Steve Austin explains not appearing at WWE WrestleMania 40

An appearance at WWE WrestleMania 40 was pitched to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin — but he had “other sh*t going on.”

The main event of WrestleMania 40 in 2024 saw Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns to finish his story and win the WWE Championship. Cameos by WWE legends The Rock and The Undertaker were part of the match — and it seemed like Undertaker’s spot might have originally been intended for Austin. Undertaker helped fend off interference by The Rock and clear the way for Rhodes to get the victory.

In the past, Austin has explained that the rumored appearance in Philadelphia didn’t happen because of scheduling issues. He expanded on that during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

“Things just didn’t line up. I had other things going on,” Austin said. “You know, I remember when they pitched that to me. I said, ‘Dude, I got some things going on. I don’t see myself being there.’ That was way in advance. Was it pitched to me, or did they want me there? Yeah, but I wasn’t in a position to go.

“There was a possibility that I could have been there, had I chose to go there. I had other sh*t going on. Sometimes, you know, WWE is this multi-billion dollar corporation. I got a metal shop that we’re sitting in. So, sometimes the multi-billion dollar company has an idea that the dude that has the metal shop — it just don’t work. It didn’t work. I’m over here in my metal shop. I like to do as much as I can with WWE. When it works for them, when it works for me, and when it’s going to be fun. In saying that, not everything lines up on a timeline basis. I had other sh*t going on.”

Austin was able to make an appearance at WrestleMania 41 happen, with him showing up in Las Vegas at the second night to announce the attendance. The Austin vs. Bret Hart match from WrestleMania 13 was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame that weekend.

WrestleMania is back in Vegas this year — and Austin owns a ranch in the state of Nevada. It remains to be seen if he’ll be involved in the show. If he is, it likely will not be for a wrestling match. The 61-year-old Austin noted on Insight that he feels physically capable of having one more WWE match but probably never will.

Matt Hardy calls for ‘generational dream match’ at WWE WrestleMania

Matt Hardy has a “generational dream match” in mind for WWE WrestleMania.

After The Usos won the World Tag Team titles on Raw last night, Hardy posted a tweet congratulating Jimmy & Jey on their victory. He also suggested a triple threat match for WrestleMania that would see The Usos defend their newly won belts against The Hardy Boyz and New Day.

“Congrats, @WWEUsos! Well deserved win as you guys absolutely killed it,” Hardy wrote. “Maybe at
@WrestleMania, it’s time for The Usos vs The New Day vs The Hardy Boyz in a generational dream match.”

Kofi Kingston of The New Day appeared to like Hardy’s idea, responding to his tweet with an eyes emoji.

Matt & Jeff Hardy also currently hold gold as the TNA Tag Team Champions. They’ve re-signed with TNA but could still be involved with WWE through the partnership the two promotions have together. The Hardys have already worked some NXT matches, including having a brief reign with the NXT Tag Team titles.

Last night’s Raw main event saw The Usos defeat AJ Styles & Dragon Lee to become the new World Tag Team Champions. This is the ninth Tag Team title reign for The Usos and the first time they have been champions together since 2023.

Maxxine Dupri details her dream WWE WrestleMania entrance

If Maxxine Dupri gets the chance to compete at WrestleMania 42, she would love to have some old friends participate in her entrance.

WrestleMania 42 is set to be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026. To promote ticket sales, Dupri appeared on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez and was asked to detail what her dream WrestleMania entrance would be. Dupri said she would ideally like to involve some of her old teammates from when she was an NFL cheerleader and NBA dancer. Dupri — whose real name is Sydney Zmrzel — cheered for the Los Angeles Rams and was a dancer for the Phoenix Suns before starting out her WWE career.

“When I was an NFL cheerleader and an NBA dancer, I loved every opportunity when we got to perform with artists. We often got the opportunity to dance with different rappers and people that would come and do halftime shows. So I would love to have the opportunity to incorporate my girls,” Dupri said. “My girls that like seriously, that’s what got me here and that’s what taught me so much.

“I would love to have some NFL cheerleaders out there. Here’s the thing, we’re in Las Vegas, right? So I think we have to do the Raiderettes, which I do have friends that are Raiderettes. I was a Los Angeles Rams cheerleader. It’s a short drive.”

Dupri is the current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. She told Unlikely that her goals for 2026 include hanging on to that championship, going after the Women’s Tag Team titles, and giving a strong performance in the Royal Rumble. Her biggest goal is to continue building her confidence and perfecting her craft.

