WWE legend Steve Austin picks up off-road racing win

WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin picked up a victory outside of the ring this month when he competed at an off-road racing event.

Auto company Kawasaki sent out a social media post today congratulating Austin for finishing first in the Stock Mod Pro category at the Prospector 250, a race that Vorra Off-Road Racing held in Nevada last weekend. The results have Austin finishing eighth overall out of the 45 riders with a finish time of five hours and 45 minutes, beating out the only other Stock Mod racer who came in at six hours and 10 minutes.

Off-road racing has become one of Austin’s biggest passions, and his preparation for the Prospector 250 meant that he was unable to appear on the March 16 edition of WWE Raw. It took 6-7 months in total to build the race car that Austin drove. The name of his team is “Broken Skull Racing.” Fittingly, Austin uses “316” as his number.

“We just got finished running the race, a 250-mile race called the Prospector 250 in Yerington, Nevada. We came in first in our class and eighth overall out of 45 cars,” Austin said in an Instagram video. “My class was only two cars deep, so I came in first. But the biggest takeaway from that was eighth overall out of 45 cars. And we will have more cars in my class at the next race.”

Austin will be at the WWE World convention in Las Vegas during WrestleMania 42 weekend this April, so it’s possible that he could be making some kind of appearance at WrestleMania itself. Austin recently told Busted Open Radio that he doesn’t get the itch to wrestle anymore but does like to come back for moments.

The last time Austin competed in the ring was at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, when he came out of retirement for a no holds barred match against Kevin Owens.

Eddie Kingston on in-ring return: ‘I finally have a little peace in my life’

Being back in the ring has brought AEW star Eddie Kingston some peace in his life.

In 2024, Kingston suffered a broken leg and torn ACL that kept him away from the ring for more than a year. He returned in September 2025 but recently had to miss some shows last month due to severe migraines. Kingston is now back in action again and will be in Canada tonight for Ring of Honor & Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling’s Global Wars event.

Kingston spoke with The Takedown on SI ahead of the show and addressed what it’s been like to return after his leg injury caused such a long layoff.

“Oh I love it. I finally have a little peace in my life, believe it or not,” he said. “Being in the ring brings me peace and all that chaos in the ring and fighting in the ring brings me peace. It is what it is, you know what I mean.

“So having that in my life is great, but nah it’s normal, it’s the same old stuff. I don’t get paid to wrestle, I would wrestle for free. I get paid for everything else before the ring. But that’s all the same, that’s all the same, but I’m back where I’m meant to be in the ring.”

Tonight’s Global Wars show will see Kingston & Ortiz team up against Adam Priest & Tommy Billington. Along with their on-screen partnership, Kingston & Ortiz are planning to open a wrestling school. Kingston told The Takedown on SI that he has difficulty seeing himself as an inspiration to the younger generation. He does not view himself at the same level as his heroes like Terry Funk, Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, or Eddie Gilbert.

“I tell them, ‘Don’t look up to me. It took me 18 years, what are you nuts?’ Don’t do what I do, let me crash out, let me yell, let me scream, let me do all that, let me be a pain in the ass,” Kingston said about his advice for younger wrestlers. “You do the opposite of me and you’ll be okay.

“Look, you can do it my way, it’s just gonna be hard. And you’re gonna make it harder on yourself, but you’re gonna have your morals, you’re gonna take your stand and you’re gonna die on your hill or hills. I’m learning how to take that ‘s’ out of the equation and just have a hill. It’s like I wake up in the morning and say, ‘Which hill is it today?'”

Kingston said his remaining goals in wrestling include winning the AEW World Championship and Tag Team titles, along with wrestling at Budokan Hall in Japan.

Former Gallus member completes WWE NXT guest-coaching stint

Former Gallus member Mark Coffey was back at the WWE Performance Center this week for a guest-coaching stint.

In an Instagram post, Coffey shared that he had a “fantastic” time returning to NXT as a guest coach. He’s now flown back home to Scotland to compete for Insane Championship Wrestling in a match against Saxon Huxley this Sunday.

“Fantastic time coaching this week at The WWE PC for @wwenxt,” Coffey wrote while sharing photos of himself with NXT coach Johnny Moss and other personnel.

