UFC on ESPN+ 65 live results: Alexander Volkov vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik

The UFC kicks off a busy month of June, and a busy summer overall with the first of at least twelve straight weekends of UFC action, back at the UFC Apex with a heavyweight main event featuring two veterans.

Seventh-ranked Alexander Volkov and eighth-ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik both look to get back into the win column in the five-round main event. Volkov is making a quick return after suffering a first-round submission loss to Tom Aspinall in March, while Rozenstruik fights for the first time since September, when he suffered a decision loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 266.

In the co-main event, it’s a pretty big featherweight bout as Dan Ige looks to rebound from a losing skid when he takes on the undefeated Movsar Evloev. Also on the main card is featherweight action between former TUF winner Michael Trizano and UFC newcomer Lucas Almeida, a light heavyweight bout pitting Alonzo Menifield against newcomer Askar Mozharov, and a strawweight rematch between Felice Herrig and Karolina Kowalkiewicz kicks off the main card.

> Women’s Flyweights- Erin Blanchfield (8-1, 2-0 UFC) vs. JJ Aldrich (11-4, 7-3 UFC)

Blanchfield with a couple of kicks to start. They trade right hands. They trade in a quick clinch and Aldrich with a knee to the body. Blanchfield lands a knee and Aldrich tries a takedown but Blanchfield defends. Aldrich with a left hand. Blanchfield with a body kick and Aldrich grabs it and tries a takedown but Blanchfield avoids it. They’re tied up against the fence. They break. Aldrich lands a couple of left hands. They trade punches. They both land in close and Aldrich scores the takedown. They quickly get up. Aldrich with the jab. Blanchfield tries a takedown but Aldrich defends and lands after they break. They trade in close range and Blanchfield lands a couple of high kicks late. 10-9 Aldrich.

Blanchfield with a high kick and Aldrich lands some counter punches. They trade in close range. Blanchfield pressing forward and landing some but Aldrich is landing the jab. They’re both landing when they’re pressed near each other. Blanchfield lands a nice right hook and Aldrich gets a brief takedown but they pop right up. Aldrich with the jab. Blanchfield lands a knee to the body and Aldrich falls to the mat and Blanchfield grabs the neck as they scramble up. Blanchfield with the standing guillotine choke locked in tight and Aldrich taps! What a finish by Blanchfield.

> Welterweights- Rinat Fakhretdinov (20-2, 0-0 UFC) vs. Andreas Michailidis (13-5, 1-2 UFC)

Fakhretdinov is aggressive in going for the takedown early and gets it as Michailidis landed some punches to defend. Fakhretdinov gets the back as they stand. Michailidis gets warned several times about grabbing the fence. Fakhretdinov drags the fight to the mat but they get up. Fakhretdinov gets it back down and is on the back and the neck but lets go. They stand. Fakhretdinov with some knees. Michailidis keeps grabbing the fence even after several warnings. They break and Fakhretdinov with some leg kicks. Michailidis lands a right hand and they battle in the clinch. They break. Michailidis throws a spin attack and falls to the mat and Fakhretdinov grabs the neck. Michailidis grabs the back but Fakhretdinov escapes to the feet. 10-9 Fakhretdinov.

Fakhretdinov gets a takedown right away and pushes it against the fence. Fakhretdinov with a big elbow from the top. Fakhretdinov just holding it down and landing a few shots but not much. Fakhretdinov takes the back and lands a big left hand and then switches back to the half-guard as Michailidis is on his back and gassed out. They get to their feet and are tied up against the fence. They break at the end. 10-9 Fakhretdinov, 20-18 Fakhretdinov.

They both throw to start the third and Fakhretdinov shoots for the takedown and they scramble and Michailidis lands a knee on the break. Fakhretdinov gets a takedown. He is in the half-guard and has wrist control and puts Michailidis flat on his back. Fakhretdinov with some punches from the top. Fakhretdinov with more shots from the top, landing punches and elbows. Michailidis gives up his back and Fakhretdinov looking to get the hooks in as they get to their feet. Fakhretdinov gets another takedown and Michailidis is bleeding badly from his ear. Dominant performance from Fakhretdinov. 10-9 Fakhretdinov, 30-27 Fakhretdinov.

