AEW Dark Stocking Stuffer live results: Death Riders in trios action

For the first time since April 2023, AEW Dark returns for one night only.

Taped this past Saturday in Cardiff, Wales, tonight’s YouTube-only show features three matches — two of which include the Death Riders.

Former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley teams with Wheeler Yuta and PAC against the Grizzled Young Veterans & wrestler/coach Nathan Cruz.

Another trios bout will see Orange Cassidy team with fellow Continental Classic wrestlers Mascara Dorada and Roderick Strong against Mark Andrews, Kid Lykos 1 and Kid Lykos 2.

The show is rounded out by Marina Shafir vs. Isla Dawn.

Our coverage kicks off at 7 pm Eastern.

**********

AEW Dark: Stocking Stuffer is on the air, as Excalibur welcomes us with Taz, who we’re told gassed up the jet to come to Cardiff to do this show. If only Ruby Soho was wrestling on this card and we could get a proper return of Remix Jones and Taz serenading us all.

Marina Shafir vs. Isla Dawn

(I sure have missed Excalibur & Taz’s shenanigans on Dark. Despite this only being a 3-match show tonight, you can tell this Cardiff crowd is going to be a lot of fun with the chants. Dawn had a lot of support and put of a valiant fight, but Shafir was simply too much to handle.)

During Shafir’s entrance, Excalibur informed us they were ducking under the desk, thus why we couldn’t see them (as they’re in no way recording from studio), as Taz tells us he’s also taking off his socks in solidarity of Shafir and channeling his Tazmaniac days. Cardiff crowd sings for Dawn at the opening bell, while a test of strength sees Shafir get multiple sweeps before working a headlock. Dawn tries a drop down, but Shafir rolled out into a punt kick to the back. Dawn battled back with kicks, which Shafir no sold, daring Dawn to bring it, which she did, with a Fisherman’s Suplex.

Tiger Feint Head Scissors drove Dawn’s head into the apron, as after the fight briefly went outside, we return inside with Shafir locking in a Bow and Arrow. Dawn spun out into a low dropkick and corner knee, but Shafir avoided a suplex into a throw. Dawn fired off a roundhouse kick and backdrop suplex for a near fall. Dawn got a jawbreaker, but Shafir grabbed wrist control, hit a lariat and pulled Dawn into Mother’s Milk for the quick submission.

Match Result: Marina Shafir submitted Isla Dawn

Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong & Mascara Dorada vs. Mark Andrews, Kid Lykos I & Kid Lykos II

(I know Strong doesn’t want to be part of The Conglomeration and only teams with them because of Kyle O’Reilly, but O’Reilly is hurt, so this partnership is more confusing than usual. Regardless, whether he likes Cassidy or not, they do team pretty well, as I wish this match went longer, as the brief time we saw Dorada & Andrews in there with one another was a highlight.)

Taz put over how much he enjoys The Conglomeration’s theme song, but doesn’t say which show it reminds him of, as he doesn’t want to pay royalties. Quick start by Andrews & Dorada, with the crowd loudly behind Andrews, who caught a corkscrew kick, until Dorada took down both Lykos with an arm drag to the floor. They dodged a dive, allowing Andrews to hit a rolling double stomp and cracked both Strong & Cassidy on the apron. Cassidy joined the match, but was immediately triple teamed, leaving the UK Trio standing tall before hitting triple dives.

Back inside, Dorada was worked over until floating over Lykos I into a Code Red for the double down. Cassidy made the lukewarm tag, hands in pockets and hitting a huge monkey flip before popping Lykos II & Andrews with a double dropkick. Lykos I tried to attack, but suffered a Stundog Millionaire for his efforts. Cassidy tagged in a reluctant Strong, who seemed to constantly try to strike Cassidy, who’d always dodge and Strong would hit his opponents. Cassidy sent a diving Lykos II into Strong’s Death By Roderick, while Cassidy hit an Orange Punch, Dorada hit a dive on Andrews & Lykos I. Strong capped it off with an End of Heartache on Lykos II to win it.

Match Result: Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong & Mascara Dorada defeated Mark Andrews, Kid Lykos I & Kid Lykos II when Strong pinned Lykos II

Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta & PAC w/Daniel Garcia & Marina Shafir) vs. Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) & Nathan Cruz

(Action packed main event, with G.Y.V. & Cruz getting in plenty of offense, but once the Death Riders crew got in control, they weren’t giving that up. While PAC was cheered by the Cardiff crowd, they were more than happy to boo Yuta. Commentary really put over how Moxley’s early losses in the C2 have put him in a tough spot going forward and really needs to win out if he wants a chance of making the semi-finals.)

Death Riders attack before the bell, as Gibson & Cruz were sent crashing into the barricade and ring steps, while Yuta targeted Drake to start the match. Flying cross body and forearms put Drake in control, as he made fast tags with his G.Y.V. partner until PAC tagged in and he suffered the same fate. Yuta was popped on the apron, resulting in Moxley to check on him, while PAC was isolated with fast tags by Cruz & G.Y.V. Moxley & Yuta broke a pin attempt, as the match broke down. Drake & Gibson hit dueling dives on Moxley & Yuta, while Cruz tried a fireman’s carry-on PAC, who raked the eyes and clobbered Cruz with a big boot. Moxley flew in with a baseball slide on Drake, as Yuta threw Gibson into the barricade, as it’s Cruz now who’s worked over.

Moxley tags in officially for the first time and hits clubbing blows before Yuta tags in with a guillotine knee drop for two. The crowd is letting Yuta really hear it, as Cruz is able to get an enzugiri and hot tag to Gibson. PAC was mowed down with a lariat, as Gibson drove him repeatedly face first into the corner. Yuta tried to help, but was launched with an overhead suplex. Drake tagged in, as he & Gibson hit a combo dropkick/Michinoku Driver combo for two. PAC fought free from a Doomsday Device, crotched Drake, allowing Moxley to tag in and hit Gibson with a flash Cutter.

Moxley mocks the crowd before firing off kicks, only waking Gibson up, as he ran through Moxley with a lariat and lungblower. Cruz tagged in and it’s a triple team on Moxley, with Cruz hitting a sit-out slam on Moxley for a near fall. PAC & Yuta made the save, as both got heads of steam, Yuta hit a flip dive on G.Y.V. while Moxley placed Cruz in position for PAC to take his head off with a lariat. Brutalizer quickly followed, as PAC got the submission. Moxley is bleeding from the mouth, as Excalibur didn’t know how, but Taz said it’s because he wrestled a match, it’s what Moxley does.

Match Result: Death Riders defeated Grizzled Young Veterans & Nathan Cruz when PAC submitted Cruz

I have no idea if or when Dark will return, but I very much enjoyed this little bit of nostalgia, hearing Excalibur & Taz riff like the old days. Even though we didn’t hear Taz sing, nor did we get any Seinfeld tangents like I loved, it was still a fun 30-minute show. I’m glad Tony Khan decided to bring it back, even for one night only.

AEW Dark results: Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Blake Christian

This week’s AEW Dark was taped last month at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Ari Daivari (w/ Slim J & Parker Boudreaux) defeated Fuego Del Sol

Del Sol controlled wrist of Daivari early on before locking in a headscissors that kept him grounded for a few moments. Del Sol attempted to turn Daivari’s positioning into a big move, but would ultimately fail as Daivari took control.

Daivari worked down Sol with a few headlocks before Slim J got involved which further gave the advantage to his Trust Busters partner. Daivari responded by locking in a headlock on Sol that took him to the mat, but when referee Aubrey Edwards checked on him, Sol was still conscious.

The crowd was fully behind Del Sol at this point as he attempted a tornado DDT, but it didn’t land. Instead, Sol drove both of his feet into Daivari with a double stomp before hanging him upside down on the turnbuckle and hitting a coast to coast. The combination of these moves resulted in a near fall.

The match spilled outside for a moment here, causing the remaining Trust Busters to get involved. This allowed Daivari to throw Del Sol into the ring post before sliding him into the ring and hitting a frog splash for the win.

After the bout, Daivari bragged about his investments and how they keep going up.

Willow Nightingale defeated Robyn Renegade (w/ Charlette Renegade)

Nightingale dropped Renegade with a high boot, followed up by a crossbody. Renegade regained her composure and nailed Nightingale with a backbreaker for a near fall. The two traded moves back and forth before Robyn got a chance to roll out of the ring, which prompted Charlette to replace her with a bit of twin magic.

