Angel Garza and wife welcome birth of second child

Angel Garza and Zaide Lozano have welcomed a new addition to their family.

On Saturday, Garza announced the birth of the couple’s second child, Alia Atenea. Alia joins her older sister Dara, who was born in July 2022.

Wrestling fans may recall that Garza and Lozano became engaged shortly after Garza won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. After Garza defeated Lio Rush at the December 11, 2019 taping at Full Sail University, he proposed to Lozano in the middle of the ring as fans cheered them on. Lozano also appeared on a 2020 episode of Raw, portraying a ringside photographer who received a kiss from Garza during his entrance. The couple married in June 2020.

Garza revealed last summer that he had signed a new three-year contract with WWE. He initially joined the company in 2019 and made his main roster debut in 2020. Garza last wrestled on the February 14 edition of WWE SmackDown, teaming with Humberto in a losing effort against The Motor City Machine Guns.

Angel Garza out of action following wrist surgery

Angel Garza is out of action.

In a message on Facebook, Garza explained that he recently underwent surgery to remove ganglion cysts in his wrist and will soon undergo physical therapy. On Friday, he posted a picture of himself in the hospital with the caption “surgery day.”

Garza also shared pictures on Instagram with his hand in a cast.

Garza, along with cousin Humberto Carrillo, last wrestled on the October 18 edition of SmackDown where they and A-Town Down Under lost a match to the Motor City Machine Guns in their WWE debut. They had been featured in a segment the previous week where General Manager Adam Pearce said that they would earn a future title match if they defeated one of SmackDown’s newest teams.

After a stint in NXT, Angel and Berto made their re-debut on SmackDown earlier in the year as the newest incarnation of Legado del Fantasma along with Santos Escobar and Elektra Lopez.

In July, Garza announced that he had recently re-signed with WWE.

Angel Garza reveals he’s re-signed with WWE

Angel Garza has re-signed with WWE.

Garza had previously noted that his and Humberto Carrillo’s WWE deals expired this summer. However, he revealed on a recent Facebook livestream that the company offered him a three-year deal that he couldn’t turn down.

It is unclear if WWE has also re-signed Carrillo to a new deal.

Carrillo previously mentioned that Los Lotharios are not booked for WWE’s upcoming shows in Mexico on July 13 & 14. He wrote, “But it’s understandable, card is tight and the Mexican crowd wants to see other superstars as well! It’s just a little sad that so far we’re not contemplated for it. But we’ll see.”

Garza first signed with WWE in 2019 and debuted on the main roster in early 2020. He’s currently a member of the revamped Legado Del Fantasma faction along with Santos Escobar, Elektra Lopez, and Carrillo. Garza is a one-time NXT Cruiserweight Champion and once held the WWE 24/7 title as well.

Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo align with Santos Escobar on WWE SmackDown

Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza are back on the main roster.

Carrillo and Garza appeared in masks at the end of a match between Santos Escobar and Bobby Lashley on Friday’s SmackDown, attacking The Street Profits who were at ringside. The distraction allowed Escobar to roll up Lashley for the win, advancing to the finals of the United States title tournament that will determine the next challenger for champion Logan Paul.

After the match, Garza and Carrillo removed their masks, revealing their identities as they posed with Escobar.

Although they were drafted to Raw earlier this year as part of the 2023 WWE Draft, Garza and Carrillo instead started to make appearances in NXT this summer. They did a series of vignettes where they dropped their Lothario gimmick and instead wished to honor their grandfather’s legacy. Their most recent match was on the November 28 edition of NXT, losing to Tony D’Angelo and Stacks in a match that had been for the NXT Tag Team titles.

Tables, Ladders & Scares match to kick off WWE NXT Halloween Havoc night two

A stipulation match is set to kick off night two of WWE NXT Halloween Havoc.

The two-week Halloween Havoc special concludes on USA Network this Tuesday night. WWE announced today that a Tables, Ladders & Scares match with The Creed Brothers facing Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo will open the episode.

Last week, the Tables, Ladders & Scares stipulation was chosen via Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal.

Garza & Carrillo are looking to honor their ancestors and bring glory to their family by defeating The Creed Brothers.

Both teams were part of a number one contender’s battle royal on the October 17 episode of NXT. The Creed Brothers eliminated Garza & Carrillo, but the referees didn’t see it. With their elimination going unnoticed, Garza & Carrillo returned and eliminated Julius & Brutus Creed. The Creed Brothers then got their revenge by costing Garza & Carrillo the match as well.

