K, thanks, bye,” again.

********

Asuka defeated Chelsea Green (2:29)

Asuka has a new remixed theme.

Right as the match started, Asuka had her back turned to Green as she removed her jacket and was maybe distracted by Raquel Rodriguez who stood ringside so Green decked her. Liv Morgan and Natalya were at ringside as well and were soon joined by Cross (who crawled out from under the ring) and Carmella. (Green warned Cross that she would give her crazy if she wanted crazy.)

Green was too distracted by everyone at ringside so Asuka killed her with rapid strikes, a German suplex, a kick to the head, and a submission (that wound up looking like a Rings of Saturn) for the submission win.

— After the match, Bianca Belair reminded them all why she was champion and wished them luck at Elimination Chamber.

[THIRD HOUR]

Cody Rhodes segment

This was outstanding.

Rhodes entered to a big reaction. Rhodes mentioned Roman Reigns which led to chants of “Sami.” Rhodes said the crowd read his mind because while his path to WrestleMania was a straight line, Reigns was defending his title against a guy who has kicked up dirt and fought his way to a championship match in his hometown: Sami Zayn.

Rhodes respected anyone who fought against an injustice put upon them and he considered Zayn a friend. Rhodes wished Zayn well and said, “let the best man win.”

Paul Heyman interrupted and the crowd loudly sang along with his spiel. Heyman informed Rhodes that the only week as busy as the week leading up to a big event like the Rumble or WrestleMania was the week following. So, a week after he did it, Heyman congratulated Rhodes on his Rumble win. They shook hands.

Cody said his father and his brother had a nickname for Heyman but all Cody wanted to call him was “Mr. Heyman.” Rhodes respected Heyman and Heyman knew why. Rhodes decided to pull the curtain back for everyone.

In 2000, the Rhodes family came across hard times. They went broke. Dusty did local car commercials — not for the money but just so he could keep the car. The crowd chanted for Dusty.

Dusty got a call from Heyman. ECW was in town and Steve Corino would call him out. (Heyman was getting emotional.) Cody said Heyman offered to pay Dusty and pay him well. Heyman was a man of his word.

Thanks to Heyman, Dusty got his confidence back and Cody could never thank him enough. Before Cody returned to WWE, he was somewhere else disrupting the business and Heyman helped show him the way. Cody thanked him again. The crowd chanted, “thank you, Paul.”

Heyman took a step back, chuckled, and told Cody, “you’re good.” Heyman tried finding the words as the crowd cheered. Heyman said they could pull the curtain back some more. This wasn’t about him or about Dusty. This was about Cody. This was about everything that Cody fought for — leaving through the door and walking back in.

This was about main eventing — and winning — WrestleMania. Winning at WrestleMania would be the storybook ending but it was up to Cody to make sure he didn’t come up short because Cody was going against the biggest box office draw at WrestleMania in Roman Reigns. Nobody else knew what it was like being under that spotlight and nobody prepped Cody for it.

Down the road at the Performance Center, Dusty Rhodes trained and prepped the biggest stars of this generation — Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Kevin Owens, and the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns. The person Dusty didn’t train or prep was Cody. Heyman said maybe Dusty simply wanted Cody to do it on his own.

Heyman couldn’t stress how much he loved Dusty or how much Dusty loved Cody. In their last conversation together, Dusty told Heyman that Cody was his favourite son — but Roman Reigns was the son he always wanted. Heyman dropped the mic as the crowd booed.

Cody got in Heyman’s face and Heyman stepped back. Cody forced a handshake to keep Heyman close. Cody got real serious and said he was just trying to win a wrestling championship but everyone was trying to make it personal. Cody said Heyman wouldn’t be the one to pay for it. Reigns would pay for it when Cody took the titles — personally.

********

There was a Kofi Kingston video package to celebrate Black History Month.

Elimination Chamber qualifier: Montez Ford defeated Elias (10:26)

The highlight of this match by far was Ford doing his wild flip dive over the ring post to the outside. He followed with a frog splash for the pinfall win.

— Austin Theory was on commentary for the match and posed with his belt on top of the table after the match. Seth Rollins ran in, tripped Theory and curb-stomped him. Rollins pranced around as Ford watched.

(If the Rhodes/Heyman segment was the most interesting promo on Raw in ages, then Theory on commentary was the opposite of that.)

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Brock Lesnar/Bobby Lashley contract signing (if Lashley agrees to the match)
  • Raw vs. Smackdown six-woman tag match: Asuka, Nikki Cross & Carmella vs. Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan & Natalya
  • Miz TV with Seth Rollins

********

Steel Cage Match: Becky Lynch defeated Bayley (w/Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) (15:09)

Lynch was aggressive and in control for the first portion of the match until Bayley bonked her off the side of the cage. Bayley followed with a flying elbow drop for two. Bayley hit a sunset flip powerbomb into the bottom turnbuckle during a break but Lynch fought back following the break.

With Bayley draped over the top rope, Lynch hit a diving leg drop for two. Bayley countered a Man-handle slam into a back suplex for two. Bayley tried to escape so Lynch drove her into the side of the cage. Lynch tried a leg drop but Bayley caught her and applied a leg lock (Graves had to point out that Bayley didn’t have the ankle grasped properly).

Lynch crawled toward the open door and flung Bayley around into the turnbuckle. Bayley tried the leg lock again so Lynch drove her into the cage. They battled for position on the top rope until Bayley brought down Lynch with a Bayley-to-belly. This only got a two count so Bayley climbed to the top of the cage.

Lynch went after her and applied a Disarmer on top of the cage until Bayley fell back into the ring. Lynch seemed to have it won but SKY climbed up and knocked her back into the ring. Kai slipped a crutch into the ring when Lita’s music it. (She got a good reaction.)

Lita yanked SKY down from the side of the cage and took Kai’s other crutch. She attacked SKY with it and gave her a Twist of Fate.

Lita slammed the door on Bayley and Lynch followed with a Man-handle Slam for the pinfall win. Lita celebrated with Lynch. (The match itself was pretty good.)

‘Ding Dong Hello’ segment with Bayley and Toxic Attraction set for WWE NXT

Bayley will return to WWE NXT on Tuesday to host her “Ding Dong Hello” talk show.

WWE announced on social media on Sunday that Bayley will host Ding Dong Hello on Tuesday’s show, with her guests being Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne.

Dolin and Jayne challenged Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s Championship at Saturday’s Vengeance Day event in a triple threat match, where Perez pinned Jayne to retain the title.

Prior to appearing on NXT on Tuesday in Orlando, Bayley will face Becky Lynch in a steel cage match on Monday’s Raw show, also set for Orlando.

Bayley and Lynch had been scheduled to face off in a cage match on Raw’s 30th anniversary episode in Philadelphia on January 23, but the match was switched to an angle, reportedly due to time constraints on the show.

Lynch re-issued a challenge to Bayley for the cage match in a promo segment on last week’s Raw.

Becky Lynch vs. Bayley, Carmella return set for next week’s WWE Raw

Becky Lynch vs. Bayley in a steel cage match, Carmella’s in-ring return, and multiple Elimination Chamber qualifying matches are set for next week’s WWE Raw.

Becky Lynch and Bayley will finally have their steel cage match on next week’s Raw in Orlando, Florida. Lynch issued the challenge to Bayley on this week’s episode after threatening to attack Dakota Kai, and Bayley accepted. The match was originally set for last week’s Raw 30th anniversary show, but was scrapped in favor of an angle with Lynch and Damage CTRL due to time constraints.

Three Elimination Chamber qualifying matches have also been announced for next week’s Raw.

Carmella will make her in-ring return after a six-month absence next week in a four-way Elimination Chamber qualifying bout. She will take on Candice LeRae, “Michin” Mia Yim, and Piper Niven.

Carmella has been out of action since last August. She suffered a head injury at a house show that initially put her out of action, then shared that she had also suffered a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy.