Coffey, his brother Joe Coffey, and Wolfgang spent several years with WWE before being released in May 2025. They competed on NXT and NXT UK during their time with the company, with Mark holding the NXT UK Tag Team titles and Heritage Cup Championship. Behind the scenes, all three members of Gallus helped work with The Rock as he trained for his in-ring return at WrestleMania 40.

It was recently announced that the Coffey brothers and Wolfgang have signed with MLW, where they will now be using “GBOT” (Gallus Boys on Top) as their faction name.

The WWE Performance Center also had another visitor this week with Ricky Morton, a tag team legend as one-half of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, guest coaching.

This weekend, much of the NXT roster is on the road for a house show loop in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas that began last night.

Will Ospreay set for NJPW return

Will Ospreay is back in action — and he’s now set to return to the NJPW ring.

In his first match in Japan in more than two years, Ospreay will reunite with United Empire stablemates Great-O-Khan & HENARE for a six-man tag match at NJPW Sakura Genesis on April 4. They’ll be facing off against Yuya Uemura, Taichi & El Desperado.

Ospreay underwent neck surgery in 2025 and spent several months sidelined until returning at AEW Revolution. His comeback match took place on Dynamite last week, with Ospreay defeating Blake Christian. Ospreay is now set to take on Jon Moxley at AEW’s Dynasty pay-per-view next month.

During his injury layoff, Ospreay said that — while AEW is his home base — he was hoping to be able to wrestle for NJPW a few times per year once he was cleared to return. He made an appearance at NJPW New Year Dash 2026 and had a tense interaction with Callum Newman, who is now the leader of United Empire.

The main event of Sakura Genesis will see Newman challenge Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Newman earned the title shot through winning this year’s New Japan Cup.

With the addition of this six-man tag match, the card for Sakura Genesis is now finalized. The show is being held at Sumo Hall in Tokyo and will air live on NJPW World.

    • Today we released the last episode of the AEW Unrestricted podcast. I’ve been crying on and off about it for a few weeks, but I’m smiling listening to it this morning. Updated WWE SmackDown preview for March 27

WWE has made a couple of new announcements — and an apparent adjustment to the card — for this week’s episode of SmackDown.

– SmackDown is taking place from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh this Friday night. WWE has announced that Randy Orton will appear on the show, with the company teasing that Orton will be looking for a new target after his recent attacks on Cody Rhodes and Matt Cardona. Orton is now just a few weeks away from challenging Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.

WWE.com wrote:

  • Just one week after savagely attacking his former friend and brother, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton unleashed another vicious assault on Matt Cardona. Which Superstar will The Legend Killer ambush next?
  • Don’t miss all the action of SmackDown, Friday at 8 ET/7 CT on USA.

– Though not official yet, a match between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre is expected to be added to the WrestleMania card soon. The build to that will continue on SmackDown with general manager Nick Aldis addressing the status of both wrestlers after last week’s show-closing angle where Fatu and McIntyre crashed off of a ledge while brawling.

– It was initially announced that Tiffany Stratton would challenge Giulia for the Women’s United States Championship on SmackDown. That looks to have changed with WWE.com now advertising Giulia vs. Stratton as a “non-title showdown.”

Here is the full preview for the show:

WWE SmackDown (Friday, March 27) —

  • Who will Randy Orton attack next?
  • Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss vs. The Bella Twins
  • Nick Aldis gives an update on the condition of Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre
  • Jelly Roll vs. Kit Wilson
  • Non-title match: Women’s United States Champion Giulia vs. Tiffany Stratton

Report: Madison Square Garden to host upcoming WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

This summer, WWE could be bringing Saturday Night’s Main Event to Madison Square Garden in New York City.

WrestleVotes reports that WWE is planning for a Saturday Night’s Main Event special to be held at the “World’s Most Famous Arena” on July 18. That date would coincide with Fanatics Fest 2026, a convention in NYC that WWE and its stars are involved with.

The SNME date has not been officially announced by WWE yet, but that could change soon. WWE will be at MSG for Raw next Monday (March 30) and at The Theater at MSG for NXT on Tuesday (March 31).

Though SNME is a classic WWE program dating back to the 1980s, it has only ever been held at MSG once before: a 2007 episode during the show’s brief revival. It returned again in December 2024 and now airs live on Peacock a few times per year.

Fort Wayne, Indiana will host the next SNME event on WWE’s calendar. That show is being held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on May 23.

