Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins still planned for WWE WrestleMania 38

Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins is still being planned for WWE WrestleMania 38.

While Rhodes did not appear on Raw last night, the storyline that Rollins doesn’t have a “path to WrestleMania” was featured prominently. According to comments made by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Rhodes is still expected in WWE shortly and will likely provide Rollins with such a path.

“The impression is that Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins is the WrestleMania match,” Meltzer said.

“He’s coming, that’s it. He’s coming. He’s wrestling Seth at WrestleMania unless something changes and I sure watched (last night’s Raw) not thinking anything’s changing.”

There were several subtle references to Rhodes made on Monday’s Raw. As the show was coming to a close, Corey Graves said that Rollins’ WrestleMania hopes had been “dashed” and that his dream has become a “nightmare.” Rhodes has used both the nicknames “Dashing” and “The American Nightmare” in the past.

During Commander Azeez’s ring entrance, Jimmy Smith referenced “The Colossus of Rhodes” which was a large Greek statue on the island of Rhodes from 280-226 BC.

Damian Priest also used his Reckoning finisher to defeat Finn Balor on Raw, a move similar to Cody’s Cross Rhodes. Priest had not been using the move recently and some speculated this was due to Rhodes’ pending arrival.

SmackDown Tag Team title match set for WWE WrestleMania 38 night one

The SmackDown Tag Team titles will be on the line on night one of WrestleMania 38.

WWE has announced that The Usos vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs for the SmackDown Tag Team titles will be part of the card for night one of WrestleMania 38. The match was made official after Boogs defeated Jey Uso in a singles match on last night’s SmackDown.

After being attacked by The Usos last week, Nakamura & Boogs interrupted The Usos on Friday’s SmackDown. The Usos noticed that Boogs’ leg was still wrapped up from the previous week’s attack, and they said they’d agree to give Nakamura & Boogs a title shot at WrestleMania if Boogs could defeat Jey in a singles match.

Jey went after Boogs’ leg when the match started, but Boogs took off the wrap and revealed that his leg wasn’t injured. Boogs was able to overcome interference by Jimmy Uso and hit a pumphandle slam on Jey to get the win.

As Boogs was celebrating his victory, Jimmy hit him in the back with a guitar.

The Usos have been SmackDown Tag Team Champions since winning the titles at Money in the Bank last July.

WWE WrestleMania 38 notes: Planned Cody Rhodes opponent, more expected matches

There are several matches planned for WWE WrestleMania 38 that have yet to be announced.

Dave Meltzer noted in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that three additional matches from those already announced are likely to take place. There are also tentative plans in place for a match involving Cody Rhodes, should he sign with the promotion in time.

While it’s still uncertain if Rhodes will sign with WWE, creative plans had been laid out which included a match at WrestleMania against Seth Rollins.

“[WWE’s creative team] were told this week to hold off on working on Rhodes vs. Rollins until Rhodes signs the contract because they had already worked on it and then had to stop everything when they weren’t sure if Rhodes was coming. But it was not a dead deal,” he wrote.

Although WWE has yet to officially announce it, Finn Balor is expected to defend his newly won United States Championship against the former champion, Damian Priest.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos are also scheduled to defend their titles against Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs.

A women’s battle royal is listed for WrestleMania as well, although it has yet to be officially announced.

It is also expected that a fourth team will be added to the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match. Natalya is planned to be a member of the fourth team, although a partner has yet to be determined.

The current announced lineup for WrestleMania 38 is as follows:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul

WWE hoping for Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 38, deal still not done

Time is running out for a deal to be made between WWE and free agent Cody Rhodes if he is to appear at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas.

Dave Meltzer briefly discussed the current situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying that Rhodes and WWE have yet to come to terms on a return to the company.

He said two sides are still negotiating and that creative had plans for Rhodes at this year’s WrestleMania, but time is running out in order to get things in motion for that.

Meltzer speculated that it would make sense for Rhodes to make his WWE return at this Monday’s Raw in Jacksonville, Florida, but if that Rhodes isn’t there, a deal likely still won’t have been reached.