After Rhea Ripley declared her intention to face Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s title at WrestleMania, Adam Pearce announced on Raw that there would be an Elimination Chamber match at the PPV of the same name on Saturday, February 18 to decide who will challenge Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s title at WrestleMania. The final four eliminations from Saturday’s Royal Rumble were automatically entered into the Chamber match, with next week’s qualifying match deciding a fifth participant and one participant still to be determined.

A pair of qualifying matches for the United States title Chamber match on February 18 are also set for next week’s Raw.

Montez Ford will face Elias in one qualifier, while Angelo Dawkins will take on Damian Priest in the other. Bronson Reed, Seth Rollins, and Johnny Gargano won qualifying matches on this week’s show to earn their spots in the Chamber match, where Austin Theory will defend the US title.

Next week’s Raw lineup:

WWE Raw, Monday, February 6 —

  • Steel cage match: Becky Lynch vs. Bayley
  • Elimination Chamber qualifying match: Carmella vs. Candice LeRae vs. Piper Niven vs. “Michin” Mia Yim

The announced Elimination Chamber lineup:

WWE Elimination Chamber, Saturday, February 18, 8 p.m. Eastern time on Peacock & WWE Network —

  • Elimination Chamber match, winner challenges Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39: Asuka vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Nikki Cross vs. Liv Morgan vs. Carmella/Candice LeRae/Mia Yim/Piper Niven winner vs. TBD

Report: Bayley will be in Japan to support Sasha Banks at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom

Mercedes Varnado (Sasha Banks) will have some support as she makes her NJPW debut.

PWInsider reports that WWE star Bayley will be in Tokyo on Wednesday to support Varnado, who is expected to appear at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. If Varnado does show up at Wrestle Kingdom, it will be her first pro wrestling appearance since walking out of WWE Raw this May.

Bayley traveling to Japan comes after she appeared on Raw last night. She’s currently involved in a feud with Becky Lynch.

“Obviously, Bayley is under contract to WWE and likely shouldn’t be expected to be seen on camera, but we are told she will be there,” PWInsider wrote. “In asking around, we could not confirm that WWE sent Bayley to the show, but it’s entirely possible (and probably likely) she headed to Japan herself to be there for Varnado given their long standing friendship.”

Trinity Fatu (Naomi), who walked out of WWE with Varnado last May, is also in Japan ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 17. PWInsider noted that NJPW sources intimated that Fatu was coming to Japan “on her own accord.”

Dave Meltzer reported that he hasn’t heard of anything scheduled for Fatu as far as pro wrestling is concerned: “Regarding Trinity Fatu (Naomi) being in Japan as reported by Mike Johnson, we haven’t heard of anything scheduled for her as far as pro wrestling is concerned. There has been at this point nothing talked about on the Stardom side of things.”

Wrestle Kingdom 17 is taking place at the Tokyo Dome. The pre-show will begin airing on NJPW World at 1:20 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday morning.

WWE Raw live results: Becky Lynch vs. Bayley

Date: December 19, 2022
Location: Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA

Show Recap —

The show kicked off with a shot of Paul Heyman holding the WWE Universal Championship belts. Heyman introduced himself before the camera panned out to reveal Roman Reigns was there, too. The crowd cheered.

Reigns called Raw the home of Kevin Owens who was trying to tear down his island. Not only that, but Owens went and got himself John Cena. Reigns warned that Owens would need more than that. He’d need the entire Raw locker room. Reigns was going to return the favour and show Owens what he had at his disposal, then everyone would acknowledge the Bloodline.

Elsewhere, the Usos held up a camera to show that Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa were taking out Mustafa Ali (and a couple of security guards or stagehands). They said there was more to be done and went on their way.

********

As the match below got underway, they cut to a live shot in the back of the Bloodline taking out Elias and Andre Chase (the announcers acknowledged that Chase was there to compete on Main Event).

The Street Profits (w/Akira Tozawa) defeated Finn Bálor & Damian Priest (w/Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio) (9:01)

Bálor dropkicked Montez Ford and was about to go up for his finisher but got distracted by Tozawa getting into a confrontation with Ripley and Dominik outside the ring. Tozawa tried to chuck his drink in Ripley’s face but she ducked and it hit Dom instead which delighted the crowd, of course.

Ford then rolled up Bálor for the win.

(The action in the match was pretty good but about half of it happened during a break and the first minute was a backdrop for the backstage angle.)

— After the match, Ripley marched up the ramp and smacked Tozawa who fell on his ass. She challenged him to a fight and went to the ring. Tozawa made his way to the ring as they cut to break.

The Street Profits psyched up Tozawa who seemed unsure about getting in the ring but the bell rang and the match was official.

Rhea Ripley (w/Judgment Day) defeated Akira Tozawa (w/The Street Profits) (4:56)

Tozawa countered some strikes but stopped himself short of punching Ripley. She took advantage of his hesitation and hit a running boot for two. Tozawa tried a vertical suplex but Ripley reversed into her own suplex for two. There was a rough sequence where they mistimed a bunch of counters until Tozawa finally managed to bring Ripley down with a hurricanrana.

Tozawa set up for a suicide dive but was tripped by Bálor so the Street Profits took out Bálor and Priest with stereo dives. Tozawa dodged a Ripley charge and she went shoulder-first into the ring post. Tozawa kicked Dom off the apron and went to the top but Ripley dodged his diving senton attempt and hit Riptide for the pinfall win.

********

Backstage, Adam Pearce was leaving an angry voicemail for Heyman. Cathy Kelley was there and wanted to ask about the Bloodline but first asked for an update on Bobby Lashley. Pearce wanted to keep their matter private but did say that the two men met at headquarters and he assured her that Lashley would be back soon.

MVP approached Pearce for a word. Pearce was annoyed but agreed to meet in his office. However, an official ran up to grab Pearce because there was something going on backstage. Pearce ran off with the official and Kelley followed.

After a break, Dolph Ziggler, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander were all down and being checked on by officials while Pearce was on the phone. Kelley couldn’t get a comment from Pearce so she asked Ziggler what happened. Ziggler responded, “the Bloodline happened.”

********

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows (w/AJ Styles & Mia Yim) defeated Alpha Academy (9:05)

The OC was working over Chad Gable and the crowd randomly chanted “we want Otis.” Otis tagged in and they cheered but OC cleared the ring of Otis and Gable ahead of a break.

Chad Gable worked over Anderson after the break until Gallows tagged in but Otis made a blind tag and leveled Gallows with a discus clothesline. Alpha Academy hit a double-team move on Gallows but Anderson broke up the cover.

Gable went for a moonsault but Gallows avoided it and OC gave him Magic Killer for the pinfall win.

— The Bloodline jumped in and laid out Styles, Gallows and Anderson after the match.

********

The Usos and Sami Zayn were still in the ring after the break. Pearce was at ringside with Shane Helms and a bunch of security guards. Jimmy Uso said they run this business. Zayn didn’t know what Pearce’s problem was because the fans certainly didn’t have a problem with them. The crowd cheered.

Zayn said tonight was nothing compared to do what they will do to Owens and John Cena on the December 30th episode of Smackdown. Pearce was about to send security into the ring but Jey said not to worry about it because they were done. Jey led the crowd in their catchphrase and they left the ring.

As Bloodline left, Styles decked Zayn but officials separated them.

They showed a replay of Alexa Bliss beating Bayley last week. After that, Styles was screaming at Pearce backstage. Styles wanted a match so Pearce gave it to him — against Sami Uso.

********

Bianca Belair/Alexa Bliss segment

Byron Saxton sat down backstage with Bianca Belair and Alexa Bliss for an interview. Saxton asked Bliss to comment on what happened after her match last week (when she was possessed and almost attacked Belair). Belair told Bliss that she didn’t trust her.

Bliss couldn’t explain what happened but spoke about being abducted by Bray Wyatt. Bliss was left with abandonment issues and had to go to therapy which didn’t help. She said that she could only go up from here and had her eyes set on the championship.

Belair didn’t believe that Bliss didn’t know what happened. Belair knew what Bliss and Bray were capable of. Bliss told Belair to stop making this about Bray because she should be focused on her. Bliss said she was winning titles in WWE before Belair was even there and she would do it again.

