WWE’s Montez Ford on his first WrestleMania with a crowd, supporting Bianca Belair

Days ahead of WWE WrestleMania 38, I talked with Montez Ford, one half of the Street Profits, as he and Angelo Dawkins will be participating in the triple threat Raw Tag Team Championship match against Alpha Academy and champions RK-Bro.

The team was drafted to the main roster in the 2019 WWE Draft with their first WrestleMania match ever taking place in 2020. However, that was the Mania that was impacted by COVID-19 and instead of being held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, it happened in the WWE Performance Center with no audience.

The following year, WrestleMania 37 returned with an audience but the team was left off both nights of the show and instead competed on the SmackDown prior in a four-way for that brand’s Tag Team titles.

Therefore, WrestleMania 38 will mark their first Mania match in front of a crowd.

“I am excited, I am ecstatic, I am everything that’s up, everything that up because we already know that when it’s up, it up. But I am very excited,” he said.

I asked Ford what it means to him getting to share this moment with Dawkins since they made their way up together from their early NXT days back in 2016.

“What you see on camera is the same thing you see in real life. Off-camera, he was my best man at my wedding, so it’s a real life relationship. So just to go through this journey with him, have our moms there witnessing everything, they be so proud of their boys and everything, it’s just a great, great, great journey to share with someone,” he said, latter adding their friendship is a “blessing” and that they are supportive of each other when they need it.

Ford also teased that their entrance is going to be a little “extra.”

WrestleMania memories

Ford shared a story about how his first WrestleMania that he got to watch was in 2000 and that he plans on paying homage to that match this year.

“So what’s so crazy is my favorite WrestleMania moment was the actual first one my mom got us on pay-per-view, which was WrestleMania 2000. I remember the classic TLC match from there with all the tag teams, so it’s crazy that now it’s full circle that my first WrestleMania (with fans) is in a tag match with multiple tag teams.

So just to see it come full circle like that, I think that’s wild. I would say that is my first actual imprinted WrestleMania moment and for me to now be part of a moment that I cherished as a kid is mind-blowing.”

Supporting Bianca Belair

Not only is this going to be a big night for Ford, but also for his wife, Bianca Belair, who is yet again having another big match. Last year, Belair made history along with Sasha Banks as both women main evented night one. Fast forward to this year and Belair is again in a highly-anticipated match with Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.

Ford spoke about what is has been like to see her rise to superstardom.

“It’s amazing. The person you love is actually going out there and fulfilling her dreams. And you’re there to not only be a support system, but just to be there and witness it with her is like a blessing, man. I feel like it makes all of us even more motivated to be intrigued to do these things and do more things and be successful. You always want to be there as a support group. You never know what may be going through her head, or that person’s head that you share this life with, and so you always want to be there and remind them like ‘Hey, go out there and show the world what I already know which is you are that girl. You are that woman.’

So it’s always good to not only be part of her support group but to see her be successful in these moments and just be happy. I be more nervous for her events and matches than mine, because I just want to see her do so well, and she does every time. I am so happy and proud of her like all the time. I can’t express it enough. Nothing I can do can show the gratitude I have for her. I just love being there as a support group and as her husband, as her tag team partner to make sure that not only she does well but she knows she can do well,” he said.

WrestleMania 38 takes place this Saturday and Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Peacock and WWE Network.

Country music stars to perform ‘America the Beautiful’ at WWE WrestleMania 38

Two country music stars are set for live performances at WrestleMania 38.

The tradition of “America the Beautiful” being sung before WrestleMania will continue with Brantley Gilbert and Jessie James Decker performing the song at WrestleMania 38 this weekend. Gilbert will kick off WrestleMania 38 night one this Saturday by singing “America the Beautiful,” and Decker will sing the song at the beginning of WrestleMania 38 night two on Sunday.

“It’s such a pleasure to be invited to perform at WrestleMania 38,” said Gilbert. “I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday night, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it. See you there!”

“It is always an honor to sing America the Beautiful,” said Decker. “It is a song that means so much to me, celebrating the country I love. Thank you WWE for having me. I can’t wait to be a part of WrestleMania 38.”