WWE releases new WrestleMania-related teaser

On social media today, WWE dropped a new teaser related to WrestleMania.

The 18-second video shows an unidentified woman putting on lipstick and ends with the message “4 Days.” The font used is the same that WWE is using for all of the promotional material for WrestleMania 42. Because of that, it seems all but confirmed that this is for a women’s version of the WrestleMania 42 promo video that WWE released in October. If that proves to be true, the women’s ad will debut exactly one month after the men’s version was released.

Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, and Paul Heyman were featured in the men’s video, which was narrated by Paul “Triple H” Levesque and set to the song “Back in the Saddle” by Aerosmith. WWE premiered the video on The Pat McAfee Show along with uploading it to YouTube and other social media platforms.

This Friday (November 28) — when this new promo will be released — is the day that individual tickets for WrestleMania 42 are going on sale. WWE scheduled the release of individual tickets to happen on Black Friday. Combo tickets for the two-night event are already available.

Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026 are the dates for WrestleMania 42. Las Vegas is again hosting the event, making this the second straight year that WrestleMania has been held at Allegiant Stadium.

Drew McIntyre addresses possible next WWE WrestleMania location

Drew McIntyre has pitched a potential next WWE WrestleMania location.

With WrestleMania 42 set to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and WrestleMania 43 scheduled for Saudi Arabia, ex-World Champion Drew McIntyre has opened up on Scotland being an ideal next destination for The Grandest Stage of them all.

Recently speaking to SportBible ahead of his WWE title match against Cody Rhodes, McIntyre discussed the possibility of his home country of Scotland hosting a future WrestleMania PLE. While The Scottish Warrior failed to defeat Rhodes tonight, he had made it clear that returning home as the Undisputed champion was one of his goals. Speaking to SportBible he said, “It’s something I’ve been wanting to do [return home with the title], I think I started talking about it in 2019, going into the Royal Rumble in 2020 when I won, that I’m going to win the Rumble, win the title, get an open top bus, parade it around the UK as the only ever British champion.”

McIntyre further said, “I have the chance to get this title, pull off the big one on Saturday. I’ve got to overcome Cody’s politics and influence to make sure I win the big one.”

“Then I’ll bring the title home, then we have ourselves a parade and take it to WrestleMania. We’ve got places we can have WrestleMania. We can have it at Murrayfield, and everyone would travel, not just from in the UK. Then we get to check out the lovely scenery. I’d love to actually see some of the scenery. I cannot wait to do media on top of Edinburgh Castle or something. Head to some of the football games, a few Rangers games, we’ll finally be back on form after a disastrous start to the season. I’ll be right there, for one WrestleMania.”

McIntyre last wrestled in Scotland at Clash At The Castle 2024, where he lost to Damian Priest. WWE will return there during the Road to the Royal Rumble tour in January, with one date set in Glasgow.

Drew McIntyre opens up about his bar fight team

In in recent interview on No-Contest Wrestling, Drew McIntyre revealed his bar fight team, which included the likes of Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, and many more.

Brock Lesnar popped in my head right away. He’s the kinda guy, I’ve been in the ring with certain guys like Big Show, Mark Henry and the likes where they grab you and you’re like, ‘They could do anything with me right now, but if you let me go I’m gonna run away.’ Brock can chase you down and catch you. So let’s go Brock. Cain Velasquez was there for a minute. He’s one of the only few humans that could beat up Brock, so let’s go Velasquez. He was there I remember in Saudi one time, I was chatting with him for a minute.

WWE releases star-studded WrestleMania 42 promo video

After days of teases, WWE has finally delivered its payoff — a new promo video for WrestleMania 42.

The teases began on social media over the weekend with mysterious videos that showed unidentified stars walking. Initial speculation was that this was hyping some kind of big return, but it was reported that the teases were actually for a WrestleMania 42 promo spot the company had produced.

That was proven to be the case with WWE unveiling the full video on Tuesday’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show. Paul “Triple H” Levesque narrates the promo — which also stars Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, and Paul Heyman.

Rhodes, Reigns, Punk, and Lesnar are sitting at a poker table for the promo, which has “Back in the Saddle” by Aerosmith playing.

“They say in Vegas, everyone’s got a tell, a blink, a breath, a moment that can’t be controlled,” Levesque says. “But the great ones, they use it to their advantage. They own it. They’ve got them right where they want them. The rest just haven’t figured it out yet.

“WrestleMania Vegas — it’s anyone’s game.”

The two-night event is taking place at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026. It’s the second straight year that WrestleMania has been held in Vegas. Two-day combo tickets are already on sale.