During his retirement tour, John Cena spoke about how happy he is that MSG is once again becoming a significant arena for WWE. Because of the costs involved, there was a period where WWE largely avoided running televised events at the venue. Raw and SmackDown now make regular stops at MSG, and this would be WWE’s first streaming special there since 2015.

Netflix executive teases more WWE crossovers

Netflix executive Bela Bajaria is excited to work with WWE on more cross-promotional opportunities.

On a new episode of Stephanie McMahon’s “What’s Your Story?” podcast, Bajaria discussed the WWE-Netflix relationship and how much she’s enjoyed collaborating with WWE’s talent. That’s included Seth Rollins appearing as a pundit on some of Netflix’s event coverage and WWE stars being brought to MLB’s opening night.

Bajaria, who is Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, teased that there are more crossovers like this to come, pointing to Raw’s “Stranger Things Night” as another successful collaboration.

“The WWE partnership has been incredible,” she said. “And I think what you all have created there, too, which I see when we work with your talent — when Seth comes to our events, or John Cena is in a movie, they really have this, like, community connection. They care so much. They’re so positive, and they [have] this work ethic, and they have this real joy that they bring to fans and audiences. So what I love is they’re so good at that.

“So when they come to our events, they just are like, ‘We want to make everybody feel [good].’ I go, ‘You’re all so good at this.’ But really, the partnership, again, just wanting to like, continue with this, having the storytelling that touches people and then surprises them and takes them on a journey is — you all do it so incredibly well.

“So I think it has been such a great partnership. And I’m excited for, like, more things. You know, ‘Stranger Things’ was this year, but there’s more things to continue to do together.”

McMahon added that she believes some of WWE’s talent can be used to help promote Netflix overseas.

“Especially internationally, too,” McMahon said. “And so many of our talent are native to other countries as well. As you’re building, there’s so much opportunity.”

Netflix became the broadcast home of WWE Raw in January 2025, with the WWE PLE library now also available on the streaming platform. Outside of the United States, Netflix offers a wider array of WWE programming including live PLEs.

It was announced today that Netflix will also carry the upcoming “Kill Tony: WrestleMania” comedy special. Hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe, it’s taking place in Las Vegas on April 18 and will be available to watch on Netflix starting on April 20.

‘Kill Tony: WrestleMania’ special to air on Netflix

Fans not attending WrestleMania 42 weekend will still have the chance to watch Tony Hinchcliffe’s WWE-themed comedy special.

It was announced via Variety today that “Kill Tony: WrestleMania” will stream on Netflix. The special will not air live but will be available to watch starting on Monday, April 20, which is the same day Netflix is broadcasting the post-WrestleMania 42 episode of Raw.

This is the second straight year that Hinchcliffe — who is a big pro wrestling fan — and WWE have partnered together for a WrestleMania weekend event. When Hinchcliffe’s “Roast of WrestleMania” happened in 2025, it was billed as a closed-doors event that would not be broadcast anywhere. Audio of the entire show did end up getting leaked online, with some of the jokes generating controversy.

“Kill Tony” is a podcast Hinchcliffe hosts where aspiring comedians get the chance to perform in front of Hinchcliffe and other comedy veterans. He and Netflix have already partnered together for multiple specials in the past.

At this WrestleMania weekend event, Hinchcliffe will be joined by current WWE stars and legends, other comedians, and surprise guests. It’s being held at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Saturday, April 18 after the first night of WrestleMania 42.

WWE wrote about the event:

  • KILL TONY, known for its unpredictable format, rising comedic talents and no-holds-barred humor, will feature a mix of WWE Superstars and Legends, established comedians and surprise celebrity guests, while blending rapid-fire standup sets from aspiring comedians with sharp and often brutal feedback from Hinchcliffe and his panel of guests.

Bad News Brown joins WWE Hall of Fame class of 2026

Bad News Brown, an Olympian who found pro wrestling success in multiple countries, is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

It was announced today that Bad News Brown (real name Allen Coage) has joined the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2026. The ceremony is being held in Las Vegas on Friday, April 17 during WrestleMania 42 weekend. Stephanie McMahon, AJ Styles, Demolition (Ax & Smash), Dennis Rodman, and Sid Vicious are the other inductees that have been confirmed so far.

Like Vicious, Brown is a Legacy Award winner, which is how WWE honors inductees who have passed away. Brown, 63, died of a heart attack in 2007.

