Our live coverage starts at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

– Michael Cole welcomed everyone into the first-ever SmackDown in Puerto Rico. The stage was less a stage and more an entry way as Rey Mysterio and the LWO made their entrance to a hot crowd.

The LWO/Judgement Day Segment

Mysterio spoke in mostly Spanish before Zelina Vega went to speak, but the Judgement Day’s music hit and interrupted her. Dominik took an LWO shirt from someone in the crowd and ripped it in half to a chorus of boos before the faction entered the ring.

Dominik began to speak, but the boos forced him to stop. Dom eventually called Rey a deadbeat dad. Rey responded in Spanish to huge pops from the crowd. Rey called for a WrestleMania rematch and Rhea Ripley stepped forward to say that Rey should fight her.

Vega then stepped forward and the two women had a stare down. Dominik came back and challenged Vega and Rey to fight Rhea and Dom. Rey spoke in Spanish again to a huge reaction from the crowd. Rhea said they’re on and the Judgement Day left the ring – but not before Dom got in a cheap shot on Rey.

**********

The OC [Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson] defeated The Viking Raiders [Ivar & Eric]  [8:07]

This was a fun opening match made almost entirely by the hot crowd. Turns out Puerto Rico loves them some OC and to be fair, it was one of the rare instances Gallows looked inspired in a WWE ring. The crowd chanted “Uno, Dos, Tres” as the pinfall commenced and it was a ton of fun. Man. This crowd made this show.

AJ Styles sat in on commentary. The Viking Raiders had control early. Anderson fought back and eventually took Erik down with a dropkick to the leg before Gallows and Ivar tagged in and the two big men fought. The OC introduced something Styles called the “Brother Me Softly,” which was essentially an assisted kick to the head. The break spot came when Michin and Valhalla confronted each other on the outside.

Back from break, The Viking Raiders had control until Gallows received the hot tag and the crowd was as excited as he was. Gallowed cleaned house. Gallows landed a modified power-bomb on Ivar for a good near-fall. Erik tagged in and slammed Gallows and Ivar came off the top for another good near-fall that Anderson broke up.

On the outside, Michin laid out Valhalla. Inside the ring, The OC hit the Magic Killer for the win.

**********

– Bianca Belair made her entrance and had a microphone. Michael Cole said if Belair wins at Backlash, she’ll be the “longest reigning women’s champion of the modern era,” and I’m not quite sure what that entails, but let’s go with it. Belair said Iyo Sky is unpredictable and dangerous, but Belair has faced the best of the best. Belair said she will show up and show out. Belair reiterated Cole’s assertion about being the longest reigning champion, but Damage CTRL’s music cut Belair off.

Bayley had a microphone and she mocked Belair as her faction walked to the ring. Bayley said she made Belair on SmackDown. Bayley called Belair conceded. Bayley said Sky will put an end to Belair’s “history party” at Backlash. Bayley noted that her and Dakota Kai want to become the new women’s tag champs. Damage CTRL surrounded the ring and ultimately, Sky got the best of Belair with a shotgun dropkick. Damage CTRL was working over Belair, but Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez ran down to even the odds. They cleared the ring of the heels.

**********

– Karrion Kross was shown backstage talking about how people don’t know who they think they are. Kross said he will plant another seed tonight to reap and that would come in the form of Nakamura.

– The Street Profits made their entrance through the crowd.

**********

– We got a video package recapping The Usos vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens last week. From there, we went backstage to find the Usos trying to hype up Solo Sikoa, who remained mostly silent until Sikoa said at Backlash, he will do his part. Sikoa said the Usos better do their part at Backlash and walked away.

The Street Profits defeated Imperium [Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci] [2:42]

This was far too short. I understand the appeal of having these teams on the show – especially with Imperium heading to Raw – but with even three more minutes, this could have been consequential. Instead, it felt like an elongated squash that hurt Imperium more than it helped it.

Ludwig Kaiser and Montez Ford started the match, with Kaiser getting the best of it. Giovanni Vinci hit a frog splash onto both Profits on the outside, which was impressive. Kaiser worked over Ford for a good portion of the first third of the match. Ford eventually came back with a back suplex and a hot tag to Angelo Dawkins, who took out Vinci. Ford hit the big frog splash from the top and that was it.

**********

– We got a video package recapping the Cody Rhodes/Brock Lesnar program.

– Cody Rhodes made his entrance and the crowd sang every gosh-darn word of his theme. Cody asked what the crowd wanted to talk about in Spanish. Cody talked about how Brock Lesnar is standing in the way of Cody getting to the kingdom. Cody said Brock picked a fight with him and he said Brock has yet to explain why he picked the fight. Cody said he will beat the reason out of him at Backlash. Cody fired up the crowd to end the promo.

– Nakamura was interviewed backstage and Nakamura said “Come on!” before his music began to play. Michael Cole congratulated Pat McAfee on the birth of his child. Nakamura made his entrance.

**********

– Riddle, Zayn and Owens cut a backstage promo and Riddle said there is only one thing left to do, which is beat the Usos and Sikoa at Backlash. Zayn and Owens walked out of the frame to end the segment.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Karion Kross [8:41]

This was perhaps the match of the night. We don’t see much of Kross anymore, but maybe that will change with the draft and the proposed restart. If so, they did a good job of protecting him in subtle ways throughout, especially with him getting as much offense as he got. Here’s hoping Nakamura gets a little bit of a lift up the card from this. Seeing is believing.

