********************************

It’s week 2 of Rey De Reyes and someone’s getting their shiny sword! That someone is Verde Americano who won the Rey de Reyes final 4-way match last week, defeating Santos Escobar, La Parka and OG Americano. Tonight, he is presented his well-earned sword from Penta and he can keep his AAA Mega Title shot in his back pocket.

Six-Person Tag Team Match: Rey Fenix, Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice vs. La Hiedra & Money Machine (Colmillo De Plata and Garra De Oro)

Last week to kick off Rey De Reyes, Fenix joined his brother Penta in the ring to tease an inevitable return of the Lucha Brothers. That had nothing to do with this match, but it was a really good segment. Vice and Iguana are the current AAA Mixed Tag Champions, but have yet to make a little belt for La Yesca, which is frankly, long overdue.

Breaking news off the top from JBL who was told by Pimpi that Vice and Iguana are actually a couple! Or thruple if you include La Yesca. More on this as it develops, or at least sheds it’s skin.

The bell rang and Fenix started off against Oro with a lockup. Oro grabbed a wristlock and twisted Fenix around. Fenix sent Oro off the ropes and nailed him with a dropkick. Iguana tagged in, but so did Hiedra, which brought in Vice who shoved her out of the ring.

Iguana stayed legal and Plata ate some of his right hands before Iguana pulled him down in an arm drag. Oro tried to help, but Igunan sent him packing before spiking Plata with an Iguanarana. But then, Oro took La Yesca and gave her to Hiedra.

That opened Iguana up for a double team from Money Machine, with Oro hitting a high crossbody. Fenix came in to help, but Money Machine hit him with a high/low. Plata tagged in and they beat up La Yesca for a minute. Iguana picked up his puppet and took them both down with tornado DDTs.

Vice tagged in and threw her talented feet at Hiedra, backing her into the corner. She handed a couple of viciousl hip-checks before Hiedra bailed out of the ring. Vice took out Oro on the outside, but that let Hiedra get the drop on her and drag her back into the ring for a cutter.

Hiedra threw a couple of hip checks of her own before dragging Vice to the center of the ring by the hair. Hiedra slapped Iguana in the corner, which gave Vice an opening to roll her up for two. They shot off the ropes and collided in the ring before crawling over to get tags to Oro and Fenix.

Fenix ran roughshod over Oro and Plata, kicking Plata and armdragging Oro simultaneously. Fenix kicked Plata out of the ring, then hoisted Oro up on the turnbuckle for an inverted Spanish Fly. Oro kicked out of the cover at two though.

Fenix didn’t slow down as Iguana caught a blind tag. Fenix hit a tornado dive on Plata on the outside while Iguana went for a cover on Oro. Hiedra broke up the count though and Fenix brought La Yesca to Iguana so he could dive on Plata on the outside.

Fenix got Oro up in a Fenix Driver and that was it. 1-2-3 and Fenix got the win for his team.

Match Result: Rey Fenix, Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice defeated La Hiedra & Money Machine

-Backstage, Chelsea Green cut a promo about how she never lost her half of the AAA Mixed Tag Titles. She demanded to be acknowldeged as the AAA Mixed Tag WOMEN’s Champion. So we will see how that shakes out.

AAA World Tag Team Championship Match: Pagano & Psycho Clown (c) vs. The War Raiders

The AAA Tag Team Championships are on the line as Pagano and Psycho Clown take on the War Raiders who won the chance to face them a few weeks ago. There has been much drama involving missing, injured and possibly murdered Clowns in AAA the last few weeks, so we’ll see if all the Clowns make it out of this.

The fight immediately began with Psycho and Ivar battling on the outisde while Pagano took out Erik in the ring. Ivar joined them and the Raiders went for a double team, but Pagano fought them both off and delivered a double knee to both, sending Ivar outside.

Erik came up swinging and went for a powerbomb. Pagano countered it into an air raid crash though and went up top. Before he could do anything, Ivar knocked him off the turnbuckle. Ivar hit a cannonball on Pagano against the steel steps and then put him back in the ring. Ivar went for a cover, but Pagano kicked out at two.

With Psycho beaten up on the outside, it was 2-on-1 for the Raiders, who tagged in and out wearing down Pagano. Psycho appeared on the corner and reached for a tag, but Erik cut him off with a knee to Pagano. Ivar tagged in and scoop slammed Pagano. Then Erik scoop slammed Ivar ONTO Pagano, but Pagano somehow kicked out at two.

Pagano managed to get a boot to Erik’s face and tagged in Psycho who kicked is way through both Ivar and Eric. He landed a code red on Ivar and dove through the ropes to take out Erik. Psycho then hit a second rope moonsault on Ivar, but only got a two count.

Psycho charged Ivar in the corner, who contered it into a sit down crush. Erik came in with a big knee and whipped Ivar into the corner onto Psycho. They both covered Psycho, but he managed to kick out to everyone’s amazement.

Psycho fought his way to the corner and tagged in Pagano who hit a spingboard dropkick on Erik. He hit a slam, but couldn’t hook the leg and Erik kicked out of the pin. They traded shots in the middle of the ring, hitting each other with everything they had.

Erik managed to get a suplex in but Pagano jumped back up and elbowed him. Pagano threw Erik, who managed to tag in Ivar on the way down. Ivar hit a spin kick and dragged Pagano into position to hit a top rope moonsault. He made the pin, but Psycho broke it up.

Psycho hoisted Ivar up for a Psycho driver, but couldn’t make the cover. Pagano tried to fire him up, but all four men got to their feet in the ring. Psycho peeled his face off (it’s a thing he does) and he and Pagano took out Erik and Ivar with powerslams and knees to the face. Psycho went up top and hit a split-legged moonsault. Pagano followed with a top rope leg drop, but Erik broke up the pin.

Psycho sent Erik out, but Erik grabbed a chair. Psycho turned, but Pagano caught him by accident with an elbow. Pagano apologized, but Psycho was pretty mad. The Raiders took advantage and dropped them from behind.

The ref tried to get control as all four brawled in the ring, but Erik shoved the ref who called for the bell, declaring the match a No Contest.

Match Result: Pagano & Psycho Clown vs. The War Raiders went to a No Contest

After the match, the Raiders grabbed chairs and Psycho and Pagano grabbed Kendo sticks. They fenced with them for a bit as security tried to get control, but all four battled up the ramp.

-The scene switched to Vikingo, Omos and Dorian Roldan backstage. Vikingo was sill really mad about losing to Dominick Mysterio last week and Dorian was talking to his mom on the phone. Afte the call ended, Vikingo confessed that he was still mad about Mini Vikingo messing up his match. Dorian said not to worry about it and that Vikingo should go make a challenge to Penta next week for the WWE Intercontintental Championship at Wrestlemania!

In the ring, Marisella Pena was introduced with her son, Dorian Roldan by Jesus Zuniga. He called Chessman, a participant in the first Rey De Reyes down to the ring.

Chessman brought his sword with him as did the next to arrive, Texano Jr, who won in 2015. Finally, Cibernetico, winner of the 1999 Rey de Reyes came to the ring, but he did not bring his sword with him.

With that, El Verde Americano came down to the ring to collect his prize for winning Rey de Reyes last week. The crowd was absolutely over the moon with him, and Verde even stopped to kiss a baby in the front row.

Verde teared up as he grabbed a mic and thanked the crowd for their support. He acknowledged the legends in the ring with him and gave them their flowers. He then thanked Marisella and the Pena family and said that it’s an honor to represent AAA.

Lastly, he thanked the crowd again for their support and for accepting him. Verde began to cry as he said that there was one more thing: The pride of Mexico isn’t about the color of your skin, it’s about the culture and the people who are from all over the world.

Suddenly, AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio appeared. Mysterio walked to the ring as everyone except Verda left the ring. Mysterio shook Verde’s hand to everyone’s surprise and said that he wanted to congratulate Verde for winning Rey De Reys. He then asked if he wanted to take his shot at the AAA Mega Title right now.

Verde lunged at Mysterio, which opened him up to an attack from behind by the OG Americano! Mysterio slinked back up the ramp while OG beat up Verde all around the ring.

“Well, that sucks.” – Rey Mysterio, Jr on commentary.

OG tried to peel the mask off of Verde, but Rayo and Bravo Americano ran down to the ring to fight him off. OG got back into the ring and took Verde’s sword, posing with it atop the announce table as the show came to an end.

Show Recap —

There was a long SummerSlam recap video.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett are the new Raw announce team.

Opening segment

Cody Rhodes kicked off the show and received a big reaction. Rhodes spoke about Minnesota’s own Brock Lesnar. Rhodes has had the privilege, honour and misery of standing across from the Beast and — surviving him. He couldn’t have imagined what happened next. He showed a picture of Lesnar shaking his hand.

Rhodes spoke to his mother this morning and he shared his shock over the moment. She said, “Dummy, don’t you know what just happened? Brock Lesnar just acknowledged you.” Rhodes felt on top of the world after SummerSlam and felt like he could beat anybody.

Seth Rollins interrupted. He welcomed us to Monday Night Rollins (while staring at Rhodes, who smiled back). Rollins said he came out a while back to address the future of the world title and Rhodes was the first to enter, so Rollins wanted to return the favour. Rollins said if Rhodes felt like he could beat anyone, they just put that feeling to the test.

Judgment Day, minus Finn Bálor, interrupted. Damian Priest said Rollins and Rhodes must be confused if they thought that they ran Raw. Rhea Ripley said Judgment Day ran Raw. Priest said they decide what happens with champions and he held up his briefcase.

Priest said Ripley was already the most dominant world champion (she was cheered) and they had the NXT North American Champion in Dominik Mysterio (he was booed). Priest told Rhodes that Dom wasn’t done with him.

Before Rhodes could respond, Bálor jumped Rollins from behind and Judgment Day attacked both men.

Sami Zayn ran out to make the save and the good guys cleared the ring.

Rhodes challenged them to a six-man tag match. Rollins didn’t say anything but seemed taken aback by Rhodes making a challenge on his behalf. They argued off-mic as Zayn tried settling them down.

********

Earlier today, Ricochet complained to Adam Pearce about the finish to his match against Logan Paul. Pearce was apologetic but said the referee’s decision was final.

Matt Riddle, Chad Gable, and Tommaso Ciampa entered Pearce’s office. Pearce said they all had reason to be frustrated but they were all on the cusp of greatness. He put them in a match and the winner would get to face Gunther for the Intercontinental title. They each stated they would win before Gable told them to shoosh. Gable said he would win in his neck of the woods tonight.

Fatal four-way match: Chad Gable defeated Tommaso Ciampa, Matt Riddle and Ricochet (10:07)

The crowd chanted for Gable who gave them a big “Thank you!” a minute into the match. Gable and Riddle applied ankle locks to Ricochet and Ciampa respectively until they each escaped the ring. They led to an exchange between Gable and Riddle but Ciampa clonked their heads together. Ricochet hit Ciampa with a lionsault for two.

The four men exchanged moves and they showed a slow-motion replay of Ciampa giving Gable a reverse DDT because Gable’s head bounced right off the mat.

There was a big tower of doom spot that led to Gable bringing down the three other men with a triple-German suplex (Ricochet took a particularly big bump). The crowd popped for that and Gunther looked on in the back in amusement.

Gable put Ciampa in an ankle lock but Riddle nailed him with a knee strike and powerbomb but Ricochet broke up the cover. Riddle suplexed Ricochet before giving Ciampa a superplex. Ricochet and Gable tried moves off the top but both Ciampa and Riddle got their knees up leading to cradles for two counts.

Riddle wiped out Gable with a springboard diving before Ciampa gave Riddle a draping DDT. Gable got knocked down again, this time by a Ricochet dive before Ciampa hit Ricochet with a knee strike and Project Ciampa for two. Riddle gave Ciampa a Bro Derek but Gable broke up the cover with a diving headbutt.