They got up to leave but when Belair turned her back, Bliss smashed her from behind with a vase. Saxton checked on Belair as Bliss left.

They announced that Belair will defend her title against Bliss on the January 2nd edition of Raw.

(They technically crossed into the second hour during that interview segment.)

[SECOND HOUR]

Ladder match: The Miz defeated Dexter Lumis (w/Johnny Gargano) (19:40)

Bronson Reed returned to help Miz win the match.

Lumis gave Miz a superplex off a ladder early in the match. Lumis dropped the ladder toward a fallen Miz and it just barely missed hitting his balls. Miz was relieved but Lumis dropkicked the ladder into his dick anyway. They battled for position on top of the ladder before it toppled over and they both crashed into the top rope.

They were back on the ladder after a break. Lumis shoved Miz off but Miz pushed the ladder over and Lumis again crashed onto the rope. Miz tried grabbing the money bags but Lumis yanked him down and put him in his sleeper hold. Miz countered and gave him a neckbreaker off the apron.

Miz placed Lumis between the ladder and started dropping chairs on top of it. The crowd chanted for tables so Miz teased getting one before putting it back. Miz instead decided to boot Gargano and hit him with the ladder. (Gargano disappeared after that.)

Lumis sat up and slammed Miz on top of a ladder (which, fortunately for Miz, was covered by the thing that normally covers the announce desk). Lumis placed Miz on the announce table and tried a diving leg drop off a ladder but Miz rolled off and Lumis crashed through the table. Miz limped into the ring and climbed the ladder but Lumis recovered and chucked him off.

Lumis was about to grab the money bags to win but was attacked by the returning Bronson Reed.

Reed splashed Lumis before helping Miz climb the ladder. The crowd booed as Miz grabbed the money for the win.

********

Sami Zayn defeated AJ Styles (12:54)

(Styles was alone because Gallows and Anderson were being checked on backstage.)

Styles beat up Zayn for a few minutes before Zayn tripped him off the ropes. Styles hit a rack bomb for two following a break. Zayn blocked a Styles Clash before hitting a big boot and an awesome brainbuster for two.

Styles hit a series of strikes, absorbed a boot by Zayn and hit a Pelé Kick. Zayn countered a reverse DDT and suplexed Styles into the turnbuckles. Styles blocked a Helluva Kick and applied a calf crusher but Zayn got a rope break.

Sikoa made his way down through the crowd and the distraction allowed Zayn to try a schoolboy for two. Styles fought off Zayn and set up for the Phenomenal forearm but instead went after Sikoa. Zayn tried to help Sikoa but Styles fought him off again and sent him back into the ring.

As the ref checked on Zayn, Sikoa gave Styles the Samoan Spike. Zayn followed with a Blue Thunder Bomb for the pinfall win. Good match.

— A pissed-off Pearce came out and screamed at Zayn and Sikoa to leave. Zayn was amused.

********

Next week is a Best of 2022 show. Seth Rollins will face Austin Theory for the US Title on the January 2nd edition of Raw.

[THIRD HOUR]

Seth Rollins/Austin Theory segment

Rollins entered. He was pumped to be in Des Moines, Iowa and the crowd chanted “welcome home.” Rollins noted that the Bloodline were attacking everyone but him and he had a message for the Ucey boys to deliver to the Tribal Chief: Mondays don’t belong to Roman Reigns, they belong to Seth freakin’ Rollins.

Theory entered and the crowd booed him for interrupting Rollins. Theory dropped a “the champ is here” line and he told Rollins that this was just the beginning of the Theory era. Theory said Rollins was going to pass the torch to him and if he didn’t, Theory would take it from his “cold, legendary hands.”

Rollins warned him to back off or he’d end up like Bobby Lashley. Theory said Rollins was lucky that Lashley took out his frustrations on officials and not him and that was typical because Rollins’ whole career has been lucky. Rollins knew that Theory has grown up but despite being the US champion, it eats him up that he will never be Seth Rollins.

Theory asked how many times Rollins was given the ball before fumbling it, just like his Chicago Bears. Theory told Rollins that he was just the third-most successful member of the Shield. (The crowd buzzed at that line but not that loudly.)

Rollins told Theory that he didn’t just reach the mountaintop, he was the mountaintop. Rollins said the man makes the title and wanted to find out what kind of man Theory was. Rollins challenged him to fight right now.

Before Theory could respond, the Usos appeared at ringside. Rollins warned Theory that they had company and told him that they’d deal with this later. Rollins and Theory got ready for the Usos but Theory left.

The Usos attacked Rollins until Kevin Owens entered. Owens and Rollins cleared the Usos from the ring. Pearce and security ran out to back off the Usos. Rollins and Owens challenged the Usos to a match and Pearce made it official.

********

Becky Lynch cut a backstage promo. Lynch wanted the best version of Bayley and that was a Bayley on her own. Lynch and Bayley both rose up and changed the game.

When Lynch rose to the top she did things on her own. Lynch knew that she had to take out those who were a threat but was disappointed that when Bayley took her out, she did it with help. Lynch asked Bayley if tonight would be one-on-one or one-on-three. Win or lose, Lynch would die on her own sword but Bayley couldn’t say the same. This was good.

********

WWE congratulated themselves on reaching 20 million followers on TikTok.

Bayley (w/Tag Team Champions Damage CTRL) defeated Becky Lynch (14:27)

Bayley took control ahead of a break thanks to her friends but Lynch fired back and got a few nearfalls after the break. Lynch was mostly in control until Bayley hit Bayley-to-belly for two. Lynch blocked a Roseplant and hit a modified Angle Slam, followed by Diamond Dust for two.

Bayley tried a cover with her feet on the rope but the ref caught her. Lynch went for Man-handle slam but Dakota Kai and IYO SKY pulled Bayley out of the ring. Lynch threatened to attack them with a TV monitor and the ref tossed them from ringside.

Kai was complaining to the ref on the apron so Lynch decked her. As the ref got Kai out of the ring, Bayley hit Lynch from behind with the monitor. Bayley followed with Roseplant for the pinfall win.

(The crowd liked Lynch but they were quiet for the match. The match itself was going along well until the finish.)

********

Owens approached Rollins in the back as he was getting ready. They agreed they were a great team in the past and Rollins wondered why they stopped. Owens reminded him that he tried to steal his WrestleMania spot with Steve Austin. Rollins wasn’t sure that was true while Owens was 98% sure. Rollins figured there was a 2% chance Owens was wrong but Owens was just trying to be nice — he was 100% sure.

Owens said that was all moot because tonight they had a common goal to take out the Usos. Rollins was happy with that and he laughed. After Rollins left, Owens said, “still got that laugh, huh?” Owens was great here.

********

Non-title match: Kevin Owens & Seth Rollins defeated Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso (10:50)

(I know it’s nothing new, but even more than usual it feels like they’re in the routine of having the heel side take control right before a break, always about three minutes into the match, only for the babyface to mount a comeback immediately after the break.)

The Usos took control before a break two minutes into the match and Rollins made a fiery comeback after the break, taking out both Usos with a flying crossbody.

Owens tagged in and hit Jimmy with a frog splash for two. Jey took out Rollins with a superkick outside the ring while Jimmy got his knees up on Owens’ Swanton attempt in the ring.

Sikoa appeared at ringside but Gallows and Anderson jumped him. Jey hit them with a dive before Rollins hit a dive of his own. Rollins avoided a charge by Sikoa who ran into the ring post and Rollins took out Jey with a stomp. If that wasn’t enough outside interference, Theory hit Rollins from behind with his title belt.

Owens and Jimmy battled on the ropes until Jimmy hit a superkick for a nearfall. Owens blocked a superkick and hit one of his own followed by a pop-up powerbomb for the pinfall win.

— As Owens celebrated, Zayn slipped into the ring behind him but Owens turned around in time to see him. They stared each other down until Zayn left the ring to join the Bloodline.

(The announcers plugged the Dec 30 Smackdown and Jan 2 Raw again before the show ended.)

