Stipulation added to key match at TNA Bound for Glory

Note: The following is a spoiler for this Thursday’s TNA Impact.

For their final ever battle at October’s TNA Bound for Glory, The Hardys and Team 3D have raised the stakes.

First reported by ProWrestling.net’s Jason Powell via Wade Keller of PWTorch, the encounter between Matt & Jeff Hardy and Bully Ray & D-Von will not only be for the TNA World Tag Team titles but also a tables match.

The development occurred during Friday’s TV taping in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an in-ring segment billed as their “final negotiation.” Unlike when the match was first made at Slammiversary, D-Von was in attendance alongside Bully Ray.

It will be the first time the two teams have met since a House of Glory four-way in December 2016. Before that, the two teams feuded with The Wolves over the TNA tag titles in the fall of 2014. Their last straight-up tag match against each other took place in June of that same year. Their famed rivalry goes back to the fall of 1999 in WWE.

We are still looking for full results from the entire taping. Please send them to [email protected] if you were in attendance.

Big Vinny V: TNA Bound for Glory recap

Image: TNA

Last Saturday featured TNA Wrestling’s biggest show of the year — Bound for Glory — with some very high highs and a few very low lows.

The highs: Vikingo vs. “Speedball” Mike Bailey in a spectacular X-Division showcase, PCO vs. Matt Cardona destroying each other for our entertainment; and Masha Slamovich vs. Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts title in one of the company’s best matches all year.

The lows? A string of referees who did not understand the assignment, most notably Frankie Kazarian, and wishy-washy booking that completely ruined the Nic Nemeth vs. Joe Hendry World title match.

We break it all down on the newest Big Vinny V Show!

October 30, 2006 Observer Newsletter: Pride Real Deal, TNA Bound for Glory

In what will be the biggest weekend in MMA history, the first New Year’s Eve match is now official.

K-1 announced on 10/24 that Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Kazushi Sakuraba would be one of the main events on New Year’s Eve at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka. That match was originally scheduled for the 10/9 Hero’s show at the Yokohama Arena as the semifinal of the 187-pound tournament, but Sakuraba had to pull out due to a nerve issue restricting the flow of blood to the lower part of the brain.

Akiyama won the tournament, upsetting Melvin Mahoef in the finals, and a match with Sakuraba was expected for the biggest night of the year in Japan. Sakuraba said he expected to be at 80%, and using pro wrestling terminology, said he would be willing to go in a judo jacket match (judo jacket match was the pro wrestling terminology for a match where both competitors wear gis, a gimmick used in Japan and California when former champions in judo like Anton Geesink, Gene LeBell, Willem Ruska and Badnews Allen and Seiji Sakaguchi used it as a gimmick match–Sakuraba would have grown up seeing the gimmick).

October 31, 2005 Observer Newsletter: The Crusher passes away, TNA Bound for Glory

When Steve Austin hit big as a beer drinking anti-authority heel turned face in 1997, a lot of people tried to credit it toward some kind of a social shift in values. But I remember when it was suggested to me, I knew it was bunk. Steve Austin was nothing more than a modern rendition of the “man of the people” babyface, who isn’t pretty, but in the end, the people have confidence is the toughest man in the ring and will always get the job done in the end.

Look no further than The Crusher, who in the Midwest during the 60s and 70s was the predecessor of Stone Cold. He was the man known as “The wrestler who made Milwaukee famous,” a take off a popular Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer commercial with the phrase, “The beer that made Milwaukee famous,” at the time.

A former weightlifter, who had a herculean physique based on the standards of the pre-steroid era when he broke into the business in the around 1950, Reggie Lisowski was the top heel, who became the top babyface, and more than Verne Gagne or anyone else, truly carried the AWA territory.