New Orleans was originally supposed to host WrestleMania 42 but will be getting a future edition of the event instead, though the year for that New Orleans WrestleMania has not been confirmed yet. All that’s been announced is Vegas hosting WrestleMania in 2026 and Saudi Arabia hosting the show in 2027.

Update on cryptic WWE teaser videos

It doesn’t look like WWE is teasing any kind of big return with its recent social media campaign

Over the weekend, WWE began posting cryptic teasers of unidentified stars walking. Only their shoes can be seen in the videos and there has been no official reveal yet on who these wrestlers are. But WrestleVotes reports that the videos are actually for a WrestleMania 42 promo that will be released soon.

“It’s a WM42 promo and it’s expected to be revealed, in full, sometime later today,” the report said.

PWInsider reports that some major WWE names — including Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns — were at company headquarters recently filming material for what is likely to be this promo video.

Allegiant Stadium is hosting WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026, making this the second straight year that WrestleMania has been held at the Las Vegas venue. New Orleans was originally supposed to be the host city until WWE made the decision to bring Mania back to Vegas instead.

New Orleans will still be hosting a future WrestleMania, though there is no year attached yet. It will not be in 2027 either, as Saudi Arabia is getting WrestleMania 43 that year.

Two-day combo tickets for WrestleMania 42 are already on sale. This promo video could include information regarding the on-sale date for individual tickets.

Titus O’Neil: I feel safer in Saudi Arabia than most places in US

WWE ambassador Titus O’Neil is fully on board with the company’s decision to bring WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia.

Appearing on TMZ’s Inside the Ring podcast, O’Neil responded to the backlash that WWE holding WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia in 2027 has received. O’Neil said he feels safer in Saudi Arabia than a lot of places in the United States — and he doesn’t believe we as Americans have the right to point fingers at anyone.

“I can say this, you know, because I’ve been to Saudi Arabia several times now: I feel safer in Saudi Arabia than I do in most places — or a lot of places — in the United States of America,” O Neil said.

“I think in the United States, we have this mindset that we’re the greatest country in the world. And we are a great country, but people don’t move to the United States because we’re the greatest country in the world. They move because we have the greatest amount of opportunity. And I think that the biggest difference between places like overseas in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Middle East, all those places and the United States are morals and convictions. They actually live by theirs, whether you like them or not. They’re going to pray five times a day. They’re going to stop during the day, and they’re going to do their thing no matter what, who likes it and don’t like it.

“You don’t hear about mass shootings in Saudi Arabia. You don’t hear about mass shootings in China. You don’t hear about mass shooters in Japan. I think if people went over to Saudi Arabia or had a chance to go there, their views would change dramatically. And I’m not saying that they get it all right, but we don’t get it all right either to be pointing fingers at anybody.”

O’Neil said there were a lot of “scare tactics” and “scare verbiage” when he went to Saudi Arabia the first time for WWE, but he saw a group of kids playing on the beach at 1 a.m. one night. When he asked his driver the next morning if people in Saudi Arabia were worried about that, the driver said no because there would be an automatic death sentence if the kids were sexually assaulted, beaten, kidnapped, or brutalized.

“So kids are safe over there, but kids are not safe in the United States,” O’Neil said. “My perspective of us going to Saudi Arabia for WWE — yeah, it’s business, but it’s also changing cultures. When we first went over there, women were just now, they were just now getting introduced and being able to drive. Things are changing over there.”

O’Neil said WWE doesn’t care what color fans are, what religion they practice or don’t practice, or where they come from. He believes holding WrestleMania in Riyadh is a chance to show what unity can look like and how other cultures embrace what WWE does.

“So if there’s ever a platform for us as a company to take and utilize, to show what unity can look like, to show what good business looks like, to show what other cultures look like, and how they embrace what we do, no matter where they are and what they come from, and how they dress — Saudi Arabia is definitely one of those places, in my opinion,” O’Neil said. “I think if the WWE brass and TKO brass didn’t feel that way, the decision would not have been made.

“So for anyone that — first and foremost, most of the people that are complaining about the show being over there, would never book a ticket to go over there anyway. Watch the show on TV, it’s going to be a spectacle. Saudi Arabia does nothing small, and WWE does nothing small. So get ready for a hell of a show and a hell of an experience on a global stage that’s going to show everyone why this business, and particularly TKO and WWE, do it better than anyone in the world.”