Becky Lynch vs. Bayley announced for WWE Raw

A new match has been added to Monday’s Raw.

During a commercial on Friday’s SmackDown, it was announced the two will meet this Monday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The two have been embroiled in a feud that started following the events of Survivor Series, when Lynch returned to WWE and won the WarGames match for her team. After Bayley cost Lynch a number one contener’s match for the Raw Women’s Championship, Lynch attacked members of Damage Control on Monday’s show, preventing them from interfering in a match between Bayley and Alexa Bliss to determine the next number one contender to Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s title. Bliss ended up winning the match.

Already announced for Raw is a winner-take-all ladder match between Dexter Lumis and The Miz. The winner will get two bags of The Miz’s money.

Here is the updated card for Monday’s Raw:

  • Bayley vs .Becky Lynch
  • Dexter Lumis vs. The Miz in a winner-takes-all ladder match.

Show Recap —

As Bayley entered with Damage CTRL for the opening match, Becky Lynch jumped Dakota Kai and IYO SKY and cleared them from ringside leaving Bayley on her own.

Women’s Champion Bianca Belair entered to watch from ringside.

Women’s Title Number One Contender’s Match: Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley (13:22)

Bayley took control ahead of a break by shoving Bliss into the ring post. Bliss came back with a hurricanrana off the ropes (she landed awkwardly and seemed out of sorts for a moment) but Bayley quickly cut her off. Bliss gathered herself and hit a senton off the apron for a two count followed by a DDT for two.

Bayley flung Bliss into the turnbuckle before hitting a sunset flip powerbomb into the middle turnbuckle for two. Bayley also hit a Bayley-to-belly for two.

Bayley removed the middle buckle pad but got into an argument with Belair who showed the referee what she did. Bliss knocked down Bayley and hit Twisted Bliss for the pinfall win. This was not good.

— After the match, it seemed like Bliss and Belair would have a friendly face-off. However, Bray Wyatt’s logo flashed on the screen and Bliss grabbed Belair as if she would do Sister Abigail. However, Bliss came to and didn’t do it. Bliss acted like she didn’t know what just happened and she left.

********

Byron Saxton interviewed Alpha Academy earlier today about what happened with Kurt Angle on Smackdown. Chad Gable wasn’t impressed with Angle’s cheap parlour tricks.

AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Mia Yim walked by and they were laughing at something. In fact, they just so happened to be laughing at the clip of Angle dousing Alpha Academy with milk — sent to them by Karl Anderson who was taking care of business in Japan. Gable said Styles was a fossil just like Angle so Styles challenged him to a match.

(They made jokes about Otis still smelling like milk and Corey Graves continued the comedy by saying Otis doesn’t fit in hotel showers so those long car rides must be unpleasant.)

AJ Styles (w/Mia Yim & Luke Gallows) defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (9:07)

Bayley Gable took control ahead of a break by shoving Bliss Styles into the ring post steel steps. Styles was in control after the break but Gable came back with three straight German suplexes. Styles blocked the fourth attempt but Gable caught him again and hit a release German.

Gable applied an ankle lock but Styles countered into a calf crusher until Gable countered into the ankle lock again. Styles slipped out of it but Gable immediately followed with a Northern Lights suplex for two.

They traded a couple of counters until Styles hit Styles Clash for the pinfall win.

********

Johnny Gargano and Dexter Lumis were devising a plan on a whiteboard of what to do with all their money. (One idea was building fully functioning Iron Man suits for each of them.)

Candice LeRae showed up and said they were having trouble deciding what to do with the money because they already had everything they needed. She reminded them that it was the season of giving. Gargano said he had a plan.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed the Street Profits and Akira Tozawa. She asked the Profits why they helped Tozawa last week. Montez Ford said they helped Akira Tozawa because he was Akira Tozawa. Angelo Dawkins said Tozawa was, “my ninja.” Tozawa yelled, “we want the smoke” and drank whatever was in his red solo cup. They screamed at each other before heading to the ring.

Six-man tag team match: Judgment Day (w/Rhea Ripley) defeated Akira Tozawa & The Street Profits (14:38)

Like the first two matches, the heel side took control ahead of a break a few minutes into the match.

[SECOND HOUR]

They had the heat on Tozawa until he made a hot tag to Ford but he was tackled over the announce table by Damian Priest for the heat again. Ford made a tag to Dawkins but the ref didn’t see it thanks to Priest so they kept the heat on Ford.

Dawkins finally did get the hot tag and hit Finn Bálor with a running back elbow, enziguri and Silencer but Dominik Mysterio broke up the cover. Tozawa tagged in and hammered away on Dom. Everyone traded moves until Priest chokeslammed Ford and chucked Dawkins from the ring. Tozawa knocked Priest from the ring and hit a cool suicide dive on Dom.

Tozawa handed out DDTs to both Bálor and Dom. The ref was distracted again as Tozawa went to the top so Priest gave him a Razor’s Edge and Dom made the cover for the pinfall win.

(Priest was presented as the biggest threat in the match. The crowd got into Tozawa with the more he did to Dom.)

********

Johnny Gargano/Dexter Lumis/Miz segment

Gargano and Lumis bought all the merchandise from a merch table using a few wads of cash. Gargano decided to carry everything to the ring to give out to the live crowd (instead of handing it to the nearby fans). Lumis gave a teddy bear to a young fan who was very grateful.

After a break, Gargano and Lumis walked down the aisle and chucked merch into the crowd.

This went on for a while until Miz shoved Lumis from behind, knocking Gargano down in the process. Miz grabbed the bag of money and tried to run away with it but he was cut off at the stage by Adam Pearce.

Pearce followed Miz into the ring and told him to give the money back to Lumis. Miz pleaded with them and said he was willing to earn the money back in a rematch. (Miz was annoyed because Gargano kept calling him “Mike.”)

Gargano said Lumis was willing to have a rematch next week in a ladder match with both bags of money hanging above the ring. Miz was completely fine with this but wondered what he meant by “both” bags.

Gargano said Miz would have to add a second bag of money and they’d make it “double or nothing, winner take all, baby!” Miz again claimed he didn’t have cash and that Maryse controlled their money.

They bickered for a while until Gargano convinced Pearce that Miz should help them give out the rest of the merch dressed as Santa’s elf. Miz begrudgingly whipped t-shirts into the crowd.

(This segment was about as long as the Styles/Gable match.)

********

Tag Team Champion IYO SKY (w/Bayley & Dakota Kai) defeated Candice LeRae (10:21)

LeRae went to the top rope two minutes into the match but they went to break and we never found out what happened. SKY hit a Codebreaker off the ropes during the break but LeRae fought back and hit a Poison Rana outside the ring which led to a two count. SKY followed with a German suplex into a pin for two.

The finish felt a bit abrupt because SKY followed the German suplex by simply dragging LeRae to the corner and hitting a moonsault for the clean pinfall win. The crowd was quiet for this.

********

They showed a replay of Matt Riddle being taken out by Solo Sikoa last week. The announcers said Riddle would be out for six weeks.

Kelley tried interviewing Kevin Owens about what happened but Elias interrupted. Owens’ mouth was agape at the appearance of Elias. Elias asked Owens to be in his corner tonight.

Owens said he hasn’t forgotten about the months of torment by him earlier this year. Elias said that was his brother Ezekiel. Owens freaked out and said even if that were true, Elias hit him in the head with a guitar the last time they were in the ring together.

Elias asked Owens again to be in his corner because he needed him. Owens was speechless.

********

Elias was in the ring and performed a tribute concert for Riddle (there was a large picture of Riddle behind him).

Elias had something in his pocket from Riddle. He pulled out a large rolled-up paper which was meant to look like a joint but he revealed they were lyrics written by Riddle to be performed by him. Elias claimed they were written by Riddle, anyway. The song was all about how great Elias was. Sikoa interrupted.

Solo Sikoa (w/Sami Zayn) defeated Elias (8:11)

Fifth match of the night and they’ve all gone to break 2-3 minutes in.

