Megan Bayne to wrestle singles match at upcoming CMLL event

An injury in AEW has resulted in changes for CMLL.

Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford were scheduled to wrestle as a team this Friday at CMLL’s La Noche de Las Amazonas (literally, “Night of the Amazons”), an all-women’s show. Ford, however, suffered an ankle injury against the Babes of Wrath on AEW Dynamite last week. Though the injury is not believed to be severe, it is going to keep her off of this weekend’s card.

Instead, Megan Bayne will wrestle a singles match against Olympia. It will be Bayne’s debut in CMLL, her first match in Mexico, and the first time she has wrestled Olympia.

Mina Shirakawa will also be in Mexico City, facing Zeuxis. This will be Shirakawa’s second appearance in Mexico, and technically the second time she has faced Zeuxis. Both wrestlers took part in the 18-woman Team Mexico vs. Team World Torneo Cibernetico at CMLL International Women’s Grand Prix at Arena Mexico last October.

Olympia and Zeuxis have each appeared on AEW television a handful of times. Zeuxis wrestled a pair of matches against Mercedes Mone, losing both: once in an unsuccessful challenge for Mone’s AEW TBS Championship last June, and then losing the CMLL World Women’s Championship the next week at Grand Slam Mexico.

Olympia then had a win over Taya Valkyrie last October before losing a challenge for Mone’s CMLL World Women’s Championship a week later.

The card so far for La Noche de Las Amazonas:

  • CMLL World Women’s Championship Match: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Persephone
  • CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Starlight Kid Mei Seira vs. Las Chicas Indomables (Lluvia & La Jarochita)
  • Copa Irma González 2026 Marcela vs. Princesa Sugehit vs. La Magnifica
  • Megan Bayne vs. Olympia
  • Zeuxis vs. Mina Shirakawa
  • Garra Negra & Keyra vs. La Catalina & Sanely

AEW wrestler announced for CMLL women’s Grand Prix

Mina Shirakawa is heading to Mexico next month to compete in the CMLL women’s Gran Prix.

The annual Grand Prix is an elimination match pitting Team Mexico against Team World. Last night, CMLL announced the first participants with Zeuxis set for Team Mexico and Shirakawa representing AEW as part of Team World. More entrants will be announced in the coming weeks ahead of the Grand Prix being held at Arena Mexico on October 24.

Shirakawa officially joined AEW on a full-time basis earlier this year following her departure from Stardom. She headlined ROH’s Death Before Dishonor event last Friday, unsuccessfully challenging Athena for the ROH Women’s World Championship.

Currently, Shirakawa is the interim ROH Women’s TV Champion with Red Velvet sidelined due to injury.

Zeuxis has been out of action since June but is now returning after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. She was working through the injury when she lost the CMLL Women’s World Championship to Mercedes Mone this June.

Representing Team Mexico, Reyna Isis was the winner of the 2024 women’s Grand Prix. Red Velvet and Willow Nightingale were among the Team World competitors.

The men’s edition of the 2025 Grand Prix took place last week with Mistico being crowned the winner.

Mercedes Mone wins CMLL Women’s title at AEW Grand Slam Mexico

Mercedes Mone has added the CMLL Women’s title to her ever-growing list of championships.

Mone defeated Zeuxis for the title at Wednesday’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico, countering a second rope move with a powerslam of sorts to get the pin and victory (seen below).

The win gives Mone another belt to go with her TBS title, RevPro undisputed British Women’s title, and EWA Women’s title in addition to her ceremonial Owen Hart Cup title. The only title she has recently lost was the NJPW Strong Women’s title which happened in May.

The bout marked the first appearance in Arena Mexico for Mone. The loss marks the end of the 278-day run for Zeuxis which started in September 2024 and ended with just two successful title defenses.

After the match, AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm and Mone had another confrontation as Mina Shirakawa distracted Mone so Storm could surprise her from behind. The two had a chase that was broken up as Storm was attempting to deliver Storm Zero on the stage.

The two will square off for Storm’s title at July’s AEW All In.

Zeuxis defeats Willow Nightingale for Women’s title at CMLL 91st Anniversary Show

A new CMLL Women’s Champion has been crowned.

Zeuxis defeated Willow Nightingale to win the title for the first time. The finish of the match had Zeuxis pinning Nightingale after hitting an avalanche powerbomb.

Nightingale’s reign with the title ended after 61 days. She defeated Viva Van and Lluvia in a three-way match to become the new champion at CMLL x NJPW Fantasticamania in San Jose on July 13. Just days before, Stephanie Vaquer had been stripped of the CMLL Women’s title and the CMLL Women’s Tag Team title due to leaving the promotion to join WWE. Zeuxis had been CMLL Women’s Tag Team Champion with Vaquer.

On AEW television, Nightingale had lost to Kris Statlander in what originally was a CMLL Women’s Championship title eliminator match. A title match had been set for All Out earlier this month, with the two squaring off in a street fight. However, it was announced shortly before the show that CMLL would not sanction the title match. The two instead had a non-title street fight, with Statlander picking up the victory.

Mercedes Mone TBS title defense booked for next AEW Dynamite

Mercedes Mone will defend the TBS Championship against CMLL’s Zeuxis on next week’s AEW Dynamite.

AEW’s Tony Khan made the announcement in a social media post, noting that Zeuxis is Stephanie Vaquer’s tag team partner in CMLL. Vaquer is set to defend the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship against Mone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 30 in a match where Mone’s TBS title will also be at stake.

In a separate post, Khan announced “an informative video package” for Saturday’s AEW Collision to get those unfamiliar with Zeuxis up to speed on her.

Khan went on to mention in a follow-up post that should Zeuxis win the TBS title on Dynamite, only Vaquer’s NJPW Strong Women’s title will be on the line at Forbidden Door.

Mone vs. Zeuxis is the second title match booked for the Wednesday, June 12 Dynamite. Will Ospreay will also defend the AEW International Championship on the show against Rey Fenix after Fenix won a four-way number one contender’s match on this week’s episode.

A TV Time with Chris Jericho segment has also been announced for next week’s Dynamite.

The updated card for the Wednesday, June 12 Dynamite:

  • AEW International Champion Will Ospreay defends against Rey Fenix
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Zeuxis
  • Chris Jericho’s TV Time with guests Private Party

Four more participants set for WWE Mae Young Classic

With four more participants being announced today, 19 of the 32 wrestlers for this summer’s Mae Young Classic have now been confirmed.

Zeuxis, Isla Dawn, Lacey Lane, and Karen Q were added to the lineup for the Mae Young Classic during the most recent round of announcements. Lane was introduced as part of the newest group of WWE Performance Center signees earlier this month. She played division two basketball while in college, was trained at The Dudley Boyz’s Team 3D Academy, and is a former Women’s Champion for The Crash Lucha Libre.

Karen Q currently wrestles on the indies and is part of ROH’s Women of Honor division. She took part in a WWE tryout at the Performance Center last October.
