SmackDown averaged a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down 20.7% from the prior week and ties the lowest rating the show has done in that category since January 23rd.

The show finished 4th for the night on cable, going head to head with the deciding Game 5 in the NHL’s Eastern Conference Final.

An update on upcoming WWE tryouts

More WWE tryouts are happening soon.

Bryan Alvarez is reporting that there are at least two other tryout events taking place this year.

“WWE tryouts coming up are Minneapolis for SummerSlam week, and South America in September,” he writes. The company held tryouts earlier this year in Orlando that included the likes of Marie Malenko, who signed with the company.

Back in April, WWE invited a slew of European talent for a tryout event. The exact date of this tryout isn’t known, but WWE is in Europe for a tour that lasts through next Monday’s Raw, which will take place in Paris, France. Other destinations include Libson, Madrid, Bologna, Rome, and Florence.

Notable names invited to the tryout include Leon Cage, Maddy Morgan, Daz Black, Madison Marley, Peter Tihanyi, and Kuro.

WWE developmental currently in a rebuilding period

WWE is looking to bolster their developmental ranks after calling up several wrestlers post-WrestleMania 42. WWE called up the likes of Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, Oba Femi, Trick Williams, Jordynne Grace, Blake Monroe, and Fatal Influence to the main roster, leaving NXT to refocus on building talent.

Some names that have been featured on NXT television include Mason Rook, Kam Hendrix, Lizzie Rain, and Naraku, the former EVIL.

AEW launches ‘Rebel Heart’ fundraiser to help those affected by ALS

AEW is showing its support for Rebel (Tanea Brooks) by launching a fundraiser to help those affected by ALS.

Amid a long health battle where doctors spent a long time unable to fully figure out what was wrong, Rebel announced this April that she has been diagnosed with ALS — a fatal neurodegenerative disease that has no cure. Organizations are working to hopefully change that in the future, and Rebel announced today that she’s joined the patient-led group I Am ALS as an ambassador. AEW has also started a “Rebel Heart” fundraiser to benefit I Am ALS and the Team Gleason ALS charity.

“Rebel Heart” T-shirts and bracelets are now available to purchase on Shop AEW, priced at $32 and $10. All of the profits will be donated to the two organizations AEW has partnered with.

Along with this fundraiser, Tony Khan has brought up the possibility of making AEW’s next Fight for the Fallen an event to benefit ALS research and help those suffering from the disease.

The 47-year-old Rebel has been with AEW since the promotion’s inaugural year and is best known to fans through the on-screen pairing she had with Britt Baker.

Today (June 2) is Lou Gehrig Day, which Major League Baseball celebrates every year to honor the New York Yankees legend and push toward a cure for ALS. The disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) became commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” after Gehrig died in 1941 at 37 years old.

Mick Foley open to possibility of having AEW match

Mick Foley isn’t closing the door on the idea of having one last match, but it would have to be the perfect scenario where all of the stars align.

The 60-year-old Foley appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show today to discuss the news that he has signed with AEW. He debuted as a broadcaster at Double or Nothing and views himself as a “Swiss army knife” who can help in a variety of ways. Foley could see himself as a manager — and he has even thought about the possibility of wrestling one more time.

“It’s definitely crossed my mind. You know, the cinematic matches have opened up the door for guys whose cardio may be suspect,” he joked. “But I’ll tell you what, this loss of 100 pounds has made my life so much easier. Like, I used to have to stop a couple times just walking up a moderate hill. And now I don’t even realize I’m walking up hills when I do them because I’m not really getting winded, not like I used to.

“I don’t know. I think that clearly if I had a match, it would have to be a match that would avoid trauma to the head. Luckily, there’s a whole lot of me to traumatize below the neck. So I think I have one last good match in me. I just believe — all the stars would have to align. All the stars would have to align. It would have to make sense.”

Along with losing 100 pounds, Foley has undergone hip and knee replacements that have greatly improved his quality of life. He does not want to do anything that would risk that. If he does wrestle again, he would need to come up with enough moves to have a good match without putting his health in too much jeopardy.

“If I can come up with enough of those type of moves that allow me to risk a little bit less while still giving fans a good match, and if I feel like I’m up to it, then maybe a couple of years down the road we will look into that,” Foley said. “Stranger things have happened.”

Mick Foley’s previous comeback attempt —

Back in 2024, Foley started the process of coming out of retirement for one last match in celebration of his 60th birthday in 2025. But he suffered a concussion while doing light training and quickly called off those plans.

AEW World Champion MJF was in strong consideration to be Foley’s opponent when he was planning that comeback. At Double or Nothing, while hosting the pre-show, there was an angle where Foley took a low blow from MJF. That would make sense as the matchup if Foley does wrestle for AEW, though his comments on The Ariel Helwani Show made it seem like an in-ring return is more of a possibility down the line rather than something that is particularly imminent.