Last week, Meltzer said that Rhodes’ status with WWE was “very uncertain” after many in the industry assumed he was returning after announcing in mid-February that he and wife, Brandi, would not be returning to AEW.

“His status has changed, in theory,” Meltzer then said of Rhodes. “He was on the books in WWE. They had creative laid out for him. They still thought on Friday (March 4th) that they had creative laid out for him. Now, it’s very uncertain. They don’t know what’s going on with Cody Rhodes. They’re not sure.”

It’s unknown what issues are preventing a deal from being signed.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin accepts Kevin Owens’ WWE WrestleMania 38 invitation

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is officially coming to WrestleMania 38.

On Monday’s episode of Raw, Kevin Owens called out Austin to appear on the KO Show at night one of WrestleMania 38. WWE then posted a video today with Austin accepting Owens’ challenge.

“Whether you want to call this a KO Show, a match, a fight, a brawl, whatever. I will guarantee you this,” Austin said. “In Dallas, Texas, where I started my career, at WrestleMania, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is gonna open up one last can of whoop-ass on you, Kevin Owens. And that’s the bottom line, ’cause Stone Cold said so.”

Leading into WrestleMania, Owens has been talking trash about the state of Texas on WWE television. Owens said last night that nothing would make him happier than beating the hell out of Austin in Austin’s home state and giving him a stunner that the world would talk about for years.

Dave Meltzer reported over the weekend that, while Owens vs. Austin had been discussed as a match for WrestleMania, it was now on the books as a confrontation.

“They will have a confrontation, but it is not clear if that will be a match or not anymore,” Meltzer said. “It’s essentially up to Austin at this point. They want the match, they thought they had the match and Steve…there’s a reason he hasn’t wrestled in 19 years. I just know that as of Friday, he had not agreed to do the match even though it was on the books. Now, it’s on the books as a confrontation.”

Austin hasn’t wrestled since facing The Rock at WrestleMania XIX in 2003.

WrestleMania 38 is taking place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Here’s the updated lineup for the event:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • The KO Show with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Winner-take-all championship unification match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns
  • Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
  • Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville
  • AJ Styles vs. Edge
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Queen Zelina & Carmella defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi and Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan in a triple threat match

WWE discussing change to Hall of Fame induction format

Several factors may cause some WWE Hall of Fame inductees to be inducted digitally during the live ceremony this year.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that it may not be possible to induct everyone on the live show as they have done in the past due to the event being 90 minutes, a considerable amount of that 90 minutes expected to be devoted to The Undertaker’s induction, and the time of night.

He said in some of the cases, inductees could be inducted digitally. He wasn’t specific on whether that means a short video speech or just a video package for certain people and acts.

“Undertaker is going to get the big grand treatment and then I would presume Vader probably will…but a lot of the other guys, there’s been talk of, again with the 90 minutes, not even doing a ceremony but just doing it digitally,” he said.

The show will air live on Peacock and WWE Network from 10:30 PM to midnight Eastern/9:30 PM to 11 PM Central. It will take place after that night’s live SmackDown from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, as part of WrestleMania 38 weekend.

Thus far, only Undertaker and Vader have been announced for this year’s class.

Andrew Zarian of Mat Men tweeted Tuesday that he has heard Sid Vicious could be included in this year’s inductees as well.

Kevin Owens calls out Steve Austin to appear on the KO Show at WWE WrestleMania 38

Kevin Owens called out ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin to be a guest on the KO Show during the first night of WrestleMania 38.

Tonight’s episode of Raw ended with Kevin Owens coming out saying that he had an idea to get himself on the WrestleMania 38 card. He said he could have the biggest KO Show in history, and determined it had to be someone from Texas. After dismissing names like JBL, Booker T, and Shawn Michaels, Owens ended the show by calling out Austin, saying Austin had likely had let himself go and wanted to drop him. A graphic then appeared, announcing the appearance for WrestleMania Saturday, April 2.

It was later announced on social media that Austin would respond to Owens’ invitation Tuesday at noon ET.

In recent weeks, Owens has been struggling to find ways to get on the WrestleMania 38 card. His efforts earlier on Raw failed, as he and Seth Rollins lost a three-way match for the Raw Tag Team titles involving Alpha Academy and RK-Bro.

