AAA reveals full lineup for Triplemania 31: Monterrey

AAA has revealed the full card for their first Triplemania event of the year taking place next month in Monterrey.

During a press conference held on Tuesday, AAA announced that a Mega Championship match had been added to the April 16 card. El Hijo del Vikingo (or Komander, based on the result from this week’s ROH Supercard of Honor match for the title) will defend against a mystery opponent. LA Park is also returning to the promotion to team with Rush. Originally, Pagano was announced as Rush’s tag team partner, but had to pull out due to injury.

A match between social media influencer Adrian Marcelo and Chessman was also announced. The angle started at the NWA/AAA The World is a Vampire event, where Chessman slapped Marcelo. AAA suspended Chessman in storyline as a result.

Dralistico, who was originally announced as part of the Lucha de Apuestas match, is no longer taking part. He has been replaced by Abismo Negro Jr..

Here is the current lineup for Triplemania 31: Monterrey:

  • AAA Mega Championship: Either Hijo del Vikingo or Komander defends against TBA
  • Guerra de Rivalidades first round: Alberto El Patron and Pentagon Jr. vs. Sam Adonis and Psycho Clown
  • Guerra de Rivalidades first round: Rush & LA Park vs. DMT Azul and Blue Demon Jr.
  • Lucha de Apuestas cage match: Laredo Kid vs. Black Taurus vs. Octagon Jr. vs. Hijo de Villano III Jr. vs. Argenis vs. Myzteziz Jr. vs. Aerostar vs. Parka Negra vs. Abismo Negro Jr. vs. Antifaz del Norte
  • Mask vs. Mask match based on the two remaining participants in the cage match
  • Copa Triplemania: Team Chilangos (Dave the Clown, Negro Casas, Latigo, Arez, and Lady Shani) vs. Team Regios (Baby Extreme, Flammer, El Zorro, Toscano, and TBA)
  • Chessman vs. Adrian Marcelo

Willie Mack on why he left Impact, his first Triplemania in Mexico City

Minutes following his match at this month’s AAA Triplemania in Mexico City, I talked with Willie Mack on what he thought about the bout and why he is no longer in Impact Wrestling.

Impact

Mack had signed with Impact in 2018 and in May, he announced that after four years, he was leaving. During his time there, he was the X-Division Champion and won the company’s One to Watch in 2020 award in their 2019 year-end awards.

Mack informed me his decision was “first and foremost a money thing,” later adding “They promised one thing and I said, ‘You know what? I am not accepting that.'”

That led Mack to return to where he first began: the indies.

“Even though it’s a tough grind, at least I am having fun and getting to travel and seeing people I hadn’t seen in years.”

He said he is bummed about how things went down at Impact and even said some of his friends were trying to talk him out of leaving. But, Mack insisted this was something he had to do: go out and prove himself.

“I see them every now and then, but hopefully if anything changes in the future. I might be back. But, who knows? It’s wrestling.”

Mack also explained that he likes having the freedom to handle his own bookings and his own schedule and that it’s good to be able to do your own thing.

Leaving Impact has not slowed him down and that his schedule was keeping him both busy and booked with “little time to chill in-between.”

“This is how I pay my bills and so I gotta get my ass out of bed and do something.”

Triplemania XXX

Mack has worked for AAA in the past, dating back to 2019, continuing in 2021 and then several more this year. While he took part in AAA Triplemania Regia II, this was his first Triplemania in Mexico City.

“I’ve been hunting down people for so long saying I want to be on Triplemania, even when I first started wrestling.”

Mack said that getting to be part of the company’s thirty year anniversary show was “something special” and he was “glad to be part of it.”

Mack will soon be making his debut for GCW as part of Hit ‘Em Up this Saturday in Los Angeles, California.

Konnan says Kenny Omega couldn’t send video for Triplemania due to ‘legal issues’

Konnan says that Kenny Omega was prevented from sending a video to AAA for Triplemania due to “legal issues.”

Omega is technically the number-one contender for El Hijo del Vikingo’s AAA Mega Championship but was not permitted to take part in this weekend’s Triplemania event. He continues to be suspended from AEW due to the backstage altercation he was involved in at All Out. The suspension prevents him from taking part in bookings outside the promotion as well.

On the latest edition of his Keepin’ it 100 podcast, Konnan mentioned that he approached Omega about submitting a video to be played during the show but was told that was not possible.

“I know there are some legal issues because I actually asked Kenny Omega if he could send me a video for Triplemania, whoever wins between Vikingo and Fenix because, you know, he’s the number one contender, and he goes, ‘I still can’t because of legal issues.’ So, there is something legal going on,” Konnan said.

Last month, Konnan noted on his podcast that Omega’s suspension also prevented him from wrestling at Triplemania.

Our own Dave Meltzer addressed possible legal issues stemming from the altercation at All Out in the October 3 edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“Regarding the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, they all hadn’t heard anything from the company at least as of a few days ago,” he wrote.

Meltzer continued, “the belief is that their situation is on hold pending potential legal action, which unless cleared up, could delay things for some time and there is also a second hold up that hasn’t been made clear.”

AAA Triplemania XXX notes: Rey Mysterio appears via video, Cibernetico loses hair

Here are news and notes from Saturday’s Triplemania event in Mexico City.

Rey Mysterio, who is currently under contract to WWE, appeared at the start of the show, talking about Triplemania. He thanked all the fans for being there.

In one of the three top matches on the card, Cibernetico lost his hair to Pagano. In a match filled with weapons, tables, barbed wire, and thumbtacks, Pagano scored the win after landing an air raid crash off a ladder, sending both men through the stage. Vampiro, who had inserted himself into the match as a referee after the first referee was knocked out, counted the pinfall. Konnan, who was attacked earlier in the show by Cibernetico and the rest of Los Vipers, got involved as well, attacking Los Vipers with a weapon.