The Saudi WrestleMania is the first time WWE’s biggest event has ever been held outside of North America. WWE and the Saudi government have been business partners since 2018. That controversial relationship has grown to the point where Saudi Arabia is hosting the Royal Rumble in 2026 and WrestleMania in 2027.

It’s been five years since O’Neil last competed in the ring. When asked about potentially wrestling again at some point, the 48-year-old O’Neil left the door open to the possibility if WWE wants him to. But he’s enjoying everything he’s doing outside of the ring right now. He was recently featured on the Bravo reality show “Kings Court” and has hopes of breaking into Hollywood like his friend Dave Bautista has.

Nick Khan: WWE believes fans will travel to Saudi Arabia for WrestleMania

WWE isn’t concerned about the logistical issues presented by bringing WrestleMania to Saudi Arabia.

Last month, it was confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host WrestleMania 43 in 2027 with the event being held in Riyadh. It’s the first time WrestleMania will take place outside of the United States or Canada. That means an earlier start time for the two-night broadcast and a longer trip for most fans who usually travel to the show, but Nick Khan believes viewership will be strong and fans will still travel.

Khan was in Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a panel at Joy Forum 2025. He spoke about the decision to take WrestleMania outside of North America for the first time.

“It was a natural next step for us,” the WWE president said. “I think at WWE, we realized a number of years ago — you can’t simply pipe American product out globally and hope to be a global product. You actually have to have boots on the ground. So if you look at what we’ve done with our Premium Live Events — formerly known as pay-per-views — over the last few years, about half of those now take place outside of the United States.

“We’re in the eighth year of a long-term partnership with Turki Alalshikh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia… We’re bringing Royal Rumble here at the end of January [2026]. It’s the first time Royal Rumble, which is our second or third biggest event, will take place outside of the United States or Canada. And WrestleMania 2027, as you just mentioned, will be here in April of that year, first time ever WrestleMania, as you also said, outside of the US or Canada. We’re excited. We think viewership is going to be strong. We think people will come to the Kingdom to see our show, and we’re going to put on a spectacle.”

WWE is believed to be receiving a lucrative amount of money to hold WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia. The controversial business relationship between the promotion and the Saudi government began in 2018 and continues to expand.

When asked why Saudi Arabia specifically was chosen as the location for the first non-North American WrestleMania, Khan pointed to that strong partnership as the reason.

“So when Turki expressed interest in having it here, we got together for a couple of different meetings, worked out the deal in short order and then had the good fortune of announcing it the day before Canelo vs. Crawford, our first [boxing] fight together in Las Vegas,” Khan said.

It was noted at Joy Forum that hosting WrestleMania is something that Saudi officials first mentioned as a goal seven years ago.

John Cena names all-time WWE WrestleMania dream opponent

John Cena wishes an alternate universe existed where he and Andre the Giant could have faced each other.

Along with his WWE retirement tour, Cena has been appearing at Fan Expo conventions this year and taking part in Q&A sessions with fans. One of those events took place in Chicago this summer with the video being uploaded to YouTube this week. A fan asked Cena who he would choose to face in the main event of WrestleMania if he could go back in time and pick anyone from wrestling history.

“Just selfishly, Andre, because he was like the measuring stick,” Cena responded. “The folklore behind Andre the Giant is mythical, in both physical as his presence but also in like the folklore of the fraternity of the brotherhood of wrestling, especially the WWF territory. I’m sure it’s across the world, because Andre was a global phenomenon. But, selfishly, yes, that would be the one: Andre the Giant.”

Cena competed in his last-ever WrestleMania earlier this year, defeating Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. Cena later dropped the title back to Rhodes at SummerSlam.

There are only five WWE appearances remaining before Cena retires. Next up is a trip to Australia for Crown Jewel: Perth this Saturday, where Cena will face off against an old rival in AJ Styles.

Cena’s last match will be held in Washington, D.C. on December 13 on WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. It’s expected that Gunther will be his final opponent.

Brock Lesnar advertised for WWE WrestleMania 42

Brock Lesnar is now among the advertised talent for WWE WrestleMania 42.

WWE published a new graphic on Tuesday advertising that two-day combo tickets for 2026’s WrestleMania are available now on pre-sale. Lesnar is one of the stars featured on the graphic, with him appearing alongside Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Jade Cargill, Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk.

Lesnar has not competed at WrestleMania since his victory over Omos in 2023. He missed both WrestleMania 40 and WrestleMania 41 amid his two-year absence from WWE programming. Lesnar returned this August for the first time since his name was mentioned in Janel Grant’s ongoing lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. Lesnar is not a defendant in the suit.