“Brantley and Jessie are the latest in a long line of renowned artists who have opened WWE’s biggest event of the year and we look forward to them continuing this great tradition across consecutive nights at WrestleMania 38,” said Neil Lawi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, WWE Music Group.

WWE wrote about Gilbert and Decker:

Gilbert, a two-time platinum album selling artist (Halfway To Heaven, Just As I Am), released his latest single ‘Rolex on a Redneck’ with multi-platinum and Grammy nominated artist Jason Aldean on March 25. The American country rock artist has toured with the likes of Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, and more.

Decker is a celebrated singer and songwriter, TV personality, fashion designer, beauty and lifestyle influencer, entrepreneur, and two-time New York Times best-selling author. She has emerged as a multi-platform juggernaut juggling fashion brands like her personally designed Kittenish line, along with her television hosting duties. The singer’s authentic style captivated listeners everywhere on her self-titled debut and 2017’s Southern Girl City Lights, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Now signed to Warner Music Nashville and with more than 150 million streams under her belt, Decker has begun a new musical chapter of growth and empowerment with her latest project The Woman I’ve Become EP.

It’s also been announced that DJ Valentino Khan will “welcome fans with the hottest hits in music” as they arrive at WrestleMania 38. Both nights of the event are being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The main cards for WrestleMania 38 will start at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be two-hour pre-shows for each night.

March 28, 2022 Observer Newsletter: William Regal discusses health, WrestleMania 38 update

William Regal (Darren Matthews, 53) was on Talk is Jericho this past week in an interview taped shortly after his AEW arrival at Revolution.

The idea was to talk about his career and NXT, and there was a little of that, but much of the interview talked about one horrific health issue after another.

Some of Regal’s issues were well known, including a painkiller problem that nearly ended his career in the late 90s, and it was known he was gone for a while at different points in NXT due to health issues, notably his neck surgery and a situation where he blacked out. It was also known that after a tour of India where a lot of talent got sick, Regal had a heart issue that kept him out of action for a long time. But in actuality, his heart issues dated back before that.

That explained the line in his first interview on Dynamite when he was with Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson, broke down in tears at one point thanking Tony Schiavone for helping him out when he started when he talked about how he probably wasn’t long for this world.

Edge vs. AJ Styles listed for WWE WrestleMania 38 night one

WWE appears to have changed the night that a significant WrestleMania 38 match will be taking place on.

WWE.com now lists Edge vs. AJ Styles for WrestleMania 38 night one. The match was originally announced for night two.

After Edge issued an open challenge for anyone to face him, Styles stepped up and was confirmed as Edge’s WrestleMania opponent three weeks ago. Edge then turned heel and laid out Styles with two con-chair-tos.

Styles made his return to Raw this week and had to defend his WrestleMania spot against Seth Rollins. Styles won the match by disqualification after Edge interfered and attacked him with a steel chair. With Rollins losing, he was still left without a path to WrestleMania. Rollins vowed that Raw won’t happen next week until he gets a WrestleMania moment.

WrestleMania 38 is being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Here’s the updated lineup for the event:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair

  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos defend against Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
  • Anything goes match: Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Queen Zelina & Carmella defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi, Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan, and Natalya & Shayna Baszler in a fatal four-way match

