WWE Main Event results: Natalya vs. Sarah Logan

The Big Takeaway: Sarah Logan has new ring gear and face paint, but it didn’t help her as she submitted to Natalya’s Sharpshooter. No Way Jose grabbed a rare win against Eric Young, with Young now winless in singles action since July.

Vic Joseph and Byron Saxton were on announcing duties again this week and still no mention of Mickie James or Dio Maddin.

**********

Natalya defeated Sarah Logan (5:13)

Natalya is a perfect example of a wrestler who just works wherever she is needed. Two weeks ago, she was on Raw facing off against Asuka, while last Sunday she was in the Survivor Series five-on-five-on-five women’s triple threat elimination tag match.

Here she was up against Sarah Logan, a member of the women’s roster who — apart from that appearance at Survivor Series — has become a regular on Main Event with little going on right now.

The pair worked perfectly well together in this one, with Natalya allowing Logan plenty of offense and leading her through five minutes of good back and forth.

The finish was fairly pedestrian. Logan attempted a double knee strike in the corner, but Natalya had it scouted and rolled Logan up for a near fall. Natalya sent Logan into the post and — as she sold it — Natalya locked in the Sharpshooter for the win.

No Way Jose defeated Eric Young (6:36)

Another week, another defeat for former SAnitY member Eric Young. And against of all people, perennial Main Event jobber No Way Jose.

You have to go back as far as July to find Young in a singles match where he came out on top and — despite sporadic tag team team victories — he finds himself right at the bottom of a stacked roster with no real direction.

No Way Jose matches are never much to shout about and Young looked streets ahead of Jose in terms of in-ring quality. When he gets going, he moves around with such speed and dominance.

The finish came after a commercial break. Young came off the top turnbuckle for a dive, but Jose dodged it and Young landed on his feet. Jose then hit the pop-up punch for the win.

WWE Main Event results: Cedric Alexander vs. Eric Young

The Big Takeaway: Mojo Rawley squashed a local in the opener. Cedric Alexander and Eric Young had a fine back and forth at the end of the show, with Alexander taking the spoils in the end.

The announce team has been really changeable for weeks now. This week it was Vic Joseph and Byron Saxton, with no mention of Mickie James. We are to assume that Dio Maddin is still selling the beating he took from Brock Lesnar on Raw two weeks ago.

**********

Mojo Rawley defeated Boston Bob (3:27)

Well, this was new. They stuck Mojo Rawley out for a squash match against a local jobber. You have to question why, when the roster is so huge, but it was okay while it lasted. And, actually, it lasted a little too long.

“Boston Bob” was already in the ring, and since they were in Boston this week, that was the joke. But he did have his own merch, which is more than Rawley can boast. Saxton noted “I know that guy! He stole the last egg roll in catering!”

Why it took over three minutes for Rawley to win this, I don’t know. He looked disgusted throughout and the crowd quickly lost interest. After lots of posturing and beating Bob down, he finally ended things with an Alabama Slam.

Cedric Alexander defeated Eric Young (8:32)

This was vastly superior and went through a commercial break to build to some false finishes and near falls. Cedric Alexander was the star here and this gave him a much needed win — his first since early October.

It’s interesting that out of all of SAnitY, Eric Young has come off the worst. He has jobbed around as a singles wrestler and in random tag team combinations for weeks on this show. It’s clear that they have nothing for him, but he is also portraying a non-entity of a character right now.

Both men were all beat up and had little left in the tank when we came out of the commercial break. Young nailed Alexander with a DDT and then went up to the top rope to hit a beautiful elbow drop. It looked all over — but Alexander kicked out and at that point you could tell that the crowd were invested.

Young yelled at Alexander and then slid off the apron under Alexander’s legs. Alexander ducked his clothesline attempt and hit the Lumbar Check for the win.

This was a good little match in the end and one of the better matches we’ve had on this show in a while.

WWE Main Event results: Sarah Logan vs. Dana Brooke

The Big Takeaway: Mojo Rawley grabbed a rare win against Zack Ryder in the opener, while Sarah Logan bested Dana Brooke in what will likely be their last Main Event match for a while.

