Impact Wrestling live results: Josh Alexander vs. KENTA

For the first time in the AXS TV era, Impact Wrestling will go live Thursday for a special edition, priming fans for the Impact x NJPW Multiverse United pay-per-view happening directly afterward.

While the show will preview the live PPV from Los Angeles, several never-before-seen matches will take place including one between now-former Impact World Champion Josh Alexander and KENTA from their Las Vegas tapings.

Alexander had to relinquish the title last week due to a torn triceps while KENTA will defend his NJPW Strong title against Minoru Suzuki on the PPV.

In another match featuring someone not on the show, Will Ospreay will take on Homicide. Ospreay had to pull out due to a shoulder injury as Hiroshi Tanahashi will take his place against “Speedball” Mike Bailey Friday.

Miyu Yamashita will also make her Impact in-ring debut while the BTI pre-show will see Brian Myers against Jack Price.

BFI Preshow

George Iceman told us that Mickie James was in Los Angeles for Impact x NJPW Multiverse United tonight, and he speculated what role she would have on the show.

Brian Myers defeated Jack Price

This was a good match, with Myers doing a great job getting heat for Price’s comeback. At some point, the fans spontaneously started chanting “The Price is right!” getting into his comeback. This was a good showing for Price, who could be something if they decide to push him. He’s good in the ring, has a good look, and can get the crowd behind him. Myers did a great job being the heel foil for him though, necking him on the ropes and then hitting a Roster Cut for the pinfall.

Main Show

This episode of Impact featured a lot of recap videos from NJPW and Impact both highlighting the matches leading into the PPV. The first 30 minutes of the show featured that with the occasional commentary from Fred Rosser and others about the show, who is wrestling, and the stories of the characters heading into the matches. It would have been good to have character videos like this for a few weeks heading into this show to give the matches a bit more of an emotional stake.

–A Jody Threat video aired, as she discussed her upbringing and taking what she wants by force, debuting next week.

–Mickie James joined the studio to discuss her injury.

Miyu Yamashita defeated Killer Kelly

Very solid match here. Yamashita looked good in her Impact debut, and Killer Kelly didn’t lose a thing in losing here, as she was able to get a ton in and looked like she just barely lost. Getting over in losing!

Yamashita got a great reaction from the Canadian audience, feeling right at home. Yamashita was not intimidated by Kelly at all. Yamashita and Kelly exchanged strike attempts early on, before Yamashita decided to take it to the ground with submissions where Kelly is comfortable. Kelly trapped the arms of Yamashita and hit capture headbutts before suplexing Yamashita into the corner and hitting a dropkick for 2.

Yamashita and Kelly exchanged hard forearms in the middle of the ring before both went down and rolled to the floor. The crowd applauded loudly for it. Kelly and Yamashita hit hard kicks outside the ring, ending with Kelly hitting a PK from the apron. Kelly hit a fisherman’s suplex for a 2-count.

Kelly kicked the legs out from under Yamashita and locked on the Killer clutch, but Yamashita rolled out of it and picked Kelly up with a deadlift German suplex before hitting the skull kick for the pinfall.

–A hype video and promos aired for Moose and Jeff Cobb.

Impact World Champion Josh Alexander defeated KENTA to retain

Man, Impact is going to miss Josh Alexander while he is out with injury because this match was fantastic. KENTA brought it in this one, working a main event level match, and Alexander did everything to make him look good in losing, showing KENTA as the legend he is. This will be overshadowed by Alexander’s injury and the Multiverse United show taking place after, but it is worth watching regardless, as it was likely Alexander’s last title defence before his injury.

This match was taped prior to Alexander’s injury and surgery. KENTA immediately went to the eyes of Alexander and both men started exchanging holds. As soon as KENTA got caught in an ankle lock, he grabbed the ropes and hit a drop toe hold to start getting the heat on Alexander. When they came back from break both men were exchanging hard strikes, ending when KENTA hit a series of hard kicks that sent Alexander to the floor.