Gable went for a Chaos Theory on Riddle but Ricochet brought Riddle down with a Recoil. Gable tried the Chaos Theory on Ricochet but Ciampa brought Ricochet down with a leg drop. Gable then gave Ciampa the Chaos Theory for the pinfall win. Gable earns a shot against Gunther.

This was a really fun match and the finish was awesome. The crowd was very happy to see Gable win. (The lack of a commercial break was nice, too.)

Gable pulled his young son out from the front row and celebrated with him around ringside. This was all great.

********

There was a recap of Rhodes beating Lesnar and the aftermath. Cole said Lesnar has never shown that sort of respect for his opponent in his fight career.

The six-man match set up in the first segment was made official.

Rollins confronted Rhodes in the back as he was speaking with Zayn. Zayn settled them down and said they have a chance to do something important tonight. Zayn was sick of Judgment Day and they were the reason Kevin Owens was on the shelf and their titles were in jeopardy.

Zayn said they could put Judgment Day away once and for all. Zayn asked if they were cool. Rhodes said yes. Rollins said yes and stormed off. Zayn wasn’t convinced.

********

There was a recap of Roman Reigns beating Jey Uso thanks to Jimmy Uso. Reigns will be on Friday’s Smackdown.

Miz walked through the back toward a planned photoshoot but was told to wait because LA Knight was in the middle of his own photoshoot. Miz was pissed and stormed off.

(The first hour of Raw is apparently commercial free but they’re also killing time with video packages.)

********

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Bronson Reed (11:55)

Nakamura was on offence but Reed ran him over, hit an elbow drop and knocked him out of the ring which led to our first commercial break of the evening (at 8:55 pm).

[SECOND HOUR]

The crowd was quiet but Nakamura’s comeback got them back into it a bit. Reed cut him off with a powerslam and a running sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall. Reed cut him off again moments later with a Death Valley Driver for two. Nakamura tried a kick but Reed dropped him with a clothesline.

Reed went for Tsunami but Nakamura moved and hit Kinshasa to the back of the head and another to the face for the pinfall win. The crowd was happy that the good guy won. (Nakamura also beat Reed a few months back in a Money in the Bank qualifier.)

********

Medical staff told Pearce that Raquel Rodriguez’s injury was serious and she couldn’t be cleared yet. Pearce relayed the message to a disappointed Rodriguez. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell tried comforting her and said she needed to be 100% to face Ripley.

********

Ludwig Kaiser approached Maxxine Dupri in the locker room. Kaiser congratulated her on Gable’s win and said Gunther was looking forward to wiping the ring with his body. Dupri told him to get out of their locker room. Kaiser said he’s had his eyes on her for a while and talked about how perfect he was but said she hung out with a big, disgusting freak. Dupri slapped him.

Kaiser was knocked back a bit. He smiled and went to look back at Dupri but saw Otis in her place. Otis challenged him to a match tonight and said he won’t be so pretty after he was done with him. Kaiser said he’d see Otis tonight and would see Dupri later.

********

Becky Lynch promo

Lynch said she was almost close to the end and was getting her rematch against Trish Stratus next week. Lynch said it was the greatest of the previous generation against the greatest of this generation — and the next generation and the one after that and to infinity.

Zoey Stark interrupted. Stark said Lynch was scared of her and said “The Man” left her balls back at home. Lynch asked her what the heck she was doing. Lynch knew how good Stark was — but no matter how good she was, she was too stupid to realize she was playing second fiddle to Stratus instead of wrestling for championships.

Stark said she played second fiddle to no one and knew how amazing she was. Stark said the greatest of all time kicked Lynch to the side and picked her instead. Stark called herself the fastest-rising star in WWE.

Shayna Baszler interrupted. Baszler had a black eye. Lynch said, “Damn, Shayna, you’re looking rough.” Baszler said you should see how Ronda Rousey looks. Baszler said we won’t actually be seeing Rousey because she beat her and drove her out of WWE. The crowd applauded and there was a modest, “Thank you, Shayna” chant.

Baszler got in Stark’s face and asked her who was the baddest now. Stark called her the baddest punching bag and threatened to send her home just like Rousey. Lynch was entertained and thought they should have a match tonight.

Pearce walked out and made the match official.

********

JD McDonagh spoke with Bálor in the back. Priest approached them and wanted to speak to Bálor alone. Bálor said he’s known JD for 20 years and could say whatever he wanted in front of him. They argued over what happened at SummerSlam. Priest said that, even with his help, Bálor still lost.

Bálor got in Priest’s face and said maybe it was because of him that he lost. Priest said Bálor was crowding him. Bálor said his briefcase was crowding them.

Ripley ran in to separate them and tried to get them on the same page. She told Bálor that they were all there at SummerSlam to help him. At her behest, Bálor and Priest agreed to stay on the same page.

McDonagh chimed in. He thought the briefcase was getting between them and they should get rid of it. Bálor left with McDonagh. Priest was annoyed but Ripley stopped him from going after them.

*******

Lynch sat at ringside to watch the match and shared a pitcher of lemonade with Wade Barrett. (Lynch made a social media post the day of SummerSlam — which she was left off of — about turning lemons into lemonade.)

Shayna Baszler defeated Zoey Stark (11:49)

Stark took control ahead of a break with a missile dropkick. Stark tried to do Baszler’s arm stomp spot but Baszler avoided it and hit a gut wrench suplex for two. Stark countered a Kirifuda Clutch and hit a springboard dive. Stark was distracted by Lynch who was just standing there so Baszler hit her with Rousey’s Piper Pit (spinning Samoan Drop) for the pinfall win.

(This match was fine but it felt long and there were some rough spots, including the finish.)

— Lynch toasted Baszler with her lemonade for beating Stark.

********

Nakamura told Byron Saxton he was tired of people getting involved in his business and was ready to carve his own path.

Just as he said this, the interview stopped when they heard crashing noises nearby. It was McDonagh attacking Sami Zayn. Officials stepped in to stop it.

********

Ludwig Kaiser (w/Giovanni Vinci) defeated Otis (w/Maxxine Dupri) (3:01)

Otis was too much for Kaiser early on but he ran shoulder-first into the ring post. Kaiser got face-to-face with Dupri so Otis went after him. Otis set up for the Caterpillar but Vinci jumped on the apron. Otis suplexed Vinci from the apron into the ring.

The ref was distracted trying to get Vinci out of the ring so Gunther ran into and booted Otis. Kaiser followed with a running boot for the pinfall win. Kaiser gave Dupri a look as they announced him the winner.

— Imperium attacked Otis after the match but bailed after Gable ran down to make the save. The crowd chanted for Gable as Gunther smiled confidently at him.

********

Jackie Redmond caught up with Rollins and Rhodes as they left the trainer’s room. She asked about Zayn. They both tried to answer at the same time and gave each other an annoyed look. Rhodes left and invited Rollins to do the interview himself. Rollins said Zayn wouldn’t be cleared to wrestle tonight.

Nakamura appeared and offered to be their partner. Rollins said he has respected Nakamura for years and accepted his offer.

(They zoomed in on a smirking Nakamura as he watched Rollins leave.)

********

[THIRD HOUR]

The Miz / LA Knight segment

Miz entered. He complained about LA Knight (and the battle royal) and about a lack of respect. He spoke about learning the hard way early in his career about having to introduce yourself in the locker room, show respect, and shake hands. Miz said Knight never shook his hand. (The crowd yelled, “Yeah!” whenever Miz said Knight’s name.)

LA Knight interrupted. He was cheered. Knight thought they had a good introduction in the battle royal but offered a handshake anyway. Miz said no.

Miz has seen other wrestlers come into WWE and try to ride his coattails. Miz said if you stripped away his charisma and his hot wife, you get guys like LA Knight. The crowd loved him now and they’ll buy his t-shirts for five months but Knight was just an Attitude Era fanboy playing cosplaying in his ring. The crowd chanted “Tiny balls.”

Knight said he had no problem with Miz but warned him not to make this personal. Miz said he always took it personally because people told him he’d never make it but he main evented WrestleMania, won world titles, etc. Miz wondered what Knight has done over the last 20 years.

Knight said he’s been making himself a dangerous man, scratching and clawing to get in, while WWE bet on all the wrong horses — Miz’s included. Knight was a thoroughbred waiting for the right opening but Miz got a 20-year head start because he was safe. They knew they could smack Miz around and kick him out of the locker room and Miz would just take it.

They knew that they couldn’t do that to LA Knight because he wasn’t to be messed with. Knight said his career was climbing while Miz’s was in the toilet. Knight said he would step over Miz to get to the main event. Miz said he was the main event and Knight was not on his level. Knight offered to prove him wrong because he wasn’t going anywhere.

Miz took off his suit jacket but didn’t fight. Knight looked away for a moment so Miz chucked his jacket in his face and tried to hit a Skull Crushing Finale. Knight countered it and gave Miz the Blunt Force Trauma. As Miz lay on the mat, Knight “shook” his hand.

********

The following segment was billed as an open challenge by the Viking Raiders and it led to a return.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods defeated The Viking Raiders (w/Valhalla) (5:39)

Erik and Ivar had control over Woods until he hit Erik with a tornado DDT. Kingston made the hot tag and hit Ivar with strikes, a dropkick, clothesline, crossbody, leg drop and an SOS for two. Ivar dropped Kingston and Erik followed with a knee strike for two. Ivar tagged back in but Kingston used a hurricanrana to take out Erik.

Kingston hit Ivar with Trouble in Paradise before wiping out Erik with a flip dive. Woods hit Ivar with Limit Break (ropewalk elbow drop) for the pinfall win.

********

Saxton wanted to interview Lynch but they were interrupted by Baszler. Baszler said she didn’t want Lynch’s help tonight or ever. Baszler had a list of scores to settle. She was done with Rousey and would be coming for The Man one day. Lynch said she looked forward to it.

********

Redmond approached Kingston and Woods in the back as they celebrated. Kingston looked surprised upon seeing her and asked, “Who are you?” Woods knew what she was going to ask and they said they felt great to be back. Kingston said the Viking Raiders wanted to make a sacrifice to the gods but the New Day were the gods of the tag team division.

Woods noted the Usos breaking up and said they needed to bring positivity back to the tag team division. They planned on becoming tag team champions and invited Redmond to dance with them as they chanted “New Day rocks.” Kingston and Woods told Redmond it was nice to meet her.

********

They announced, via TMZ, that Sonya Deville was out indefinitely with a torn ACL. (You could hear a few fans sighing at the news.) They provided no other updates other than Cole saying, “We’ll have to figure out who is going to become Women’s tag team champions.”

********

Rodriguez jumped Ripley during Judgment Day’s entrance for the main event and hammered away at her until officials broke it up. Ripley broke loose and went after Rodriguez but they were separated again. LaRae and Hartwell joined to help separate them but Ripley attacked them too. LaRae went after Ripley and officials had to separate them too.

Despite what happened, Ripley remained at ringside following a break.

********

Six-man tag team match: Cody Rhodes, Shinsuke Nakamura & World Champion Seth Rollins defeated Finn Bálor, Damian Priest & NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio (w/Rhea Ripley) (14:41)

Rollins and Rhodes couldn’t agree on who should start first so Nakamura stepped in for them. Bálor was ready to start for his team but Priest tagged himself in. They had a discussion before Dom tagged himself in to start. Nakamura was all over Dom so Priest pulled Dom out of the ring and they went to break a minute into the match.

Judgment Day worked over Nakamura as the crowd chanted, “Dom’s a loser.” Barrett thought that was ludicrous. Rollins made a hot tag and ran wild on Priest until Priest cut him off and tagged in Bálor who dropkicked Rollins into the barricade. That led to another break at 10:52 pm.

