Steel cage stipulation added to AAA Triplemania Regia main event

The main event of Triplemania Regia this weekend will be contested inside of a steel cage.

At Sunday’s event in Monterrey, Mexico, El Hijo del Vikingo is putting his AAA Mega Championship on the line against Alberto El Patron. It’s now been confirmed to be a steel cage match with Lucha Libre AAA adding the stipulation after it was requested by El Patron.

This is a rematch from their May 31 meeting where Vikingo defeated El Patron to become the new Mega Champion. That title change took place in advance of AAA’s Worlds Collide event with WWE, which was headlined by Vikingo representing AAA and defeating WWE’s Chad Gable to retain the title.

At a Triplemania Regia press conference yesterday, there was an angle where El Patron attacked Vikingo to build up their match.

There are no U.S. broadcast plans for Triplemania Regia, but matches will air in Mexico on Max and Space. The full card is listed below:

Vikingo vs. Alberto El Patron rematch to headline AAA Triplemania Regia

Ahead of the event taking place this weekend, Lucha Libre AAA held a press conference to finalize the card for Triplemania Regia.

Two new title matches have been added to Sunday’s event in Monterrey. In the main event, El Hijo del Vikingo will put his AAA Mega Championship on the line in a rematch against Alberto El Patron. The TNA X-Division Championship will also be up for grabs at Triplemania Regia with Moose defending in a four-way match against Joe Hendry, El Mesias, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.

Vikingo won the Mega title from El Patron on May 31, becoming champion in time for AAA’s Worlds Collide event with WWE. He made a successful title defense against Chad Gable at that show.

AAA is in the process of being acquired by WWE with the deal expected to be finalized in the third quarter of this year. It remains to be seen whether El Patron — a former WWE World Champion as Alberto Del Rio — will be involved in any crossover to WWE given his past.

An angle took place at today’s press conference where El Patron attacked Vikingo to build up their match.

Moose, Hendry, and Nic & Ryan Nemeth are representing TNA at Sunday’s AAA show. The Nemeths will take part in a four-way match for the AAA Tag Team titles.

There have been no U.S. broadcast plans announced for Triplemania Regia. In Mexico, matches will air on Max and Space.

Here is the announced card:

Tag Team title four-way match set for AAA Triplemania Regia

The Lucha Libre AAA Tag Team titles will be on the line in a four-way match at Triplemania Regia this weekend.

It was already known that WWE team Los Garza (Angel & Berto) would be challenging Forastero & Sanson at the Sunday, June 15 event in Monterrey. Now, AAA has confirmed that it will be a four-way match with Forastero & Sanson vs. Angel & Berto vs. Psycho Clown & Pagano vs. Nic & Ryan Nemeth.

The Nemeths are the current TNA Tag Team Champions, but those belts are not being defended here. TNA will also be represented at Triplemania Regia with Joe Hendry and Moose appearing.

Forastero & Sanson won the AAA Tag Team titles this March, becoming champions after the belts were vacated by Raj Dhesi (the former Jinder Mahal) & Satnam Singh.

It is not known if fans in the United States will be able to watch Triplemania Regia live. In Mexico, it will be broadcast on Max.

AAA is in the process of being acquired by WWE with the deal expected to be finalized in the third quarter of this year. El Hijo del Vikingo, who recently won the AAA Mega Championship from Alberto El Patron, retained the title against Chad Gable at WWE & AAA’s Worlds Collide event over the weekend. Vikingo is expected to have a title defense at Triplemania Regia against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.

Hijo del Vikingo wins AAA Mega title at Triplemania Regia

Hijo del Vikingo is the new AAA Mega Champion.

Vikingo pinned Samuray del Sol in a five-way match to determine a new champion. Others in the match included Bandido and AEW’s Bobby Fish and Jay Lethal. Vikingo won the match after pinning the former Kalisto with an inverted 450 splash. After the match, the rest of the technicos came out and celebrated with Vikingo to close out the show.

The match for Triplemania Regia was originally set to be a singles championship match between Vikingo and champion Kenny Omega for the title. However, Omega announced in a video that he would be unable to make it to Triplemania. Omega has taken time off following AEW’s Full Gear event last month in order to recover from various injuries. As a result, the multi-man match for the vacant title was set instead.