The Renegades’ plot wouldn’t work, thought, as Nightingale nailed Charlette with a doctor bomb shortly after for the victory.

Brock Anderson (w/ Arn Anderson) defeated Serpentico

Anderson dominated Serpentico throughout the entire bout, treating him like a ragdoll. This went on until Serpentico was able to get in a few jabs to the head, followed by a senton. Serpentico motioned to mock Arn Anderson with a fake shotgun motion, which made Brock even more angry.

The match really started to drag at this point with Anderson going through his third wave of momentum in the match. Shortly after hitting a DDT, Anderson hit a spinebuster for the win.

Abadon defeated Mafiosa

Abadon hit a middle rope cutter as the match began. This was followed up with a kick to the head, which was preceded by a brutal senton. Moments later, Abadon hit a Black Delilah for the win.

Angelico defeated Baliyan Akki

Akki showed off some impressive grappling skills early on before delivering a few strikes that looked pretty good. These wouldn’t really affect Angelico though as he would lock in the octopus Lock for the submission victory.

Emi Sakura defeated Renee Michelle

Sakura did not play with her food here as she bounced Michelle right off the ropes when the bell rang before throwing her across the ring by her hair. Michelle made a recovery eventually and hit an impressive missile dropkick that resulted in a near fall.

Sakura wouldn’t let this phase her as she motioned for her own second rope splash, followed by an underhook facebuster for the win.

Josh Woods defeated Cobra

Woods outclassed Cobra in a near embarrassing way here, running circles around him in both a physical and mental way. This didn’t last long as Woods would lock in a variation of an armbar to score the submission victory.

Skye Blue defeated Charlette Renegade (w/ Robyn Renegade)

Blue didn’t take Renegade’s taunting lightly early on, planting her with a series of arm drags. Renegade responded by slamming Blue’s head into the mat and then hitting her with a great flatliner.

Blue fought back with passion as the crowd got behind her. After nailing Renegade with her signature superkick, Blue attempted a pinning maneuver for a near fall. This would lead to Charlette rolling out of the ring, which prompted Robyn to try and make the switch. The referee noticed and booted Robyn out of the arena. Blue took advantage, hitting Charlette with a half and half suplex for the win.

Bear Country defeated Victor Iniestra & Alex Rico

Bronson got double teamed early on, which was surprising because it actually worked out in favor of Bear Country as it got the momentum for a massive Bear Boulder hot tag. When he came in, he hit both Rico and Iniestra with a pair of slide slams before positioning them in the corner for a double cannonball which scored Bear Country the victory.

Kayla Rossi (w/ Diamond Sheik) defeated Avery Breaux

Rossi overpowered the fast-paced nature of Breaux when the bell rang. Rossi had a purpose of outpowering Breaux, trapping her on the middle rope with a knee to the back of the head. Rossi would go on to pin Breaux after hitting a powerslam and a brainbuster in her first-ever match.

Cezar Bononi (w/ Ryan Nemeth & Peter Avalon) defeated Marcus Kross

Kross tried to use his speed to avoid Bononi early on, but the strategy didn’t pay off as Bononi tossed him around the ring about seven different times. Kross would end up getting in some offense here and there, but Bononi caught one of his springboard moves and turned it into a gutwrench suplex for the win.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Blake Christian

Hobbs tried to charge Christian in the corner, but “All Heart” was able to avoid him on more than one occasion. Christian hit the ropes in an attempt to gain steam, but Hobbs ran him over with a clothesline. The match went to the floor moments after and Hobbs capitalized by tossing Christian into the ring post on multiple occasions.

After the match made it back in the ring, Christian ate a massive spinebuster, which scored Hobbs the win.

AEW Dark results: Blake Christian vs. Rohit Raju

This week’s 14-match AEW Dark lineup from Universal Studios saw the AEW debut of Blake Christian against former Impact X-Division Champion Rohit Raju.

Jay Lethal defeated JD Drake (w/ The Wingmen)

This opener should have been better as both competitors seemed to have a lack of fire.

Drake gained an early advantage with the assistance that The Wingmen provided with their outside interference. With the momentum, Drake delivered a powerful dropdown headbutt before transitioning to a headlock. Lethal escaped the hold and begin to gain the crowd’s support, allowing him to hit a Lethal Injection for the pin and win.

The Butcher & The Blade defeated The Infantry (Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo)

Butcher isolated Bravo as the match began. Dean got a hot tag, but it would prove to be ineffective as the Blade was able to score the victory shortly after hitting Full Death.

Anthony Ogogo defeated Ray Jaz

Ogogo delivered a standing suplex and taunted the crowd. Jaz fought back with some light strikes that did virtually no damage. Ogogo delivered his signature knockout punch moments later, giving him the victory.

Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Kaci Lennox

Similar to last night’s Dark: Elevation, Guerrero distracted Lennox which allowed Rose to blindside her from behind. A Beast Bomb ended up being the fate of Lennox, giving Rose another win.

Blake Christian defeated Rohit Raju

This was a fun sprint match despite only lasting around three minutes.

Raju was aggressive in his first approach to Christian, delivering a foot stomp to his chest. Christian retaliated with a split-legged moonsault for a near fall. Raju responded with a running flatliner which only motivated Christian to get back up and hit a springboard 450 splash for the win.

The Acclaimed defeated The Skulk (Liam Grey & Adrian Alanis)

Max Caster delivered a great running elbow to Alanis as the bout started. Anthony Bowens tagged in and brought Grey into the match. After a few more moves, Caster delivered the Mic Drop elbow drop to Grey for the victory,

AQA defeated Valentina Rossi

Rossi didn’t take AQA lightly as she delivered a few knees to her stomach. Rossi wouldn’t get far as AQA planted her on the mat with a rolling neckbreaker which scored herself the win.

Tony Nese defeated Karam

Nese focused on taking Karam to the mat and working on the legs. After positioning Karam on the bottom turnbuckle, Nese delivered a running leg strike for the victory.

Abadon defeated Angelica Risk

Abadon toyed around with Risk for a moment before putting her away with her signature DDT.

Gunn Club (Austin & Colten Gunn) defeated Brick City Boyz

There was no tag team action here; it was practically a thirty second tornado tag match. Colten pinned Cruz after a Colt 45 in a very quick manner.

Mercedes Martinez defeated Gemma Jewels

Martinez delivered some hard chops as she gained steam from the crowd. After a series of running dropkicks in the corner, Martinez locked in a dragon sleeper on Jewels who tapped rather quickly.

Varsity Blonds (w/ Julia Hart) defeated Sotheara Chhun and Tony Vincita

Griff Garrison and Chhun started out. Garrison planted Chhun with a side slam while Brian Pillman came in off a tag. Pillman faced a double team from Chhun and Vincita for a few moments before he tagged back out to Garrison, who delivered multiple release overhead belly-to-belly suplexes. Pillman later successfully pinned Vincita with a brainbuster.

Marina Shafir defeated Leila Grey

Shafir struggled with Grey for a moment, but would tap her out shortly after with a cradle headlock-type submission that looked pretty neat.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Fuego Del Sol

Hobbs pummeled Sol into the mat and was in complete control early on. When the match spilled to the outside, Sol had a glimmer of hope when he shoved Hobbs into the ring post and followed it up with a tornado DDT for a near fall. After kicking out, Hobbs regained his footing and put Sol in the Torture Rack for the victory to finish out this week’s show.

AEW Dark results: Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler vs. Dark Order

This week’s matches were taped at the most recent Universal Studios tapings in Orlando, Florida.

The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler defeated Dark Order (Evil Uno, Colt Cabana and Alan “5” Angels)

This opener was about as good as it got for the entire duration of the show.

Tags frequented early on with both Nick and Matt Jackson struggling to gain momentum as Uno and Cabana delivered a plethora of moves. This led to Cutler getting into the match and he immediately had his jacket ripped open, leading to a series of chops from Uno.

The Bucks quickly got tired of Cutler being beat down and made the save. A series of superkicks and reversals followed that saw all six competitors have at least a spot or two. Dark Order looked to be in firm control of the match when Angels came off the top for a splash on Cutler, but the Bucks were in the right spot at the right time and delivered a BTE trigger on “5”. Cutler was then thrown on top of Angels by The Bucks for the winning pinfall.