Tony Khan has said that, if Foley does feel physically up to wrestling, he would love for Foley’s last match to be in AEW.

Mick Foley explains decision to cut ties with WWE

Mick Foley made the decision to cut ties with WWE so he could feel comfortable when looking at himself in the mirror.

Back in December 2025, Foley announced that he would not be renewing his WWE Legends contract when it expires this summer. He cited WWE’s “close relationship” with President Donald Trump as the reason and said Trump’s “incredibly cruel” comments about the death of director Rob Reiner (a frequent Trump critic) were the final straw.

Foley has now signed with AEW — and the 60-year-old Hardcore Legend appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show today to discuss that news. He also went into more detail about his WWE departure, saying he would have felt complicit in his silence if he continued representing WWE while Trump is in office.

“I just think WWE had a very cozy relationship where there was definitely the illusion of a relationship there — the perception, rather,” Foley said. “I think when five different people are posing in the Oval Office and they’ve all received Stone Cold Stunners, that’s a little cozy. And I felt like even though I wasn’t technically employed by the company, but because I had a Legends deal, because my name’s been associated with WWE for over 30 years, that I was complicit in my silence.

“And so I did speak up. I reached out to the head of talent relations, who I consider a friend, who I still write handwritten letters from Santa to every year… Basically, I give up the Legends deal. It runs out at the end of this month. I realized that by giving up two really easy, very high paying jobs at WrestleMania week for WWE that I had to work 24 hours on my own to make what I could’ve in six, and I’m okay with that.

“So I’m good with my decision. Everyone I think has to make a decision that’s right for them. And in my case, I just didn’t want to be in a position where my grandchildren are asking what their grandfather was doing when things were really, you know, tough. And I want my children to be able to say, ‘This is what grandpa did.’ So I made the move that I thought was right for me. I love that company. I’m not going to disparage them, but it didn’t seem like a good fit. Didn’t seem like a fit that would allow me to look at myself in the mirror before I went to bed.”

Foley said the head of talent relations told him that he respected his decision and would inform the people in charge. Though Foley did not hear from Paul “Triple H” Levesque or any members of the McMahon family, he did speak with an unnamed higher-up in WWE who tried to tell him that Levesque is only a member of Trump’s fitness council and that Linda McMahon, though a member of Trump’s cabinet, is not part of WWE. Foley did not fully agree with that, and he and the person he spoke with ended their conversation on respectful terms.

“I didn’t close the door forever,” Foley said. “I said in my announcement, you know, as long as [Trump’s] in office.”

Foley said he’s always been friends with independents and conservatives whose politics aren’t as progressive as his own. He believes it’s important to have two strong political parties in the United States, but Foley feels Trump is a different type of person who has acted in ways that are cruel and selfish.

Mick Foley on signing with AEW —

In the Helwani interview, Foley said he first met AEW boss Tony Khan 15 years ago and had a really good lunch with him long before Khan ever got into pro wrestling. Foley took a break from watching wrestling for a couple of years but then became a fan of AEW and would direct message with Khan some. But talks about Foley signing with the promotion didn’t start until months after he announced his decision to cut ties with WWE. The “nostalgia world” of conventions and one-man shows has been very kind to Foley financially, so that had been his focus.

Foley views himself as a “Swiss army knife” in AEW who can work as a broadcaster, help with publicity, and maybe even serve as a manager. He is not ruling out the possibility of having one last match in AEW but says the stars would have to align perfectly.

WWE schedules NXT Great American Bash for very busy pro wrestling date

Three major professional wrestling shows are set to take place on June 28.

AEW Forbidden Door and TNA Slammiversary were already scheduled for that date — and it’s now been announced that NXT Great American Bash is also happening on that Sunday. Great American Bash will go head-to-head with Forbidden Door, while Slammiversary avoids direct competition due to its afternoon start time.

Great American Bash begins at 7 p.m. Eastern time on June 28. It’s the first NXT PLE that will air live on The CW as part of a new multi-year PLE deal between the sides. The CW already airs NXT every week and is now carrying PLEs on its broadcast channel as well.

“Everybody’s been asking me, ‘When is the first PLE on The CW Network?’ Well, that’s what this announcement is for. June 28, CW Network and NXT are going to bring you Great American Bash,” NXT boss Shawn Michaels announced. “This partnership is moving forward and the Great American Bash on June 28 will have a special start time of 7 p.m.”

Peacock was previously home to these NXT events, but that deal expired prior to Stand & Deliver 2026, which aired on YouTube while WWE was still working out where NXT PLEs would land.