Nakamura had control early as the action spilled outside, where Kross clotheslined the hell out of Nakamura. Kross ran Nakamura into a ring post and we went to break.

Back from break, Kross was toying with Nakamura. Kross said Nakamura was the “King Of Trash,” abnd Nakamura responded with a knee to Kross’s face. Nakamura landed an enziguri and placed Kross on the top turnbuckle to hit a running knee for a two-count.

Scarlett got on the apron and distracted Nakamura. As a result, Kross suplexed Nakamura for a two-count. Kross went for the Kross-Jacket, but Nakamura countered into an arm-bar. Kross fought out of it, but Nakamura worked a guillotine. Kross eventually worked out of it and hit a strong lariat to slow things down.

Kross landed a knee to Nakamura’s chest. Kross suplexed Nakamura for a two-count. Kross took off his elbow pad, setting up for the Kross-Hammer, but Nakamura countered with a knee. From there, Nakamura hit the running knee for the win.

**********

– Back from break, we got a recap video from the draft. Cameron Grimes was shown with Adam Pearce. Baron Corbin interrupted Grimes’s vibe. Grimes said Corbin wasn’t picked at all. Corbin played off the idea that Grimes was picked last, saying Grimes is Mr. Irrelevant. Pearce booked Corbin vs. Grimes for next week.

– Michael Cole threw it to the Backlash press conference recap, which featured the showdown between Bad Bunny and Damien Priest. Rey Mysterio’s music hit and we had our introductions for the mixed tag main event.

Rey Mysterio Jr. and Zelina Vega defeated Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio [9:36]

It’s just so hard to think Zelina Vega comes out of Backlash as the SmackDown’s women’s champ, but damn it if WWE isn’t try to get us to believe. Vega had a ton of offense against Ripley here and it worked to at least create a tiny bit of doubt … right? Maybe? I don’t know. Either way, the match was awfully entertaining and again, this Puerto Rico crowd deserves a paycheck from WWE because man, a good, hot crowd can take a regular show and make it a fabulous show. This crowd did just that.

Vega and Ripley started the match and Vega slapped the hell out of Ripley. Zelina had control and tagged Rey, which meant Dom came in and worked over his dad until Rey kicked Dom. Rey tagged in Vega, who set up Dom for the 619, but Ripley cut Vega off. Vega rolled to the outside and we had a commercial break.

Back from break, Ripley was working over Vega. As Vega went for a tag, Dominik pulled Rey off the apron. Ripley threw Vega to the mat and stared down Rey. Before long, Ripley ran at Vega in a corner and Vega moved, so Ripley hit the post, shoulder-first. Rey was then the recipient of the hot tag.

Rey landed a cross-body on Dom. Rey was on Dom’s shoulders and Dom ran Rey’s head into the top turnbuckle. Rey set up Dom for the 619, but Ripley stopped Rey … until Vega took down Ripley. Rey went to the top, but Dom cut him off and went for the Three Amigos, but Rey countered on the third suplex for a roll-up and the win.

After the match, Judgement Day attacked Rey. Naturally, Bad Bunny’s music hit to massive pop and the LWO took out the Judgement Day while Bad Bunny and Priest had a stare-down. Bunny had a kendo stick and wound up, but only to hit Dominik. Bad Bunny put on an LWO shirt to end the show as the crowd truly and honestly went wild.

– Michael Cole and Wade Barrett ran down the lineup for night 1 of the WWE Draft.

WWE Draft Round 1

There weren’t too many surprises with the first-round picks. Roman Reigns is staying on SmackDown, while Cody Rhodes remains on Raw. The big surprise was Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair going to SmackDown.

Triple H came to announce the first picks for the WWE Draft. Cole noted that Triple H once got drafted to SmackDown but got traded back to Raw before he got to SmackDown.

Triple H went over the rules, noting that 50% of the roster would be eligible tonight. He added that select NXT stars are also eligible tonight. The draft goes into effect on May 8th after Backlash.

1st Pick: As the first pick, SmackDown selected Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa, and Paul Heyman as one pick. Triple H pointed out that means the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be exclusive to Raw.

2nd Pick: Raw selected Cody Rhodes as their first pick. They played Rhodes music but cut it off before the “Whoa.” Triple H noticed, so he let the fans do it without the music.

3rd Pick: SmackDown selected the Raw Women’s Champion, Bianca Belair.

4th Pick: Raw selected Becky Lynch.

Triple H noted that concludes the first round. They’ll be deliberating the second round backstage. He then introduced The Usos.

*********

The Usos/Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Segment

The Usos came out and congratulated Roman Reigns for being the first pick. They promised to win the titles tonight and return them to The Bloodline. They referenced trying to contact Reigns, but he didn’t call or text them back since WrestleMania. Regardless, they’re dedicating tonight’s win to Reigns.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens interrupted. Zayn asked if they thought it was strange Reigns wouldn’t respond to them. He added that Reigns, Sikoa, and Heyman were drafted without The Usos.

