Matt Riddle challenging for MLW World title at Kings of Colosseum

Matt Riddle is hoping to start his 2025 with a World Championship victory.

It’s been confirmed that Riddle will challenge Japanese wrestling legend Satoshi Kojima for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship at the promotion’s Kings of Colosseum event on Saturday, January 11. The show is taking place from North Richland Hills, Texas and will air for free on MLW’s YouTube channel.

Riddle got this shot by winning MLW Battle Riot 2024. If he defeats Kojima, this would be Riddle’s first championship reign in MLW. He made it to the finals of a title tournament in 2018 (when MLW returned as a promotion) but lost out to Swerve Strickland.

Kojima has been champion since dethroning Alex Kane this 2024. It’s the second time Kojima has held the title, with his first World Championship reign happening in 2002-2003 during the original incarnation of MLW.

Before Kings of Colosseum, Riddle has a match against Donovan Dijak at Eric Bischoff’s MLW One-Shot event in New York City on Thursday, December 5. Kojima will be defending his MLW World title against CMLL’s Ultimo Guerrero on the TV taping portion of that show.

MLW crowns inaugural Women’s Featherweight Champion

The first Women’s Champion in MLW history was crowned at a set of television tapings on Friday night.

Taya Valkyrie defeated Holidead at Kings of Colosseum on Friday to become the inaugural MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion. The match will air on a future episode of MLW Fusion.

Kings of Colosseum was the first time Valkyrie has appeared for MLW since 2018. In addition to winning the Women’s Featherweight Championship, Valkyrie also took part in a trios match. Valkyrie, Lince Dorado & Microman defeated Holidead, Arez & Mini Abismo Negro.

Valkyrie is also the current AAA Reina de Reinas Champion. She won that title from Deonna Purrazzo at Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view last month.

Valkyrie was formerly known as Franky Monet in NXT. She was released by WWE last November.

The MLW women’s featherweight division first launched in September 2021. MLW has stated that it plans to have multiple women’s weight classes in the future.

“MLW plans on having multiple women’s [divisions],” the promotion wrote. “Like the men with the heavyweight and middleweight divisions, the women’s featherweight division promises to showcase the best and promote fair fights in stature between fighters of similar attributes.”

New Samoan Swat Team to debut at MLW Kings of Colosseum

A new-era version of the Samoan Swat Team is set to debut in MLW.

MLW has announced that Jacob Fatu is forming a new incarnation of his family’s Samoan Swat Team faction. The group will consist of Fatu, Lance Anoa’i, and Juicy Finau.

Anoa’i & Finau will team together at MLW’s Kings of Colosseum television tapings this Friday, taking on the masked Uno & Cinco of Los Aztecas.

Finau, who signed a multi-year deal with MLW last month, is Fatu’s protege in the promotion.

MLW wrote about the new faction:

A new faction arrives in Major League Wrestling this Friday.

The Samoan Swat Team ravaged the tag team circuit in the 1980s and 90s with Samu and Fatu warring with the likes of the Steiner Bros., Von Erichs, Freebirds and countless others as they took the world by storm.

Now, the next generation of one of wrestling’s great tag teams will unite and debut on Friday, May 13 in Philadelphia.

Recently, Fatu and Cesar Duran have been quarreling. After a vicious attack at the hands of Bestia 666, Cesar Duran and his considerable influence and never-ending army of luchadores have only escalated in their attacks and games. It’s clear Jacob Fatu is fighting a one man war. So, ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ is countering by forming his own swat team!

In addition to Fatu, the swat team features a powerful combo of speed, power and force in Lance Anoa’i and Juicy Finau.

Lance Anoa’i, the son of Samoan Swat Team founding member Samu, grandson of Afa and cousin of The Rock, is a blend of agility and innovation. Teaming with Jacob Fatu over the years, Lance and Fatu are as close as it gets in and away from the ring.

And while Tongans and Samoans have at times been engulfed in their own wars, including possibly a king being eaten during a contentious island conflict, Tongan Juicy Finau is family to Fatu. Super heavyweight Finau and Fatu represent the west coast of the Polynesian family. A proud Tongan with a devastating arsenal that defies and quite possibly breaks gravity, Finau rounds out what could be this decade’s most dangerous and promising team.

Cesar Duran has welcomed Fatu’s swat team to MLW… by signing a bout sheet for their debut as the SST in Philadelphia against Cesar Duran’s Los Azteca Uno y Cinco.

Will Duran’s duo dash the debut of Fatu’s SST or will Fatu’s swat team wreck shop? Find out LIVE Friday night, May 13 in Philadelphia at MLW Kings of Colosseum!