Great American Bash, Forbidden Door & Slammiversary details —

A location for Great American Bash was not mentioned in today’s announcement, so it will presumably be held at the WWE Performance Center. Forbidden Door and Slammiversary are respectively taking place in San Jose, California and Boston, Massachusetts.

The listed start time for Forbidden Door ticket holders is the same as Great American Bash (7 p.m. Eastern), while Slammiversary is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

WWE Night of Champions is set for this weekend as well, with that PLE happening in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, June 27.

AEW reveals date for Grand Slam Mexico 2026

AEW is officially heading back to Mexico City this summer for a special episode of Dynamite.

It was confirmed today that AEW Grand Slam Mexico 2026 will take place live from Arena Mexico on Wednesday, August 5. The announcement was made by Fox Sports MX, which is airing the event in Mexico. The show will be broadcast in the United States on TBS and HBO Max.

Tickets are going on sale this Saturday (June 6) at 10 a.m. Central time. AEW World Champion MJF, Andrade El Idolo, Thunder Rosa, and Bandido are featured on AEW’s advertising graphic for the show, along with dual-contracted AEW/CMLL stars Mistico and Mascara Dorada.

AEW and CMLL have become close partners, and this will be the second year Arena Mexico — CMLL’s home venue in Mexico City — has played host to AEW action. The inaugural Grand Slam Mexico was held in June 2025 and performed very well in the television ratings.

Upcoming AEW calendar —

On the AEW calendar, Grand Slam Mexico is happening not long after the company’s July 26 Redemption pay-per-view that’s being held in Montreal. AEW will then be in Detroit for Dynamite and Collision on July 29-30 before heading to Mexico the following Wednesday.

A trip to the United Kingdom is scheduled for late August with Wembley Stadium hosting All In on August 30.

Before all of this, AEW has Forbidden Door set for San Jose, California on June 28. That PPV is being presented in partnership with NJPW, CMLL, and Stardom.

Kevin Nash praises La Parka, WCW luchadores: ‘All those guys were sweethearts’

Kevin Nash enjoyed working alongside the talented group of luchadores that were brought into WCW in the 1990s.

On his Kliq This podcast this week, Nash was asked if La Parka — a Wrestling Observer Hall of Famer primarily for his work in Mexico — was considered a top star in WCW. Nash responded by praising La Parka and all of the WCW luchadores as “sweethearts” that everyone got along with.

“He was definitely [a top star] as far as the Latin crew. He was one of the top guys. He was a good f***ing dude,” Nash said about La Parka. “I mean, everybody got along with him. But all those guys were sweethearts. So there wasn’t one of them that was a dick.”

Nash, on a past edition of Kliq This, said he remembers working one or two tag matches against La Parka when they were in WCW together. Nash thought Eric Bischoff’s idea of having the first hour of Nitro feature “car crash” cruiserweight matches was brilliant, especially when Nitro was three hours. Viewers weren’t going to turn the channel during those matches, and WCW could hype up what was going to happen later in the night.

Adolfo Tapia Ibarra as La Parka/LA Park —

The original LA Parka was played by Adolfo Tapia Ibarra, who still competes today under the name LA Park. Tapia lost the rights to the La Parka name due to a trademark dispute, with Jesus Huerta Escoboza becoming AAA’s second version of La Parka before passing away in 2020 following an in-ring accident. A third iteration of La Parka now wrestles for AAA and has made a couple of WWE main roster appearances since WWE’s acquisition of the lucha libre company.

When WWE accidentally used an image of the original La Parka to advertise a match last year, Tapia said he is not interested in joining a major American promotion again.

“I prefer to fight for my Mexican people than to return to a large company in the United States,” he wrote. “I’m staying here in Mexico.”

After his WCW stint, original La Parka’s most extensive work in the United States was his 2018-2022 MLW run where he was positioned as one of the top stars of MLW’s revival. That run included one MLW Tag Team title reign with his sons El Hijo de LA Park and LA Park Jr. Their Los Parks faction was fired from MLW in 2022 due to going off-script and getting too rough during a brawl with Jacob Fatu and Alex Hammerstone.

JBL calls Chad Gable ‘best wrestler in the world’

Shockwaves from AAA’s mask vs. mask match between the Grande Americanos last weekend continue to reverberate throughout the wrestling world. And one of the announcers on the call that night says that match, and one participant in particular, represent the best that wrestling has to offer.

John “Bradshaw”Layfield was on the mic as El Grando Americano defeated Original Grande Americano on Saturday night in Monterrey, Mexico. The Original then unmasked and identified himself as Chad Gable.