Brown entered pro wrestling after an accomplished judo career that saw him win a bronze medal for the United States at the 1976 Olympics. He started with New Japan Pro-Wrestling shortly after that and later competed for Stampede Wrestling in Canada and the WWF back in the US. He went by both “Bad News Brown” and “Bad News Allen” in pro wrestling.

While with WWF, Brown competed at three WrestleManias, including winning a battle royal at WrestleMania IV in 1988.

“From standing on the podium at the 1976 Summer Olympics to the center of the ring at #WrestleMania IV, Bad News Brown was a fierce competitor with an attitude to match,” Paul “Triple H” Levesque tweeted. “For his accomplishments in combat sports and contributions to @WWE, it is a pleasure to announce his induction into the 2026 Legacy Class of the #WWEHOF.”

Dolby Live at Park MGM in Vegas will be the venue for the Hall of Fame ceremony.

NJPW grants CMLL wrestler permission to use Black Tiger gimmick

CMLL wrestler Magnus is officially adopting a classic NJPW gimmick.

On this week’s edition of CMLL Informa, it was revealed that Magnus will now be going by the name “Black Tiger.” He is the ninth wrestler to don the mask, which was originally introduced in the 1980s as a rival to Tiger Mask. The character has been portrayed by the likes of Mark Rocco, Eddie Guerrero, and Rocky Romero.

NJPW chairman Naoki Sugabayashi appeared on Informa and gave the character change his blessing. This comes after Magnus wore the Black Tiger mask during this year’s NJPW & CMLL Fantasticamania tour. The final night of the tour included a singles match where Tiger Mask defeated Magnus.

Along with competing in CMLL, Magnus has made appearances for AEW/ROH and MLW. He is a former MLW Tag Team Champion and recently wrestled at MLW’s TV taping in Atlanta on March 14.

The babyface Tiger Mask character in NJPW is currently played by Yoshihiro Yamazaki, who will be retiring from the ring this July. He is the fourth iteration of Tiger Mask, following Satoru Sayama, Mitsuharu Misawa, and Koji Kanemoto.

Zack Sabre Jr. match set for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XV

The card for Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XV is now up to six confirmed bouts.

NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. battling indie wrestler Ray Jaz is the latest matchup announced for the April 17 show in Las Vegas. Promoted by Barnett and Game Changer Wrestling, Bloodsport is taking place on the Friday of WrestleMania week and will air live on Triller TV+.

Barnett hyped up the Sabre vs. Jaz match:

  • Two grapplers, who have forged their destinies on the mats, not above them. One a submission master, who can take anything you GIVE to them, and TAKE everything away from YOU. The other, a hard-nosed, east coast born and bred, collegiate wrestler with a mean streak, and the kind of viciousness you find more on the streets than on the mats. Only one will stand victorious, the other will be left picking up the pieces of their body. Zack Sabre Jr. vs Ray Jaz at Josh Barnett’s: Bloodsport XV.

Sabre is also scheduled for GCW’s Big Gay Brunch event in Vegas on April 18, where he will be taking on Effy.

In NJPW, Sabre and his TMDK partner Ryohei Oiwa are challenging OSKAR & Yuto-Ice for the IWGP Tag Team titles at Sakura Genesis on April 4.

The start time for Bloodsport will be 3 p.m. Pacific/6 p.m. Eastern. Here is the currently announced lineup:

Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XV (Friday, April 17) —

  • Pete Dunne vs. Masashi Takeda
  • Charlie Dempsey vs. Timothy Thatcher
  • Ulka Sasaki vs. Joe Dashou
  • Angel Verduzco vs. Matt Mako
  • Royce Isaacs vs. Shane Mercer
  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Ray Jaz
  • Also set to compete: Josh Barnett, Nattie, Yuji Nagata, Shayna Baszler, Erick Stevens, Fuminori Abe, Miyu Yamashita

AEW Unrestricted ends, update on future podcast plans

Unrestricted, AEW’s weekly podcast since 2020, has wrapped up its run.

The final episode of AEW Unrestricted premiered today with hosts Aubrey Edwards and Will Washington looking back at the show’s six-year existence. It produced more than 300 episodes, focusing on interviews with AEW talent and pay-per-view preview. Edwards and Washington said they are not going anywhere and will remain very busy in their other AEW roles.

Unrestricted was presented in partnership with TNT/TBS and was sponsored by trading card company Upper Deck.