Fatu will also be in action at Kings of Colosseum. He’s facing Mads Krugger in a “Weapons of Mass Destruction” match. The ring and ringside perimeter “”will be militarized with weaponry all around it and inside of it” for that match.

Kings of Colosseum is being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. The updated lineup for the tapings is listed below.

Triple threat Middleweight title match added to MLW Kings of Colosseum

The MLW Middleweight Championship will be up for grabs in a triple threat match at the promotion’s next set of television tapings.

At Kings of Colosseum, Myron Reed will put his MLW Middleweight title on the line against KC Navarro and Arez in a triple threat bout. The event is being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday, May 13.

Reed is a three-time MLW Middleweight Champion. His current title reign began when he defeated Tajiri, Bandido, and Matt Cross in a four-way match at MLW Blood & Thunder this January.

MLW wrote about the Reed vs. Navarro vs. Arez title match:

The fastest division in Major League Wrestling will be in overdrive as the reigning World Middleweight Champion defends his belt against one of Mexico’s emerging greats in Arez and the flashy and furious KC Navarro.

A member of Gangrel’s new brood, Strange Sangre, Arez has been fixated on a conquest offered to him by Cesar Duran. Since then, Arez has been obsessed with gold and getting his hands on Microman. How will Arez’s sinister Strange Sangre figure into this match? Could it tilt the championship into ‘King Strange’s’ hands?

The other challenger, KC Navarro, is coming off of a bitter feud with nZo. ‘The Blessed One’ looks to take the lessons he learned from nZo’s street school of hard knocks and apply that grit and tenacity to claiming his first championship in MLW.

Determined to cement his legacy as the greatest of all time in MLW, the ‘Young GOAT’ welcomed Duran’s triple threat title bout, with the 3-time champ signing the dotted line in under 24 hours.

But how will Myron Reed fend off two challengers in one night?

MLW to crown first Women’s Featherweight Champion at Kings of Colosseum

MLW is set to crown the first Women’s Champion in the history of the promotion.

The inaugural MLW Women’s Featherweight Champion will be crowned in a match between Taya Valkryie and Holidead at Kings of Colosseum on Friday, May 13. The show is being held at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Holidead has been a member of the MLW women’s featherweight division since it was introduced in September of last year.

Kings of Colosseum will be the first time that Valkyrie has wrestled for MLW since 2018.

MLW notes that it plans to have multiple women’s weight classes in the future.

“MLW plans on having multiple women’s [divisions],” the promotion wrote. “Like the men with the heavyweight and middleweight divisions, the women’s featherweight division promises to showcase the best and promote fair fights in stature between fighters of similar attributes.”

Kings of Colosseum is a television taping for MLW Fusion. The updated card for the event is listed below:

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Richard Holliday (w/ Alicia Atout)

  • Weapons of Mass Destruction match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger

‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ match set for MLW Kings of Colosseum

A stipulation match is set for MLW’s return to the former ECW Arena.

Former Contra Unit stablemates Jacob Fatu and Mads Krugger will face off in a “Weapons of Mass Destruction” match at MLW’s television tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday, May 13. Kings of Colosseum is the name of the tapings.

For the Weapons of Mass Destruction match, the ring and ringside perimeter “will be militarized with weaponry all around it and inside of it.”

MLW is advertising this as the “final battleground” for Fatu and Krugger’s rivalry. The two have been feuding since getting into a brawl following Contra Unit’s loss to Alex Hammerstone, Richard Holliday, EJ Nduka, Savio Vega & Jeff Cobb in a War Chamber match last November. Krugger blamed Fatu for Contra’s loss.

Fatu and Krugger have each defeated the other once during their feud.

MLW wrote about the Weapons of Mass Destruction match:

CONTRA’s civil war reaches the final battleground as the former CONTRA kingpin Jacob Fatu collides with ‘The Black Hand of CONTRA’ Mads Krugger in a Weapons of Mass Destruction Match in the City of Brotherly Love.

In a match that promises a destructive conclusion to the bitter six month [feud], the ring and ringside perimeter will be militarized with weaponry all around it and inside of it.

Krugger, the masked mercenary from South Africa, challenged Fatu to this match and the ‘Samoan Werewolf’ didn’t hesitate to accept. With both combatant each owning a win over the other, the stage is now set for annihilation in Philly.

What weapons will be revealed when Fatu or Krugger open military crates? Who will reign supreme? Find out Friday night, May 13 in Philadelphia at MLW Kings of Colosseum!