The commentary team now seems set, with Dio Maddin and Mickie James joining lead announcer Byron Saxton.

**********

Mojo Rawley defeated Zack Ryder (5:09)

Ryder joked with Curt Hawkins on Twitter this past week, as they continued to find themselves undrafted and unconsidered by the WWE writing staff. After night two they, like Rawley, were re-drafted to Raw in the supplementary picks.

There was no sign of Hawkins at Ryder’s side this week, but the indication was that they were drafted as a pair.

The bout was a usual Rawley match: he bullied and dominated Ryder until Ryder got the shine by reversing a suplex into a neckbreaker. Ryder hit the flying forearm and Broski Boot, but Rawley kicked out.

It took two attempts and some more near falls before Rawley won with the Alabama slam, but this turned out okay in the end.

Sarah Logan defeated Dana Brooke (5:05)

Just like on the men’s roster, there is nothing like the draft to remind you of your place in the pecking order. And in the women’s division, Sarah Logan and Dana Brooke are clearly right down near the bottom.

These two have had quite a run of bouts on Main Event, stemming from their match a few months ago when Brooke was busted open and the match had to be stopped. For those keeping count, their series is tied at 4-4 after this match.

But with Brooke being drafted to SmackDown and Logan staying put on Raw, this will likely be their last contest for a while. And of all of them, this was probably the pick of the bunch.

The whole match was a total back and forth and it was never clear who would win. But after Logan threw Brooke off the top turnbuckle, she was able to turn her over and lock in a cloverleaf for the win. There’s been some considerable in-ring improvement for both of these performers.

WWE Main Event results: Cesaro in action, Mickie James on commentary

The Big Takeaway: Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater notched up a win against Mojo Rawley & Eric Young that was largely terrible. Cesaro then stood out like a sore thumb as he won against Zack Ryder.

Mickie James (who has been out of action since tearing her ACL in June) and Dio Maddin joined Vic Joseph on the commentary team this week. The soundtrack to the show was very clunky at times, but Joseph is certainly preferable to Byron Saxton as the lead announcer.

Starting on Monday, Joseph, Maddin & Jerry “The King” Lawler will be the announce team for Raw.

**********

Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater defeated Mojo Rawley & Eric Young (2:53)

Well, this was one to forget for a number of reasons.

For one, the announcing was random. Mickie James called Rawley “Mojo Riley” and Vic Joseph noted that Heath Slater could “throw hands with the best of them.” They discussed “dad bods” and Dio Maddin said that Rawley had been a “real success” as a singles star.

The match was about as good as you’d expect: sub-three minutes of heels beating down Slater and then O’Neil getting some slovenly shine.

The finish, though, was incredibly sloppy. Young came off the top rope and landed on his feet. O’Neil tried to make it look like he had caught him in mid-air and then they both fell down as if he’d hit the Clash of the Titus. This was virtually blooper-reel stuff at the end.

Cesaro defeated Zack Ryder (w/ Curt Hawkins) (6:48)

Life after The Bar has largely been difficult for Cesaro. He has a new entrance with new music, neither of which make him look like a star. For a guy who has such little wasted movement in the ring, he’s being absolutely underutilized.

Cesaro played the heel here, showing off how he is arguably pound-for-pound the strongest performer on the Raw roster. He did some faux-sportsmanship, shaking Ryder’s hand and then kicking him in the midriff at the second time of asking.

There were far too many choral “ooh”s from the three on commentary with every other strike. Given the number of European uppercuts and forearm smashes, it became irritating to say the least.

In the end, the match was fine. Ryder hit the Broski Boot — but Cesaro kicked out and rolled under the ropes. They brawled outside and then went back inside for a series of near falls before Cesaro used the Neutralizer for the win.

WWE Main Event results: Lucha House Party vs. EC3 & Eric Young

The Big Takeaway: After doing something different last week, this was a dull show with two meager matches. Mojo Rawley defeated No Way Jose and Gran Metalik & Kalisto saw off EC3 & Eric Young in under two minutes.

Dio Maddin was on the announce team this week alongside Bryon Saxton and Renee Young.