Ruby Soho defeated Ashley D’Amboise

Soho was rocked by a strike from D’Amboise early on, but quickly regained her composure and went on to nail her signature No Future kick for the win.

Josh Woods defeated AC Adams

The last Ring of Honor Pure Champion sent Adams flying about ten feet back with a pump kick before nailing him with his signature float over german suplex for the victory.

Woods cut a promo afterwards expressing his happiness about Tony Khan purchasing ROH.

Ricky Starks defeated Darian Bengston

Starks came off the middle turnbuckle with an axe handle to start the bout. After beating Bengston around the ring with various strikes, the FTW Champion finished the match after hitting his spear-twisting slam combination.

Diamante defeated Session Moth Martina

Martina got off to a good start, but her momentum came to a screeching halt when Diamante delivered a great russian leg sweep. Shortly after, Diamante delivered a rough-looking Code Red for the win.

Dark Order (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) (w/-1) defeated Chaos Project

Serpentico and Silver started out and Silver struggled to get on task as Serpentico kept him grounded. The match changed course when Reynolds entered off the hot tag.

Silver and Reynolds teamed up and delivered a series of double team maneuvers that got them a quick pinfall victory, their second in consecutive nights over Chaos Project.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Marina Tucker

Hirsch delivered a standing suplex to Tucker as the bell rang. After delivering a knee strike, Hirsch quickly tapped out Tucker with an armbar.

Top Flight defeated Invictus Khash and Ariya Daivari

Khash worked over Darius Martin’s neck early on, isolating him from his brother, Dante. Daivari got his turn and took the match to the outside, allowing his team to gain an advantage.

When Dante got the hot tag, it spelled the end for Khash and Daivari. The brothers hit a series of both high-flying and rapid fire moves before Darius pinned Khash with a bridging german suplex for the victory,

10 defeated Aaron Solo (w/ QT Marshall)

Solo heckled the crowd for being behind 10, which would only create a distraction that 10 took advantage of. 10 dominated the majority of the match until QT Marshall was kicked out of the building for nearly interfering in the bout. While the referee was distracted, Nick Comoroto came out of nowhere and speared 10 which resulted in a Solo near fall.

10 picked up the pieces quickly after and tapped out Solo with the full nelson submission.

Emi Sakura defeated Shalonce Royal

After playing to the crowd for a short amount of time, Sakura defeated Royal quickly with a twisting Vader Bomb.

Lance Archer defeated Sage Scott

Archer threw Scott into the ring during his entrance. After hitting a few clotheslines and shoulder tackles, Archer finished the match with a Blackout.

Daniel Garcia and 2point0 defeated Luke Sampson, Mike Reed and Shayne Stetson

This was all Garcia and 2point0 as the opposing team never even hit another strike. The bout lasted about 45 seconds until Garcia tapped out Sampson with a sharpshooter.

Frankie Kazarian defeated Jora Johl

Johl showed some resilience against Kazarian early on as he absorbed the majority of Kazarian’s offense. This only motivated the “Heavy Metal Rebel” to hit harder as the match went on. Johl had his moments in the match, including a very good big boot spot. He would eventually fall to Kazarian’s crossface chicken wing submission.

AEW Dark results: Top Flight vs. The Wingmen

Anna Jay (w/ -1) defeated Marina Tucker

Jay ran through the motions early on, eventually nailing Tucker with a no-look superkick after dropping her to her knees. Tucker tried to execute some offense, but failed and tapped to the Queenslayer shortly after.

Scorpio Sky defeated Sonny Kiss

Kiss overwhelmed Sky with a flurry of fast-motion offense when the bell rang, capped off with a standing knee moonsault from “The Concrete Rose.”

Sky regained his focus after recovering, hitting a trifecta of backbreakers on Kiss. Sky followed that up with a high boot that Kiss sold very well. Shortly after, Kiss fell victim to Sky’s signature TKO.

Red Velvet defeated Kiera Hogan

Hogan cracked Velvet with a basement dropkick to literally kick off the match. Hogan would try to string together more offense but Velvet caught her with the Final Slice for a quick three count.

Top Flight defeated The Wingmen (Peter Avalon & Ryan Nemeth)

Darius Martin and Avalon started things out. Avalon got picked on as the two Martin brothers exchanged tags and high flying maneuvers. Nemeth would eventually halt the momentum after throwing Dante Martin into the ringside steps.

Nemeth showboated and worked Dante down with multiple strikes on the ground. Avalon would eventually come in to assist, but cost the team in terms of momentum as Dante sent both Wingmen crashing into one another.

Darius came in off the hot tag and bulldozed both Avalon and Nemeth while Dante recovered on the outside. When he was ready to go, Dante tagged in and hit the Nosedive springboard moonsault on Nemeth for the win.

Kris Statlander defeated Kelsey Raegan

Raegan slapped Statlander in the face which led to Statlander beginning a sequence of moves that concluded with the Big Bang Theory and a pinfall victory for the “Galaxy’s Greatest Alien.”

Ruby Soho & AQA defeated Diamante & Emi Sakura

Diamante and AQA started, but the two didn’t last long before Soho and Sakura came in. Sakura confused her opponents and tied them up together, allowing Diamante to dropkick them.

AQA was worked on by Sakura before Soho got the hot tag and delivered a flurry of kicks. Soho attempted a pin after a russian leg sweep, but was unsuccessful. When Sakura tagged out to Diamante, AQA came back in and hit a series of clotheslines. Shortly after, AQA hit her signature shooting star press for the victory.

The Butcher & The Blade defeated Dark Order (Alan Angels & Colt Cabana)

Angels tried to take out The Butcher at ringside, but was caught and swung head first into the steel steps. This would lead to Butcher and Blade dominating the first portion of the match, specifically working on Angels.

Cabana eventually found his way in the match and took down Butcher with a middle rope moonsault. Cabana’s efforts wouldn’t be enough for his team to get back into things as Angels fell victim a Butcher powerslam just a few moments later that gave them the win.

Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Skye Blue

Rose lifted up Blue for a Beast Bomb as soon as the bell rang, but Blue was able to counter. Rose was obviously upset by this, but Blue followed it up with a nice superkick. Rose shifted gears after recovering and eventually nailed Blue with the Beast Bomb for the pin and win.

Jay Lethal defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)

Serpentico tried to put together some type of cohesive offense, but Lethal seemingly had a counter for everything. After clocking Luther off the apron, Lethal hit a Lethal Injection for the quick victory.

Private Party (w/ Matt Hardy) defeated Lee Johnson & Brock Anderson (w/ Arn Anderson)

Johnson and Isiah Kassidy started out. With some assistance from Matt Hardy, Kassidy took control and worked over Johnson while tagging in and out to Marq Quen.

Anderson came in off the hot tag and planted Quen with a spinebuster. Anderson then tried to apply a headlock to Quen, but Kassidy sprinted in the ring out of nowhere and rolled up Anderson with a foot on the rope for the victory. Kassidy had made a blind tag while Anderson was charging at Quen.

AEW Dark results: Matt Sydal vs. Serpentico

This week’s AEW Dark featured seven matches taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, headlined by Matt Sydal vs. Serpentico.

Varsity Blonds defeated Guillermo Rosas and Marcus Kross

Brian Pillman Jr. started off against Kross, but couldn’t get much done so he tagged out to Griff Garrison who immediately came in and delivered a boot to Kross. Rosas tagged himself in and poked Garrison in the eye when the referee wasn’t looking which led to a small period of success for himself and Kross. Pillman eventually came in on the hot tag and delivered a dropkick to Kross, followed by a clothesline in the corner.

Garrison came in shortly after and delivered a reverse body slam which got the Blonds the victory.

The Wingmen (Peter Avalon, JD Drake, Cezar Bononi & Ryan Nemeth) defeated Rohit Raju, Karam, Sotheara Chhun and Caleb Teninity

If nothing else, this match made me laugh.

The Wingmen all jumped the opposing team as the bell rang, clearing the ring. When The Wingmen went to celebrate, Raju and company led the charge and jumped them from behind before celebrating themselves.

Avalon and Raju eventually focused on the actual task at hand. Avalon wore him down in the corner, exchanging tags with Nemeth. The Wingmen spent a long time celebrating, allowing Chhun to get back into the match. Shortly after, all of The Wingmen hit their finishers on Chhun and pinned him for the victory.