(The initial entrance for Judgment Day, before the Rodriguez attack, happened before 10:30 pm. They went to break, the babyfaces entered, the match started, and they went to break a minute later. They came back at 10:48 pm but went to break again 4 minutes later.)

At 10:56 pm, Rollins made the hot tag (after a slight hesitation) to Rhodes who had an exchange with Bálor that led to a Cody Cutter for two after Dom broke it up. Nakamura took out Dom, Priest took out Nakamura, Rollins took out Priest, and Bálor took out Rollins.

Priest hit Rhodes from behind with the briefcase as the ref was distracted. Zayn ran in and attacked Priest with his one good arm (heavily selling his left arm). Bálor tried using the briefcase but Rollins superkicked it into his face. Rhodes followed with a Cross Rhodes on Bálor for the pinfall win.

— Rollins invited Zayn into the ring and the four babyfaces celebrated. Rhodes tried to get Rollins to cheer up and Zayn raised their hands in victory. Rollins shook hands with Rhodes.

— As they all celebrated, Nakamura dropped Rollins with a Kinshasa and casually left the ring. Zayn and Rhodes checked on Rollins as Nakamura sauntered up the ramp.

WWE Barrie, Ontario, live results: Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt street fight

Submitted by David Piggott

– American Alpha beat Tyler Breeze and Fandango

Crowd was behind American Alpha even though Breeze is Canadian. Breeze and Fandango got the heat on Gable, then Jordan got the hot tag, and they hit Grand Amplitude for the win.

– Luke Harper beat Mojo Rawley

Lukewarm reaction for Rawley with some cheers for Harper. Lots of comedy spots to try and get the crowd into it at the beginning. Harper won with the lariat.

– Smackdown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss beat Carmella, Natalya, and Nikki Bella in a fatal four way to retain

Crowd was very behind Nikki. A decent pop for Natalya when she came out, but not what she normally gets in Canada. Bella and Bliss worked pretty well together mid match. Bliss got the pin on Carmella to finish a fun match.

– Apollo Crews beat I-C Champion The Miz (w/Maryse) in a non-title match

It was announced as a title match at first, but Miz cut a good heel promo saying he wasn’t going to defend the belt. Tons of heat for Miz, especially at the beginning with Miz doing a ton of stalling. They worked really well together, and had a good, long match. Crews got the crowd behind him during the match, and there was a good pop for the finish when Crews won after the referee caught Maryse trying to interfere and ejected her.

– Heath Slater and Rhyno beat The Ascension and the Vaudevillians in a three way tag match

Crowd was pretty behind Slater and Rhyno and didn’t really care about the other two teams. Rhyno or Slater were in at all times, which kept people interested. A brief altercation between Ascension and the Vaudevillians was met with zero response. Those two teams got the heat on Slater, and he got the hot tag to Rhyno, who hit the Gore for the win.

– Baron Corbin beat Kalisto

Pretty similar to every Corbin/Kalisto match. Kids in the crowd were behind Kalisto, which got Corbin some heat. Corbin got the pin with the end of days.

– Dean Ambrose beat Bray Wyatt in a Barrie Street Fight

Crowd was really hot for Ambrose, but there were also some cheers for Wyatt as well. Minimal amount of plunder for a street fight. It started with trading shots with the kendo stick. Ambrose brought three chairs into the ring, used those, and then set up a table in the ring. This brought Harper out, and Ambrose went through the table. James Ellsworth came out to help Ambrose, but was taken out quickly. Harper was sent out of the ring, followed by Ambrose sending Wyatt into a chair set up in the corner, and the Dirty Deeds for the win.

Overall a fun show, though a little disappointing that so many top Smackdown names were missing (Styles, Orton, Ziggler, Lynch were all not there, though Styles is understandable).

WWE Raw live results: Will Roman Reigns join the Clash of Champions main event?

The Big Takeaway —

On an otherwise dreary show, Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns had among the best Raw matches of the year. Owens won with a Pop-Up Power Bomb after Rusev distracted Reigns. On paper, this sets up Owens vs. Seth Rollins in a singles match at Clash of Champions.

However, Rollins defied the orders of Mick Foley to not interfere in the main event, as he jumped Owens. Foley told Rollins if he interfered there would be consequences. At first, Rollins’ interference led to Owens winning by DQ, but Foley restarted the match. Also, Sasha Banks faces Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship at COC after she pinned Bayley in a three-way match. And Chris Jericho takes on Sami Zayn at COC.

Show Recap —

Mick Foley was in the ring wearing a clover green undershirt. He said Clash of Champions was the 1st-ever Raw exclusive PPV. He mentioned Becky Lynch winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship, but said he believes Raw still delivers the premier institution for women’s wrestling in the world today. He brought out Charlotte and Dana Brooke.

Charlotte said she believes after last week, an apology was in order. Brooke started to say that Charlotte didn’t need to apologize to her, but Charlotte said Brooke should apologize to her. She blamed her loss to Bayley on Brooke and said she’s working to have the record books changed to pinning the loss on Brooke, who said she’s sorry. Sasha Banks walked out and said she was winning the championship tonight.

Bayley walked out and said she beat Charlotte last week, so maybe she deserves a shot at the championship. Banks told Bayley she has no friends when it comes to the women’s championship, so Bayley needs to get to the back of the line. Charlotte brought up beating Banks at SummerSlam. Banks challenged her to a fight then and there. Charlotte said Banks doesn’t get to dictate when she gets to defend her championship.

Foley said Charlotte was right, he gets to dictate when Charlotte defends the championship. Charlotte claimed that Bayley doesn’t believe that Banks deserves the championship. Brooke said Bayley and Banks should have a best-of-7 series for the championship. Charlotte shouted down Banks for interrupting. Foley arranged a Bayley vs. Banks match with the winner facing Charlotte at COC.

Charlotte, for some reason, was mad at Brooke over that announcement. Charlotte started screaming at Brooke, who slapped Charlotte. Then Foley added Brooke to the match, making it a three-way. Brooke was clearly designed to get the biggest pop after the slap.

Sasha Banks pinned Bayley in a triple threat match that also included Dana Brooke to earn a title shot at Charlotte at Clash of Champions (12:21)

Banks hit the Bank Statement on Brooke, but Bayley made the save. Then Bayley hit Brooke with the Bayley-to-Belly, but Banks broke it up with a jackknife cradle on Bayley for the pin. Brooke worked with Bayley and Banks through the first four minutes and got more offense than anyone overall. When Banks and Bayley went one-on-one, there was a pop. Then they went to a commercial. There was the obligatory Tower of Doom spot where Bayley took a superplex while Banks power bombed Brooke.

Brooke found Charlotte backstage and said she was sorry. Charlotte told her to shut up and get her bags.

The Shining Stars were backstage trying to talk R-Truth to invest in time shares in Puerto Rico. They asked for his credit card. Truth was about to give it to him with Goldust stopped him. Enzo Amore and Big Cass walked up and called them con men. Enzo told Epico they had unfinished business. Epico insulted Enzo in Spanish.

Tom Phillips interviewed Kevin Owens, who called Phillips “Tyler.” Owens wanted to know if Tyler wanted him to say something like Roman Reigns doesn’t belong in the same ring as him ever. Or that Foley is jealous of him. Owens told “Terry” there won’t be a triple-threat match at Clash of Champions and he’s walking out as Universal Champion.

Then Chris Jericho walked in and was mad that Foley pulled Owens out of appearing on the Highlight Reel. Instead, Sami Zayn will appear and he would expose the real Zayn. He would show that Zayn is a “stupid idio-it.”

Bo Dallas came out carrying a “Bo-Lieve in Bo” campaign sign. He’s dropped the motivational speaker gimmick and cut a promo in a harsher tone telling the fans “Only I can Bo-Lieve in Bo.”

Bo Dallas defeated Brandon Scott (1:12)

After Brandon Scott got a few hope spots, Dallas won with the Roll of the Dice.

Jericho and Zayn came out for the Highlight Reel. Jericho acted like he was now the best friend of the most popular guy in high school. Jericho said Zayn was the problem in the Zayn-Owens relationship. Zayn vowed to win the Universal championship, and said if Jericho really thinks Owens is his best friend, he really is a stupid idiot. Jericho said Zayn was just like the fans, a taker. Jericho is a giver, he gives people what he wants. He started to say the Gift of Jericho, but Zayn said that gift sucks.

Zayn said Owens doesn’t care about Jericho, doesn’t care about the fans, he only cares about Kevin Owens. Jericho said Zayn was jealous that Owens was the longest reigning Universal champion in history, and Zayn was just Zayn. It led to Zayn saying he and Owens traveled the world trying to be like Jericho, Dean Malenko and Eddy Guerrero. He said Jericho was a 6-time world champion, but now he’s been relegated to being Owens’ bitch.

Jericho said he got a text from Owens before the segment started. He started to show Zayn the text message, but cracked Zayn upside the head with his cell phone, then hit the Codebreaker. Foley later ordered a match between Jericho and Zayn at Clash of Champions.

Cesaro defeated Sheamus in Match 5 of their best of seven series. Sheamus leads the series 3-2. (9:58)

Cesaro won after a schoolboy cradle while using the ropes. Sheamus worked over Cesaro’s back with the Irish Curse and a Cloverleaf. Back and forth match where Cesaro escaped the High Cross before the finish.

Foley talked with Seth Rollins backstage. Rollins didn’t understand why Foley gave Reigns a chance at getting in the main event of Clash of Champions. Foley said Reigns was wrong at the Fatal Four Way every bit as much as Rollins. Rollins wanted to see Stephanie. Foley said Stephanie was in Singapore and she didn’t care who the champion was. The only wins and losses she cared about was Raw vs. SmackDown.

Rollins said that was the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard and claimed Foley was in her pocket, then teased interfering in the main event tonight. Foley got upset at Rollins and warned him not to get involved. Rollins said if Foley thought Reigns was on the same level as Rollins, then Foley was just a fool.

Nia Jax defeated Alicia Fox via referee stoppage (1:46)

Nia Jax did a pre-match interview saying she doesn’t do crazy and she would tear Alicia Fox apart. She swung Fox against the hair outside the ring into the barricade left and right like she was swinging a baseball bat. Then Jax speared Fox through the bellkeeper’s table. Fox was motionless. The match simply ended while Jax looked menacingly down at Fox. As Jax left, she got a surprising amount of cheers.

New Day came out. Big E.’s new gimmick is has Booty-Os cereal in his boots and pours them out to fans holding out bowls at ringside. Xavier Woods talked about the ill-fated Old Day segment by Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows. Woods told Anderson and Gallows that entertainment was the New Day’s thing, so “Don’t mess with our thing.”

Kofi Kingston said the segment lasted 5:37. Big E. said fans could have poured themselves a big bowl of Booty-Os in 5:37. Woods apologized for Anderson and Gallows wasting their time and dumping it into a cannister of fire.

Anderson and Gallows showed up. Anderson said New Day wore unicorn horns, sang dumb songs and they accused them of wasting people’s time?

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson defeated Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day in a non-title match (9:53)

Anderson pinned Woods with the Magic Killer. Woods did an impressive Randy Savage Elbow on Anderson from three-quarters of the way across the ring. Gallows knocked Kingston out of the ring with a big boot to lead to the finish. More of a showcase for Anderson and Gallows as they worked over Kingston for the heat.

Reigns did a backstage interview with Phillips. He said the only thing in his mind right now was getting to Clash of Champions. They only way to do that was kicking Owens’ ass.

Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves built up the crusierweights will debut next week.

Jinder Mahal is now billed as “the man who comes in peace.” He did a pre-match promo saying during his absence, he felt hatred towards everything and everyone. But he’s learned to let all that go. He’s spent time in the monasteries and found peace, then tried to get the fans to chant peace.

Jinder Mahal defeated Jack Swagger (3:18)

Mahal won with a neckbreaker after getting the knees up on a Swagger bomb. Not much to it.