*********

Mojo Rawley defeated No Way Jose (4:44)

Rawley’s look is absurd at the moment. He has a few lines of blue face paint across his face that look like they were applied at a kids’ party. He also looks like he’s carried an injury at some point in the last few months and is still getting back into ring shape.

For a guy with Rawley’s physical presence and intensity, it feels that it’s already time to hit the reset button on a character that they gave some vignettes and hype to but then quickly gave up on.

They’ve done this match several times before on Main Event and it doesn’t get any more exciting the sixth time around. It’s your basic back and forth and offers nothing creative or new.

After Jose tried to roll Rawley up with a schoolboy, Rawley kicked out and caught the charge of Jose. He planted Jose with an Alabama slam and got the victory.

The Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik & Kalisto w/ Lince Dorado) defeated EC3 & Eric Young (1:54)

Speaking of guys that they’re not doing enough with right now, EC3 and Eric Young have to be right up at the top of that list. And with new opportunities to appear on live television each week and on new networks that can reach new audiences, if I were them, I’d be making a fuss.

As the runtime suggests, they went at this at 100 mph, with Metalik and Kalisto getting all their stuff in as best they could. They teamed up on EC3 and Young with flips and dives and then did stereo suicide dives to the outside.

After a commercial break, Metalik flipped over the top rope to take out EC3, and Kalisto countered Young’s attempt to finish him off, nailing him with the Salida del Sol for the win.

WWE Main Event results: IIconics in action, 24/7 title segment

The Big Takeaway —

With the show taped before Raw at Madison Square Garden, it had a different feel this week. The IIconics returned to Main Event to quickly see off the team of Sarah Logan & Dana Brooke, while Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter, who had been billed as a mystery guest, won and then lost the 24/7 Championship to R-Truth.

**********

The IIconics defeated Sarah Logan & Dana Brooke (2:24)

The IIconics haven’t been on Main Event since back in April. They came out and cut a pre-match promo, claiming that Logan and Brooke had no chance to make a name for themselves against them. The fans weren’t much into it at all.

Logan and Brooke have been feuding for months on this show, including the match that had to be stopped due to Brooke suffering a facial injury. But here they teamed up with zero explanation for the viewer. And while they were good together, it was a short-lived deal.

After some brief back and forth, Kay nailed Brooke from behind so that Royce could pick her up and put her in the wheelbarrow position. Kay then used a punt kick to the head and covered Brooke for the win.

Enes Kanter, R-Truth WWE 24/7 title segment

It was only a matter of time before the 24/7 title became a part of this show. The wrestlers who swap it each week have about the same status as the talent who wrestle on Main Event. But its position on the show took away an opportunity for some talent to have an actual match.

They had announced a mystery guest before the break and we returned to Charly Caruso in the ring. She introduced Enes Kanter, who received a very mixed reaction given that he’s currently a Boston Celtic.

Before he could speak, R-Truth came out holding his title. He skipped, danced, and hugged Kanter. As he was talking about how they were friends, Kanter face-palmed Truth, quickly covered him, and a ref dived in to count the pin.

Kanter posed with the title, unzipping his tracksuit top to reveal his Celtics jersey. But before long, Truth rolled him up from behind and regained the title.

Before Kanter could do much about it, Truth was off and running because Drake Maverick, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, No Way Jose, and others were chasing him off into the crowd.

It was nice to see something different on Main Event. But given that it was their return to MSG, I’d think this is more of a one-off than a sign of things to come.

WWE Main Event results: Lacey Evans vs. Dana Brooke

The Big Takeaway: Lacey Evans saw off Dana Brooke in the opener for her third win in a row against Brooke. The team of Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater then defeated Mojo Rawley & Eric Young, leaving Rawley without any kind of a win since May.

**********

Lacey Evans defeated Dana Brooke (6:00)

Evans and Brooke have had a good little program on Main Event through July and August, with Evans going 3-0 against Brooke. Both Evans and Brooke are certainly improving, but both would benefit from working with stronger opponents.