The Usos claimed Owens would turn on Zayn when they lose the titles. Owens heard enough. He doesn’t care about any of this and promises to beat The Usos in the main event.

**********

– They showed the doors of the Raw and SmackDown “brain trust,” as Cole called them. According to Cole, the brain trust is busy making their next picks.

– They showed the NXT roster watching from the NXT Performance Center.

– Bianca Belair sent in a message from Belfast, Ireland. She’s excited to return to SmackDown.

LA Knight defeated Butch (8:00)

Knight defeated Butch in a fun opener. Knight gets a bigger reaction each week.

They recapped LA Knight mocking Butch last week, setting up this match.

Butch was firmly in control early as he worked over Knight’s fingers and hand. Knight recovered, dropping Butch on the apron as they went to a break. The fans broke into a faint “LA Knight” chant.

Butch regained control, hitting a moonsault to the floor. The fans broke into a loud “LA Knight” chant. Butch climbed to the top rope, but Knight cut him off. Butch fought back and knocked him off. Knight recovered quickly, leaped to the top rope, and hit a superplex for a near fall to a huge pop. The fans broke into another loud “LA Knight” chant.

Butch went after the arm, but Knight reached the ropes. Knight rolled out of the ring. Knight quickly recovered and hit blunt force trauma for the win.

********

– In the back, The Usos were sitting on a couch with Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa standing behind them. Heyman noted TheUsoswill be drafted tonight to the island of relevancy or ocean of obscurity. Heyman told The Usos tonight’s the night they come back as tag team champions. Heyman looked at Sikoa and said tonight is the night, implying he would take out The Usos if they failed.

*******

WWE Draft Round 2

Rob Van Dam and Michael Hayes came out to announce the next draft picks. RVD got a big pop, with the fans breaking into an “RVD” chant

***********

– The Street Profits made their way to the ring. Ford and Dawkins grabbed the mics. They’re happy to be back on SmackDown. It doesn’t matter what night they’re on because they want the smoke.

Triple Threat Tag Team Match: Street Profits defeated Ricochet & Braun Strowman and LWO (Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde) (7:35)

The Street Profits won a fast-paced sprint with an excellent finish and a hot crowd.

Strowman cleared the ring of the Street Profits and LWO. Strowman tossed Ricochet over the top rope, wiping out the other two teams. They played off last week’s spot when Strowman threw Ricochet into nothing.

Back from the break, Del Toro and Dawkins tried working together against Ricochet. Del Toro took out Dawkins with a springboard dropkick. Wilde tagged in and hit a dive, wiping out the Street Profits at ringside.

Strowman tried to break up a pin attempt on Ricochet. He cleared the ring and ran around ringside, running everyone over until Dawkins hit a dive out of nowhere. Ricochet hit a dive of his own. The finish came when Ford made a blind tag and hit the frog splash on Ricochet for the win.

**********

– A video package recapped the Bad Bunny-Damien Priest feud.

12th Pick: Raw selected The Miz.

********

Zelina Vega defeated Sonya Deville (w/Chelsea Green) (3:05)

Vega defeated Deville, but they did a terrible job building her up as a challenger to Ripley. Instead of looking strong, Deville dominated, with Vega getting the fluke win. Rhea Ripley jumped Vega after the match, but Vega at least got the better of Ripley.

Deville backed Vega into the corner, but Vega caught Deville in an arm bar. Deville quickly regained control and slowed the pace. Vega made a brief comeback, but Deville cut her off. Vega rolled up Deville out of nowhere for the win.

After the match, Rhea Ripley ran out and attacked Vega and Deville. Green backed out of the ring with the fans breaking into a massive “Mami” chant. Ripley went to give Vega the rip tide, but Vega countered into a DDT to a big pop.

– They showed Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens getting ready for their title defense.

– Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio congratulated Zelina Vega on her win and on getting the better of Ripley.

*******

The OC/Viking Raiders Segment

The OC made their way to the ring. AJ Styles grabbed the mic, but The Viking Raiders and Valhalla interrupted before he could speak. Styles stepped back, allowing Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, and Michin to take out the Raiders and Valhalla. Styles promised they’re just getting started. He then hit the Phenomenal forearm on Ivar.

*******

– Cole and Barrett discussed the WWE World Heavyweight title being exclusive to Raw since Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is staying on SmackDown. Barrett then announced that BOTH Raw and SmackDown superstars would compete in a tournament at Night of Champions to crown the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Undisputed Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens defeated The Usos to retain the titles (17:39)

Zayn and Owens defeated The Usos in a fantastic, hard-hitting, fast-paced main event. The story revolved around The Usos dedicating the match to Roman Reigns. After losing, Cole teased that Reigns wouldn’t want The Usos in the Bloodline.

The Usos jumped Zayn and Owens at the bell. Jey sent Zayn into the ring post and isolated Owens in the ring. As they went to a break, the Usos rocked Owens with a double superkick for a near fall.

The fans broke into a “Let’s go Usos/Let’s Go Sami” chant. Jey and Zayn fought on the top rope until Zayn hit a sunset bomb for a near fall. In the back, Roman Reigns phoned Heyman. Heyman then told Sikoa that tonight is his night.

