Hangman Page vs. Joey Janela announced for All In

The card for All In now has three confirmed matches.

At the end of today’s episode of Being the Elite, it was announced that Hangman Page will be facing Joey Janela (w/ Penelope Ford) at the September 1 show in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Their match joins Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll and Cody Rhodes challenging for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship on the card.

Page’s story on Being the Elite has been that he’s responsible for the “murder” of Joey Ryan’s character. Page facing Janela was announced after he snapped when Juice Robinson asked him about the “Joey thing” from last week’s episode, referring to Janela’s appearance.

The storyline of Flip Gordon trying to get booked on All In also continued on this week’s Being the Elite. After Gordon lost his NWA title match against Nick Aldis at ROH Honor for All last Friday and seemingly earned Cody’s respect, Cody teased booking Gordon for the show but gave him a $25 Cracker Barrel gift card instead.

Today’s Being the Elite is available to watch below:

Flip Gordon loses NWA title match at ROH Honor for All

While there were some developments, the storyline of Flip Gordon trying to get booked for All In wasn’t settled at ROH Honor for All.

Gordon unsuccessfully challenged for Nick Aldis’ NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at Friday night’s show in Nashville, Tennessee. But the story of the match was Gordon seemingly earning Cody Rhodes’ respect.

There was an angle where the match was restarted at one point. Aldis got the pin after hitting a piledriver and elbow drop, but Gordon’s foot was on the rope. Cody was on commentary and joined the referees who were discussing the finish, pointing out that the pin shouldn’t have been counted. Gordon got a near fall with the Star Spangled Stunner but ended up passing out in a cloverleaf.

Both Aldis and Cody showed respect to Gordon after the match. Cody (who wasn’t mic’d) spoke to Gordon in the ring and raised his hand. Bully Ray then attacked Gordon after Cody left, continuing the feud they’ve been having in ROH.

Cody is set to challenge for the NWA title at All In on September 1 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The only other match that’s been announced at this point is Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll.

Broadcasting team announced for All In

All In has their broadcasting team set for the upcoming September event.

Their Twitter account today revealed that their broadcasting team will comprise of  Impact backstage interviewer Alicia Atout, Impact and New Japan color commentator Don Callis, former WWE backstage interviewer and announcer Sean Mooney,  ROH announcer Ian Riccaboni, PWG announcer Excalibur, ROH ring announcer Bobby Cruise and former WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts. It wasn’t announced what roles each would have on the broadcast, though the Young Bucks did ask Don Callis to do announcing when they made him part of All In last month during a New Japan’s Dominion event.

Cody Rhodes talked to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio this past weekend about distribution methods for All In. Rhodes mentioned that there would be both internet streaming and pay-per-view options. Despite that, no specific details have been announced as of this writing.

All In will take place on September 1 at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, which is 25 miles from Chicago.

Flip Gordon to challenge for NWA title at ROH Honor for All

The storyline of Flip Gordon trying to get booked for All In will continue at Ring of Honor’s show in Nashville, Tennessee later this month.

At the end of a video that was uploaded by the NWA today, it was revealed that NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis’ next title defense will be against Gordon at “Honor for All” on July 20. The show is taking place at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville and will air live on HonorClub.

The storyline is that Cody Rhodes won’t book Gordon for All In, and Gordon has fallen short in every opportunity he’s been given to be added to the show. But whoever is NWA Champion on September 1 will defend the title against Cody at All in.

ROH Television Champion Punishment Martinez defending against Scorpio Sky, Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai vs. Karen Q in a non-title match, ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes vs. The Young Bucks vs. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian in a non-title match, Marty Scurll vs. Matt Taven, Cody vs. TK O’Ryan, and Kenny King vs. Shane Taylor vs. Chris Sabin vs. Jonathan Gresham are also set for Honor for All.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll set for All In

Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks have started to reveal the card for All In.

It was announced today that former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada would be facing Marty Scurll at the September 1 show at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This will be the first time they’ve ever wrestled each other in a singles match.

The only other match that’s been confirmed for All In as of now is Cody challenging for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, which is currently held by Nick Aldis.

In the second episode of “All Us,” a YouTube series chronicling the lead-up to the event, Cody said they planned to start rolling out matches week by week but didn’t expect that they would ever reveal the full card before the event.

Details on when and where All In will air have yet to be announced, but Cody and Matt & Nick Jackson noted last month that they’ve officially decided in favor of licensing production and that it will be broadcast in some capacity. Don Callis will be one of the commentators for the show.

