NJPW crowns winner of G1 Climax 32

Kazuchika Okada has won the G1 Climax 32.

He defeated Will Ospreay in the finals of the tournament on Thursday from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. It’s his fourth time winning the G1 and second in a row. 

Okada’s G1 victories have taken place in 2012, 2014, 2021, and now 2022. He sits one behind Masahiro Chono for the all-time record. Chono has won the tournament five times, with his victories coming in 1991, 1992, 1994, 2002, and 2005. Okada’s victory also moves him ahead of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hiroyoshi Tenzan who have each won the tournament on three occasions. 

When results from the World League, IWGP League, and MSG League from 1974 to 1989 are factored in, Antonio Inoki holds the record with 10 tournament victories. 

Okada finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with five wins. His only loss came to JONAH on night 13. He then defeated Tama Tonga in the semifinals before moving on to face Ospreay in the finals.

Finals set for NJPW G1 Climax 32

The finals of the G1 Climax 32 are set. 

The tournament semifinals took place on Tuesday from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan. 

In the night’s first semifinal match, Kazuchika Okada defeated Tama Tonga to advance to tomorrow’s finals. He’ll face Will Ospreay, who defeated Tetsuya Naito in Wednesday’s second semifinal match. 

Okada, who won the tournament last year, will be looking for his fourth victory in a G1. Masahiro Chono holds the record with five G1 victories. 

This is Ospreay’s third G1 tournament. Prior to this year, he had not made it past the group stage. 

Ospreay vs. Okada in the finals of the G1 Climax 32 will take place Thursday from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

NJPW G1 Climax 32 block winners determined, semifinals set

The G1 Climax 32 group stage has concluded, the block winners have been determined, and the semifinals are set. 

The final night of the round-robin portion of the tournament took place on Tuesday from Nagano. 

Kazuchika Okada clinched the A Block with a win over Lance Archer in the main event. Had Okada lost, a three-way tie atop the group would have seen Archer advance as he would have held wins over both Okada and JONAH. 

Jay White went into Tuesday’s show needing only one point to clinch the B Block. Tama Tonga handed him his first loss of the tournament, however. Both Tonga and White finished the tournament with 10 points and Tonga advances on the head-to-head tie-breaker. 

Tetsuya Naito came all the way back to pick up eight points and clinch the C Block. He defeated Zack Sabre Jr. on Tuesday to tie him in the standings and advance on the tie-breaker. 

Will Ospreay needed to win and get some help on Tuesday to advance. He defeated Juice Robinson in the night’s first match and then clinched the group after El Phantasmo defeated Shingo Takagi to take him out of the running. 

Okada vs. Tonga, and Ospreay vs. Naito will take place on tomorrow’s show.

Jay White removed from NJPW events due to ‘heat stroke-like symptoms’

Jay White has been removed from two upcoming NJPW events due to heat-stroke symptoms. 

NJPW revealed on Tuesday that White will miss the August 9 & 10 events from Hiroshima. 

“Jay White, who was scheduled to wrestle in Hiroshima Sun Plaza Hall this evening, has been affected by heat stroke like symptoms and as a result will be removed from August 9 and 10 cards due to an abundance of caution. As an additional precautionary measure, White has undertaken COVID antigen testing, which has returned negative,” reads NJPW1972.com. 

White was not scheduled for any tournament matches on either show. His next tournament match is scheduled for August 16 against Tama Tonga. He currently sits atop the B Block with eight points and a perfect 4-0 record. 

On August 9, White was scheduled to team with Gedo, Bad Luck Fale & Juice Robinson to face Toru Yano, Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Hirooki Goto. That match has now been changed to Okada, Tanahashi & Goto vs. Gedo, Fale & Robinson.

On August 10, White was scheduled to team with KENTA and Robinson against Lance Archer, Taichi, & TAKA Michinoku. He will now be replaced by Gedo in the match.