Here is the current lineup for both nights of WrestleMania:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin
  • KO Show with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Winner-take-all championship unification match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns
  • Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
  • Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville
  • AJ Styles vs. Edge
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Carmella & Zelina Vega defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi and Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan

Ripley & Morgan added to WWE WrestleMania 38 women’s tag title match

A new team has been added to the WWE Women’s Tag Team title match at WrestleMania 38.

Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley were added to the title match following tonight’s Raw, where they defeated current champions Queen Zelina and Carmella. The finish of the match had Carmella talking to fiance Corey Graves at ringside, ignoring the match happening in the ring. This allowed Ripley to come in and pin Zelina with the riptide.

It was also announced that the Women’s Tag Team title match has been added to WrestleMania Sunday, April 3.

Two weeks ago on SmackDown, Naomi and Sasha Banks issued the challenge to Zelina and Carmella, saying they were the next champions. Carmella and Zelina then accepted the tag team title match on the following Monday’s edition of Raw.

Here is the current lineup for both nights of WrestleMania:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Winner-take-all championship unification match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns
  • Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory
  • Sami Zayn vs. Johnny Knoxville
  • AJ Styles vs. Edge
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Carmella & Zelina Vega defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi and Rhea Ripley & Liv Morgan

Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory set for WWE WrestleMania 38 night two

WWE has revealed which night of WrestleMania 38 Pat McAfee’s match will be taking place on.

McAfee vs. Austin Theory is set for WrestleMania 38 night two on Sunday, April 3. The two-night event is being held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on April 2 and April 3.

The match was made official for WrestleMania 38 when Theory confronted McAfee on last Friday’s SmackDown. McAfee had accepted an offer to wrestle at WrestleMania during Vince McMahon’s appearance on the Pat McAfee Show last week.

In storyline, Theory is McMahon’s protege.

This will be McAfee’s first WWE main roster match. He previously wrestled for NXT twice.

McAfee has been a color commentator for SmackDown since April 2021.

Brock Lesnar praises Roman Reigns, says he gets ‘goosebumps’ thinking about WWE WrestleMania 38 match

In an interview with the New York Post, Brock Lesnar praised Roman Reigns ahead of their match at WrestleMania 38.

Lesnar vs. Reigns in a winner-take-all title unification match will headline WrestleMania 38 night two on Sunday, April 3. The winner of the match will unify the WWE Championship and Universal Championship.

Lesnar told the New York Post that he gets goosebumps when thinking about the match.

“I see a f*cking superstar,” Lesnar said about Reigns “I see [a] guy who came into his own and is a real threat as [a] person and as a character. … Roman has the It factor, has had it. It’s exciting to me. I get goosebumps just thinking about this match.”

Before WrestleMania, Lesnar and Reigns will both have title defenses at WWE’s house show at Madison Square Garden tonight. Reigns has been Universal Champion since August 2020, while Lesnar regained the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber last month. Involvement by Reigns and Paul Heyman had caused Lesnar to lose the title to Bobby Lashley at January’s Royal Rumble.

Lesnar spoke about his storyline with Heyman during the New York Post interview, saying that he can’t wait to get his hands on Heyman and “see his fat little jowls bouncing around by whips of my hands.”

“I step into that role, and I want to kill Paul because he f*cked me over, right?” Lesnar said. “This is a serious angle for me, and it’s a passionate angle. That’s why I think the product is so good.”

This will be the third time that a Lesnar vs. Reigns match has headlined WrestleMania. They also main evented the show in 2015 and 2018.

Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory set for WWE WrestleMania 38

Pat McAfee will take on Austin Theory at WrestleMania.

On tonight’s episode of SmackDown, Raw star Theory came out and berated McAfee, saying that he had been set up by McMahon when McMahon was on McAfee’s podcast on Thursday afternoon. Theory then went to the announce table and said that he McAfee’s opponent for WrestleMania. He then slapped McAfee, stunning him as Theory took selfies and left.

McMahon on yesterday’s episode of The Pat McAfee show offered McAfee a match at WrestleMania, with McAfee accepting. A report from last week noted that a match between McAfee and McMahon was in the internal WrestleMania 38 schedule.