KENTA sent Alexander face first into the ring post. KENTA hit a hard kick to the back and then a knee drop to Alexander. KENTA weakly kicked Alexander to taunt him before hitting some hard ones to the chest. Both men then exchanged hard strikes. Alexander hit a rolling fireman’s carry, which Hannifan called a senton, for a 2-count. Alexander went for a German suplex and KENTA ripped off the turnbuckle trying to block it.

KENTA went for a tornado DDT, but went over to the apron, necking Alexander on the ropes and then went for a crossface, but Alexander made the ropes. KENTA continued to hit hard kicks, but Alexander drove KENTA back to the corner. As they came back from break, Alexander was attempting to hit the C4 Spike but KENTA responded with hard strikes to break out, and then both men hit strikes at the same time and went down.

KENTA and Alexander exchanged hard strikes before KENTA was able to hit the draping DDT on Alexander. KENTA hit a Mafia kick in the corner and then a hesitation dropkick followed by the flying double stomp for a 2-count. KENTA called for Go to Sleep, but Alexander slipped out. KENTA responded with hard palm strikes, rocking Alexander. KENTA went for Go to Sleep again, but Alexander caught the leg and went to the ankle lock.

KENTA rolled out and sent Alexander into the exposed turnbuckle that KENTA accidentally exposed earlier for a 2-count. KENTA hit the Busaiku knee for a 2-count. KENTA hit a spinning back fist, but Alexander responded with hard strikes of his own before finally hitting the C4 Spike. This match was awesome.

Impact Wrestling live results: Josh Alexander, KENTA in trios action

Impact World Champion Josh Alexander and KENTA will be on opposite sides of an all-star trios match on Thursday’s Impact on AXS TV.

Alexander will team with former champions Rich Swann and Frankie Kazarian as they take on Bullet Club’s KENTA, Ace Austin and Chris Bey. Alexander, Swann and Kazarian will battle Time Machine (KUSHIDA & Motor City Machine Guns) at next Friday’s Sacrifice.

The Knockouts Tag Team titles will be on the line as The Death Dollz (Taya Valkyrie & Jessicka) defend against The Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde). Valkyrie debuted with AEW on Wednesday while King was announced as signing an exclusive contract with Impact last week.

Steve Maclin, the next challenger for the aforementioned Alexander, will take on Heath in singles action.

Past opponents will reunite as “Speedball” Mike Bailey will team with Jonathan Gresham to take on Decay’s Crazzy Steve and Black Taurus.

The BTI pre-show will feature Zicky Dice against Champagne Singh.

**********

BTI pre-show: Champagne Singh defeated Zicky Dice

This week’s show was taped in Las Vegas, Nevada, as Impact continues their road to Sacrifice next Friday in London, Ontario, Canada.

Mike Bailey & Jonathan Gresham defeated Decay (Crazzy Steve & Black Taurus)

Bailey and Gresham previously went to battle, but have teamed before. Steve is coming off a loss to X-Division Champion Trey Miguel in a Monster’s Ball match while Taurus just continues to do his thing in the lower mid-card.

This was basically Bailey and Gresham getting beat down until they made hot tags. After things broke down and several near falls, Bailey hit Ultima Weapon on Taurus to get the pin and win. They continued their uneasy alliance with a handshake and hard arm pats afterward. Foreshadowing!

– Gia Miller caught up with Impact World Champion Josh Alexander, Frankie Kazarian and Rich Swann ahead of their trios debut tonight against Bullet Club and Time Machine next Sacrifice. Steve Maclin walked in and tried to stir things up between them.

– Gisele Shaw talked to Miller and complained about how she lost to Knockouts Champion Mickie James and how Deonna Purrazzo is jealous of her. In walked Johnny Swinger and Zicky Dice for some “comedy” which is setting up Swinger vs. Jai Vidal tonight. Buckle up.

Steve Maclin defeated Heath

Maclin is looking ahead to his long-awaited title match with Alexander at next month’s Rebellion while Heath is back in singles action after his run with Rhino.

Maclin was rolling until Heath made a comeback. He made a mistake and Maclin hit the KIA (double-arm DDT) for the pin and win.