[THIRD HOUR]

Elias hit Sikoa with strikes, consecutive Stinger splashes and a spinebuster for two, followed by a lifting knee strike and neckbreaker for two. Elias got distracted by Zayn despite Zayn not doing anything (which Zayn even pointed out) so Sikoa dropped Elias on the top rope before hitting a superkick and Spinning Solo for the pinfall win.

(The crowd did their usual chants at Zayn as this started but was quiet for the match itself.)

— Sikoa attacked Elias after the match and hit him with the Samoan Spike (with Zayn’s assistance).

Sikoa put Elias’ head through a chair and was going to kill him with a running hip attack but Owens ran out and gave Sikoa a stunner. Zayn left with Sikoa who recovered very quickly from the stunner. (Sikoa wanted to go after Owens but Zayn stopped him.)

Elias tried to embrace Owens so Owens gave him a stunner.

********

There was a video package narrated by John Cena highlighting the history of Tribute to the Troops. The crowd cheered and chanted “USA.”

They showed a few pictures of an annoyed Miz, dressed as an elf, giving merch to fans.

********

Asuka didn’t wear face paint and was way more serious than usual during her entrance.

Rhea Ripley (w/Dominik Mysterio) defeated Asuka (11:41)

Asuka drove Ripley into the post and hit a Codebreaker on the apron leading to break three minutes into the match. (Make that six matches in a row.) With no explanation, Ripley was in control following the break.

Asuka fired back with strikes and knocked Ripley down with a roundhouse kick for two. Ripley dared Asuka to hit her again so she did with a sliding kick for two. Dom checked on Ripley after Asuka knocked her off the apron.

Asuka told Dom to get out of the way. She feigned kicking him and he fell on his ass. The distraction allowed Ripley to shove Asuka into the side of the ring.

Ripley tried Riptide but Asuka countered into an Asuka Lock. Dom pulled Ripley closer to the ropes so she could get a rope break.

Asuka misted Dom but Ripley shoved Asuka into Dom (knocking him off the apron) and hit Riptide for the pinfall win.

(Asuka looked good. The crowd was quiet again.)

********

A trainer tended to Dom who frantically complained that his eyes were burning. Priest told him it could be worse — something else could be burning. Ripley smacked him and told the trainer to do something.

Elsewhere, Dolph Ziggler put over the importance of the US Title which is why two of the best, Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins, were gunning for it. Ziggler said Austin Theory was technically holding the title but was not the deserving champion. He warned Theory to watch his back.

(There were video packages throughout the evening for Theory, Rollins, and Lashley.)

********

US Title Number One Contender’s Match: Seth Rollins defeated Bobby Lashley (12:54)

Lashley dumped Rollins over the barricade and they went to break less than three minutes into the match. (That’s all seven matches that have gone to break 2-3 minutes in.)

Rollins fought back with a high cross, dives, a superkick, and a falcon arrow for two. Lashley drove him into the ring post but Rollins avoided a spear and hit a superkick for two, followed by a frog splash for two.

Lashley blocked a stomp and hit a powerslam. Rollins slipped out of a Hurt Lock as the referee fell out of the ring (while trying to avoid a collision). Lashley hit a spear but the ref took a few seconds to get back in the ring and Rollins kicked out.

Lashley argued with the ref before setting up for another spear. Rollins countered that spear into a Pedigree for the pinfall win. Rollins is the number one contender.

— Lashley popped right up from the Pedigree to argue with the ref before shoving him down. Adam Pearce sprinted out and told Lashley that he warned him about this already. Lashley shoved Pearce into the barricade. (They tried to make it sound like Pearce called him a motherf**ker but he didn’t really.)

Pearce was pissed so he fired Lashley.

WWE Raw video highlights: Alexa Bliss, Bayley advance to contender’s match

Either Alexa Bliss or Bayley will be the next challenger for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship.

Two triple threat matches were held on Raw last night to decide who will compete in a Raw Women’s Championship number one contender’s match next Monday. Bayley defeated Asuka and Rhea Ripley in the first triple threat bout, while Bliss defeated Nikki Cross and Becky Lynch in the main event.

Bayley and Lynch had an interaction earlier in the episode discussing their recent history. It appeared that Lynch was going to win her triple threat match and advance to face Bayley next week, but Damage CTRL’s Dakota Kai and IYO SKY interfered and attacked Lynch. They laid out Lynch with a powerbomb through the announce table.

With Lynch out of the picture, Bliss hit Twisted Bliss on Cross and pinned her to get the victory.

Show Recap —

Judgment Day promo

Rhea Ripley said that AJ Styles found out what the idiot fans should already know, that Judgment Day runs Raw and that Dominik Mysterio was all man. Finn Bálor called it an all-time great match and said Styles fell to the legend, Dominik. Damian Priest demanded that the crowd rise for Dominik, the greatest luchador in history.

Dominik spoke as the crowd booed over him. Dom said he was built differently and Ripley said, “yeah you are!” Dom first called himself this generation’s Eddie Guerrero before saying that Eddie was actually his generation’s Dominik Mysterio. The crowd booed.

AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson interrupted. Styles told Dom to shut up. He said North Carolina knew great wrestling when they saw it and Dom was not it. Styles said Dom belonged to the generation of James Ellsworth. Styles said Dom wouldn’t be able to hide behind Judgment Day for long.

Bálor said Styles was hiding behind a group that he created and everyone who joined that group after him was living off of his name. Anderson told him to stop talking so he could show him that he was the toughest man in the building.

They cleared the ring and the match started before they went to break 30 seconds later.

Finn Bálor (w/Judgment Day) defeated Karl Anderson (w/AJ Styles & Luke Gallows) (17:11)

They went to a second break about 8 minutes later after Anderson hit a spinebuster for two. Anderson hit a running sit-out powerbomb immediately following the break for two. Bálor came back with a headlock elbow drop for two.

Anderson flew off the ropes moments later with a neckbreaker for a nearfall. Bálor came back with a slingblade and a shotgun dropkick but Anderson tripped him off the top rope and followed with a superplex.

Dom got on the apron so Styles yanked him off. Priest wiped out Styles before Gallows took out Priest. Ripley then pushed Gallows into the ring post and gave him a scoop slam. (This really popped the crowd and they made sure to show a replay post-match.)

Anderson got Bálor on his shoulders but Ripley gave him a low blow as Dom distracted the referee and Bálor crawled on Anderson for the pinfall win.

This was good. The crowd was quiet for the first half but they were into the second half. They also gave Anderson a fair bit in this match.

********

Johnny Gargano and Miz had an argument backstage. Gargano was still pressuring him to tell the truth. Miz said he wasn’t hiding anything and planned on going to the ring to set the record straight. Gargano was happy to hear it.

********

They showed a clip of Styles hanging out with NASCAR driver Corey LaJoie. LaJoie was shown in the front row downing a beer. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was also shown in the crowd and he got a big ovation.

Miz/Gargano segment

(This turned into a comedy segment which didn’t do Gargano any favours.)

Miz entered. He told us the “truth” by simply running down recent events with Dexter Lumis (whose name he wouldn’t say aloud). He noted that he was kidnapped from his tag partner Tommaso Ciampa who we have not seen since.

Miz also mentioned being taken by Lumis and waking up in precarious situations that he doesn’t want to speak about. Miz pleaded with everyone to tell him if they’d seen his best friend Ciampa.

Gargano interrupted. He said Ciampa wasn’t missing and, in fact, he texted Ciampa a few minutes ago. Ciampa was just injured. He implored Miz to tell the real truth or else he’ll blow his whistle on Miz. The crowd encouraged him to blow the whistle.

Miz claimed he was telling the truth and kept saying “truth” repeatedly which led to R-Truth entering. Truth did his whole entrance with song. Truth said Miz wanted to “tell the Truth,” so he awaited Miz’s response. Miz said Truth must be losing it after eating food from North Carolina. Truth told him not to insult his hometown’s macaroni and cheese.

