This week’s WWE Main Event was taped at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania before Monday’s Raw and featured two main roster debuts in NXT’s Wendy Choo and Xyon Quinn.
Wendy Choo defeated Tamina (4:19)
Choo won her debut with a roll up to cap off a fairly meager offering from this pair.
As much as Tamina has some real staying power in WWE, she’s not really the ideal person to make a debut against. As you can imagine, this was all about Choo trying to topple Tamina which doesn’t really make for much fun at the best of times.
Choo tried to avoid everything in the early going until Tamina stomped a mudhole in her and slapped on a headlock rest hold.
Choo rallied slightly and at least managed to take Tamina off her feet at one point. Tamina quickly recovered and only lost due to her own folly, missing a running splash to the corner so Choo could roll her up for the win.
After the bell, Tamina begrudgingly shook Choo’s hand.
– Between matches, Shelton Benjamin was backstage speaking to Dana Brooke which allowed them time to mention that Truth was injured on WWE NXT. Brooke seemed to set up a rematch at some point between her and Kiana James as James basically stole a win from her last week.
Xyon Quinn defeated Akira Tozawa (8:00)
This was pretty good and was given time. Unlike the opener, if you’re debuting on this show, Tozawa is the perfect opponent.
Quinn isn’t someone that we are used to seeing much of on WWE television, but has been on NXT Level Up as of late and on some of the live shows. Hailing from Australia and with a good look, he’s someone they could definitely do something with.
They did a fairly typical Tozawa match. He flipped all over the place for Quinn, because he’s a generous and talented performer, but also made sure to get plenty of his own stuff in there.
We went through the commercials with it looking fairly evenly split before Tozawa locked in his octopus submission hold. They teased that it might be over, but Quinn fought out and turned it into a near fall.
In the end, Tozawa missed an enzuigiri because Quinn ducked which allowed him to slam Tozawa to set up for his finisher which is akin to a Superman punch, but is more like a running punch to the face.
There were some nice signs here that Quinn has what it takes. The way that he set up the finish showed some poise and a good sense of in-ring psychology. We’ll see what they do with him.
Final Thoughts:
This was a decent show, all told, but the opener and the main event were really worlds apart in terms of quality. It’s just so refreshing to have Main Event feature backstage segments and running storylines, no matter how insignificant they may seem. It’s also been fun seeing some new faces over the last few months, so long as that may that continue.
This week’s episode of WWE Main Event will see two more NXT wrestlers in action.
Before Monday night’s Raw in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania went on the air, WWE taped two matches for this week’s edition of Main Event. NXT wrestlers were victorious in both matches. Wendy Choo defeated Tamina, while Xyon Quinn defeated Akira Tozawa.
This is the first time that either Choo or Quinn has worked Main Event. Quinn previously wrestled in a dark match before a SmackDown episode in July 2021 and lost to Sheamus on SmackDown during the pandemic era in April 2020.
NXT talent have been featured on Main Event in recent weeks. That’s included Josh Briggs, Brooks Jensen, Fallon Henley, Carmelo Hayes, Von Wagner, Cameron Grimes, Duke Hudson, and Kiana James wrestling matches on the show.
WWE Main Event premieres on Hulu each Thursday. The episodes are uploaded to Peacock on a two-week delay.
The main event of last night’s NXT saw Wendy Choo prevail in her rivalry with Tiffany Stratton.
Choo defeated Stratton in a Lights Out match, which was a no rules match held with dimmed lighting. A bed, a tennis racket, and Legos were among the weapons used. Choo slammed Stratton through the bed on the outside before then hitting a Vader Bomb in the ring to get the win.
The build to WWE’s September 4 Worlds Collide special also picked up last night. Two title unification matches were made official for the event. NXT Champion Bron Breakker and NXT United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate will face off to unify their titles. The NXT Women’s Championship and NXT UK Women’s Championship will also be unified in a triple threat match featuring Mandy Rose, Meiko Satomura, and Blair Davenport.
