AEW Collision live results: Daniel Garcia vs. Lee Moriarty TNT title match

For the second straight week, the TNT title will be on the line as Daniel Garcia defends against Ring of Honor Pure Champion Lee Moriarty on tonight’s AEW Collision from Sacramento, California — the go-home for Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view from Los Angeles, California.

Garcia went to a no contest with Adam Cole last Saturday as Moriarty and The Infantry jumped both men with just a few minutes remaining. The Infantry may pay the price for their interference as they take on Cole’s friends Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong tonight.

Mercedes Mone will be on commentary as her Revolution TBS title challenger Momo Watanabe will go one-on-one with Serena Deeb.

Before they challenge for the AEW Tag Team titles, The Outrunners will take on Tony Nese & Ari Daivari.

The Opps (Samoa Joe, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata) look to remain undefeated as they face Starboy Charlie, Jack Banning & Titus Alexander.

Hologram vs. Dralistico and the ever-popular Harley Cameron vs. Tatevik round out the card.

**********

Tonight’s Collision is the go-home show for AEW Revolution, and it is coming to us live (to tape) from Sacramento, California. Tony Schiavone & Nigel McGuinness were on the call as always.

The Opps (Hook, Katsuyori Shibata & Samoa Joe) defeated Jack Banning, Starboy Charlie & Titus Alexander

Starboy Charlie & Titus Alexander have spent time in Pro Wrestling NOAH recently. Unfortunately, that time in Japan didn’t help them here, as The Opps wrung them out in short order. Poor Tony Schiavone got put on the spot to try and explain what Opps mean. I wouldn’t call that Schiavone’s area of expertise. For those who don’t know, an “opp” is your opposition, basically someone in competition against you. Shibata scored the fall with the Penalty Kick.

Cope was backstage, one night ahead of his AEW World Title match against Jon Moxley. Cope recapped the feud to this point before realizing that Moxley was a coward and a false messiah, only having control over the Death Riders because he’s the World Champion. Cope wanted the Jon Moxley who set the wrestling world on fire when he came into AEW, not the coward he stands in front of now. Cope had been in hundreds of World Title matches and knew this could be his last chance, but there was no expiry on heart or grit. He was going to make this shot count because he had to.

(A solid go-home promo, with Cope putting over his need to win the title on Sunday.)

TBS Champion Mercedes Mone came to the commentary desk with all of her title belts to scout her opponent at Revolution.

Momo Watanabe defeated Serena Deeb

This was a fine showcase of Watanabe’s hard strikes, as well as making sure the fans know what her finisher is ahead of her title challenge.

Tony Schiavone brought up the match from NJPW Capital Collision last year between Mone & Watanabe, wondering if Watanabe used her International Women’s Cup win to get a measure of revenge on Mone. Deeb won the opening exchange, locking Watanabe in a seated surfboard to Mone’s delight. Watanabe came back with a dropkick to a charging Deeb before scoring with a hesitation dropkick in the corner.

Watanabe landed a few heavy mid kicks before Deeb caught her leg and hit a Dragon Screw. Deeb worked on Watanabe’s leg throughout the commercial break before Watanabe drilled Deeb with a heavy kick. Watanabe landed the Three Amigos, pointing at Mone after the second, before landing a penalty kick for a nearfall.

Deeb locked Watanabe in the Octopus Stretch, but Watanabe escaped and dropped Deeb with a suplex for a nearfall. Billie Starkz was watching from backstage. They traded waistlocks before Deeb scored with a German suplex, and a hammerlock lariat got her a nearfall. Watanabe came back with a running Meteora for a nearfall, but Deeb countered the B Driver into a single leg crab. Watanabe fought out, hit a head kick, then landed the Peach Sunrise suplex for the win.

After the match, Mone got in the ring and piefaced Watanabe with the TBS Title. Watanabe responded with a head kick before dropping Mone with the Meteora. Watanabe stood tall with the TBS Title to end the segment.

We got a recap of the Don Callis Family beatdown of Will Ospreay after his match on Dynamite. In footage from after Dynamite, Will Ospreay said that the pain he felt physically didn’t match the pain he felt mentally. He was spent physically and emotionally ahead of a match he’s never participated in against a man who he cared about. He wore a United Empire armband that he found in his bag in the hopes that Kyle Fletcher would come to his senses seeing that symbol of brotherhood they shared. That wasn’t the case, and a year after Fletcher welcomed Ospreay into AEW, they would be locked in a cage. He still loved Fletcher, but he had to fight, and he would take every knife Fletcher put in his back and cut him with it.

(I can’t do Ospreay promos justice, as he was great here. He got across that he still cared for Fletcher but wouldn’t hesitate in the cage.)

Harley Cameron defeated Tatevik

Tatevik jumped Cameron before the bell and beat her down as the crowd chanted Feel The Wrath. Cameron fought back and landed Her Finishing Move for the win.

Kyle Fletcher was backstage. He said that his favorite thing in the world was dropping people on their heads, and the only things that made it sweeter was looking like he did and doing it to Will Ospreay. Ospreay thought that Fletcher was a stepping stone to the World Title, but Ospreay was the one in the way. He took the United Empire armband off of Ospreay’s arm on Wednesday, as that group was only a vehicle for Ospreay’s ego. The crowd could chant his name all they wanted, but he would paint the canvas with Ospreay’s blood and repay all of the pain Ospreay caused tenfold.

(A quality promo from Fletcher here, as the cage match might be my most anticipated match of the wildly stacked Revolution show.)

The Undisputed Kingdom (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) defeated The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean) (w/ Shane Taylor)

This follow-up from last week just makes it feel like they didn’t want to beat either Daniel Garcia or Adam Cole last week, so they sent in Shane Taylor Promotions to get out of it. It doesn’t feel like that group is in line for any kind of strong push.

Bravo & Strong started, with Strong answering Bravo’s trash talk with a big chop. O’Reilly got driven into the Infantry corner and clubbered on. O’Reilly ducked a corner charge and sent Bravo to the floor before tagging in Strong, who ran wild with backbreakers and dumped Bravo onto Dean as we went to commercial.

Back from the break, Bravo and Dean laid out Strong with a scissor kick into a frog splash for a nearfall. Strong made the tag out to O’Reilly, who ran hot and sent Dean to the floor with the axe and smash strikes. He caught Bravo in a guillotine choke, with Dean making the save by clawing at O’Reilly’s eyes. Strong tagged in and cleared Dean out before hitting the Total Elimination for the win.

Konosuke Takeshita & Don Callis were backstage. Callis refused to allow Kenny Omega to interrupt the ride they were on, and proclaimed Takeshita as the new God of Pro Wrestling. Callis asked how long before Omega’s guts exploded again, and promised that Takeshita wouldn’t just beat Omega again, but would end him.

We got a video of Chris Jericho giving Bryan Keith & Big Bill an ultimatum to step up and start getting the job done. We got footage of The Learning Tree laying out Bandido & his brother Gravity on Ring of Honor this past week. Bandido challenged the Learning Tree to fight them like men before Gravity challenged Jericho to a singles match at Revolution to Bandido’s surprise.

(Gravity vs. Chris Jericho? Alrighty then.)

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley was backstage. He said that himself and Cope were the last of a dying breed, people who were willing to fight for the impossible fantasy that was being a World Champion professional wrestler. They would sacrifice everything for one last chance to play the game. Moxley wanted to respect Cope, but he didn’t get what he was about. He promised to get his hands around Cope’s busted neck and show him the mercy that Cope showed the Death Riders. When Cope hears the sound of his spinal cord cracking, he will know what respect feels like.

(A good promo from Mox. The turnaround this Mox/Cope feud has had in the last few weeks has been remarkable, feeling much hotter now that it’s time to put the money down.)

Hologram defeated Dralistico

Hologram is quickly becoming must-see TV, as his matches continue to impress. LFI getting some heat on them after the match and going for the masks seems like it would set up a mask match, but if I had a dollar for every teased mask match that never happened, I’d be a rich man.