> Flyweights- Jeff Molina (10-2, 2-0 UFC) vs. Zhalgas Zhumagulov (14-6, 1-3 UFC)

They trade early and Zhumagulov lands a big right hand. They both throw and then clinch against the fence and Zhumagulov has the back. Molina lands a back elbow. Molina lands some knees as Zhumagulov continues to apply pressure but isn’t doing much. Zhumagulov has the back and lands some knees. They break and Zhumagulov lands a right hand as they break. Zhumagulov with a right hand. Molina lands a nice right hand. Zhumagulov with a leg kick and he shoots for a takedown but Molina defends. Zhumagulov lands as they break. 10-9 Zhumagulov.

Molina with a leg kick and then a high kick. Zhumagulov with a body kick. Molina with a body kick and Zhumagulov grabs it and they go to the mat for a moment but get up and Zhumagulov has the back and the body lock. Zhumagulov trying for a takedown but Molina is staying on his feet. Molina landing short punches to defend and Zhumagulov holding on. Zhumagulov is still trying hard for the takedown but Molina is landing short shots. Zhumagulov gets it down but Molina reverses to the top and they stand and Molina with a chopping elbow and we have a timeout for a hand wrap issue for Zhumagulov. They get back to action. They trade punches and Molina pressing forward. Molina with a leg kick. They trade and Zhumagulov clips Molina with a left hook. Zhumagulov trying for the takedown against the fence. He gets it. They get to their feet. Close round. 10-9 Zhumagulov, 20-18 Zhumagulov.

They’re trading to start the third and both are landing solidly. Zhumagulov with a leg kick. Molina with a leg kick. Molina with a body kick. They continue to land in close range and Molina is landing slightly more. They continue to trade and Zhumagulov grabs the back and gets a late takedown. Close fight. 10-9 Molina, 29-28 Zhumagulov.

Munoz with a quick calf kick. Gravely lands a big uppercut as they were circling around and Munoz goes down and it is all over. What a finish by Gravely!

> Lightweights- Niklas Stolze (12-5, 0-2 UFC) vs. Benoit Saint-Denis (8-1 1 NC, 0-1 UFC)

Saint-Denis with a high kick that Stolze blocks. Stolze with a leg kick and Saint-Denis goes for the takedown and gets it against the fence. Saint-Denis is in side control against the fence. He’s trying to get the mount but there isn’t a whole lot happening. They get to their feet. We have a timeout for a groin strike. Saint-Denis is bleeding under his left eye. They get back to action and Saint-Denis gets the takedown. Saint-Denis gets to the mount. He gets the back and has a rear-naked choke locked in at the end but Stolze survives. 10-9 Saint-Denis.

Saint-Denis with a body kick. They trade and Stolze lands a nice right hand. Saint-Denis shoots for the takedown but Stolze has the neck and looks for a choke and had something in but Saint-Denis escapes and gets the takedown. Saint-Denis gets the back and locks in a rear-naked choke and it is in tight and gets Stolze to tap. Nice finish by Saint-Denis.

Jackson tries for the takedown right away but Argueta gets away with a fence grab. Jackson is then able to get the takedown and is looking for the back. Jackson has the back and is working for a rear-naked choke but Argueta is defending well and the fence is helping him. Argueta spins to the top and is able to transition to the back of Jackson. Argueta with some knees to the leg of Jackson. 10-9 Jackson.

Jackson lands a shot as Argueta was shooting for the takedown and they go to the mat and Jackson has the back. They’re both landing short punches from the position. Jackson still has complete back control. Jackson with some big elbows from the back. They stand for a moment and then scramble to the feet and Argueta lands some nice punches. Argueta going for the takedown against the fence. They scramble and both go to the mat. 10-9 Jackson, 20-18 Jackson.

