Report: AEW roster member has ‘rubbed a lot of people the wrong way’

It’s being reported that MVP has “rubbed a lot of people the wrong way” backstage in AEW.

According to Fightful, this sentiment has been expressed by a number of talents on the roster. The Hurt Syndicate member has made it known that he does not like “Speedball” Mike Bailey and did not want Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin losing to Bailey and Kevin Knight (JetSpeed). It’s not clear why MVP dislikes Bailey or if Hurt Syndicate was ever actually planned to lose to JetSpeed.

The report also states that MVP turned down pitches for The Hurt Syndicate to lose to FTR at All In and Forbidden Door. MVP reportedly suggested they would rather lose to The Gates of Agony, The Outrunners, or Private Party, three teams they have already defeated this year.

There is said to be frustration within the AEW locker room that the faction beats everyone up, high fives the fans, and does cool moves when they are supposed to be heels. However, numerous people also expressed that the backstage environment in the company is the best it’s been in years.

It was also noted that the storyline with MJF was originally planned to run longer, though there is no reported heat between MJF and the group.

The Hurt Syndicate’s last match was at All In, where they defeated JetSpeed and The Patriarchy in a triple threat.

The full report from Fightful is available here.

Tag Team title match confirmed for AEW All In

The AEW Tag Team titles will be on the line as part of next month’s AEW All In: Texas as The Hurt Syndicate will defend against JetSpeed (“Speedball” Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight).

The match was made during Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite after Bailey and Knight defeated Ricochet & AR Fox, issuing a challenge to Shelton Benjamin & Bobby Lashley afterward. Joined by MJF and MVP, the champions then attacked and decimated the would-be challengers from behind, punctuating the violence by putting Knight on a table and chokeslamming Bailey on him, breaking the table in half.

Afterward, MVP said they would accept if Bailey and Knight could walk again.

Knight and Bailey have had the champions in their sights for several weeks. Teaming with Mascara Dorada at Summer Blockbuster, they fell to Lashley, Benjamin and MJF and go into the match on a two-bout win streak.

Lashley and Benjamin have been dominant since joining the AEW roster. First winning the titles in late-January, they have successfully defended them five times with the last coming at May’s Double or Nothing over the Sons of Texas.

MJF voted into Hurt Syndicate, set to sign contract on next AEW Dynamite

After weeks and weeks of making his case, former AEW World Champion MJF will finally join the Hurt Syndicate after getting three thumbs up of approval.

Bobby Lashley said he would make a final decision on Wednesday’s Dynamite as the sole member to not vote MJF into the group after MVP and Shelton Benjamin had previously approved.

The deal will become official with a contract on next Wednesday’s Dynamite from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

After Lashley and Benjamin’s title eliminator victory over Top Flight, the team MJF bloodied up on last week’s Dynamite to show the group that he hurts people, MVP had to instruct Benjamin to find MJF backstage as he was concerned he was going to both get turned down again and beat up. Benjamin was found hiding behind Tony Khan at the gorilla position.

Lashley, earlier adorned with a thumbs down t-shirt, was teasing that he was again going to give the thumbs down as Benjamin loaded up for a superkick behind MJF. Instead, Lashley approved to MJF’s disbelief.

MVP first approached MJF following his Revolution loss to Hangman Page, saying the former champion needed to regain past glory. Benjamin eventually warmed to the idea after MJF regaled the group with women and then Lashley with an expensive sports car.

The Hurt Syndicate explain goals for AEW run

The Hurt Syndicate don’t want to just elevate young talent in AEW — they’re hoping to make some true stars.

Appearing on a live episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet that was recorded last month and uploaded today, MVP said he, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin understand this is their last run. Before their careers end, they want to identify the right young talent in AEW and help make them stars.

“When we decided that we were going to get the band back together, we knew that — realistically speaking — this is the last ride. This is it. This is our last run and then we’re going to ride off into the sunset,” MVP said. “Even though we’re in tremendous shape, we are still in our later years. The whole idea with what we want to do on our way out the door is make some stars. And it’s one thing just to put guys over. No, that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about trying to take some of the equity that we’ve built up through the years and now reestablish that equity at AEW. And then when the time is right, with the right young talent, transfer that equity and make somebody.”

Benjamin reiterated that, while he wants to help elevate people, he still has the goal of being a World Champion in a prominent company before he retires.

“I’m working every day to make sure that dream stays alive,” Benjamin said.

Lashley responded “yes” when Van Vliet asked if he sees another World Championship in his own future.

MVP — the manager of The Hurt Syndicate — said he’s not retired from the ring yet and still has a little bit left. His one match for AEW so far was a six-man tag match that took place earlier this year. MVP said he felt good in the ring during that match.

The current AEW Tag Team Champions, Lashley & Benjamin have held the belts since January. They voiced praise for Private Party, The Gunns, and The Outrunners during the Insight episode. MVP noted that he was looking forward to Lashley & Benjamin facing Brian Cage & Lance Archer before plans for that match were derailed by Cage suffering an injury.

AEW Dynasty preview & predictions: Keep on rollin’, baby

Image: AEW

Editor’s note: The following is an opinion-based preview and reflects that of the author and not our website.

AEW is once again cooking. Last month’s Revolution was one of the best pay-per-views in company history. It might even be the best if the main event was anything less than a torturous watch worthy of a trip to The Hague.

Dynasty likely won’t reach those same heights as it’s tough to put together a card with only a few weeks of build but it still offers enough to make it worth our time and money. Megan Bayne, “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight are all making their big show debuts. Swerve Strickland might even reclaim his place at the top of the company.