Back in the ring, Zayn went for a plancha, but Jey caught him with a superkick. Owens hit the stunner on Jimmy for another near fall.

Sikoa slowly made his way to ringside. Suddenly, Matt Riddle ran out and fought Sikoa to the back.

The Usos regained control, hitting Owens with a double superkick for a close two-count. They hit another double superkick on Owens and then a double superkick on Zayn. They hit a third double superkick on Owens for another near fall. Jey hit another superkick for another two-count.

The Usos set up for the 1D when Zayn pulled Jey out of the ring. Owens took advantage, hitting a stunner on Jimmy. Zayn then hit a helluva kick on Jimmy for the win to retain the titles.

Sikoa returned and watched on in shock that The Usos lost. Cole speculated that Reigns might not want the Usos in the Bloodline. The WWE Draft continues this Monday Night on Raw.

WWE SmackDown live results: Two title matches

With the WWE Draft one week away, tonight’s SmackDown takes place at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The WWE Women’s Tag Team titles will also be on the line as Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan defend against Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green. Deville and Green interrupted Rodriguez and Morgan’s celebration last week, leading to tonight’s contest.

Ricochet and Braun Strowman are out for revenge when they take on The Viking Raiders. Last week, The Viking Raiders attacked Ricochet and Strowman backstage.

A no DQ match between Matt Riddle and Solo Sikoa will headline tonight’s show. The feud between the LWO and Judgment Day will also continue as Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar take on Finn Balor & Damian Priest.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

– Michael Cole and Wade Barrett ran down the lineup for tonight.

– They recapped Damien Priest attacking his former friend Bad Bunny.

Judgment Day (Damien Priest & Finn Balor) defeated LWO (Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar) (11:29)

Priest and Balor defeated Mysterio and Escobar in a fun opener. The focus was on Bad Bunny’s appearance this Monday on Raw.

Mysterio was in control until Priest blocked a moonsault. Judgement Day took over, isolating Mysterio on their side of the ring. Balor slowed the pace down with a chin lock. Mysterio fought back with a bulldog, tagging in Escobar. Escobar was firmly in control, sending Priest into Balor. Escobar and Mysterio worked together to clear the ring.

Mysterio missed a splash to the floor. Escobar set up for a dive, but Balor wiped him out with a clothesline as they went to a break.

Escobar and Priest traded stiff shots. Priest took over with a kick to the head. He slowed the pace with a chin lock. Escobar tried to fight back, but Priest recovered. Escobar rocked Priest with a dropkick, and Mysterio got the hot tag. Mysterio ran wild on Balor with a senton and middle rope crossbody for a near fall. Mysterio sent the legal man Priest to the floor. Instead, Mysterio caught Balor with the 619, allowing Escobar to hit a splash. Priest sent Mysterio into the ring post and hit South of Heaven on Escobar for the win.

*********

– Zelina Vega approched Adam Pearce. Like everyone else, she doesn’t know where she will end up after the draft. Vega demanded a title shot against Rhea Ripley at Backlash. As a Puerto Rican, she deserves the chance to beat Ripley in Puerto Rico.

– An excellent video package looked at Shinsuke Nakamura.

Karrion Kross addressed Nakamura backstage. He noted it wasn’t his fault he hurt people; it was the cards. He discussed everything he took away from Drew McIntyre, Madcap Moss, and Rey Mysterio. Next, he’s going to take away Nakamura’s honor.

***********

Ricochet & Braun Strowman defeated The Viking Raiders (w/Valhalla) (10:14)

These two teams never disappoint when they face off. Everyone worked hard and had the fans on their feet by the end of the match.

Strowman and Ricochet had the early advantage. The Raiders made a blind tag, isolating Strowman in their corner. Strowman fought back and tagged in Ricochet. He threw Ricochet at the Raiders, but it looked like it hurt Ricochet more. Ricochet cleared the ring and wiped out the Raiders with dive.

During the break, Valhalla caused a distraction, allowing the Raiders to take over. Ricochet broke free, tagging in Strowman. Strowman took out Ivar with a shotgun dropkick. The Strowman express ran over Ivar and Erik at ringside. Valhalla caused another distraction, giving the Raiders the advantage. Ivar hit a huge splash for a close near fall.

Ricochet tagged in and rocked Ivar with a kick to the head and a jumping knee. Strowman threw Ricochet into Ivar and sent Erik to ringside. Ricochet then hit a Swanton bomb off Strowman’s shoulders for the win.

*****************

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan defeated Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green to retain the titles (6:08)

The champions retained the titles in a solid match. Deville and Green weren’t credible challengers, but they’re entertaining. They managed to tell a pretty good story about water.

They recapped Chelsea Green throwing water on Liv Morgan on Monday’s Raw.

Deville and Green cut a promo on the way to the ring. Green pretended to throw water at Morgan as she did on Raw. Rodriguez had to hold back a furious Morgan.

Morgan caught Green with a dropkick at the bell. The champions were firmly in control as they beat down Deville. Deville briefly fought back. Rodriguez tossed Green around the ring. Green sent Rodriguez to ringside and went for a suicide dive. Rodriguez caught Green, but Deville took her out with a knee.