Join on-air personality Denise Salcedo on Speak Now Pro Wrestling as she recaps the August 23, 2022 edition of NXT 2.0. This show featured more NXT UK talent, belt unifications, the build to Worlds Collide, a promo exchange between Apollo Crews and Grayson Waller, a noteworthy promo from Cora Jade, the love story between Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis, plus a lights out main event with Wendy Choo and Tiffany Stratton. This is the perfect podcast to stay up to date with NXT!
The feud between Wendy Choo and Tiffany Stratton will culminate in a stipulation match on tonight’s NXT.
Choo and Stratton are set to face off tonight in a no disqualification “Lights Out” match with no rules.
The episode also features the fallout from last week’s Heatwave special. Members of the NXT UK roster showed up at Heatwave, with NXT United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate, Blair Davenport, and the Gallus faction all appearing last Tuesday night. This begins the build to Worlds Collide on September 4.
At the end of Heatwave, Bate confronted NXT Champion Bron Breakker to set up a champion vs. champion match. Bate will be in action tonight, taking on Von Wagner.
Gallus are also set to wrestle on tonight’s show, when they are set to challenge Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen for the NXT UK Tag Team titles.
Plus, Apollo Crews is the guest on the debut edition of the “Grayson Waller Effect” talk show.
Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
**********
The show begins with a video package recapping Heatwave from last week.
NXT Champion Bron Breakker opens the show marching to the ring with his title belt slung over his shoulder. He addresses the live studio audience in Orlando by asking, “Where my dawgs at?”
After the cheap pop, Breakker asks NXT UK Champion Tyler Bate to join him in the ring for a talk. I thought the talk show segment was booked for later in the show, but okay.
Out comes Bate to confront Breakker in the ring. This leads to Bate challenging Breakker to a unification match. Breakker on the house mic puts Bate over at first, but he cautions Bate this is not NXT UK. This is the NXT, where “the greatest superstars in the world are,” according to Breakker.
Breakker does agree with Bate that there should one champion of NXT, so Breakker accepts the challenge. Breakker says it will be title vs. title at Worlds Collide.
With a main event booked for Worlds Collide, the two NXT champions shake hands. They then hold their belts up for a face to face staredown.
A vignette introduces the viewing audience to Gallus. The faction then enters the soundstage, set for a match that is up next. But first, something else.
Before the show cuts to its first commercial break, there is commotion in the backstage area. Fallon Henley and Lash Legend are being separated after getting into a quarrel.
Henley is pulled away from her quarrel by Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen. They head to the ring to defend their belts in a tag title match.
Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang with Joe Coffey) defeat NXT United Kingdom Tag Team Champions Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs (with Fallon Henley) via countout
Brooks & Jensen lose are counted out after brawling at ringside with Pretty Deadly. Fallon Henley also brawls with Lash Legend.
Decent enough match, but with a lame finish. Granted, it does build to a mixed trios match, but Gallus in my opinion could have used a more dominant win in their 2.0 debut.
Gallus gained control as the match got going, but Brooks & Jensen fight back and rally. A melee breaks out, with Brooks & Jensen standing tall as the show cuts to a commercial break.
The babyface rednecks did well during the break, but Jensen is soon cut off as the show is returning from commercials. Gallus work over Jensen for a little while, until a hot tag.
Briggs tags in, and he cleans house. Gallus bumps and feeds as Briggs runs wild. Suddenly, Lash Legend appears at ringside to taunt Henley.
Henley jumps into Legends arm like this was a rom-com, but a brawl breaks out instead. Pretty Deadly then run down to ringside, and they begin brawling with Brooks & Jensen.
A skit begins with Andre Chase in the ring addressing Chase U students. Chase has brought in Charlie Dempsey from NXT UK for a training session. Dempsey was “going to teach the class some moves,” meaning he stretched them like Stu Hart in the Dungeon.
Dempsey stretches Bodhi Hayward, and Hayward taps. Dempsey tortures him by not breaking the hold, and Chase has to separate them. An angry Hayward yells at Dempsey, and Chase questions whether he should have brought in Dempsey.