These two started fast before Dralistico hammered Hologram with a chop. Dralistico went after Hologram’s mask, but Hologram sent Dralistico to the floor and hit a torpedo dive. Dralistico cut off another dive with a springboard headscissors before launching over the top rope to Hologram on the floor. Dralistico pinballed Hologram around the ringside barricades before hitting a springboard senton for a nearfall. Dralistico hit a thrust kick in the corner and posed as we went to commercial.

Back from the break, Hologram slid to the floor on an Irish Whip and caught Dralistico with a Spanish Fly on the floor. The two men traded chops and strikes on the apron before Dralistico sent Hologram to the floor with a Frankensteiner. The two got in a forearm battle on the floor but dove in the ring on the count of nine to avoid the countout. Dralistico scored with a springboard Codebreaker for a nearfall.

Hologram came back with a pair of kicks and a sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall. The two traded big moves in the ring before Hologram evaded Dralistico in the corner. Dralistico caught Hologram with a springboard destroyer, but had the count nullified when he tried to pin Hologram with his feet on the ropes. Hologram came back with the Portal Bomb for the win.

After the match, The Beast Mortos attacked Hologram and went for the mask before Komander made the save. Komander went to dive on Dralistico, but Dralistico pulled Alex Abrahantes in the way. Mortos dropped Komander and Dralistico sent Abrahantes into the barricade to stand tall.

FTR & Daniel Garcia met with The Undisputed Kingdom backstage. Cash Wheeler said that they didn’t present themselves well last week, but Dax Harwood didn’t apologize and said that his only mistake was stooging himself off to the referee. O’Reilly and Strong challenged FTR to a rematch on Collision next week, which was accepted. Adam Cole stopped Garcia from leaving and said that Garcia knew he deserved a rematch, but he would have to see if Garcia retained tonight to get that rematch. Garcia blew Cole off, saying he had a title to defend.

(It’s good to see the Garcia/Cole deal isn’t done yet, as their match last week was very good.)

Lexy Nair’s guests at this time were The Hurt Syndicate. MVP cut off Nair’s question about The Outrunners, saying that while they were entertaining, the Hurt Syndicate were about a different type of entertainment. The crowd was chanting We Hurt People in the background as MVP said the Outrunners were underdogs while Lashley & Benjamin were the top dogs. They would put the underdogs down at Revolution because they hurt people.

(It was very funny seeing MVP try to get heat as the crowd did their chant. The Hurt Syndicate really ought to be babyfaces, as they are one of the most popular acts in the promotion right now. Don’t fight the tide.)

The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd) defeated The Premier Athletes (Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese) (w/Mark Sterling)

The Hurt Syndicate are going to kill the Outrunners, and I will enjoy every second of it. Don’t fight the tide, Hurt Syndicate is red hot right now.

FTR vs. Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong was official for next week. The Outrunners cleared the ring before the commercial break, even with Sterling slapping Magnum as the referee was distracted. Chris Jericho vs. Gravity for the ROH World Title was made official for the Zero Hour as we came back from the break. Daivari hit a big splash for a nearfall.

The Outrunners ran wild and were loaded up for Total Recall, but The Hurt Syndicate came out for a distraction. The Athletes got a short bit of offense in before the Outrunners came back and finished Total Recall for the win. The champions and challengers stared each other down.

Toni Storm was on the red carpet for the Queen of the Ring premiere when Mariah May laid her out with a punch before getting dragged away by ex-Vice Principal Christopher Daniels.

We got a rundown of the Revolution card, leading to a hype video for MJF vs. Hangman Page. Any Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 players will get a flash of nostalgia at the use of Bullet With A Name by Nonpoint in this video package.

We got dueling promos from MxM Collection & The Conglomeration to hype the Zero Hour match. The Murder Machines were with MxM Collection, having wrestled Cassidy & Briscoe on Dynamite. They were confused by the whole situation.

AEW TNT Title Match – Daniel Garcia (c) defeated Lee Moriarty

Another quality defense for Garcia, as the crowd got into this match with Moriarty despite Moriarty’s lacking record on AEW TV. I’m glad this deal with Garcia, The Kingdom and Shane Taylor Promotions is getting a blowoff at the PPV, even if it’s the Zero Hour, as it makes these last few weeks of TV angles feel like they mattered a bit more.

Matt Menard was on the call in support of Garcia, as always. The two technicians started on the mat, with former Pure Champion Garcia winning the exchange. Moriarty snuck in a cheap shot on a rope break, but Garcia came back with a running boot. Moriarty dropped Garcia on the turnbuckle as he was laying in the ten punches, but Garcia came back with a big dropkick against the barricade.

After a commercial, Moriarty had Garcia in an abdominal stretch that forced the TNT Champion into the ropes. Moriarty focused on Garcia’s midsection before Garcia caught him with a flash pin for a nearfall. Moriarty came back with a crossbody for a nearfall, but Garcia scored with a suplex to get a second of reprieve. Garcia laid in with punches before landing a dropkick and firing up. He hit the ten punches and the Twist N’ Shout neckbreaker for a nearfall.

Garcia landed a high angle Backdrop Driver before bringing Moriarty all the way up and all the way down with a superplex. Garcia tried to score with a piledriver, but his bad arm allowed Moriarty to score with a flip slam for a nearfall. Garcia roared back with a lariat. Moriarty countered a piledriver with a jackknife pin, starting a pinning predicament that ended with both men dropping each other with clotheslines.

Champion and challenger traded strikes before Moriarty dragged Garcia into the Border City Stretch. Garcia transitioned into the Dragon Tamer, but Moriarty clawed at Garcia’s eyes to get him back in the Border City Stretch. Moriarty rolled to the middle of the ring, but Garcia finally got Moriarty up in the piledriver and scored with it to get the win and his sixth defense.

After the match, Shane Taylor Promotions circled Garcia before The Undisputed Kingdom chased them off. An eight-man tag was signed for the Revolution Zero Hour, as it would be Daniel Garcia, Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, & Kyle O’Reilly vs. all four members of Shane Taylor Promotions.

(An interesting wrinkle added here, with Omega teasing Callis throwing Takeshita to the side if he doesn’t deliver at Revolution. I wouldn’t be opposed to Takeshita being a babyface again, as Kyle Fletcher feels like the crown jewel of the unit now.)

TNT title defense, Momo Watanabe match part of AEW Collision lineup

Image: AEW

Daniel Garcia will look to keep his TNT title reign intact as he defends the title as part of this Saturday’s AEW Collision lineup — the go-home show for Sunday’s Revolution.

After going to a no contest with Adam Cole last Saturday, Garcia will defend against reigning Ring of Honor Pure Champion Lee Moriarty whose title will not be on the line. It will be Garcia’s sixth title defense and the third time he has faced Moriarty in AEW history. He has yet to lose to him.

Before she challenges TBS Champion Mercedes Mone at Revolution, Momo Watanabe will take on Serena Deeb with Mone on commentary. It will be Watanabe’s first AEW TV match and first match in an AEW ring since last summer’s Forbidden Door.

Harley Cameron will look to win her second straight as she will be in action against an opponent to be named.

Hologram will look to remain undefeated since making his return as he faces Dralistico.

Here’s the current lineup for Saturday that is being taped Wednesday after Dynamite:

  • TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defends against Lee Moriarty
  • Moto Watanabe vs. Serena Deeb
  • Hologram vs. Dralistico
  • Harley Cameron in action

AEW/ROH Global Wars matches announced for Australia debut

For the first time in years, Global Wars has returned to Ring of Honor as part of AEW’s first-ever visit to Australia this Saturday.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will defend against Alex Windsor as part of what is being called AEW/ROH Global Wars. It’s the first time that term has been referenced for the Brisbane show, done to distinguish it from the Grand Slam Australia portion being taped for TNT and Max.

Where these matches will be seen was not announced with ROH’s weekly HonorClub show as a strong possibility.

Athena has held the title for nearly 800 days while the UK native Windsor has competed in AEW twice, last seen being defeated by Toni Storm last June. This will be her first ROH singles match.

Reigning ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will defend against native son Robbie Eagles. Moriarty has held the title for over 200 days with four title defenses. It will be his first time he has faced the NJPW regular who competed in ROH last July. He has unsuccessfully challenged for both the ROH World and men’s TV title in the past.

