Will Ospreay wins RevPro British Heavyweight title at High Stakes

Will Ospreay is the new RevPro British Heavyweight champion.

Ospreay defeated Zack Sabre Jr. at today’s High Stakes 2020 event at York Hall in London, England to capture the championship for the first time. He has previously won the Cruiserweight title twice and the Undisputed British Tag Team title once.

Ospreay and Sabre have been feuding over the title in New Japan Pro Wrestling in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Sabre defeated Ospreay to retain the title on the second day of New Beginning in Sapporo.

Following that match, Ospreay was able to score the win over Sabre in an elimination match featuring members of CHAOS and Suzuki-gun on the February 4 Road to New Beginning show. Ospreay then challenged Sabre to a match at High Stakes on Twitter, saying the win was proof that he could pin Sabre’s shoulders.

Two other titles changed hands today at High Stakes. Oku defeated ELP to win the Cruiserweight championship, while Gisele Shaw defeated Zoe Lucas to win the Women’s championship.

ZSJ vs. Ospreay British title rematch set for RevPro High Stakes

The main event of NJPW’s Road to the New Beginning show this morning set up a British Heavyweight Championship rematch for Revolution Pro Wrestling.

British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. will defend his title against Will Ospreay at RevPro’s High Stakes event at York Hall in London, England on Friday, February 14. It’s a rematch from NJPW’s New Beginning in Sapporo night two, where Sabre defeated Ospreay to retain his title.

Chaos (Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, SHO & YOH) faced off with Suzuki-gun (Sabre, Taichi, El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) in an elimination match at today’s Road to the New Beginning show. The match came down to Ospreay and Sabre, with Ospreay pinning Sabre after hitting the Stormbreaker.

After pinning Sabre, Ospreay cut a promo where he challenged Sabre to another British Heavyweight title match. Ospreay also posted a tweet hyping up the match: “Tonight I proved I can put Zack’s shoulder to the mat. My 7 year journey will come full circle in the place it all begun. Friday 14th February • York Hall • Bethnal Green, London • Main Event Big Match Billy. Time to come home @RevProUK”

Sabre has been RevPro British Heavyweight Champion four times, while Ospreay has never held the title.