– The Death Dollz (Taya Valkyrie, Jessicka and Rosemary) were backstage getting excited for their Knockouts Tag Team title defense against The Coven. Valkyrie talked Jessicka into doing something else (because she is scared of magic) so she and Rosemary could defend the titles tonight instead. Alright, then.

– PCO was shown dragging a shovel through Las Vegas yelling for Eddie Edwards after the events of last week.

– Bailey was about to leave and Gresham walked up and engaged him, saying he didn’t know he had such a great sidekick. Bailey then said he hasn’t forgotten about their first match when Gresham won and challenged him to a rematch at Sacrifice. Gresham accepted, so we’re on.

Jai Vidal (w/ Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans) defeated Johnny Swinger (w/ Zicky Dice)

This was a lot of comedy, but Vidal looked pretty good in there. He just hasn’t got much of an in-ring opportunity in Impact just yet.

Dice got tossed when he was caught grabbing Vidal’s leg followed by Evans and Shaw getting ejected after Evans dragged Swinger outside the ring. Deonna Purrazzo then attacked Shaw from behind before getting knocked by Evans, leading to security breaking everyone up.

Back in the ring, Vidal landed a leaping kick on Swinger to get the pin and win.

– The Design (Deaner, Angels and Kon) delivered a message explaining how Callihan hadn’t passed step six despite defeating Rhino last week. Callihan then entered the frame very upset and Deaner explained step six was to take a beating like a man. He then said they didn’t forget that Callihan cost Kon a match against Frankie Kazarian at No Surrender and asked if he was willing to take that beating. Callihan obliged so you can look forward to that.

– PCO arrived outside Sam’s Town, still screaming “Eddiiiieeee!!!”

– Tommy Dreamer was chatting with someone backstage when Mickie James interrupted as she learned she and Dreamer were taking on Bully Ray and Masha Slamovich next week. Jordynne Grace then walked in and asked James if it was a good idea about her taking the match before their rematch at Sacrifice. James didn’t have a good answer.

Eddie Edwards promo

Edwards said it’s time to focus on his future and for all of this business with PCO to come to an end. He said after last week (when someone ran PCO over with a car), it’s officially over. After the footage aired, the arena went black and PCO’s entrance played. As he came out, Kenny King attacked from behind with a shovel. King and Edwards then delivered a back suplex, but PCO came back alive as they walked away and attacked both men.

The numbers game caught up to PCO as he was bloodied up by a chair, pinned behind the steps and held there by both men for a beating until he rallied again. Edwards eventually slowed him down with a kendo stock and a Boston Knee Party with a chair as King helped out. The final shot was a kendo stick into the chair as it laid on his head.

– Santino Marella was with former WWE star Vladimir Kozlov who was very excited. Dirty Dango walked in as Kozlov walked away, but Marella cautioned him that he couldn’t say his name as it was trademarked unlike his.

Digital Media Champion Joe Hendry then walked in and decided to invoke the rematch clause on behalf of Brian Myers for Sacrifice so he could get revenge on him. Dango said he was a bit starstruck and offered his help to Hendry anytime, leading to Marella making Hendry & Dango vs. Myers & Moose for next week.

The Coven defeated The Death Dollz (Rosemary & Taya Valkyrie) (w/ Jessicka) to win the Knockouts Tag Team titles

I learned the Dollz were the longest-reigning female-only Knockouts Tag Team Champions of all time at more than 160 days. The more you know, huh?

The stip here: if the Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde) lost the match, they would have to stop practicing witchcraft. Has that ever been a stip in a match ever? Wilde was looking through tarot cards while standing on the ring apron, perhaps for the last time.

The outcome wasn’t really in doubt given Valkyrie’s debut on AEW Dynamite Wednesday, followed by the news she signed a Khantract. Also, Impact announced King signed an exclusive deal this week.

King got the clean pin after hitting her impressive Kingdom Falls on Valkyrie to win the titles. I am going to guess there’s some kind of storyline ending to Valkyrie next week. I mean, she was sent to prison after she admitting to shooting John E. Bravo the last time, right?