JBL didn’t mince words when discussing the match in an appearance on Busted Open Radio

“I think Chad Gable’s the best wrestler in the world,” Layfield said. “And I don’t think it’s close. That was absolutely amazing, what he and [Ludwig] Kaiser did.”

Layfield was also impressed with how Gable changed his character to work in front of a new audience.

“It’s easy to be kind of a campy heel like he was in WWE with the videos with the Varsity Club or whatever the heck it was,” Layfield said, momentarily forgetting the name of the Alpha Academy. “But then all of a sudden to try to get heat down in Mexico, that’s different level. It’s not even the same business. He had a match down there with La Parka that was just phenomenal.”

JBL was also quick to praise Ludwig Kaiser, the man behind the El Grande Americano mask.

“Kaiser created all this,” he said. “Kaiser created all this with learning the language. Not just learning the language—as we used to say in Texas, he wasn’t learning Spanish, he was learning Mexican. The local dialect was what he was learning, which was absolutely amazing, what he’s done.”

Of course, the AAA fans themselves played a big part in the night’s success.

“Mexican fans are just passionate fans,” Layfield said. “They love their lucha libre, and they love their stars, and they get into things, and they enjoy it. And that’s what you saw, them at their very best. And I thought you saw wrestling at its very best. I was absolutely blown away by what they did in the match.”

AAA announces sponsorship deal with Ram trucks

Fresh off their biggest match since they were purchased by WWE, AAA has announced they will be sponsored by some big vehicles.

WWE announced in a press release that Ram is now the “Official Truck Partner” of AAA.

For viewers, this means the Ram logo will be shown on the ring mat and in “key jumbotron placements” at AAA events. The press release specifically mentioned the TripleMania show in Mexico City on Sunday, September 13.

The press release identified Mark “Undertaker” Calaway as AAA’s executive producer. “This partnership with Ram marks an exciting step forward for AAA as we to continue to grow and collaborate with world-class brands to elevate the experience for our passionate fans,” it quotes Undertaker as saying. “Together, we share a commitment to authenticity and passion, while celebrating the energy and spirit that makes lucha libre so special in Mexico.”

Ram had already been named the official truck of WWE, UFC, and PBR rodeo last December

On Saturday night in Arena Monterrey, El Grande Americano defeated Original Grande Americano in a mask vs. mask match. Original Grande Americano then took his mask off, identified himself as Chad Gable, declared that the winner was the only Grande Americano, and vowed to return to AAA under the Gable name.

Mike Santana’s TNA contract reportedly set to expire this summer

The TNA World Champion could potentially be a free agent soon.

PWInsider reported on Monday that Mike Santana’s contract is expected to expire sometime in July. It was noted that WWE has shown interest in him before, and has made several appearances on NXT thanks to TNA’s relationship with WWE.

Santana’s recent breakout into singles success

Santana broke into wrestling in 2007. Early in his career he was part of a successful tag team with Ortiz, and together the two enjoyed success both in TNA and later in AEW. Santana, however, asked for his AEW release in 2024, choosing to branch out as a singles wrestler elsewhere. He signed with TNA shortly thereafter and the following year, defeated Trick Williams to win his first TNA World title at Bound for Glory.

Since TNA and WWE officially announced their partnership, Santana has made several appearances on the brand, including taking part in the NXT vs. TNA Showdown special event that took place last year. His most recent match in NXT had him team with OTM to defeat DarkState at NXT’s recent show at the Madison Square Garden theatre.

Chad Gable announces doucumentary series on injury recovery

Chad Gable is talking about his recent recovery.

The WWE star announced on social media Monday that a nine-part YouTube documentary series will begin airing this Friday.

“I’ve spent my entire career preaching discipline, preparation, and accountability. Then I got hurt. For the first time in my professional wrestling career, I was forced to stop and figure out who I am when the thing I’ve built my life around gets taken away. So I’m bringing you with me,” he wrote.

“Starting this Friday, follow my 9-part YouTube series as I rebuild from the ground up through rehab, training, nutrition, setbacks, victories, and everything in between. New episodes every Friday. No shortcuts. No excuses. No pretending every day is a good day. Just the work. Subscribe now to my YouTube channel and I’ll see you Friday.”

Shoulder injury kept Gable out of action for most of last year

Gable suffered a shoulder injury in June of last year that required significant time away from the ring. He returned in January at the Royal Rumble, now calling himself the Original El Grande Americano to feud with the current Grande Americano.

Their feud gained momentum in AAA, building to a mask vs. mask match that took place this past weekend at AAA Noche de los Grandes. Gable lost, forcing himself to unmask and reveal his identity. He told fans that he couldn’t overcome the Mexican spirit promised that someday he’d be back in AAA.