Argueta with an inside leg kick as he rushes forward. Argueta lands a punch and Jackson stumbles down and Argueta rushes in as they circle around. Jackson with a leg kick. Argueta landing more as he keeps coming forward and lands an uppercut. Jackson is gassed out. They break. Jackson with a body kick. Jackson gets a takedown and is in side control and trying to pass to the mount. Jackson trying to set up a choke as he’s applying pressure from the top. da Silva drops Solecki with a left hook and gets into the guard of Solecki. Both landing on the ground. Solecki with some right hands from the bottom. da Silva keeping Solecki on the mat but he isn’t doing a ton from the top. Solecki grabs the neck and sweeps to the top and has a guillotine choke locked in. da Silva is able to spin out of trouble and he stands but gets back into Solecki’s guard. They finish the round on the ground. 10-9 Solecki.

Solecki lands a right hand. Solecki working for the takedown against the fence. He has it down and takes the back of da Silva. Solecki looks for the rear-naked choke and is trying to get his arm under the chin but da Silva is fighting it off. Solecki has the body lock. He’s working hard for the choke and da Silva gets a point taken away for grabbing the fence with his toes for a long time. da Silva survives the round. 10-8 Solecki, 20-17 Solecki.

They trade to start and da Silva lands a jumping knee to the body. Solecki tries for a takedown and they go to the mat and da Silva is on top but they get to their feet. da Silva lands a nice left hook after Solecki lands. Solecki pulls guard and da Silva is on top but not doing much. da Silva lands a couple of elbows from the top. da Silva stands and lands a leg kick. Kowalkiewicz landing some sharp right hands early. They trade right hands. Kowalkiewicz lands a right hand as Herrig was rushing in. Herrig lands a left hand. Kowalkiewicz with a couple of body kicks and they trade punches. Kowalkiewicz gets a takedown but Herrig reverses to the feet. They trade and Kowalkiewicz lands a stiff right jab. Kowalkiewicz with a combo. They clinch and Kowalkiewicz pushes it against the fence and lands a knee and looks to jump up on the back. Kowalkiewicz with an elbow and right hand as they break. Herrig shoots for the takedown but Kowalkiewicz defends. They’re tied up and Kowalkiewicz with a knee. They break. Kowalkiewicz with a jab. 10-9 Kowalkiewicz.

They’re trading in the first minute and both are landing solid shots. Kowalkiewicz is landing with slightly more volume but Herrig lands a nice left hand and follows it with a nice right hand. Kowalkiewicz with the jab. Kowalkiewicz with another jab and follows it with a solid right hand. Herrig with a body kick and gets a takedown but Kowalkiewicz reverses to the top. Kowalkiewicz with an elbow from the top. She grabs the back and locks in a rear-naked choke and it is in tight. Herrig is defending and trying to escape and does for a moment. Kowalkiewicz with big punches from the back. She lands more then locks in the rear-naked choke again. Herrig taps! Big win for Kowalkiewicz as she had lost five straight coming into this.

Menifield gets an early takedown and is working from the top. Menifield continuing to work from the top and landing shots and keeping Mozharov pinned on the mat. They get to their feet and Mozharov throwing big punches and lands a kick. He looks to land a right hand but Menifield gets an easy takedown. Menifield gets side control and lands big elbows and gets the crucifix. Menifield landing lots of punches. Menifield with big elbows to the head and it is over. Big finish by Menifield.

Adashev with a leg kick. Osbourne with a leg kick. Adashev throws some big punches but mostly misses. Osbourne cracks Adashev with an overhand right and Adashev goes down and Osbourne starts landing until it is all over. What a finish by Osbourne.

They trade leg kicks early and Botelho lands a left hand. They trade body kicks and Botelho with a left hook. Botelho lands a body kick. Silva lands a left hand. Silva with a right hand. Silva with some leg kicks. They trade punches. Silva with a right hand and gets a takedown. Silva has a D’Arce choke locked in and gets Botelho to tap with seconds left in the first. Nice finish by Silva.