– Two new matches were made official for Sacrifice: Bailey vs. Gresham II and Hendry vs. Myers II for the Digital Media title.

– They also revealed that the Thursday March 30th Impact will be a special live edition counting down to the Impact x NJPW Multiverse United event starting right afterward on PPV. The show will feature Josh Alexander vs. KENTA which took place at these same Las Vegas tapings.

Bullet Club (KENTA, Ace Austin & Chris Bey) defeated Josh Alexander, Frankie Kazarian & Rich Swann

All six men have plenty of action coming up at both Sacrifice and Multiverse United. Austin & Bey are the Impact Tag Team titles, Alexander is the Impact World Champion and KENTA is the NJPW Strong Champion.

The mood changed a bit when Alexander and KENTA got in there for a few minutes. The babyfaces stood tall going into the commercial break, but Swann got into trouble afterward, leading to the Bullet Club running roughshod through the middle portion.

Kazarian got the hot tag and did his thing, taking out everyone including a double DDT on the tag team champions. As Bey got the advantage, Alexander got the hot tag and dished out some punishment to Bey, punctuated with a power bomb onto his knee for a near fall.

Things broke down as expected with action spilling to the outside. In a really cool spot, Kazarian hit a cutter on Bey as he springboarded over the top onto the mass of wrestlers.

Let’s just watch it together:

Things again broke down back inside the ring and as Alexander was about deliver the C4 on Austin, he got distracted by Maclin watching from afar. KENTA took him out and Swann got taken out by Bey’s The Art of the Finesse and Austin’s The Fold to give Bullet Club the win.

Next Week:

  • Bully Ray & Masha Slamovich vs. Mickie James & Tommy Dreamer
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. Savannah Evans
  • Moose & Brian Myers vs. Joe Hendry & Dirty Dango
  • The Design (Deaner, Kon & Angels) vs. Time Machine (KUSHIDA & Motor City Machine Guns)

Trios bout, Knockouts Tag Team title defense set for next Impact

Next Thursday’s Impact on AXS will feature a high-profile trios match in addition to a Knockouts Tag Team title match.

Impact World Champion Josh Alexander, Rich Swann & Frankie Kazarian will unite against Bullet Club’s KENTA, Chris Bey & Ace Austin.

This was made on this week’s show when Alexander, Swann and Kazarian decided to team up at this month’s Sacrifice streaming special. Later on, Bullet Club were walking around backstage when they challenged the babyface trio to a match next week.

Alexander’s title challenger at April’s Rebellion, Steve Maclin, will be in action against Heath.

Knockouts Tag Team Champions The Death Dollz (Taya Valkyrie & Jessicka) will defend against The Coven (Taylor Wilde & KiLynn King). This was made Thursday when all parties involved, including Rosemary, got into a disagreement over Wilde & King’s use of witchcraft, leading to an additional stipulation that If the Dollz win, Wilde & King have to stop performing it.

Past foes “Speedball” Mike Bailey & Jonathan Gresham will reunite to take on Decay’s Black Taurus & Crazzy Steve.

Here’s the current lineup:

  • Impact Knockouts Champions The Death Dollz defend against The Coven
  • Jonathan Gresham & Mike Bailey vs. Decay
  • Steve Maclin vs. Heath
  • Bullet Club (KENTA, Chris Bey & Ace Austin) vs. Josh Alexander, Rich Swann & Frankie Kazarian

On Monday, another KENTA match was announced as he will take on “Speedball” Mike Bailey on the Saturday taping. Bailey will face Jonathan Gresham on the No Surrender pre-show.

KENTA’s appearance is the latest in a line of NJPW stars to appear in Impact which includes Tomohiro Ishii, Aussie Open, Jay White, El Phantasmo and more.

The NJPW star will join his Bullet Club teammates Ace Austin and Chris Bey to take on Impact & NJPW Strong Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns & KUSHIDA after a challenge was made on Thursday’s Impact on AXS.

