NJPW World Tag League Finals live results: Tsuji & Kidd vs. TMDK

NJPW crowns the winners of the 2025 World Tag League tournament today in Kumamoto.

Yota Tsuji and Gabe Kidd face TMDK’s Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa in today’s finals, with the winners in line for a shot at the IWGP Tag Team Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 20 next month. OSKAR and Yuto-Ice currently hold those titles.

The NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship is on the line in today’s semi-main event, with Toru Yano, YOH, and Master Wato defending their belts against EVIL, SANADA, and Ren Narita.

The other title match on the show is in the opener, with NJPW World TV Champion El Phantasmo defending in an open challenge against a mystery opponent.

A series of tag team bouts fill out today’s undercard, with angles setting up the Road to Tokyo Dome tour likely to take place on today’s show. Road to Tokyo Dome shows take place on December 19, 21, and 22, the final stops before Wrestle Kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026.

Main Show

El Phantasmo defeated Hartly Jackson for the NJPW World Television Championship

Phantasmo struggled to attain any momentum against the girthy Jackson. The thick Aussie dragged his Canadian opponent onto the entrance, but the champion rebounded by catapulting him into the barricade. Jackson recovered with a Jagged Edge onto the hard floor.

Hoping to leverage his larger opponent for a vertical suplex, Phantasmo instead gasped for breath after being flipped onto the unforgiving cerulean mat. A Flying Crossbody and a Moonsault teetered Phantasmo closer to control, punctuated by a bottom rope elbow drop.

Jackson charged into Phantasmo’s corner, only to meet a Tornado-DDT that staggered the giant to the mat. A senton from the gargantuan challenger faded into the champion’s crucifix pin for a nearfall. Another Jagged Edge failed to seal the deal. With a CR2 and a Thunderkiss ’86, Phantasmo defeated Jackson to retain the Television Championship.

(Neat sprint to start the show. Ultimately, a friendly David vs Goliath bout with some close calls.)

Monster Sauce (Alex Zayne & Lance Archer), Team 100 (Satoshi Kojima & Taichi), & Masatora Yasuda defeated Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI), Katsuya Murashima, Oleg Boltin, & Tatsuya Matsumoto

Young Lions Murashima and Yasuda began the match, seeing the former overbear the latter with tenacious strength. Zayne tagged in, biting Murashima’s fingers. Goto momentarily gave young Murashima a moment of respite, but Taichi inflicted further pain. Goto and YOSHI-HASHI coordinated to fell Archer onto Taichi’s carcass.

Joined by Boltin and Matsumoto, Bishamon delivered a flurry of fists on Kojima’s back. Boltin impressed the Kumamoto crowd by twisting Archer around in a Boltin Shake. Kojima unleashed a torrent of chest shots to tenderize the Kazakh powerhouse. Matsumoto, Murashima, and Bishamon united against Kojima. Boltin, Bishamon, Matsumoto, and Murashima dogpiled Kojima. This was broken by Archer slamming Zayne onto the mountain of bodies.

Kojima survived Matsumoto’s elbow drop and dropkick to whip out a lariat to finish the ten-man tag.

(This match set up Matsumoto nicely as someone to keep an eye on in the Young Lions’ division. Kojima suffering during the dogpile spot was hilarious.)

House Of Torture (Don Fale, SHO, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) defeated El Desperado, Shoma Kato, & Shuji Ishikawa

SHO denigrated Kumamoto and his opponents to lull them into a false sense of security for an ambush. Ishikawa handled Fale enough to ensure a stalemate. Desperado sped onto the scene, dancing in and out of SHO’s wrist holds. Kanemaru exposed a turnbuckle and held Kato down as SHO dismembered Desperado.

Kato surprised Kanemaru with a headscissors takedown following Desperado’s vertical suplex. Kato pulled full throttle on a Boston Crab to SHO’s prone body. Fale slammed Kato, offering him up for SHO to successfully pin.

(Aside from the occasional interferences from Fale and Kanemaru, this was a fine trios match.)