In another match, ROH World Champion Chris Jericho will team with Bryan Keith & Big Bill against former champion Bandido & The Outrunners. Since returning in late-December, Bandido has targeted Jericho and defeated Keith last Saturday in his first post-injury televised match in nearly 18 months.

A fourth match will see ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara put the titles on the line against MxM Collection.

Global Wars, formerly Border Wars, was a series of shows between ROH and NJPW which began in 2012 and ended in the fall of 2019.

Here’s the current lineup for this Saturday:

Grand Slam Australia (TNT/Max following NBA All-Star Weekend activities) —

  • Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher
  • AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada defends against Buddy Matthews
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May defends against Toni Storm
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Harley Cameron
  • Jay White & Cope vs. Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli in a Brisbane Brawl

AEW/ROH Global Wars (broadcast options TBA) —

  • Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Bryan Keith vs. Bandido & The Outrunners (Truth Magnum & Turbo Floyd)
  • ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty defends against Robbie Eagles
  • ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defends against Alex Windsor
  • ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara defend against MxM Collection (Mansoor & Madden)

Nigel McGuiness makes surprise appearance, wrestles Lee Moriarty at ROH Final Battle

Nigel McGuiness came close to becoming ROH Pure Champion once again.

The former World Champion made a surprise appearance on Friday’s ROH Final Battle event at the Hammerstein Ballroom, challenging Lee Moriarty for the Pure Championship he had previously held for 355 days. After using all of their rope breaks, Moriarty ended up getting the submission victory over McGuiness after applying a crossface and using the bottom rope for leverage.

Moriarty’s match for Final Battle had been promoted as a Pure title match against a mystery challenger. After McGuiness made his entrance, he challenged Moriarty to a match under the old ROH Pure title rules, which includes no judges. After some back and forth between McGuiness and Shane Taylor, the rule changes were agreed to.

After retiring from in-ring competition in 2011, McGuiness made his return as a wrestler at AEW All In back in August, competing in the Casino Gauntlet match. He made an additional appearance at Grand Slam in September, where he lost to Bryan Danielson.

Lee Moriarty issues Pure title open challenge for ROH Final Battle

The lineup for ROH Final Battle 2024 continued to take shape on Saturday night.

During the taped episode of AEW Collision: Winter is Coming on TNT on December 14, it was announced by the commentary team of Tony Schiavone, Excalibur and Matt Menard that the ROH Pure Championship will be on the line at the upcoming year-end ROH Wrestling pay-per-view event. A graphic was shown that Lee Moriarty had issued an open challenge to “anybody” for his ROH Pure title on December 20.

“Open Challenge! Ready for any and every style of wrestler that might step up,” Moriarty wrote via X after the announcement was made. “Let’s keep pushing the Pure Division forward.”

The lineup also features the return of Madison Rayne, Toa Liona vs. Lee Johnson, and The Outrunners vs. Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari.

**********

It’s the penultimate show before Final Battle 2024 on December 20th! That said, there’s still an awful lot of room on the card (only three matches announced so far), so let’s see if tonights ROH on HonorClub can fill in some blanks. So it made total sense that the show started with a Qualifying match for a non-ROH Tournament!

Wrestle Dynasty International Women’s Cup qualifier: Athena defeated Red Velvet, Billie Starkz and Leyla Hirsch

It started with a promo from Billie Starkz that was quickly interrupted by the ROH Women’s Champion, Athena who turned it into a MeM. She asked Starkz for an apology for her behaviour the last few weeks, oh, and also to lay down for Athena so she can win their 4-way International Women’s Cup qualifier. Starkz protested, but Athena reminded her that she owed her and danced away. Hirsch and Velvet, slated to meet at Final Battle for Velvet’s ROH Women’s TV Title, glared at each other.

Starkz didn’t offer up a Code of Honor to Athena off the top and Athena (after telling the other women they suck) left the ring and did jumping jacks to let the other three fight. In said fight, Starkz sent Velvet to the outside and kicked the much shorter Hirsch in the face. Velvet returned with a high crossbody onto Starkz and Hirsh. Athena then threw Velvet into the barricades.

From there, the match went back and forth until everyone put everyone else into a submission lock. They all got tired at the same time and let go though. Starkz began cleaning house, executing a triple swan dive and got back-to-back two counts. She stared at a prone Athena, but did not try and pin her. Athena then used Hirsch as a spingboard to hit a hurricanrana on Starkz.

Velvet and Hirsch tried to hit a suplex off the top rope on Athena, but Starkz ran in and TRIPLE superplexed them. Starkz had Hirsch pinned, but Athena broke up the count. The two argued and Athena commanded Starkz to lie down. Before she could though, Velvet knocked both to the outside where Hirsch double clotheslined them.

Hirsch and Velvet gave us a Final Battle preview, going one-on-one while Starkz and Athena recovered. Hirsch seemed to get the better of Velvet, but before a pin could be made, Starkz jumped in and tossed Hirsch out. Athena then shoved Starkz out of the ring and pinned a stunned Velvet to win the match and advance in the tournament.

The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum) defeated Premier Atheletes Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari (W/Josh Woods and Mark Sterling)

The Outrunners are everyone’s favourite throwback tag team and have quickly moved into prime positions in the AEW Tag Hierarchy.  The Premier Athletes want everyone to say they “rule” instead of “suck” when cued. This match marks the return of Tony Nese who’s been off TV relentlessly celebrating the birth of his twins. The Athletes entered to Sterling’s usual rap and the Outrunners entered to a huge pop from the audience.

Nese and Magnum started things off with a quick posedown (Magnum won) and Nese cheap shotted him to get him isolated in the corner. Magnum fought out and tagged in Floyd who Atomic Dropped Nese. Diavari jumped in and got a double atomic drop for his trouble.

Later, Daivari and Nese double teamed Magnum and tossed him to the outside for Sterling and Woods to stomp on. Nese pulled them back into the ring and then missed corner shots, allowing Magnum to fight his way to a hot tag to Floyd. Floyd exploded into the ring, slamming Daivari and Nese in quick succession.

At this point, Magnum fell with Daivari on his shoulder, causing a brief pause in the action while his knee was checked. Nese hit a pumphandle driver on Floyd that got a two count. A few pie-faces later and Floyd was Turbo-Charged and fought off both Daivari and Nese and Magnum joined him to deliver a double elbow and Total Recall to get the win.

-Dustin Rhodes joined us from the back to speak about the Righteous. Rhodes says there’s no quit in him or his family, so they can play their little mind games, but it wont get them the ROH Tag Titles. He called out Dutch specifically and the Bull Rope that Dusty gave him. Rhodes said that even though Dutch knew his father, he never understood him. Dutch has crossed the line and at Final Battle, it will be a double Bull Rope match!

Madison Rayne defeated Allysin Kay

Rayne, best known for her run in TNA as a 3-time Knockouts Champion, had her last ROH match way, way back on ROH on HonorClub episode 25, in which she picked up a win over Dani Mo. Since then, she’s been working behind the scenes as a producer and this match would be her big return to action. Kay, the definition of “journeywoman” has wrestled for over SEVENTY different promotions in her career. Her most recent ROH match was a Proving Ground match against ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet a few weeks back.

These two veterans were pretty much guaranteed to have an awesome match, and it absolutely was. Kay had the strength advantage on Rayne, but there was no ring rust there. Both women traded shots and holds, looking for the other one to make a mistake somewhere.

Rayne hit a hurricanrana from the top rope, and then a crucifix driver on Kay to get the pin and win the match. Super fun!

-Next, The Dark Order joined us in the back. Last week, the Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV) harassed an extra they felt shouldn’t have gotten lunch before they did. The Dark Order’s John Silver saw this and wasn’t impressed, so he stole their scarves, which he and Evil Uno and Alex Reynolds had a good laugh about. So this week, Silver and Raynolds did a hilarious(?) impression of of GYV. The Veterans saw what was going down and stormed over. Reynolds and Silver fought back, but Uno stepped in the middle and glared at his Dark Order buddies, as if disappointed in their antics.

