Toxic Attraction replacing Stark & Lyons in WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament

Update —

WWE has confirmed that Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne are replacing Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons in the Women’s Tag Team title tournament. Shawn Michaels said Stark was injured at NXT Heatwave and Lyons is “medically unavailable.”

Dave Meltzer reported that Stark’s injury is a concussion.

A change has been made to the lineup for WWE’s Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

The first round of the tournament was supposed to conclude with NXT’s Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons facing Natalya & Sonya Deville on SmackDown tonight, but PWInsider reports that Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) will instead be facing Natalya & Deville in the match. PWInsider wrote that Lyons isn’t at SmackDown tonight.

On the latest edition of the Bryan & Vinny Show, Bryan Alvarez noted that he was told Stark was injured during her match against NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose at Heatwave this past Tuesday. Alvarez said he didn’t know how serious Stark’s injury was or how long she would be out of action, but he believed Stark & Lyons were out of the WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament.

Dolin, Jayne, and Rose are all members of Toxic Attraction in NXT.

The winner of tonight’s tournament match will advance to face Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah in the semifinals. IYO SKY & Dakota Kai vs. Asuka & Alexa Bliss is the semifinal match on the other side of the bracket.

Tonight’s SmackDown is being held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The show will feature a face-to-face segment with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and his Clash at the Castle challenger Drew McIntyre.

WWE Women’s Tag Team title tournament to begin on Raw

A tournament to crown the next WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions will take place this Monday.

It was announced during tonight’s SmackDown that a tournament to crown new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions will begin Monday. Participants were not announced for the upcoming tournament.

The titles were vacated on May 20 after Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on the company on the May 16 edition of Raw due to creative differences. On the May 20 edition of SmackDown, announcer Michael Cole said that the duo were suspended from WWE and “let us all down” after walking out. Cole said that a tournament to crown new champions would take place in the future.

On Monday, WrestlingNews.co reported that Sasha Banks and Naomi have reached an agreement to return to WWE. The report stated that there “is a belief backstage that we may see them return on tonight’s [Raw] or in the near future under Triple H’s regime.”

Already announced for Raw this coming Monday is Bobby Lashley defending the WWE United States Championship against Ciampa.

WWE Women’s Tag Team title match set for May 13 SmackDown

Naomi and Sasha Banks will be defending the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles in two weeks on SmackDown.

Tonight’s show announced that they will defend the titles against Shayna Baszler and Natalya on the May 13th edition of SmackDown. Naomi defeated Baszler on tonight’s show, but Natalya attacked Naomi right after the match. Banks came in for the save, but Natalya got the advantage while Baszler recovered and attacked Naomi, stomping on Naomi’s arm.

Baszler & Natalya interrupted an interview with Naomi & Banks on last week’s SmackDown, saying they have never been beaten for the titles, mentioning the four-way from WrestleMania 38. Natalya ended up pushing Banks down, with Naomi holding Banks back as Baszler & Natalya made their exit.

Banks and Naomi won the titles on the second night of WrestleMania 38 in a four-way match that involved then-champions Carmella & Queen Zelina, Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan, and Natalya & Baszler.

Women’s Tag Team titles change hands on WWE Raw

Rhea Ripley & Nikki A.S.H. are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Ripley & Nikki A.S.H. won the Women’s Tag Team titles by defeating Natalya & Tamina on tonight’s episode of Raw. Natalya went to put the Sharpshooter on Nikki A.S.H. during the match, but she was distracted by Ripley laying out Tamina by hitting Riptide on the outside. Nikki A.S.H. then rolled up Natalya to win the titles.

Tamina had tried to take out Ripley before being laid out.

Prior to tonight’s Women’s Tag Team title match, Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. spoke about Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and dedicated their match to everyone who has been affected by pediatric cancer and everyone who has supported WWE’s Connor’s Cure foundation.

On Raw two weeks ago, Ripley & Nikki A.S.H. defeated Natalya & Tamina in a non-title contender’s match. Last week’s Raw featured singles matches where Nikki A.S.H. defeated Tamina and Ripley defeated Natalya.

Ripley and Nikki A.S.H. are both former Raw Women’s Champions. In a triple threat match that also included Ripley, Nikki A.S.H. lost the Raw Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam last month.

Natalya & Tamina had been Women’s Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler this May.

Nox & Shotzi earn WWE Women’s Tag Team title shot on SmackDown

Nox and Shotzi will soon get a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.

On tonight’s SmackDown, they faced champions Tamina and Natalya for the second week in a row. The stipulation for tonight’s bout was if they won, they would receive a title shot in the future. The finish of the match had Liv Morgan and Zelina Vega, who were on commentary at ringisde, brawling after they got into an argument. The distraction led Nox to small package Natalya for the win, earning the title match.

After the bout, Natalya and Tamina were not happy and attacked Liv and Zelina, laying them both out. All four women are scheduled to be in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match along with Naomi, Asuka, Nikki ASH, and Alexa Bliss this Sunday.

Former NXT stars Nox and Shotzi made their debut on last week’s SmackDown, defeating Tamina and Natalya their first night in. Toni Storm, also from NXT, is slated to debut on next week’s show.