Skye Blue defeated Ruthie Jay

I have high hopes for Blue in AEW, but this wasn’t the best display of her skills.

Blue did a great cartwheel fake out pump kick to start the match. Blue was slow in between offensive maneuvers, allowing Jay to have a moment of hope when she had Blue down in the corner. This didn’t last long though as Blue won shortly after with a flatliner that looked to land rough.

Nick Comoroto (w/ The Factory) defeated Lamar Diggs

Diggs actually came in with some powerful offense and had Comoroto backpedaling, but that momentum was halted quickly after Comoroto delivered a impressive standing suplex. Marshall, who was standing on the outside, delivered a cheap shot to Diggs as he was recovering.

Diggs had some crowd support when he was attempting a comeback, but Comoroto didn’t let it go far, pinning him after hitting a spinebuster.

10 (w/-1) defeated Ben Bishop

Bishop had a clear size advantage on 10 who quickly got frustrated after not being able to perform any of his power moves. Bishop took advantage of the frustration and nailed 10 with a side slam.

Bishop then hoisted up 10 for a power bomb, but it was reversed. 10, with the support of -1, bulldozed Bishop with a impressive spinebuster before following up with the full nelson submission that ended the match.

Fuego Del Sol defeated David Ali

Del Sol and Ali exchanged wrist control early on. Del Sol jumped through hoops to escape the hold, but it would cost him as Ali delivered a kick to the back.

Ali motioned through his “greatest hits” moveset, delivering a pull-up suplex while Del Sol was down in the corner. Ali got too cocky though as Del Sol made his comeback quickly and spiked his opponent with a tornado DDT for the pinfall victory.

Matt Sydal defeated Serpentico (w/ Luther)

Luther screamed at ringside which distracted Sydal and allowed an opening for Serpentico. Serpentico dumped Sydal to the outside, allowing Luther to drop the seasoned veteran on the barricade. Serpentico didn’t do much with Luther’s distractions though as Sydal turned the match around back in his favor with a series of meteoras.

Sydal stuck Serpentico with a roundhouse kick after “Snakeman” failed to hit a 450 splash. Sydal followed up with a lightning spiral which scored him the victory.

AEW Dark results: Joey Janela vs. Lee Moriarty

This week’s AEW Dark matches were taped at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Anthony Agogo defeated Marcus Kross

Agogo cut a promo before the match citing his success during last summer, saying that he deserves to be facing top talent like Adam Cole and CM Punk.

Kross tried a headscissors early on, but Agogo caught it mid-air and tossed him back toward the ropes. Agogo took his time with Kross, throwing him around the ring in different ways before eventually finishing him off with his pop-up knockout punch and subsequent ref stoppage.

Penelope Ford defeated Angelica Risk

Risk delivered a elbow strike early on which prompted Ford to get nasty and start using underhand tactics. Ford dragged Risk’s face across the top rope and pulled her hair before centering her in the ring with a headlock. After struggling with a few comeback attempts, Ford eventually made Risk tap with a muta lock.

QT Marshall defeated Toa Liona

Marshall almost tasted defeat early on after taking some high powered offense from Liona. Marshall eventually took back control of the match after working Liona to the mat. Marshall began getting cocky which gave Liona the fuel to deliver a running shoulder tackle that resulted in a near fall. When Liona went to hit his next move, Marshall popped up out of nowhere with a diamond cutter for the win.

2point0 (w/ Daniel Garcia) defeated Kidd Bandit & Ish

Parker and Lee isolated Bandit early on with frequent tags and taking turns beating him down. When Ish was able to tag in, 2point0 did the same until he was able to tag back out to Bandit. Parker and Lee hit Two for the Show on Bandit shortly after the tag for the win.

Lance Archer defeated Jordan Costa

Archer quickly lifted up Costa for the Blackout, but Costa reversed it into a sleeper hold that lasted all of three seconds. Archer threw Costa around for a few more seconds before beating him with the EBD Claw for the pin.

Marina Shafir defeated Reka Tehaka

Shafir and Tehaka locked up a few times, but nothing came of it. Tehaka nailed her with a spinning back kick that resulted in a near fall. Shafir transitioned quickly into a few standing headlocks, but Tehaka fought out with a pair of headbutts. When Tehaka went for another spinning back kick, Shafir caught her leg and twisted it up to get the submission win.

The Factory (Nick Comoroto & Aaron Solo) defeated Dante Casanova & Cam Stewart

Solo dropped Stewart on his head with a back body drop before tagging out to Comoroto, who bulldozed Stewart with a clothesline. After some slow paced offense, Stewart got a tag but Casanova was met with the same fate, eating a backbreaker from Comoroto. Solo eventually came in and finished Stewart with a double foot stomp from the top rope.

Tony Nese defeated Zack Clayton

Nese targeted Clayton’s leg after wrapping it around the ring post early on. He was kept grounded by Nese’s consistent attacks which inflicted a lot of damage. Clayton did have a slight moment of hope where he delivered a suplex to Nese, but it wasn’t enough as he eventually fell victim to the running knee finisher in the corner.

Kiera Hogan defeated Mazzerati

Mazzerati charged Hogan in the corner with a forearm when the bell rang before transitioning to a chinlock. Hogan escaped the hold rather quickly, went to the second turnbuckle and hit a shotgun dropkick that sent Mazzerati flying across the ring. Hogan finished her with a roundhouse kick shortly after.

Dark Order (Alan Angels & 10) defeated Ariya Daivari & Invictus Khash

Angels and Daivari ran the ropes until Daivari ran into a lariat from Angels. 10 and Khash made their way into the ring shortly after and had a small exchange that resulted in Khash getting the upper hand. Daivari tagged back in and helped Khash isolate 10 using a few double team maneuvers.

Angels received the hot tag eventually, which lit a fire underneath both himself and 10. The Dark Order pair delivered a series of moves to both Daivari and Khash before 10 put Khash away with his signature full nelson submission.

After the match, The Factory beat down Angels & 10 after they refused to join their group.

Dante Martin & Matt Sydal defeated Bear Country

Sydal tried to scout a way to take down Bear Bronson, but was met with a shoulder tackle. Martin got a chance to square off with Bronson, but it didn’t end well for him either as he ate a powerslam. Bear Boulder came in soon after and delivered multiple backbreakers to Martin.

The crowd hyped up Boulder for a middle rope moonsault but he missed. Martin was able to make the tag, leading to Sydal coming in and delivering multiple kicks to the midsection of Bronson. Martin sprung up out of nowhere and hit the Nosedive on Bronson for the win.

Lee Moriarty defeated Joey Janela (w/ Kayla Rossi)

Moriarty slapped on a wristlock early, prompting Janela to break the hold with a rope break. Janela rolled to the outside in an attempt to lure Moriarty out which worked as Moriarty was planted with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on the outside.

Janela worked the back of Moriarty which included a fantastic diving uppercut to his back. Janela, being frustrated after not getting the win, told the referee that his knee was hurt. This allowed Rossi to hit the ring and deliver a top rope headscissors to Moriarty.

Moriarty tried to apply a octopus lock on Janela after recovering, but his back gave out. Thinking quickly, Moriarty quickly transitioned to a European clutch pinning maneuver which scored him the win.

Moriarty cut a post-match promo saying that he didn’t have time to be “The Future” of AEW. Rather, he has to be “The Now.” It was also made apparent that Moriarty will have a more focused attitude going forward.

AEW Dark results: Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Wheeler Yuta

This week’s seven-match AEW Dark from Washington, DC, was headlined by a clash between Wheeler Yuta from Best Friends and Penta El Zero Miedo of Lucha Bros.

The Bunny (w/ The Blade) defeated Erica Leigh

The Bunny slung Leigh by her hair around the ring a few times before focusing on some knee-based offense. Leigh tried to reverse a few of Bunny’s moves, but ultimately fell to The Rabbit Hole which got her the three count.

2point0 & Daniel Garcia defeated Pat Brink, Rayo and Kekoa

Garcia and 2point0 jumped their opposition before the bell, which gave them a running start. Once the bell rang, it was unclear who the legal man was but it didn’t matter as Garcia tapped out Rayo with a sharpshooter very quickly.

2point0 then cut a promo running down the Inner Circle, citing that their days are numbered.