Toa Liona defeated Lee Johnson

Last week, Liona and his Gates of Agony partner, Bishop Kaun picked up a win over Griff Garrison and Preston Vance. This week, Liona looks to go at it alone against Ring of Honor super-worker, Lee Johnson. Johnson (who has a gigantic tag partner of his own in EJ Nduka) has fared pretty well in singles matches in 2024 (11 wins, 4 losses) but has failed to put any kind of gold around his waist.

This match had a fast start with Liona’s strength and Johnson’s speed keeping them even as they ran through a bunch of quick moves and holds. Johnson made the fatal mistake of trying to chop Liona, which as you can imagine only made him madder. Johnson tried kicks and knees, but Liona took them all.

Johnson went high for a frog splash, but Liona kicked out at two. Johnson popped up looking for the Big Shot Drop, but Liona powered out of it, smashing Johnson with a top rope sit-down drop for the pin.

After the match, Liona tried to pick up Johnson, but the two started fighting. Liona hit a big kick on Johnson and that brought out the very large EJ Nduka. The two big men stared each other down until Lion left and Nduka helped Johnson to his feet.

NJPW Strong Tag Team Champions Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) defeated MxM Collection (Mansoor & Madden)

So as mentioned above the Veterans have been beefing with the Dark Order (specifically Reynolds and Silver, after Silver stole their scarves) and had an altercation with them earlier in the evening. Which led directly to this NJPW Strong Tag Team Championship match against… (checks notes) MxM Collective for some reason. Also Johnny TV was there.

With all that out of the way, tips were touched and Gibson started off against Mansoor. Drake jumped in, but Mansoor reversed it into a double neckbreaker. That brought the tag to Madden who dominated the legal man, Drake. Madden tried to forcibly make Drake touch tips (I do not like that sentence) and Drake caught a flurry of offense.

Mansoor found himself isolated in the GYV corner with Gibson and Drake wailing on him. He tried a long-distance tip-touch to bring in Madden, but no dice as Drake and Gibson started a brawl. They eliminated Madden and then hit a high splash on Mansoor for a two-count.

Madden hit the ring and took out both Drake and Gibson with side kicks and slams. Mansoor tagged in and Gibson tossed Madden into the stairs on the outside. That left Mansoor alone against Drake and to be choked with a scarf by Gibson behind the ref’s back. GYV finished Mansoor off and retained their titles.

Also, Johnny TV was there.

-Backstage, Board of Director Member Paul Wight joined us from the back to announce that Jay Lethal will be coming back to ROH at Final Battle! Lethal, anxious to get into the title picture, asked who his opponent would be, but before Wight could answer, QT Marshall arrived. He lamented the idea that Lethal might get a title shot before he does. The two fought and Wight made the match for Final Battle: Jay Lethal vs QT Marshall!

ROH Classic Match: Shane Taylor vs Kenny King in a Fight Without Honor (Final Battle 2021, Baltimore, Maryland)

What can I say about this match? It’s two very violent men doing violence to each other and doing it very well. Ladders, tables, trash cans, Kendo sticks, all used and destroyed in the first FEW MINUTES of this match. Super fun and worth a watch!

ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara defeated Eric Dillinger & Josh Crane

Rhodes and Guevara have been ROH Tag champions since Mid-August, when they took the titles from the Undisputed Kingdom. From there, they’ve had a handful of title defenses, a Bunkhouse Brawl and a bunch of multi-team/person matches. As mentioned earlier, they’ve currently got The Righteous waiting for them at Final Battle and possibly somewhere in the arena tonight.  As for their opponents, I couldn’t find anything on Crane, but Dillinger is the Asylum Wrestling Revolution (AWR) Champion and has been since 2022!

Crane and Guevara started things off, but Rhodes and Dillinger brawled on the outside. Rhodes left him laying and tagged in and out with Guevara, trading strikes on Crane in the corner. Dillinger tried to help his partner, but was tossed onto his prone partner for a Guevara standing slam.

Rhodes tagged in and took a punch each from Dillinger and Crane. Rhodes was sent to the corner and came out with a big boot to Dillinger. Guevara tagged in and met Dillinger and Crane with a high crossbody. A Texas Destroyer and a GTH followed by a CrossRhodes ended things with Guevara getting the pin on Crane.

Suddenly, the Righteous’ music hit and they ran down the ramp. Vincent grabbed a mic and called Dutch back, addressing Guevara and Rhodes. Vincent asked the crowd if they wanted to see these two teams fight TONIGHT. They responded in the affirmative, but Vincent decided that they didn’t deserve it. Vincent ran down Dusty with a “polka dots” joke, causing Rhodes to grab a chair as the Righteous beat a hasty exit.

ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty defeated Matt Taven

Taven has won every title in ROH except the Pure Title. Taven has been showing some previously unseen technical prowess though and has picked up wins over Josh Woods and Aaron Solo in Pure Rules Matches. Moriarty has been holding the Pure Championship since July when he won it from Wheeler Yuta. Moriarty successfully defended the title against the likes of Angelico and Preston Vance and has been having great success as a member of Shane Taylor Promotions. The real question here is why is this match taking place now with Final Battle just over a week away?

Anyway, a Pure Rules match has three rope breaks and one closed fist allowed for each competitor. After that, it’s a DQ. If the match goes to it’s time limit, judges will award the match based on points.

Taven and Moriarty started off trading wrist locks, clearly in a feeling our process. for the next three minutes it went back and forth, Taven showing more of the surprising technical skill we’ve seen in past week and Moriarty finding a counter for every bit of it. A big kick to the sternum knocked the wind out of Taven and Moriarty got a two count. At 5:16 Taven used his first rope break to get out of a hold.

The pace slowed considerably, which allowed Taven to recover until Moriarty put on a stretch, causing Taven to reach for the ropes and use his second rope break at 6:31. Taven recovered and connected with a huge kick to Moriarty’s head.

In what I can only hope is a first in a Pure Rules Match, Taven hit an Atomic Drop on Moriarty followed by a big knee and got a two-count. Moriarty wishboned Taven’s hand and hit a huge straightjacket slam into a Border City stretch causing Taven to use his third Rope Break at 9:11.

The crowd got behind Taven as he went to the top rope and hit a big splash into a choke hold, forcing Moriarty to use his first Rope Break at 10:43. Moriarty also got his warning for a closed fist a few seconds later. Moriarty then wrapped Taven up in a Tarantula-style hold in the ropes, forcing Taven to tap out.

-Backstage, Athena joined us to talk about Final Battle. Who would her opponent be? Athena let us know that she’s moving on from Final Battle and is focusing on her International Tour. An angry Billie Starkz stomped in and demanded answers from Athena about their match earlier in the night. Athena said she’s been waiting for an apology. Starkz smirked and offered to give her one at Final Battle. For some reason, Athena decided that it would be a match instead at Final Battle. I won’t lie, It was hard to follow, but the bottom line is that Athena and Starkz will face off at Final Battle for the ROH Women’s World Championship!

Chris Jericho/Matt Cardona ROH World title contract signing for Final Battle

Final Battle is on Dec 20th, so that means time is running out for ROH World Champion Chris Jericho to get the paperwork in order! Last week, Matt Cardona revealed himself as Jericho’s opponent at Final Battle, but still needs to put his John Hancock on the contract. So, as with all matters of HR in wrestling, they are going to take care of it in the ring!

Let me just say that of all the recurring wrestling tropes that exist the “Contract Signing” is my least favourite. At best they are the same thing over and over again, where one person jaws at the other, they fight, usually at the cost of a table and then the one left standing angrily signs whatever documentation is needed. (I do like that they bring out special chairs for them though).

Anyway, Jericho came out with a Yankees hat on, as is apropriate for the King of New York. Cardona came out with his usual amount of pomp and circumstance. Tony Schiavone played host and gave a mic to Jericho. Jericho ran down the local sports teams while rhyming off his accolades. Cardona tried to talk, but was shushed by Jericho.