Here’s the updated card for Kings of Colosseum:

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone defends against Richard Holliday (w/ Alicia Atout)
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction match: Jacob Fatu vs. Mads Krugger

Hammerstone vs. Holliday title match to headline MLW Kings of Colosseum

A World Heavyweight Championship grudge match is going down at MLW’s next set of television tapings.

Alex Hammerstone defending his MLW World Heavyweight Championship against Richard Holliday will headline MLW’s TV tapings at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday, May 13. “Kings of Colosseum ’22” is the name of the tapings.

Hammerstone and Holliday were formerly stablemates as part of The Dynasty. On an episode of MLW Fusion this February, Holliday turned against Hammerstone and got together with Alicia Atout.

Last October, Hammerstone became MLW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Jacob Fatu in a title vs. title match. Hammerstone vacated the MLW National Openweight Championship after winning the World title.

Hammerstone vs. Holliday is the first match that’s been announced for Kings of Colosseum. MLW wrote about the matchup:

The main event has been set for MLW’s only card at the 2300 Arena for 2022 and it’s a big one as the Dynasty finally collides in a World Heavyweight Championship clash months in the making.

After the dynastic betrayal by Richard Holliday in Dallas earlier this year, Holliday has touted himself the brains behind Hammerstone’s meteoric rise as well as taken credit as the founding father of the Dynasty itself! Going as far as proclaiming to be the ‘Sole Proprietor’ of the Dynasty, Holliday has put Hammerstone — the man he once called his best friend — in his crosshairs.

Some point to the emergence of Alicia Atout and her relationship with Holliday as poisoning the dynastic bond between Hammer and Holliday.

Did Alicia Atout twist situations and put the blame on Hammerstone for the Dynasty’s problems with Cesar Duran? Others wonder if Holliday is bitter over Hammer’s success.

Insisting that the media use the term ‘Clout Couple’ when referring to this rarefied romance, Holliday has seemingly snapped as Atout encourages a bloody war against Hammerstone.

From a shocking beating in Dallas to the crimson suit drenched in Hammer’s blood at SuperFight, Hammerstone has found himself at a loss of not only a friendship but a vicious onslaught at the hands of someone who knows him better than anyone in the sport.

Now the stage is set for the most personal feud in MLW history and the stakes couldn’t be higher as Hammerstone looks to thunderclap Holliday back to his posh and privileged Westport, CT life once and for all… but does Holliday have the upper hand with Atout by his side and his much hyped ‘strategic dominance’?

Lio Rush wins MLW Middleweight title at Kings of Colosseum

In his debut match for MLW, Lio Rush became a champion.

Rush won the MLW Middleweight Championship by defeating Myron Reed at Kings of Colosseum. The event aired on YouTube and other platforms on Wednesday night.

Reed hit an inside-out cutter to the floor near the end of the match, but Rush moved out of the way of a springboard 450 splash back in the ring. Rush then hit a bounce-back stunner and a top rope frog splash to win the Middleweight Championship.

Prior to losing the title, Reed had been Middleweight Champion since November 2019.

Rush cut a post-match promo after facing Reed and said that not only is he a musician, the hottest free agent in the world, and someone who owns more things than your entire life is worth — he’s now the Middleweight Champion of MLW and there’s nothing anyone in the company can do about it.

Later in the show, Reed cut a promo and said he’ll do anything it takes to get the Middleweight Championship back. Reed and Jordan Oliver were then attacked by CONTRA Unit’s Jacob Fatu, Simon Gotch, and Daivari.

Rush also took part in NJPW’s Super J-Cup last month, losing to tournament winner El Phantasmo in the first round.

Tag Team title match added to MLW Kings of Colosseum

Another title match has been made official for MLW Kings of Colosseum.

The Von Erichs (Marshall & Ross Von Erich) will defend their MLW Tag Team titles against The Dirty Blondes (Leon Brien & Michael Patrick w/ Aria Blake) in a Texas Tornado match at Kings of Colosseum. The show will premiere on YouTube, Fubo Sports, and Pluto TV at 7 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, January 6. It will also be made available on DAZN and will then air on beIN Sports on Saturday, January 9.

The Von Erichs have been MLW Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from The Dynasty (MJF & Richard Holliday) at Saturday Night SuperFight in November 2019.

The Dirty Blondes defeated Ariel Dominguez & Daniel Starling on this week’s episode of MLW Fusion.

This is the third title match that’s been confirmed for Kings of Colosseum. Lio Rush challenging for Myron Reed’s MLW Middleweight Championship is also set for the event, along with Alexander Hammerstone defending his MLW National Openweight Championship against Contra Unit’s Mads Krugger.

