UFC on ESPN+ 96 live results: Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Shamil Gaziev

It’s an afternoon of fights as the Octagon returns home for UFC On ESPN+ 96: Rozenstruik vs. Gaziev from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Originally scheduled to be the UFC’s debut in Saudi Arabia, this event was shifted to Las Vegas after several planned fights fell through, and it sees a heavyweight main event as Jairzinho Rozenstruik takes on the undefeated Shamil Gaziev. Rozenstruik is looking to rebound from a loss in May while Gaziev gets a main event in just his second UFC outing, looking to remain perfect and win his 13th straight fight.

The rest of the main card sees a light heavyweight bout pitting undefeated Vitor Petrino against Tyson Pedro; an interesting flyweight bout between Alex Perez and Muhammad Mokaev; a bantamweight bout between the returning undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov and newcomer Bekzat Almakhan; and a flyweight opener between ranked fighters as Matt Schnell takes on Steve Erceg.

Klein lands a body kick and gets a takedown, but they get right up. They trade and Klein lands a left hand. Klein looks for a takedown and Cunningham lands a knee. Klein gets it down but they get up and Klein lands an elbow. They trade. Klein lands a big combination. Klein continuing to land big punches. Cunningham lands a body kick then a right hand. Klein with some body kicks then lands some punches to the body. Klein hurts Cunningham with a left hand. He lands a big left hand then a head kick. Duncan landing more and lands a step-in elbow. Ribeiro makes Duncan circle around as he lands. Duncan has Ribeiro against the fence and lands. They break. Ribeiro rushes forward and looks for a takedown against the fence. Duncan landing more as they’re clinched. Ribeiro lands some knees. 10-9 Duncan.

They come out looking to trade and do. Erceg then lands a big left hook that knocks Schnell out cold. Wow, what a knockout by Erceg.

Nurmagomedov is in side control and takes the back. Nurmagomedov landing from the back as he has the body triangle locked in. Nurmagomedov now spins into the guard of Almakhan and lands a big elbow. The Octagon is back in Charlotte and back on network television for an afternoon event, featuring a heavyweight main event and a solid card overall.

Heavyweights Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Jailton Almeida square off in the five-round headline bout. Rozenstruik, one of the big knockout artists in the division, is looking for his second straight win. Almeida, one of the biggest prospects in the sport, is looking to climb the rankings as he sports a 13-fight win streak.

In the co-main event, former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith returns to action for the first time since July, looking to get back into the win column, as he battles Johnny Walker, winner of two straight fights.

Also on the main card: welterweights Daniel Rodriguez and Ian Garry battle, a light heavyweight bout between Carlos Ulberg and Ihor Potieria, and a welterweight clash of veterans pitting Tim Means against Alex Morono.

Green throwing punches and landing kicks right away. Battle then lands a right hand against the fence that drops Green and he was out cold as it is stopped. What a crazy sequence and what a finish from Battle!

> Women’s Flyweights- Ji Yeon Kim (9-6-2, 3-6 UFC) vs. Mandy Bohm (7-2 1 NC, 0-2 UFC)

Kim rocks Bohm right away with a right hand and looks to capitalize but didn’t see it and Bohm got a takedown. Bohm gets the back and looks for a rear-naked choke. It’s at a bad angle right now. Kim escapes and is now inside the guard of Bohm. Bohm was looking for a triangle choke but Kim escapes and lands. Kim now gets the back of Bohm. Kim is looking to lock in a rear-naked choke but doesn’t quite have the correct position. Bohm is able to circle and escape and is now on top. Bohm is in side control and lands a couple of elbows. Close round. 10-9 Kim.

They trade to start the second before clinching against the fence. Kim gets a takedown and is working inside the guard of Bohm but not a whole lot is happening. They get to their feet. Bohm lands a right hand but Kim counters with a right hand. Both are landing at a distance. Bohm scores a takedown. Kim is looking for a guillotine choke. Bohm makes it to the end of the round. 10-9 Kim, 20-18 Kim.

Kim gets a point taken away from her as she kicked Bohm in the chest several seconds after the horn ended for the second round. They clinch right away and pushes it against the fence. Kim grabs the back and Bohm is posting with her hand. Kim with some knees to the legs of Bohm. Kim lands a knee to the head as Bohm was a grounded opponent and we have a timeout. Bohm is saying she can’t continue. The fight is stopped as Bohm can’t continue and now we wait on the official word. Kim had another point taken away after the fight was stopped, so it looks like this goes to the scorecards. 9-8 Bohm, 28-27 Kim.

Andrade lands a leg kick. He throws a body kick but Stamann blocks it. Andrade lands a body shot. Stamann looks for a takedown but Andrade easily avoids. Stamann is pressing forward but missing his punches and Andrade is continuing to land leg kicks. Stamann is able to score a takedown and Andrade lands an illegal upkick and we have a timeout. They get back to action and were supposed to be put back on the ground but are standing. They trade and Stamann lands a jab. Stamann lands a body kick. They trade big punches. Andrade lands a spinning back fist. Andrade lands to the body. 10-9 Andrade.

