Sami Zayn: WWE WrestleMania 38 match with Johnny Knoxville ‘one of my all time favorites’

Sami Zayn says that his WrestleMania 38 anything goes match against Johnny Knoxville is “as good as it gets” and one of his “all time favorites.”

Zayn posted his thoughts on the Knoxville match today on social media.

“My Wrestlemania match against Johnny Knoxville is one of my all time favorites. Definitely one of the matches I’m most proud of. I’ve had a lot of great matches in my career, I’d put this up with any of them. Anyone who saw this match will remember it. That’s as good as it gets.”

Knoxville defeated Zayn in a slapstick brawl that featured cameos from Jackass’s Party Boy and Wee Man, pinning Zayn as he was stuck in a giant mousetrap.

Knoxville responded to Zayn’s sentiments in an Instagram comment:

“I hate to say anything nice so I won’t. So suck it Sami!!”

Knoxville and Zayn’s feud began in the build to the 2022 Royal Rumble. Knoxville “qualified” for the match by throwing Zayn over the top rope on SmackDown, then Zayn eliminated Knoxville from the Rumble match.

The feud continued with Zayn crashing Knoxville’s Jackass Forever movie premiere, and being ejected from the event by security. The feud culminated in the WrestleMania bout.

Johnny Knoxville defeats Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 38, ‘Jackass’ stars appear

Johnny Knoxville defeated Sami Zayn in an anything goes match tonight at WrestleMania 38 that featured plenty of innovative weapons seen on Knoxville’s ‘Jackass’ series.

Many weapons were used during their match, including a table filled with mousetraps, a kicking machine that at one point kicked Zayn in the groin, and a giant hand that slapped Zayn as he was out of the ring. The finish of the match had Knoxville introduce a giant mousetrap. Knoxville was able to use the mousetrap to pin Zayn’s shoulders to the floor, allowing Knoxville to pin Zayn.

Stars from the Jackass series also appeared in the match, including Chris Pontius under his ‘Party Boy’ character. Wee Man also appeared, at one point body slamming Sami Zayn.

Zayn has spent most of the year feuding with Johnny Knoxville. At the Royal Rumble, Knoxville entered the Royal Rumble match but was eliminated by Zayn. After Zayn won the Intercontinental title, Knoxville challenged him to a match for the title. Zayn initally rejected a match against Knoxville, but eventually accepted after Knoxville cost Zayn the title, losing to Ricochet following a distraction.

‘Anything goes’ stipulation added to Zayn vs. Knoxville WWE WrestleMania 38 match

Sami Zayn and Johnny Knoxville at WrestleMania will now be a ‘anything goes’ match.

On tonight’s SmackDown, Zayn was upset that he did not regain the Intercontinental title from Ricochet on last week’s SmackDown. He blamed Knoxville for losing the title and promised he would show Knoxville what it means to step into his world. He challenged Knoxville to a ‘anything goes’ match.

Knoxville later appeared in a video to issue a response. He mentioned fighting Butterbean once, as well as strapping himself to a rocket. He eventually accepted Zayn’s challenge.

A match between Sami Zayn and ‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville is officially set for WrestleMania.

Ricochet wins Intercontinental title on WWE SmackDown

Ricochet is the new WWE Intercontinental Champion.

He defeated Sami Zayn on tonight’s SmackDown to win the championship for the first time. The finish had Johnny Knoxville come out to distract Zayn, which succeeded. Ricochet used the distraction to plant Zayn with a hurricanrana into a pinning combination to win the championship.

Zayn’s reign ends after only 21 days. He originally won the title on the February 11 edition of SmackDown, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura. Zayn had won a battle royal at the end of 2021 that established him as the number one contender for the title.

Knoxville and Zayn have been feuding since the start of the year, with Zayn dismissing Knoxville’s ambitions of winning the Royal Rumble, going as far as eliminating him at the Rumble. Knoxville later challenged Zayn to a match for the Intercontinental title, but Zayn balked at the idea. After Knoxville cost Zayn the match tonight, Zayn issued a challenge to Knoxville for WrestleMania.

Johnny Knoxville appears on WWE SmackDown, challenges Sami Zayn

Johnny Knoxville appeared on tonight’s SmackDown, challenging Sami Zayn to a Intercontinental title match.

Zayn held a celebration on tonight’s show after winning the Intercontinental title last week on SmackDown. The celebration was interrupted when Knoxville came out and challenged Zayn to a match for the title. Zayn refused and started to leave, but then jumped Knoxville, setting him up in a corner and striking him twice with a helluva kick.

