JD McDonagh suffered broken ribs, punctured lung in WWE Raw match

UPDATE:

JD McDonagh posted on social media regarding his status, writing he’ll be out a couple of months due to broken ribs and a punctured lung he suffered during a match on Raw.

“All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I’m grateful for that. See ya in a bit,” he wrote.

An update on JD McDonagh following Raw.

Bryan Alvarez is reporting that McDonagh was taken to the hospital following his match against The Viking Raiders on Monday’s show. Despite a notable spot involving McDonagh’s neck whiplashing against the announce table, the main concern appears to be McDonagh’s ribs.

The spot involving McDonagh’s neck occurred during a World Tag Team title match involving McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio taking on champions The War Raiders. McDonagh went for a springboard moonsault off the middle rope to the floor and landed on Ivar, but in the process landed neck first on the announce table. He was checked on by doctors during a commercial break but waved them off.

McDonagh continued to work the match, which eventually led to his and Mysterio’s loss after Mysterio was pinned with the War Machine, keeping the titles on the new champions.

The War Raiders won the titles from Finn Balor and McDonagh on the December 16 edition of Raw. Since then, the Judgment Day had been looking to reclaim the titles.

War Raiders win World Tag Team titles on WWE Raw

War Raiders have won the gold.

Ivar & Erik defeated Finn Balor and JD McDonagh in the main event of Raw on Monday to win the titles for a second time. The finish had Balor looking to use a steel chair, attempting to grab one on the outside. However, Damian Priest grabbed the chair from ringside, causing a distraction as Balor went back to the ring. That allowed the War Raiders to hit the War Machine on Balor for the win. The duo celebrated with a big pyro celebration to close out the show.

The War Raiders previously earned a World Tag Team title match on the November 25 edition of Raw thanks to interference by Judgment Day. On last week’s episode, Adam Pearce told Balor & McDonagh that the War Raiders would get another shot at the titles, but this time their fellow teammates would be barred from ringside.

After Balor interfered in his World Heavyweight title match at Survivor Series, Gunther challenged Balor to a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, putting the title on the line. After Balor laid out both Priest and Gunther, Priest was added to the title match that saw Gunther retain after pinning Balor with a powerbomb.

CM Punk return, Judgment Day tag title defense set for next WWE Raw

After not appearing tonight, CM Punk will be back on WWE Raw next week.

Punk was off tonight’s Raw selling the effects of the beatdown he took from Drew McIntyre last week. WWE has announced that Punk will return to the show next Monday, appearing for the first time since it was confirmed that Punk vs. McIntyre in a Hell in a Cell match will take place at Bad Blood 2024.

Their Hell in a Cell match was announced tonight by Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, who told McIntyre that the feud between him and Punk needs to end. Upset over losing to Punk in a strap match at Bash in Berlin, McIntyre attacked Punk in an angle on Raw last week — causing Punk to get taken out in an ambulance. McIntyre also destroyed Punk’s bracelet that had the names of his wife and dog on it.

Bad Blood is taking place on Saturday, October 5. Punk and McIntyre have a 1-1 record against each other heading into the PLE.

The Moda Center in Portland, Oregon is the venue for next Monday’s Raw. A World Tag Team title match between Finn Balor & JD McDonagh and The New Day is also set. It will be the first televised title defense Balor & McDonagh have made since becoming champions in June.

WWE Raw (Monday, September 16) —

  • CM Punk returns
  • World Tag Team Champions The Judgment Day (Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) defend against New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods)

Finn Balor & JD McDonagh announced for OTT 10th Anniversary

Ireland’s Over the Top Wrestling is bringing in WWE’s World Tag Team Champions.

At OTT Scrappermania VIII night two on Saturday, a video aired announcing Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for the promotion’s 10th Anniversary show on October 26 at Dublin’s National Stadium.

“Through grit, determination, and heart, these men and women have left it all on our canvas to get us to where we are today. But soon, they will meet their Judgment Day.”

McDonagh was the inaugural OTT World Champion, having won the title in 2018. He would lose it to Gunther later that same year. He returned to the promotion for one night at Scrappermania VI in 2022, losing a match to Mark Haskins.