Simon Gotch vs. Jordan Oliver is also set for Kings of Colosseum. Plus, Salina de la Renta — who has been hyping that Mil Muertes is coming to MLW — will be making a “bombshell” announcement at the show.

MLW Kings of Colosseum results: Tom Lawlor vs. Jacob Fatu

The Big Takeaways —

  • Jacob Fatu defeated “Filthy” Tom Lawlor to win the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
  • A Tag Team title ladder match will air on next week’s MLW Fusion.
  • Konnan returned and interrupted Salina de la Renta’s interview with Jim Cornette. De la Renta is holding a devastating secret over Konnan’s head and is threatening to reveal it to the world.

Full Recap —

 – Jim Cornette and Rich Bocchini welcomed us to this MLW special and ran down the card, which includes a live edition of the Jim Cornette Experience with Salina de la Renta.

MLW National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone defeated Kotto Brazil to retain his title (5:39)

Hammerstone took the mic before the match and called the fans “inner city sweathogs” and called The Hart Foundation felons. MJF blamed Court Bauer for his headset not initially working as he joined Cornette and Bocchini on commentary. Richard Holliday and Aria Blake were around ringside too.

Brazil used his speed to his advantage in the early stages, including a headscissor takedown, a dropkick to the face, and a cradle. But it didn’t take long for Hammerstone’s power to come into effect as he launched Brazil across the ring and floored him with a pump kick to the jaw.

Hammerstone went for his Nightmare Pendulum finisher, but Brazil avoided it and hit a satellite DDT. Brazil then hit a big dropkick from the top rope and followed up with a frog splash from the top, but Hammerstone kicked out at one.

Brazil went to the well once too often and was distracted by Richard Holliday while he was on the top rope. Hammerstone joined him up there and hit a big delayed middle rope superplex. He then planted Brazil with the Nightmare Pendulum and picked up the win to retain his title.

MJF took the mic after the match and called The Dynasty the greatest faction in professional wrestling history. The crowd were chanting “Perro” at him, but he shot them down and challenged The Hart Foundation for their MLW Tag Team titles.

– We cut backstage to Simon Gotch, who warned Tom Lawlor that the last time they were in this arena, Contra Unit was born. He pointed out the door where Gotch led Lawlor to his ambush. But as he said that, the door opened — and there stood a newly buzz cut Tom Lawlor.

Lawlor beat up Gotch and slammed him into the door. Lawlor told Josef Samael and Jacob Fatu that he hopes they’re ready for their fight later on, because he is. He said tonight the door closes on Contra.

– We then saw an advertisement for MLW’s pay-per-view on November 2 in Cicero, Illinois.

Myron Reed defeated Rey Horus (8:22)

Jordan Oliver joined Reed at ringside and they had their “Justice” placards with them. It was a quick start to the match, with Horus sending Reed to the outside numerous times.

Horus looked to dive onto Reed throughout the match. Oliver distracted him on this occasion, which gave Reed the opportunity to get back into the ring and hit Horus with a step-up enzuigiri. Oliver then put the boots to Horus on the outside behind referee Doug Markham’s back.

Horus fought back and sent Reed to the outside. He was about to get his dive in when Oliver stormed the ring and sprinted at Horus, so Horus dropped down with the top rope and Oliver tumbled to the outside. Markham delayed Horus’ dive again, deciding to read the riot act to Oliver and Reed on the outside, so Horus launched himself over Markham, over the top rope and right on top of his two foes on the outside.

Back inside, Horus ended up hitting a springboard guillotine leg drop for a two count. He then went for a brainbuster, but Reed turned in mid-air and hit a cutter. Reed then followed up with a springboard 450 splash but only got a two count.

They exchanged forearms until Horus caught Reed coming off the ropes with a running Spanish Fly. Horus knocked Oliver off the apron, but the distraction was enough to allow Reed to springboard from the apron and land a big flying European uppercut that floored Horus long enough for Reed to pick up the victory. Reed is calling that the Louisville Slugger. He and Oliver put the boots to Horus after the bell.

– Georgia Smith was backstage interviewing her family members Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Teddy Hart. They accepted Dynasty’s challenge for their Tag Team titles — but made the match next week a tag team ladder match.

Smith Jr. then said he wants to give Brian Pillman Jr. the shot at defending the titles. He said you need to become fearless to become limitless — and he wants Pillman to take no prisoners against The Dynasty.