Dempsey calls the class “soft,” and he tells them to do some homework and google Billy Robinson.
The Grayson Waller Effect
Waller hosts a segment spoofing late night talk shows like The Tonight Show. Waller even has a desk and everything. There is also a weird picture-in-picture aspect. An inset shows a medium shot of Waller at all times. Very odd.
Apollo Crews joins Waller as his guest. They waste no time in bickering, but the arguing seems like a waste of time at first. Then there is some real shade.
Waller brings up Crews having a fake accent, which was part of a character on the main roster. Crews responds well and says he will always be a “Nigerian warrior.”
Crews and Waller continue to bicker back and worth. Waller accuses Crews of breaking up Diamond Mine. They both get out of their chairs as they bicker some more.
Crews calls Waller a “low budget version of The Miz.” The crowd taunts Waller with a chant.
Waller insults Crews by asking Crews what he tells his kids about daddy not being able to cut it on Mondays and Fridays. Very inside baseball.
Crews says he tells his kids that dad was a champ on Monday, a champ on Friday, and Crews will soon be a champ on Tuesday. Crews then decks Waller with a punch.
Crews stands over a fallen Waller and says that is the “Apollo Crews effect.”
Pretty Deadly argues backstage with Gallus, and Gallus had to be held back.
A vignette features hype building up the NXT UK Champion.
McKenzie Mitchell interviews Mr. Stone and Von Wagner, and they cut a promo on Bate ahead of a match later on tonight with Bate against Wagner.
Cameron Grimes defeats Javier Bernal
Grimes pins Bernal in Bernal’s 2.0 debut match. Joe Gacy & The Schism (not a band name by the way) watch from a perch overlooking the ring.
Bernal was cocky and confident going into the match, then he loses clean. Heck of a way to get him over a new character.
Bernal showed a lot of fire and he got plenty of offense, but he also gets dropped on his face at one point.
For the finish, Grimes delivers a Cave In before scoring a pinfall. Grimes looks good in the ring as usual.
A vignette highlights Blair Davenport ahead of her debut match tonight on NXT 2.0.
Alba Fyre in a pre-tape promo warns the NXT roster: where there is smoke, there is Fyre.
Blair Davenport defeats Indi Hartwell
Davenport pins Hartwell to win the match.
They have a competitive match, but this is a showcase for Davenport. She executes a high angle brainbuster that looks like it was a struggle. Hartwell lands badly, and Davenport covers her for a pinfall.
Davenport is not done. She attacks Hartwell after the match, and Davenport delivers a hard knee strike. Davenport then grabs the house mic.
Davenport brags about herself, saying she just wasted one of this roster’s best. Davenport goes on to lay claim to the NXT Women’s Championship.
NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose interrupts Davenport for a confrontation.
Meiko Satomura arrives in NXT 2.0
Mandy Rose gets in the ring to tell Davenport that Rose herself is the most dominant women’s champion in NXT. Rose reminds everyone to put some respect on her name.
In a glorious surprise, NXT United Kingdom Women’s Champion Meiko Satomura enters the soundstage to join the confrontation.
Satomura gets in the ring to confront Rose to tell Rose that Satomura herself is the most dominant champion.
Rose calls Satomura a legend, but Rose also says that the best way to put some respect on her name is to beat a legend like Satomura.
Satomura challenges Rose to a champion vs. champion match at Worlds Collide. Davenports chimes in, demanding they not forget about her, as Davenport is the number one contender. So, Satomura makes it a triple threat match instead, seemingly with both championships still on the line.
Tiffany Stratton in a backstage interview claims she is superior to Wendy Choo. She then says “the unified title” (called just that) will be all about her.
Tony D’Angelo basically tells the former members of Legado del Fantasma that tonight starts a clean slate with them.
JD McDonagh is convalescing over his loss to Bron Breakker, but McDonagh warns that he pain tolerance for Breakker only grows. McDonagh sarcastically wishes Breakker luck at Worlds Collide, and McDonagh says he will “see you on the other side.”