Morgan took out the heels with a dive. The heels quickly took over, cutting Morgan off from her corner. The heels kept trying to win with their feet on the ropes, but the referee caught them each time.

Morgan escaped, and Rodriguez got the hot tag. Rodriguez hit the Vader bomb-twisting elbow, but Deville broke up the pin attempt. Morgan caught Green with a backstabber, but Deville took her out with a boot to the face. The finish came when Morgan threw water in Green’s face, allowing Rodriguez to roll her up for the win.

 ***********

– Kayla Braxton spoke with Matt Riddle. She wonders if facing Solo Sikoa a few weeks before Backlash is a good idea. He knows Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens aren’t there, but he’s not worried. He promised to beat Sikoa later.

**********

Intercontinental Champion Gunther defeated Xavier Woods to retain the title (10:36)

Gunther beat Woods in an excellent, hard-hitting match with a hot crowd. Gunther was awesome, like always, but Woods was impressive too.

They started slow trading moves back and forth. Woods had a brief advantage until Gunther took over with a chop. Woods tried fighting back, but Gunther destroyed him with more chops. Gunther slowed the pace with a sleeper. Woods tried to escape, but Gunther rocked him with another chop.

Woods fought back with forearm shots. He avoided Gunther, slid through his legs, and hit an elbow. Gunther rolled to ringside to get away. Woods wasted no time, hitting a dive to the floor. Gunther tried to slow Woods’s momentum with a chop. Woods recovered, pushed Gunther down, and hit a giant leg drop off the top rope for a close near fall. The fans broke into a “New Day Rocks” chant.

Woods escaped a powerbomb and went for a series of pin attempts. Gunther kicked out of an O’Connor roll into the sleeper for the win.

*************

– A video package recapped Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens beating The Usos for the titles at WrestleMania 39.

The Usos Segment

The Usos entered the ring. They talked about losing the titles at WrestleMania. People kept asking them how they felt. Before Backlash, they have a rematch with Zayn and Owens next week. They promised to win the titles and bring them to the Bloodline and Roman Reigns. They introduced Solo Sikoa.

No Disqualification Match: Solo Sikoa defeated Matt Riddle (14:04)

Sikoa defeated Riddle in a fantastic main event. They beat the hell out of each other with kendo sticks and chairs. There was even an exploder suplex on four upright chairs. The fans were going crazy by the end of the match.

Riddle jumped Sikoa from behind during his entrance. Sikoa quickly took over and pulled out kendo sticks and chairs from under the ring. Riddle tried to use them first, but Sikoa cut him off. Sikoa beat Riddle with the kendo stick. The fans broke into a “We want tables” chant.

Riddle recovered and destroyed Sikoa with the Kendo stick. Riddle teased pulling out a table to a giant pop. Sikoa cut him off to loud boos. Riddle recovered and hit the bro-ton off the steps.

Back from the break, Sikoa hit a Samoan drop for a near fall. Sikoa put  Riddle in the corner with the chair on his face. He went for the splash, but Riddle threw the chair in his face instead. Riddle sent Sikoa into another chair. He then kneed the chair into Sikoa’s face. Riddle followed with an exploder onto four upright chairs. Sikoa rolled to the floor to recover. Riddle tried going after him, but Sikoa grabbed his leg, slamming him on the apron.

Sikoa tossed Riddle over the announce table and tried to flip it over like last week. Instead, Riddle used his leg strength to block Sikoa. Riddle regained control and turned the table onto Sikoa. That’s when The Usos ran out, attacking Riddle. He fought them off, wiping them out with the floating bro.

Sikoa emerged from under the table. Riddle tried to cut him off with a flash knee. Riddle hit the ropes, but Sikoa hit a flying Samoan Spike for the win.

After the match, The Usos gave Riddle the 1 D through a table to end SmackDown.

Unsurprisingly, The Usos, Kevin Owens, and Zayn were excellent in the segment. They each cut a passionate promo while planting seeds for The Usos leaving The Bloodline.

The Usos entered the ring to a loud reaction. Jimmy and Jey started discussing WrestleMania 39 when Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens interrupted. Zayn agreed that tomorrow night would be the biggest tag team match in WWE history. Zayn said that’s tomorrow night. Tonight they have something to say to The Usos.

He lost all respect when they started doing Roman Reigns’ bidding. Owens was furious that The Usos tried to end his career at the Royal Rumble. They tried to take away the way he supports his family. If it weren’t for Zayn, he wouldn’t be standing there now. Owens promised to beat them for the titles at WrestleMania.

Jimmy pointed out that Zayn and Owens go from being friends to enemies and back to friends. He noted Jimmy and Jey are blood.

– After Michael Cole and Wade Barrett run down the lineup, Cody Rhodes’s music hit to a big pop.

Cody Rhodes Segment

Loved this segment. Rhodes, Owens, and Zayn were outstanding in their roles. It revolved around Rhodes trying to get Zayn and Owens on the same page. Owens turned them down.

Cody Rhodes entered the ring as the fans broke into a giant “Cody” chant. Rhodes discussed his upcoming title shot at WrestleMania 39. He considers Roman Reigns the best champion in sports and sports entertainment. Rhodes praised Reigns as a great champion and can’t wait to beat him for the WWE title at WrestleMania 39. The fans erupted into another massive “Cody” chant.

