Becky Lynch defeats Lyra Valkyria for WWE Women’s Intercontinental title

Becky Lynch has added a new championship to her list of career accomplishments.

At Money in the Bank on Saturday night, Lynch defeated Lyra Valkyria to become the new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. The victory marks the first time Lynch has ever defeated her former protege. Valkyria had a 2-0 record against Lynch heading into tonight.

It was an underhanded victory for Lynch with her holding onto Valkyria’s tights for leverage as she got the pin. Despite cheating to win, Lynch tried to embarrass Valkyria by holding her to her word that she would raise Lynch’s hand if Lynch won. She posed to all four sides of the crowd as a dejected Valkyria held her hand up.

Lynch then forced Valkyria to put the IC title belt around her waist. She did so but was able to get the last laugh by laying Lynch out with a German suplex and Nightwing.

The result was the inverse of what happened at Backlash where Valkyria won that meeting but was attacked by Lynch after.

With the victory, Lynch becomes the second-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion in WWE history. Valkyria was crowned the inaugural champ this January.

Lynch spent most of 2024 on hiatus from WWE but made her return at WrestleMania 41 this April, initially teaming with Valkyria to win the Women’s Tag Team titles. But the two Irishwomen began their rivalry the next night as Lynch turned against Valkyria with them dropping the tag belts to Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez.

Tiffany Stratton cashes in, wins WWE Women’s Championship

Tiffy Time is upon us.

Tiffany Stratton cashed in her Money in the Bank contract on Friday’s SmackDown to win the WWE Women’s Championship in Phoenix.

In a sequence of events, Nia Jax defended the Women’s Championship on Friday’s SmackDown with a victory over Naomi in part thanks to a ruse involving Stratton. Jax and Candice LeRae spoke earlier in the show in a backstage segment and teased that Stratton was not there and that they had lost contact with her.

In the Jax vs. Naomi title match, Stratton ran in and teased a cash-in as LeRae distracted the referee, hitting Naomi with the MITB briefcase to allow Jax to retain.

In a double swerve, Stratton then attacked LeRae and threw her out of the ring. Bianca Belair ran in and hit a KOD on Jax, then Stratton tossed Belair over the announce desk. Stratton then officially cashed in, hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, and became the WWE Women’s Champion.

Stratton, a Minnesota native and former NXT Women’s Champion, signed with WWE in 2021 after being trained by Greg Gagne. She joined WWE’s main roster in February 2024.

Stratton’s hometown Vikings of the NFL congratulated the new champ in a social media post:

Two new matches official for WWE Money in the Bank

Two new matches are official for WWE Money in the Bank set for Saturday, July 6.

A six-man tag team match featuring The Bloodline was added to the card for MITB during Monday’s Raw, with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes teaming with Randy Orton & Kevin Owens against three of Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa.

The six-man stems from the show-closing angle on last week’s SmackDown where Fat debuted as the newest member of The Bloodline in an attack on Rhodes that Orton & Owens attempted to thwart.

The Intercontinental Championship will also be on the line in Toronto at MITB, with Sami Zayn set to defend the title against Bron Breakker.

Breakker and Zayn had a backstage confrontation during Monday’s Raw where Breakker challenged Zayn for the PPV. Zayn quickly accepted, and Raw GM Adam Pearce made the match official.

The updated lineup for WWE Money in the Bank set for Saturday, July 6 in Toronto at Scotiabank Arena:

  • World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defends against Seth Rollins — If Priest retains, Rollins can’t challenge for the title ever again as long as Priest holds it. If Rollins wins, Priest leaves The Judgment Day
  • Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn defends against Bron Breakker
  • Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton & Kevin Owens vs. The Bloodline
  • Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match: Jey Uso vs. Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes vs. Chad Gable vs. TBD vs. TBD