Wes Lee is talking with the new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance. They are all confident, but this did not seem to lead anymore.
Dexter Lumis returns and In-Dex reunites
Indi Hartwell is sitting on the ring apron and she is sad. Hartwell says this is rock bottom for her. It sucks. Hartwell blames herself, saying she is the problem.
Hartwell is bemoaning her run of bad luck when Dexter Lumis appears across the ring behind her. She turns, and their eyes meet for an enchanting moment. They crawl into the ring and meet face to face. They hug in an embrace, and then they kiss.
Lumis carries away Hartwell in his arms. In-Dex is together again, albeit for a brief moment. They go backstage, where Lumis hands Hartwell a folded piece of paper.
Sirens are seen flashing outside as Lumis exits the building. Law enforcement officers move in on Lumis, and they take him into custody. Hartwell unfolds the piece of paper, and it is a love note.
Cora Jade cuts a heel promo where she insults the viewing audience.
The Dyad (Rip Fowler & Jagger Reid with Joe Gacy) defeats The D’Angelo Family (Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro with Tony D’Angelo & Elektra Lopez)
Fowler pins Wilde to win the match, after The Dyad execute a double team finisher.
Cameron Grimes watches the match from perch overlooking the ring, similarly to how Schism was watching him earlier in the show.
D’Aneglo yells at Wilde and Del Toro after the match.
Later on, Santos Escobar pulls up driving a SUV. Wilde, Cruz, and Lopez are in the parking lot when Escobar lowers down the window to tell them he did not leave without them. La familia sticks together, so Escobar tells them to get in the SUV. And away they go.
Javier Bernal has words with Hank Walker, after Bernal is rude to a woman backstage.
NXT United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate defeats Von Wagner (with Mr. Stone) in a non-title match
Bate pins Wagner clean to win the match.
David against Goliath much of the way as Wagner dominates Bate. The UK champ fights from underneath. Wagner is manhandling Bate when Mr. Stone instructs Wagner to throw Bate out of the ring. Instead, Bate counters Wagner.
Comeback by Bate leads to him leaping over the ropes into a dive to the outside. Wagner soon cuts off Bate, and Wagner again manhandles Bate. Yet, Bate continues to fight back.
Bate slingshots off the ropes into a lariat that takes Wagner down to a knee. Bate goes for another slingshot, but Wagner gets back to his feet to catch Bate with a gozzle.
Bate counters a chokeslam, and he nails Wagner with the “Bob and Bang” left jab. Kobbo kick by Bate, and he follows with a suplex on Wagner that positions Wagner for the finish.
Bate leaps off the top rope, and Bate lands a twisting corkscrew senton on Wagner. Bate then scores a three count.
Roderick Strong is arguing with the Creed Brothers in the locker room when they are interrupted by Briggs & Jensen. The Creeds hold the NXT Tag Team Championship, while Briggs & Jensen hold the NXT UK tag straps. This leads to a challenge for a titles for titles match at Worlds Collide. Another unification match is set.
Matches announced for next Tuesday on NXT include:
Mixed six-person tag match where Lash Legend teams with Pretty Deadly against Fallon Henley, Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen
Six-man tag match with Diamond Mine against Gallus
Apollo Crews vs. Grayson Waller
Wendy Choo defeats Tiffany Stratton in a Lights Out match
Choo pins Stratton in a no DQ match. Lots of weapons and gimmicks help the match, but a bad lighting gimmick detracts from the action itself.
Choo got a special entrance where she woke up on a bed that was sitting on top of the entrance ramp. While Choo is wearing her usual onesie pajamas when she wakes up, she takes off the onesie to reveal new gear. Choo for the match is wearing a romper singlet and kickpad socks.
The lights dim in the soundstage since it is “lights out” for the match. Similar to the Sin Cara gimmick from years ago, the ring is bathed in a blue light while the rest of the soundstage appears dark. The lighting made it hard to see the action itself.