Jericho told Cardona he’s lucky Jericho granted him a shot at the ROH Title. He congratulated Cardona on having his biggest match ever; this one. But there will be no way that he will get the title from him. Cardona had enough and interrupted Jericho, telling him to shut up.

Cardona called Jericho a bull-spit artist and completely fake about his proclaimed love for Ring of Honor. Cardona called his shot at the ROH Title the biggest match of his life. It’s not about Jericho or the Title, it’s about Cardona needing to prove to himself that he’s the best. He then signed the contract. Angrily. Jericho asked to borrow a pen from Schiavone, then said that he should probably step out of the ring now.

Jericho went to sign the papers, but delayed, faking the crowd out over and over again. Finally, he signed, reluctantly. He stuck his hand out and Cardona took it… and threw Jericho into the ropes! He then put Jericho through a table and stood tall with the ROH Belt over top of him as the show ended.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Lee Moriarty vs. Preston Vance Pure title match

Reigning Ring of Honor Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will put his title on the line against Preston Vance on tonight’s ROH on HonorClub.

It will be the second title defense for Moriarty since winning the belt at July’s Death Before Dishonor while Vance is looking for his first title in either AEW or ROH. He comes into the match having won his last two bouts.

Former ROH TV Champion Tony Deppen makes his return to the company for the first time since April when he goes one-on-one with Action Andretti.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena will team up with former Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz in tag team action.

For the first time ever, Johnny TV will face Komander.

Other ROH stars in action against opponents to be named includes Brian Cage and Abadon.

**********

For the 83rd time, Ring of Honor on Honorclub blasted through the speakers and promised a great night of wrestling! Starting with Action! Action Andretti, that is!

Action Andretti (w/Lio Rush) defeats Tony Deppen

Andretti lacking his Top Flight pals and hanging out with Rush was a new development, but hey, the more friends the merrier. Deppen hasn’t been seen in ROH since the spring when he was a losing participant in a trios match against The Premier Athletes.

Deppen had some reps under his belt, being well-travelled around the indie circuit. Andretti had the speed and agility advantage though, tapping into a newfound aggressive streak. Deppen almost got a surprise rollup, but Andretti wriggled free and the two squared off.

Andretti did a really smooth walk and bounce off the top ropes, impressing the crowd and putting Deppen on his heels. In the corner, Andretti rained down chops and dropkicks keeping Deppen close, but not too close.

Deppen tried to gain some momentum with a big splash on the outside and some really hard elbows and strikes in the corner. He went too far though, trying to land a high flying move from the top rope. Andretti hit a springboard 450 and a shotgun dropkick to set up another springboard splash and get the win.

The Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) w/Evil Uno defeated Boulder and Jacked Jameson w/Bronson Beefcake

Jameson and the Iron Savages cut a promo in the back on the Outrunners, who they attacked 2 weeks ago. The meat of the promo is that they don’t like the Outrunners, saying that they were “meat riders.” That means they rode the meatiness of the Savages into ROH, I think.

Reynolds and Boulder started things off, stomping around the ring. Reynolds tried a waistlock, but Boulder was about doubt his size so he wasn’t able to lock it in. Reynolds dodged a splash and tagged in Silver. Jameson jumped in as well and the posing began. Silver may be shorter, but he has the strength to match up against Jameson and even landed a big atomic drop.

Silver managed to send Jameson and Bronson to Titty City. That meant he pressed their faces into Boulder’s chest, cackling “you’ve got boobies in your face!” That gave some new life to the Savage-Jameson connection and Boulder and silver fought in the ring.

Later, Reynolds managed to catch Boulder in a cobra stretch but Jameson broke it up with a one armed slam. The beef was flying as Silver and Jameson both leapt in to break up pins. Silver and Reynolds double teamed Jameson with breakneck speed and managed to get the pin and the win.

Abadon vs Liviyah

Lately, Abandon has had her eyes on ROH Women’s Champion Athena. But that hasn’t stopped her from eating up the competition on her way to that inevitable confrontation. Liviyah was making her ROH debut, much to the chagrin of spelling enthusiasts everywhere.

Abadon drew Liviyah in for a code of honor and ended up biting her arm and then laying her out with a big lariat. Liviyah managed to get a bulldog on Abadon, exclaiming “You think you’re so cool because you’re weird!” Abadon, who is very cool, and very weird, responded with a backbreaker and some clubbing forearms.

Abadon beat up on Livihyah for a few more minutes before pinning her clean. She then stood and exclaimed “I’m coming for you Athena!”

-Red Velvet and Diamante joined us back stage. The Board of Directors banned violence from the interview (because they can do that apparently) so they spoke civilly to each other. Velvet gave Diamante her props, she’s at her prime, but shes old. Velvet became a champion after only 8 years wrestling and Velvet knows it bothers Diamante. Diamante responded by saying that she is in her prime, but she will still get better. Velvet doesnt know what she’s in for when she faces Diamante for the Women’s TV Title.

Brian Cage defeated Alec Price

Last week, the 12-0 Cage defeated assaulted Rusman in a pretty one-sided affair. Now that Cage has begun adding submission moves to his massive power and strength, there’s really little hope for those that cross him.

The biggest problem with a wrestler who looks and moves like Cage is that it’s hard to look at some of his opponents and buy that they have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. Price was about half the size of Cage, and any move he made, Cage just picked him up and threw him at the mat.

With all that said, it was a fun squash match. Cage watched himself pose on the big screen for a bit in between throwing Price in and out of the ring. Price screamed in pain while Cage admired his own biceps. Price showed some life with a springboard dropkick and running knee in the corner. However, Cage literally grabbed him by the trunks and pulled him up for 3 straight powerbombs and an “F-10” to get the victory.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena & Billie Starkz defeated Christina Marie and LMK

Last week, Athena became the longest reigning ROH Champion in the company’s history. But it’s not all celebrations and roses in the Minion camp. Starkz has been frustrated lately about her position as a low-number Minion-in-Training, while Lexy Nair gets all the accolades from Athena. Tensions, they do boil.

Starkz and Marie kicked things off and Starkz was hard-hitting off the top. Marie countered with a scoop slam. Starkz sent her to the outside where Athena threw her into the barricade. LMK tried to get a tag, but Athena isolated Marie in her and Starkz’ corner. Marie managed to get a hot tag to LMK who jumped in an clotheslined the champion.

LMK held her own for a while until Athena kicked her in the face. Marie jumped in to help and Athena side slammed them both. At the same time. Starkz took out Marie with a DDT and Athena locked the Hussy Clutch on LMK who gave up, handing Starkz and Athena the win.

Athena and Starkz beat up their prone opponents until Abadon’s music hit. The Living Dead girl stomped down to the ring and Athena bailed, leaving Starkz to face her on her own. Abadon beat up Starkz until she managed to escape, joining Athena in a quick exit from ringside.

Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes) defeated Johnny TV

In a surprising bit of news, it turned out that this would be the first time these two well-traveled veterans have met in the ring. TV has been enjoying a somewhat laid back time in ROH recently (and some new jackets!), while Komander has been on a hot streak as of late. Abrahantes would be the wild card here with TV’s wife and valet Taya Valkyrie off in AEW hanging out with Deonna Purazzo.

Komander gave up some size to TV, but both had the speed and agility to have a great match. TV tried to throw Komander off his game with some brawler strikes and moves. His pants were also covered with LED lights. That has nothing to do with the match, but should be mentioned.

Komander battled back and landed and around-the-world hurricanrana followed by a sunset flip. TV followed it up with a a shining wizard. TV switched tactics to keep Komander off his feet. TV stood on Komander’s neck and delivered several kicks to the midsection before trying a sleeper.

The two men battled around the ring until TV hit two 360 neckbreakers in a row. That got a two count, so TV went for Starshop Pain, but Komander rolled away, causing TV to miss. TV went for a Torture Rack but Komander reversed it into a mexican destroyer. Komander went to the top rope for his trademark flipping splash and put TV down for the pin.