War Dragons (Drilla Moloney & Shingo Takagi) & Taiji Ishimori defeated House Of Torture (Chase Owens, DOUKI, & Yujiro Takahashi)

Ishimori and DOUKI circled each other, the latter clearly alerting the former to House of Torture’s looming dirty tactics. Though DOUKI gained control of Ishimori, he couldn’t evade the quick wit of the Bone Soldier. Owens brawled with Takagi into the crowd. He joined Takahashi, who incapacitated Moloney, to assist DOUKI’s torture of Ishimori.

Moloney speared and vertically suplexed Owens. Takagi joined Moloney to break Owens. He then used his power to withstand Owens. Moloney and Takagi combined their efforts to punish Owens with a War Dragon to finish the bout.

(This match largely focused on the Junior Heavyweight rivalry between Ishimori and DOUKI more than anything. However, this continued to expand on the month-plus build of the War Dogs working in tandem with the former Los Ingobrenable de Japon.)

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shota Umino, & Yuya Uemura defeated Knockout Brothers (OSKAR & Yuto-Ice) & Daiki Nagai

Umino handled Yuto-Ice and OSKAR before ultimately being slammed down by the towering latter. Yuto-Ice punched Uminio in the gut as OSKAR held his arms back. The Knockout Brothers continued their nonexistent faith in Nagai, refusing to tag him in. They teased him, tagging him in just to tag him back out; Umino took advantage of this by charging both men.

Uemura sprinted in, slamming into the brick wall that was Yuto-Ice, who had elbows waiting for him. An arm drag lent Uemura some momentum for his team, wrecking Yuto-Ice. The Ace finally tagged in, swinging a comeback for his team with a series of moves, concluding with a senton.

With his oppressive teammates disposed of, Nagai tagged in, suplexing Tanahashi. Proceeding with a Spinebuster, Nagai earned enough time for Yuto-Ice and then OSKAR to halt the trajectory of the opposing team. Uemura, Uminio, and Tanahashi equalized their opponents. Nagai’s spirit burned with passion, but Tanahashi extinguished it with a Sling Blade and a High-Fly Flow.

(Nagai’s bitterness toward his new teammates drove the match in an interesting direction, which can lead to an exciting shift once Knockout Brothers take note of his contributions. That was the real meat to this match, that and Tanahashi’s impending retirement.)

David Finlay & Hiromu Takahashi versus United Empire (Callum Newman & Great-O-Khan) ended in disqualification

Before the match could start, Takahashi and Finlay ambushed United Empire en route to the ring. Khan recovered in time to propel Finlay into the steel blue barricade. Newman did the same to Takahashi. Hurling Finlay into rows of chairs, Khan’s actions were replicated by Takahashi to Newman. Fans parted from their seats as Finlay drove Khan near a wall. Newman usurped Takahashi, battering him against the ring apron and the barricade.

At last in the ring, Newman rained elbows into Takahashi’s jaw. Dispatching Takahashi and Finlay, Newman tagged in Khan. Takahashi tried to give chase, but Khan sent him down with strikes that echoed Newman’s earlier ones. Withstanding a Mongolian Chop, Takahashi used Khan’s momentum for a roll-up pin that failed. Finlay leapt into action, clobbering Khan in the corner with forearm strikes. Finlay’s powerbomb bolstered the damage sustained by Khan. Newman tossed a steel chair at Finlay’s skull, disqualifying him and Khan.

Post-match: Newman then assaulted Takahashi with his own GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship. Continuing his berserk siege, Newman took Gedo’s body (unconscious thanks to Jakob Austin Young) and placed his head in a steel chair. Finlay chased him off as the crowd booed him away. They left Young to be picked apart by the War Dogs and Shingo Takagi. Finlay delivered an impassioned speech about remembering who he is. He challenged the United Empire to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 20.

Master Wato, Toru Yano & YOH (c) defeated House Of Torture (EVIL, Ren Narita & SANADA) for the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Championship

Unsurprisingly, House of Torture waylaid the champions from behind on the way to the ring. When the match started, YOH overcame the team before twisting SANADA like a pretzel, who returned the favor. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, wearing a referee shirt, allowed SANADA to pin YOH and called for the bell.