Shotzi Blackheart & Tegan Nox make WWE SmackDown debut

Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart made their debut on WWE SmackDown as a team, defeating the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

It was noted prior to the match that Natalya and Tamina would be facing a new team never seen before in WWE. The ring announcer introduced the new team as “Nox” and “Shotzi”, although Michael Cole on commentary referred to Nox as “Tegan” multiple times. Shotzi picked up the win for her team, pinning Natalya following a senton.

Both Nox and Shotzi have competed in dark matches prior to Raw and SmackDown in recent weeks as WWE prepares to return to the road later this month. Other names that have worked dark matches recently include Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Toni Storm, Bronson Reed, and Odyssey Jones.

Nox has just returned from a ACL injury suffered last August, returning on The Great American Bash episode of NXT this week. Her distraction cost The Way (Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae) the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles. Shotzi Blackheart has teamed with Ember Moon in the past and together are former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, losing the belts to The Way back on May 4.

Women’s Tag Team title match set for WWE Payback

The WWE Women’s Tag Team title match for Payback has been set.

Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, despite attacking one another recently, will team up to take on the champions, Bayley and Sasha Banks.

Jax returned tonight after being suspended for several weeks due to attacking WWE official Pat Buck. In an interview with Sarah Schrieber, Jax said she apologized, and thus was reinstated. Baszler walked up to her as the two traded insults to one another.

During Baszler’s match against Bayley, Jax came out and interfered, resulting in a DQ. The two started to attack one another until they noticed Bayley and Sasha Banks cheering them on. They turned their attention to the champions, who then bolted.

Later, Jax said she wasn’t thrilled with teaming with Baszler, but wanted the Tag Team titles. Baszler said she would team with her if she would leave her alone. Jax shoved Baszler, then Baszler slapped Jax and walked away.

Payback will take place this Sunday, August 30.

Sasha Banks & Bayley qualify for Women’s tag title Elimination Chamber

Bayley and Sasha Banks are the fifth team to qualify for the Women’s tag team title Elimination Chamber.

Banks and Bayley defeated the team of Nikki Cross and Alicia Fox after Bayley rolled up Fox for the win. The two were put at a disadvantage before the match started when Cross and Fox jumped them as they were making their way to the ring. The heels worked over Bayley most of the match, with Banks never tagging in.

It was reported this weekend that Banks had not been cleared by WWE to compete after suffering an injury at the Royal Rumble, but was expected to be cleared tonight prior to Raw.

Two other Raw teams, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan of the Riott Squad and Tamina & Nia Jax qualified by winning matches last week. The IIconics and the team of Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose on SmackDown didn’t win any matches to qualify, but were also announced as part of the match.

Elimination Chamber will take place on February 17, 2019 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville added to Women’s Tag Team title match

The first SmackDown team have entered themselves into the Elimination Chamber match that will crown the first WWE Women’s tag team champions.

On tonight’s episode, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville were being interviewed when they declared themselves as a part of the Elimination Chamber, promising that they would become the first champions. This was starkly different compared to last night’s Raw where teams faced off against one another to get the opportunity to enter the Chamber.

Those matches on Raw had Nia Jax and Tamina defeat Alexa Bliss and Mickie James, while Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan defeated the makeshift team of Natalya and Dana Brooke. The third Raw spot will be decided next week when Bayley and Sasha Banks team up to take on the team of Alicia Fox and Nikki Cross.

These will be the first women’s tag team titles in the company since 1989, when the previous titles were abandoned.

Women’s tag champs to be decided at WWE Elimination Chamber

The first WWE Women’s tag team champions of the modern era will be decided inside the Elimination Chamber next month.

The announcement was made during Alexa Bliss’ talk show segment, A Moment of Bliss, tonight on Raw. Three Raw teams and three SmackDown teams will compete inside the Elimination Chamber, with the winners becoming the first champions.

The championships have been mentioned on and off for the last couple of months on WWE television. Sasha Banks and Bayley brought up the idea of the titles during an open forum that was hosted by Alexa Bliss. On the Christmas Eve edition of Raw, Vince McMahon said that the titles would be coming in 2019.

While these aren’t the first set of women’s tag team titles in the WWE, they would be the first in almost 30 years. The first champions, Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria, carried the NWA Women’s tag team titles over to the WWE in 1983. The titles would be more famously traded between the Jumping Bomb Angels and the Glamour Girls before they were deactivated in early 1989.

Elimination Chamber will take place on February 17, 2019 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

WWE announces Women’s Tag Team titles coming next year

A long-requested championship is coming to WWE in 2019.

During tonight’s Raw, Vince McMahon (who was dressed as Santa Claus) gave out a number of gifts, with one being the women’s tag team titles. Details were vague, as McMahon simply said they would be introduced in the new year.

There had been hints that WWE were planning on adding the set of titles eventually. They were mentioned explicitly by Sasha Banks and Bayley several weeks ago during an open forum held by Alexa Bliss. WWE has also planted signs in the crowd requesting the titles.

This isn’t the first time the WWE has had women’s tag team titles. The first titles were introduced in 1983, with Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria becoming the inaugural champions. The belts were more famously held by The Glamour Girls (Lelani Kai & Judy Martin) and the Jumping Bomb Angels (Noriyo Tateno & Itzuki Yamazaki), who feuded over the titles. The belts were dropped by the WWE in 1989.