Tuesday News Update

WWE

  • Sami Zayn has been walking around Knoxville, Tennessee, asking people on the street about what they know regarding Johnny Knoxville.
  • Austin Theory spoke to TVInsider on his upcoming match against Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 38. He spoke about working with Vince McMahon. “I’m in a position that anyone who aspired to do anything in WWE would be so honored to have,” he said. I understand just how big a deal the position I am in is. Just how crazy it is for me as a lifelong fan who grew up watching Mr. McMahon and the crazy things he did. It’s cool to be put in a position to perform live television with him. The one thing I’ve learned from him is this respectful aggressiveness. Showing you have that respect, but if you have an idea and are passionate about something, you have to use that aggressiveness to go after it. There are little tips as we perform that I take away from for sure.”
  • WWE’s YouTube page has a preview of the upcoming episode of Broken Skull Sessions with guest Lita.
  • Natalya spoke with WMBD in Illinois about WrestleMania 38. She also spoke about the incident during WrestleMania 35 weekend where a fan ran in and attacked Bret Hart during his Hall of Fame speech. “It was really scary, actually. My uncle was starting to speak about my dad. I know that my dad meant so much to my uncle. They were best friends. My dad wasn’t there to speak or accept the award, so when you’re honoring somebody’s life after they’re gone, it’s very emotional,” Natalya said. For us, we were just trying to honor my dad’s life and give him an incredible send off.“I say this with complete conviction, just like our fans in WWE, just like the superstars in WWE, and the company. We were resilient. [Bret] and I got knocked down, we got right back up, and we kept going.”
  • Free matches added to WWE’s YouTube account include Trish Stratus vs. Victoria from WWE Unforgiven 2004, Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny 12-man tag team match from WrestleMania XXVIII, and Bobby Lashley vs. Sheamus from the March 22, 2021 edition of Raw.

AEW

  • This week’s Road to focuses on Thunder Rosa winning the AEW Women’s World Championship last week on Dynamite.
  • In an interview with MMA Fighting, Paige VanZant said she would like to do both pro wrestling and bare knuckle fighting. “I want to fight for AEW. I want to fight for BKFC. Contract is open-ended so I could still do MMA at the same time. I love MMA and I know my door’s definitely not closed on MMA, but at the same time, my passion really is pro wrestling and bare-knuckle boxing right now.”
  • AEW Music announced that a new instrumental album featuring original AEW entrance themes will be released on April 29.
  • This week’s Sammy Guevara vlog.
  • Thunder Rosa has Danhausen on her vlog this week.

Other Wrestling

  • In an interview with Between the Ropes, Rocky Romero talked about the initial friction between AEW and NJPW. “Obviously like AEW talent coming to NJPW STRONG like we talked about earlier is important but also like vice-versa …NJPW talent going to an AEW is super cool and important, you know that is how the forbidden door started right?” Romero said. “Because of, not going too deep into the backstory, but there was some friction there between AEW and NJPW when The Bucks and Kenny left [NJPW] to form AEW with Tony [Khan]and things were not easy at first. But we are really working on the relationship and people like Kenny and Moxley and Jericho were really important in opening up that conversation again… so yeah of course I want to be a part of AEW they are doing great stuff and getting to work with TRENT again was awesome and I want to do more stuff with TRENT and Chuckie, Wheeler and of course, Orange Cassidy is the man.”
  • GCW announced their return to New York City at the Melrose Ballroom on June 18.

DJ Valentino Khan to perform at WWE WrestleMania 38

A DJ is set to perform for the live crowd at both nights of WrestleMania 38.

WWE has announced that Valentino Khan “will welcome fans with the hottest hits in music” as they arrive at AT&T Stadium for each night of WrestleMania 38. The show is taking place on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.

Khan also performed at SummerSlam last year.

“Words can’t express how hyped I am to be playing WrestleMania,” Khan said. “It’s the Super Bowl of sports entertainment. I’ve been a lifelong fan of WWE and to be part of such a massive two-night event is a true honor and I can’t wait to play at AT&T Stadium. See you all in Dallas.”

“Live music plays a vital role in elevating the WWE fan experience and we couldn’t think of a better way to jumpstart each night of WrestleMania than to have Valentino Khan kick off our biggest event of the year,” said Neil Lawi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, WWE Music Group.

WWE wrote about Khan:

Khan is a Los Angeles-based DJ, producer and artist whose music truly knows no bounds. His versatility and lethal ear for good music has granted him production credits for the likes of Lil Pump, French Montana, 2 Chainz, T.I, and Dizzee Rascal. From making music with Grammy-winning artists Major Lazer, Skrillex, Diplo, Bruno Mars & Tyga, to performing on some music’s biggest stages such as EDC Las Vegas, Lollapalooza, and Ultra Music Festival, Valentino Khan is excited to check one stage off his bucket list at WrestleMania. A heavyweight in his own right, Khan continues to break barriers with original tracks, production credentials, and incredible live sets.