It appears that the Creed Brothers are being called up to the WWE main roster. They’re facing Chad Gable & Otis on Raw tonight.

Tuesday’s NXT is taking place on Halloween night. Here’s everything that’s been announced for the episode:

NXT Halloween Havoc night two (Tuesday, October 31) —

  • NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov defends against Carmelo Hayes
  • NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio defends against Nathan Frazer
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Piper Niven defend against Thea Hail & Jacy Jayne
  • NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament finals: Kelani Jordan vs. Lola Vice
  • Bron Breakker vs. Mr. Stone
  • Tiffany Stratton vs. Fallon Henley
  • Tables, Ladders & Scares match: The Creed Brothers vs. Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo

Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo return to WWE NXT

Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza made their presence felt on this week’s NXT.

Tuesday’s show saw Carrillo and Garza attack Scrypts and Axiom after they successfully defeated Dabba Kato in a two-on-one handicap match. Later in the show, they appeared at the perch inside the WWE Performance Center, watching Edris Enofe & Malik Blade, Tank Ledger & Hank Walker, and Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen go after one another. They both cut a promo saying they came to NXT to be part of the tag team division.

Both Carrillo and Garza have previously appeared in NXT. In 2021, they started to team together on the main roster and were later given the tag team name Los Lotharios. Over the last year, however, they have only appeared sporadically on WWE television. Two of their three appearances in 2023 were in battle royals, and their most recent appearance was on the May 15 edition of Raw where they were eliminated in a match to determine the next challenger for the Intercontinental title.

WWE 24/7 title changes hands on New Year’s Eve

A new WWE 24/7 Champion was crowned on New Year’s Eve.

On TikTok’s New Year’s Eve party livestream, video aired of Angel Garza rolling up R-Truth to win the 24/7 title. Video of the title change is available to watch below:

This is the second straight year that the 24/7 title has changed hands on New Year’s Eve. There were two 24/7 title changes that took place in Times Square on Fox’s New Year’s Eve with Steve Harvey in 2019. Mojo Rawley pinned R-Truth to win the 24/7 title, but R-Truth then won the championship back from Rawley.

“GOLD BABY,” Garza tweeted on Thursday night. “Por segundo año consecutivo terminó el año con ORO. For second year in a row I end with GOLD. @RonKillings I’ll show you how to treat a BABY.”

This is the first time that Garza has held the 24/7 title. R-Truth’s most recent reign with the championship lasted from November’s Survivor Series pay-per-view until now.

WWE Main Event results: Ricochet vs. Garza, Carrillo vs. Tucker

The Big Takeaway:

Tucker debuted as a heel singles competitor, losing to Humberto Carrillo in a perfectly acceptable opener before Ricochet took care of business against Angel Garza in a really strong featured contest.

**********

Humberto Carrillo defeated Tucker (6:02)

Tucker and Otis had matches on Main Event a few times over the last year, but Tucker’s defeat here marked both his singles show debut and just his second ever WWE singles match.

Carrillo doesn’t miss many weeks on this show. He’s had 18 matches this year on Main Event winning nine of them and apart from still being guilty of overselling at times, he’s pretty damn good.

The result was a little strange, but they worked the usual WWE methodical style, pulling off the smoldering heel vs. the plucky, high-flying babyface dynamic pretty well in the time that they had.

In the end, it was a top rope battle as Tucker crotched Carrillo and looked for a superplex, but Carrillo maintained his footing and grabbed a sunset flip, rolling Tucker up for the surprise win.

Ricochet defeated Angel Garza (8:35)

Ricochet hasn’t lost on Main Event since June and has been somewhat of a regular since March. An affable and grateful guy at the best of times, he’s perhaps starting to show that he feels its time they did something with him.

WWE tweeted that this past week marked one year since he took on Drew McIntyre on Raw. Ricochet took the bait and bit with a ‘maybe it’s time for a rematch??’ response. The double question mark says it all and it doesn’t take much of an imagination to envisage the kinds of comments it drew.

He and Garza was a lot of fun as you might expect. Although this would easily sit alongside anything on Raw right now, their match went quite long for a Main Event bout and just started to get pretty good as they went home.