However, Rhodes doesn’t want to talk about someone; he wants to talk to someone. Rhodes called out Kevin Owens. Owens made his way to the ring. The fans gradually broke into a loud “KO” chant. Owens knows what Rhodes wants to talk about, but Rhodes cuts him off. Rhodes feels another person needs to be part of the conversation. Thus, Rhodes called out Sami Zayn.

Zayn entered the ring; The fans broke into a loud “Sami” chant. Rhodes is going to pull the curtain back. He admitted to having respect for Owens. He discussed leaving the WWE six years ago, and Owens offered advice and introduced him to his friends. Rhodes wants to repay the favor. Owens isn’t listening to Zayn again. He heard all of this already. The fans broke into a loud “Hug it out” chant.

Zayn wants to know how Owen is feeling. Zayn’s confused because they fight and makeup all the time. He didn’t understand the difference this time. Zayn told Owens to yell at him or punch him in the face so that Owens can get past it. He told Owens they needed to go back to working as a team. They could be the ones to end the ones, The Bloodline.

Owens asked Rhodes if he got everything he needed. Rhodes noted they’re in the people-pleasing business. Rhodes told them to get back on the same page. The fans broke into another “Hug it out” chant. Owens again said he had heard everything already. He asked, “Why would I fight with someone who doesn’t want to be my friend?” Zayn seemed confused by the statement. Owens gave the mic back to Rhodes and walked off.

After the break in the parking lot, Owens was walking to his car when Zayn stopped him. Zayn told him to forget everything they talked about in the ring. Zayn said they are friends and that he loves him. Owens got into his car and drove off.

Mixed Tag Team Match: Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley defeated Santos Escobar & Zelina Vega (7:11)

Ripley and Mysterio beat Escobar and Vega in a fun match. Everyone looked great, but Vega had a good showing and was the highlight of the match.

Dominik Mysterio caught Santos Escobar with a dropkick at the bell. Ripley tagged in and tried to kick Escobar, but he grabbed her leg. Zelina Vega came off the top rope, wiping out Ripley. Escobar caught Mysterio with a clothesline from the apron to the floor. Vega then hit a moonsault to the floor, wiping out Mysterio and Ripley as they went to a break.

Mysterio was firmly in control until Escobar hit a perfect-looking dropkick. Ripley came in and dropped Mysterio onto Escobar for a near fall, but Vega broke up the pin. Escobar and Mysterio collided in mid-air when they both went for a crossbody.

Vega ran wild on Ripley with a running knee and tilt-a-whirl DDT for a near fall. Mysterio broke up the pin attempt to a ton of heat. Ripley sent Vega to the floor as Escobar and Mysterio fought on the top rope. They did a tower of doom spot with Escobar superplexing Mysterio as Ripley gave Escobar a powerbomb. Vega took out Mysterio with a hurricanrana. Ripley took advantage and hit the riptide on Vega for the win.

After the match, Dominik took the mic and mocked his father. He called Rey a deadbeat dad and claimed he didn’t belong in the Hall of Fame.

They showed Rey Mysterio walking on the big screen as they went to a break.

******

Rey Mysterio/Dominik Mysterio Segment

Dominik and Rey were great in the segment. They added another layer to their story teasing the WrestleMania match. Rey cut an awesome promo.

Rey asked Ripley to let him talk to his son. Ripley stood in the background. Dominik got in Rey’s face and mocked him for being a bad father. Rey admitted to missing birthdays and important events. He added that he still loves his son. The fans cheered. Rey noted the business is selfish, but he did everything for his family. He wanted to give his wife, daughter, and son everything he never had. Rey added that the Mysterio name got Dominik out of trouble more than once.

Rey became emotional and started talking about the Hall of Fame. He wishes his son would be by his side that night. Rey’s tone changed, and he noted that if some punk kid called him out for WrestleMania, he would kick his ass. The fans popped and broke into a “kick his ass” chant. Charlotte Flair/Rhea Ripley Segment

Another excellent segment tonight building up a key WrestleMania match. Flair and Ripley were incredible in their back-and-forth. But the post-match brawl was off the charts. They fought around the ringside, beating up security guards as they tried to fight each other.

Flair entered the ring and noted that the more things change, the more they stay the same. When she was a baby in her mother’s arms, the business was built on Rhodes as a challenger and Flair as the champion. This year at Wrestlemania, Rhodes is the challenger, and Flair’s the champion once again.

Flair turned her attention to Rhea Ripley. If Ripley wants to be a star, she has to beat Flair. Flair noted Riply couldn’t beat her three years ago. She noted the same would happen this year at WrestleMania because the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio interrupted and made their way to the ring. Ripley noted that men and women in the locker room fear her, except for Flair.

Ripley praised Flair for being a champion and a star. She admits that Flair is one of the biggest stars in the company. But Ripley wants, no, needs the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Ripley needs to be a star. She promises to beat Flair for the title, and Flair will finally learn to fear Ripley.

Dominik got in Flair’s face, allowing Ripley to cheap-shot her. Ripley and Mysterio jumped out of the ring. Flair got back to her feet and attacked Ripley. Flair and Ripley go into a massive brawl at ringside. Flair accidentally kicked a security guard, sending him over the barricade. Ripley threw Flair over the announce table. Flair recovered, jumping off the table onto Ripley.