Daniels, Kazarian & Scorpio Sky announced for All In

Though the show is now under two months away, wrestlers still continue to be announced for All In.

Three more regulars of the Being the Elite cast were confirmed for the event today as SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky) were added. Their angle on Being the Elite recently has been Daniels trying to frame “Arrow” star Stephen Amell for the storyline “murder” of Joey Ryan’s character. On the most recent episode, Amell was cleared due to insufficient evidence and having an alibi.

A wrestler was also removed from the All In card this week, with Cody Rhodes confirming that Deonna Purrazzo won’t be able to appear on the show. She’s expected to report to NXT soon.

A match for All in will be announced later today, making it the first one to be revealed for the event since the announcement of Cody challenging for the NWA title. Cody has said they’ll likely be rolling out matches week by week, but he doesn’t think they’ll ever release the full card prior to the show. It’s taking place at the Sears Centre Arena in the Chicago area on September 1.

Deonna Purrazzo off All In card

Deonna Purrazzo will no longer compete at the upcoming All In event in Chicago on September 1st.

Cody Rhodes first broke the news yesterday on Twitter when someone asked about a potential match.

“Deonna is unable to do All In” he replied. “We love her. She’s phenomenal. She’s kicking ass/breaking arms no matter where you see her.”

Purazzo herself later confirmed on Twitter today that she wouldn’t be able to attend.

“It’s been incredible to see first hand what @MattJackson13, @NickJacksonYB, & @CodyRhodes envision for pro wrestling” she said. “I am so sad I won’t be wrestling at #AllIn but my heart will be there September 1st.”

Purrazzo, 23, is a standout independent wrestler trained by Rip Rogers and Damian Adams. She’s appeared both on WWE television and NXT as an enhancement talent. Squared Circle Sirens reported back in May that she has reportedly signed a WWE developmental deal, though that has yet to be confirmed.

Kota Ibushi officially confirmed for All In

Another member of the Being the Elite cast has been confirmed for All In.

Kota Ibushi was officially added to the lineup for the show today. At the end of Dominion last Saturday, he stood united with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks as the Golden Elite after Omega defeated Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

With the show still two and a half months away, Cody Rhodes challenging for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship is the only match that’s been announced for All In. That title is currently held by Nick Aldis.

If Cody wins the ROH World Championship at Best in the World later this month, it will be a title vs. title match at All In.

All In will take place at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on September 1st. Broadcast plans haven’t been confirmed, but Don Callis will be doing commentary for the show.

Jericho explains absence from NJPW US shows, All In

Chris Jericho has explained why he won’t be wrestling for NJPW shows in the United States or at All In.

In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Jericho said he rejected working for New Japan shows in the United States and the upcoming All In event for two reasons, with the first being monetary.

“You should see how many indy promoters contact me” he said. “This is a calculated big money proposition. I’m not going anywhere else unless you want to pay six f****** figures. This is where I’m at. This is McGregor/Mayweather type s*** for me.”

He also mentioned that he felt like it would be a slap in the face to Vince McMahon if he were to do a show in the United States.

“I’m doing all of these different things and enjoying the freedom but still rooted in the respect for Vince McMahon and the WWE” he said. “And [working shows in the US] goes too far over that line right now.”

On Monday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Jericho wouldn’t be wrestling for NJPW for a long time, despite winning the IWGP Intercontinental title from Tetsuya Naito at Dominion this past Saturday. Meltzer mentioned that Jericho’s absence would effectively put the championship “on ice”.

Don Callis, Madison Rayne & MJF announced for All In

Three more talents have been confirmed for All In, and unfortunately for Flip Gordon, he’s still not booked.

MJF and Madison Rayne secured their spots at a WrestlePro event this past Friday. They teamed up to take on Flip Gordon and Brandi Rhodes. As a continuation of a story that has been developing on Being the Elite, the stipulation to this match was that the winners of the match would advance to All In, with Rhodes assuring Gordon that everything would go their way.

The finish of the match had Rhodes low blowing MJF as he was about to strike her with a steel chair. The referee disqualified Gordon and Rhodes, therefore denying Gordon another shot at being booked for All In.

Meanwhile, the Young Bucks officially welcomed Don Callis to All In after they won the IWGP tag team titles at Dominion this morning. They walked over to Callis after the match and said he was All In, which indicates at some point this show will either be streaming or on video on demand. Calls happily accepted the invitation.