Truth challenged Miz to a match and Miz said no. Gargano thought Lumis only deflated Miz’s balls, he didn’t realize Miz didn’t have any balls left. He popped for his own joke, as did Truth. Miz accepted the match which led to Gargano and Truth saying, “you can’t handle the truth” simultaneously.

R-Truth defeated The Miz (2:46)

Truth did John Cena’s usual comeback before Miz cut him off with his attempt at Bryan Danielson’s running knee. A man in a hood appeared in the front row which distracted Miz so Truth caught him in a schoolboy for the pinfall win. The hooded man revealed himself as Gargano.

********

Cathy Kelley did a sit-down interview with Candice LeRae. LeRae talked about all the changes in their (her and Gargano’s) lives lately. She mentioned the support she was getting from the likes of Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Bianca Belair.

Damage CTRL interrupted and sent Kelley on her way. Bayley basically tried to intimidate LeRae who didn’t back down. LeRae has learned that IYO SKY was still untrustworthy, Dakota Kai was still spiteful, and Bayley was still not the Women’s Champion.

Bayley told her that they were still in control of the division. Bayley shoved the cameraperson down and they put the boots to LeRae (which we could only hear).

[SECOND HOUR]

Elias ran into Matt Riddle and his bongos backstage. Elias called himself a serious musician who hated being interrupted but he liked Riddle because he was friends with Ezekiel.

Chad Gable and Otis interrupted. Gable said their band name should be “Blink One-eighty-shoosh.” He noted that Elias played the keyboard last week and wondered if kazoos would be next. He said Elias should shave his beard so he could look like that moron Ezekiel.

Elias warned him not to talk about his younger brother that way. Gable warned him that Otis ate bigger pieces of crap than him for breakfast. Riddle responded with a line from Happy Gilmore. (Corey Graves made sure to point this out.)

********

Seth Rollins entered before the upcoming match to join commentary. The crowd hummed his song during the match and chanted, “we want Seth.”

Austin Theory defeated Mustafa Ali (12:03)

After a break, Theory decided to take a mid-match selfie so Ali dropkicked him and made his comeback which included a rolling neckbreaker for two and by a tornado DDT for two. Ali went for another DDT after missing a 450 splash but Theory countered into a neckbreaker for two.

Rollins encouraged Theory to finish it but Ali countered his finisher and hit a backstabber. Ali went to the top but Rollins distracted the ref. The extra time allowed Theory to trip Ali off the top rope. Theory hit his finisher, now called “A-Town Down,” for the pinfall win. Rollins raised Theory’s hand.

Three matches, three distraction finishes.

(I’m not sure what the point of the distraction was. Theory’s counter was legal and could have happened without Rollins. Maybe the distraction made Ali hesitate, but it didn’t come across that way, and there was no reason for him to hesitate anyway.)

— Rollins attacked Ali after the match and sent him into the crowd. It seemed like the segment was over as Rollins posed on the ramp but Ali flew in and attacked him. Ali launched Rollins into the videoboard but Rollins managed to escape as officials held back Ali.

********

JBL and Baron Corbin ran into Gargano backstage. JBL called Gargano an internet hero and independent darling. He said Gargano had to spend ten years in Triple-A, while he and Corbin went straight to the bigs.

JBL told Gargano that when he sees a Hall of Famer backstage, to show respect and shake his hand. He also said Gargano should respect Miz and said that if Gargano was around during the Attitude Era, he’d be carrying his bags.

Gargano noted he was eight years old during the Attitude Era but offered his hand to JBL before referring to him as “MC Hammer pants” (in reference to JBL’s ill-fitting pants last week). He also wondered what Corbin’s newest name was and accidentally on purpose called him Boring Corbin. JBL said they’d see him in the ring.

********

There was a Belair/Bayley video package.

The announcers congratulated Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on the success of Black Adam.

1-on-4 handicap match: Omos (w/MVP) defeated four guys (1:40)

Omos won.

MVP cut a promo on Braun Strowman before the match.

********

Elias defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (9:30)

This went to break after Elias fell out of the ring because Otis pulled the rope down on him. Gable was in control after the break and hit a flying headbutt. Elias made a comeback but another distraction allowed Gable to apply an ankle lock until Elias slipped out.

Gable went for a moonsault but Elias caught him mid-air with a cool-looking knee strike. (The ref checked on Gable who seemed fine.) Elias avoided a charge by Otis who ran into the ring post and followed with Drift Away on Gable for the pinfall win.

— Otis and Gable attacked Elias after the match but Riddle ran out to make the save. Riddle cleared the ring and wiped out Alpha Academy with a dive.

********

The OC was backstage in the trainer’s room. Anderson whimpered as he held an ice pack to his balls (because of Ripley’s earlier low blow). Styles admitted they have a Rhea problem. Gallows wasn’t worried because they all knew he was the best with women.

Styles said she body-slammed him earlier and Gallows said that was his love language. Gallows left to smooth things over with her. Anderson, still in pain, was baffled and said Gallows was the worst with women. Styles told him to keep the ice pack on.

********

JBL entered ahead of a break.

[THIRD HOUR]

Gallows limped back into the trainer’s room. Gallows said Ripley got him too and took the ice back from Anderson to put on his own balls. Styles knew they had to do something.

********

JBL said the people of NC were losers which is why they liked Gargano. He noted that Gargano was from Cleveland and Cleveland’s former quarterback Baker Mayfield was now leading the Carolina Panthers to a losing record. They also turned Michael Jordan into a loser because Charlotte is where dreams go to die. He introduced us to the new wrestling god Baron Corbin.

JBL joined commentary. He again made references to Gargano wrestling in Single-A (I said Triple-A earlier) and repeatedly said Gargano should be carrying his bags.

Baron Corbin (w/JBL) defeated Johnny Gargano (14:08)

They went to break after Corbin slammed Gargano onto the announce table. The crowd chanted, “you can’t wrestle” at Corbin moments before Gargano made a comeback which included a slingshot spear for two. Corbin hit a fallaway slam for two.

Gargano came back with strikes but Corbin hit Deep Six for two. Corbin tried the thing where he slips in and out of the ring but Gargano caught him with a superkick on the way back in for a nearfall.

They fought outside the ring and Gargano got the upper hand after Corbin went into the steel steps. Gargano stood on the announce table, put on JBL’s cowboy hat and did a little dance before giving Corbin a tornado DDT. Gargano feigned giving JBL his back but kept it.

That pissed off JBL who tripped Gargano on the apron. Corbin followed with End of Days for the pinfall win.

Fourth distraction finish of the evening.

(For the second straight week, JBL did all the talking for Corbin who did not say a word.)

********

Kelley interviewed Belair. Belair said a win tonight would put an end to this and it was about time now that others like LeRae were catching strays. Tonight was about payback because Bayley has taken out every single one of her friends. She wanted to make sure Bayley left tonight with nothing.

********

Backstage, Miz gave Gargano a get-well card for Candice on behalf of him and Maryse. (Did he leave the arena and come back?) Gargano admitted that was nice of him. Miz wanted them to hash things out but all Gargano wanted was for him to tell the truth. If Miz didn’t do it next week, then he would.

Before leaving, Gargano opened the card and complained that Miz didn’t even sign it. He mentioned that Miz was rich and could have at least put some money in it.

********

There was a video package for Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar will appear on Raw next week in Dallas.

********

Non-title match: Bayley (w/Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) defeated Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair (23:05)

They had an excellent match that ended when a returning Nikki Cross attacked Belair.

There was a great spot early on where Belair did a backflip out of the corner and Bayley responded by running and clubbing her in the face with a forearm. Belair responded with a backbreaker and slingshot dive, leading to break. Bayley was randomly in control after the break and hit a vertical suplex outside the ring. Belair set up for KOD but Bayley yanked her arm on the top rope.

Belair came back with a vertical suplex, shoulder tackles, dropkick, corner punches, and body slam but Bayley got her knees up on a standing moonsault. Bayley tried a diving elbow but Belair got her knees up and hit the standing moonsault for two. Bayley gave Belair a draping DDT off the barricade which led to another break.