They brawl out of the ring at the start of the match, and Choo dumps a trash can on Stratton. Choo then hits the trash can with a tennis racket that Stratton has brought to the ring.
More weapons come into play as Stratton empties a tool box. The live studio audience chants for tables, because of course they do.
The brawling continues as the match goes through a split screen commercial break. With the dark lighting, the action is even harder to see in a split screen.
No water in the pool when Stratton goes for a moonsault press, leading to a rally by Choo. Stratton is dropped onto a folding chair with a brainbuster by Choo.
Choo chokes Stratton with the a spare piece of turnbuckle. Stratton crawls towards her purse. Stratton grabs an aerosol can out of her purse, and Stratton sprays Choo in the face with an unknown substance.
Stratton powerbombs Choo on a trash can, crunching the can. Choo still manages to kick out for a near fall.
Choo retrieves a loaded pillow, and Choo clobbers Stratton with the pillow. The pillow case is filled with Lego pieces, and Choo dumps the Legos out on the mat. Legos spill out into a pile.
Stratton gives Choo a fallaway slam that seemingly is supposed to send Choo into a bump on the pile of Legos. Except the slam comes up short, and Choo misses the Legos. So, they call an audible, and Stratton gives Choo a scoop slam on Legos.
Stratton gets her purse again, but that backfire on her. Stratton attempts to throw makeup powder, but Choo counters by kicking the powder into Stratton’s face. Choo then puts Stratton through a bed frame with an uranage slam.
Choo jumps off the top rope into a super Vader splash, and Choos scores the deciding pinfall on Stratton.
The episode closes with a backstage scene where the contracts are being signed for the men’s and women’s title unification matches at Worlds Collide.

**********
The show opens with Diamond Mine backstage getting ready for a match. Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp are set to kick off the show as a tag team. Strong tells Ivy Nile and the Creed Brothers they have the night off.
The rift within Diamond Mine continues. Strong & Kemp head to the ring, leaving the rest behind. Nile asks what is going on. Julius Creed remarks, “This is not going to work out.”
Despite tension with the others, Strong has a strong bond with Kemp. Strong is acting as his coach and mentor. Taking him under his wing, which plays into the story of the opening match.
NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) defeat Diamond Mine (Damon Kemp & Roderick Strong) in a non-title match
Strong drops the fall after being distracted by outside interference from his own stable. This plays off an previous finish where Strong interfered in a Creed Brothers match, except Diamond Mine won that match. They lost here.
Kemp gets to shine, and he shows a lot of fire. When he first tagged in, he has to struggle for a moment. After taunted by Pretty Deadly, Strong slaps Kemp. This fires up Kemp, and he explodes with a fury.
Diamond Mine remains in control, and they execute stereo backbreakers on Pretty Deadly as the show cuts to a split-screen commercial. When the show returns from the commercial break, the tide has turned.
Pretty Deadly works over Kemp, until he able to tag out. Strong runs wild after the hot tag. Meanwhile, Kemp is down selling at ringside. As he tries to get back on the apron, he is shoved into the ring steps.
A tag belt is brought into the ring as the heel champs attempt to cheat. They try to use the belt as weapon, but the Creeds runs down to the ring. Julius Creed takes the bullet, as he is hit with the belt shot.
Strong attempts to capitalize by using an O’Connor Roll, but he is unable to score a pin. Brutus Creed yells at him from ringside, distracting Strong. Pretty Deadly deliver Spilt Milk on Strong, and he is pinned for a three count.
A pre-taped skit sets up a match for later tonight with Josh Briggs challenging Grayson Waller.
Sit-down leads to a challenge
Tony D’Angelo and his crew arrive at Santos Escobar’s yacht for a sit-down meeting with Legado del Fantasma. The boat head out to sea after Elektra Lopez says to take them somewhere nice.
The conversation turns heated in the meeting between the two factions. This is very well produced, despite being silly at times. Eventually, D’Angelo grows angry. He challenges Escobar to a six-man tag match at In Your House.