ROH Pure Title Match: Lee Moriarty (c) defeated Preston Vance

Moriarty and Shane Taylor have been pushing hard to prove that Moriarty is the best ROH Pure Champion ever. Last week, Vance, undefeated in ROH, beat Brandon Cutlerin a one-sided, but fun affair. For those not in the know, Under Pure Rules, each wrestler gets three rope breaks, and one warning for a closed fist. Outside interference or lose a count-out battle results in a title change and suspension for the offending wrestler. Winning is by pinfall or submission and if there was no winner by the 60-minute time limit, a panel of judges would award the win. That panel was Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn and Jimmy Jacobs.

Vance got the upper hand on Moriarty off the top but got his warning for the use of a closed fist early, at 1:29. The fight moved to the outside where Vance tossed Moriarty into barricades, then back in the ring. Moriarty send Vance into the turnbuckle and then tried an armbar, forcing Vance to use his first rope break. Moriarty tried again, costing Vance his second rope break in quick succession.

Vance landed a shoulder block off the second rope and followed it up with a big powerbomb and submisson attempt. Moriarty was forced to use his first rope break, which bought him enough time to hit a massive lariat. Moriarty managed to roll up Vance in a quick move, and got the 1-2-3.

Honestly, what promised to be a good match was cut short. It also appeared that the timer jumped 10 minutes from about 2:30 to 12:30. I don’t know if that was because of a portion of the match that had to be cut, a technical issue, or what. That said, a pretty good show in spite of the weird ending!

Ring of Honor TV live results: Three title matches

This week’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub TV show will feature three title matches in addition to a Proving Ground match.

ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe will look for the third defense of his title as he faces Johnny TV who is still in search of his first AEW or ROH title.

The ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles will be on the line as Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs defend against former champions Cage of Agony.

ROH men’s TV Champion Atlantis Jr. will defend against NJPW’s Robbie Eagles as he looks for the third title defense in his young reign.

Reigning ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will face Action Andretti in a Proving Ground match where if Andretti can win or take Moriarty to a draw, he earns a future title match.

Other action includes Lio Rush vs. Blake Christian, Katsuyori Shibata vs. Ari Daivari, and ROH Women’s Champion Athena will be on hand to share some thoughts as to what’s next for her.

**********

It’s Thursday and you know what that means! Title Matches (times three)! Six Man Action! Grudge Matches! It was all here and waiting in the 77th episode of ROH on Honorclub!

-The show kicked off with a segment with the former Big Show, Paul Wight, who is in charge of ROH now it seems. He was quickly interrupted by Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie. TV requested an ROH Championship match, and Wight considered it for a second and say “ok.” Then it was over. That’s just how things work in ROH.

ROH WORLD CHAMPION Mark Briscoe defeated Johnny TV w/Taya Valkyrie

Last week, Johnny TV defeated Fuego Del Sol. This week, he got a shot a Mark Briscoe’s ROH World Championship, in the first-ever meeting between these two. Briscoe retained the title against Roderick Strong at Death Before Dishonor and recently attempted to murder Jack Perry with a chair in AEW’s Blood and Guts. But TV is, of course, TV Ready (and so is Taya!) and would love to cash in on this opportunity for gold.

The match itself was very fun, if not a little predictable. These two are both excellent at in-ring action, as well as working the crowd. TV looked a little more polished next to Briscoe, but the Master of Redneck Kung Fu has made a career out of adapting to his opponent’s style. That said, TV had control of the match early on, keeping the champion on his toes with big kicks and a little help from Valkyrie on the outside.

Briscoe turned the tables though with a missile dropkick from the top rope. The crowd responded and Briscoe laid in a whole bunch of chops and a dropkick through the ropes on TV. Valkyrie attempted to interfere but was caught and was banned from ringside by the ref. TV took advantage and hit a Starship Pain, but Briscoe kicked out.

After a rope-bouncing back and forth, Briscoe was able to land a Jay Driller on TV and get the pin to retain his ROH World Title.

-Robbie Eagles cut a promo in the back, demanding harder and more meaningful matches. He’s won all over the world, and now he wants ROH Gold. He challenged ROH World TV Champion Atlantis Jr to a match, which would happen later in the show!

Lio Rush defeated Blake Christian

Christian is back in ROH, fresh off the Best of the Super Juniors tournament in Japan. Back in February, Christian fought Zak Sabre Jr. for the NJOW World Television Championship in a losing effort. He’s also been part of quite a few six-man and tag team matches in ROH. In July, having not succeeded in the rap game quite as he’d expected, Rush made his return to ROH after a seven year absence.

Both men worked a very fast and high-flying style, so this match moved at about mach 5. Rush was like a greased trout in the ring and Christian had a hard time getting ahold of him. That said, when he had the upper hand, he was able to dish out the punishment on the smaller Rush. The pair wrestled a full match just in the first couple of minutes and showed no signs of slowing down.

Rush appeared to hurt is arm early on, selling really, really well and giving Christian an opening to take control of the match. Christian went for a big, big spinebuster and worked the shoulder and arm of Rush some more. Rush tried to hit a Rush Hour, but with only one arm, it only had half the impact. Christian wrenched the injured arm of Rush on the edge of the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring) but Rush refused to quit.

Christian hit a pile driver on Rush outside the ring and tossed him back in to attempt a cover. He nailed a springboard 450 off the top rope, but Rush wasn’t done and kicked out. Rush hit a springboard back move off the bottom rope and managed to catch Christian with a rollup and win the match, one arm and all.

Rush as a bit of a reputation in the business, but when he’s focused in the ring, he’s one of the best high-fliers working today.

-Billie Starkz and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena came down to the ring. Athena, with mic in hand. Starkz got demoted to “Minion In Training” after Death Before Dishonor and has been sulking about it ever since. Athena declared that this was the first “live” Minion Training Session and set Starkz to the task of doing situps in the background while she talked. Athena declared that Lexy Nair was her new Minion BFF, and Starkz asked why she wasn’t doing situps? Athena reminded Starkz that she was the one who lost “their” ROH Womens TV Title. She then continued bigging up Lexy and running down Starkz. Athena said that there was no one who could beat her and who should appear behind her? The living dead girl, Abadon! Athena shrieked in terror and then slinked (slunk? slunked?) away with her title belt and Starkz.

-Mark Briscoe joined us from the back with Tomohiro Ishii of the Conglomeration. Briscoe let us know that the Beast Mortos pinned him a while back, and he respects that. Briscoe wants Mortos and is offering a chance at the ROH title to do it. He left to find Paul Wight to make the match official. Ishii also left. He may not have known where he was to begin with.

Katsuyori Shibata defeated Ariya Daivari w/ Mark Sterling & Tony Nese

Last week, the Premier Athete’s Tony Nese got a singles match to show what he could do. This week, Ariya Daivari was in the ring against a man known as “The Wrestler,” Shibata. That implies that Shibata is very, very good at wrestling, so Daivari had his hands full. It also remained to be seen if Mark Sterling or another member of the Premier Athletes would factor into the match.

Daivari wasn’t in a hurry to hook up with Shibata, exiting the ring as soon as the bell rang to get some advice from Sterling. Nese hopped up on the ring apron to distract Shibata, but he was dealt with quickly, leading to Shibata locking in a figure 4 on Daivari. Daivari managed to make it to the ropes to break the hold, and jumped out of the ring again to regroup.

Back in the ring, Daivari was able to gain control while Sterling drove the crowd crazy on the outside. Diavari sent Shibata to the outside and then distracted the ref so Nese and Sterling could work him over. They threw him back in, and Daivary peppered Shibata with chops, but Shibata no-sold them all. A massive dropkick and suplex later and Shibata was firmly in the drivers seat. The Ref caught Sterling and Nese trying to interfere and sent them to the back.

In the chaos, Shibata locked in The Claw and then transitioned to an arm bar, causing Daivari to tap out.

-Backstage, the MxM Collection addressed their “tip-touchers” but were interrupted by the First Lady of Ring of Honor, Maria (along with Griff Garrison). She suggested they accept Garrison as a third partner and make a run in the trios division. They presented their tips, and instead of touching, Garrision grabbed them, leading to the MxM Collection to leave in disgust.

Harley Cameron defeated Viva Van

Last week, Cameron made her presence known in ROH by running down Rachael Ellering’s fashion sense. This week, she would be in the ring with Van, a PWI top-50 ranked competitor, looking to make a name for herself.