Lance Archer defeated Joe Keys

Keys dodged an Archer clothesline when he hit the ring, but immediately ate one shortly after. Archer took the bout to ringside and choked Keys on the barricade before tossing him back in the ring. Keys went to the second turnbuckle in an attempt to create some offense, but was on the receiving end of a Blackout that got Archer another win.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Janai Kai

Hirsch nailed Kai with a running knee before submitting her with the Legit Lock.

Gunn Club and The Acclaimed defeated Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, Alan “5” Angels and 10)

Uno and Bowens began the match before tags began to increase with Dark Order maintaining control. Eventually, Max Caster took an opportunity and pulled Alex Reynolds off the apron, sending him crashing face first to the floor.

Reynolds became a point of isolation for the heels, but that didn’t last for long when 10 got the hot tag. He came in and cleaned house, sending both members of The Acclaimed over the top rope with a double clothesline.

He tagged out to Angels, who hit a frog splash on Colten Gunn that resulted in a near fall. Austin Gunn came in and broke up the pin before helping Colten up. The pair hit a assisted floatover neckbreaker on Angels which gave him the win.

Penta El Zero Miedo defeated Wheeler Yuta (w/ Chuck Taylor & Kris Statlander)

Yuta forced Penta to the mat early, applying a various amount of holds before Penta made it back to his feet. Penta applied a leglock of his own before Yuta escaped, leaving them at a stalemate.

Yuta began to mount some offense, sending Penta to the outside. When Yuta attempted a dive, Penta blocked it with a kick to the head. Penta got in the ring with the momentum and attempted a dive of his own, but Yuta blocked it at the last second with a forearm strike.

As the match went on, there was no dominance from either competitor as they traded multiple maneuvers back and forth. Penta attempted to put away Yuta with a rotating driver, but Yuta surprisingly powered out at two. Penta motioned to drill Yuta with a hanging DDT on the arena floor before hitting his signature package piledriver in the middle of the ring to successfully put away Yuta.

Jungle Boy (w/ Luchasaurus) defeated Nick Comoroto (w/ QT Marshall & Aaron Solo)

Comoroto was in the driver’s seat early on, working down one half of the AEW Tag Team Champions with slow-paced offense. The other members of The Factory made attempts to get involved, but Luchasaurus took care of them easily. Jungle Boy regained control of the bout after diving onto Comoroto at ringside.

Comoroto tried to fight back against a energized Jungle Boy once they made it back in the ring, but his efforts went unnoticed. Jungle Boy hit a teardrop brainbuster on Comoroto shortly after for a two count.

The crowd was fully behind Jungle Boy at this point as he transitioned the failed pinfall into a snare trap which made Comoroto submit.

AEW Dark results: Adam Cole vs. Kaun

Tuesday’s AEW Dark featured the usual dose of matches highlighting some of the biggest stars in the company including Adam Cole, Anna Jay, Lance Archer and Orange Cassidy.

Adam Cole defeated Kaun

Cole controlled the early going with a few standing holds which prompted Kaun to retreat to the outside. Cole followed and threw him back in the ring, which was a detriment as it allowed Kaun to hit a few big moves including a gutbuster for a near fall.

Cole took back control after nailing Kaun with a kick to the head. Cole attempted a Panama Sunrise, but Kaun kept his ground and flipped Cole over his head. Cole wasted no time and recovered quickly, delivering his signature running knee strike for the win.

After the match, Cole stole the microphone from Tony Schiavone and put over his girlfriend, Britt Baker. Cole said that nobody will stop his or Baker’s legacy before dropping the mic and departing the ring.

Gunn Club (Austin & Colten) defeated Bison XL & Larintiz X

Austin jumped Larintiz from behind after the bell rang. The Gunn brothers frequented tags as they isolated Larintiz from his partner, but it wasn’t enough as Bison eventually came in and clotheslined Austin.

Larintiz became legal after Bison lost his momentum, allowing Austin and Billy to hit their neckbreaker/power bomb combo for the win.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Katalina Perez

Hirsch controlled Perez on the mat early on before she delivered a nice gutwrench suplex. Perez tried to gain an advantage by targeting the taped up shoulder of Hirsch, but would ultimately fall victim to a running knee from “Legit” Leyla which got the three count.

Lance Archer defeated Liam Cross

Archer jumped Cross before the introductions were finished. Archer took Cross into a turnbuckle and hit a Blackout off the top rope. After a few additional slams into the mat, Archer picked up the quick win.

Varsity Blonds (w/Julia Hart) defeated Adrian Alanis & Liam Grey

Pillman was distracted by Hart early on, which allowed Grey to sneak a few moves in. His success didn’t last long, prompting him to tag in Alanis. Alanis went toe-to-toe with Garrison, but was on the receiving end of a brainbuster/pin combo from Pillman after the Blonds exchanged a few tags.

Pillman cut a promo after the match regarding their match with the House Of Black on Dynamite, citing that they weren’t afraid of violence.

Red Velvet defeated Vipress

Vipress mocked Velvet early, but was met with a flurry of shoulder tackles. Vipress attempted to retreat to the corner, but found herself on the receiving end of a running splash.

Vipress found a second wind and nailed Velvet with a pump handle driver for a near fall. Velvet recovered rather quickly and hit a series of big moves before nailing Vipress with Final Slice to score the victory.

Skye Blue defeated Robyn Renegade (w/ Charlette Renegade)

Renegade and Blue exchanged arm holds after the opening bell with Blue gaining the advantage. Blue went to the second turnbuckle to capitalize, but was shoved off by Charlette Renegade.

Blue found herself in a favorable position after recovering from the interference, hitting a few big thrust kicks on Renegade before winning with a flatliner.

Anna Jay defeated Tiffany Nieves

Nieves showboated after hitting one weak kick on Jay, but Jay fought back with intense offense. She tapped out Nieves with the Queenslayer shortly after.

Daniel Garcia (w/ 2point0) defeated Anthony Greene

Greene got the upper hand in the early exchanges, controlling the arm while getting support from the crowd. Garcia got the advantage back after shoving Greene off the apron, allowing 2point0 to get involved and rough him up.

Garcia targeted Greene’s back with multiple knee strikes before cinching in a bow and arrow submission. Greene strung together some offense after escaping the hold, capping it off with a great running neckbreaker. Greene seemed to be on the verge of hitting his finisher when Garcia caught him in an abdominal stretch, forcing him to submit.

Garcia cut a promo after the match about how he will win the TNT title this year.

Bear Country (Bear Boulder & Bear Bronson) defeated Brandon Bullock & Jameson Ryan

Bronson and Boulder teamed up on Ryan, completely overwhelming him and forcing him to tag out to Bullock. Shortly after, Bronson dove off of Boulder’s shoulders and hit a splash to earn them the victory.

Orange Cassidy & Wheeler Yuta defeated The Wingmen (JD Drake & Peter Avalon)

Yuta and Avalon started things off. Yuta tied up Avalon but it didn’t last for too long as Avalon tagged out. Cassidy came in and went to do his hands in the pockets spot, but was blasted with a chop from Drake. Yuta tagged in to attempt to help Cassidy, but was on the receiving end of a double team from Avalon and Drake.

Yuta was worked over by mainly Avalon for a few minutes, eating a fair amount of strikes to the head. The match broke down after both Yuta and Avalon tagged out. Ryan Nemeth slid in the ring to help Drake, but would be thrown out by Cassidy. Drake eventually ran into the Orange Punch from Cassidy, leading to the pin and win.

AEW Dark: Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Colt Cabana, Sammy Guevara vs. Ho Ho Lun

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means: the first AEW Dark episode of the new year with a twelve-match card, taped last Wednesday at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Tony Nese defeated Alan “5” Angels

At first, Nese underestimated Angels which was his biggest mistake in this match. Nese’s strategy was to ground Angels but was not successful on certain occasions with Angels landing several dropkicks and enziguris. Nese had a great near fall with a pump handle piledriver. Nese secured the win after a combination of a German suplex into the turnbuckle and a running knee strike to improve his record to 7-1.

A very interesting note: Taz mentioned Nese’s scouting of Hook on the latest episode of Rampage, so a match between those two could happen very soon.

Anna Jay (w/ Tay Conti & -1) defeated Dream Girl Ellie

Jay (21-10) won this short match by submission with the Queenslayer.