Here are the current cards for WrestleMania 38, which takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on April 2 and 3:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Winner-take-all championship unification match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns

Night to be determined —

  • AJ Styles vs. Edge
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Carmella & Zelina Vega defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi
  • Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory

Pat McAfee accepts offer to wrestle at WWE WrestleMania 38

Though his opponent hasn’t been announced, Pat McAfee is officially returning to the ring at WrestleMania 38.

While appearing as a guest on McAfee’s radio show on Thursday, Vince McMahon offered McAfee the opportunity to wrestle at WrestleMania 38. McAfee said it would be a dream and accepted the offer.

McMahon said he’ll find a “worthy opponent” for McAfee.

Dave Meltzer reported last Saturday that a match between McAfee and Vince McMahon was listed on WWE’s internal schedule for WrestleMania 38. There wasn’t any hostility between McAfee and McMahon during their interview today, and there wasn’t the start of an angle to build to a match between the two.

There was a segment on this Monday’s Raw where Austin Theory wanted to come to the Pat McAfee Show with McMahon so that he could be there in case anything went wrong. Theory didn’t end up appearing with McMahon during the interview.

This will be McAfee’s first main roster WWE match. He previously wrestled twice for NXT, facing Adam Cole in a singles match and also taking part in a WarGames match.

After retiring from the NFL in 2017, McAfee started a new career as a sports media personality. He first worked for WWE as a panelist for NXT TakeOver pre-shows.

McAfee joined the SmackDown commentary team in April 2021. He calls the show alongside Michael Cole.

AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas is hosting WrestleMania 38 on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Here’s the updated lineup for the show:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul

Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin official for WWE WrestleMania 38 night one

A new match has been made official for WrestleMania 38.

WWE has confirmed that Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin will be part of the card for WrestleMania 38 night one. In storyline, the two are finally facing off after Corbin has avoided McIntyre leading into WrestleMania.

McIntyre defeated Corbin’s tag team partner Madcap Moss in matches at WWE Day 1, Elimination Chamber, and on last week’s episode of SmackDown. Corbin had Moss take his place in the match on SmackDown last Friday.

After McIntyre defeated Moss at Day 1 this January, there was an angle where McIntyre was attacked by Corbin and Moss backstage. The angle was a cover for legitimate neck issues that McIntyre was dealing with. He made his return to the ring later that month as a surprise entrant in the men’s Royal Rumble match.

WrestleMania 38 is a two-night event that’s taking place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3. Here’s the updated lineup for the show:

Night one (Saturday, April 2) —

  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends against Ronda Rousey
  • Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch defends against Bianca Belair
  • Rey & Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz & Logan Paul
  • Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin

Night two (Sunday, April 3) —

  • Winner-take-all championship unification match: WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns

Night to be determined —

  • AJ Styles vs. Edge
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Carmella & Zelina Vega defend against Sasha Banks & Naomi

AJ Styles accepts Edge’s challenge for WWE WrestleMania 38

AJ Styles accepted Edge’s challenge for a match at WrestleMania 38.

On tonight’s Raw, Edge asked for someone in the locker room to challenge him. Styles arrived and told Edge he accepted. Edge said that he wanted the bulldog Styles, not the Styles who had been teaming with Omos for most of the last year. Edge extended his hand as Styles went to extend his, but Edge ended up jumping Styles. When Styles fought back and went for the phenomenal forearm, Edge dodged and low blowed Styles. He then took two steel chairs and eventually gave Styles two conchairtos to close out the show.

Last week’s Raw had Edge come out issuing an open challenge for anyone to face him at WrestleMania. After listing his various WrestleMania accomplishments, he ended last week’s segment by saying that if you fight Edge at WrestleMania, you’ll live forever.

The current cards for this year’s WrestleMania is as follows:

Night 1 (April 2)

  • Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship
  • Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship
  • Rey and Dominik Mysterio vs. The Miz and Logan Paul

Night 2 (April 3)

  • Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE and Universal Championships in a title unification match

Also announced:

  • Edge vs. AJ Styles
  • Queen Zelina and Carmella vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