Of the two, Evans is getting the more even hand. She has been able to work with Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Natalya over the last few weeks, while Brooke has been left to take on Sarah Logan, Nikki Cross, and Ruby Riott.

The match was pretty good, with lots of back and forth, but they did quite a neat finish that let Evans heel her way to the win.

Brooke was looking to lock in a submission hold and dragged her by the leg across the ring. Evans clung on to the apron, which the referee had to pay attention to. While his back was turned, Evans gouged Brooke’s eyes and then landed The Women’s Right for the win. Brooke was left looking completely bereft.

Titus O’Neil & Heath Slater defeated Mojo Rawley & Eric Young (3:28)

Rawley’s WWE career continues to stutter. He debuted a new look back in April, sporting face paint and new ring gear after a series of vignettes were aired on Raw. From there he had a run of matches on Main Event. His last televised appearance was at Super ShowDown back in June.

Here, Rawley was wearing more of the blue-lined face paint and looked a little heavier than in previous months. He didn’t work much in the match and only tagged in for O’Neil’s heat segment, which culminated in him taking a clothesline over the top rope.

Eric Young looked very good, doing a flip over the top turnbuckle and a baseball slide under the ropes in quick succession just before the end. Young took the Clash of the Titus from O’Neil at the end for the pinfall.

Ultimately, this was pretty much what you’d expect from this match with these kind of time constraints.

WWE Main Event results: Cesaro & EC3 vs. Ryder & Hawkins

The Big Takeaway: Lacey Evans saw off Dana Brooke in the opener. The team of Cesaro & EC3 then defeated Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins to leave the latter without a televised win since May.

**********

Lacey Evans defeated Dana Brooke (5:09)

Evans and Brooke faced off against each other on Main Event two weeks back with the result going in the same direction. This was probably a better match all told, with the ending putting Evans over strong.

Evans spent much of the match working over Brooke’s left arm, but Evans does look to have improved in recent weeks. They did a spot where she mimicked Brooke’s one-handed press-ups, but this was otherwise quite a slow, formulaic match.

The ending looked good, with Evans using a sleeper hold, taking Brooke up to the second rope. When she then released Brooke, Brooke lay prone and Evans waited for her to get to her feet. Evans then came off the top with the Women’s Right for the win.

Cesaro & EC3 defeated Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins (3:53)

EC3 and Cesaro tagged together in six-man tag action back in June when they teamed up with Robert Roode. They defeated the Lucha House Party then and looked strong again here.

For Ryder and Hawkins, things seem to have returned to normalcy. They are without a televised win as a team since May and are being used more on this show than they are on Raw, where their appearances have been sporadic since they lost the Tag Team titles in June.

Cesaro looked so smooth and comfortable throughout and Hawkins and Ryder both had spots where they impressed. Hawkins came off the top rope to nail EC3 and Cesaro on the outside and Ryder did a tope on them both before the finish.

It was an all-action finish, though, after they had all hit their finishing moves. Cesaro pinned Ryder with the Neutralizer to give these two their first tag team win together.

WWE Main Event results: Robert Roode vs. Heath Slater

The Big Takeaway: Natalya managed to scoop slam Tamina in a good back-and-forth match in the opener, then Robert Roode took a ton of near falls from Heath Slater before finishing him off with the Glorious DDT in the main event.

**********

Sam Roberts was back this week to make it a three-person announce team. They have flirted with this idea over the last few months and must be keen to make it work. It’s already a weak team with Byron Saxton and Renee Young, and adding a third doesn’t help.

Natalya defeated Tamina (6:25)

With no Sarah Logan and Dana Brooke match this week, it was Natalya and Tamina’s turn to put on a good show. And they did a good job with what they had.

Natalya spent the match trying to break down the difference in size between her and Tamina and got nailed outside with a superkick when she had tried to baseball slide Tamina to gain some advantage.

In the last couple of minutes, they played up that Tamina couldn’t be slammed by Natalya and she kept trying but her back would give out. This was all very Lex Luger vs. Yokozuna, but clearly on a much smaller scale.

Eventually, though, Natalya managed to hit a sit-out slam that got her the victory. It was a good way to make this matchup more interesting than it otherwise would have been.