Gunn Club defeated Austin Green, Donnie Primetime & Rolando Perez

This was the AEW debut for the trios of Green, Primetime and Perez. Colten and Austin tried to outpower Green, but were unsuccessful, Billy tried as well, but even he was unsuccessful in taking down Green. Austin hit the Quick Draw on Primetime (aka Kung Fu Janela) to pick up the win as the Gunn Club remains undefeated in trios action at 23-0.

Marina Shafir defeated Valentina Rossi

This was Moldova (Shafir) vs. Italy (Rossi) if we’re looking at country vs. country. Shafir showcased her MMA experience with several body shots. Shafir won by submission with a leg capture triangle, picking up her first win in two outings. I think we are definitely seeing more of her in AEW down the line after this outing.

Bobby Fish defeated Ryzin

Fish dominated, ending this with a roundhouse kick to improve his record to 5-4.

Leyla Hirsch, Red Velvet & Kris Statlander defeated Marina Tucker, Renee Michelle & Sofia Castillo

Hirsch and Statlander seem to have some beef between each other every time they tagged the other. Statlander eventually got a hot tag and cleaned house on her opponents. However, it was Hirsch and the jujigatami on Michelle that picked up the win for her team.

The Acclaimed defeated Axton Ray & Blanco Loco

This was the AEW debut for Ray and Blanco. Max Caster’s entrance rap was very funny as expected. The Acclaimed focused their efforts on Loco and the Caster Mic Drop picked up the victory for the aspiring Tag Team title challengers.

Jamie Hayter defeated Madi Wrenkowski

Hayter destroyed Wrenkowski with several powerful chops which marked the beginning of the end. Hayter (5-4) hit a brainbuster to pick up the win.

Dante Martin defeated Chandler Hopkins

Martin (22-8) won this short match with the Nose Dive.

Sammy Guevara defeated Ho Ho Lun

This match was the AEW debut for Lun. Guevara started things by alienating Lun who ended up resorting to cheap tricks like attacking Guevara’s eyes to get things in his favor. The former TNT Champion (11-2) won after landing both a GTH and a Cross Rhodes. This was a very important win for Guevara ahead of his TNT title rematch at Saturday’s Battle of the Belts.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Colt Cabana

Hobbs showcased his strength while Cabana was trying to avoid his power moves with speed and smarts. Hobbs got a near fall on Cabana with a spinebuster. Cabana tried to go for a moonsault, but Hobbs dodged it. He then picked up the win with the torture rack, his 20th against just four losses.

Brian Pillman Jr. defeated JD Drake (w/ Cezar Bononi)

Bononi helped Drake throughout the match, distracting Pillman Jr. and attacking him whenever possible. Pillman Jr. overcame it and picked up the victory after hitting the Air Pillman. This was a big confidence booster for Pillman Jr. (31-11) because of his current feud with Malakai Black and their upcoming match on Wednesday.

Final Thoughts:

Hobbs vs. Cabana, Nese vs. Angels, and Guevara vs. Lun were the best matches of the night, highlighted by Taz and Excalibur on commentary.

AEW Dark results: The Young Bucks in action

Video —

Report —

The show opened with a backstage segment. Peter Avalon and Brandon Cutler were bickering as Leva Bates looked on. The unnamed backstage interviewer informed them that they were booked for Dark tonight.

The Young Bucks entered and informed Cutler and Avalon that they were their opponents tonight. The Bucks plugged their book and made jokes about their time in TNA.

Avalon and Cutler continued bickering.

**********

Excalibur and Taz welcomed us to the show and plugged Fyter Fest.

**********

Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated “Platinum” Max Caster

The focus here was on continuing to establish the loaded glove for Spears. The match itself was little more than a squash.

Referee Aubrey Edwards checked Spears’ glove before the match to check that it wasn’t loaded.

Caster hit an arm drag. Spears hit a trip takedown and went to work. Spears worked Caster over with punches, a back suplex and a chinlock.

Caster got a hope spot with a surprise cradle for a two count.

They immediately went to the finish which saw Spears hit the C4 for the pin.

Spears went to the stage. He loaded his glove and returned to the ring to lay out Caster with a punch.

Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) defeated Pineapple Pete

They did a half-baked angle with Archer and Joey Janela ahead of their Fyter Fest match and the match was secondary to that.

Archer attacked Pete during his entrance. Pete came back by sending Archer into Roberts on the stage. Roberts stumbled but didn’t take a bump.

Pete got some early offense with an enzuigiri. Archer rolled outside. Janela distracted Archer from the crowd.

Pete went for a suicide dive. Archer caught him and hit a chokeslam on the apron. Archer hit a springboard swanton for a two count. He continued working Pete over with power moves.

Archer went for Blackout but Pete escaped. Pete got a brief comeback with a headbutt but was quickly cut off.

Archer then hit Blackout and pinned Pete with the EBD Claw.

Archer attacked Pete again after the match. Janela ran in with a leaf blower and chased Archer away.

Ricky Starks defeated Griff Garrison

Garrison is long and lean and has some potential but this was not his best night. His role in this match was to make Starks look good but he was just too green to pull it off.

Garrison tripped on a hurdle spot early. They played it off well. Starks hit a leapfrog and a beautiful dropkick. Starks hit a series of strikes in the corner and a missile dropkick off the second rope. They traded chops.

The finish saw Starks hit a misdirection spear for the pin.

Scorpio Sky defeated Brady Pierce

This was a showcase for Sky.

Pierce shoved Sky at the opening bell. Sky responded with a waistlock takedown for a quick near fall. Sky did some amateur wrestling spots. Pierce slapped Sky. Sky came back with the Kobe dropkick.

Sky used a magistral cradle and a shoulder block. Pierce ended up bleeding from the mouth. Pierce hit a yakuza kick in the corner and got a near fall.

Sky came back with a slingshot cutter for the pin.

Brandi Rhodes & Allie (w/ Dustin Rhodes) defeated KiLynn King & Skyler Moore

This was a sloppy match but the action was secondary to furthering the worst storyline in pro wrestling, the Brandi/Allie/Dustin/QT foursome.

Justin Roberts introduced Allie and Brandi as “The Nightmare Sisters.” Brandi corrected him. She said that she and Allie are not related and not a team.

Allie brought out a poster with QT Marshall’s face on it and kissed it.

Brandi and King started off and traded cradles. Allie blind tagged herself in and scored a two count. Allie hit King with knee strikes.

Allie climbed to the second rope and Brandi blind tagged herself in. As Allie and Brandi argued, King cut off Brandi. Moore saw her first action of the match as King and Moore worked over Brandi in their corner.

Brandi hit Tomohiro Ishii’s forearm strike and chop combination series. King cut her off with a pump kick. Moore hit a slam for a two count. Brandi came back with a stunner.

Allie got a hot tag. She mocked Dustin by doing some Goldust mannerisms. Allie hit Moore with a GTR. She then tagged Brandi in and allowed her to cover Moore for the pin.

The Butcher & The Blade defeated Low Rida & Fuego Del Sol

Taz’s attempt to get a free dinner by plugging a local restaurant was the highlight of this match.

The lowlight was Blade spiking Low Rida on the top of his head on a backdrop driver. To her credit, Aubrey Edwards was right on top of things and checked to make sure that Rida was both alive and conscious. Although he appeared to be okay at first, the match should have been stopped.

Rida was not done though as Blade then suplexed him into the buckle. Rida clutched his head afterwards. I would be shocked if he wasn’t concussed.

Butcher tapped out Fuego with a crab after a squash match.

The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) defeated Peter Avalon & Brandon Cutler (w/ Leva Bates)

This was the best match on the show, though the result was never in doubt.

Matt and Cutler began with a nice exchange. Nick tagged in. Avalon wanted a tag but Cutler refused. Nick hit a springboard attack to Avalon on the stage anyway.

The Bucks worked over Cutler. Avalon kicked Matt in the back from the apron. Cutler was upset that Avalon cheated. As they argued, Matt tagged Nick and they hit some tandem offense.

Avalon and Matt ended up the legal men. Bates jumped on the apron but it led to nothing. Nick jumped in to distract Avalon. Matt hit a spear. Nick tagged in and hit a running knee for a two count.

Matt tagged in. Avalon blocked a superkick. They hit simultaneous clotheslines. Cutler tagged in and took on both Bucks by himself. Cutler hit a tope suicida to both Bucks.