Referees and security struggled to keep Ripley and Flair apart. Ripley rocked a security guard with a head butt. Officials finally broke up the brawl.

Gunther yelled at McIntyre and Sheamus, allowing Kaiser and Vinci to jump McIntyre and Sheamus for the disqualification.

Sami Zayn Confronts Jey Uso

Not usually a fan of a lot of talking segments, but they were all awesome tonight. Each segment built up its respective storyline masterfully.

The closing segment was terrific, adding another layer to The Bloodline story. Owens and Zayn finally hugging got a massive reaction from the fans. They did a great job building up to the hug in the last few weeks.

Suddenly, Kevin Owens’s music hit to a big pop. Owens appeared in the ring behind The Usos. Owens ran wild on the Usos and hit the pop-up powerbomb and stunner.

Owens and Zayn were left alone in the ring. They stood across from each other as the fans broke into a loud “Hug it out” chant. Owens and Zayn finally hugged to a gigantic pop. They showed Cody Rhodes watching in the back with a subtle smile.

Owens and Zayn watched The Usos leave as SmackDown ended.

Fatal Five-Way Number One Contender’s Match: Drew McIntyre and Sheamus defeated LA Knight, Xavier Woods, and Karrion Kross (w/Scarlett) via Double Pin (17:34)

They did a controversial finish, with McIntyre and Sheamus scoring pins simultaneously. They built the match around Sheamus and McIntyre in a fun opener. Everyone worked hard, although it was all about McIntyre and Sheamus.

After clearing the ring, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus went face-to-face briefly. As they argued, LA Knight and Karrion Kross jumped them from behind as they went to a break.

Kross and Knight worked together to isolate Woods. Sheamus pulled Knight out of the ring, but Kross came to his rescue. They worked together to take out McIntyre and Sheamus at ringside.

McIntyre fired up and took on the heels. Knight and Kross took out McIntyre again. That allowed Sheamus to catch them off guard with a flying crossbody. Kross caught Sheamus in a half-crab as Knight hit a neck breaker on McIntyre.

Kross broke up Knight’s pin attempt, ending their alliance. Knight and Kross turned on each other. That opened the door for Woods to run wild. He hit the flying elbow on Knight, but everyone broke up the pin attempt.

As they cut to a commercial, Gunther and Imperium walked out on the stage to get a closer look.

Kross caught McIntyre in the tree of woe and climbed to the top rope. As Knight leaped up and hit a superplex on Kross, McIntyre caught Knight with a German suplex. – Kayla Braxton spoke with Paul Heyman. She wanted insight into Jey Uso’s decision to turn on Sami Zayn. Heyman wasn’t listening because he was thinking about Cody Rhodes. Rhodes was the only person he wanted to avoid standing across from Roman Reigns in the ring. Heyman discussed the different ways The Bloodline deals with a new challenger for Reign’s title. They do it like gangsters, playing mind games until the opponent is beaten before the match. Other times The Bloodline tells the truth.

They’re going to make Rhodes confront the truth and his past. The truth will put so much emotional baggage on Rhodes that he’ll be a beaten man before WrestleMania. After Rhodes loses at WrestleMania, he has to pick the time and place to truthfully acknowledge the tribal chief, Roman Reigns.

********

– Drew McIntyre and Sheamus argued about the double-pin finish and who should challenge Gunther at WrestleMania. Butch and Ridge Holland dragged Sheamus away.

First Inductee into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame Announcement

They announced Rey Mysterio as the first inductee in the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame class. After a video package, they introduced Mysterio to the live crowd.

He mentioned all the birthdays and holidays that Rey missed to make his Hall of Fame career. Dominik noted Rhea Ripley’s right; he’s ashamed to be Rey’s son.

Legado Del Fantasma’s music hit, and they came to ringside. Santos Escobar was furious at Dominik’s disrespect. Rey might let things go, but Escobar doesn’t. They have a match later, but Legado Del Fantasma wants to fight right now.

Judgement Day (Finn Balor, Damien Priest, & Dominik Mysterio w/Rhea Ripley) defeated Legado Del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, & Cruz Del Toro w/Zelina Vega & Rey Mysterio) (9:13)

They worked at a fast pace in a really good six-man tag team match. The post-match angle with Dominik and Rey was excellent. Dominik ruining Rey’s Hall of Fame induction got a ton of heat.

Judgment Day was firmly in control as they isolated Del Toro on their side of the ring. The faces recovered and worked together to cut Balor off from his corner. Priest rocked Wilde with a boot to regain control. The heels beat down Wilde on their side of the ring and knocked Escobar and Del Toro off the apron.

Vega tried to get involved, but Ripley blocked a hurricanrana. Ripley threw Vega onto Escobar and Wilde. Rey got in Ripley’s face. Dominik took advantage and caught Rey with a sliding dropkick. Del Toro had Dominik beat when Priest hit him from behind, allowing Dominik to score the win.

After the match, Dominik wanted to address his father, so he asked Judgement Day to leave the ring. Dominik still can’t believe that the WWE is inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. The only Hall of Fame Rey belongs in is for deadbeat dads.

