Rey Fenix not injured, tag team match for Triplemania Regia still on

AEW Tag Team Champion Rey Fenix is not injured and will still be participating in this Saturday’s Triplemania Regia, according to Dave Meltzer.

On Wednesday’s Dynamite, Fenix was not on the show and in storyline, his absence was explained as injury-related. Meltzer said the real reason was due to “travel difficulties” so he was not at the Duluth, Georgia, show.

As a result, the scheduled two-out-of-three falls Tag Team title match between Fenix and Penta El Zero M vs. FTR for Friday’s Rampage didn’t take place as planned. Instead, it was Penta and PAC against FTR in a traditional tag match.

However, Meltzer said that Penta and Fenix will compete as scheduled for Saturday’s Triplemania Regia as they challenge FTR for the AAA Tag Team titles.

Saturday’s pay-per-view in Monterrey, Mexico, will be headlined by a five-way for the vacant AAA Mega Championship between Hijo del Vikingo, Samuray del Sol, Jay Lethal, Bandido and Bobby Fish.

Bobby Fish is the latest addition to the AAA Mega Championship match at Triplemania Regia.

It was announced today that Fish will be taking part in the multi-man match for the vacant Mega Championship at Triplemania Regia, joining El Hijo del Vikingo, Samuray del Sol (formerly known as Kalisto in WWE), and Jay Lethal. There’s still one more wrestler left to be announced for the match.

Triplemania Regia is taking place on Saturday, December 4. Kenny Omega was originally supposed to defend the Mega Championship against Vikingo at the show, but Omega had to vacate the title due to injury.

Lucha Libre AAA posted video of a promo by Fish and Adam Cole announcing Fish’s addition to the title match. Cole called the title the “Omega Championship” and said it belongs in AEW. Cole said he had the perfect man to take care of business — Bobby Fish.

Fish signed with AEW after being released by WWE during a round of NXT roster cuts this August. Fish had his first match for AEW in October.

The top four matches from Triplemania Regia will be available live via Fite TV. Cain Velasquez, Psycho Clown & Pagano vs. LA Park, Rey Escorpion & Taurus and a AAA Tag Team title match between FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) and The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) are two of the other matches that will be airing.

A new member of the AEW roster has been added to the Mega Championship match at Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania Regia.

AAA announced today that Jay Lethal will be part of the multi-man match for the vacant Mega Championship at Triplemania Regia on Saturday, December 4. El Hijo del Vikingo and Samuray del Sol (formerly known as Kalisto in WWE) have also been confirmed for the match.

There are two more wrestlers left to be announced for the multi-man title match.

Kenny Omega was originally scheduled to defend the Mega Championship against Vikingo at Triplemania Regia, but Omega had to relinquish the title due to injury.

Lethal cut a promo saying that this opportunity gives him the chance to add his name to AAA history by winning the Mega Championship. Lethal said he feels bad for Omega, but what’s bad for him is great for Lethal.

Lethal made his AEW debut by appearing at Full Gear earlier this month. He unsuccessfully challenged for Sammy Guevara’s TNT Championship on the post-Full Gear episode of Dynamite.

Triplemania Regia is taking place at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. Cain Velasquez, Psycho Clown & Pagano vs. LA Park, Rey Escorpion & Taurus is among the other matches set for the show, along with FTR defending their AAA Tag Team titles against The Lucha Brothers.

Kenny Omega vs. Hijo del Vikingo set for AAA Triplemania Regia

Kenny Omega and El Hijo del Vikingo are set to face off for the AAA Mega Championship.

At a press conference on Monday, Lucha Libre AAA announced that Omega vs. Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship will take place at Triplemania Regia on Saturday, December 4. The show is taking place at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico.

Omega has held the AAA Mega Championship since defeating Fenix for the title in October 2019. He’s since had title defenses against Jack Evans, Dragon Lee, Sammy Guevara, Laredo Kid, and Andrade El Idolo.

When asked about Vikingo after that title defense against Andrade, Omega called Vikingo one of the greatest high-flyers that he’s ever seen. Omega compared him to wrestlers like Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Fenix, saying that Vikingo is the new special wrestler. Omega challenged Vikingo to stand in line and see if he measures up to the champ.

Cain Velasquez will be in action at Triplemania Regia, teaming with Psycho Clown & Pagano against Rey Escorpion, Black Taurus, and a surprise partner. The Lucha Brothers and Dragon Lee & Dralistico have also been announced for the show.

Luchablog notes that AAA’s Dorian Roldan said that The Lucha Brothers and Lee & Dralistico may face AAA Tag Team Champions FTR at Triplemania Regia, but AAA is still working out the details of that with AEW.