Edwards said ending the podcast is bittersweet, but this felt like the right time to close the chapter on Unrestricted. She and Washington noted that AEW has plans to develop other podcast content that fans will be excited for:

  • Washington: That’s not to say that this is the end of podcasts with AEW.
  • Edwards: No, not at all.
  • Washington: It’s actually the opposite, right? Where there is going to be more podcast content coming from All Elite Wrestling. Don’t fret. There is more and more content. And it’s like content that we’ve all talked about for years and stuff that fans have really been asking for.
  • Edwards: It’s exciting stuff. It’s exciting stuff. The little bit that I’ve heard is pretty great.

When Unrestricted first launched, Edwards and Tony Schiavone were its hosts. She took a moment on the final episode to thank Schiavone for giving her the chance to be part of the show.

“I am so grateful for this time,” Edwards said. “I texted Tony Schiavone last night and I just said, ‘Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a podcast host for six years.’ Which is never something I expected. Like, I didn’t even expect to be in this business. My dream was never to be a referee. I didn’t start watching wrestling until like 2012. And the fact that I got to do this every week, I’m just so grateful. I’m just really freaking grateful, man.”

Edwards and Washington both work behind the scenes in AEW, with Edwards also having an on-screen role as a referee. Washington’s backstage job title is Wrestling Administration Coordinator. He already had podcast experience prior to joining AEW in 2023, including hosting the show Grapsody.

  • Joe Coffey spoke to The Takedown on SI:
    • We are the GBOT. It stands for a lot of things, but it’s Glasgow Boys on Top. We’re from Glasgow, and that’s the mentality we have. I’ve done my time, just playing my part and being a good soldier. You know, Killer Kross, I’m not really interested in him. I’m interested in what he’s got around his waist [the MLW World Heavyweight Championship], to be honest.
    • But, like him, we have a familiarity, GBOT. It means one thing: I’m not here to just play a part. I’m here to really establish myself and who I am, because before my time for the past couple of years that I’ve had in other companies, I was a world-traveling superstar. I was wrestling people from Hall of Famers to world champions. I’m not here just to make up any numbers. I’m here to show what Joe Coffey is all about and what I can do, and I’ll be leaving my mark as well.

Leon Slater says John Cena WWE retirement show was ‘best day of my life’

December 13, 2025 was the best day of Leon Slater’s life so far.

The 21-year-old TNA X-Division Champion got to compete on John Cena’s retirement show on that date, teaming with Je’Von Evans in a loss to AJ Styles & Dragon Lee. Slater reflected on the moment during an appearance on the Battleground podcast and discussed how much it meant for him to represent TNA at such a big WWE event.

“It was a mad one, you know? It was really, really wild because it was — it almost feels like a dream when I look back on it, you know what I mean? Again, I repeat myself, but I have to pinch myself to confirm that was real. Let alone being a WWE superstar and being on that card, because I think there was four or five matches. So if we’re talking about spots available, we’re talking 10-15 maximum, on such an iconic night.

“I was saying to my friends and like my family, WrestleMania happens every year, SummerSlam happens every year. And that doesn’t take away from how huge that is, but there’s only one John Cena and there’s only one John Cena retirement show. So the fact that I don’t even work there and I was on John Cena’s last show as the X-Division Champion coming out with it around my neck representing my brand and my people, it was something that I hold very, very close to my heart. And it’s something I’m very, very proud of.”

With current WWE stars and legends like Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, and The Undertaker there, the entire night was surreal for Slater. It felt like everyone to ever exist in wrestling was at the show.

“So to be surrounded by that, and then to have the match that we had, it was a dream come true,” Slater said. “Especially with it being AJ and having Je’Von and Dragon there as well. It really was — it was the best day of my life, man. I’ll be real, it was great.”

Having the support of people like The Hardys means a lot to Slater, but he told the Battleground podcast that he doesn’t feel any extra pressure because of it. Ever since he started wrestling, he has visualized himself as being in this spot. He wants to become the greatest of all time and “complete wrestling” by going everywhere and doing everything possible.

Slater said his dream match at the moment is a bout against TNA World Champion Mike Santana. He views himself and Santana as being the top two wrestlers in TNA over the past several months and thinks a match between them is inevitable, whether it’s for Santana’s title or his own.

“I feel like, for me, that’s a match that has to happen this year so we can see who’s the best that TNA really has,” Slater said.