Dominik added that he should have been Eddie Guerrero’s son. Rey told him to take that back. Dominik demanded he hit him. Rey refused. Dominik charged at Rey but moved, and Dominik fell out of the ring. Rey won’t fight Dominik. Dominik kept yelling that Rey would fight him. Great angle.

Charlotte Flair Segment

Charlotte Flair made her way to the ring. She got a good reaction coming out. She mocked Rousey, leading to a loud “Thank you, Charlotte” chant. Flair mentioned being a 14-time champion. It doesn’t matter if the fans boo or cheer Flair; she’s never complacent. A champion always needs to be ready for the unexpected.

Sonya Deville interrupted, and the fans broke into a “whoop that trick” chant. Deville mocked Flair for beating Rousey after she had a match. Deville then challenged Flair to face a fresh fighter. Flair asked the fans, and they erupted in a “whoop that trick” chant.

Royal Rumble Qualifying Match: Ricochet defeated Top Dolla (w/Ashante “Thee” Adonis & B-Fab) (1:56)

Somehow, Ricochet had a bad match. They only got two minutes, and Top Dolla was in control for most of it. The story revolved around Top Dolla’s botch a few weeks ago.

Cole used the word “botch” and talked about it the entire match. Hit Row turned heel and attacked Ricochet after the loss.

Michael Cole mentioned Top Dolla botching the dive a few weeks ago. He noted that the botch was trending for several days, and fans were making fun of him. Cole explained that Top Dolla shoved Ricochet when he made fun of him too.

Ricochet went for a springboard, but Top Dolla cut him off. Dolla continued the beat down with a boot to the face. Ricochet fired up and gained control. The finish came when Ricochet hit the shooting star press for the win.

After the match, Top Dolla and Ricochet shook hands. Suddenly, Adonis rocked Ricochet with a superkick. B-Fab caught Ricochet with a knee to the face. Hit Row beatdown Ricochet until Braun Strowman ran down for the save.

In the Bloodline locker room, The Usos headed to the ring for their upcoming match. Roman Reigns turned to Paul Heyman and demanded to see Sami Zayn.

After the break, Zayn entered the locker room. He acknowledged Reigns as the tribal chief and apologized. Reigns refused to accept his apology. Reigns noted he should control his temper better. Nobody has the right to talk to Zayn that way in public like Reigns did earlier. Surprisingly, Reigns apologized instead. Even Heyman was surprised that Reigns was sorry.

Reigns admitted that Kevin Owens was right. He’s mad at Owens, not Zayn. Reigns isn’t worried because he has a solution. Heyman then announced Zayn vs. Owens for next week. Zayn accepted the match and promised to beat Owens. Reigns asked Zayn to stay and watch the title match with him.

WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions The Usos (w/Solo Sikoa) defeated Drew McIntyre & Sheamus to retain the titles (13:14)

The Usos retained the titles in a hard-hitting, fast-paced main event with tons of near falls. Two near falls, in particular, got a big reaction because the fans thought it was the finish.

They showed Sami Zayn, Roman Reigns, and Paul Heyman watching in the Bloodline locker room several times. It turned into a funny running joke by the end.

The Usos took over when Jimmy interfered from the apron, allowing Jey to hit a Samoan drop on McIntyre. The Usos isolated McIntyre on their side of the ring. Jimmy slowed the pace with a chin lock. McIntyre broke free, but Jimmy yanked him down by his hair.

McIntyre ended up on the apron. He tried fighting off The Usos, but they overwhelmed him. McIntyre rocked Jimmy with a clothesline at ringside. Jey took advantage and caught McIntyre with a suicide dive.

Back from the break, Sheamus was running wild on The Usos. Apparently, the hot tag happened during the break. Sheamus was on his own as he gave Jey the ten beats of the bodhran. Jey rocked Sheamus with a superkick, allowing Jimmy to hit a splash for a near fall.

In the Bloodline locker room, Zayn had a bucket of popcorn. He offered Reigns and Heyman popcorn as he talked about the action in the ring. They gave him weird looks.

In the arena, The Usos went up for a double splash, but McIntyre and Sheamus cut them off. McIntyre and Sheamus hit white noise on each Uso off the middle ropes.

McIntyre fired up, hitting a dive over the top rope onto The Usos. McIntyre then hit the claymore on Jey, but Jimmy broke up the pin attempt to a big reaction. After taking out McIntyre, the Usos hit a double superkick on Sheamus and the 1-D. That appeared to be the finish, but McIntyre broke up the pin attempt with another big reaction.

They went back to The Bloodline locker room. Now, Zayn, Reigns, and Heyman each had their own bucket of popcorn.

In the arena, Sikoa pulled out McIntyre and hit the spinning Solo onto the barricade. Butch and Ridge Holland ran out and fought Sikoa to the back. Sheamus fought The Usos on his own for several minutes. The finish came when Jimmy rolled up Sheamus, and Jey held him down from the apron for the win.

Zayn celebrated The Usos winning by throwing his popcorn all over the locker room. Reigns and Heyman gave him weird looks for making a mess.

The Usos celebrated their title win as SmackDown went off the air.