That wasn’t the only new match added to the Friday, February 24th special from Las Vegas, Nevada.

After a backstage confrontation involving food being dumped on Gisele Shaw’s head, Impact Director of Authority Santino Marella booked Shaw to face former Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo. The match will be part of the pre-show.

PCO and Brian Myers both advanced to the no. 1 contender’s four-way match by winning qualifying matches on Thursday. Two final qualifiers are set for next Thursday as Steve Maclin faces Rhino while Eddie Edwards takes on Heath.

Two matches that weren’t made official but are likely to be based on challenges issued and accepted: Jonathan Gresham vs. “Speedball’ Mike Bailey after Bailey accepted the challenge on Thursday’s pre-show, and Frankie Kazarian vs. Kon of The Design after Kazarian issued him a challenge Thursday.

NJPW Strong results: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Roppongi Vice

West Coast Wrecking Crew (Royce Isaacs & Jorel Nelson) defeated C4 (Cody Chhun & Guillermo Rosas)

C4 is a younger team from DEFY Wrestling based in the Pacific Northwest who have actually squared off with WCWC in DEFY over the years. There were some nice chants going for C4 early on.

On commentary, Kevin Kelly shouted out Jim Valley of F4W, who also happens to take on announce duties at DEFY from time to time.

There was a point in this match where Isaacs, who was outside the ring, hoisted Chhun up in the air with a stalling vertical suplex and proceeded to walk with Chuun around the ring before dropping him on the floor, and in stereo with Nelson to boot. Nelson used a stalling vertical suplex of his own on Rosas and synched the slam with Isaacs’ on the floor.

Nelson lifted Chhun up into a power bomb hold and looked like he was about to pass Chhun off to Nelson, as the Wrecking Crew is known for their creative tag team offense. Instead, Chhun countered with a hurricanrana, which sent Nelson flying into Isaacs with an inadvertent spear. Chhun tagged out to Rosas, and the two hit an assisted Liger bomb on Nelson for two. Rosas got fired up and shook the ropes like Ultimate Warrior. Chhun hit a backspring cutter before diving out of the ring with a tope.

Nelson caught Chhun with a fisherman’s buster for two. Isaacs later put Chhun down with a dominator before Nelson came off the top rope and hit Chhun with a diving elbow drop. Isaacs was the legal man, so he pinned Chhun to pick up the three-count for WCWC.

KENTA defeated QT Marshall

This was good, and it sounded to be a real crowd-pleaser of a match. The crowd was loud in their support of KENTA in his debut at The Vermont Hollywood. They relished KENTA’s heelish antics, like cheap-shotting QT Marshall in the face with a slap coming off a rope break. Marshall was basically doing Heel 101 and delivered. He was perfect in giving the crowd everything they *didn’t* want from this match.

After almost five minutes of ring introductions and general jaw-jacking, the match was finally underway. It was a total “KENTA fan service” match in that he got dozens of moments to shine and do his signature spots. It was exactly the kind of match a fan should expect.

In the end, KENTA hit Go 2 Sleep on Marshall for the win. He basked in the “KENTA!” calls before heading to the back. This was a good one.

STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship Match: Motor City Machine Guns (c) defeated Roppongi Vice

Sabin and Beretta kicked things off. After a nice exchange, Sabin offered Beretta a sportsman-like hug, then quickly turned it into a sneaky school boy cradle for two. Sabin then walked over to his corner and hugged Shelley before tagging him in. Beretta would also tag Romero into the match.

Romero and Shelley would later have a short dance-off which saw Shelley bust out a bit of the “Ravishing” Rick Rude hip swirl. It was all a ploy from Romero, though, the self-proclaimed “King of Sneaky Style”. We should have known. While in mid-swivel, Rocky tripped Shelley up and slapped on an ankle hold.

MCMG played heel to Roppongi Vice’s hometown babyface. They wrestled with a bit of an edge, more so than usual.