Today’s show is the second of three straight the promotion is running this weekend. Last night in Wolverhampton had Trent Seven defending the OTT World title over Trevor Lee and Nic Nemeth beating Man Like deReiss. Today’s show has a match between Robbie X and Mike Bailey as well as Danhausen challenging Renzo Rose for the No Limits title.

Finn Balor & JD McDonagh win World Tag Team titles on WWE Raw

New World Tag Team Champions were crowned on WWE Raw.

Finn Balor & JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day defeated The Awesome Truth (R-Truth & The Miz) to win the World Tag Team titles on Raw. The finish came when Liv Morgan, who was at ringside, distracted R-Truth, eventually turning on him by slinging his neck on the top rope and allowing Balor to pin him with the coup de grace.

Morgan in recent weeks has tried to seduce Dominik Mysterio, attempting to win his favor by helping The Judgment Day. Earlier on Raw, she convinced R-Truth to give Balor & McDonagh a title match, much to the chagrin of The Miz. Later, she was seen walking out of The Judgment Day locker room. Damien Priest walked into the room and saw Finn Balor all by himself, who reacted by saying nothing shady had happened between them.

Awesome Truth won the Raw Tag Team titles back at WrestleMania 40 in a ladder match that was also for the SmackDown Tag Team titles, which were seperated after Grayson Waller & Austin Theory grabbed the SmackDown Tag Team titles. Following the match, the Raw Tag Team titles were renamed the World Tag Team titles, with The Awesome Truth being given new championship belts.

Braun Strowman set for first WWE Raw match in more than a year

On Raw next week, Braun Strowman will compete in his first televised WWE match in more than a year.

WWE has announced that Strowman vs. JD McDonagh will take place on Raw next Monday (May 27). After undergoing neck fusion surgery in June 2023, Strowman made his return to WWE TV three weeks ago and was selected by Raw in the WWE Draft.

Strowman has been feuding with The Judgment Day since his return. He got involved when Judgment Day’s McDonagh & Finn Balor challenged Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) for the World Tag Team titles on Raw last night. After Carlito interfered for Judgment Day, Strowman helped Awesome Truth retain their titles. R-Truth pinned McDonagh after McDonagh ran away from Strowman.

Later in the show, there was a segment where Damian Priest told McDonagh to go to general manager Adam Pearce and ask for a match against Strowman next week. The match was confirmed with Strowman accepting McDonagh’s challenge on Raw Talk.

Strowman made his in-ring return in a dark match at a SmackDown event earlier this month, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura.

EnMarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia is the venue for next Monday’s Raw. It’s taking place on Memorial Day and will feature Raw’s fallout from WWE King & Queen of the Ring.

New World Tag Team title number one contenders crowned on WWE Raw

JD McDonagh & Finn Balor are getting a title match.

Balor & McDonagh became the new number one contenders for the World Tag Team titles, defeating Authors of Pain, New Catch Republic, and The Creed Brothers. The finish had Carlito interfere in the match, giving Pete Dunne the backstabber before throwing him back in the ring. Balor then followed up with the coup de grace for the win.

Since being drafted to Raw, Carlito has been attempting to join The Judgment Day. Damian Priest, however, wants nothing to do with him due to his interference in the Puerto Rican Street Fight that took place at last year’s Backlash. Earlier on Raw, Carlito was shunned by Priest, who wanted nothing to do with him. However, he appeared to be warming up to him after Balor & McDonagh became the new number one contenders.

The current World Tag Team Champions are The Miz and R-Truth, who won the titles during the ladder match that took place at WrestleMania 40.

JD McDonagh advances in WWE Speed title tournament

Judgment Day member JD McDonagh is heading to the next round of the WWE Speed Championship tournament.

After premiering last week, a new episode of WWE Speed debuted on X/Twitter on Wednesday. It featured one match with McDonagh defeating Axiom. McDonagh is now set for a matchup against Ricochet in the semifinals of WWE’s tournament to crown the inaugural Speed Champion.