Phillips approached Swagger backstage. He said that it’s no secret that Swagger’s contract expires soon and what he was planning to do. Swagger just glared at Phillips and walked off.

Enzo and Cass came out. Enzo said “Eskimo Zo”  wasn’t sweating Epico. The Shining Stars are now handing out brochures to fans trying to sell time shares. They’re almost doing Chavo Guerrero’s Amway Salesman gimmick from 1999 Russo-era Nitro. Who could turn down that license to print money?

Primo defeated Enzo Amore (3:18)

Enzo did a tope on Epico after Cass gave Primo a big boot in a spot that developed at half the speed of smell. Enzo tried to suplex Epico back in, but Primo tripped Enzo and held his leg in the finish.

Rollins approached Ownes backstage. Rollins told Owens he hoped Owens won tonight against Reigns. Rollins said since HHH was too much of a coward to show his face tonight, he couldn’t think of anything better than beat up his golden boy. Owens mentioned that Rollins always had someone else doing his fighting for him, whether it was HHH, J&J Security, or Kane.

Owens said ever since Rollins returned from his injury, he’s done nothing but fail. He’s lost to Dean Ambrose, lost to Finn Balor, and lost to Owens. He said Rollins slogan of “Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim” was more like “Redesign, Rebuild, Replaced.”

Foley walked up and told Owens that was enough. Then he told Rollins he knew what Rollins was thinking, but ordered Rollins not to interfere in the match or else there would be consequences.

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defeated Roman Reigns in a non-title match (21:39)

Originally, Rollins ran out and jumped Owens at 13:11, leading to Owens being declared the winner by DQ. Foley, Fit Finley and several other agents forced Rollins to the back, but a furious Foley screamed at Rollins to go into his office immediately because he disobeyed his orders. Then Foley restarted the match.

What unfolded was among the best Raw matches of the year. Reigns tried a superplex, but Owens turned it into the old ROH Go Home Drive for a near fall. Then Owens came back with a Frog Splash for another good two count. Owens missed a cannonball, Reigns went for a spear, Owens blocked it with a kick, but Reigns hit the Superman Punch for one of those great near falls where some of the fans cheer because they thought it was a three count.

Reigns caught a Drive-by outside the ring. Owens hit a superkick on Reigns, followed by two Cannonballs. Owens went for the Pop-Up Power Bomb, but Reigns escaped out the back door and rolled Owens into a School Boy Power Bomb, but Owens got out. Reigns called for the Spear, but Rusev ran out to distract Reigns, who gave Rusev a Superman Punch. But Owens ran up from behind and gave Reigns the Pop Up Power Bomb for the pin.

Post-match, Reigns punished Reigns with a thrust kick. Lana came out on the ramp and ordered Rusev to give him the Accolade, which he did. There were a few fans chanting “Rusev.” The show ended without Foley explaining what consequences awaited Rollins.

WWE Manila, PHL, live results: Owens vs. Zayn vs. Rollins; Cena vs. Big Show

Submitted by Guio Martinez from the Mall of Asia Arena.

– Cesaro defeated Sheamus

Cesaro won by submission with the sharpshooter in a quick 10-minute match.  Hot crowd from the start, with both guys getting good pops during their entrance

– Braun Strowman defeated Goldust

Strowman won with a bear hug. He got some heat when he came out, but it fizzled towards the end of the match. Goldust got a nice pop from the crowd, especially from the older part of the audience. The match went longer than expected and wasn’t a standard squash.

– Charlotte cut a pre-taped promo where she referred to Sasha Banks as “Sasha Wanks.”

– Neville defeated Curtis Axel w/ Bo Dallas

Neville won by pinfall following a Red Arrow in a quick match. A glorified squash, with Neville taking the lead for the match. Crowd didn’t seem to care for Axel. He didn’t get much of a response when he came out. Dallas got more heat than he did.

– Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defeated Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows and The Shining Stars in a triple threat match to retain their titles

Big E and Woods won by pinfall after hitting Midnight Hour on Anderson. The New Day were way over with the Manila crowd. Lots of Booty O’s shirts in the audience.

More of a comedy match, with New Day taking their time in throwing their shirts to the crowd before the match started. The Shining Stars kept on using the “too sweet” sign to tag in Gallows and Anderson.

– A Sasha Banks pre-taped promo aired.

– John Cena defeated Big Show

Cena won by pinfall after hitting the AA. Big Show got a huge pop, but it was pretty obvious from the start that he would be playing heel tonight as he didn’t pander to the crowd much. A huge “AJ Styles” chant broke out before they rang the bell. Cena seemed amused to hear it.

Highlight of the night was Big Show attempting to do a splash on Cena off the second rope and, to the delight of the crowd, it broke.

– Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks to retain her title

Charlotte won by pinfall following a roll-up with her feet on the ropes. Banks got a nice pop when she came out. Crowd was definitely behind her throughout the match. Banks was selling her back injury during the first half of the match.

– Roman Reigns defeated Chris Jericho

Reigns won by pinfall after hitting a spear. Jericho was way over with the crowd. He cut a standard heel promo before the match, in which he called the Philippines a “stinky place” to try and get the crowd to turn on him.

Reigns was showered with heat. Probably the only guy on the roster who actually drew a lot of heat during the show. But there were fewer boos as the match went on.

– WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match to retain his title

Owens retained by pinfall following a pop-up powerbomb on Zayn. Rollins came out to a huge ovation, with him playing up to the crowd. Zayn also got a huge pop, and the crowd was solidly behind him during the match. Owens got a great reaction too, mixed with some boos from the younger crowd.

Definitely the match of the night. A lot of false finishes and great in-ring work from all three.

After the match, Owens set up Zayn for another powerbomb but Rollins ran in to make the save. Zayn hit the Helluva Kick on Owens, followed by a Pedigree from Rollins on Owens as well. Rollins shook Zayn’s hand right after and left him in the ring. Zayn closed the show to send the fans home happy.

WWE London, ENG, live results: Cesaro stays alive in the best-of-seven series

Submitted by Martin Bentley from the O2 Arena in London, England.

– Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defeated Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows to retain their titles.

Xavier Woods helped turn the tide, allowing Big E and Kofi Kingston to hit the Midnight Hour for the win. Good standard opening match fare.

– Neville defeated Bo Dallas (w/Curtis Axel)

Some stiff shots laid in for this one. Neville knocked Axel off the apron, then later won with the Red Arrow.

– Braun Strowman defeated Goldust

Strowman won with his head and arm choke in a quick match. Good reaction for Goldust.

– Big Show defeated the Shining Stars in a handicap match.

Some good laughs in this one, almost all at Primo and Epico’s expense. Big Show won with a double chokeslam.

– Cesaro defeated Sheamus in match four of their best-of-seven series. Sheamus now holds a 3-1 advantage in the series.

Very good match. It went 20 minutes and built up well as it went on. Cesaro reversed out of a leg submission hold to roll Sheamus up for the pin.

– Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks to retain her title.

Banks’ back held up well over 10 minutes, and the match got a good reaction. Charlotte got out of the Banks Statement, then rolled Sasha up and pulled her trunks to pick up the win.

– Roman Reigns defeated Chris Jericho

Tremendous amount of booing towards Reigns. Jericho was very entertaining with his pre-match promo, and entertained during the match as well. Well worked contest which went around 15 minutes. Jericho got the fans thinking he’d win with the Walls of Jericho, but Reigns got out and hit the spear.

– WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match to retain his title.

Rollins looked good as a main event babyface, even though Zayn was loved by everyone. Good three-way spots, including dives by Rollins and Zayn. Zayn hit the Helluva Kick on Rollins, but Owens hit the Pop-Up Powerbomb for the win.

Zayn hit the Helluva Kick and Rollins hit the Pedigree on Owens after the match to send the fans home happy. Rollins and Zayn shook hands after.

The next show in London is on November 4th at SSE Arena Wembley, featuring the Raw roster, and Owens vs. Rollins was advertised.

WWE Raw live results: A new Universal Champion is crowned

The Big Takeaway —

Kevin Owens is the new WWE Universal Champion by winning the Fatal Four-way elimination match after HHH returned to Raw for the first time since March. HHH gave Roman Reigns a Pedigree on the floor, allowing Seth Rollins to pin him.

HHH acted like he was going to give Rollins a free path to the championship by also giving Owens a Pedigree, but instead HHH turned on Rollins and gave him a Pedigree, setting up Owens for the pin. The place went crazy for Owens winning. Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon, who earlier said everyone from ringside would be barred from the main event, were shocked to see HHH back and didn’t appear happy with him afterwards. It was the only thing of note on the show.

Show Recap —

The show was dedicated to the memory of Mr. Fuji.

Corey Graves opened the show in the ring with the Fatal Four-way participants seated in the ring on stools. Reigns got booked beyond belief when he appeared on the TitanTron. Rollins said if it wasn’t for what he did to Balor, none of them would be out there right now. Rollins said he was the favorite to win the Universal Championship tonight, and he felt benevolent tonight and wanted to donate the time he had to speak to Owens.

Owens complimented Graves for his show on the WWE Network, “Culture Shock,” because it helps him sleep. Fans chanted “Fight Owens Fight.” Owens thought Graves wanted everyone to be nice to each other like it was a group therapy session, and with Sami Zayn out of the picture he can focus on the Universal Championship. He said he’s a prize fighter and tonight the prize is as high as it gets. Owens said Reigns fights hard, but he fights smart. As for Big Cass, Owens says he’s just really tall. Owens was surprised that Cass could talk for himself because he thought Enzo Amore pulled a string out of Cass’ back and then Cass started speaking.

Cass wondered if Chris Jericho gave Owens that line. Cass said he knew where he stood because he’s the new guy on Raw. But that means he has nothing to lose. No one expects him to win. Rollins joked even Enzo betted against Cass. Cass said he’s not the underdog, he’s the biggest dog in this fight. Fans booed that line. Cass said contrary to what Rollins has thought over the last few years, size does matter.

Rollins said the match was elimination rules. He vowed to send Cass and Owens packing. If it came down to Rollins vs. Reigns, there are three certainties in life: death, taxes and Rollins beating Reigns every single time.

Rollins ordered Graves to ask Reigns how he will win tonight. Reigns got up and slapped Owens. That led to a brawl. Reigns threw Rollins down. Cass and Reigns had a stareoff, but Rollins kneed Reigns in the back, and Reigns collided with Cass. Reigns recovered to throw Cass out of the ring and delivered a Superman Punch to Rollins as the fans continued to jeer.

Michael Cole announced that Stephanie McMahon has ordered Paul Heyman to address Brock Lesnar’s actions at SummerSlam tonight.

Jericho did a standup interview with Tom Phillips before a match with Neville. Jericho said Neville was like Mighty Mouse and asked “Phil” what Neville was going to get. Phillips said “It.” Jericho said Neville wasn’t going to get “it” because that made no sense. He said Neville was going to get the drink of Jericho, “drink it in, man.”

Chris Jericho defeated Neville by submission (10:50)

Jericho won with the Walls of Jericho for the tapout. Neville attempted the Red Arrow but Jericho rolled out of the way. Then Neville tried to counter with a hurricanrana, but Jericho countered for the finish. Neville constantly found counters to Jericho’s trademark smarks throughout the match. Neville hit a standing shooting star press, then followed with a Asai Moonsault after Jericho rolled out of the ring.

Bayley wandered around backstage hugging various people. She ran across the New Day, who were happy to see her. Dana Brooke walked in and said Bayley was being unprofessional and said she didn’t belong her. Big E. spoke up and reminded Bayley beat Brooke last week.

Brooke said she had been talking to Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson lately. Kofi Kingston spoke up and said to bring on the negative Nancy’s. Brooke says she’ll bring them, but Bayley spoke up and said it’s already been brought, a line from the movie “Bring it On.” New Day hoisted Bayley on their shoulders.