All In will take place September 1 at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Nick Aldis set for ROH Honor United: Edinburgh

Ahead of a possible title defense against Cody Rhodes at All In, Nick Aldis will be facing The Young Bucks on ROH’s Honor United tour.

ROH has announced that Aldis, the current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, will be in action at Honor United: Edinburgh on May 24th. The storyline for the match is related to Aldis appearing at All In, with him making it one of the stipulations of him agreeing to defend the title against Cody. Aldis will be teaming with a “partner of ROH’s choosing.”

Billy Corgan represented the NWA at Sunday’s All In press conference, where it was announced that Cody would be challenging whoever is NWA Champion on September 1st.

This will be Aldis’ in-ring debut for ROH, though he was shown in the crowd during Dalton Castle vs. Marty Scurll at Supercard of Honor XII last month.

The show in Edinburgh, Scotland is the first stop on the Honor United tour. It will continue in London, England on May 26th and Doncaster, England on the 27th. An ROH World Championship match is set for London, with Castle defending his title against EVIL.

May 21, 2018 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: USA potentially paying big money for Raw, more

The Hollywood Reporter’s Matthew Belloni reported on 5/16 that NBC Universal had reached a deal to retain Raw when the current contract expires in October of 2019.

Belloni claimed that WWE was asking for triple its current $160 million price tag for Raw and Smackdown and they were agreeing to the price for Raw, but would let Smackdown go.

If that is accurate, that would mean a number in the range of a $240 million price tag for Raw alone. That would be far beyond what most analysts were expecting, which was $240 million to $300 million combined for the U.S. rights to both Raw and Smackdown. If Raw is really getting a number at that level, it would mean the combined number for both shows would end up closer to $400 million, a figure USA Network wasn’t interested in spending.

Figure Four Weekly: All In sells out within 30 minutes

For all of the hype and expectations ahead of tickets going on sale, Sunday was going to be when the unknown became known for Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks.

And with tickets for their Labor Day weekend All In show selling out in 29 minutes and 36 seconds, the Bullet Club’s success could be a landmark moment for professional wrestling. What began as Cody taking a Dave Meltzer tweet as a bet, where Meltzer responded to someone last May and tweeted that he didn’t think ROH could sell out a 10,000-plus seat building anytime soon, has now become the first show in the United States to do so in almost 20 years.

Even as the event grew from the initial tweet, becoming a self-financed mission for Cody and Matt & Nick Jackson, there was no way of knowing for sure how Sunday was going to go.

All In tickets sell out almost immediately after going on sale

Tickets for the Young Bucks & Cody’s All In show on September 1st at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, sold out immediately.

With all seats open the crowd would legitimately just top 10,000, which would be the first time in United States history where something like that happened for a true independent promotion show, and the first time in 19 years anyone but WWE sold that many tickets to a show in the U.S. I believe Jacques Rougeau has done that a few times for shows in Montreal with his own promotion.

We had checked 45 minutes after tickets were put on sale to see what was available and nothing was. One of the organizers said it looked like it sold out in 30 minutes.

This is also with a lot of problems as we’ve been inundated with complaints from people who tried to order tickets right away and had all kinds of problems because of the volume of orders in such a short period of time, similar to what happened with the New Japan show in Long Beach.

The sellout was with almost nothing announced on the show but several major names, the biggest being The Young Bucks and Cody, who organized and financed the show, along with Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, and Rey Mysterio Jr.

Cody will challenge for the NWA World Heavyweight title in one of the key matches on the card. Billy Corgan was at the press conference today noting the title would be at sake and Cody said he would challenge. At this point that would be Nick Aldis as champion.

Rey Mysterio, NWA title match announced for All In

Ahead of tickets going on sale, a couple of announcements for All In were made at this afternoon’s press conference in Chicago.

The press conference closed with the news that Rey Mysterio will be wrestling on the show. It was also revealed that the National Wrestling Alliance will have some involvement with All In, with Cody Rhodes set to challenge for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Nick Aldis currently holds the title, and Cody’s father Dusty was a three-time NWA Champion.

Billy Corgan of the NWA appeared at today’s event, and Cody, Tessa Blanchard, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, and The Young Bucks also spoke. Scurll and Page did a bit where Flip Gordon was disguised as a reporter and asked about Gordon being booked for All In. After it was revealed to be him, Gordon superkicked Scurll before being put through a table by Page.

All In will be held at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on September 1st. Tickets go on sale today at 4 p.m. Eastern time.

Video of the press conference is available to watch below (starting at about 25:25):