Cameron had about a six inch height advantage on Van and took control right off the bell. Cameron has a really mean and nasty way about her and her strikes hit hard. Van was able to reverse into an ankle lock, but Cameron fought out of it, wrenching in a body scissor.

Van came into her own in the latter half of the match, wracking up offence in the way of big dropkicks and knife edge chops. Also screaming. Cameron was able to battle back with a Backstabber, but neither woman could get a three count.

Finally, with a big running knee, Cameron was able to get the pin on Van. The crowd was deadly silent during this match.

Serpentico defeated Griff Garrison (w/ Maria)

A long time ago, in an ROH galaxy far away, Serpentico wore a green mask. Then, it was quite rudely stolen from him by Griff Garrison, his partner Cole Karter and of course, Maria. They have held onto that mask for what seems like years (but is more likely to be months) and Serpentico and his partner Angelico have failed to get it back. Now, with Karter on the shelf and Serpentico taking on Garrison one-on-one, this would be an excellent opportunity to finally get that mask back.

(As an aside, the black mask that Serpentico adopted in lieu of his green one is far superior, but that’s just my opinion.)

Serpentico set the tone for the match right off the bat by jumping Garrison and working him over on the outside before the bell even rang. Garrison managed to flapjack Serpentico on the steel steps (twice) and then threw him into the ring so the match could officially begin.

Garrison was in control, resorting to as many dirty tricks as he could, including eye gouging. Serpentico flailed until he was able to get a big back elbow on Garrison. Maria cheered on the outside as Garrison went for a torture rack bomb and pin, but Serpentico kicked out at two.

Maria screamed instructions at Garrison who tried to get a dazed Serpentico up for another tourture rack bomb. This caused an issue when Serpentico fell over, leading Garrison to clock the Ref, knocking him out. Maria took advantage and slid a chair in to Garrison who set it up in the corner. That brought out Serpentico’s tag partner Angelico to even the odds.

Serpentico reversed Garrison into his own chair and destroyed his testicles with a second. Unfortunately, there was no ref though and a three could not be counted. Serpentico shook him awake, but by then Garrison had enough in him to kick out.

Garrison removed Serpentico’s mask while he was down, but not to worry, Serpentico had a third mask on underneath. He hit a huge splash on Garrison from the top rope and got the pin to win the match and regain custody of all three of his masks.

-Backstage, Athena had calmed down from her Abadon fright earlier. She sent Starkz to get the car while declaring that she isn’t afraid of anyone, especially not a “spooky zombie… thing.” She then left in a huff.

Anthony Henry and Beef defeated Vinnie Massaro and Dante Leon

So, Anthony Henry has a cousin. His name is Beef. He really wants to be a wrestler. That’s about all there is to know about Beef.

Henry started off against Leon in a series of solid, but typical holds and throws for a match opening. The crowd began chanting for Beef, so Henry tagged him in to take on Massaro. Beef showed a lot more speed and energy than I was expecting, taking our Massaro and stomping Leon in the process.

Henry tagged in to a dazed Leon and hit a bridge suplex to get a three count and win the match for he and Beef, who celebrated with beefy gusto!

PROVING GROUND MATCH: ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty defeated Action Andretti

For those just arriving in the ROH Universe, this is a Proving Ground match. That means, If Andretti could last ten minutes or pin Moriarty, he will earn a future shot at the Pure Championship! It’s rare that the challenger actually wins Proving Ground matches, but Moriarty did just that against Wheeler Yuta to earn his successful shot at the title in the first place. Moriarty and Andretti have a long history, having battled on ROH and Collision over the last few months.

So, there was some confusion up until match time, but this Proving Ground match was contested under Pure rules, which meant that in addition to the regular Proving Ground rules, each man would get three rope breaks, and a panel of judges would award the win if there was no winner as time ran out.

Andretti seemed to have a little trouble adjusting to this and it cost him a rope break early. Moriarty did a great job of keeping the high-flying Andretti on the ground and keeping the match pace to his liking. Three minutes in, Andretti had used his second and third rope breaks, leaving him without one for the remainder of the match.

Moriarty caught a warning from the ref at 4:13 for using a closed fist. At the halfway point of the match, Andretti locked Moriarty into a Texas Cloverleaf. Moriarty was able to use a rope break to get out of it before he tapped. Moriarty locked in a crossface in the center of the ring, and with no rope breaks left for Andretti, his only recourse was to tap out at about 6 minutes.

ROH WORLD TV CHAMPION Atlantis Jr. defeated TMDK’s Robbie Eagles

Atlantis Jr went through five competitors at Death Before Dishonor before pinning Brian Cage to retain his title. Eagles had his first ROH match in over a year last week. A former IGWP Jr Heavyweight champion, Eagles was no slouch, and Atlantis Jr took that threat seriously.

These two were a really great matchup. Both had speed and agility to spare. Atlantis Jr got the upper hand first with a big knee to the face. Eagles fought back though, forcing Atlantis Jr to the outside where he worked him over and threw him back in the ring. Eagles gave into his own ego though, allowing Atlantis Jr to find an opening for some big punches.

Eagles tried to take off Atlantis Jr’s mask, but the champion was able to wriggle away before he got it off. Eagles began working the leg, trying to set up a submission finish, but Atlantis Jr fought back and landed a pile driver on Eagles. He followed that up with a back suplex and a two-count.

Eagles got in a flurry of offence, ending up with a Ron Miller Special locked in on Atlantis Jr. After a few minutes, Atlantis was able to fight his way to the ropes to break the hold. Eagles charged, but Atlantis caught him with a spinning backbreaker.

The two men caught their second winds at the same time and Eagles and Atlantis Jr traded holds and moves at breakneck speed. Atlantis ended up on the mat and Eagles went to the top rope, but missed the landing. Atlantis caught him in a tilt-o-whirl torture rack and Eagles was forced to tap out, allowing Atlantis Jr to retain the ROH TV Title.

-Paul Wight joined us from the backstage area to tell us that he’s making it official. Next week, The Beast Mortos would take on Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Championship. This brought out Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari who complained that everyone is being given title shots but them. Wight said that if Nese can beat Lio Rush, Wight would find them a match of their liking. Nese accepted and the pain left.

ROH WORLD SIX-MAN CHAMPIONS Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erich (Marshall & Ross) defeated Cage of Agony (Brian Cage, Toa Liona, & Bishop Kaun)

Last week, it was a tag match for Rhodes, teaming with Sammy Guevara in a win against the Dark Order. Back in the Six-Man fold, Rhodes and the Von Erichs took on the very beefy and very dangerous Cage of Agony, 2-time Six Man Champions in their own right. They held the belts for a combined 351 days, and defended them 11 times. If COA was able to get one over on the champs, they would become the 3-Time Six Man Champions, a feat only accomplished by one other team, The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Maseglia and TK O’Ryan).

Ross started things off against Kaun, with Kaun taking the lead until Marshall came in for a save. Kaun absolutely crushed Marshall with a lariat bringing in his partners for a triple team. The legal tag went to Cage, who dragged Marshall to the corner, isolating him in the Corner of Agony. Marshall fought out of the corner and managed to tag in Ross. Cage caused a distraction, and Kaun threw Ross out of the ring. Cage beat him up on the outside and tossed him back in for a Liona and Kaun double team.

Cage, in his X-Men gear that had to be making The Infantry jealous, tagged in and beat up on Ross. Cage’s raw power was pretty hard to match, but Ross just couldn’t get the tag to one of his partners. Cage of Agony started wrestling with real arrogance. Standing covers, stopping for pushups, etc. Ross found an opening and got a tag to Rhodes, at the same time Cage got a tag.

Rhodes played his greatest hits on Cage, hitting him with bulldogs, powerslams and even a crossRhodes. At this point, the match devolved as all six men were in the ring taking and giving signature moves. Cage and Rhodes remained the legal men and Rhodes hit a sneak Texas Destroyer that got a very close two count.