SHO issued a challenge for the House of Torture and the now-former champions at Wrestle Kingdom to settle the rivalry once and for all. YOH instead demanded they return to the ring. Referee Marty Asami and Aaron Wolfe corralled the House of Torture back to the ringside. SANADA and Narita continued clobbering SHO in the ring. The stable resumed beating down on Yano and Wato. When Wolfe tried to pull them off, he was sent away.

The match resumed, as Yano was sent into an exposed turnbuckle by SANADA. EVIL suffocated Yano with a choker. Asami prevented Wato and YOH from rescuing him. Yano briefly flashed some fighting spirit, but Narita grounded him again with a nasty leg hold. Wato swung a comeback with tijeras takedowns on all three House of Torture opponents, punctuated with a tope con hilo. EVIL tripped Wato before he could take advantage of Narita’s weakened state. House of Torture used a Dick-to-Dick Contact on Wato. Mirroring the start of the match, YOH tied up SANADA in the Paradise Lock before hitting him with a dropkick. SANADA snuck in a low blow. Distracting Asami with a teased guitar shot, SHO choked YOH. Narita took his turn to distract Asami with a pipe. Finally swinging his guitar, SANADA missed and received karmic justice in a low blow. Wolfe returned to fire back against the House of Torture. YOH pinned SANADA to retain the championship.

(What a mess. I’m sure there could have been a better way to build heat between Wolfe and EVIL. This just felt like a waste of time that only made YOH look stronger.)

Main Event: World Tag League 2025 Final

TMDK (Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr.) defeated Gabe Kidd & Yota Tsuji

Oiwa gained an early advantage with a side headlock. Tsuji fired back as he gained momentum running the ropes, eventually grounding Oiwa. Sabre entrapped Kidd, dancing around in every grapple reversal. OIwa enforced control over Kidd’s shoulder, twisting around to wear him down. Kidd powered out of Oiwa’s wrist control from a preceding arm drag, only to wind up there again. Sabre manipulated Kidd’s fingers, tying his arms behind his back.

TMDK combined their efforts to tweak Kidd’s arms. Tsuji rescued him at the expense of his own arms. Sabre bent Kidd’s left arm into uncomfortable angles in a Hammerlock. Resorting to chops, Kidd pulverized Sabre’s flesh on the chest. Sabre made it back to the ring at the 17-count following Kidd’s thrashing at the barricade. Tsuji and Kidd pelted Sabre’s chest until it was raw and pink. Oiwa barreled in with a double clothesline to his opponents. Kidd supplanted Oiwa from the top rope with an avalanche suplex. Oiwa bounced back with a Tenzan Suplex. Flatline by Tsuji set Sabre up for Kidd’s arduous chest slaps. Sabre set Oiwa up for a lariat + roll-up, which Kidd countered. Tsuji rescued Kidd from Sabre’s jackknife. Kidd and Sabre exchanged kicks, rendering both men flat.

Sabre dodged a Marlowe Crash for a Guillotine Clutch. Tsuji responded in kind with a Boston Crab. TMDK pulled their opponent’s arms back so far, forcing their opponents to watch each other. Kidd soon found the strength to launch Oiwa into Sabre. After a Marlowe Crash, Tsuji set his sights on a Gene Blaster, only for Sabre to counter with a Zack Driver. Kidd suffered after a Doctor Bomb, but fired back after a powerbomb of his own. Tsuji and Kidd nearly finished TMDK with a Kidd Blaster to Oiwa, but Sabre thwarted them. Sabre held Tsuji at bay on the apron whilst Oiwa trounced Kidd with The Grip to win the 2025 World Tag League.

(I thoroughly enjoyed this match, but it was a bit too long. That said, turning the match into a quiet singles outing in the second half between Kidd and Oiwa added to the drama. Moreover, this match gave credence to Oiwa for winning a major NJPW tournament. Here’s to many more.)

Final Thoughts

Perhaps the best match on this show is the Final itself. It had the tension, the drama, the frenetic and brutal pace to conclude the night on a high note. Especially for the feel-good moment for Ryohei Oiwa. The House of Torture trios match, I can’t say the same. The trios and ten-man tag matches were standard fare. But Hartley Jackson and El Phantasmo’s battle was entertaining.