Robert Roode defeated Heath Slater (2:46)

In what was his fourth straight week on Main Event, Roode had to do his best to make a matchup with Slater look interesting. Roode, who is in tremendous shape, seemed to have fun with Slater, who can’t help but make you smile.

Slater is using a “dad bod” gimmick where he doesn’t take his sleeveless T-shirt off because otherwise we’d see his dad bod. What a way to bury a guy who is already six-feet under.

Surprisingly, Slater did, however, take most of the match. He tried everything to finish Roode off, including a high running knee, a top rope diving forearm smash, and a neckbreaker. They did near fall after near fall in the last minute until Roode snatched the win.

Roode dodged the charge of Slater, kicked him in the midriff, and then nailed him with the Glorious DDT to make it four wins on the trot for Roode on Main Event. You have to think, though, that surely there’s room on Raw for Roode?

WWE Main Event results: Brooke & Logan’s feud continues

The Big Takeaway: A better show this week. Sarah Logan got her win back against Dana Brooke as the pair had their third match in as many weeks. Robert Roode stole a win against Cedric Alexander when he used the ropes to gain the advantage.

**********

Sarah Logan defeated Dana Brooke (5:45)

They ran the tape from two weeks ago and referenced Brooke’s nasty facial injury, then showed us how Brooke had gotten her revenge on last week’s show. This kind of continuity is entirely rare for Main Event.

The match wasn’t quite as good as last week’s but was still full of decent work. Logan took the lead and has quite an array of moves in her locker. Her submission holds throughout and an impressive gutwrench suplex later on showed off her skill set.

Brooke was plucky throughout, trying to get an advantage whenever she could, but ultimately Logan had her beat. Just as they did last week, they did another spot where Brooke took a nasty looking turnbuckle bump, playing up that Logan was a threat.

Logan normally uses the Kentucky Knee, but here she finished Brooke with a flying knee to the back as Brooke was kneeling down. Presumably, this feud must continue.

Robert Roode defeated Cedric Alexander (5:36)

Roode and Alexander have also had a few matches together over the last few weeks on Main Event. They work well together, but are being utterly wasted on this show, particularly in Roode’s case.

Alexander did a tope through the ropes and looked like he had Roode beaten until he got caught with a spinebuster. Roode went for the Glorious DDT, but Alexander countered with a springboard enzuigiri.

As Alexander was about set up for the frog splash, he couldn’t get Roode down, so he slid under the ropes through Roode’s legs. Roode caught him and sat down, using the middle rope for leverage, stealing the win. He made out of there like a bandit.

Roode has won two straight now against Alexander, but Alexander would probably benefit from a rebrand and a new gimmick. His in-ring work is strong, but he essentially just comes out smiling and sticks his thumb up. Main Event would be an easy place for them to experiment with him.

WWE Main Event results: Dana Brooke gets her revenge

The Big Takeaway: Dana Brooke defeated Sarah Logan in a rematch from last week where Brooke had suffered a nasty facial injury. The main event saw the random team of EC3, Cesaro & Robert Roode see off the Lucha House Party in under three minutes.

**********

Dana Brooke defeated Sarah Logan (6:13)

Whether this show will reap any of the benefits of Paul Heyman becoming executive director on the Raw side of things remains to be seen.

The fact WWE acknowledged last week at all here is certainly a positive. Quite rightly, they did a rematch and made a much better go of it. Brooke was smiling and fired up throughout and they kept doing spots where she would get her face bashed.

The finish saw Logan with Brooke on the apron again. She went for the running knee that caused the stoppage from last week, but Brooke had it scouted. Brooke countered and then landed a Swanton Bomb from the top rope for the win.

Cesaro, EC3 & Robert Roode defeated The Lucha House Party (Kalisto, Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik) (2:40)

This, however, was a negative. If this show does see any changes, it would certainly benefit if they didn’t throw together arbitrary tag matches where the entrance times out-strip the running time of the match.

The first minute was EC3 getting dominated by the pace and tenacity of the Lucha House Party — before the ring filled and the LHP cleared it, posing in unison. And then we went to a break. Yes, a commercial break, in a three-minute match.