Bayley tried a KOD but Belair countered into a Bayley-to-belly for two. Bayley tried to use Belair’s braid so Belair yanked her with it into the steel steps before hitting a spinebuster for two. Belair went to the top but SKY got on the apron and Belair stopped what she was doing for some reason. Bayley used the distraction to hit a Bayley-to-belly off the middle rope for a nearfall.

Bayley instructed SKY and Kai to clear the announce desk. Belair clubbed them both with forearms, then powerbombed Bayley on the desk (which didn’t break), slammed her into the ring post and onto the apron (without ever letting go).

Belair shoved Bayley into the ring but as the ref checked on Bayley, SKY and Kai attacked Belair. The ref yelled at SKY and Kai and told them to leave.

As they argued with him, a mysterious woman (Nikki Cross) flew off the top rope and wiped out all three of them with a dive.

Belair countered Bayley’s Rose Plant and hit a KOD but the ref was out. Cross shoved Belair shoulder-first into the ring post and hit her with a swinging fisherman neckbreaker. Bayley crawled into a cover and a new referee counted the pinfall win.

Nikki Cross (which is what they called her) attacked Bayley after the match as well. Kevin Patrick said he’s never seen this unhinged side of Nikki before. Graves said, “I have” and said Cross was about to become a problem for the rest of the division.

(The match itself was really good but the quiet crowd, which has been oddly quiet all night, didn’t help.)

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley announced for next week’s WWE Raw

An Extreme Rules rematch is set for next Monday’s WWE Raw.

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will face Bayley in a non-title match on the October 24 episode. The match was announced during this week’s show.

Belair successfully defended the Raw Women’s title against Bayley in a ladder match at Extreme Rules on October 8 in Philadelphia.

Bayley returned from a knee injury at SummerSlam in July alongside Dakota Kai and IYO SKY to begin a program with Belair that has also involved Asuka and Alexa Bliss teaming with Belair.

Kai and SKY eliminated Asuka and  Bliss from the Women’s Tag Team title tournament on the August 22 Raw episode, and Bayley, Kai, and SKY then defeated Belair, Asuka, and Bliss in a trios match at Clash at the Castle on September 3.

Belair vs. Bayley is the only match official for next week’s Raw, which will take place at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Extreme Rules contract signing set for WWE Raw

WWE has made some new announcements for Raw’s Extreme Rules go-home show.

Ahead of their ladder match for the Raw Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules, Bianca Belair and Bayley will meet for a contract signing on Raw this Monday. The contract signing comes after Belair saved Shotzi from an attack by Bayley on last night’s SmackDown.

Bayley defeated Shotzi on SmackDown and then went to attack Shotzi with a ladder. after the match, but Belair ran out to make the save. Belair tried to give Bayley a KOD onto the ladder, but Bayley was able to escape.

Extreme Rules is taking place in Philadelphia next Saturday (October 8).

Monday’s Raw will also feature a face-to-face segment with Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins ahead of their Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules. A “no contact clause” has been put in place, which means that Riddle and Rollins can’t put their hands on the other before Extreme Rules. If they do, they’ll be removed from the match.

Plus, WWE has announced that Rey Mysterio will team up with AJ Styles against The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor & Damian Priest on Monday’s Raw. The updated lineup for the episode is listed below:

  • Contract signing for Bianca Belair and Bayley’s Raw Women’s Championship ladder match at Extreme Rules
  • Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins go face-to-face
  • Rey Mysterio & AJ Styles vs. The Judgment Day
  • Braun Strowman vs. Chad Gable
  • Johnny Gargano vs. Otis
  • Candace LeRae vs. Dakota Kai

Show Recap

Sami Zayn & Solo Sikoa vs. Ricochet & Madcap Moss (12:34)

Not surprisingly, this was a fun opener and a fast-paced match. Everyone worked hard. It had a ton of heat, with the fans treating Zayn and Sikoa as the faces. They didn’t hate Ricochet or Moss; they just loved Zayn so much more.

A video package recapped Roman Reigns giving Sami Zayn an Honorary Uce t-shirt last week. Next, they aired highlights of Sikoa attacking Moss and Ricochet backstage.

The fans love Zayn and broke into a “Sami” chant within seconds. Ricochet had the early advantage with a standing dropkick on Zayn. Moss continued the beat down on Zayn. Zayn recovered and tagged in Sikoa to a big pop. The heels were briefly in control.

As the fans broke into another “Sami” chant, Moss dumped Zayn and Sikoa out of the ring. Moss then assisted Ricochet with his dive to the floor.

Back from the break, Sikoa was firmly in control with a nerve hold. Ricochet tried fighting back, but Sikoa hit a Samoan drop for a near fall. He followed up with a big leg drop. Ricochet fired up and hit a missile dropkick off the middle turnbuckle.

Moss and Zayn tagged in at the same time. Moss got a hot tag, but the fans booed him. Instead, the fans popped for Zayn. Moss ran wild on Zayn to a lackluster reaction. Sikoa grabbed a chair to a loud pop. Ricochet cut Sikoa off, and Moss knocked him off the apron.

Zayn rolled up Moss for a near fall to a big pop. He then hit the blue thunder for a close two-count. Zayn hit a flying cross body, but Moss rolled through. Ricochet ran wild and went for a suicide dive on Sikoa. Instead, Sikoa threw a chair at Ricochet. He then tossed him into the timekeeper’s area. The finish came when Sikoa made the blind tag and hit the spinning Solo on Moss for the win.

Zayn trashed talked Moss after the match. Moss heard enough and grabbed Zayn by the neck until Sikoa made the save. Sikoa beat down Moss until Zayn stopped him.

Back from the break, Zayn and Sikoa walked towards the Bloodline locker room. Jey Uso opened the door and let his brother enter. He wouldn’t let Zayn in and got in his face. He noted that Zayn has everyone else fooled except for him. Zayn told him to take it up with Roman and walked into the Bloodline locker room. Jey wasn’t happy.

Karrion Kross and Scarlett cut a promo on Drew McIntyre in a pre-tape. It included highlights of the fireball and Kross locking on the Kross Jacket on McIntyre. He promised to defeat him in the leather strap match at Extreme Rules.

*******

Backstage, Kayla Braxton interviewed Austin Theory about cashing in the Money in the bank briefcase. Theory blamed Brock Lesnar and Tyson Fury for his failed cash-in attempts.

Theory started burying Drew McIntyre for losing at Clash at the Castle. Of course, McIntyre was standing behind Theory. He demanded Theory meet him in the ring now.

Drew McIntyre defeated Austin Theory (w/The Alpha Academy) (1:55)

McIntryre pretty much squashed Theory. It really wasn’t much of a match, but the post-match angle was hot. Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens ran out to a big pop.

It was more an angle to set up the main event. Later, they announced Drew McIntyre, Johnny Gargano, and Kevin Owens vs. Austin Theory & Alpha Academy in the main event tonight.

As Theory walked out, he introduced Alpha Academy for the advantage over McIntyre.

Theory chopped McIntyre a few times, but McIntyre took over. He threw Theory around the ring and rocked him with vicious chops. Theory briefly fought back, but McIntyre regained control.

McIntyre set up for the claymore, but Chad Gable jumped on the apron. McIntyre pulled Gable into the ring, allowing Otis to pull him out for the disqualification.

Theory and Alpha Academy jumped McIntyre after the match. Johnny Gargano ran out for the save, but it still wasn’t enough to even the odds. Kevin Owen’s music hit to a huge pop. The faces cleared the ring of the heels. Owens and Gargano gave Otis superkicks, followed by a Glasgow kiss from McIntrye.

*******

In the back, Max Durpi approached Maxine and the Maximum Male Models. They apologized for disappointing him last week but promised to win the title tonight. He thought they got a title shot against The Uso, but they meant holding the longest pose. Dupri walked off. Hit Row walked up and made fun of the models as they held their poses.

*******

In a backstage promo, Shotzi noted she’s sick of Damage Control. She’s not the type to sit on the sidelines weighing her options. She promised to defeat Bayley later.