– Jim Cornette then interviewed Salina de la Renta. She immediately told him to address her as Miss de la Renta. She denied to answer when questioned about whether or not LA Park would cash in his title shot tonight.

De la Renta moved onto Konnan, saying his two “stars” are not here so he must suck at his job. She also said he must not be able to pleasure a woman, and that brought Konnan out to confront her. Konnan announced that he has another crop of luchadors that he has already signed up, so she can’t exploit them like she usually does.

De la Renta said this is typical of Konnan, but she has a little secret of her own. A secret that will bring Konnan to his knees, humiliate him, and end his career. She threatened him by saying if he wants to know this secret, keep trying her and she will spill.

– We cut backstage to a Dynasty photoshoot where Hammerstone revealed to MJF that The Hart Foundation have accepted their challenge — but under ladder match rules. MJF looked less than pleased to hear the stipulation and couldn’t stop Richard Holliday from accepting on his behalf. He ended up storming off, with the commentary team joking that MJF doesn’t like heights.

Jacob Fatu defeated “Filthy” Tom Lawlor to win the MLW World Heavyweight Championship (7:17)

Fatu was accompanied by only Josef Samael, as Lawlor took out Simon Gotch earlier in the night. De la Renta was sitting in the front row watching the action and keeping tabs for her Promociones Dorado member LA Park, who can cash in a World title shot at anytime.

Fatu didn’t let Lawlor enter the ring and it took Samael and referee Frank Gastineau to create some space.

They exchanged big right hands from the get-go — and it didn’t take long for the action to spill to the outside. Samael distracted Lawlor while he was on the apron and Fatu ran and sent Lawlor flying right on top of the security guardrail. Fatu tossed him around outside and choked him with a cable. He dropped Lawlor back-first on the apron, chest-first on the guardrail, and head-first on the ring bell.

Back inside, Fatu thwarted Lawlor’s attacks but missed a middle rope headbutt. Lawlor locked on a rear naked choke, but Fatu threw him off. He tried again and had better luck for a few seconds, but Fatu tossed him again. A spinning heel kick and a dropkick slowed Fatu some more, but Fatu squashed Lawlor in the corner on the third choke attempt.

Fatu caught Lawlor coming off the top and hit a big Black Hole Slam. Fatu then went for his triple-jump moonsault but missed. Samael was distracting the referee, so Lawlor went filthy and kicked Fatu below the belt. Lawlor then went for a sunset flip. He didn’t get the big man over and luckily moved at the last minute as Fatu went for the big sit-down splash.

Lawlor then hit his own Yes Kicks, but they still didn’t faze Fatu. Fatu hulked up to his feet, so Lawlor delivered some knees to the head and locked in another choke. But it was again to no avail as Fatu escaped after a few seconds.

Lawlor then went for an RKO style cutter, but Fatu put his hands on the mat and used a handstand to block it. Fatu then hit a back handspring moonsault but only got a two count.

Lawlor fought back with some Chop and Roll Express chops, fists, and a spinning clothesline in the corner. He went for another spinning clothesline, but Fatu met him with a superkick and a pop-up Samoan drop. Fatu then lined Lawlor up and hit his triple-jump moonsault to become the new MLW World Heavyweight Champion.

Fatu celebrated with his newly-won title as Cornette and Bocchini questioned the future of MLW with Fatu as their champion.

Next Week —

  • Teddy Hart & Brian Pillman Jr. defend the MLW Tag Team titles in a ladder match against MJF & Richard Holliday.

Two title changes took place at MLW’s Kings of Colosseum event in Cicero, Illinois on Saturday night.

World title match announced for MLW Kings of Colosseum

MLW has announced their next World Heavyweight Championship match.

During this week’s episode of MLW Fusion, it was revealed that Tom Lawlor will defend his World Championship against Jacob Fatu at the promotion’s television tapings in Cicero, Illinois on Saturday, July 6. The tapings are taking place at Cicero Stadium and are being called “Kings of Colosseum.”

Lawlor has been feuding with Contra Unit (Fatu, Josef Samael & Simon Gotch) since the group formed and attacked him in March. On MLW’s Fury Road live special last weekend, there was an angle where Contra Unit attacked Lawlor and abducted him before Lawlor escaped.

Lawlor also teamed with the Von Erichs (Ross & Marshall) in a tornado six-man tag match against Contra Unit at last week’s tapings.

Lawlor has been MLW World Champion since winning the title from Low Ki in February.

Kings of Colosseum will feature a double main event, with Dr. Wagner Jr. & El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. LA Park & El Hijo de LA Park also set.