Cutler hit a high cross on Matt for a near fall. Avalon and Cutler argued which allowed Nick to recover on the floor. Avalon and Cutler hit some tandem offense. Cutler hit Matt with a springboard elbow for a two count.

Matt came back with a double northern lights suplex. Nick got a hot tag. He hit a facebuster to Avalon, a dive to Cutler, then threw a superkick party.

Matt tagged in. Matt and Nick hit Avalon with the BTE Trigger for the pin.

Avalon and Cutler shook hands after the match. The story seems to be that they’re finally coming together as a team despite losing.

The show ended with a Fyter Fest hype video.

**********

I am of the belief that AEW’s goal with Dark is to sell it to a television partner. I would suggest that if they want to do that, they need to make the show more compelling. Have competitive matches. Shoot angles that don’t revolve around whether Avalon or Cutler is a bigger loser or QT Marshall’s love life.

The combined AEW career tag and singles record of the losers of this week’s matches now stands at 0 wins and 63 losses.

AEW Dark results: Orange Cassidy vs. Peter Avalon

Brian Cage defeated Robert Anthony

Anthony started the match hitting chops. He kicked Cage, but he cut off Anthony with a clothesline. Cage hit a Buckle Bomb and then a apron suplex into the ring before killing him with a Drill Claw.

A quick, effective squash.

SCU defeated David Ali and Musa

Daniels started the match with Musa and exchanged some armdrags, ending with a standoff between both men. David attacked Daniels from behind and Musa hit a powerslam on Daniels before tagging out to David Ali. Musa hit a moonsault on Daniels, scoring a two count.

David hit a butterfly suplex for another two count. Musa went to attack Kaz, but Kazarian dodged and hit a legdrop over the middle rope that sent Musa into a Blue Thunder Bomb by Daniels. Daniels tagged out. Kaz hit a big clothesline on Ali and then tagged out to Daniels.

SCU hit a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo on Ali, and Kaz tagged back in. They then hit the Best Meltzer Ever for the win.

This was a fun little tag match that showed off SCU, but allowed the newer talent that was squashed to get some offence in.

Shawn Spears (with Tully Blanchard) defeated Pineapple Pete

Spears seemed to have a greater edge to him in this match, which he needed. Spears hit a shoulder tackle, which got Pete frustrated. Pete hit a crossbody for a one count, and every attempt at a pinfall again resulted in a one count from Spears. Spears rolled out of the ring and came back aggressively with some shots in the corner.

The ref checked Spears’ glove to make sure nothing was in it. Taz’s commentary was great here, implying it was ridiculous to think anyone would use something in a glove like it was the 80s. Spears hit a spinebuster for a two count. Pete fought out of a back suplex, but Spears hit a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count.

Tully then distracted the referee, allowing Spears to slip something into his glove. Spears then dropped Pete and got the pinfall. I really like the payoff with the ref checking the glove earlier and then Spears loading it later. I think this could be a winning heel gimmick for Spears.

Lance Archer w/ Jake Roberts defeated Griff Garrison

I’m afraid Griff is about to die. Archer killed him with a pounce. He hit Griff with a few chops before yelling at the Gunn Club at ringside. Archer hit a hard forearm, then an uranage for a two count. Archer continued the beating, but Garrison’s morale did not improve. Archer hit the Blackout and then the EVD Claw for the win.

Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela defeated 3 & 4

Janela started the match with Renyolds, and subjected him to several double team moves with Kiss for a two count. Renyolds drove Kiss back into the corner and tagged out, but Silver ate a forearm and Kiss tagged out to Janela. Janela hit a Russian legsweep on Silver for a two count.

Silver hit a dropkick so hard on Janela that his mask came off, and Taz loved it as he never saw it before. Silver paused and put his mask back on. Silver pressed Janela into a cutter from Renyolds for a two count. They got the heat on Janela for the next few minutes.

Janela was able to roll and avoid a clothesline to tag out and Kiss hit a flipping dropkick and flatliner for a two count on Silver. Janela went for a dive through the legs of Kiss, but Silver caught him. Silver then picked up Janela for a suplex and Renyolds hit a suicide dive into Janela.

Kiss and Janela managed to hit stereo dropkicks off the top rope. Kiss hit a leg drop off the top rope after jumping off the back of Silver then onto Renyolds. Janela hit a DVD on Silver for the win.

I liked how good the Dark Order looked here. Janela and Kiss also had some good offense, which makes me look forward to their match on Dynamite.

Mel defeated Kilynn King

King and Mel exchanged some wrist lock attempts to start the match, but Mel blocked an armdrag and threw King to the mat. Mel drove King into the middle turnbuckle and then hit some hard strikes in the corner. King went for another armdrag, but Mel stomped on her.

King hit a jumping kick before finally getting the armdrag and hitting a running uppercut on Mel in the corner. King hit a series of hard chops on Mel. King hit a crossbody and then missed a middle rope dropkick before Mel hit a hard chokebomb for the three count.

This match was not very good at all. I think King has a lot of potential, but she is clearly still green. Mel is simply okay.

Scorpio Sky defeated Lee Johnson

Sky and Johnson exchanged a ton of standing switches before Sky hit a takedown and a headlock. Sky went for a quick cradle for a two count, and then both men exchanged chops before exchanging some strikes. Sky hit a dropkick on Lee and got a two count.

Sky hit a backbreaker for a two count. Taz clearly likes Lee, as he said he is getting better every single match, even in losing, when he faces older and more experienced wrestlers. Johnson flipped out of a German suplex attempt and then hit a Blue Thunder Bomb or a two count.

Sky sprawled out, so Johnson just hit him with a forearm and countered a sunset flip with a pinfall attempt for a two count. Sky managed to hit a TKO and score the pinfall.

I like Lee Johnson. I think he’s quite talented, and I expect he will have a good future in AEW should they choose to sign him. The singles push of Sky continues, and hopefully we will see him move up the rankings soon.

Jurassic Express defeated Luther, Serperntico, and Max Caster

The Jurassic Express faced a rather strange trio. Certainly, an assortment of gimmicks, to say the least. Max Caster decided to try and freestyle, but Marko slapped him and started to throw punches. Excalibur said that Marko was more of a folk music fan. That made me laugh.

Marko hit a huge dropkick in the corner and then followed up with a second. Jungle Boy tagged in and helped launch Marko into another dropkick before hitting a boot scrape on Caster. Jungle Boy hit a running knee strike for a two count. Caster tried to tag repeatedly, showing desperation, which was quite funny as he laid in his corner.

Serpentico and Jungle Boy exchanged some basic lucha before tagging out to Luther, who gave Jungle Boy the look of death. Luchasaurus tagged in and both faced off. Luther then tagged out immediately to Serpentico after ducking a kick. The Express beat on Serpentico and Caster for a bit with double team moves.

Luther broke up a pinfall attempt and started to beat on Marko Stunt. Luther hit a belly-to-belly for a two count. Luther argued with the ref over a two count, and tagged out to Caster. Marko hit a dropkick on Caster again and tagged out to Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus ran wild, hitting hard kicks and hitting Extinction.

Luther threw Marko onto Luchasaurus to break the pinfall. Serpentico and Luther decided to leave Caster to the wolves, as Jungle Boy made Caster tap out. I wonder if we’re seeing an alliance between Serpentico and Luther?

Orange Cassidy w/ Chuck & Trent defeated Peter Avalon w/ Leva Bates

OC started the match with the traditional hands in the pockets stance. Avalon took him over with a headlock. There were some comedy spots around OC’s hands being in the pockets, as OC found creative ways to keep putting his hands in his pockets.

OC was able to hit a dropkick, sending Avalon to the mat before kicking back up to his feet. OC then put on his sunglasses on the floor and flirted with Leva Bates. Avalon hit a baseball slide on OC for that, and then hit a flapjack on Cassidy back in the ring for a two count.

Avalon hit a butterfly suplex on Cassidy for a two count. Cassidy drove Avalon into each top turnbuckle before hitting a DDT for a two count. Cassidy managed to hit a superman punch for the pinfall victory over Avalon.

Solid little match here to close the show.

Report —

Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt) defeated Jon Cruz & Capital Vices (Sin & Money)

This was the AEW debut for Sin and Money, a great jobber tag team.

They had a 15 minute match crammed into five minutes.