They acknowledged the Rock as being the top-grossing movie star in the world.

Nia Jax defeated Ion (1:17)

Nia Jax won with the fireman’s carry into a powerslam. Andrea D’Marco did an interview with Ion where it sounded like they were reciting a script one syllable at a time. Just another squash.

Gallows and Anderson did a promo saying they were once doctors, but they’re now in the retirement business. They run an organization whose acronym spells out “OLD FART.” They showed highlights of their destruction of the Dudley Boyz last week, and said Bubba Ray and Devon were now enjoying like ping-pong and Matlock reruns. They introduced the retirement center’s new nurse, Dana Brooke, who walked in and put on rubber gloves. This set up a trios mixed tag team match later.

Sami Zayn defeated Jinder Mahal (3:06)

Zayn won with the Helluva Kick. Jinder Mahal got some offense because Zayn continued to sell his ankle that was “injured” in his match with Rollins last week.

Charlotte was at the commentator’s table. They showed footage of Lita interviewing Sasha Banks about her back injury. Banks called Charlotte a coward and accused her of trying to end her career, but now Banks was more focused than ever on getting her belt back and she was coming back better than ever.

Bayley, Kofi Kingston and Big E. defeated Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson and Dana Brooke (13:27)

Bayley pinned Brooke with the Bayley-to-belly. Kingston got the heat and set up the hot tag to Big E., but Anderson pulled Big E. off the apron. It broke into a six-way brawl where Kingston did a flip tope on Gallows that almost missed him completely. Bayley got to do the Unicorn Stampede spot, then danced with Big E. and Kingston while Xavier Woods played the trombone. Brooke specialized in taking bumps long before Bayley had even started reaching for her. Bayley motioned to Charlotte that she wanted a title shot after getting the win.

Cesaro did an interview about the second match of the best-of-seven series with Sheamus. He said he didn’t like Sheamus, Phillips didn’t like Sheamus, and no one liked Sheamus. Tonight, he was going to spin him around and around.

The company congratulated Fifth Harmony for winning two MTV Video Music Awards last night. At WrestleMania, they performed “America, the Beautiful.”

They did a promo piece on Cass saying how all the work he’s put into his career was work it because he made it to the WWE. He said he feels jacked up when he’s in front of the fans, like he could run through a brick wall.

Sheamus did an interview running down Cesaro saying he’s never done the things he’s done, like win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship or star in a top-grossing movie. He said Cesaro has spent his whole life trying to become a WWE champion but failed, and how is he going to feel in the end when he fails?

Sheamus defeated Cesaro by submission to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series. (11:12)

Cesaro did the Kazuchika Okada dropkick where Sheamus fell to the floor off the top rope. Sheamus ran for an uppercut on the floor, but Sheamus backdropped Cesaro into the post. Sheamus rolled Cesaro back into the ring and clamped on the Cloverleaf for the quick tapout. Things got interesting after Cesaro hit the springboard spinning uppercut after Cesaro ducked the Brogue Kick. Cesaro went for the Giant Swing, Sheamus made the ropes, so Cesaro used a pull-out power bomb for a two count.

Cole introduced a tribute video to Harry Fujiwara. They mentioned his various managerial exploits, saying he was perhaps best known as the manager of Yokozuna. Of course, no Fuji tribute video would be complete without an excerpt of “Fuji Vice.” There was also highlights from “Fuji Hospital,” where Don Muraco couldn’t keep a straight face while Fuji recited his lines. Very nice tribute.

The weekly Strowman squash match was with Americo, a Luchador. When Byron Saxton asked him why he was taking the match, Americo started to answer. Then Strowman’s music started and Americo was stunned into silence. Cole said he looked like Max Moon.

Braun Strowman defeated Americo (:56)

Strowman pinned Americo with a Manhattan Drop, then unmasked Americo, which actually got some heat.

Stephanie came out to address the SummerSlam situation with Heyman. Stephanie said she didn’t take any glee on what happened to her brother Shane at SummerSlam even though they’re in competition with each other. Heyman interrupted her. Stephanie ordered him to get in the ring and apologize.

Fans chanted “ECW.” Stephanie took credit for that because she claimed to have purchased ECW in 2001. Heyman said Lesnar’s victory over Randy Orton was in fact a victory for Raw. But when Lesnar gave Shane an F-5, it was over the line. So Heyman wanted to pay his client’s $500 fine. Heyman pulled out a brickload of money and tried to pay off with $1 bills. Stephanie slapped the money out of his hands and wondered what value Heyman had to the company. Stephanie said there was a storm coming Heyman’s way.

Heyman said the storm was his client Brock Lesnar. Heyman said Lesnar put Stephanie in a compromising position with the Board of Directors, which Stephanie must answer to. Heyman said they put Stephanie in a compromising position with her father because Lesnar was the only fighter she had. Heyman said Stephanie was the only heir to the boardroom. He asked her to accept the fine and accept the apology. She said apology accepted. Heyman had a devlish look in his eyes. Cole said “Perhaps Mr. Heyman dodged a bullet.” The purpose of this segment was for Stephanie to make it clear that she has power over Heyman, but Heyman making it clear that Lesnar is her most prized client. I think.

They showed an update about Balor, including his shoulder surgery. He’s counting the days until he can return on Twitter.

They did a profile on Reigns, just as they did the other three participants in the main event. The noteworthy thing was Reigns was the only one who didn’t get any interview time in his video. It was comprised only of highlights from previous matches.

Darren Young defeated Titus O’Neil (4:01)

Darren Young won after Titus O’Neil got a near fall, then started arguing with the referee. Young hit a crucifix for the banana peel pin. O’Neil jumped Bob Backlund afterwards with a kick to the chest. O’Neil laid out Young and screamed “You both owe me!” Dead silence for all of this.

Mick Foley told Stephanie he should have been out there with her earlier. Stephanie said she can take care of herself. Foley shifted the subject to the main event and recommended that everyone be barred from ringside for the match. Stephanie agreed. Rollins walked in and said he felt like this would be his night and he wouldn’t let Stephanie down. Stephanie said she knew he wouldn’t and they hugged.

Owens eliminated Cass at 12:41 with the frog splash. There were several toe-to-toe showdowns between Cass and Reigns, the final one ending with Reigns hitting a backbreaker, but Cass using the Big Boot to send Reigns over the top rope. Cass also fell over the top rope and went to the floor hard. Rollins followed with a tope, but Owens dropped Rollins across the barricade. Then Reigns flew over the top rope with a tope onto Owens and Rollins, neither of whom made much of a catch.

Rollins eliminated Reigns at 23:48. The second segment of the match opened with Reigns hitting a Power Bomb on Rollins, who hit a superplex on Owens for the Tower of Doom spot. Owens kicked out at two. Rollins hit the Falcon Arrow on Reigns for another near fall. Later, Rollins went for the springboard knee, but Rollins caught him in mid-air with the Superman Punch, but Rollins kicked out. Rollins kicked Reigns, but Owens superkicked Rollins.

Owens gave Rollins the Cannonball. He attempted one on Reigns, but Reigns caught him with a Superman punch for a two count. Rollins went for a Pedigree on Reigns, but Reigns reversed it into a schoolboy cradle, then hit the one-armed power bomb for another great near fall. “This is Awesome” chants. Reigns hit another Superman Punch to Owens outside the ring, then a Spear to Rollins.

Then out of nowhere, HHH came out of the crowd and gave Reigns a Pedigree on the floor. Crowd erupted. HHH put Rollins back in the ring and Rollins pinned Reigns. Not counting his cameos in various promotional packages, this was HHH’s first Raw appearance since the WrestleMania go-home show.

Owens pinned Rollins to win the WWE Universal Championship at 25:03. HHH rolled a beaten-down Owens into the ring, making it appear that HHH wanted the Universal Championship on Rollins. HHH lifted Owens up, then turned to his right and kicked Rollins in the gut.

The place went crazy as HHH gave Rollins the Pedigree. A stunned Owens watched in disbelief as HHH ordered him to cover Rollins, which he did to win the championship to a monster babyface pop. Foley and Stephanie were shocked as HHH took the Universal Championship off Foley’s shoulder and gave it to Owens. HHH glared at Foley and Stephanie before he walked away. The show went off the air with the crowd chanting in unison “You deserve it.”

Bobby Roode had one of the biggest reactions of the night. Riddick Moss played a good heel, and Roode was fantastic. Roode won with a rotating DDT/facebuster.

– New signee Macey Estrella came out for an interview and cut a promo about how she was there to join an amazing women’s division. She mentioned her past as a marine, saying she never gave up.

– Ember Moon defeated Nikki Glencross

Ember Moon picked up the win with the top rope stunner.

– Hideo Itami defeated Austin Aries

Great match, it ended with Hideo Itami getting the GTS on Austin Aries for the win.

WWE Raw live results: Lesnar & Heyman return on SummerSlam go-home show

The Big Takeaway —

The Roman Reigns-Rusev feud continues to help both men. Leading up to their PPV match at SummerSlam, the two fought in a non-title bout that Rusev wanted to “fight for Lana’s honor.” Reigns won in a good brawl.

Jon Stewart will be back for SummerSlam this Sunday. Also, Sheamus and Cesaro will engage in a best-of-seven series, just like Magnum T.A. and Nikita Koloff in 1986, just not for the U.S Championship. There was also the debut of Finn Balor’s “Demon King” persona. Aside from all that, the show consisted of mainly squash matches.

Show Recap —

Seth Rollins did a promo from earlier today outside the arena.

He said he was six days away from becoming the first Universal Champion, but first he had business to settle with the Demon King. He called out the Demon King, but he never showed up. Rollins said Balor was too scared to find the man, so tonight the man was going to find the King.

Inside the building, Lana and Rusev were in the ring still upset with Reigns from last week.

Rusev said there would be no Raw until Reigns came out and apologized. Mick Foley showed up and told Rusev and Lana to leave the ring. Rusev ran down Foley, who looked dead serious.

Rusev said Foley was no GM without him, the greatest U.S. champion ever. Rusev demanded respect and said he lied when he said Foley was the greatest GM of all time because Foley sucked. Rusev wanted to know how could Foley give Reigns a shot at the U.S. Championship when he’s done nothing to earn it. Rusev demanded Stephanie McMahon come out.

Stephanie showed up. Rusev said Stephanie knew what it was like to be married to a superstar so she knew what he was talking about. Stephanie said she stands behind Foley 100 percent and Rusev’s conduct was unprofessional. Rusev said maybe he should call Shane McMahon, teasing jumping to SmackDown.

Reigns came out and said he was sorry that Rusev found the website where he discovered his wife. He said Rusev and Lana would make the ugliest sasquatch babies. Rusev started in on all the stupid people that support Reigns. It led to Reigns demanding a fight then and there, but Stephanie said the U.S. Championship match would take place on SummerSlam.

Rusev said this was about more than the U.S. Championship, this was about his wife’s honor. Foley then ordered a non-title match tonight between the two to defend Lana’s honor.

Sami Zayn defeated Sheamus (10:14)

Sheamus faced Sami Zayn. Byron Saxton did an in-ring interview where Sheamus claimed he’s proved to be a better athlete than Cesaro. He ran down Zayn as someone who made snide comments about him on Twitter, but he’s nothing to him and a cheap knockout of the Celtic Warrior. Fans chanted “You look stupid,” but Sheamus responded “You paid to see me, so who looks stupid now?”

Zayn used the Blue Thunder Bomb and went for the Helluva Kick, but Sheamus caught him with the Irish Curse backbreaker. Sheamus went for the Brogue Kick, but Cesaro came down to distract Sheamus. Zayn hit the Helluva Kick for the pin.