I can also confirm that wrestling took place during the commercials.

The last minute was everyone hitting their finishers but failing to get the pinfall. The finish was Cesaro hitting a European uppercut on Metalik as he came off the top rope. As usual, the timing looked fantastic.

WWE Main Event results: Match stopped due to Dana Brooke injury

The Big Takeaway: Dana Brooke got busted open when she was kneed and posted on the apron by Sarah Logan. Robert Roode made his first appearance on Main Event since November, defeating Cedric Alexander in a good match at the end of the show.

**********

Sarah Logan defeated Dana Brooke (4:03)

So, as most people will know, this match had a lot of publicity this week because it caused Brooke’s facial injury. The spot that caused Brooke to be busted open came about two minutes into the match after they had done some fairly solid back and forth.

Both of these performers have improved of late, but what led to Brooke being completely bloodied was partly because the spot was ill-conceived and partly because of a few mitigating factors.

Logan had Brooke in a chinlock at the ropes and the referee called for a break, so Brooke went out on to the apron under the ropes. Logan followed Brooke and kneed her in the face, which caused Brooke to turn around and take a posting.

From seeing the tape back, it was a combination of two things that meant that the spot went wrong: the force of the knee and the proximity of Brooke to the post. It was clear that Brooke had underestimated how close she was to the post.

Logan sat on the ropes, not entirely sure how to react as the ref dealt with the blood.

They threw up the “X” and raised Logan’s hand, but she couldn’t hide her concern for Brooke. Logan then swaggered out of the ring and back up the ramp.

Robert Roode defeated Cedric Alexander (6:50)

Roode hasn’t been on Main Event since the back end of last year when he and Chad Gable were tagging together. He looked in tremendous shape as he defeated Alexander here.

In contrast to the opening match, this was a good, solid wrestling match between two strong performers. Their different styles worked well together and, although it’s a crime that Roode is on this show at all, they put on a good match.

Alexander took a ton of the offense throughout. He flipped around and grounded Roode down, getting close to winning on several occasions. It was only in the last minute that Roode was able to turn things around.

Roode caught the charging Alexander and nailed him with a spinebuster for two. Then Alexander came back. He blocked Roode’s DDT attempts, but Roode knocked him off the top rope and was able to hit the Glorious DDT for the win.

WWE Main Event results: EC3 wins, Sarah Logan makes her show debut

The Big Takeaway: EC3 won this week, beating No Way Jose in a fairly dull match. Sarah Logan then made her Main Event debut, losing in a solid — but short — tag team bout with Tamina against Dana Brooke & Natalya.

**********

EC3 defeated No Way Jose (5:30)

No Way Jose was still sporting his new look. EC3 made a deal of telling the conga line to get lost before the match while he swaggered into the ring.

EC3 grabbed a rare win here. The match was really nothing much to speak of. Jose lacks that sleekness that the more accomplished workers have on the main roster and they were kind of clunky in the last few minutes.

Jose went up to the top rope but was toppled by EC3, who then put him on his shoulders. He hit Jose with a neckbreaker before finishing him with the One Percenter.

EC3 and Jose were both entrants into the battle royal on Friday at Super ShowDown, but this win for EC3 broke up a streak of five straight losses.

Dana Brooke & Natalya defeated Sarah Logan & Tamina (3:16)

It was back in late January that Sarah Logan last got a win — and it was against the same team of Dana Brooke & Natalya that defeated her here. That night, she had tagged with Liv Morgan and things looked very different for Logan.

Logan last appeared on The Shield’s Final Chapter in April and has largely been a bit-part player this year. But she was good here and worked well together with Natalya when they got a little ring time. Brooke also looked to have really improved.

Brooke and Natalya cut the ring in half working over Logan. They hit stereo baseball slides on her on the outside before we went to a break. Logan had Natalya in a modified Calf Crusher when we returned and then they filled the ring.

Natalya took out Logan with a discuss clothesline and then they set up Tamina for their finisher, which was Brooke coming off Natalya’s shoulders with a beautiful swanton. This was pretty decent, but then when Natalya is involved, it often is.

