NJPW World Tag League 2024 finals set

An unexpected three-way tie had to be sorted out on the last day of B Block action, but the 2024 World Tag League finals are now set.

Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi are heading to the Tag League finals as the B Block representatives. It will be Naito & Hiromu vs. Gabe Kidd & SANADA this Sunday (December 8) to determine the tournament winners.

An injury to HENARE shook up NJPW’s plans for the last day of B Block matches, forcing Great-O-Khan & HENARE to withdraw from the tournament. They were scheduled to face Naito & Hiromu in a match that likely would have decided which team advanced to the finals. Instead, Naito & Hiromu won by forfeit and worked a non-tournament match today. Toru Yano & Oleg Boltin and EVIL & Ren Narita both won their matches later in the show, leading to a tie at the top of the block with three teams having 5-2 records and 10 points.

There was no clear tiebreaker advantage for any of the teams, so an immediate play-in match took place. Naito & Hiromu defeated Yano & Boltin and EVIL & Narita to advance.

The Tag League winners are set to be in line for an IWGP Tag Team title shot, but the status of those belts is in question right now. Great-O-Khan said today that he and HENARE will likely have to vacate the titles due to HENARE’s knee injury, and their scheduled defense against The Young Bucks at Wrestle Dynasty also likely will not happen.

NJPW World Tag League night eleven results, updated standings

The 2024 NJPW World Tag League continued on Monday with a show in Kochi.

Three teams are tied atop A Block with just one night left in round-robin action. Of the tied teams, only Bishamon control their own destiny. They advance to the tournament finals if they defeat the War Dogs in their final round-robin on Thursday. If the War Dogs win that match, they need Yota Tsuji & Shingo Takagi to lose to Shota Umino and Tomoaki Honma. If the War Dogs and Takagi & Tsuji win their final matches, Takagi & Tsuji advance.

Umino was back in action on the show after missing a non-tournament match on Sunday due to an ankle injury. However, KENTA and Owens attacked him and Honma during their ring entrance. Owens then hit Umino in the ankle with a chairshot. After that, Homma got little help from his partner and was double-teamed by Owens and KENTA before Owens eventually pinned him with a package piledriver. So, Umino returned, but he didn’t do much.

Gabe Kidd & SANADA beat Alex Zayne & Ryusuke Taguchi in today’s second tournament match, mathematically eliminating the Funky Sauce team from advancing.

Bishamon picked up a big win in the semi-main event on their quest to win a fourth consecutive tournament. They defeated Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman, dropping their record to 3-3 and mathematically eliminating them from competition.

By the time the main event hit the ring, Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa had been mathematically eliminated. Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji needed a win to stay in the hunt and that’s exactly what they got when Tsuji pinned Oiwa after a Pumping Blaster.

A Block action concludes on Thursday.