Siuddenly, the ring was flooded with bodies. The Dark Order and the Undisputed Kingdom stormed the ring, causing a no contest and wreaking havoc. Sammy Guevara ran down to join the fray along with Fuego Del Sol, Serpoentico and Angelico. The heels beat down on the faces and even took out the security that was sent to the ring to regain order.

Cage hit a Gory Flatliner on Del Sol and Bennett and Taven took out Rhodes with a Hail Mary driver. Then Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn and more referees hit the ring representing the Board of Directors. They broke up the 8 vs 4 melee as the show came to an end.

Lee Moriarty, Red Velvet become new champions at ROH Death Before Dishonor

For the first time in both of their AEW & Ring of Honor runs, Lee Moriarty and Red Velvet can each call themselves ROH champions after Friday’s Death Before Dishonor.

Moriarty won the Pure title after pinning Wheeler Yuta while using the ropes which was legal due to both men using up their allotted rope breaks under Pure rules. After the match, Yuta showed Moriarty respect by handing him the title himself.

Moriarty earned the shot by taking Yuta to a ten-minute draw in a June Proving Ground match. They are now 1-1-1 against each other in ROH after Yuta defeated Moriarty in a November 2023 bout.

The win ends the 245-day third Pure title reign for Yuta which was elongated due to him being out of action for a considerable amount of time due to a concussion. He defended the title three times after winning it in November, but this was his first defense since January.

Then in the next match, Velvet took out inaugural ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz to become the second-ever titleholder.

The closing sequence came when Starkz pulled out an old trick and pretended to be injured as she had against Queen Aminata in the TV title finals. She then sprung up and hit Velvet with an enziguri and began mugging to the crowd. Velvet then faked her own injury which threw Starkz off, allowing Velvet to hit Mama’s Recipe to get the victory.

Velvet is now 3-0 against Starkz in both AEW and ROH action and is on a four-match win streak. Starkz never defended the title after winning it at April’s Supercard of Honor.

Wheeler Yuta vs. Lee Moriarty Pure title match official for ROH Death Before Dishonor

The ROH Pure title will be on the line this Friday.

Tony Khan announced on X that Wheeler Yuta will defend the title against Lee Moriarty on Friday’s event that will stream live on ROH Honor Club.

“After he survived the Proving Ground + following Thursday’s BCC vs STP tag on ROH TV Moriarty will challenge Yuta for the Pure Title Friday at Death Before Dishonor!,” Khan wrote.

Moriarty went to a time limit draw with Yuta in a Proving Ground match on the July 4 episode of Ring of Honor. Friday’s title match will be the first title match for Yuta since January, as he was out of action due to concussion issues. He returned to in-ring action last month and has since teamed with his Blackpool Combat Club partners.

With three big time Proving Ground Matches driving this week’s holiday ROH card, the show was packed from pillar to post! Kicking things off was The Infantry with a Fourth of July message for everyone! They declared themselves Official Hosts for the Independence Day edition of ROH TV!

Juice Robinson & The Gunn Club (Austin and Colton Gunn) defeated The Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, John Silver)

This Trios Proving Ground match gave the Dark Order a chance to fight for a future shot at the ROH Trios Championships, currently held by Bullet Club Gold. All the Order had to do was last 10 minutes or pin one of their opponents.

Fun Fact: The Unified ROH/AEW Trios Titles are the only ones defended on both AEW and ROH shows, so the Champions must pull double duty.

Using a modified Freebird Rule, Robinson took the place of Jay White, who was “out with injury.” Uno kicked things off against Austin and the crowd was hot. Austin found himself isolated early, but Robinson and Colton broke things up, keeping the match on an even keel.

Robinson at one point climbed into the ring and pretended to be a dog and pee on Uno (no, really), causing an enraged Reynolds to chase him around the ring. That left Reynolds open to an attack by Colton though, to the frustration of Uno and Silver.

Time began getting short as Robinson and Reynolds both leapt for hot tags, pitting Uno against both Gunns. He hit relentless splashes into the corner(s), and when Robinson tried to help, all three Bullet Clubbers were set up for a big triple dropkick.

Eventually, the Gunns hit a 3:10 to Yuma on an unsuspecting Reynolds and managed to put an end to the Proving Ground match and get the win for their team.

-The Infantry joined us for a US History lesson, marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They then ran down the card, mentioning that they would like to punch the Kingdom in the face with some Iron Gauntlets that they had for… some reason. They promised to be back, and the show moved into a MEM (Minion Empowerment Meeting)!

-ROH Women’s Champion Athena, ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz, Lexy Nair and their Minion Security appeared back stage. Before anything could happen though, Red Velvet and Queen Aminata joined the party. Velvet said that she’s been awarded a shot at Starkz’ TV Title at Death Before Dishonor! To make matters worse for the Minions, Aminata will be challenging for the ROH Women’s World Title at the same show, no matter if Athena is cleared to wrestle or not! Athena stomped off to find Tony Khan and find out what is going on!

-The Infantry then came back, but this time under the backdrop of the US Capitol. They ran down some of the monuments and attractions in Washington, declaring it America’s HonorClub!

ROH Tag Team Champions Matt Taven and Mike Bennett defeated Metalik and Komander in a Proving Ground match

Taven and Bennett have been on top of the ROH tag division for quite some time now. Last week, they lamented the lack of competition and literally prayed to “booker-man” Tony Khan for someone to fight on their level. Khan’s response can seconds later in the form of Metalik and Komander. If they could pin or outlast the Champions to a 10-minute Draw, they would get a guaranteed title shot in the future.

Taven and Komander started things off and it was apparent that Taven was little confused by the luchadore style. He tried to utilize his height advantage though but the speed of Komander was hard to contain. A missed double team led to a hot tag to Metalik and he managed to put Taven down and take Bennett on one-on-one.

Metalik and Komander held control through the first half of the match, landing big splashes and dives through the ropes, keeping the champions on their heels, both in and out of the ring. A miscommunication though left Metalik on his own against a double team from The Kingdom at the halfway mark of the match.

Bennett picked up the urgency, looking to put away Metalik as fast as he could to avoid time running out. The luchadore wasn’t going down easily though, hitting a sunset bomb off the top rope. Komander followed it up with a spinning DDT on Taven.

As the time limit crept closer to expiration, Bennett and Taven resorted to a little bit of good ol’ fashioned heeling and hit a bit double team on Metalik after taking out Komander. This got them the pin and the win.

-Continuing their tour of American historical locations, The Infantry joined us from Mount Rushmore. They talked about the Presidents on the Mount and suggested that they add themselves to Rushmore, Twice. They reminded us all that Death Before Dishonor is on it’s way and signed off to go “watch some Will Smith movies.”

ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. Lee Moriarty went to a Time Limit Draw in a Proving Ground match

As with all Proving Ground matches, if the challenger (Moriarty) can pin or wrestle the Champion (Yuta) to a 10-minute draw, then Moriarty would get a shot at the ROH Pure Title at a later date.

Yuta, a member of the Blackpool Combat Club, matched up with Moriarty in size and speed really well. Unlike the previous two Proving Ground matches, a countdown clock was shown for this match which greatly added to the tension. Being able to see how little time was left really added an exciting aspect to the match.

At 7:43 Moriarty literally kicked Yuta out of mid-air, taking a bit of an upper hand in the match. Borrowing from his BCC teammate, Yuta tried a series of European uppercuts, but Moriarty was able to defend against them and lock in an arm-based submission move. Yuta reversed it though and the two took a breath.

Yuta, with about 5 minutes left managed to reverse a straightjacket hold, forcing Moriarty to use a rope break. As time ticked down, Yuta tossed Moriarty to the outside and dove through the ropes after him. Tossing him back in the ring, Yuta executed a series of suplexes on Moriarty.

With 90 seconds remaining, the match stayed pretty even. Yuta tried to pick up the pace, and caught Moriarty in an attempted pile driver. The two exchanged pinning attempts as the clock ticked down to less than a minute.

Fifteen Seconds were left as the two resorted to simple brawling, exchanging shots as time ran out relegating the match to a draw. However, Moriarty lasted the 10 minutes, so he gets a guaranteed shot at Yuta’s ROH Pure championship!