Los Hermanos Lee (Dralistico and Dragon Lee) defeated Arez and Willie Mack, Myzteziz Jr. and Komander, and Los Vipers (Toxin and Latigo) in a four-way match to earn a future shot at the AAA Tag Team titles, which are currently held by AEW’s FTR. Also on the show, Taurus won the 13-person copa Triplemania battle royal.

Later in the show, a ceremony was held inducting two new members of the AAA Hall of Fame: Blue Demon, who would have turned 100 on April 24 of this year, and Arturo ‘Rudo’ Riviera, who passed away earlier this year. Family members of both men accepted the honor, including Blue Demon Jr. on behalf of his father.

Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti win Mixed Tag Team titles at AAA Triplemania XXX

Sammy Guevara did not wrestle at tonight’s Triplemania event in Monterrey, but he and Tay Conti became the new AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions anyway.

Guevara and Conti won the titles, defeating Arez & Chik Tormenta, Kommander & Sexy Star, and Latigo & Lady Maravilla. The finish of the match had Guevara, who originally was replaced in the match by Parka Negra, enter the match and attack Arez and Tormenta with a crutch he was using at ringside. Despite technically not being in the match, Guevara and Conti covered Arez and Tormenta to win the titles for the first time.

Arez and Tormenta had held the titles for 800 days, defeating Big Mami and Nino Hamburguesa at Triplemania XXVII on August 3, 2019.

In a pre-tape promo prior to the match, Tay Conti was concerned about Guevara since he was hurt due to his ladder match against Scorpio Sky that took place at AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday. But Conti told Guevara that she had a plan. Guevara and Conti then came out and revealed Conti’s new tag team partner, Parka Negra.

Young Bucks vs. El Hijo del Vikingo & Fenix set for AAA Triplemania

The winners will advance to the second round at Triplemania XXX: Tijuana on June 18.

AEW’s Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti will also team in Monterrey in a lucha de parejas mixtas match, facing Sexy Star & Octagon Jr., and Maravilla & Latigo.

Andrade El Idolo, John Morrison, Taya, and Deonna Purrazzo are other notable internationally known talent set for the event.

August 23, 2021 Observer Newsletter: Big weekend preview, AAA Triplemania review

Ric Flair appeared as the manager of Andrade, and put Konnan in the figure four leglock at AAA’s TripleMania show on 8/14 at Arena Ciudad in Mexico City.

Kenny Omega retained the AAA Mega heavyweight title over Andrade while Psycho Clown retained his mask in the main event over Rey Escorpion and the two shook hands to end their grudge match program with Escorpion getting his head shaved.

The show had other headlines, including Deonna Purrazzo becoming both the Impact and AAA women’s champion in a title vs. title match with Faby Apache, and not so surprising arrival of the New Generation Dinamitas, days after CMLL announced they were no longer with the promotion and were stripping them of their titles.

The Dinamitas arrived after the second match, the Copa Bardahl Royal Rumble style match. They played an updated version of the ELP classic “Touch and Go,” the same song from CMLL and the song the Original Dinamitas used dating back at least 30 years. When they came out, on the screen they were called the New Generation Dinamitas and the names used were Cuatrero & Sanson & Forastero, the same names they had used since becoming stars in CMLL. As it turns out they will be able to keep their names because they filed for ownership of the names in 2017.

AAA releases TripleMania card, Alberto El Patron drops out of event

Alberto El Patron is off this year’s TripleMania, blaming AAA for not paying him his deposit.

The card for this year’s TripleMania was announced today, with El Patron being noticeably absent despite AAA’s announcement earlier this year that he would be in a match. As the press conference was still going on, El Patron’s management issued a press release citing that Dorian Roldan and AAA did not pay him his deposit beforehand and that they did not come to terms.

Two of the top three matches for this year’s TripleMania will both be fatal four way matches. The main event is a four way cage match with Psycho Clown taking on Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagon Jr. and LA Park. Two people will escape, then the last two in the ring will have a one fall match with the winner taking the loser’s mask.

In a mask vs. hair match, Lady Shani will take on Faby Apache in the co-main event. The other fatal four way match will have Jeff Jarrett defending the AAA Mega Heavyweight title against Brian Cage, Rich Swann and Fenix.

Here is what was announced today for TripleMania, which will take place on August 25 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico. The event will stream on AAA’s Twitch page, with Matt Striker and Vampiro doing English commentary:

  • Psycho Clown vs. Hijo del Fantasma vs. La Park vs. Pentagon Jr. – cage match with last two entrants facing off in a mask match
  • Lady Shani vs. Faby Apache – mask vs. hair
  • Jeff Jarrett vs. Fenix vs. Brian Cage vs. Rich Swann for the AAA Mega Heavyweight title
  • La Mascara, Rey Escorpion and Texano Jr. vs. Joe Lider, Murder Clown and Pagano
  • Jack Evans, Juventud Guerrera and Teddy Hart vs. Averno, Chessman and Super Fly
  • Mamba, Maximo and Pimpinela Escarlata vs. Carta Brava Jr., Mocho Cota Jr. and Tito Santana vs. Hijo de LA Park, Puma King and Taurus
  • Aerostar and Drago vs. Golden Magic and Laredo Kid, Bandido and Flamita and Andrew Everett and DJZ — ladder match for the number one contendership to the AAA tag team titles
  • Big Mami and Nino Hamburguesa vs. Hijo Del Vikingo and Vanilla, Dinastia and Lady Maravilla and Angelikal and La Hiedra for the AAA mixed tag team titles
  • Australian Suicide AAA cruiserweight title match
  • A Llave a la Gloria match