Trizano with a left hand and he grabs the body lock against the fence. They break. Almeida lands a combo to the body and ends with a leg kick. Trizano looks for the takedown against the fence. They break. Almeida with a combo. Trizano with a combo. Almeida with a leg kick. He lands another. Trizano rocks Almeida with a left hook and Almeida ends up following to the mat and Trizano gets on top. Trizano with a right hand from the top. They trade quite a few leg kicks early on. Rozenstruik with an inside leg kick. Volkov with a leg kick. He lands another. They trade punches. They both land some big punches and Rozenstruik just missed some big shots. Volkov with a big right hand and starts landing big shots and it is all over. Big early finish by Volkov but it may have been a little early, but it doesn’t matter. Impressive win by Volkov.

After three years, the Octagon makes a long-awaited return to England with a loaded card including a heavyweight main event featuring a veteran looking to get back into the title picture battling a young prospect looking to break into the title picture, and a deep card overall.

Alexander Volkov will be going for his second straight win as he takes on Tom Aspinall, winner of seven straight, in the five-round headline bout. Volkov is no stranger to headlining UFC events and comes into this fight off a decision win over Marcin Tybura in October. Aspinall is in his first main event slot in his fifth UFC appearance as he looks to improve to 5-0 inside the Octagon and possibly move into the top five at heavyweight.

In the co-main event, Arnold Allen puts his ten-fight win streak on the line as he welcomes Dan Hooker back to the featherweight division. Also on the main card is Paddy Pimblett’s first UFC bout in his home country as he takes on Kazula Vargas, Gunnar Nelson returns for the first time since 2019 against Takashi Sato, and lightweights Jai Herbert and Ilia Topuria battle in the main card opener.

Mokaev is making his UFC debut and he’s touted as one of the best prospects in the sport at 21-years-old. Mokaev with a body kick. Mokaev lands a jumping knee and Durden goes down. Mokaev grabs him and takes him down and has the neck and a choke locked in and Durden taps! What a debut from Mokaev as he gets the quick stoppage.

Krylov with a front kick and lands some right hands as Craig grabbed the leg. They got to the mat and Krylov is on top and landing some big right hands. Krylov working in the half-guard and landing. Krylov postures up and lands some big punches that landed flush on Craig. Krylov gets back into the guard of Craig. Grundy lands a right hand and goes for the takedown but Amirkhani grabs the neck. Amirkhani is looking for the choke as he’s rolling. Grundy is trying to fight it off. Amirkhani has it locked in and Grundy goes out cold! Wow, what a finish by Amirkhani.

Herbert throwing punches early on and Topuria counters. Herbert drops Topuria with a head kick but Topuria gets up and grabs the leg and gets the takedown but they stand. Topuria with pressure against the fence as he looks to get it down. Topuria trying for the takedown but Herbert is grabbing the fence in plain sight, but Topuria is able to complete the takedown. Topuria is in side control but Herbert gets him inside the guard. Topuria working from the top and they stand and break. Topuria lands a combo. Herbert lands a shot that knocks Topuria’s mouth piece out. Herbert with a big right hand. 10-9 Herbert.

Herbert with a body kick but Topuria lands an overhand right. They start to trade in close range and Topuria lands a left to the body and then a right hand to the chin that knocks Herbert out cold. That was a brutal knockout from Topuria.

McCann still throwing punches as Carolina is trying to escape. They clinch against the fence. They break after McCann tried a spinning elbow. McCann lands a left hand. McCann still throwing and landing big punches. She unloads with a flurry against the fence as Carolina is covering up and surviving. They clinch and Carolina with a knee. McCann with a big right hand late. 10-9 McCann.

McCann clinches up against the fence but they break. Carolina with some leg kicks. McCann gets a takedown and is in side control and landing punches. They stand and break and both are landing. Carolina lands a leg kick. McCann with some punches and gets a big takedown late. 10-9 McCann, 20-18 McCann.