It felt as though this could go either way as the story of the match was about them going toe-to-toe. After a close near fall, Garza went for the Wing Clipper and hit him with a pop-up knee strike, but Ricochet had enough left to hit a clothesline and connect with the Kick Back for the win.

More of this each week would be fine by me, but, like a lot of these matches, if they let them off the leash and gave them time, they would likely produce something stellar.

Final Thoughts:

The cynics may think that Tucker’s reward for turning heel on Otis was to work Main Event this week, but with no house shows right now, wrestlers trialling new characters or tag teams splitting and working as singles have nowhere else to go.

WWE Main Event results: Carrillo vs. Garza, Ricochet vs. Metalik

The Big Takeaway:

On a show that he rarely loses on, Ricochet defeated Gran Metalik before Angel Garza dispensed with Humberto Carrillo in a strong match to close out the show.

**********

Ricochet defeated Gran Metalik (w/ Lince Dorado) (5:50)

Lucha House Party become two when Kalisto was drafted to SmackDown two weeks ago. The stable had had mixed success over the last two years, but were probably due a refresh and reset.

Ricochet’s plight continues as he is regularly relegated to this show despite being one of the most interesting in-ring workers on the active roster. Time will tell whether he is content to wait for his chance.

This was all action as you might expect. There was, however, quite a slow pace by the end as both men looked tired and labored.

In the end, Ricochet looked slightly heelish as he hit a modified suplex, growling and posturing to the crowd. He then hoisted Metalik up and nailed him with the Kick Back for the win.

Angel Garza defeated Humberto Carrillo (8:06)

Since making the move from 205 Live to the Raw roster back in February, Garza has had quite a bit of success. This being only his second appearance on Main Event, it was yet another win for the impressive 28-year-old from Mexico.

In comparison, the wins have really dried up for Carrillo who now finds himself somewhat of a Main Event regular and rather directionless.

They worked beautifully together at times, both generous with each other until they culminated in a nice creative finish where Garza was arguing with the ref over holding the tights.

Carrillo hit a missile dropkick and a crossbody for two near falls, but when Garza rolled him up and held the tights, the referee took issue with it. Garza dodged Carrillo’s attempts to take advantage, nailed him with a superkick, and hit the Wing Clipper for the win.

Final Thoughts:

These were two good matches, but there wasn’t much to go out of your way to find here. Ricochet and Garza should be used better elsewhere, but for now, they are by far the most entertaining thing on Main Event for some time.

Raw Tag Team title match official for WWE Clash of Champions

A Tag Team title match is the latest addition to the card for Clash of Champions.

Andrade & Angel Garza will challenge for The Street Profits’ Raw Tag Team titles at Sunday’s Clash of Champions pay-per-view. That was confirmed when Andrade & Garza defeated Seth Rollins & Murphy and Dominik Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo in a triple threat number one contender’s match on Raw tonight.

Andrade & Garza won tonight’s match after Rollins walked out on Murphy. Andrade hit a back elbow on Murphy and then Garza gave Murphy the Wing Clipper to get the win.

Zelina Vega wasn’t with Andrade & Garza on tonight’s Raw after seemingly splitting up with them last week. After weeks of dissension between Andrade & Garza, there was a backstage segment last Monday where Vega yelled at Garza for flirting with Lana. Garza blamed Andrade for losing their non-title match against The Street Profits the previous week. When Garza and Andrade argued, Vega told them she can’t do this anymore and walked out on them. Andrade & Garza then brawled but were back teaming together tonight.

Vega is facing Mickie James on Raw tonight. The winner will challenge for Asuka’s Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions.

Here’s the updated card for Sunday’s PPV:

  • WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton in an ambulance match
  • Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against Jey Uso
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Nikki Cross
  • Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy defends against AJ Styles and Sami Zayn in a triple threat ladder match
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax defend against Ruby Riott & Liv Morgan
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro defend against The Lucha House Party
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defend against Andrade & Angel Garza

Raw Tag Team title match set for WWE SummerSlam

The team of Andrade and Angel Garza will be facing Raw Tag Team champions The Street Profits at SummerSlam.

The duo defeated Cedric Alexander & Ricochet and The Viking Raiders in a triple threat tag team match where the winners would become number one contenders for the titles. The finish came when Ivar did a dive that took out most of the competitors in the match. Garza, however, avoided the dive and pinned Alexander with the wing clipper.