*******

Hit Row (w/B-Fab) vs. Los Lotharios (2:26)

Hit Row vs. Los Lotharios was just kind of there and too short to be anything. It was pretty much Top Dolla squshing the heels.

Los Lotharios briefly isolated Ashante “Thee” Adonis until Top Dolla got the hot tag. He tossed Humberto around the ring and hit an elbow for a near fall. He then gave Los Lotharios a double slam. Hit Row hit the heavy hitter for the win.

********

They cut to Michael Cole and Corey Graves talking about the previous match. Standing directly behind Cole and Graves was a fan holding a large black sign with the words “Revel In What You Are” in white letters. They never called attention to it, but it was clearly the focus. It appeared to be another White Rabbit clue.

******

A video package of Liv Morgan putting Lacey Evans through a table aired next. Kayla Braxton interviewed Ronda Rousey in the locker room. She called Morgan Hooters Barbie. Rousey noted she’s already dangerous but will be more dangerous with a baseball bat.

Ronda Rousey defeated Natalya (3:26)

Despite only getting three minutes, Rousey and Natalya had a short but fun match. They based it around doing submissions. The post-match pull-apart brawl between Morgan and Rousey was good. They both showed a lot of fire and got the fans into the angle.

Natalya got a pop coming out. Rousey got a good reaction with lots of cheers.

Natalya and Rousey traded submission holds on the mat. Natalya escaped and ran to the corner. Rousey went for a flying knee, but Natalya countered with a powerbomb. The fans broke into a “Ronda Rousey” chant.

Natalya went for the sharpshooter but Rousey revesred into an armbar. Natalya caught Rousey with a discus clothesline for a near fall. Rousey recovered quickly and beat Natalya with the ankle lock.

After the match, Liv Morgan walked out with a baseball bat. Rousey jumped out of the ring and walked towards Morgan. They had a brief stare down. They started brawling around ringside as Morgan used the bab. Rousey threw Morgan, and the bat flew into the ring.

Morgan and Rousey fought over the bat. Security ran out as Rousey tossed Morgan over the barricade. Security surrounded Rousey and asked her to leave. After a few moments, Rousey agreed to leave and started walking.

In the background, Morgan got back to her feet and tackled Rousey down. Security struggled to separate them but eventually did. The fans went crazy for the brawl.

*******

In the back, Kevin Owens, Drew McIntyre, and Johnny Gargano discussed their upcoming match. McIntyre joked about Gargano trusting Owens.

Owens walked down the hallway and saw the Maximum Male Models still holding their pose. Owens told Mace to raise his hand to make the pose more effective. That hilarious line made the models posing segment worth it.

Owens crossed paths with Sami Zayn to a big pop. Owens told Zayn that he needed to get a different shirt.

Later, Sonya Deville and Shinsuke Nakamura watched the Maximum Male Models continue to hold their poses.

*******

Imperium Promo

Sheamus came out to confront Imperium on his own and got a good reaction. The heels beat down Sheamus, but he called them back to the ring. This was a simple but effective angle.

Imperium came down to the ring for a promo. Ludwig Kaiser mentioned their problems with The Brawling Brutes. Giovanni Vinci praised Gunther and called him a real champion. Gunther then promised to defeat Sheamus next week and end the Brawling Brutes.

Sheamus interrupted and came to the ring alone. He noted that Butch and Ridge Holland are stuck in Florida. He said it’s okay because he’s in Winnipeg. He challenged Imperium to a fight.

Sheamus fought off Vinci and Kaiser with a shillelagh. He got in the ring and started trading shots with Gunther.

Sheamus set up for the Brogue Kick, but Kaiser and Vinici recovered. They held Sheamus down as Gunther beat Sheamus with vicious chops. He then powerbombed Sheamus and walked off.

Sheamus laughed into the mic and challenged Gunther to come back. The fans broke into a loud “Sheamus” chant. Imperium got back in the ring and jumped Sheamus. Gunther then knocked out Sheamus with his own shillelagh.

********

In a backstage promo, Bayley noted that Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai are stuck in Flordia. She promised to defeat Shotzi later.

********

Michael Cole and Corey Graves discussed Antonio Inoki’s passing. Graves mentioned Inoki’s controversial WWE Championship title reign and his legendary fight with Muhammed Ali.

********

Bayley defeated Shotzi (6:34)

This was a bit of a disappointment only because most of the match was during the break. Bayley and Shotzi didn’t have a bad match, but it lacked heat. The fans did pop for the post-match angle with Bianca Belair.

Shotzi came out in the tank for her entrance. Cole was very excited to see the tank back.

Shotzi avoided Bayley’s clothesline by sliding on her knees. Bayley tried fighting back, but Shotzi quickly took over.

Back from the break, Shotzi was firmly in control and gave Bayley a suplex in the corner. She climbed to the middle turnbuckle, but Bayley cut her off. She yanked Shotzi off the corner by her leg. Bayley then hit the rose plant for the win.

Bayley continued to attack Shotzi after the match. She hit another rose plant and brought in a ladder. Bayley put Shotzi in the ladder, but Bianca Belair ran out for the save. Bayley tried to give Belair the rose plant on the ladder, but Belair reversed into the KOD. Bayley grabbed the rope and escaped.

*******

In the back, Maximum Male Models were close to breaking the record when Max Dupri jumped Mansoor. He mocked them, threw his belt at them, and said this wasn’t for him.

Drew McIntyre, Johnny Gargano & Kevin Owens defeated Austin Theory & Alpha Academy (9:49)

Everyone worked hard and the match built to the faces hitting their big moves. Nobody in the arena thought the heels had a chance of winning. It was more about having a fun match to end the night.

The heels took over and cut Gargano off from his corner. They were firmly in control until Gargano recovered and speared Theory. The faces cleared the ring, and Owens hit a cannonball off the apron onto Gable and Theory.

Back from the break, the heels were back in control as they isolated Gargano. Gargano went for one final beat, but Gable countered into a Northern light suplex for a near fall in an awesome spot.

Theory attacked McIntyre and pulled him off the apron. It didn’t matter as Owens got the hot tag and ran wild. He hit the cannonball on Gable and followed with the Swanton Bomb, but Otis broke up the pin attempt.

McIntyre tagged in and ran wild on Theory. He hit the belly-to-belly suplex and a neck breaker. He went for the claymore, but Theory slipped out the ring.

Otis attacked McIntyre at ringside. Owens and Gargano hit a double superkick on Otis and tried to put him through the commentary desk. Gable made the save and went on the table with Owens instead.

Owens hit the stunner on Gable on the table. In the ring, McIntyre hit the claymore on Theory for the win.

After the match, McIntyre grabbed a strap and whipped Theory to end SmackDown.

Next Week: On the season premiere of SmackDown, Roman Reigns and Logan Paul meet face-to-face. Plus, Intercontinental Champion Gunther defends against Sheamus. Also, Ricochet goes one-on-one with Solo Sikoa.

Ladder stipulation added to Raw Women’s title match at WWE Extreme Rules

A ladder match stipulation has been added to the Raw Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules.

The opening of Monday’s Raw had Bayley and Bianca Belair confronting one another after Belair was attacked last week by Bayley. The end of the segment had Bayley challenging Belair to a ladder match at Extreme Rules, which takes place October 8. Belair accepted.

Belair later faced IYO SKY in a singles match, with the rest of Damage Control in SKY’s corner and Asuka & Alexa Bliss in Belair’s corner. Belair proceeded to pick up the win, posing with the title after the match.

Bayley has continued to feud with Belair following Clash at the Castle, when Bayley pinned Belair in a six-woman tag match. Damage Control ended Raw last week laying out Belair, Asuka, and Bliss after Bayley defeated Bliss in a singles match. Bayley told Belair that she wanted the Raw Women’s title, and the match would take place at Extreme Rules.

Here is the latest lineup for Extreme Rules, which will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

  • Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair vs. Bayley in a ladder match
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey in an Extreme Rules match
  • Strap match: Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross
