WWE Raw live results: Two championship matches

Date: March 15, 2021
Location: Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL

The Big Takeaway —

Shane McMahon beat up Braun Strowman and covered him with green slime. The two will have a singles match at Fastlane. Also, Randy Orton accepted Alexa Bliss’ challenge for some sort of fight at Fastlane.

The New Day won the tag team titles and will defend them at WrestleMania against AJ Styles and Omos. Riddle retained the US title over Mustafa Ali.

Asuka returned and squeaked out a quick win over Shayna Baszler before attacking Baszler after their match. Asuka was about to curb-stomp her into the exposed turnbuckle but the referee stopped her.

Show Recap —

They kicked off with breaking news: Bobby Lashley will defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania.

Lashley and MVP entered. They were extremely well-dressed. MVP reminded us that we are in the All Mighty era. MVP called Lashley the CHO of the Hurt Business and said he won the WWE title after 16 years of dedication. Lashley said he wasn’t given anything — he had to fight to win the title and he did so after destroying McIntyre, which he will do again at Mania.

The Miz and John Morrison entered. They were not as well-dressed. They claimed they were all-in on the All Mighty era. Miz was honoured to share the ring with Lashley and was sad that their rivalry was over. He talked about the great feuds that had showdowns at Mania, including Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan-André the Giant, and The Rock-Steve Austin.

Miz did an awful Steve Austin impression (for 3:16 week) and he went on for a while. Basically, he wanted Lashley to agree to a title match against him at Mania.

McIntyre interrupted. He walked right by Miz and Morrison without acknowledging them. McIntyre said he knew what it was like to take such a long journey to finally win the title. They both went years being the hardest-working men in the room while opportunities passed them by. They both left WWE and had to start at the bottom to get to the top.

The difference with their stories was that McIntyre won the Royal Rumble and beat Brock Lesnar in five minutes, whereas Lashley made a deal to screw him out of the title.

MVP told McIntyre that he’d have to deal with Sheamus first. McIntyre wasn’t worried about Sheamus and wondered why MVP was even there. Lashley said to focus on him.

Miz reminded them that he was there. McIntyre said Miz can attack him if he wants or just go to the back. McIntyre said he would beat Miz in their match and beat Sheamus at Fastlane before regaining his belt at Mania, ending the All Mighty era. McIntyre called Lashley a “big, bald, bitch.”

Lashley acted like he was going to leave but attacked McIntyre after Miz distracted him. After Lashley left, Miz attacked McIntyre.

Sheamus then attacked Lashley as he was leaving until officials stepped in. Lashley was about to go after him but MVP told him to wait until later tonight.

In the back, Sheamus told Sarah Schreiber that he wanted McIntyre at 100% so he wouldn’t have any excuses at Fastlane. He was going to beat Lashley tonight and show McIntyre what he wouldn’t be able to do at Mania.

A referee checked on McIntyre to make sure he could start his match against the Miz. As this happened, they ran down tonight’s card. Conveniently, McIntyre was ready to go once this was finished.

Drew McIntyre defeated The Miz (w/John Morrison) (11:18)

Miz attacked McIntyre but McIntyre quickly fought back and took control. Morrison tried distracting McIntyre but it didn’t work, so Morrison chucked his shades in the ring and McIntyre stomped on them. This distraction allowed Miz to attack but again McIntyre quickly fought him off.

McIntyre hit a reverse Alabama Slam but Morrison pulled Miz out of the ring as McIntyre set up for a Claymore. The ref tossed Morrison from ringside and they went to break.

Miz hit a DDT for just a one count. McIntyre came back with clotheslines, overhead suplexes and a neckbreaker before taking him to the outside to drive him into the barricade and side of the ring. McIntyre slapped him in the face and bounced his face on the steel steps. McIntyre followed with a Future Shock DDT and a Claymore kick.

Instead of going for the cover, McIntyre pointed at the camera, pointed at the Mania sign, and put Miz in the Hurt Lock for the decisive submission win.

The announcers congratulated Bad Bunny on winning a Grammy for best Latin pop album. He was shown walking with Damian Priest in the back.

Braun Strowman / Shane McMahon segment

Strowman was mid-sentence in the ring after a commercial. He called out Shane McMahon who came out on the stage. He wasn’t sure what Strowman wanted. Strowman said he was bullied his whole life by guys like Shane and said he didn’t grow up in a mansion like him. Shane thought his accusations were disgusting. He claimed he would never insult another man.

Strowman said Shane was afraid which is why he stumbled over his words. Strowman knew Shane wanted a match with him but didn’t have the guts to issue the challenge. Strowman challenged him to a match tonight. Shane said Strowman couldn’t handle him. Shane made a bunch of jokes about how stupid Strowman was (as he stumbled over his dialogue).

Strowman told him to shut up. He wanted an answer. Shane accepted.

R-Truth, dressed as Steve Austin, approached Dana Brooke, Mandy Rose, Lana and Naomi in the back. They told him it was 3/15 today, not 3/16. He kept saying “What” in response. He offered them a beer but they told him that they have a match next. Truth downed a Broken Skull IPA before saying, “And that’s the bottom line because R-Truth said so!”

(It’s hard to believe that the 3/16 show where Steve Austin appeared in front of an empty building was one year ago. That was the first Raw at the Performance Centre.)

Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke defeated Lana & Naomi (4:30)

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler were on commentary.

Rose and Brooke worked over Naomi until she hit a jawbreaker and tagged in Lana. As Lana ran wild on Rose, Byron Saxton said she looked impressive. Baszler responded, “impressive for a dancer.”

The four wrestlers traded moves when Asuka’s music suddenly hit and she marched out. Baszler left commentary and went after her. Asuka dodged her attack and nailed a roundhouse kick. Asuka hammered away on Baszler until officials stopped her. Jax calmly said, “I should help” but she remained on commentary.

Lana gave Rose an X-Factor but Rose wasn’t the legal wrestler. Brooke flew in with a swinging neckbreaker for the pinfall win. Jax was appropriately confused. I’m not sure where Naomi went.

Riddle approached Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods in the back. New Day were startled upon seeing him, which was funny. They were all excited to leave tonight as champions. Riddle thought they should get matching tattoos but New Day didn’t like that idea. Riddle suggested matching scooters and New Day liked that idea better.

[Second hour]

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander to win the Raw Tag Team Championships

New Day wore their Mortal Kombat gear and did a spot inspired by Scorpion, which led to Woods yelling, “toasty!” Hurt Business put an end to the fun with a cool spot where Alexander monkey flipped Kingston into a Benjamin spinebuster.

Kingston came back with a double foot stomp and tagged in Woods who fought off both men. New Day tried dives but Hurt Business blocked them and knocked them down outside the ring which led to break.

Woods and Alexander exchanged blows until Alexander hit a Michinoku Driver for two. Kingston tagged in but Benjamin cut him off with an enziguri. Kingston came back with a rana and foot stomp for two, followed by an SOS for two. Benjamin launched Kingston off the top with an arm drag but Woods broke up the cover.

Woods took out Alexander with a tornado DDT on the outside. Kingston hit Benjamin with Trouble in Paradise before wiping out Alexander with a dive.

Woods gave Benjamin a flying elbow drop and they followed that with Day Break for the pinfall win. New Day are the new tag team champions. Good match.

AJ Styles and Omos entered as New Day celebrated. New Day were ready for a fight but Styles said he just wanted to congratulate them on winning the titles right before Mania. Styles said he has been the WWE champion, IC champion and US champion. He even fought the Undertaker at Mania. Woods (off mic) yelled, “What do you want, AJ? We don’t care!”

Styles said Omos had an idea. Omos thought they should be tag champs. Styles officially challenged them to a title match at Mania. Kingston grabbed a mic and asked if they were officially registered as a tag team. Styles said yes. New Day accepted their challenge.

Priest and Bad Bunny approached Miz and Morrison. They mocked Miz and his awful stretch. Bad Bunny thought it was amusing that Miz ever held a belt. Miz ran down his accomplishments and asked Priest which championships he’s won. Priest said he was right and maybe he should start winning some right now. He got in Miz’s face but Miz and Morrison backed off and left.

Truth was about to attack Bad Bunny with an “Austin 3:16” lunchbox but Priest saw him coming, so he stopped. Truth said he was only there to give them some gifts. He had a Steve Austin plush doll and smoking skull belt for Bad Bunny. He also had a beer for Priest.

Bad Bunny wanted to know what Truth wanted in return. Truth wanted the 24/7 title belt. Bad Bunny said he respected Truth and the business. He gave Truth the 24/7 belt. Truth was elated. Right on cue, Drew Gulak, Akira Tozawa and Humberto Carrillo (I think) chase him away.

(I was reminded recently that Gulak wrestled Daniel Bryan at last year’s Elimination Chamber.)

Tom Phillips said there will be a new on-sale date for Mania soon.

Damian Priest (w/Bad Bunny) defeated Jaxson Ryker (w/Elias) (0:35)

Priest won immediately by pinfall after a Broken Arrow and Hit the Lights.

Elias attacked Priest after the match. He was about to attack with a guitar but Bad Bunny snatched it away. Elias grabbed Bad Bunny for a slam but he slipped out and punched Elias in the face. Priest gave Elias his finisher.

Morrison sauntered out to distract them so Miz could hit Bad Bunny from behind with the guitar. (The director actually missed the spot, so they showed a replay.) Miz bailed before Priest could go after him. Priest checked on Bad Bunny.

There was an ad for NXT but no matches were announced.

Schreiber interviewed Lashley and MVP. MVP was pissed about Sheamus attacking Lashley. He warned Sheamus that he won’t be walking into Fastlane at 100% and the same thing that happens to him tonight will happen to McIntyre at Mania.

Shane McMahon vs. Braun Strowman

The match didn’t happen.

Shane stalled before the match could start. He claimed he needed to warm up so he did push-ups and jumping jacks outside the ring. He also had a hopscotch game set up at ringside because of Strowman’s schoolyard comment earlier. (How did he get that so fast?) That pissed off Strowman so he went after Miz.

Strowman kicked Shane into the barricade and decided to run all the way around the ring for a shoulder tackle attempt. This gave Shane enough time to grab a camera from the cameraman and hit Strowman in the face. Shane repeatedly hit Strowman with the camera before clearing the announce table.

With Strowman laid out on the table, Shane nailed a flying elbow drop off the top and they crashed through the table. Shane got up pretty quickly from this spot. He grabbed a bucket of green slime from under the ring and dumped it over Strowman while calling him stupid. He grabbed a second bucket and dumped that on him as well.

They played Shane’s music as he walked to the back. Strowman got up and said he would rip Shane’s head off.

Rhea Ripley is (still) coming soon.

Alexa Bliss segment

Alexa Bliss (wearing white contacts) was on a swing set in the back. Bliss told Randy Orton that he if wanted her out of his life, he’d have to take her out of it. Bliss said he would have the opportunity at Fastlane and wondered if he’d take it. (The announcers weren’t sure what she meant by that.)

[Third hour]

They played the clip of Shane Helms informing Molly Holly that she would be inducted into the hall of fame this year.

Raw Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Shayna Baszler (w/Nia Jax) in a non-title match (1:29)

Asuka attacked Baszler before the match started. She also took out Jax with a Codebreaker. The ref checked on Baszler who told him to start the match.

Asuka attacked Baszler while also knocking Jax off the apron with a hip attack. Baszler hit a knee strike (which appeared to hit Asuka hard right in the jaw). The ref checked on Asuka who appeared to be fine. As Asuka went for an armbar, she once again had to knock Jax from the apron.

Baszler put Asuka into the Kirifuda Clutch but Asuka rolled into a cover for the pinfall win. Baszler still had the hold on but let it go after the bell rang.

Baszler tried to kick Asuka’s teeth out again but Asuka blocked it, hit a German suplex and kicks of her own. Asuka then curb-stomped Baszler’s face into the bottom turnbuckle.

Asuka removed the buckle padding and Baszler’s mouthguard. She was about to stomp her into the exposed buckle but the ref saved Baszler. (I liked the post-match stuff.)

Mustafa Ali told Retribution that he would right their wrongs tonight. Riddle sped through them on his scooter. Ali was unamused.

The announcers ran down the Fastlane card which now includes Shane vs. Strowman, and McIntyre vs. Sheamus.

Riddle defeated Mustafa Ali (w/Retribution) to retain the US Championship (8:51)

Early in the match, Ali chucked Riddle neck-first into the edge of the new announce table. Ali hit a swinging neckbreaker off the apron to the outside which led to break about 90 seconds into this championship match.

Ali took control after the break and hit a neckbreaker for two. He followed moments later with another neckbreaker for two again. Riddle fought back with a Pelé kick, exploder suplex, senton, and fisherman buster for two.

Riddle cradled Ali but as Ali reversed into a cradle of his own, T-Bar was distracting the referee. Riddle kicked out and hit a Bro Derek for the pinfall win. This match was fine.

Retribution chased Riddle away after the match. Ali yelled at them.

Schreiber asked Orton for his reaction to Alexa Bliss challenging him to a one-on-one match. Orton thought it was funny that she wanted him to “kick” her out of his life because that’s exactly what he planned on doing.

Drew McIntyre promo

McIntyre was still in his gear. He started with some comedy and said people must be wondering why he hasn’t showered and changed yet. He joked that he pretty much always dressed this way.

McIntyre said MVP did a dangerous thing by making a guarantee earlier. McIntyre planned on beating Sheamus at Fastlane before beating Lashley at Mania. He wanted a front-row seat for tonight’s main event.

WWE Champion Bobby Lashley (w/MVP) defeated Sheamus in a non-title match (17:38)

McIntyre watched from ringside.

They fought back and forth until Lashley caught Sheamus off the apron and gave him an overhead suplex. Lashley got in McIntyre’s face as they went to break.

Lashley was in full control after the break. He pointed at McIntyre who gave him a sarcastic thumbs-up. The extra time allowed Sheamus to dodge a running shoulder tackle and Lashley went shoulder-first into the post. Sheamus hit a flying clothesline but Lashley kicked out at one.

Sheamus clubbed away at him before hitting a backbreaker for a one count. Sheamus followed with another backbreaker, this time for two. Sheamus applied a modified sharpshooter but Lashley kicked his way out of it and hit a powerslam for two.

Sheamus hit elbows strikes but Lashley countered into a flatliner for two. Lashley followed that with a superplex but Sheamus countered a spear attempt with a knee strike. Sheamus followed with White Noise for a two count.

Sheamus went for a Brogue Kick but Lashley nailed a spear for the pinfall win. Pretty good match.

Lashley put Sheamus down with the Hurt Lock after the match. After McIntyre got into the ring, Sheamus bumped into MVP by accident (as he was selling). This caused Lashley to turn his attention to them, which allowed McIntyre to knock him out of the ring with a Claymore kick. McIntyre and Sheamus stared each other down as the show ended.

Miz TV, Riddle vs. Morrison announced for WWE Raw

New WWE Champion The Miz will kick off tonight’s Raw with an episode of Miz TV.

WWE made the announcement this evening.

Miz won the WWE title after cashing  in his Money in the Bank briefcase on former champ Drew McIntyre at last night’s Elimination Chamber PPV.

New United States Champion Riddle has also been announced for tonight’s show, taking on John Morrison in singles competition.

At last night’s PPV, Morrison won a four-way on the kickoff show to gain a spot in the triple threat United States title match on the main card, beating Ricochet, Elias and Mustafa Ali. Riddle then pinned Morrison to win the title, as former champ Lashley was not involved in the decision.

Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will also be in action tonight, taking on Charlotte Flair and Raw Women’s Champion Asuka.

Jax and Baszler defeated Flair and Asuka for the Women’s Tag titles on the Royal Rumble kickoff show on January 31.

United States title changes hands at WWE Elimination Chamber

A new United States champion was crowned during tonight’s WWE Elimination Chamber event.

Riddle defeated John Morrison and Bobby Lashley in a triple threat match to win the title. The finish had John Morrison take MVP’s crutch to use on Lashley. However, Lashley countered and put Morrison in the Hurt Lock, causing Morrison to drop the crutch. Riddle grabbed it, attacked Lashley, then pinned Morrison with the Bro Derek to win. This is Riddle’s first run with the United States title.

This ends Lashley’s run with the title after 172 days, defeating Apollo Crews for the championship back at WWE Payback on August 30.

The triple threat match was originally supposed to feature Keith Lee, as he and Riddle had a match two weeks ago on Raw that Lee won. However, Lashley came out and attacked both men after the match, including using steel stairs to attack Lee. Prior to the start of tonight’s event, it was announced that Lee would not be able to compete due to an injury. A fatal four way match was then set up, where Morrison defeated Mustafa Ali, Ricochet, and Elias to advance to the pay-per-view.

Triple threat US title match added to WWE Elimination Chamber

The United States Championship will be on the line in a triple threat match at this month’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

WWE has announced that United States Champion Bobby Lashley will defend his title against Riddle and Keith Lee in a triple threat match at Elimination Chamber. The PPV is taking place on Sunday, February 21.

Lee defeated Riddle on Raw tonight after hitting the Spirit Bomb. Lee helped Riddle up after the match, but Lashley then attacked them both. He dropped Lee with a slam and put Riddle in the Hurt Lock. Lashley then continued to attack Lee, threw him into the ring post, and then hit him with the steel steps. Lashley posed with his United States title belt on top of the announce table.

There had been a backstage segment earlier on tonight’s Raw where Lee asked if Riddle really wanted to keep pursuing the United States title when he keeps getting beat up by Lashley and the Hurt Business. Riddle vowed to defeat Lashley, but Lee said it might be time for someone new to make the attempt. Lee said he has what it takes to defeat Lashley.

Riddle challenged for Lashley’s title on Raw last week, but the match ended in a disqualification when Lashley had Riddle in the Hurt Lock in the ropes and wouldn’t let go. Lashley then put Riddle (who had helped eliminate Lashley from the Royal Rumble the night before) in the Hurt Lock two more times after the match and threw him over the barricade.

Lashley has been United States Champion since August of last year.

Tonight was the first time Lee has appeared on WWE programming since January 11.

Here’s the updated card for Elimination Chamber:

  • WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defends against Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, The Miz, and Sheamus in an Elimination Chamber match
  • Raw Women’s Champion Asuka defends against Lacey Evans
  • United States Champion Bobby Lashley defends against Riddle and Keith Lee in a triple threat match

Two title matches, Miz TV segment set for WWE Raw

Two title matches involving members of The Hurt Business are set for tonight’s post-Royal Rumble episode of Raw.

WWE has announced that Riddle will get his shot at Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship on Raw tonight. Lashley’s Hurt Business stablemates Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander are also defending their Raw Tag Team titles against The Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado) on tonight’s show.

Riddle got the US title shot by defeating The Hurt Business’ Benjamin, MVP, and Alexander in a gauntlet match last Monday. That match featured dissension between Alexander and his stablemates.

Lashley attacked Riddle after last week’s gauntlet match and put him in the Hurt Lock.

Riddle, Big E, Daniel Bryan, and Christian eliminated Lashley in last night’s men’s Royal Rumble match.

Lashley quickly retained his United States title against Riddle on the January 11 episode of Raw after attacking Riddle before the bell rang.

Metalik & Dorado defeated Benjamin & Alexander in a non-title match on Raw Legends Night last month.

Metalik & Dorado are taking part in NXT’s men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and will face Legado Del Fantasma’s Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde in a quarterfinal match on NXT this Wednesday.

WWE is also hyping that The Miz has promised that he’ll have rapper Bad Bunny on Miz TV tonight. Bad Bunny, who performed his song “Booker T” at the Royal Rumble, hit a crossbody from the top rope on The Miz and John Morrison at the pay-per-view after Miz destroyed his equipment.

Hurt Business gauntlet, Charlotte vs. Baszler added to WWE Raw

WWE has made a couple of additional announcements for Raw’s Royal Rumble go-home show.

Riddle will face The Hurt Business’ Shelton Benjamin, Cedric Alexander, and MVP in a gauntlet match on Raw this Monday. If Riddle wins, he’ll earn a shot at Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship. WWE hasn’t announced when Riddle will be getting his title shot.

Benjamin will be Riddle’s first opponent in the gauntlet match. Benjamin & Alexander are the Raw Tag Team Champions.

On Raw two weeks ago, Lashley retained the United States title against Riddle after attacking him before the bell rang.

WWE has also announced that Charlotte Flair will face Shayna Baszler in a singles match on this Monday’s Raw. Charlotte & Asuka won the Women’s Tag Team titles from Baszler & Nia Jax at last month’s TLC pay-per-view.

Charlotte and Baszler were the final two in last year’s women’s Royal Rumble match. Charlotte, Baszler, and Jax have all declared for this year’s women’s Royal Rumble.

Here’s the updated lineup for Monday’s Raw.

  • WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Goldberg return ahead of their title match at the Royal Rumble
  • Raw Women’s Champion Asuka defends against Alexa Bliss
  • Hurt Business gauntlet match: Riddle vs. Shelton Benjamin, Cedric Alexander, and MVP (if Riddle wins, he becomes the number one contender to Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship)
  • Charlotte Flair vs. Shayna Baszler

Eight-man tag match added to WWE Raw

Ahead of Sunday’s pay-per-view, four of the five members of Raw’s Survivor Series men’s team will team up on tonight’s go-home edition of Raw.

WWE has announced that Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman & Riddle (w/ AJ Styles) will face RETRIBUTION (Mustafa Ali, T-Bar, Mace & Slapjack) in an eight-man tag match on Raw tonight:

In recent week’s the members of the Men’s Survivor Series Team have had a hard time getting into the team spirit, [in spite] of (or maybe because of) the effects of their self-professed Team Captain AJ Styles.

Tonight, Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman & Riddle will look to contend with RETRIBUTION in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match.

Can The Phenomenal One find a way to help his team coexist effectively against the forces of anarchy? Will Team Raw pick up valuable momentum heading into Survivor Series this Sunday? Or will RETRIBUTION use Team Raw’s inner conflict against them to assure they don’t even make it out of Monday Night Raw? Find out tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Styles, Lee, Sheamus, Strowman & Riddle will face Team SmackDown in the men’s five-on-five traditional Survivor Series elimination match on Sunday. Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Baron Corbin, and Seth Rollins have qualified for Team SmackDown thus far. There’s one spot remaining on SmackDown’s team.

Two title matches are set for tonight’s episode of Raw. WWE Champion Randy Orton will defend his title against Drew McIntyre on the show, while Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) will defend their titles against The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin). The winner of Orton vs. McIntyre will face Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a non-title champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series. The team that wins tonight’s Tag Team title match will face SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits in a non-title champion vs. champion match on Sunday.

Riddle qualifies for WWE Survivor Series, Team Raw fully set

Team Raw for Survivor Series is now fully set.

On tonight’s episode of Raw, Riddle was confirmed as the final member of Raw’s Survivor Series men’s team. He defeated Elias and Jeff Hardy in a triple threat second chance qualifying match. Riddle pinned Elias after hitting Bro Derek.

This was Matt Riddle’s first appearance on WWE television since having his name adjusted. He’s no longer using his first name on TV.

Riddle will be on Team Raw with AJ Styles, Keith Lee, Sheamus, and Braun Strowman. They’re facing Team SmackDown in a five-on-five traditional Survivor Series elimination match. Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Baron Corbin, and Seth Rollins have qualified for Team SmackDown thus far.

Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, and Lana are on Raw’s Survivor Series women’s team. Bianca Belair and Ruby Riott have qualified for Team SmackDown.

Survivor Series is taking place on Sunday, November 22. Here’s the updated card for the pay-per-view:

  • The Undertaker will appear for his “Final Farewell”
  • Non-title champion vs. champion match: WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns
  • Non-title champion vs. champion match: Raw Women’s Champion Asuka vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks
  • Non-title champion vs. champion match: Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)
  • Non-title champion vs. champion match: United States Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn
  • Men’s five-on-five Survivor Series elimination match: Team Raw (AJ Styles, Keith Lee, Sheamus, Braun Strowman & Riddle) vs. Team SmackDown (Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Baron Corbin, Seth Rollins, and one wrestler to be announced)
  • Women’s five-on-five Survivor Series elimination match: Team Raw (Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke & Lana) vs. Team SmackDown (Bianca Belair, Ruby Riott, and three wrestlers to be announced)

WWE Raw live results: Second chance qualifying match

Date: November 9, 2020
Location: Amway Center in Orlando, FL

The Big Takeaway —

Next week’s Raw will feature a WWE Championship match between Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre, plus New Day defend the tag titles against Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander.

McIntyre won a six-man tag match with New Day over Orton, Miz and Morrison. Orton didn’t get involved in the match.

Matt Riddle qualified for Team Raw after defeating Elias and Jeff Hardy. He also went on to get the pin in a tag match with Keith Lee over Sheamus and Braun Strowman.

Bray Wyatt was not on the show. Alexa Bliss appeared briefly in a backstage segment with Nikki Cross.

Raw was quite bad, at least until the last 40 minutes or so (which featured Ali vs. Ricochet and the six-man main event).

Show Recap —

They announced that Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will face Randy Orton, Miz and John Morrison tonight. Also, Asuka faces Nia Jax, which they said could be one of the main events of WrestleMania if it were for the championship.

MizTV with The Miz & John Morrison

They let Morrison come out to his own music but he still acted like Miz’s parrot. Miz hyped tonight’s main event and plugged his show. He was going to introduce New Day but Randy Orton interrupted.

Orton didn’t appreciate that Miz thought his show was more important than any match he is in. Orton accused Miz of calling Stamford to put him in this situation because the briefcase was the only way he could win the title.

Orton said they kicked Miz out of the locker room years ago and wished they never let him back in. He also told Morrison that he took his ball and went home years ago just to wrestle in the minor leagues.

Orton turned his back and offered Miz a shot. Miz and Morisson decided to play nice instead. Miz said they just wanted to get closer to the tag team championships.

New Day interrupted. They thought it was funny that the men in the ring were going off with verbal strong style so they wanted to go in the ring to laugh at them for it. As soon as New Day hit the ring, Orton gave Kingston an RKO. Miz and Morrison tossed Woods from the ring.

McIntyre sprinted out to go after Orton but Miz hit him from behind with the briefcase. Miz and Morrison held up McIntyre so Orton could give him an RKO. Orton left on his own.

Orton was good on the mic here. Kingston came across like a geek after getting RKO’d.

Triple threat qualifying match: Matt Riddle defeated Elias and Jeff Hardy (8:55)

Elias was in the ring for a promo. He began playing guitar but stopped early on purpose in anticipation of someone interrupting. He started playing for real but was interrupted by Hardy.

Matt Riddle is, in fact, “Riddle” now. His tron only shows his last name and that’s how he was introduced.

They went to break less than 2 minutes into the match. Elias was in control before and after the break. Hardy made a comeback which led to everyone trading moves. Hardy set up Riddle for the Twist of Fate but Elias caught him with a knee strike. Riddle then gave Elias a Bro Derek for the pinfall win. Riddle qualifies for Team Raw. Not much of a match.

Styles (with Jordan Omogbehin) spoke to Adam Pearce in the back. They shook hands. After Pearce left, Charly Caruso asked Styles what the conversation was about. Styles said it wasn’t about anything, they were talking as friends. She asked if he was happy about Riddle qualifying and he said yes. He thought Riddle was what they were missing. Sheamus interrupted.

Sheamus wasn’t happy because he didn’t like Riddle and threatened to kick his head off if he stepped out of line. Styles thought they should have a team meeting tonight. Caruso asked Sheamus how he thought Styles was doing as team captain. Sheamus said Styles wasn’t his captain. Braun Strowman showed up too just to say that Styles wasn’t his captain either.

Elsewhere, Mustafa Ali said Ricochet was a good guy and courageous for standing on his own. However, you can’t change anything on your own. Mia Yim said it was easy to feel alone when you were misguided. Ali said, “we will not rest until we shut you down.” (Yim made mention of being laughed at by a green and pink-haired person, which is likely a reference to Asuka.)

Drew Gulak, wearing a suit, approached the Hurt Business. Basically, he wanted to join but they turned him down. Bobby Lashley was going to grab him by the tie but it was a clip-on tie so it came right off. MVP couldn’t believe he approached them wearing a cheap tie so they beat him up. R-Truth showed up and pinned Gulak to win the 24/7 title.

There was a Veterans Day video.

Shayna Baszler (w/Nia Jax) defeated Lana (1:53)

Lana had second thoughts before coming to the ring. They aired a replay of every time Jax put her through a table along with a counter on the screen.

Baszler won quickly with the Kirifuda Clutch. (She could have won moments earlier by pinfall but pulled Lana up at two.)

Baszler and Jax were going to put Lana through the table again but Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke (who were on commentary) stopped them.

[Second hour]

There was an awkward meeting backstage with Lana, Rose and Brooke. Lana thanked them for helping her but they were annoyed and told her to stay out of their way. Either somebody flubbed a line or they wrote dialogue that didn’t make any sense.

Team Raw team meeting

Styles introduced each member of Team Raw. Riddle had on different gear than what he wore earlier. They all stood facing the hard camera which looked completely unnatural.

Styles reiterated that Riddle was their missing piece. This led to an argument. Riddle thought all they needed were code names. (He also wished Keith Lee a happy birthday.) Riddle said Styles was “Skipper” and Sheamus was “Fireface.” Sheamus didn’t like this. Sheamus thought Riddle’s name should be “Dopey.” Riddle laughed and said he was right.

Styles stopped him from continuing. Styles mentioned the roll that Jey Uso was on and also put over Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Baron Corbin.

Styles called himself the captain again which almost led to another argument. Styles cut them off and said he spoke to Pearce and had a match made: Sheamus and Strowman against Riddle and Lee. Styles would be the special referee. They argued.

This really sucked.

Keith Lee & Matt Riddle defeated Braun Strowman & Sheamus – with referee AJ Styles (12:25)

Strowman and Sheamus had the heat on Riddle. Riddle kicked Styles by accident so Styles couldn’t count when Sheamus put Riddle in a schoolboy. Sheamus got in Styes’ face so Riddle tried another kick but Sheamus ducked and Styles got kicked again.

Strowman and Lee ran at each other but Styles somehow got between them and got crushed. This led to Big Jordan getting in the ring which… led to a break. After the break, Jordan was back outside the ring and Styles was fine.

Lee made a big comeback which included him chucking Sheamus’ body into Strowman. Lee also powerbombed Riddle on top of Sheamus. Lee followed with a big clothesline on Strowman for a nearfall. Sheamus tagged himself in and nailed Lee with a knee strike and Brogue Kick.

Riddle tagged in and gave Sheamus a German suplex for two. Riddle followed with strikes but Strowman got in his way which allowed Sheamus to knock him down. Sheamus set up for the Brogue Kick but Strowman tagged himself in. Strowman set up for the powerslam but Sheamus tagged himself in. Sheamus also knocked Strowman off the apron with a Brogue Kick.

Riddle then caught Sheamus in a schoolboy for the pinfall win. Two wins tonight for Riddle. The action following the break was good.

Alexa Bliss plucked petals off flowers in the back when she was approached by Nikki Cross. Bliss was happy to see her for the first time in he a while. Cross reminded her that she saw her last week. Bliss hoped that Cross has been enjoying the funhouse and thought about inviting her on.

Cross was worried about Bliss and “him.” Cross said she was there for her. She warned Bliss about the Fiend before saying Bliss needed to choose between her and him. Bliss blew petals in her face and said she chose “him.” Bliss laughed and walked off.

Caruso said Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander would face New Day for the tag titles next week.

MVP and Lashley came to the ring. MVP said Benjamin and Alexander would win the tag titles and Lashley would make short work of Sami Zayn.

Titus O’Neil interrupted. He said they disrespected him a few weeks ago. MVP had respect for him and offered him an opportunity to walk away or else. O’Neil refused and questioned Lashley’s pride considering he never defends the title. Lashley offered him a title match right now.

Bobby Lashley (w/MVP) defeated Titus O’Neil to retain the US Championship (1:05)

Lashley won quickly with a spear and Hurt Lock.

This was bad. Lashley couldn’t quite get the Hurt Lock applied because O’Neil was too big and immobile. Lashley seemed to know that it didn’t look good so he went into the ropes to buy time (knowing the ref wouldn’t call for the bell if they were in the ropes) but O’Neil was tapping anyway. Lashley eventually locked in the hold and stepped away from the ropes. The ref finally called for the bell even though O’Neil was tapping the entire time.

In the back, Sheamus was pissed and complained about his match to McIntyre. McIntyre said he should perhaps avoid Brogue kicking his teammates. Sheamus said he hated his teammates as much as McIntyre hated his. McIntyre started doing the “New Day rocks” clap. Sheamus called him a lunatic.

They reminisced about teaming together and drinking kegs years ago. This caused Sheamus to calm down. Sheamus wished him luck and said they could go for beers later. McIntyre said they could have more than a few pints when he wins the title back.

Non-title match: Raw Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Nia Jax (w/Shayna Baszler) via disqualification (7:50)

[Third hour]

I erased my recap of this match because it doesn’t matter. Asuka had Jax in the Asuka Lock but Baszler broke it up for the DQ.

Jax and Baszler beat up Rose and Brooke and Lana (who had been watching at ringside) after they got involved. Jax put Lana through the table again. Jax told Lana she was dragging them down.

Sarah Schrieber interviewed Truth about having to defend his title in a seven-way match. Truth didn’t seem to understand that he had to be in the match until she made it clear. He did some “comedy” until his music began playing and he went to the ring.

Angel Garza promo. I think he said he’s vying for every woman in the world. I wish him luck.

Akira Tozawa defeated R-Truth, Drew Gulak, Gran Metalik, Lince Dorado, Erik and Tucker to win the 24/7 Championship (0:24)

Tozawa pinned Truth quickly as everyone else brawled to win the belt.

This led to everyone pinning each other to win the belt in the following order: Erik beat Tozawa, Gulak beat Erik, Tucker beat Gulak, Gulak beat Tucker, Tucker beat Gulak, Gran Metalik beat Tucker, Lince Dorado beat Gran Metalik, Truth beat Lince Dorado. They all ran after Truth. This was embarrassing.

Mustafa Ali (w/Retribution) defeated Ricochet (13:58)

Ricochet sent Ali off the apron with a hurricanrana. Retribution surrounded him to cause a distraction. They cut to break just as Ali was about to give him a swinging neckbreaker.

Ali used another neckbreaker after the break for two. Ricochet came back with a dragon suplex. They traded counters until Ricochet hit a northern lights suplex and floated over into a brainbuster for a nearfall. Ali followed with a great-looking backstabber off the top for a nearfall.

Ali taunted and slapped Ricochet who fired back with a forearm and reverse rana. Ricochet did a springboard corkscrew dive onto Retribution on the outside (minus Yim). Ricochet tried a Pheonix splash but Ali moved and applied a Koji Clutch. Ricochet passed out and the ref called for the bell. Ali wins. Fun match.

Pearce told Orton that he will defend the title against McIntyre on Raw next week. Orton shoved him against the wall. Pearce said he was just the messenger. Orton told him to tell the “staff” that they can go to hell.

Six-man tag match: Drew McIntyre and Raw Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton, The Miz & John Morrison (13:11)

New Day took out Miz and Morrison with dives. McIntyre taunted Orton who watched from ringside as they went to break less than 3 minutes into the match.

A distraction allowed the heels to take control of Woods after the break. Miz wanted to tag Orton but he didn’t want to get involved (in case he had to face McIntyre). Miz used It Kicks in the corner but Woods came back with a clothesline and tagged in McIntyre.

McIntyre handed out suplexes before suplexing both Miz and Morrison at the same time, which looked great. McIntyre gave Morrison a neckbreaker and Future Shock DDT as he stared at Orton.

McIntyre set up for the Claymore kick but decided to slide Morrison over to the corner so Orton could tag in. Orton teased tagging in but didn’t.

Morrison tried a schoolboy with his feet on the rope but Woods pushed him off. Miz took out Woods while Morrison wiped out Kingston with a dive.

Miz tried a sneak attack but McIntyre gave him a spinebuster and hit Morrison with a headbutt. McIntyre followed with a Claymore kick for the pinfall win. McIntyre taunted Orton as they went off the air.

Second chance qualifier, Moment of Bliss segment set for WWE Raw

A second chance qualifying match and a Moment of Bliss segment are set for Monday’s episode of Raw.

The final spot on Raw’s Survivor Series men’s team will be determined as Jeff Hardy, Riddle, and Elias face off in a triple threat qualifying match on Monday’s Raw. All three wrestlers lost their original qualifying matches. Hardy lost to AJ Styles, Riddle lost to Sheamus, and Elias lost to Keith Lee.

The winner of the second chance qualifying match will join Styles, Sheamus, Lee, and Braun Strowman on Team Raw for their traditional five-on-five Survivor Series elimination match against Team SmackDown. Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, Baron Corbin, and Seth Rollins have qualified for Team SmackDown thus far. Survivor Series is taking place on Sunday, November 22.

Hardy and Elias faced off on Raw last week, with Hardy defeating Elias in a Guitar on a Pole match.

Matt Riddle is now going by “Riddle” on WWE television after WWE adjusted his name.

WWE has also announced that Alexa Bliss will host a Moment of Bliss segment with Drew McIntyre as her guest on Monday’s Raw:

Drew McIntyre has had only one thing on his mind since WWE Hell in a Cell: Regain the WWE Championship. Alexa Bliss will welcome the Scottish Superstar to ‘A Moment of Bliss’ after hosting the current WWE Champion Randy Orton last week.

McIntyre made his championship intentions clear last week, but he’s not the only one who has targeted The Viper. The Fiend will deliver his own message to McIntyre on behalf of Bliss on Monday Night Raw. The Miz & John Morrison were also incensed after McIntyre Claymore Kicked The A-Lister’s Money in the Bank cash-in attempt.

Will ‘A Moment of Bliss’ serve as another trap for its latest guest? Or can McIntyre turn the tables on the host and his rivals?

Catch the always controversial talk show this Monday at 8/7 C on Raw on the USA Network.

Matt Riddle gets name adjustment, now going by ‘Riddle’ in WWE

WWE has made an adjustment to Matt Riddle’s on-screen name.

Riddle is no longer using his first name on WWE television and will now be going by “Riddle” going forward. PWinsider reports that the decision was made by WWE earlier today. WWE.com has also been updated to reflect the change and no longer includes references to Riddle’s first name.

Riddle tweeted about the name change: “People it’s okay I’ve been called Riddle most my life, I actually prefer it and it’s my real last name #bro #stallion #RIDDLE”

After being called up to SmackDown earlier this year, Riddle switched brands in this month’s WWE Draft and is now a member of the Raw roster. He lost a Survivor Series qualifying match to Sheamus on this Monday’s episode of Raw. Riddle lost to AJ Styles on Raw the previous week, with Styles getting the win after repeated involvement from his new bodyguard Jordan Omogbehin.