Zayn attempted a tornado DDT on the floor, but Sheamus rammed his back into the post. Later on, Zayn hit a somersault tope, but Sheamus was up in no time and caught Zayn with White Noise. Cesaro was on commentary. Michael Cole brought up Daniel Bryan’s comments that there was room on the SmackDown roster for Cesaro, but Cesaro said he was a Raw team player.

Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens did an interview. Owens is facing Big Cass tonight. Jericho said Enzo Amore wasn’t a certified “G” because who certified him? Plus, Cass didn’t know how to spell because the word “soft” doesn’t contain the letters “A” or “W.” Owens and Jericho called the interviewer, Tom Phillips, a variety of names, including “Todd” “James” and “Paul.”

Backstage, Sheamus and Cesaro were screaming at each other. Foley ran in looking intense as hell, saying he was sick of both men interfering in each other’s matches. So he ordered a best-of-seven series between the two of them with the first match coming at SummerSlam.

WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day defeated The Dudley Boyz in a non-title match (1:36)

Kofi Kingston pinned D-Von Dudley with Trouble in Paradise. Bubba Ray Dudley accidentally clotheslined D-Von, which is the second week in a row the Dudleyz have done that.

Big E was absent as he’s still selling having his groin injured after getting rammed into the ringpost by Gallows and Anderson. Before the match started, we had another diagnosis from Dr. Gallows and Dr. Anderson on the Titantron.

They discussed cases of ringpostitis. They claimed to be getting one inch closer to finding a cure. So they stuck an egg in a microwave as the match started. After the match, the egg was broken in the microwave. Gallows claimed this was a ballbuster. They put three jars on top of the microwave, one with Big E’s name on it with an egg inside. The other two were empty with the names of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Kingston wondered why Gallows and Anderson waited for so long to get to the WWE and now they were blowing up eggs in microwaves. Woods said they would be damned if some patchy haired phalluses would beat them at SummerSlam. Kingston said they had the power of positivity. Woods said they didn’t have the power to lay a hand on their New Day Rocks, because “New Day Rocks.”

Rollins looked for the Demon King backstage. Neville was backstage and said he’s faced Balor before, and Rollins isn’t ready for the Demon King. Rollins screamed how Neville didn’t know what he was talking about.

Nia Jax defeated Rachel Levy (1:02)

Nia Jax sat Rachel Levy, who had blue hair, on the top rope and pushed her to the floor. Jax pinned her with a fireman’s carry into a spinebuster. Levy said she’s watched Team USA in the Olympics and it gave her inspiration, like Simone Biles, to follow her dreams. Saxton hoped she didn’t get vaulted out of the building.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out.

Lesnar was over as anything. Before Heyman could start his promo, Heath Slater came out. Heyman said he didn’t know who put Slater up to this of if he was listening to the voices in Orton’s head, but give him an explanation. Slater said he was the hottest free agent in sports entertainment today. Slater said he didn’t know what was wrong with the SmackDown Live crew, because they wouldn’t know what a superstar was if it slapped him in the face. That’s why he approached Heyman.

Heyman laughed over the very thought over a Lesnar-Slater match. Slater said he was getting another opportunity for a Raw roster spot and all he needed to do was beat Lesnar one-on-one tonight. Crowd was dying for a slaughter. Heyman said Slater was doing too much partying on the Freebird tour bus and went on with his promo.

Slater screamed like a banshee and told Heyman not to disrespect him. Slater said he had kids to feed, and they rely on him to put food on the table. Slater said he knows Lesnar will whip his ass but he has to do it. Heyman tried to talk him out of it.

Finally, Lesnar grabbed the mic and said he can appreciate that and that Slater has guts. Lesnar said Slater has responsibilities, mouths to feed, and children. Brock said he has kids, too. Lesnar invited Slater in the ring, got in Slater’s face and said “I don’t give a shit about your kids.” Lesnar gave Slater two choices, walk out on his own two feet, or keep standing there and keep pissing Lesnar off. Slater started to back off, then rushed at Lesnar.

Lesnar clotheslined him, delivered two German suplexes and gave him the F-5. Lesnar kicked him out of the ring. Heyman put on Slater’s sunglasses and said at least Slater was willing to go face-to-face with Lesnar, something that Orton didn’t have the guts to do.

Heyman said he was a hype artist and supposed to sell people over the fact that Orton was slick, savvy and smart enough to beat Lesnar. But he said Lesnar doesn’t believe that. He said this was the summer of the Beast. He said Lesnar was the box office this Sunday at SummerSlam because no one in the locker room could stand up to Lesnar, not even a 12-time world champion.

Heyman said if they wanted to promote the WWE Network..this Sunday, people would have the once-ever athlete in action. He said people would have the rare opportunity to see the Serpent Slayer, Brock Lesnar, live.

Enzo and Cass came out. Amore said they would have a SummerSlam Barbeque on Sunday. He said if Jericho and Owens had a beef, they would get all in their grill. Amore reeled off several types of meat. Cass called Jericho and Owens “Bert & Ernie.”

Big Cass defeated Kevin Owens by DQ (6:16)

Owens went for the Cannonball, but Cass blocked it with a Big Boot. Cass went for another Big Boot, but Owens dodged it and Cass took a bump to the floor. Owens tried to power bomb Cass on the floor, but Cass backdropped him over.

Meanwhile, Jericho threw Amore into the steps. Jericho jumped Cass for the DQ. Owens and Jericho threw Cass into the barricade. Cass tried to make a comeback, but Owens gave him a superkick and Jericho delivered a codebreaker.

Backstage, Reigns did an interview with Phillips. Reigns said he was going to represent his bloodline and whip Rusev’s ass. Rusev jumped Reigns from behind. Reigns no sold getting his head rammed into a case, but Rusev threw Reigns into a garage door, then gave him a Beal throw onto a catering table. Fit Finley, Brian James and several referees came in to break it up.

The Shining Stars defeated the Prime Time Players (2:41)

Bob Backlund brought out Darren Young and Titus O’Neal. This was set up during the Raw Pregame show where O’Neal suggested to Backlund that the Prime Time Players reunite for one night only. Backlund agreed to it. Of course, this was designed for two things: 1. Backlund does the Millions of Dollars dance and 2. have O’Neal turn on Young.

Sure enough, Backlund tried to give O’Neal instructions, but Young accidentally ran into O’Neal. Next thing you know, O’Neal gave Young Clash of the Titus, leaving Primo open for the easy pin.

Neville defeated Jinder Mahal (2:57)

Neville did a twisting plancha on Jinder Mahal. Good short match where Neville won with the Red Arrow.

Foley and Stephanie talked backstage. Foley said he got off the phone with Jon Stewart and said he would be the guest at SummerSlam again this year. Rollins walked in and said he couldn’t find the Demon King anywhere. Rollins said if he wasn’t in Stephanie’s office, then the Demon King isn’t in the building because he’s looked everywhere.

Rollins said he wanted the rest of the night off, but Foley suggested Rollins go to the ring and call him out in the ring unless Rollins was scared. Rollins said he wasn’t scared. Foley then pulled out a walkie-talkie and asked the folks at Gorilla to start Rollins’ music. Funny how the attention to detail improves whenever Foley is involved.

Rollins started the third hour in the ring.

He said he had never been so insulted in his entire life. Last week, Balor talked about banshees and warriors and kings, but he couldn’t find the Demon King anywhere. Rollins said he wanted all the major news networks to listen to him. He said there was nothing and no one that could stop him from becoming the first WWE Universal Champion. He said, out of courtesy, he was going to give the Demon King one more chance to come out.

No Demon King, and Rollins chuckled and said Balor was only trying to intimidate him because Balor was scared of him. He said Balor is going to be just like everyone else who has set foot in the ring against him. Rollins said the Demon King was just another chapter in the book of Rollins, and in his story, the Demon King wouldn’t look him right in his eyes because if he did, he would see something more horrifying than anything any author could dream up.

At that point, it appeared a fan somehow got in the ring. All that aired was someone walking up to Rollins for a moment before he disappeared. They didn’t even show him being taken out by security. Rollins looked momentarily stunned and stopped his speech. Cole filled in the brief dead air before Rollins resumed.

Then the lights flickered and went out. A heartbeat sounded over the PA. Then the Demon King rose from the entrance wearing black and white makeup with Balor’s music playing. The Demon King wore tassels on his head as he stomped down to ringside to a good reaction. Smoke rose from the corner as Balor posed with his torso painted.

There was a “This is Awesome” chant. Rollins and Balor began slugging it out, and Balor gave Rollins a dropkick. Balor gave Rollins an overhead kick, then a dropkick. Balor went for the Coup de Grace, but Rollins moved. Balor gave Rollins a somersault tope instead.

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows defeated the Golden Truth (2:16)

Gallows pinned Goldust after the Magic Killer. Post-match, Kingston and Woods ran down to attack the heels. Kingston knocked out Anderson with a knee to the jaw. Woods tried to slam Francesca the Trombone onto Anderson’s groin, but Gallows pulled his partner to safety.

Dana Brooke walked up to Charlotte and apologized for losing to Banks last week. Charlotte interrupted her, then demanded to know why Brooke let her down when she needed her the most. Charlotte said she was Meryl Streep and Brooke was Anne Hathaway. After she beats Banks at SummerSlam, Charlotte said she might ask Stephanie to replace Brooke with someone who isn’t an epic failure.

Charlotte defeated Alicia Fox (1:27)

Charlotte pinned her with Natural Selection. Banks was on commentary. Post-match, Banks, who was on commentary, came to the ring. Brooke ran in to distract Banks and Charlotte decked Banks from behind. Charlotte put Banks in the Figure Eight. Banks tapped out, but Charlotte held onto the hold until a referee forced her off.

Good heat for Charlotte after this angle. There was no stretcher job for Banks to hammer home the point that she would go into Sunday’s match at less than 100%. She just laid in the ring and didn’t move.

Cole said after Banks beat Brooke last week “she got what she wanted” at SummerSlam. Didn’t Banks ask for a handicap match at SummerSlam and if she lost, she would have ended in the handicap match? The brief bit of Alicia Fox’s Titantron video that aired consisted of her pouring various drinks on herself or fans.

Roman Reigns defeated United States Champion Rusev in a non-title match (20:35)

20:35 doesn’t include the pre-match brawl, which lasted for around 5:00. Reigns sold almost the entire way. Rusev worked over Reigns’ left arm that was injured during the brawl earlier, then choked Reigns with his own singlet for a near submission. Reigns made a comeback after he blocked a superplex and hit a flying clothesline off the top rope.

Reigns got a near fall with a Blue Thunder Driver. Reigns teased the Superman Punch, but Rusev grabbed Reigns’ bad arm and hit a spin kick. Rusev hit four head butts from the second rope, each for separate two counts. He missed a fifth attempt.

After an exchange of punches, Reigns clotheslined Rusev out of the ring. Reigns went for a Superman Punch off the steps, but Rusev kicked him in the ribs. Back in the ring, Rusev charged at Reigns, who hit a Superman punch for a two count. Reigns went for a spear, but Rusev caught him with a knee and a kick for another near fall.

Rusev called for the Accolade, but Reigns escaped out the backdoor. Reigns went for the spear, but Rusev cut his legs out from under him, then put him in the Accolade, but Reigns made the ropes. Rusev ran at Reigns, who knocked Rusev out of the ring. Rusev got back in, bounced off the ropes, but Rusev hit the spear for the pin.

A very good match that resembled a fight. This was the best reception that Reigns has had since January.

WWE SmackDown live results: Ambrose & Ziggler continue the build to SummerSlam

The Big Takeaway —

Dean Ambrose laid out Dolph Ziggler to end SmackDown after the two of them defeated the Wyatt Family. This led to a big “Yes” chant, so perhaps the crowd isn’t buying Ziggler.

Alexa Bliss and Carmella officially had their debut matches and they both picked up wins.

AJ Styles and John Cena were not on the show, and Heath Slater is still without a contract.

Show Recap —

They opened with Randy Orton arriving backstage. Charly Caruso finally got her interview and asked how he’s staying focused on SummerSlam. Orton said he’s been hearing about the legend of Brock Lesnar for 15 years, but he’s the legend killer, and it only takes one RKO to get to Viperville.

Alberto Del Rio showed up said Viperville sounded like a place at Disneyland. Orton invited him there, but warned that it’s a bumpy ride. Del Rio accepted and said he’d break Orton’s arm.

Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan entered the ring as the announcers recapped what happened last week. Bray claimed he did not fall to Dolph Ziggler last week – he was a victim. He reminded us that Ziggler used the exposed steel, because that was the only way he could win. Bray said he was a God and you can never kill a God.

He told Ziggler to ask Dean Ambrose about him and what he’s capable of and said SmackDown was his show. The Wyatts don’t have corporate masters, there’s no red, no blue – it’s Bray Wyatt versus the world. This brought out Ambrose.

Ambrose said this must be a new era, because Bray is claiming to be a victim who got screwed over. He called Bray a baby and said SmackDown Live belongs to the WWE world champion. Bray challenged him to get in the ring to knock him off his podium. Ambrose admitted to doing stupid things in the past and knew this was a bad idea, but it was still tempting.

Ambrose looked like he was considering getting in the ring, but Ziggler ran out, jumped in the ring and attacked the Wyatts on his own. They double teamed him briefly until Ambrose made the save. The Wyatts had him down for a moment, but Ambrose sent Rowan out of the ring.

Bray grabbed Ambrose for Sister Abigail and Ziggler went for a superkick, but Bray moved and Ziggler nailed Ambrose instead. Ziggler superkicked Rowan, but ate a Sister Abigail and the Wyatts left. (Rowan left on his feet after a superkick, while Ambrose–who also took a superkick–was still down).

Backstage, Ambrose confronted Ziggler, saying he didn’t need Ziggler’s help and didn’t think the superkick was an accident. Ziggler said he was just getting even on the Wyatts. They wanted to fight right now, but they were interrupted by Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon, who happened to be nearby. Bryan said they would have to team together against the Wyatts tonight, and if they can’t get along, they may not even make it to SummerSlam.

American Alpha defeated Mikey O’Shea & Mike Vega via pinfall

Jordan and Gable won in about a minute with Grand Amplitude. Before the match, Ascension, the Vaudevillains, and the Hype Bros came out to watch from ringside. Afterwards, all four teams got into a brawl, which ended with Jordan and Gable standing tall. This highlighted how weak the tag division is, to say the least.

Renee Young interviewed The Miz and Maryse backstage from the Desk. Renee wanted to cut to a video for Apollo Crews, but Miz wanted to kiss Maryse. They were about to kiss in Renee’s face but she cut to the video. When they came back to the Desk, Miz and Maryse were laying on the table, staring at each other. They eventually kissed and Renee sent it back to ringside.

Becky Lynch vs. Eva Marie

Ranallo, playing it straight, said it appears Eva has recovered from her injury. Before the match could start, the straps on Eva’s top popped off and she had to hold it up with her hands. A certain portion of the crowd cheered, but they covered her up with a towel and she ran off as the crowd booed. The referee called the match off due to wardrobe malfunction.

Charly Caruso interviewed Lynch in the ring. Lynch said she shows up for a fight every week and wasn’t leaving until she got one. This brought out Alexa Bliss. Bliss said she couldn’t think of a better debut than knocking off SmackDown’s top woman draft pick. Ranallo noted that today is Bliss’ birthday.

Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch via pinfall

The match started during commercial. After the break, Bliss was in control as the crowd chanted for Becky. After a couple of minutes, Lynch made a comeback, including an Exploder. At this point, Eva’s entrance started and she came out, as her voiceover announced, “Eva Marie is now ready to compete.” The distraction allowed Bliss to knock down Lynch and hit Twisted Bliss for the win.

After the match, Eva told Caruso that she felt bad for Lynch because her knee is 100%, and would be ready to compete next week.

They showed another great moment in WWE history and it was Lesnar breaking the Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 30. (I’m always grateful that my face isn’t one of the many they always show in this replay.)

Randy Orton defeated Alberto Del Rio via DQ

JBL recalled being on SmackDown when both Orton and Lesnar debuted years ago. He mentioned fighting them both, but there’s nothing quite like the beast. The crowd chanted “RKO” as the match started.

Orton had full control before and during a break, but Del Rio hit a backstabber and launched Orton shoulder-first into the post to take control. Del Rio applied the arm bar in between the ropes, but Orton followed with a superplex while still selling his shoulder.

Orton hit a draping DDT and JBL quoted Michael Cole, calling it vintage. Ranallo reminded him that he’s on SmackDown now. Del Rio dodged an RKO and left the ring, so Orton knocked him over the barricade and cleared the announce table. Orton went after Del Rio, but Del Rio hit him with a chair for the DQ.

Del Rio hit Orton a couple of times with the chair and tossed him in the ring. Of course, as Del Rio entered the ring, Orton hit him with the RKO.

Backstage, Heath Slater approached Rhyno who was getting ready for his match. Basically, Slater wanted Rhyno to let him win, since Rhyno already has a contract. Slater has two kids and just bought a new swimming pool. Rhyno said he just won his primary in Michigan and had constituents to impress. Slater said his four kids were his constituents. Rhyno pointed out that Slater just said he had two kids, not four. Anyway, Rhyno declined to help.

They aired a segment from earlier today of Miz talking to Scooby-Doo. Scooby locked Miz in the Mystery Machine van, stole his keys, and decided to steal Miz’s Audi. They didn’t show Scooby stealing the car, though, because that would be impossible.

Rhyno defeated Heath Slater via pinfall

Slater tried to win using a schoolboy with his feet on the ropes, but the referee caught him. Rhyno hit a Gore for the win in about 3 minutes.

Backstage, Bray gave Rowan a… pep talk.

Bryan told Shane that Slater almost embodies SmackDown’s fighting spirit, even though he lost. Slater barged in, red hot that he hasn’t been signed (and mentioned having seven kids). He ranted for a while before leaving. Turns out, Bryan and Shane had a contract for him, but figured he can’t sign it now. Since the show is live, presumably one of Slater’s friends can text him and tell him to get back in there.

Carmella defeated Natalya via submission

Carmella cut another bad promo on her way to the ring. Natalya ran out to attack her, but Carmella saw it coming (as did we, since the camera was deliberately facing the stage) and cut her off. They got in the ring and the referee started the match.

Natalya dominated the match for about 4 minutes. However, she took too long to apply the Sharpshooter, and Carmella clumsily countered into the Code of Silence (headscissors) and Natalya tapped out. Ranallo put over the former NXT women having successful debuts.

Renee at the Desk talked about the feud between AJ Styles and John Cena and cut to a video package. Having Renee do this instead of the announcers is a nice touch.

They cut backstage to Baron Corbin beating up Kalisto as some people yelled at him to stop. Corbin blamed Kalisto for costing him the IC Title.

Dean Ambrose & Dolph Ziggler defeated Bray Wyatt & Erick Rowan via pinfall

They went to commercial one minute into the match. Wyatts had control of Ziggler after the break, but he was able to tag in Ambrose, who ran wild on Bray. He also gave Rowan a pescado, but ate a clothesline from Bray back in the ring.

Bray gave Ambrose a Uranage onto the edge of the ring apron, but back in the ring, Ambrose managed to hit a swinging neck breaker and tagged Ziggler. Ziggler hit Rowan with clotheslines, punches, an elbow drop and jumping DDT for two. Rowan followed with a spin kick for a near fall.

Ziggler came back with the Zig-Zag, but Bray broke up the cover. Ambrose knocked him out of the ring and went for a suicide dive, but caught the ropes and almost crashed hard. He caught just enough of Bray, who went down, but it looked bad.

Ziggler finished it off with a superkick on Rowan for the win. Ambrose jumped back in the ring and seemed to be on the same page as Ziggler, but he nailed Ziggler with the Dirty Deeds. This led to a big “Yes” chant from the crowd, which was funny.

Final Thoughts —

I thought this show was fine, but it reminded me a bit of the pre-draft SmackDown. I mentioned last week that SmackDown is very top-heavy with talent, and with AJ Styles and John Cena missing from this show, you could feel the lack of depth.

They stretched out the main event stuff with Ambrose and Ziggler as much as they could. Ambrose and Ziggler started making their entrances for the main event at about 9:42, they went to commercial, then the Wyatts came out, the match went one minute before another commercial, and by the time they came back it was 9:53. So, they managed to go at least 10 minutes without much happening.

Outside of the main event, newer acts were able to shine, particularly on the women’s side. It’s going to take time to build up the newer talent, so hopefully they can stay on track.

WWE Raw live results: Mick Foley invites Daniel Bryan to Raw

The Big Takeaway —

Finn Balor’s alterego, “The Demon King,” will be unveiled next week. Roman Reigns interrupted Rusev and Lana’s celebration of love and fought Rusev. The segment ended with Lana’s face in a wedding cake. Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho will face Enzo and Cass at SummerSlam.

Those were the only major points from a show where much of the pre-show hyped turned out to be much ado about nothing. Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan’s meeting was basically Foley getting mad that Bryan derided the name of the WWE Universal Championship. And Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs appeared on only one segment.

Show Recap —

Enzo Amore and Big Cass started the show. Enzo brought up hitting on Sasha Banks last week. Cass said she was smitten with him. Enzo quoted lyrics from Sublime. Cass compared Amore to Mike Trout, which actually got some boos. Enzo said he was on the verge of hitting a home run with Banks when Chris “Bon Jovi” Jericho robbed him.

Enzo said he and Cass were some Anaheim Angels taking a Stairway to Heaven and Jericho was on a Highway to Hell. Amore welcomed Jericho to the Jungle, “You’re going down.”

Jericho walked out and said Enzo was more irritating than “Achy Breaky Heart.” He said the only reason Amore was still on Raw was because every time Enzo made a mess, he had a 7-foot maid to clean it up for him. Jericho said Cass may be Enzo’s backup, but he had his own backup. Kevin Owens walked out with Jericho.

Jericho admitted he had Owens had problems when they first met, but Jericho talked to JimMartin Luetter in Winnipeg and Owens has his back. Jericho, sounding uncertain, asked Owens if has his back. Owens didn’t answer at first, but said he thought it was a rhetorical question and said he had Jericho’s back.

Cass wondered if they had each other’s back the same way Bert and Ernie had each other’s back washing each other’s back in a bathtub.

Owens said he used to like Cass in NXT because he could relate to him. Owens had a waste of space by his side that was doing nothing but holding him down (referring to Sami Zayn). Unlike him, Cass didn’t get rid of the dead weight and carried it with him to Raw.

Even worse, Owens had to listen to Enzo every week, so he doesn’t like Cass anymore and he didn’t care that Cass was seven foot tall, he was going to hurt him. Owens stared at Cass, seemed to reconsider, and said that if he can’t beat Cass up, then Jericho would. Jericho looked at Cass and said if Owens doesn’t want to hurt Cass, he would.

Cass challenged him to a fight. Jericho said he wasn’t talking to Cass. Cass said Jericho was looking right at him. Jericho said he was referring to the “Hip Hop Hobbit.” Jericho said Enzo should watch it. Enzo said he didn’t know what “It” was that Jericho kept talking about, but he was going to find out and shove it down Jericho’s throat.

Chris Jericho defeated Enzo Amore by DQ (11:10)

Owens interfered, grabbing Amore from behind. Jericho hit the codebreaker on Amore. Cass hit the ring and gave Jericho a big boot for the DQ. Jericho and Owens celebrated like they had just won a gold medal in the Olympics, complete with Owens mocking Amore’s “How you doin’?’ by asking “How are you?”

Post-match, Cass challenged Jericho and Owens to a tag team match at SummerSlam in Brooklyn. Owens accepted.

Mick Foley talked to an absent Stephanie McMahon on a cell phone when Sasha Banks walked up. Banks said her match with Charlotte at SummerSlam should be a handicap match because of how often Dana Brooke interferes, referring to last week’s match where Charlotte beat Banks in a tag match. She didn’t sound like she was being sarcastic.

Foley said he would book Banks vs. Brooke tonight. If Banks wins, then Brooke would be banned from ringside for the match at SummerSlam. If Brooke wins, then the match at SummerSlam would be a handicap match and the deck would be stacked against Banks.

Braun Strowman defeated Jorel Nelson (:50)

Braun Strowman used the reverse chokeslam for this week’s squash victory. Byron Saxton did a pre-match interview with Nelson asking him why he took the match against Strowman. Nelson got a blank look of fear on his face and said nothing. Saxton’s mannerisms look like Vince McMahon from the 1970s during these stand-up interviews.

Foley ran into Puff Daddy backstage. Combs mentioned the Bad Boy family was going on tour again. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods walked in. Woods congratulated Combs on being the Executive Producer of the WWE 2K17 video game.

Combs asked about Big E’s nuts. Kingston said Anderson and Gallows were like the Vanilla Ice of the tag team division. Woods alluded that Big E wasn’t there tonight.

Darren Young defeated Titus O’Neal (1:57)

After Titus O’Neal used a schoolboy cradle while holding the trunks to pin Darren Young last week, Young used a schoolboy cradle while holding the trunks to pin O’Neal this week. Young looked like he got caught by a knee to the face in the match’s opening spot.  Bob Backlund was with Young and went wild again after the win.

Rollins came out for the 9:00 PM promo. He said the new era of the WWE is upon us and he must admit he’s learned a thing or two. Case in point, Finn Balor. He followed Balor’s career for a long time and figured Balor was a second-rate version of himself.

He said Balor was Jared Leto to his Heath Ledger. But after Balor kicked him in the head last week, he was forced to reevaluate his thoughts about Balor.

Rollins said everyone knew Balor was athletic, agile, and a lethal striker, but he was no normal man. Rollins said Balor wasn’t even his real name. He said Finn Balor was an Irish mythology name. Finn meant “Irish warrior” and Balor meant “Demon King.”

Rollins laughed and said that would be like calling himself Rambo Apocalypse. Rollins said Balor is one of the most disrespectful human beings he’s ever encountered because Raw was his show and this was his ring. Yet Balor had the arrogance to get in his face last week and say he was going to beat him for the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

Rollins said of all the people Balor has beaten, he hasn’t beaten Rollins. Rollins was furious that Balor said his chance at the Universal Championship was handed to him. He brought up overcoming his knee injury. Rollins said he knew his place in the WWE: the very top.

Rollins said he didn’t need to surround himself with smoke and mirrors, myths and legends. He knows who he is and what he’s capable of. He is the myth, he is the legend, and he is the man.

In 200 years, when parents sit around the fireplace with their kids, they’re going to tell stories about how Rollins rode in on his white horse and crushed the face of the man who runs the place. Parents would tell stories of Rollins conquering the Roman Empire (which got cheers, one of the first things in this interview that got a reaction).

Cesaro defeated Sheamus (10:57)

Cesaro won after a ref bump. The referee nearly got sandwiched in the corner after an Irish Whip. With the referee standing between them, Sheamus landed a punch on Cesaro, but the referee went down. Sheamus had the pin with a schoolboy cradle, but no ref.

As Sheamus got up to revive the ref, Cesaro used his own schoolboy cradle to win. Had the same finish in the previous match. This was a rematch from last week. If you’ll recall, Foley told the winner of last week’s match they would get a title shot. That was never mentioned this week. Instead, they claimed Foley ordered a rematch because there wasn’t a decisive winner last week, even though Cesaro won with his finisher.

A series of near falls about 8:00 in got the fans involved. Cesaro threw a dropkick on Sheamus where he was standing on the top rope. Near falls for Sheamus after the Irish Curse and White Noise. Solid match.

They aired a video package building up Lesnar/Orton. They aired footage of Lesnar winning the NCAA Heavyweight Championship at Minnesota on ESPN. That led to footage from Ohio Valley Wrestling with the voice of Jim Cornette included.

Orton talked about how Lesnar left the WWE in 2004 because he didn’t like people, which pissed Orton off. Lesnar did a promo saying that he didn’t care what Orton thought of him, how Orton was just another guy just like the rest of the guys in the locker room. Paul Heyman said Orton was the best surfer on the beach. He can surf better than anyone but he forgets about the shark waiting to eat him up.

Orton said he was going to kill the legend of Lesnar and this was the biggest match in SummerSlam history.

Lesnar will be on Raw next week.

Neville & Sin Cara defeated the Dudley Boyz (5:19)

Neville pinned D-Von Dudley with the Red Arrow. Bubba Ray Dudley accidentally clotheslined D-Von, which led to the finish. This match was set up during the pregame show when the Dudleyz bullied Neville around during an interview and ordered him to go find a partner. Bubba did some facial expressions like he was pissed at D-Von after the loss.

Rusev and Lana had their celebration of love in honor of getting married last week. Lana came out in her wedding dress. There were several wedding cakes (you know where this is headed), a bottle of champagne, and a bouquet of flowers in the ring.

Lana said she was Rusev’s princess, and when you marry a princess, you’re supposed to give her a wedding of her dreams. Lana said none of the fans could attend because it was VIP only. Fans started chanting “What” and Rusev laughed at them.

Lana said they would reenact their special day for everyone. Rusev said Lana was beautiful and she was all his. She kissed his bicep. Lana introduced a video of the wedding, which was really a slideshow of Lana and Rusev on a beach and various photos.

Crowd chanted “boring.” Rusev acted like they chanted “More” but said they had no more portraits. Lana said the fans couldn’t afford a one-bedroom apartment, much less a beach. She talked about her custom-made dress made by a Russian designer. Rusev brought up the cakes which cost more than any of the fans make in a month.

Lana said they wrote their own vows and they would relive their special moment. Many heads turned to the back waiting for Roman Reigns to come out. Lana ordered fans to pull out their cell phones to take pictures of this moment. Almost no one did. Reigns finally came out. He still got a mixed reaction even after being demoted.

Reigns said he wasn’t there to fight Rusev, he was in the back watching the video and noticed that Rusev didn’t have a best man. So Reigns figured he needed to step up and be the best man. So he said he should pour drinks and toast them. Rusev refused. So Reigns challenged Rusev to a match for the U.S. Championship at SummerSlam.

Rusev declined that, as well. Reigns said then Rusev would have to hear his toast. Reigns poured some champagne, guzzled it, and thanked them because he had never seen a wedding between a Bulgarian Sasquatch and a mail order bride.

Reigns said he was disappointed in Rusev, he was expecting more, just like Lana was expecting more on her wedding night.

Rusev jumped Reigns and they brawled. Rusev put the fists to Reigns. But Reigns rose up and hit Rusev with an uppercut, Rusev bumped into Lana, who took the predictable face-first bump into the wedding cake. Reigns walked out. Lana did a great job getting the cake everywhere on her.

Backstage, Rusev screamed at Foley as Lana stood covered in icing. Rusev demanded that Foley do something. So Foley ordered Rusev to face Reigns for the U.S. Championship at SummerSlam.

WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defeated Dana Brooke in a non-title match, so Banks vs. Charlotte will be an one-on-one match at SummerSlam (2:41)

A collection of mistimed spots, the worst of all at the finish. Charlotte was supposed to accidentally slap Brooke while aiming for Banks. The problem was Charlotte was slow on the trigger. By the time Banks moved, Charlotte hadn’t even started her motion yet. It looked like Charlotte slapped Brooke on purpose when that wasn’t the case.

Banks won with the double knees to the gut off the second rope.

Balor did a pre-taped interview with eerie music playing in the background and smoke hovering around him. Balor said what Rollins called disrespect, he calls honest. What Rollins calls arrogance, he calls confidence. What Rollins calls ignorance, he calls irony.

Balor brought up various myths and Finn MacCool, a giant who threw a piece of land into the sea and created the Isle of Man. He brought up the Banshee, whose wails signaled the end. And the King of the Demons, Balor. When Balor’s evil eye opens, the world ends. First the grass burns, then the seas boil, then the air catches fire and all of humanity falls.

Balor said these aren’t just stories, these are sources of power. When a warrior enters a great battle, when he knows his limbs and flesh aren’t enough, he can tap into the stories and become a man greater them himself. Rollins has never seen a demon like him, and at SummerSlam, Rollins will see the Demon King.

Then the camera zoomed in on Balor’s eyes, which transformed into black makeup like Gene Simmons’ makeup. Much better interview presentation for Balor here.

Later on, it was announced that Rollins would call out the Demon King next week.

Anderson and Gallows did a comedy promo where they stood in white robes proclaiming themselves doctors. They said some tag teams in the WWE are suffering from “Ringpostitis.” They showed repeated highlights of Big E’s crotch getting rammed into the post last week.

They had various double entendres about testicles as Anderson said Kingston could suffer from ringpostitis later tonight.

Luke Gallows defeated Kofi Kingston (1:31)

Gallows won with the Festus Flip, which is a Fireman’s Carry into a flap jack. Same move that Tama Tonga uses. Anderson tried to interfere, but Woods stopped him. However, Anderson threw Woods into the post. Post-match, Gallows and Anderson tried to give Kingston ringpostitis, but Woods sent the heels scrambling with a chair.

Foley did an interview and said he lived by a philosophy “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and an ear for an ear.” But that was a rule of thumb that was archaic and against goodwill. He brought out Daniel Bryan for the big reaction.

Bryan said it pains him to say it, but Foley has been doing an excellent job as the Raw GM. Foley put over Bryan’s work on SmackDown and his work with Mauro Ranallo during the Cruiserweight Classic. Fans chanted “Yes” as the two proceeded with the script.

Foley apologized for Lesnar’s actions on SmackDown laying out Orton. Bryan said Foley didn’t have to apologize because SmackDown fired the first shot since Orton gave Lesnar an RKO on Raw last week. The two dropped the good nature when Foley showed a video where Bryan joked about the name of the Universal Championship.

Rusev came out and said Raw doesn’t need another champion, it has a champion and it was him. Rusev said the next time a SmackDown wrestler showed up on Raw, he was going to crush him in honor of the great Raw GM, Foley. Bryan wondered if Rusev was trying to kiss up to Foley in order to get out of his match with Reigns.

Cesaro came out and said Rusev was having a bad night and he had an idea to make it worse. Foley said he could earn a championship opportunity and he’s proven the last two weeks he deserves one.

Foley said Sheamus did almost have Cesaro beat. Cesaro thought Foley was a man of his word. Bryan butted in and said he thought Cesaro was being underutilized on Raw. Foley stopped Bryan and ordered an immediate U.S. Championship match between Cesaro and Rusev.

United States Champion Rusev defeated Cesaro to retain his title (9:36)

Rusev won after Sheamus interfered. Rusev hit a thrust kick after Sheamus gave Cesaro a Brogue Kick. Cesaro had a 5-rep Giant Swing that turned into a Sharpshooter. At that point, Sheamus ran down. Cesaro went after Sheamus, allowing Rusev to hit a thrust kick. Cesaro kicked out. Crowd was dying for a title switch at this point.

Rusev went for the Accolade, but Cesaro escaped and pushed Rusev into the referee, who also collided with Sheamus. Cesaro hit the Gotch Neutralizer, and had him pinned, but there was no ref. Earlier, the crowd popped when Rusev escaped the Accolade by hitting the Electric Chair.

Post-match, Reigns ran out and gave Rusev a spear on the floor.