Later backstage, Adam Pearce chastized Zayn for his actions. Ricochet then said he wanted a shot at the Intercontinental title. Zayn at first said no, but Pearce made the match for next week.

Knoxville and Zayn’s feud dates back prior to the Royal Rumble, where Knoxville announced his intentions to win the Royal Rumble match. Zayn confronted him, saying that he didn’t belong in the match. At the Royal Rumble, Zayn eliminated Knoxville.

At the premiere of the “Jackass Forever” movie earlier this month, Zayn took part in an angle where he hijacked the red carpet. Both he and Knoxville got into an argument before Zayn exited.

WWE’s Sami Zayn booted from ‘Jackass Forever’ premiere after Johnny Knoxville confrontation

After their most recent altercation at Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble, Sami Zayn crashed the Jackass Forever premiere in Hollywood, CA, Tuesday and was escorted out following a confrontation with Johnny Knoxville and the rest of his crew.

In the clip above, Zayn was telling a reporter that he eliminated Knoxville in the men’s Rumble match before Knoxville and his castmates walked up to confront him. Eventually, Knoxville got Zayn to leave by using a cattle prod.

Knoxville first started this angle with Zayn by declaring for the men’s Rumble on January 1st. He then qualified later in the month by dumping Zayn over the top rope after Zayn had defeated Rick Boogs in a match on SmackDown.

In the Rumble match, Knoxville entered at number nine and was eventually eliminated by Zayn.

The continuation of the rivalry indicates some kind of high profile match between them in the future, possibly for WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas.

Johnny Knoxville appears on WWE SmackDown, qualifies for Royal Rumble

‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville has officially qualified for the men’s Royal Rumble match.

Knoxville appeared on tonight’s SmackDown, running into Sami Zayn. He told Zayn that he was looking for management so he could enter this year’s Royal Rumble. Zayn said Knoxville needed ability to get a spot, and told Knoxville he didn’t deserve to be in the match. After Rick Boogs defeated Zayn in a match, Knoxville came out and dumped Zayn over the top rope. The ring announcer then declared that Knoxville has qualified for the Rumble match as a result.

On New Year’s Day, Knoxville posted a video on Instagram expressing interest in entering this year’s Royal Rumble.

“Happy New Year’s Day and love to everyone,” he wrote. “I have a big announcement that I have been dying to get off of my chest. I spent a lot of times over the holiday thinking about how i wanted to start off my 2022, and I decided I want to do it kicking ass and taking names. And the best way to do that i feel is making a run for the Rumble, that’s right @WWE’s Royal Rumble. Training starts today, not that I will need a lot of it because I have seen the WWE’s current roster and it’s laughable to think anyone can throw me over the top rope. LAUGHABLE! I will be channeling my wrestling heroes like @therock, Abdullah the Butcher and the great Gorilla Monsoon. The way I’m looking at it I am giving myself a %100 chance of winning. What chance do you think I have? Sincerely, Johnny Knoxville, World Champ.”

Other entrants announced for the men’s Royal Rumble match include Rey and Dominik Mysterio, Angelo Dawkins, Monetz Ford, and Austin Theory, who was entered into this year’s Rumble match by Vince McMahon.

‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville declares WWE Royal Rumble entry

The first talent has declared their entry for the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble, but that talent is not a professional wrestler.

Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame declared his entry into the Royal Rumble match in a video posted today on his Instagram account, insulting Big E and Roman Reigns, plus stating that WWE did not have any wrestlers big enough to throw him out of the Rumble match.

WWE’s official Instagram account replied to the declaration:

“Good luck @johnnyknoxville!!”

Knoxville posted the video with the caption:

“Happy New Year’s Day and love to everyone. I have a big announcement that I have been dying to get off of my chest. I spent a lot of times over the holiday thinking about how i wanted to start off my 2022, and I decided I want to do it kicking ass and taking names. This year’s Royal Rumble will take place on Saturday, January 29. Knoxville’s next film, Jackass Forever, is scheduled for a February 4 release.

Knoxville and the cast of the upcoming Jackass Forever film were backstage at WWE SmackDown in Los Angeles last month. The Jackass group was scheduled for a SummerSlam match in 2007, but Knoxville pulled out of the match in the wake of the Chris Benoit murder-suicide. Knoxville returned to the company in 2008 for angles with Great Khali and Beth Phoenix,, then again in 2010 during Raw’s guest host era.