In his return, Lesnar is under a new WWE contract for limited dates. His return match took place at Wrestlepalooza last weekend with Lesnar picking up a decisive victory over John Cena.

WrestleMania 42 is being held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2026. It’s the second consecutive year that Vegas has hosted WrestleMania. WWE will then head to Saudi Arabia in 2027 for WrestleMania 43.

WWE announces Saudi Arabia will host WrestleMania 43

A few days after the news accidentally got out, WWE officially confirmed that WrestleMania is coming to Saudi Arabia.

WWE held a press conference in Las Vegas on Friday with Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Saudi official Turki Alalshikh announcing that WrestleMania 43 will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2027. It will be the first time WrestleMania — WWE’s marquee event dating back to 1985 — has ever been held outside of the United States or Canada.

An exact date for the two-night event was not announced, but it was said that the show is being held as part of the Riyadh season festival.

In the announcement, Levesque positioned this as the next step in the WWE-Saudi relationship and an opportunity for WWE to show how much of a global brand it has become. He called the fans in Riyadh some of the best WWE fans on the planet.

“We could not be more excited for this opportunity,” Levesque said. “This is an opportunity to show the world what I think most people already know: that WWE is a global brand that reaches every corner of the world and excites fans from everywhere.”

WWE legends Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker were in attendance at today’s press conference, along with current stars Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Stephanie Vaquer, Logan Paul, and Seth Rollins.

Levesque stated that WWE president Nick Khan was the “driving force” behind the deal for Saudi Arabia to host WrestleMania.

The Saudi government has become one of WWE’s closest partners since their controversial business relationship began in 2018. Next year, WWE Royal Rumble will be held in Saudi Arabia on January 31, 2026.

Las Vegas is hosting WrestleMania 42 in 2026 before the event comes to Saudi Arabia in 2027.

Details on negotiations for megastar to be part of WWE WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia

With the impending announcement of WWE WrestleMania heading to Saudi Arabia for the first time ever in 2027 comes speculation of who could be part of the show given the large price tag TKO is getting for bringing it there.

Enter TKO Board member Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that those close to the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority both confirmed the WrestleMania deal is official and “they claimed negotiations for Dwayne Johnson were advancing and they believed the deal was close to being finalized.”

While yet unconfirmed with anyone from WWE, “The impression is that the final payment number for the show will be affected by whether or not they get The Rock in the main event. The idea is that the individual payoff for Johnson would be multiple times that of any pro wrestler for any event in history.”

WWE is reportedly set to receive more than $100 million for the weekend of events.

The goal from the Saudi perspective seems to be either the 54-year-old Johnson vs. Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns.

The official announcement is expected to take place in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon.

That isn’t the only major star WWE is trying to recruit for the event. Read this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter for more.

Update on WWE WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared the latest on WWE WrestleMania coming to Saudi Arabia.

News broke last night that Saudi Arabia will host WrestleMania in 2027. An official announcement from WWE has not been made yet, but Meltzer reports that he first heard last month that it was “for sure” that Saudi Arabia would be getting WrestleMania. At that time, there were rumors that there could potentially be two WrestleManias in 2027 with the United States and Saudi Arabia each hosting one. But Meltzer presumes WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia will be the only WrestleMania that year.

Meltzer notes that Saudi official Turki Alalshikh — the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority — is the key person behind this, and Saudi Arabia is putting up “a ridiculous amount of money” to get the event.

“They’re putting up an incredible amount of money — a ridiculous amount of money,” Meltzer said. “And the idea is to present the most star-studded show ever, you know, by far. Everyone, anyone, money is no object. Any name you can imagine, obviously they’re going to be after. I presume it’s the only WrestleMania of that year, but when I first heard — one of the ideas was to do a two WrestleMania year one year so that way it keeps the American fans not upset about Saudi Arabia. But I think perhaps the deal is also that as Saudi Arabia has become more and more normalized, it appears that the outrage that probably would’ve been there even a year ago or two years ago, probably won’t be. I hardly saw any today, but we’ll see.”

Meltzer said that, because WWE had other commitments, they originally wanted 2028 to be the year for the Saudi WrestleMania event. It ended up being 2027 because that’s what Saudi Arabia pushed for, with that year marking a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the first Saudi state being formed.

The controversial WWE-Saudi Arabia business relationship began in 2018 and continues to grow. As was announced earlier this year, Saudi Arabia will host the Royal Rumble in January 2026. WrestleMania 42 will then be held in Las Vegas a few months later.