Beretta was able to swing the momentum back his way and trapped Sabin in the corner and began chopping him. This was right before he’d spike Sabin with a jumping piledriver for two. Beretta went for another piledriver on the apron, but Sabin back body dropped him onto the apron instead, where Beretta would ultimately crash onto the floor.

“Come on, you son of a bitch!” Shelley shouted at Romero. The two started decking each other. MCMG would later catch Beretta with a double superkick to the head while he stood on the floor. When MCMG went for a dive, Roppongi Vice blocked it with a double jumping knee. They hit Strong Zero on Sabin for two. Sabin landed a power bomb for two. He caught Beretta with a huge kick to the face in the corner. MCMG landed a power bomb/sliced bread double team maneuver from the top on Beretta but again, only for two. They did Roppongi’s Dudebuster + dropkick combo finish and *again* a count of two. The crowd was chanting “RO-PON-GI!” over and over.

The finish saw MCMG hit their finisher on Romero for the pinfall in 18:12. As one would imagine, this was a very good match. The Machine Guns retain their tag titles.

Final thoughts:

It was one more solid episode of Strong tonight, with a lot of tag team action plus a really good story match between KENTA and QT Marshall. The main event between MCMG and Roppongi Vice stole the show, though.

NJPW Strong results: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Stray Dog Army

Tonight saw the next set of Detonation tapings from Hollywood, California.

Bateman of Stray Dog Army appeared at the top of the show with Ian Riccaboni & Alex Koslov. He talked about his match on the show against newcomer Jakob Austin Young. Bateman mentioned that the two had wrestled long ago, and that tonight he’d be checking to see how much “love” is in Austin’s violence these days.

Bateman defeated Jakob Austin Young

Bateman bullied Young for a long while until Austin connected with a leg lariat after a few minutes. The crowd then got behind Bateman, the heel, chanting “Let’s go Bateman” when Austin would get in any offense. Young hit a back suplex for a count of two. In the end, Bateman put Young away with a tombstone piledriver for the win.

KENTA defeated Bad Dude Tito

This was good. KENTA got a great reaction on his way to the ring. Early on, Tito bullied KENTA, knocking him off his feet with shoulder blocks and shouting things like “You’re too small!!” and “Too much power!!”

Throughout the match, KENTA targeted Tito’s knees and worked them over for a good while. Later, he smashed Tito with big kicks to his chest. Tito would return with a short kick to KENTA’s breadbasket followed by a nice spinning enzuigiri to the back of the head. KENTA would take Tito off his feet again with a dragon screw leg whip, then blast him with a big basement dropkick in the corner, Shibata-style.

When KENTA went for the GTS, Tito reversed it into a Blue Thunder for two. The finish saw KENTA grab the ref while Tito held him in a fireman’s carry. He used this moment to slip out of Tito’s clutch, and then, behind the ref’s back, kicked Tito in the groin then cradled him for the hollow victory. I’d love to see another one between these two next year.

Emily Mae interviewed STRONG Openweight Champion Fred Rosser and talked about his upcoming title defense against JR Kratos, who didn’t reveal his full gameplan, though he did mention that he was planning to run Kratos’ gas tank down to empty. They’ll face off in the main event on next week’s episode.

STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship: Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) (c) defeated Stray Dog Army (Barrett Brown & Misterioso)

Motor City Machine Guns, the second tag team champions, took on Stray Dog Army, who recently won their number-one contender match to earn their title shot this week.

After about five minutes, the Stray Dog Army took control. Brown finally tagged out to Misterioso, who quickly dove onto Sabin on the floor then hit a slingshot double-knee drop onto Shelley in the ring. Later, Stray Dog Army double-teamed Shelley, with Brown connecting with a basement dropkick before Misterioso used a quebrada in the ring for two.

When Misterioso went for a second-rope moonsault, Shelley got his knees up and Misterioso crashed into them. Shelley tagged Sabin in and Misterioso tagged Brown. Sabin caught Brown with a huge tornado DDT for two. They did an assisted flatliner to Brown for another close nearfall.