Stamann lands a combo to start the second. Andrade lands a body kick and Stamann lands a leg kick. Andrade lands a left hook. The UFC kicks off a busy month of June, and a busy summer overall with the first of at least twelve straight weekends of UFC action, back at the UFC Apex with a heavyweight main event featuring two veterans.

Seventh-ranked Alexander Volkov and eighth-ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik both look to get back into the win column in the five-round main event. Volkov is making a quick return after suffering a first-round submission loss to Tom Aspinall in March, while Rozenstruik fights for the first time since September, when he suffered a decision loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 266.

In the co-main event, it’s a pretty big featherweight bout as Dan Ige looks to rebound from a losing skid when he takes on the undefeated Movsar Evloev. Also on the main card is featherweight action between former TUF winner Michael Trizano and UFC newcomer Lucas Almeida, a light heavyweight bout pitting Alonzo Menifield against newcomer Askar Mozharov, and a strawweight rematch between Felice Herrig and Karolina Kowalkiewicz kicks off the main card.

Fakhretdinov is aggressive in going for the takedown early and gets it as Michailidis landed some punches to defend. Fakhretdinov gets the back as they stand. Michailidis gets warned several times about grabbing the fence. Fakhretdinov drags the fight to the mat but they get up. Fakhretdinov gets it back down and is on the back and the neck but lets go. They stand. Fakhretdinov with some knees. Michailidis keeps grabbing the fence even after several warnings. They break and Fakhretdinov with some leg kicks. Michailidis lands a right hand and they battle in the clinch. They break. Michailidis throws a spin attack and falls to the mat and Fakhretdinov grabs the neck. He’s trying to get the mount but there isn’t a whole lot happening. They get to their feet. We have a timeout for a groin strike. Saint-Denis is bleeding under his left eye. Jackson has the back and is working for a rear-naked choke but Argueta is defending well and the fence is helping him. Argueta spins to the top and is able to transition to the back of Jackson. Jackson lands a shot as Argueta was shooting for the takedown and they go to the mat and Jackson has the back. They’re both landing short punches from the position. The Octagon kicks off a busy month of June with the first event taking place at the UFC’s home in Las Vegas, with a heavyweight main event featuring two men looking to get back into the win column.

Sixth-ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik and ninth-ranked Augusto Sakai square off in the night’s five-round main event as both look to rebound from a loss. Rozenstruik dropped a decision to Ciryl Gane in February, while Sakai was finished by Alistair Overeem in September. The winner will remain right in the mix for a potential title fight in the future.

Also on the main card is another heavyweight battle as Walt Harris takes on Marcin Tybura, a welterweight fight between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Miguel Baeza, and a pair of middleweight bouts as Roman Dolidze takes on Laureano Staropoli, and Tom Breese battles Antonio Arroyo.

Tybura moves to the back and lands some right hands. Tybura landing hammerfists to the side of the head. Tybura with right hands and Harris is covering up. Tybura flattens him out and is landing big punches and it is stopped. Big win for Tybura as that is now five straight wins for him.

Both men are coming off knockout wins over Junior Dos Santos, as Rozenstruik defeated him at UFC 252 in August, and Gane got his win over him at UFC 256 in December. Rozenstruik has been impressive in the UFC, with his lone loss coming to Francis Ngannou, but Gane has yet to taste defeat in his young seven-fight career.

In the co-main event, Nikita Krylov looks for his second straight win against Magomed Ankalaev, winner of five straight, in an exciting light heavyweight match-up. Also on the main card is a women’s flyweight bout between Montana De La Rosa and Mayra Bueno Silva, bantamweights Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera square off in a rematch of a November 2015 bout won by Rivera, and a featherweight bout between Alex Caceres and Kevin Croom.

Cachero was looking for a submission from the bottom but Lawrence scrambles out and keeps Cachero on the mat. They scramble up and Lawrence looked for the neck but they broke. Lawrence lands a leg kick and Cachero crumbles to the mat but gets right back up. Lawrence gets another takedown but Cachero pops right back up. They trade to start the second and Lawrence coming out aggressive and lands a leg kick, then a body kick and then a head kick. Lawrence with a left hand and Cachero counters with a leg kick. Lawrence gets a takedown and working from the side. They scramble but Lawrence able to keep Cachero down. Cachero works his way to the feet but Lawrence takes him right back down. Lawrence lands a spinning back kick, then a leg kick that trips Cachero up and gets a takedown right away to start the third and is working from the top. Lawrence landing lots of shots from the top as Cachero gives up his back. Lawrence landing tons of punches and this fight could be stopped. The referee letting it go on too long and he finally stops it as Lawrence gets the finish. What a performance by Lawrence!