First team advances to NJPW World Tag League 2025 finals

Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa are heading to the finals of NJPW World Tag League 2025.

The tournament semifinals began today with TMDK defeating Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) to earn their spot in Sunday’s finals. They’ll be facing either OSKAR & Yuto Ice or Yota Tsuji & Gabe Kidd to determine the Tag League champions.

Sabre & Oiwa finished second in B Block but were able to defeat the A Block champions in the semifinals. At the end of a 24-minute match, Oiwa connected with a Chaos Theory suplex on Goto. Sabre then followed up with a pin on Goto for the win.

Backstage after their victory, Oiwa spoke about wanting to claim his first trophy in NJPW. Sabre said they’re ready to defeat whichever team they face in the finals.

OSKAR & Yuto-Ice and Tsuji & Kidd had a confrontation on today’s show ahead of their semifinal match taking place this Friday. Tsuji & Kidd, who have had dissension despite a successful run in the tournament, agreed to stop bickering and get on the same page.

The Tag League finals are happening in Kumamoto on December 14. Along with bragging rights, the match will determine challengers for the IWGP Tag Team titles (if champions OSKAR & Yuto-Ice do not win).

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night 12 results, updated standings

The NJPW World Tag League 2025 continued on Sunday with a show in Ehime.

After the penultimate night in B Block, two teams sit atop the group with 8 points, another four teams are tied with 6, and two teams are eliminated from advancing with 4 points.

Callum Newman and Great-O-Khan (4-2) picked up a win over El Phantasmo and Hiroshi Tanahashi (2-4) in the opening tournament match of the show. The finish saw Tanahashi take O-Khan out on the outside leaving Newman and ELP the legal wrestlers. They exchanged pinning combinations until Newman grabbed a fistful of trunks and got the three count. The loss officially eliminates Tanahashi and ELP from advancing. Tanahashi went all around the ringside area greeting fans after the match as it will be his last time wrestling in Ehime.

Monster Sauce (Alex Zayne & Lance Archer) (3-3) beat IWGP Tag Team Champions The Knockout Brothers (Yuto-Ice & OSKAR) (3-3) in the second tournament match, which began with both teams brawling around the venue. The finish saw Monster Sauce get a near fall off Blackout Sauce on Yuto-Ice, but OSKAR broke up the pin and tossed Zayne out of the ring. OSKAR and Archer were then fighting on the turnbuckle when Zayne got back involved briefly, attempting what looked like a flying headscissors, but OSKAR tossed him to the floor again. Archer then ran in with a knee to OSKAR, gave him his Blackout finisher on top of Ice, and pinned Ice for the win. Archer cut a promo after the match and said Monster Sauce would win the tag league and go on to win the tag titles.

Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa (3-3) kept their tournament hopes alive with a win over David Finlay and Hiromu Takahashi (2-4) in the semi-main event, eliminating their opponents from advancing. The finish saw Finlay once again attempt to slam his unwilling partner into his opponents, but missed and ended up slamming Takahashi into the turnbuckle instead. Moments later, ZSJ wrapped Takahashi up in a pinning combination and got the win. After the match, Finlay and Takahashi argued on the way to the back.

Shota Umino & Yuya Uemura (4-2) beat House of Torture’s SANADA & Ren Narita (3-3) in the main event of a show in Uemura’s hometown. The finish saw a ref bump and Dick Togo II (SHO) run in. However, SANADA missed a guitar shot and ended up hitting Narita. With SANADA and Uemura the two legal men, SANADA missed a shining wizard, Uemura hit a step up elbow drop followed by his Deadbolt Suplex for the win. Umino and Uemura cut promos after the match, but translations weren’t immediately available.

Heading into the final night of B Block round robin on Tuesday, only Newman & Khan and Uemura & Umino control their own destinies at 8 points, needing only a draw to advance. Everyone tied at six points will need a win and some help to advance. The top two teams in the group advance to the semi-finals. If two teams are tied, the tie-breaker is their head-to-head result. If more than two teams are tied, the teams with the highest points total in matches against the other tied teams advance.