They’re trading to start round three. Carolina throwing kicks. They clinch up but break. Carolina with some leg kicks and lands some punches. McCann then lands a spinning elbow that knocks Carolina out cold. What a finish by McCann, just an absolutely incredible knockout.

They are now throwing back-and-forth and both landing and hurting each other. Allen with a combo. Hooker coming forward and throwing the jab. Allen with a left hand that hurts Hooker and he’s swarming on him and landing against the fence and it is stopped. What a finish by Allen.

They get to their feet and Aspinall with some knees to the body before they break. Volkov lands a right hand. Aspinall with a leg kick and a right hand. Aspinall ducks under a right hand and scores a takedown. He’s looking for an arm and gets a kimura locked in and Volkov taps as his elbow pops. What a performance from Aspinall to get the win.

The UFC wraps up a busy June with their fourth straight week of events before taking a week off, with this card headlined by a pivotal heavyweight bout.

Heavyweight contenders Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov square off in the five-round headliner, which will have some title implications riding in it. The winner could be next in line, or at-worst one more fight away, for the heavyweight title. Gane comes into this fight with a perfect record, winning all eight of his career fights. Volkov looks to get that elusive UFC title shot as he looks to extend his two-fight win streak.

Also on the main card is a short-notice heavyweight bout pitting Tanner Boser against Ovince Saint Preux, a bantamweight bout with Raoni Barcelos taking on Timur Valiev, an exciting featherweight match-up as Andre Fili takes on Daniel Pineda, a potential welterweight slugfest between Tim Means and Nicolas Dalby, and a lightweight battle with Renato Moicano against Jai Herbert.

Big punches from Wells. Wells lands a couple of elbows and then stands and backs off. Alves gets to his feet and eats a big left hand from Wells. They’re clinched up against the fence. They break and Wells with some right hands. They trade in close range. They clinch and Wells warned to not grab the cage. Alves tries a guillotine but Wells escapes and is on his back and Alves got to his feet. 10-9 Wells.

Wells wobbles Alves with a right hand early as they were both throwing. Wells lands a right hand as Alves was turning and Alves goes to the mat. Alves tries to scramble up but Wells teeing off and Alves goes back down and Wells finishes it off with big punches. What a finish by Wells in his UFC debut.

Rakhmonov gets a takedown and is now in the guard of Prazeres. Rakhmonov landing from the top. Rakhmonov with more punches and he stands and goes back into the guard and landing right hands that hurt Prazeres. They stand and Rakhmonov with a knee to the body. They’re clinched and Rakhmonov with more knees to the body. 10-9 Rakhmonov.

Rakhmonov with the jab and a spin kick. Rakhmonov with a combo as Prazeres is missing leg kicks. Rakhmonov with a spinning wheel kick that just misses the chin. Rakhmonov with a step-in knee. Prazeres tries a takedown and ends up on his back and Rakhmonov lands some big standing right hands. He is still teeing off as he postures and is landing more punches. He gets the back of Prazeres and locks in a rear-naked choke and Prazeres taps. Excellent performance from Rakhmonov here.

Marques takes the back of Nzechukwu right away and is on his back as they stand. Marques working for the choke from the backpack position. Marques landing punches from the position. Marques still working and is looking for the choke. Nzechukwu still defending. They finish the round in this position. 10-9 Marques.

Marques with a leg kick. Nzechukwu lands a right hand. Marques looks for a takedown but Nzechukwu sees it and circles away. Nzechukwu with a left hand. Nzechukwu lands a couple of left hands. Marques goes for a takedown and gets the back standing. Marques drags Nzechukwu to the mat. Marques working for a choke and they’re talking to each other on the mat. They get to their feet and break. Nzechukwu with a combo and lands to the body. Marques tries a takedown to no success. Nzechukwu with some punches and Marques is only trying for the takedown. Marques is able to get the back though. Nzechukwu gets out of it and lands somebig punches at the end of the round. 10-9 Nzechukwu, 19-19.

