NJPW Best of the Super Juniors semifinals set

A dozen names entered the last day of block action still in contention, but NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 33 is now down to its final four wrestlers.

Both semifinal matches are set to pit tag team partners against each other. It will be Master Wato vs. YOH and Robbie Eagles vs. Kosei Fujita this Friday (June 5). The winners advance to the finals on Sunday (June 7), with that bout determining the tournament winner and the next challenger for IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion DOUKI.

Wato defeated Nick Wayne today to finish on 12 points as the A Block winner. Fujita defeated Daiki Nagai to claim second place in the block, also finishing on 12 points and beating out Francesco Akira due to a tiebreaker.

All of the B Block contenders won their matches today, but it was Eagles and YOH — with respective victories over Hyo and Daisuke Sasaki — who advanced as the top two after tiebreakers were worked out. The block ended in a five-way tie at 12 points.

Fujita is looking to repeat as the BOSJ winner after defeating YOH in last year’s finals. Wato is also looking to claim a second BOSJ trophy after winning the tournament in 2023.

Friday’s show begins at 5:30 a.m. Eastern time and is airing live on NJPW World with English and Japanese commentary. The rest of the card aside from Wato vs. YOH and Eagles vs. Fujita has not been announced yet.

There is a seven-way tie at the top of A Block following the conclusion of Tuesday’s event at Korakuen Hall. Jun Kasai, Master Wato, Robbie X, Kosei Fujita, Titan, Francesco Akira, and Nick Wayne all enter the last day of block action with a chance to advance. The B Block standings got a little tighter on Thursday as night eight of Best of the Super Juniors 2025 took place in Osaka.

With a loss to Taiji Ishimori, Nick Wayne was unable to build on his lead at the top of the block. He is still in first place with eight points, but the gap is tight. There are now eight wrestlers tied for second place with six points. SHO is in sole possession of last place with four points.

For the second straight night at Korakuen Hall, Hiromu Takahashi took a loss in the main event of NJPW Best of the Super Juniors.

Night four of the tournament was headlined by Francesco Akira defeating Takahashi to improve his record to 2-1. Takahashi is now 1-2 with losses to Akira and Kosei Fujita.

Akira used a new Ground Tarantula submission to get the win against Takahashi. With Takahashi having no faction at the moment following Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI’s NJPW departures, Akira extended an offer after the match for him to join United Empire. A frustrated Takahashi continued heading backstage despite the offer.

Taiji Ishimori and KUSHIDA maintained their perfect B Block records as night four of NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 31 took place on Thursday.

NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 31 night one results, initial standings

On Saturday, this year’s NJPW Best of the Super Juniors kicked off with a full slate of matches.

This is the 31st edition of the junior heavyweight tournament. Both A Block and B Block were in action with night one being held in Chiba. The card included KUSHIDA and Hiromu Takahashi renewing their rivalry as KUSHIDA began the tournament with a victory.

If IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion SHO doesn’t win the tournament, the winner will receive a shot at his title. A trophy is also awarded to the BOSJ winner.

The next show is on Monday (May 13), again with both blocks in action.

Finals set for NJPW Best of the Super Juniors

It will be Hiromu Takahashi vs. El Desperado in this year’s Best of the Super Juniors finals.

Takahashi and El Desperado will meet in the Best of the Super Juniors finals at Budokan Hall in Tokyo this Friday (June 3), with the winner likely getting an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship shot against Taiji Ishimori at Dominion on Sunday, June 12.

Takahashi emerged as the A Block winner on the final night of block action on Tuesday, while Desperado came out of the night as the winner of the B Block.

Takahashi won the A Block with a victory over Ishimori in the main event of Tuesday’s show. Ishimori entered the day with 12 points and Takahashi entered with 10, but Takahashi defeating Ishimori meant that Takahashi advanced due to holding the tiebreaker.

Desperado also advanced via tiebreaker after defeating El Phantasmo at Tuesday’s show. Desperado needed help from Titan, who defeated Robbie Eagles to eliminate Eagles from contention.

In 2020, Takahashi defeated Desperado in the Best of the Super Juniors finals.

NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 28 updated standings

Block action in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors 28 concluded today in Hyogo and the finals are set. 

Hiromu Takahashi and YOH will battle on Wednesday, December 15 to determine the tournament winner. 

With a win, Hiromu would join Koji Kanemoto as the only three-time winners of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament. Jushin Liger won BOSJ twice, and also won a prior iteration of the tournament when it was known as Top of the Super Juniors. 

Seven of the twelve competitors in this year’s tournament finished with a winning record. 

Wednesday’s show will also include the finals of World Tag League. The full card for the show will be announced at a later date.