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night nine results, updated standings

The 2025 NJPW World Tag League continued on Tuesday in Yamanashi.

After five rounds, Gabe Kidd & Yota Tsuji sit alone atop the group at eight points and another five teams sit just below them at six points.

Toru Yano and Oleg Boltin are now 3-2 after beating Chase Owens and Yujiro Takahashi (0-5) in the first tournament match of today’s show. Boltin pinned Owens after his Kamikaze fireman’s carry slam finisher.

Bishamon (3-2) beat Don Fale & EVIL (3-2) in the second tournament match. The finish saw Dick Togo and SHO interfere, but when the dust settled, Fale picked up YOSHI-HASHI and was countered into his Itadakigari crucifix roll-up for the three count. House of Torture attacked YOSHI-HASHI after, but Goto and Tatsuya Matsumoto made the save.

Gabe Kidd and Yota Tsuji improved to a block-leading 4-1 after a tough win over Shuji Ishikawa & El Desperado (3-2) in the semi-main event. Tables and chairs factored into the bout, with Ishikawa giving Kidd a piledriver from the ring apron through a table on the outside. Kidd came up bleeding after the move but was only out of the match for one near fall. Kidd came back in, hit both his opponents with knee strikes and then tossed Desperado into a spear from Tsuji for the win. Tsuji stayed in the ring to celebrate longer than Kidd did, and they walked to the back separately. Kidd could be heard saying, “No, we won” to Tsuji before he left the ring.

The War Dragons (3-2) defeated Satoshi Kojima and Taichi (1-4) in the main event. Takagi, who was wrestling in his hometown, pinned Kojima after a Burning Dragon. After the match, Takagi cut a promo giving respect to Taichi, who is celebrating his 23rd wrestling anniversary, having debuted on December 2, 2003. Moloney cut a promo in Japanese and led the crowd in a Takagi chant. Takagi then got back on the mic and celebrated to close the show.

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night eight results, updated standings

The NJPW World Tag League continued on Sunday in Akita.

After four rounds, House of Torture’s Ren Narita and SANADA sit atop B Block with six points.

Shota Umino & Yuya Uemura (2-2) defeated Monster Sauce (2-2) in the opening tournament match. The finish saw Umino clothesline Archer out of the ring, leaving Alex Zayne to take a dragon suplex/lariat combo followed by Uemura hitting his Deadbolt Suplex for the win.

The IWGP Tag Team Champions OSKAR and Yuto-Ice (2-2) picked up their second straight win today after having dropped their first two matches. They defeated Great-O-Khan and Callum Newman (2-2) after hitting their tombstone piledriver/roundhouse kick combo move on Khan. Ice and Newman got face to face aggressively after the bout.

Ren Narita and SANADA (3-1) became the first team to hit six points with their win over David Finlay and Hiromu Takahashi (2-2) in the semi-main event. HOT members came out to interfere early in the match and handcuffed Finlay to the guardrail. They also took Gedo to the back with them leaving Takahashi to face SANADA and Narita on his own. Eventually, Gedo returned with the key to the handcuffs and released Finlay. The finish saw a ref bump, a wrench shot to the back of Takahashi’s head followed by Hell’s Guillotine for the win.

Hiroshi Tanahashi and El Phantasmo picked up their first win of the tournament defeating Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa in the main event. The finish saw ELP hit CR2 on Oiwa followed by Tanahashi hitting him with the High Fly Flow for the win. After the match, ELP apologized for having bad Japanese but led the crowd in a “Go Ace” chant, noting it would be Tanahashi’s last time wrestling in Akita. ELP and Tanahashi played air guitar before Tanahashi got on the mic with a few closing comments to close the show.

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night seven results, updated standings

NJPW’s 2025 World Tag League continued on Saturday with an event in Aomori.

After four rounds, three teams sit atop the group with 3-1 records.

The War Dragons team of Shingo Takagi and Drilla Moloney improved to 2-2 in the opening contest, beating the now 0-4 House of Torture duo of Chase Owens and Yujiro Takahashi. The finish saw a ref bump, a low blow from Takahashi on Moloney, and Owens attempting to use a branding iron before Takagi and Moloney fended off the HOT tactics. Takagi pinned Owens after a Moloney-assisted Made in Japan.