Brown did a dive onto MCMG onto the floor and Misterioso followed up with a big Asai moonsault. He followed up back in the ring with a guillotine legdrop onto Sabin for two.

In the end, MCMG put Brown away with the Dirty Bomb in 12:11 to pick up the win and successfully retain their tag titles.

Final thoughts:

This was a short but solid episode of Strong, with KENTA and Bad Dude Tito and the main event tag match being the highlights of the show this week.

The next set of matches from Detonation will air next week and features Fred Rosser defending his STRONG Openweight championship against Team Filthy’s JR Kratos.

KUSHIDA, KENTA return matches announced for NJPW Road

KUSHIDA and KENTA are returning to in-ring action on New Japan Road shows set for next month.

NJPW announced tonight that KUSHIDA’s first match back will be on July 3, when he teams with Hiroshi Tanahashi and Alex Zayne to take on KENTA in his first match back since January, Taiji Ishimori, and Gedo. On July 4, he will team with Tanahashi to take on KENTA and Taiji Ishimori in a singles match.

KUSHIDA made his return to NJPW on Tuesday morning, when he challenged Taiji Ishimori after he successfully defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Hiromu Takahashi. Ishimori told KUSHIDA he needed to win a few matches before challenging him and left.

KENTA has been out of action since January after suffering injuries in a match against Hiroshi Tanahashi. He has since been announced for next month’s G1 Climax 32 tournament.

Alex Coughlin and The DKC of the LA Dojo will also join the tour, teaming with Clark Connors to take on Taichi, El Desperado, and DOUKI on July 4. The trio will then face Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, and Alex Zayne on July 5.

KENTA returns to NJPW at BOSJ finals

KENTA is back in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The 41-year-old returned to the promotion at the Best of the Super Juniors finals on Friday, June 3.

Jay White cut a promo before the semi final match of the evening and announced KENTA’s return.

“Now, I know we’re a little shorthanded today. Unfortunately, ‘The Machine Gun’ Karl Anderson, he couldn’t make it. Unfortunately, Juice Robinson couldn’t make it either. But, I do have one surprise,” White said before KENTA’s music hit and he made his way to the ring.

KENTA has been out of action since his Wrestle Kingdom 16 match against Hiroshi Tanahashi on January 5. NJPW revealed that he “sustained a dislocated left hip, a broken nose, tendon damage to his finger, and severe lacerations to his back” during the bout.

Bullet Club also added a new member to the group at the BOSJ finals. Earlier in the night, Impact X-Division Champion Ace Austin joined the faction. He distracted Aaron Henare from the ring apron during the Bullet Club vs. United Empire six man tag match, allowing El Phantasmo to hit a super kick and CRII for the win.

KENTA injured, off NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 16 night three

Due to injury, KENTA is off night three of Wrestle Kingdom 16.

NJPW has announced that KENTA is unable to compete at the final night of Wrestle Kingdom 16 due to sustaining multiple injuries. KENTA has a dislocated left hip, a broken nose, tendon damage to his finger, and several lacerations to his back.

“After his match on January 5 in the Tokyo Dome, KENTA has sustained a dislocated left hip, a broken nose, tendon damage to his finger, and severe lacerations to his back,” NJPW wrote.

“As a result, he will not be cleared to participate at Wrestle Kingdom 16 in Yokohama Arena Saturday January 8. We apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing KENTA wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.”

KENTA lost the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi in a no disqualification match at Wrestle Kingdom 16 night two. Near the end of the match, there was a scary moment where KENTA was sent off a ladder and his face was busted open when he hit a trash can. Tanahashi then won the match by giving KENTA a High Fly Flow off a ladder and through a table.

KENTA was set to team with Takashi Sugiura & Kazushi Sakuraba in a six-man tag match against Minoru Suzuki, Taichi & Taka Michinoku at Wrestle Kingdom night three. A mystery partner will be replacing KENTA in the match.

NJPW vs. Pro Wrestling NOAH is the theme of Wrestle Kingdom night three. The show, which begins at 3 a.m. Eastern time this Saturday, will be available via Abema pay-per-view.