WWE Main Event results: Ryder & Hawkins vs. Gallows & Anderson

The Big Takeaway: Two regular matches this week — one that was too long and one that was too short. EC3 lost again in a rematch against Cedric Alexander from last week. In the main event of the show, Raw Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins had a fun-while-it-lasted non-title bout, seeing off Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson.

**********

Byron Saxton and Renee Young were back as a two-person announce team this week. Saxton has done a remarkable job at merging his voice to sound just like every other generic WWE announcer.

Cedric Alexander defeated EC3 (5:46)

Well, he lost again. EC3’s apathy is certainly apparent these days if you check out his Twitter. From a gif of him raising a red cup and an eyebrow from Raw to a picture of an out-of-shape-looking, pot-bellied Chris Hemsworth from Thor, EC3’s posts seem to say it all.

If you saw their match last week on Main Event, it was pretty much the same as this one. They did a big spot where EC3 hit a superplex on Alexander, but otherwise they would have benefited from going home earlier and giving more time to the tag match.

The finish was much the same as last week, too. EC3 went to set up for the One Percenter, but Alexander flipped out of it and then hit the Lumbar Check for the win. EC3 sold it like it killed his back and Alexander leaped on him for the pin.

Raw Tag Team Champions Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins defeated Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson in a non-title match (3:47)

This was very entertaining for what it was. All four of these men are very good at what they do, with Hawkins the standout here. Why it had to run at under four minutes and why it has to be relegated to Main Event is up there with asking why they called up EC3 and why he keeps losing.

There were a few looks and little wry smiles in this match that showed that these two teams probably get on pretty well on the road. Hawkins and Ryder are extremely smooth together — and for Gallows and Anderson much of this is now like muscle memory.

They went back and forth until the ring filled and Ryder was able to take out Anderson. Hawkins gave Anderson a sweet-looking Pele kick to stagger him so that they could set up the Long Island Express for the win.

WWE Main Event results: Cedric Alexander vs. EC3

The Big Takeaway: Standard fare this week on Main Event. Natalya carried Tamina to a decent match as Natalya won in the opener, then Cedric Alexander beat EC3 as the pair slugged it out in an enjoyable main event.

**********

Sam Roberts returned to make it a three-man announce booth alongside Byron Saxton and Renee Young this week. Commentary on Main Event has been in a state of flux for the last few months, with no permanent replacement for Corey Graves in place yet.

Natalya defeated Tamina (5:48)

This was a tough week for the extended Hart family. Last Saturday marked 17 years since the passing of Davey Boy Smith, while this Thursday was 20 years since Owen Hart’s death. Seeing Natalya get a win here — even if it was on Main Event — was a nice touch.

This was Natalya’s first appearance on this show since she submitted Lacey Evans back in February, while Tamina has had to accept a few appearances on Main Event over the last few months. Her WWE career continues to stutter.

Tamina got a lot of offense in as they essentially took the match 50-50 here. After lots of rest holds, Tamina went to put Natalya on her shoulders, but was caught up in a small package. It literally looked like Natalya just rolled off her rather than Tamina actually kicking out.

Natalya then locked in the Sharpshooter and Tamina immediately tapped.

Cedric Alexander defeated EC3 (7:23)

Like a lot of people, I’m not entirely sure what they’re doing with EC3. Moving him up to the main roster has resulted in him being underused and, to some extent, misused. The argument for cutting their losses and moving him back to NXT is strong at this point.

EC3 lost here to Cedric Alexander. The pair then went on to be involved in the 24/7 Championship fiasco on Raw after Main Event was recorded, with both men losing.

Much like the opening bout, this was very much a back-and-forth, 50-50 contest. It looked like EC3 had it when he hit a fireman’s carry cutter followed by what he used to call the Ethan Carter Driver on Impact. Alexander kicked out by the skin of his teeth.

EC3 went for the One Percenter, but Alexander quickly reversed it into the Lumbar Check. Alexander didn’t quite connect perfectly with the move, so it looked a little unwieldy, but it was enough to bag the win for him after a pretty decent match.