House of Torture’s tactics were more successful in the second tournament match of the night. EVIL and Don Fale improved to 3-1 with a win over Taichi and Satoshi Kojima (1-3). A ref bump led to EVIL motioning for someone from House of Torture to come out for help. Taichi made the ill-advised choice to grab a chair and walk up the ramp, expecting interference from that direction. Yoshinobu Kanemaru entered from the opposite side, hit the whiskey mist on Kojima, and EVIL followed with Everything is Evil for the pin.

El Desperado and Shuji Ishikawa improved to 3-1 with a victory over Bishamon in the semi-main event, dropping the three-time tournament winners to 2-2. Walker Stewart noted on commentary that Ishikawa and Desperado are working like a well-oiled machine right now. Ishikawa scored the fall on YOSHI-HASHI after a knee to the face and his Giant Slam finish.

The teams of Toru Yano & Boltin Oleg and Gabe Kidd & Yota Tsuji both entered today’s main event with 2-1 records. The finish saw Kidd avoid a corner charge from Yano, who ran into the exposed turnbuckle. Kidd followed with his knee-to-the-face strike before he and Tsuji hit their War Blaster spear/clothesline combo for the win.

After the match, Kidd cut an expletive-laced promo that Walker Stewart said he would not translate, even though most of it was in English. Tsuji cut a promo too but translations weren’t available. Kidd then closed the show with a very vulgar message.

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night six results, updated standings

NJPW’s 2025 World Tag League continued on Saturday with a show in Aomori.

Four B Block matches took place on the show. After three rounds, five teams are tied atop the group with 2-1 records.

Monster Sauce’s Lance Archer and Alex Zayne improved to 2-1 in the opening tournament match, handing David Finlay and Hiromu Takahashi their first loss. Takahashi and Finlay continued to not work well together during the bout. This included Takahashi tagging out immediately and running away, evidently in fear of Archer.

The finish saw Finlay, as he’s done in recent matches, attempt to throw an unwilling Takahashi onto their opponents on the outside, but Archer and Zayne caught him, rolled him back into the ring, and hit Murder Sauce for the win.

Callum Newman and Great-O-Khan improved to 2-1 with a win over Yuya Uemura and Shota Umino (1-2) in the second tournament match of the night. United Empire member Jakob Austin Young again got some cheap shots in from the outside, but the finish was clean, as Newman pinned Umino after a double foot stomp.

The semi-main event saw House of Torture use their usual tactics to hand Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa their first loss of the tournament. SANADA and Ren Narita improved to 2-1 after repeated interference led to Narita hitting the Hell’s Guillotine on Oiwa.

The main event saw two winless teams face off. The IWGP Tag Team Champions Yuto-Ice and OSKAR picked up their first win of the tournament, defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi and El Phantasmo, dropping them to 0-3. The finish saw Ice hit his Cruella running knee on Tanahashi.

Ice cut a promo after the match. While translations weren’t immediately available at commentary, he appeared to be paying respect to Tanahashi. He then yelled “Get hyped!” and “Biggup!” to close the show.

NJPW World Tag League 2025 night two results

Action in the NJPW World Tag League B Block kicked off on Saturday.

Four round-robin matches took place today in Fujisawa City.

The Monstersauce team of Lance Archer and Alex Zayne overcame House of Torture tactics in the opening match to pick up a win over SANADA and Ren Narita. Despite ref bumps and whisky sprays, Archer & Zayne hit their tag team finish Blackout Sauce on SANADA for the win.

The second match saw TMDK’s Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa pick up a win over United Empire’s Great-O-Khan and Callum Newman in a back-and-forth match that saw TMDK hit a double team big boot/German suplex combo for the win.

The semi-main event of night saw Yuya Uemura and Shota Umino pick up the win over El Phantasmo and Hiroshi Tanahashi after hitting a clothesline into a Dragon Suplex combo on ELP followed by Umino hitting him with The Second Chapter. After the match, three of the four wrestlers got on their knees and bowed to each other. Uemura got on his knees but did not bow his head. Chris Charlton pointed this out on commentary.