Matches on WWE Speed have a three-minute time limit. McDonagh vs. Axiom ended with 36 seconds left on the clock. McDonagh connected with a headbutt before falling on top of Axiom to get the pinfall victory.

The McDonagh vs. Axiom match was taped before last Friday’s SmackDown in Philadelphia.

It was announced that a first-round match between Johnny Gargano and Angel will air on WWE Speed next Wednesday. The winner of that match advances to face Bronson Reed in the tournament semifinals.

Last week, Ricochet defeated Dragon Lee and Reed defeated Cedric Alexander in the first two Speed matches.

WWE and X’s partnership for WWE Speed is a two-year deal with the show airing weekly.

Ricochet vs. JD McDonagh set for next WWE Raw

JD McDonagh and Ricochet will meet on next week’s Raw.

Despite having McDonagh in his corner, Dominik Mysterio lost to Ricochet on Raw. After the match, McDonagh attempted to attack Ricochet but was able to escape. Andrade will also be in action against an unnamed opponent. While meeting the Judgment Day in a backstage promo, it was noted that he had a match next week, and they would be watching him closely.

In a segment that aired on Raw Talk, a match between Ivy Nile and Candice LeRae was set after LeRae insulted Maxxine Dupri again backstage. This time Nile attempted to go after LeRae for insulting her friend, but the two were kept apart by Indi Hartwell.

An appearance by CM Punk has already been announced. On this week’s Raw, he said he’ll be at WrestleMania 40 despite suffering a triceps injury at the Royal Rumble in January.

Here is what is announced for next week’s WWE Raw:

  • CM Punk appears
  • Ricochet vs. JD McDonagh
  • Andrade will be in action
  • Ivy Nile vs. Candice LeRae

Two new matches announced for WWE Raw

A couple of new matches have been added to the card for Monday’s episode of Raw.

Kofi Kingston vs. Ludwig Kaiser and The Miz vs. JD McDonagh will both take place on Raw this Monday night (January 8). Raw general manager Adam Pearce posted a social media video today announcing the bouts.

There was an angle on Raw last month where Imperium attacked Kingston while he was dressed up as Santa Claus. Jey Uso made the save for Kingston.

On Raw earlier this week, Kingston & Uso defeated Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci in a tag match. It ended in an unplanned stoppage after a spot where Kingston kicked Vinci in the face with a dropkick. Vinci tweeted that he was fine after the injury scare.

Kingston’s New Day tag team partner Xavier Woods has been banged up but is expected to be back on the road with WWE soon.

Miz & R-Truth defeated McDonagh & Dominik Mysterio in a tag match on Raw earlier this week.

Monday’s Raw is taking place from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. An appearance by CM Punk is part of the lineup for the episode:

  • CM Punk appears
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defend against Chelsea Green & Piper Niven
  • Tommaso Ciampa vs. Finn Balor
  • Kofi Kingston vs. Ludwig Kaiser
  • The Miz vs. JD McDonagh

R-Truth returning to the ring for WWE Raw Miracle on 34th Street Fight

On WWE Raw tonight, R-Truth will wrestle his first match in more than a year.

A Miracle on 34th Street Fight between Truth and JD McDonagh has been added to the lineup for tonight’s episode of Raw. The show is taking place from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

This is Truth’s first match since suffering a torn quad while facing Grayson Waller for NXT in November 2022.

At Survivor Series last month, Truth made his return to WWE programming. He’s been feuding with The Judgment Day since then with Judgment Day getting mad at Truth for repeatedly invading their clubhouse.

McDonagh, Damian Priest, Finn Balor, and Dominik Mysterio attacked Truth on Raw last week until The Creed Brothers made the save.

The Creed Brothers are challenging Priest & Balor for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles on Raw tonight. With next week expected to be a best-of episode, this is the final new Raw of 2023.

The updated card for tonight is listed below:

  • Intercontinental Champion Gunther defends against The Miz
  • World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins addresses Drew McIntyre
  • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Damian Priest & Finn Balor defend against The Creed Brothers
  • Women’s Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Piper Niven defend against Katana Chance & Kayden Carter
  • Miracle on 34th Street Fight: R-Truth vs. JD McDonagh

JD McDonagh officially joins Judgment Day on WWE Raw

JD McDonagh is officially a member of Judgment Day.