After the match, Andrade & Garza confronted The Street Profits, who were at ringside doing commentary. After some back and forth, the two jumped Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford, bolting before either could retaliate.

This is not the first time the two teams have faced one another. They had a match on the July 20 edition of Raw. where The Street Profits defeated Andrade and Garza.

SummerSlam is scheduled to take place on August 23. A location has not been announced.

Randy Orton segment, tag match for next title shot set for WWE Raw

The build to the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam may begin on Monday’s episode of Raw.

WWE announced tonight that Randy Orton will kick off Monday’s Raw by “announcing his next target.” Orton defeated Big Show in an unsanctioned match in the main event of Raw this past Monday.

Dave Meltzer has reported that Drew McIntyre defending his WWE Championship against Orton is scheduled for SummerSlam. The pay-per-view is taking place on Sunday, August 23.

In a rematch from Extreme Rules, McIntyre is facing Dolph Ziggler in a non-title match on Monday’s Raw. McIntyre will pick the stipulation for the match this time.

WWE has also announced that Ricochet & Cedric Alexander, The Viking Raiders, and Andrade & Angel Garza will face off in a number one contender’s triple threat tag match on Monday’s Raw. The winning team will challenge The Street Profits for the Raw Tag Team titles at SummerSlam.

The Street Profits defeated Andrade & Garza in a non-title match on Raw this week. Later in the episode, Andrade & Garza attacked Big Show during his unsanctioned match against Orton. The Viking Raiders then came out to make the save and brawled with Andrade & Garza.

Ricochet & Alexander teamed with the returning Mustafa Ali to defeat MVP, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin in a six-man tag match on this week’s Raw.

Also set for Monday’s Raw is Asuka vs. Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s Championship. The title can change hands via pinfall, submission, countout, disqualification, or if anyone interferes.

‘Night of grudge matches’ announced for WWE Raw

WWE is promoting that Monday’s Raw will feature a “night of grudge matches.”

That was hyped during a commercial that aired during tonight’s episode of SmackDown. In addition to the already announced Women’s Tag Team title match with Sasha Banks & Bayley defending against Asuka & Kairi Sane, Monday’s Raw will feature Randy Orton vs. R-Truth, Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens, and The Viking Raiders vs. Andrade & Angel Garza in an elimination tag team match.

Orton, Andrade & Garza defeated Big Show & The Viking Raiders on Raw this past Monday. There was also a backstage segment on Monday’s show where 24/7 Champion R-Truth ran into Orton as he was trying to avoid Akira Tozawa. Truth questioned if Flair was Tozawa in disguise. Truth ran off as Tozawa and his ninjas approached. Orton asked if they were looking for Truth and then pointed them in the wrong direction.

There’s recently been dissension between Andrade & Garza. Their feud with The Viking Raiders began when The Viking Raiders saved The Street Profits from an attack by Andrade & Garza last month.

Rollins vs. Owens is a rematch from WrestleMania 36. Owens defeated Rollins in that match. On this week’s Raw, Owens teamed up with Rey Mysterio and defeated Rollins & Murphy. The match decided whether Mysterio or Rollins would pick the stipulation for their match at Extreme Rules. Mysterio pinned Murphy and then revealed that he’ll face Rollins in an eye for an eye match at the pay-per-view.

Monday’s Raw is the brand’s go-home show for Extreme Rules.

Two tag matches set for WWE Raw, Rey Mysterio returning to action

WWE has announced a pair of tag team matches that will air on tonight’s episode of Raw.

Rey Mysterio is teaming up with Aleister Black against Seth Rollins & Murphy on tonight’s Raw. Big Show & The Viking Raiders vs. Randy Orton, Andrade & Angel Garza is also set for the show.

This will be the first time Mysterio has wrestled since the angle where his eye was attacked by Rollins in May.

Dave Meltzer has reported that — after his deal expired — Mysterio is currently working without a WWE contract. Meltzer noted that there was a plan for Mysterio to face Rollins in an “eye for an eye” match at Extreme Rules, though that has yet to be announced.

WWE is teasing that Dolph Ziggler may choose the stipulation for his WWE Championship match against Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules on tonight’s Raw. The pay-per-view is taking place on Sunday, July 19.

Raw Women’s Champion Asuka vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley in a non-title champion vs. champion match will also take place on tonight’s Raw.