D’Angelo sneers at Escobar, telling him to look him in the eye. He also calls Escobar a “prick.” D’Angelo then proposes an added stipulation. Whichever teams loses, they must join the opposing family and takes orders from them.
Escobar accepts the challenge, and tells D’Angelo they have a deal. They shake on it. The six-man tag match is official for In Your House.
Cora Jade defeats Elektra Lopez
Jade pins Lopez to win. Lopez as alone in this match without her faction at ringside. She goes on to loss, after taking almost all of the offense. Jade fights from underneath as a babyface in peril.
They are fighting on the apron when Jade lands a knee strike. Lopez falls backwards to the mat in position for the finish, where Jade jumps off the top rope with a senton bomb. Jade goes on score a three count on Lopez.
McKenzie Mitchell interviews Wes Lee, and Lee throws shade at Xyon Quinn. Sanga enters the scene, and he gives Lee a pep talk. Last week, Sanga turned face after saving Lee from a beatdown.
A vignette profiles Roxanne Perez, and it was great video package. It shows her at a young age meeting the Bella Twins and Natalya before a house show in Laredo. It also features clips of Perez training at Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling academy. Perez details her journey and the sacrifices along the way. She vows to make her dreams come true next week by winning the Women’s Breakout Tournament.
Wes Lee defeats Xyon Quinn
Lee pins Quinn to win, after Lee sold the whole match.
This match finally happened after being delayed several times. Similar story to the women’s match that precedes it on this show, where the babyface is in peril for the whole match. In the the end though, the face counters to win the match.
Quinn bullies and manhandles Lee in the match. Quinn eventually uses a Snake Eyes where he launches Lee into the middle turnbuckle like a lawn dart.
USA Network censors a “holy s***” chant as Quinn signals for his finisher. Quinn takes a bit too long, allowing Lee a last ditch effort. Lee counters Quinn catch him with a roll-up, and Lee scores a pin out of nowhere.
Roderick Strong is in the Diamond Mine locker room, and he is yelling at his stable for interfering in the match earlier tonight. Strong reprimands them for disobeying him. Strong tells the Creeds and Nile that they are out of Diamond Mine if they lose the tag title match at In Your House.
Joe Gacy in a pre-tape promo says a bunch of gibberish that is supposed to build anticipation for him challenging Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship.
Breakker is doing a backstage interview when the lights flicker and a voice from above haunts him. Breakker picks up a monitor, presumably to smash. He instead sits it back down after realizing Gacy was trying to get into his head. Breakker vows to win at IYH.
NXT Women’s Championship Summit
A table is set up in the ring. On one side is Toxic Attraction, which includes the NXT Women’s Champion and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. On the other side of the table are the challengers.
Katana Chance & Kayden Carter are set to challenge Jacy Jaybe & Gigi Dolan for the tag titles at IYH. Wendo Choo also challenges Mandy Rose for the singles title at IYH.
In this “summit” there is a lot of bickering back-and-forth. The challengers keep telling the heel trio to sign the contracts, and the live studio audience starts a chant heckling the heels into signing.
Mandy Rose still manages to get through her promo, and then she signs the contract for her match at IYH. Choo in return hits Rose with a spitwad like this was elementary school.
Rose attacks Choo, and a melee ensues. The table is turned upside down as everyone brawls. Chance & Carter do dives the outside. The babyface trio cleans house, leading to Choo putting Rose through a table with a splash off the top rope. USA Network censors a “holy s***” chant as the babyfaces stand tall.
Kiana James confronts Ivy Nile backstage, and James chides Nile about the Creeds chances at IYH. Nile snaps on James (who has an Alexandra York gimmick), and pushes James against a locker. This sets up a match for later on.
Solo Sikoa defeats Duke Hudson
Sikoa pins Hudson after a Superfly splash. Sikoa’s push continues as he is the next challenger in line for a shot at the NXT North American Championship.