McDonagh was made a member on Monday’s Raw when McDonagh took a spear from Jey Uso for Damian Priest after The Judgment Day and their opponents for WarGames got into a brawl. In a backstage segment later in the show, Rhea Ripley convinced Priest that it was time for McDonagh to become a full-fledged member of the group. Priest agreed, and in another segment gave McDonagh a jacket, officially putting him in the group.

After being drafted to the Raw brand back in May, McDonagh had been seen in backstage segments with Finn Balor. Eventually, this grew into interfering on behalf of Judgment Day in an attempt to gain favor with the group. Despite repeatedly interfering on their behalf, until Monday McDonagh was only an associate, not a full-fledged member.

McDonagh will team with the rest of Judgment Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio) at Survivor Series in the men’s WarGames match where they will take on Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, and Sami Zayn.

Sami Zayn vs. JD McDonagh set for WWE Crown Jewel pre-show

A match has been added to WWE Crown Jewel’s kickoff show.

It was announced on Monday’s Raw that JD McDonagh will face Sami Zayn during the kickoff pre-show that will take place one hour prior to the start of Saturday’s Crown Jewel at noon ET.

Monday saw Zayn confront Rhea Ripley and the rest of the Judgment Day at the start of the show, saying he fought people like the Judgment Day his entire life. He promised that he would fight them until they were no more. The end of the show saw Zayn lay out McDonagh with a helluva kick after he and the rest of the Judgment Day got involved in the main event. Cody Rhodes gave McDonagh two crossroads on top of the announce table to end the show.

McDonagh in recent months has been attempting to win the favor of the Judgment Day in order to become a full-fledged member of the group. On Monday’s show, he lost to Seth Rollins despite Damian Priest coming to the ring and teasing that he would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins confronted Priest after the match, daring him to make a move.

Here is the updated lineup for Saturday’s Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia:

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns defends against LA Knight
  • World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins defends against Drew McIntyre
  • Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley defends against Nia Jax, Raquel Rodriguez, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark in a fatal five-way match
  • Women’s Champion IYO SKY defends against Bianca Belair
  • United States Champion Rey Mysterio defends against Logan Paul
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest
  • John Cena vs. Solo Sikoa
  • Kickoff: Sami Zayn vs. JD McDonagh

Seth Rollins vs. JD McDonagh announced for next week’s WWE Raw

Seth Rollins will take on JD McDonagh, plus three more matches are also set for the Monday, October 30 edition of WWE Raw.

Before he defends his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel on November 4, Rollins will have a tune-up against the Judgment Day-adjacent McDonagh on next week’s Raw. McIntyre benefitted from Rhea Ripley of Judgment Day’s interference in his match on this week’s episode against Sami Zayn. Ripley also offered Judgment Day’s services to Rollins in his battle against McIntyre. Rollins & McIntyre agreed in a backstage segment later that neither would use Judgment Day against the other in their World title match.

Three additional matches are also set for next week’s Raw.

In tag team action, DIY’s Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa will team for the first time in over three years as they take on Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci.

Following up on an angle from this week’s show where Dominik Mysterio & Logan Paul menaced ring announcer Samantha Irvin, Irvin’s fiance Ricochet will face Mysterio on the October 30 Raw.

With her sights set on Becky Lynch’s NXT Women’s Championship, Xia Li will take on Candice LeRae next week. LeRae was attacked backstage by Li on this week’s show as she watched Indi Hartwell challenge Lynch for the title. Li said that the attack was a warning to Hartwell & LeRae.

The announced card for the Monday, October 30 Raw, the final episode before the Saturday, November 4 Crown Jewel pay-per-view:

  • Seth Rollins vs. JD McDonagh
  • DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) vs. Imperium (Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci)
  • Dominik Mysterio vs. Ricochet
  • Xia Li vs. Candice LeRae