Nzechukwu landing big punches to start the third and he is teeing off. Marques is covering up standing but Nzechukwu is just unloading and it is stopped standing. He knew Marques was in trouble at the end of the second and Nzechukwu just came out firing to get the finish.

Herbert lands a right hand. They trade punches. Herbert lands a left hook. Herbert with a leg kick and Moicano gets him back down and gets right back into the mount. Moicano with some big right hands from the top. He ends the round on top. 10-9 Moicano.

Moicano gets Herbert down to the ground and they’re scrambling and Moicano ends up in the mount. Moicano landing from the top but they get to their feet and Moicano has the back standing. Moicano drags him down and has the back. He was trying for the choke but Herbert escapes and Moicano gets back in the mount. Moicano being aggressive from the top and is still looking for the choke. Dalby with a heavy leg kick. They clinch and trade knees as Dalby pushes against the fence. Means with a knee and they break. Means with a combo and Dalby falls to the mat but quickly gets up and they’re clinched. They break. Dalby tries a late takedown but Means defends. 10-9 Means.

They trade to start the second and Means with a leg kick. Means with a couple of left hands to the body. They clinch. They break and Dalby lands a right hand. They clinch and Means with some elbows and lands to the body as they break. They continue to trade and both land some good shots. Means with a left hand that backs Dalby up to the fence and he lands some sharp elbows. Dalby tries a takedown but Means sprawls and is in side control. Means ends the round in control. 10-9 Means, 20-18 Means.

They’re trading big shots to start the third and Dalby rocks Means with a right hand and Means tries for a takedown but they clinch against the fence. They trade knees in the clinch. They continue to battle for clinch control. They both land and they break and Dalby with a body kick and lands some punches as Means pushes it back against the fence. Dalby landing more. Fili lands and Pineda with a leg kick. Fili lands a left hand. Pineda with a leg kick. Fili with a combo and then lands a head kick. Pineda tries a takedown and Fili gets a big takedown but stands and lets Pineda get up. Pineda with a leg kick. Pineda with a big cut over his left eye. Fili with a body kick that hurts Pineda and they go to the mat and Fili with some big punches and Pineda locks him in the guard. Fili ends the round on top. 10-9 Fili.

Fili lands a left hand and then a body kick. They were trading and we have a timeout for an eye poke on Pineda. The doctor is checking on Pineda and he’s having trouble seeing. They give him a little time and he says he’s good but they still decide to stop the fight. It’ll be a no contest. That’s a shame as they were having a great fight and Fili was looking fantastic.

They get up and Barcelos lands a big uppercut that drops Valiev and he jumps on top and is landing. Valiev is surviving but is in serious trouble. They trade to start the third and Valiev lands a leg kick. Valiev tries a takedown but Barcelos defends. They’re both landing and Barcelos is trying to land the right hand. The Octagon returns to Las Vegas for the first time in 2021 for the first of four events in the month of February with a heavyweight main event featuring two men with a combined 106 professional fights between them.

Alistair Overeem will be looking to make it three consecutive wins when he battles Alexander Volkov in the night’s five-round headline bout. Overeem is coming off back-to-back wins over Walt Harris and Augusto Sakai in 2020 and is eager to get another UFC title shot. Volkov is looking to win for the second straight time after defeating Harris in October, and is also looking to get himself a long-awaited title shot.

In the co-main event, it is an important bantamweight contest as Cory Sandhagen takes on former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar. The winner could be in line to challenge the winner of the UFC Bantamweight Championship bout between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, which takes place at UFC 259 on March 6. Also on the main card is a lightweight bout as long-time UFC veterans Michael Johnson and Clay Guida square off, flyweight bout between Alexander Pantoja and the debuting Manel Kape, and a lightweight rematch between Diego Ferreira and Beneil Dariush. Dariush defeated Ferreira at UFC 179 in October 2014, and both men are on solid win streaks, as Ferreira has won six straight and Dariush five straight.