Jungle Boy used two sloppy cradles on Money for near falls. Stunt and Cruz tagged in and Stunt hit Cruz with a senton and a dropkick. Luchasaurus and Money got tags and Luchasaurus used a series of throws on Money.

Cruz broke up a pin attempt on Money. Sin jumped in and hit a low blow on Jungle Boy. Sin hit Jungle Boy with a flatliner. Cruz blind-tagged himself in. Stunt hit Cruz with a tail whip.

Luchasaurus tagged in and ran wild with kicks. He hit a standing moonsault to Cruz but Sin broke it up. Jungle Boy and Cruz got tags again. Jungle Boy hit a tiger suplex for a near fall.

Stunt hit dives to Sin and Money. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus hit the Extinction Level Event on Cruz and pinned him.

SCU (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated Brandon Cutler & Peter Avalon (w/ Leva Bates)

This was a good showcase for SCU. Cutler and Avalon are going nowhere. Even the comedy loser duo thing has run its course.

Kazarian hit a series of arm drags and hip tosses on Avalon and Cutler. Daniels tagged in and was cut off. Cutler and Avalon couldn’t stay on the same page and allowed Daniels to make a hot tag to Kazarian. Kazarian hit a leg slice on Cutler.

Kazarian was briefly cut off as Avalon hit a fireman’s carry slam and Cutler hit a springboard elbow for a two count. Everyone jumped in as the match broke down. Kazarian hit a diving cutter on Avalon. Daniels covered and Cutler broke it up.

Daniels and Kazarian hit a powerbomb/neckbreaker combo on Cutler to take him out and followed with Celebrity Rehab on Avalon. Daniels pinned Avalon.

Big Swole defeated Dani Jordyn

This was short.

Jordyn threw her “burn book” at Swole before the opening bell. Swole found her own name in the book.

They traded the upper hand. Jordyn cut Swole off with a kick and used a chinlock. Swole came back with a diving cutter through the middle rope.

Swole hit a knee strike out of a fireman’s carry and followed up with Dirty Dancing for the pin.

**********

The nameless backstage interviewer spoke with Leva Bates. Bates said she had a plan to turn Cutler and Avalon into winners.

Cutler and Avalon entered and started bickering. They broke up as a team.

**********

Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) defeated David Ali

This was just a squash. It was Ali’s AEW debut.

Archer attacked a video editor on his way to the ring and almost knocked the guy out of his pants.

Archer dominated with a series of kicks and strikes. Ali tried to come back after escaping a chokeslam but Archer hit a series of kicks to the ribs and face.

Archer hit Blackout. He had Ali pinned but pulled him up after a two count.

Archer then used the EBD Claw to pin Ali.

Archer hit a chokeslam after the bell.

Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss defeated Musa & Shawn Dean

Janela and Kiss are a fun team. This was a showcase for them.

Janela and Kiss hit some tandem offense.

Archer randomly wandered to the stage during the match as if he were going to attack everyone in the ring but Roberts talked him down and escorted him back through the tunnel.

Musa and Dean cut Kiss off. Dean hit some strikes and a shoulder in the corner. Musa hit a neckbreaker for a one count.

Kiss made a hot tag to Janela. Janela hit a senton on both Dean and Musa. Janela tagged Kiss, then hit a frankensteiner on Musa and a tope suicida to Dean.

Kiss then hit the splits leg drop off the top for the pin.

Brandi Rhodes & Allie (w/ Dustin Rhodes and QT Marshall) defeated Red Velvet & Kenzie Paige

The worst storyline in AEW continued here, but with a new focus on Allie vs. Brandi rather than the romance between Allie and Marshall.

Red Velvet has the personality piece of this down but she needs work in the ring.

Allie hit Paige with a forearm before the opening bell. Allie used a lot of heelish mannerisms and delivered some aggressive strikes to Paige. Brandi and Allie tagged in and out with no problems between them.

Brandi got sent into Allie. Allie took a bump off the apron to the floor and sold her ankle. Brandi hit some of Dustin’s trademark spots on Velvet before being cut off.

Brandi made her own comeback as Allie refused to get back on the apron. Brandi hit a slingblade and a spear to Paige.

Allie blind tagged herself in after the spear. Brandi covered but she was no longer legal. Allie then sauntered into the ring and stood on Paige’s chest for the pin.

Brandi and Allie got into it after the match. Brandi, the babyface, shoved Allie. QT raised Allie’s hand like she just won the World title.

Dustin has to know this sucks, right? Think of everything Dustin Rhodes has seen and been a part of in wrestling. Think of the angles. He knows this sucks, for sure.

Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) defeated Lee Johnson

Spears is wearing the black glove that Blanchard gave him to get his edge back.

They had a quick back and forth match. Johnson got a fair bit of offense. He went for a tope suicida but Spears blocked it with a forearm strike.

Spears teased a C4 but instead used the sharpshooter and Johnson immediately tapped out.

The Dark Order (Stu Grayson & Evil Uno) defeated Brady Pierce & John Skyler

5 and 10 accompanied Dark Order.

In another squash, Uno pinned Skyler after Grayson hit Fatality off the top rope.

Pierce was positioned as less of a jobber than Skyler as Skyler took the bulk of the beating.

Mr. Brodie Lee came to the stage to celebrate after the win.

Jimmy Havoc defeated Griff Garrison

These two had a nice match.

Havoc hit a series of stiff strikes. They rolled outside. Havoc went for a chop but missed and chopped the post. Havoc responded right away and whipped Garrison into the barricade.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defeated Robert Anthony in a non-title match

They went about twelve minutes. Anthony is fundamentally sound but I would not have had him do a competitive match with the World Champion.

The show began with a voiceover promo from Taz. He said he would not be explaining or discussing his relationship with Brian Cage on Dark tonight. I appreciate that they thought to explain this away.

**********

Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall (w/ Brandi Rhodes) defeated Alex Reynolds & John Silver

First and foremost, QT ditched the apple toss in his entrance. I am taking credit for that.

This match was just a backdrop for a new angle with Allie and Marshall.

Dustin began working on Reynolds’ left arm. Marshall tagged in for a senton.

Allie appeared in the stands, eating an apple. This distracted Marshall, who acted as though this was the most erotic thing he had ever seen. Silver used the distraction to his a running knee off the apron and cut off Marshall.

Marshall made his own comeback and Dustin got a hot tag. Dustin hit an inverted atomic drop, a bulldog and a powerslam.

The finish saw Dustin hit a destroyer on Reynolds. Marshall then tagged in and hit a Diamond Cutter on Reynolds for the pin.

**********

Michael Nakazawa defeated Brandon Cutler by countout

They tried, but this was not good.

Nakazawa used three quick pinning combinations right off the bat looking for a quick finish.

Cutler came back with a springboard elbow, a Russian leg sweep, then a springboard elbow drop. Kind of a new take on the classic Bret Hart sequence. Probably the only comparison between Cutler and Hart that I will ever make.

Nakazawa reached into his trunks for oil but he couldn’t find any. Nakazawa split his trunks. They traded chops and strikes. Cutler was busted open over his right eye.

They pushed this as the first countout in AEW history.

Avalon said he’s going to win his match right now and prove that Cutler is the worst wrestler in AEW.

Cutler joined the commentary team for the next match.

**********

Jungle Boy (w/ Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt) defeated Peter Avalon (w/ Leva Bates)

They traded some holds. Avalon used a headscissors takeover and Jungle Boy did a handstand out of the hold.

Avalon used an inside cradle for a two count. Avalon hit Marti-Knees for another two count.

Things got needlessly convoluted at the finish. Bates jumped on the apron. Luchasaurus put Bates on his shoulders. Stunt forcibly kissed Bates. Can we erase that spot from the babyface repertoire in 2020?

Jungle Boy used the distraction to tie Avalon up in his SGS, an inverted STF. Avalon tapped out.

The finish saw Cabana hit flip, flop and fly, then used the Billy Goat’s Curse for the submission victory.

**********

Penelope Ford (w/ Kip Sabian) defeated KiLynn King

I feel like Ford needs more performances like this to build some confidence. She has that confidence when she’s working as a valet but it’s not always there in the ring.

Ford made a show of taking off her engagement ring after the opening bell.

They traded headlocks. King used a misdirection spot to hit a shoulder tackle. King followed with a vertical suplex for a two count.