The main event of the night saw the IWGP Tag Team Champions defeated by David Finlay & Hiromu Takahashi. Yuto-Ice and OSKAR thought they had the match won when Ice hit a big boot on Takahashi but didn’t realize Finlay had blind tagged in moments earlier. Finlay rolled up an unsuspecting Ice for the three count and two points for his team.

Finlay cut a promo after the match as Takahashi continued to lay unconscious in the middle of the ring after the boot from Ice. Finlay joking interviewed a woozy Takahashi, asking him who his favorite tag partner of all time was and similar questions. Takahashi was not able to muster up much in the way of responses and the show came to a close.

NJPW crowns 2024 World Tag League winner

Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi are the winners of NJPW’s 2024 World Tag League and will face each other at Wrestle Kingdom.

They defeated Gabe Kidd & SANADA in the tournament finals today in Kumamoto. The finish of the match saw Takahashi get a three-count off a pinning combination on SANADA.

Typically, winners of the World Tag League would earn the right to challenge for the IWGP Tag Team titles at Wrestle Kingdom. However, champions HENARE and Great-O-Khan will likely be forced to vacate the belts due to a knee injury suffered by HENARE.

After today’s World Tag League finals, Naito turned to his partner and issued a challenge for them to face each other on January 4 at Wrestle Kingdom. The match was supposed to happen in March 2020 but didn’t due to the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Takahashi accepted the challenge and closed the show by thanking Naito for all that he’s taught him through the years.

Takahashi and Naito took an odd route to get to the finals. After O-Khan and HENARE were forced to withdraw from the tournament, three teams found themselves tied atop the group after the final night of round-robin action. With the teams all tied 1-1 against each other in the round-robin, a triple threat was scheduled immediately, with Takahashi and Naito defeating House of Torture and Oleg Boltin & Toru Yano to advance to the finals.

First team advances to NJPW World Tag League finals

One half of the NJPW World Tag League 2024 finals has been sorted out.

Gabe Kidd & SANADA emerged as the A Block winners on Thursday with a victory over Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI, who were looking to win the tournament for a fourth consecutive year. Instead, Kidd & SANADA are heading to the finals for the first time as a team. SANADA is a two-time Tag League winner in 2017-2018 when EVIL was his partner.

Kidd & SANADA ended A Block action with a 5-2 record and 10 points. That was good for sole possession of first place at the top of the block.

The B Block winners will be determined on Friday with the finals then taking place this Sunday (December 8). Entering the last day of B Block matches, Great-O-Khan & HENARE, Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi, and Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin are still alive with a chance to win. O-Khan & HENARE vs. Naito & Hiromu is happening on Friday and will likely decide the block winners, though Yano & Boltin could still force a three-way tie if they win their match against Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls and Naito & Hiromu defeat O-Khan & HENARE.

O-Khan & Henare are the current IWGP Tag Team Champions. The Tag League winners — if it’s not them — will be in line for a shot at the belts.

NJPW World Tag League night 12 results, updated standings

Three teams are still alive in the B Block of NJPW World Tag League 2024.

Following the second-to-last night of block action, Great-O-Khan & HENARE, Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi, and Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin still have a shot to make the finals. The main event of today’s show saw Naito & Hiromu eliminate EVIL & Ren Narita from contention. Here are the quick results:

– B Block match: Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi defeated EVIL & Ren Narita

– B Block match: Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi & Jado

– Gabe Kidd, SANADA & Gedo defeated Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI & Shoma Kato

– KENTA & Chase Owens defeated Alex Zayne & Katsuya Murashima

The final B Block show takes place this Friday. The winner of Great-O-Khan & Henare vs. Naito & Hiromu will likely advance to the finals, though Yano & Boltin could still force a three-way tie. They need to win their match against Haste & Nicholls and have Naito & Hiromu defeat Great-O-Khan & Henare.

A Block will be decided with its last night taking place this Thursday. Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI, Shingo Takagi & Yota Tsuji, and Gabe Kidd & SANADA are still in contention to win the block.

The tournament finals are being held on Sunday (December 8).