Smith with a body kick. Smith with a combo. Jaynes lands a punch that hurts Smith. Smith with a high body kick. Smith with a left hook and then a combo. Smith comes forward and lands. Jaynes grabs the leg and Smith lands some punches that seem to hurt Jaynes. They break and Smith lands late. 10-9 Smith.

Jaynes lands a combo and then tries a body lock takedown but Smith lands some punches to defend. Smith is able to reverse and get a takedown into side control. Smith with pressure from the top and lands a short elbow. Smith slides into the mount against the fence. Smith landing punches as Jaynes is giving up his back. Smith landing big punches from the back and is looking for a choke and he almost had it but Jaynes escapes and Smith explodes to his feet. Jaynes is ordered up by Keith Peterson and they call a timeout to check on Jaynes’ eye. It looks horrible. They call the fight off as the bruising under Jaynes’ left eye is really bad. The Octagon remains at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas for the fourth straight week, this time with a deep card headlined by heavyweights looking to get themselves into title shot talk.

The five-round headliner will see third-ranked Curtis Blaydes take on seventh-ranked Alexander Volkov as both are looking to earn a title shot. Blaydes has won three straight fights and has said he is willing to sit out and wait if he gets by Volkov. Volkov has gone 5-1 since joining the UFC roster, and a win over Blaydes would shoot him right into contention.

In the co-main event, it is a featherweight bout that promises explosive fireworks as Josh Emmett takes on Shane Burgos. Many thought this fight could be a headliner as both are exciting fighters who like to throw down and look for finishes. Also on the main card is a women’s bantamweight bout between Raquel Pennington and Marion Reneau, a welterweight bout between Belal Muhammad and Lyman Good, and the main card opener sees Jim Miller in his 35th UFC bout as he takes on Roosevelt Roberts.

A fairly deep preliminary card is capped off by a lightweight bout as Clay Guida making his 29th appearance in the Octagon as he battles Bobby Green. Also on the preliminary card is a women’s flyweight bout as Tecia Torres looks to get back into the win column against Brianna Van Buren, a pivotal women’s flyweight bout between Roxanne Modafferi and Lauren Murphy, and the night kicks off with the UFC debut of arguably the best prospect in the sport, Max Rohskopf.

Rohskopf asked for the fight to be called off after the second round saying he didn’t want to continue. Hubbard gets the win.

Camacho gets up and Jaynes starts teeing off on him and Camacho is in trouble on his feet. Jaynes keeps landing and Herb Dean stops it. What a finish by Jaynes, who took this fight on Wednesday.

Blaydes grabs the back immediately and gets a takedown and has the back. Blaydes landing and they stand and go back down and then get back up as Blaydes lands left hands. Volkov able to defend another takedown and they separate. Blaydes goes for another takedown but Volkov is defending against the fence. Volkov lands some punches but Blaydes scores another takedown. Herb Dean warning Blaydes to work as he’s not very active from the top. Blaydes lands a hammerfist. Volkov with elbows from the bottom. They are stood up. Blaydes lands a right hand and Volkov lands a knee. Volkov lands some punches and they clinch against the fence. Volkov gets a takedown. Blaydes is bleeding out of his mouth and is gassed. Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov to headline UFC London

The UFC announced today that Fabricio Werdum will face Alexander Volkov in the main event of the March 17th Fight Night show in London at the O2 Arena.

The match was put together after Michael Bisping officially said, on the advice of family and friends, that he won’t be doing a retirement fight on the show. UFC was attempting to put together Bisping vs. Rashad Evans as the main event, and when that fell through, completely switched gears.

Tickets for the show go on sale to the public tomorrow.

The winner of the fight would be in line for an eventual heavyweight title match. Volkov (29-6) is coming off a knockout win over Stefan Struve, and was heavyweight champion in the past in both M-1 Global and Bellator.

Werdum (23-7-1) defeated Cain Velasquez in Mexico City to win the UFC title, but lost it to current champion Stipe Miocic. Since the title loss, he has wins over Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura.

The UFC has been selling out its shows in London in rapid order.