The other title match on the show saw AEW’s FTR successfully defend the AAA Tag Team titles against The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. and Fenix) in what ended up being a ladder match. Vickie Guerrero, who accompanied FTR to ringside, interfered by throwing powder at Pentagon Jr., who then fell off the ladder through a table, allowing Dax Harwood to grab the titles.

Taya Valkyrie, Cibernetico make AAA return at Triplemania Regia

Taya Valkyrie, as well as Cibernetico, made their returns at tonight’s Triplemania Regia event.

In a video that aired following the first match of tonight’s Triplemania, Valkyrie appeared via video and called out the current Reina de Reinas champion Deonna Purrazzo, saying that Purrazzo had something that belonged to her, the championship.

Cibernetico interrupted a Konnan promo and told him that he was not going to let Konnan do whatever he wanted. He also appeared after a three way trios match, helping the Vipers stable by clearing out members of NGD and Nuevo Poder del Norte.

Valkyrie wrestled in AAA from 2012 until 2020, winning Reina de Reinas Championship three times. She joined WWE in February of this year and briefly competed in NXT before being released on November 4.

Cibernetico was a major star in AAA in the 1990s and 2000s having won the Mega Championship one time and the Campeon de Campeones Championship on three occasions. He has not been with the company since 2015.

Bandido added to Mega title match at AAA Triplemania Regia

The multi-man match for the vacant AAA Mega Championship at Triplemania Regia is now fully set.

Bandido is the current ROH World Champion. He’s set to defend that title against Jonathan Gresham at Final Battle on Saturday, December 11. ROH will be going on hiatus for the first quarter of 2022 after Final Battle, and talent won’t have their contracts renewed.

The Mega Championship match at Triplemania Regia was originally scheduled to be Kenny Omega defending against Vikingo, but Omega had to vacate the title due to injury.

A new member of the AEW roster has been added to the Mega Championship match at Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania Regia.

AAA announced today that Jay Lethal will be part of the multi-man match for the vacant Mega Championship at Triplemania Regia on Saturday, December 4. El Hijo del Vikingo and Samuray del Sol (formerly known as Kalisto in WWE) have also been confirmed for the match.

There are two more wrestlers left to be announced for the multi-man title match.

Kenny Omega was originally scheduled to defend the Mega Championship against Vikingo at Triplemania Regia, but Omega had to relinquish the title due to injury.

Lethal cut a promo saying that this opportunity gives him the chance to add his name to AAA history by winning the Mega Championship. Lethal said he feels bad for Omega, but what’s bad for him is great for Lethal.

Lethal made his AEW debut by appearing at Full Gear earlier this month. He unsuccessfully challenged for Sammy Guevara’s TNT Championship on the post-Full Gear episode of Dynamite.

Kenny Omega vs. Hijo del Vikingo set for AAA Triplemania Regia

Kenny Omega and El Hijo del Vikingo are set to face off for the AAA Mega Championship.

At a press conference on Monday, Lucha Libre AAA announced that Omega vs. Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship will take place at Triplemania Regia on Saturday, December 4. The show is taking place at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Omega has held the AAA Mega Championship since defeating Fenix for the title in October 2019. He’s since had title defenses against Jack Evans, Dragon Lee, Sammy Guevara, Laredo Kid, and Andrade El Idolo.

When asked about Vikingo after that title defense against Andrade, Omega called Vikingo one of the greatest high-flyers that he’s ever seen. Omega compared him to wrestlers like Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Fenix, saying that Vikingo is the new special wrestler. Omega challenged Vikingo to stand in line and see if he measures up to the champ.

Cain Velasquez will be in action at Triplemania Regia, teaming with Psycho Clown & Pagano against Rey Escorpion, Black Taurus, and a surprise partner. The Lucha Brothers and Dragon Lee & Dralistico have also been announced for the show.

Luchablog notes that AAA’s Dorian Roldan said that The Lucha Brothers and Lee & Dralistico may face AAA Tag Team Champions FTR at Triplemania Regia, but AAA is still working out the details of that with AEW.