PWInsider reported that they haven’t received definitive word as to whether the pre-show for WrestleMania 38 night two will also air on USA Network. Cable listings currently don’t show the night two pre-show as being on USA.

The WrestleMania pre-shows will also air on Peacock/WWE Network and WWE’s social media platforms. Both pre-shows will start at 6 p.m. Eastern and end at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Triple threat Raw Tag Team title match official for WWE WrestleMania 38

The Raw Tag Team titles will officially be on the line in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 38.

WWE has confirmed that RK-Bro (Randy Orton & Riddle) will defend their Raw Tag Team titles against The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) and Alpha Academy (Chad Gable & Otis) at WrestleMania. The match will be part of the card for WrestleMania 38 night two on Sunday, April 3.

Two weeks ago, RK-Bro regained the Raw Tag Team titles by defeating Alpha Academy and Seth Rollins & Kevin Owens in a triple threat match. Alpha Academy were champions going into that match after winning the titles from RK-Bro in January.

The Street Profits confronted RK-Bro on Raw last week and challenged them to a title match at WrestleMania. Dawkins & Ford brought up that they had defeated Orton & Riddle in a tag match before RK-Bro won the titles.

Alpha Academy then inserted themselves into the title picture for WrestleMania by interrupting a singles match between Riddle and Ford on Raw last week.

On tonight’s Raw, RK-Bro will take on Alpha Academy in a non-title match.

WrestleMania 38 is being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Here’s the updated lineup for the event:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • The KO Show with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

  • Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro defend against The Street Profits and Alpha Academy in a triple threat match

‘Anything goes’ stipulation added to Zayn vs. Knoxville WWE WrestleMania 38 match

Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania will now be a ‘anything goes’ match.

On tonight’s SmackDown, Zayn was upset that he did not regain the Intercontinental title from Ricochet on last week’s SmackDown. He blamed Knoxville for losing the title and promised he would show Knoxville what it means to step into his world. He challenged Knoxville to a ‘anything goes’ match.

Knoxville later appeared in a video to issue a response. He mentioned fighting Butterbean once, as well as strapping himself to a rocket. He eventually accepted Zayn’s challenge.

Here is the current lineup for WrestleMania 38, which takes place on April 2 and 3:

Natalya & Shayna Baszler added to WWE WrestleMania Tag title match

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania will now be a four-way.

Natalya and Shayna Baszler have been added to the title match on night two of WrestleMania on Sunday, April 3 after an angle on tonight’s SmackDown episode.

Natalya and Baszler interfered in a tag match on SmackDown featuring Sasha Banks and Naomi taking on Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan with Tag title holders Queen Zelina and Carmella at ringside. After laying out all for competitors in the match, Natalya and Baszler then had a staredown with Zelina and Carmella.

Later in the show, Sonya Deville congratulated Natalya and Baszler on their interference and announced that they would be added to the WrestleMania bout.

Five matches are set for each night of WrestleMania. Here is the announced lineup so far:

VIDEO: WWE’s Kevin Owens mocks ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin on 3:16 Day

Kevin Owens has cut his own version of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s legendary Austin 3:16 promo as the build to their WWE WrestleMania 38 confrontation continues.

In a video released on WWE’s YouTube channel, Owens voiced his own take on Austin’s 1996 King of the Ring promo on Jake “The Snake” Roberts, but with Owens in the role of Austin and Austin in the role of Roberts.

Owens used much of the same verbiage, but put his own twist on it as clips of Austin’s promo played simultaneously.

For his part, Austin appeared on The Rich Eisen show today to promote his Broken Skull IPA and Broken Skull American Lager beers, and to plug his WrestleMania confrontation with Owens.

Austin also told Eisen the 3:16 Day origin story, as well as detailing how the Austin 3:16 catchphrase came to be at King of the Ring 1996.

Austin appearing on The KO Show is set for night one of WrestleMania on Saturday, April 2.