Sikoa shines early on, until he is cut off. Hudson briefly works over Sikoa, but Sikoa soon makes a comeback. Sikoa is a house of fire in the closing moments.
Umaga splash by Sikoa, followed by a Superfly splash. Sikoa then covers Hudson for a clean pinfall.
A vignette highlights Tiffany Stratton ahead of her meeting Roxanne Perez in the finals of the Women’s Breakout Tournament.
Thea Hail graduated from high school last weekend, and tonight she chooses the college she plans to attend. In a swerve, Hail announces she plans to attend Chase University. All those skits with Hail over the last few weeks make sense now, it was all an angle. Clever.
Grayson Waller defeats Josh Briggs
Waller pins Briggs after Von Wagner causes a distraction.
Waller grabs the house microphone, and he insults Briggs before the match. This fires up Briggs.
Baiting in Briggs, Waller uses a cheap shot to gain the upper hand. After a double down, Sofia Cromwell and Mr. Stone enter the soundstage. They come down to ringside.
Comeback by Briggs, and he begins to mow down Waller. Von Wagner appears at ringside, and he jumps on the ring apron to cause a distraction. Waller rolls through and pops up into a cutter on a distracted Briggs.
Capitalizing on the outside interference, Waller goes on to pin Briggs. Wagner jumps Briggs after the match. He is called off by Cromwell.
Ivy Nile defeats Kiana James
Nile pins James to win clean.
The trend on this show continues where the loser of the match gets the most offense during the bout itself. Nile at the finish fires up with a series of kicks, and Nile executes a powerslam to set up the pinfall.
Pretty Deadly comes to the ring after the match, and the cut a promo on Diamond Mine. Pretty Deadly attempts to surround Nile in the ring, but the Creeds come to Nile’s rescue. They face off with Pretty Deadly, and the Creeds send them packing after getting the better of a tussle.
A vignette hypes the arrival of Giovanni Vinci. He is sophisticated and loves to show it. His is coming soon to NXT.
NXT North American Champion Cameron Grimes defeats Nathan Frazier in a non-title match
Grimes pins Frazier in a really fun babyface match. Lots of action in this fast paced match. Frazier is far better in the ring that his win-loss record in NXT might indicate.
Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams are at ringside at the announce desk providing guest commentary. Hayes challenges Grimes in a title match on Saturday.
Babyface match here tonight as neither plays heel. Grimes and Frazier wrestle through a split-screen commercial break. They set a far faster pace than any other match on tonight’s card.
They trade near falls in what is described on commentary as a “high octane” match. Great action in the closing moments as the pace quickened even more.
Frazier was looking strong as he got to shine. Frazier dives through the ropes to the outside just before the finishing sequence. Frazier then climbs the turnbuckles.
Grimes counters Frazier to deliver an avalanche overhead suplex off the ropes. Grimes then delivers a Cave In, and he covers Frazier for the deciding pinfall.
Hayes attempts to jump Grimes after the match, but he is thwarted by Grimes. Williams pulls Hayes out of the ring, and they back away as the show closes.
Final Thoughts
This episode seemed less like a go-home show, and more like filler programming. However, there was clearly a lot of hype on this show for In Your House. Not sure if that translates into a lot of interest.

The finals of this year’s women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has been set.
The team of Io Shirai and Kay Lee Ray will take on Wendy Choo and Dakota Kai in the finals. This is after Shrai and Ray defeated Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter, while Choo and Kai defeated Raquel Gonzalez and Cora Jade. It was not said when the finals would take place.
During the Choo & Kai vs. Gonzalez & Jade match, Gigi Dolan struck Gonzalez in the knee from behind with a foreign object. Gonzalez’s knee buckled towards the finish, allowing Kai to pick up the victory with a foot stomp off the top rope. Later in the night, Jade attacked Mandy Rose, who was in her own personal lounge watching the second semifinal match.
Shirai & Ray defeated Catanzaro & Carter after Ray connected with the KLR bomb on Carter, with Shirai getting the pinfall following the moonsault.