We’re officially on the road to All In. Let’s see how it all shakes out for Sunday’s AEW Dynasty (8 PM Eastern main card start on pay-per-view):

Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight in a men’s Owen Hart Foundation quarterfinal

Every generation sees the bar for athleticism move higher and higher. The splash of the top rope that used to draw oohs and aahs from the crowd now hardly draws applause. A moonsault gets only slightly more. What was once special becomes expected as that bar climbs. Every night, freak athletes wrestle on TV.

Yet, Kevin Knight may be a step above the rest. He might be the one who moves that bar to the thinnest of air. The way he moves is unique. The height he gets on a dropkick kind of melts my brain. We’re conditioned to see things look a certain way. Yet, his movements surprise. They don’t align with what we imagine. The suddenness and explosion remind me of when I first saw PAC highlight reels. We can’t predict outliers, but when we see one, we can recognize it. Knight is one of them.

Ospreay got another tattoo and you simply have to hand it to him. Lots of sweet birds, dragons, and other cool symbols are finding their way onto his body. He is unapologetically himself and frankly, I respect it. Keep filling that skin canvas, Will, and keep winning. As much promise as Knight holds, he’s not ready to hang with Ospreay. A brisk 10-13 minute exhibition at full throttle to get the crowd fired up is just the way to open the show.

Prediction: Ospreay advances

Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart in a women’s Owen Hart Foundation quarterfinal

Mone has two tentpole opponents this year: Toni Storm and Athena. Anything else happening should be in the service of either of those matches. One could happen soon if she and Athena advance in the Owen Hart Tournament (they will). The other is set for the biggest show of the year: All In.

It’s not difficult to sketch a future with Mercedes draped in her belts — including one for winning this tournament — and proclaiming herself the best. Cut to black and white, cue “Timeless” Toni to say something weird and suitably vulgar, and off we go. One match for everything. This is what Mone’s run in AEW has been building toward since she signed: the biggest match possible on the grandest stage possible. Full apologies to Hart, but she’s a slight obstacle on the road towards that.

Prediction: Mone advances

Kyle Fletcher vs. Mark Briscoe in a men’s Owen Hart Foundation quarterfinal

Both times these two touched were magic. They may not be perfect rivals, always pulled together like Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland, but they could be perfect in-ring opponents. Fletcher has completely established himself as a heel and the tearaway pants are the flawless final touch for his presentation.

He’s matched by the wild, pure babyface of Briscoe. If anyone lesser tried the Mark Briscoe formula, it would fall flat. He has a rare mix of unpredictability, charm, and innate timing. The term “one of one” is a bit lazy and overused, but that’s exactly what Briscoe is. I love him and I love these two together. Fletcher’s victory sets up what could be an incredible semifinal match against Page. Give me all that.

Prediction: Fletcher advances

ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Bandido in a title vs. mask match

Bandido’s talent and charm are so powerful that I’m writing about Jericho matches again despite my self-imposed protest. Bandido perpetually feels like the first day of Spring: full of excitement and full of all the promise in the world. He is an energy shifter. When he’s on screen, the crowd sits up straighter and pays more attention even before the bell rings. Once it does, he fulfills that promise. This is a dynamic, kinetic performer that belongs on weekly television. It’s wonderful to have him back and I hope he’s here forever.

As much as it pains me to admit it, Jericho has been…kind of good here and at least a good enough foil for Bandido. It’s the most engaged he’s been in years, and Bandido is benefiting from the program. It must be contract negotiation season.

Prediction: Bandido wins the title

AEW World Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) defend against Big Bill & Bryan Keith

As far as injury replacements and adjustments go, this could be a lot worse. Big Bill’s growth as a character is far more captivating than anything related to the Murder Machines. His career is a fascinating and inspiring one. He has experienced the highs of WWE and fought through addiction. His story shows the power of the human spirit and is deserving of our complete respect. And from a wrestling sense, the dude gets over. He was over in WWE, was over in a thrown-together tag team with Ricky Starks (RIP), and he’s over now. He’s the best part of The Learning Tree and is capable of so much more.

Just like I said before Revolution, the Hurt Syndicate are still the stars we need in the tag division. I am cautiously optimistic over their involvement in an MJF angle. MVP is fantastic on the mic, capable of drawing out MJF’s best. But there’s always a risk that the program devolves into more of the same MJF milieu. For now, the Syndicate remains strong. Nothing about that changes on Sunday.

Prediction: The Hurt Syndicate retain

AEW World Trios Champions The Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, PAC & Wheeler Yuta) defend against Rated FTR (Cope, Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood)

It doesn’t take a clairvoyant to connect the dots here. An FTR breakup is unlikely, at least not now. Maybe they splinter at some point at the end of their careers, but an all-time tag team breaking up over Cope is certainly not happening. The far more likely outcome sees Dax and Cash turning on Cope and the Death Riders retaining.

Given the issues in Christian Cage’s Patriarchy, could he and Cope end up in each other’s platonic arms again? They should reunite before they retire. It’s not a bold claim, but it’s necessary. The two of them reuniting at All In to wrestle FTR is fitting for a show of that stature. The journey to that could start this weekend.

Prediction: Death Riders retain

TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defend against Adam Cole in a no time limit, everyone banned from ringside match

It is an unfortunate and inconvenient truth that the Cole so many of us fell in love with might be gone forever. This is partly because of his injuries and extended time off. It’s also because what made him unique is now usual. I mentioned it when talking about Knight, but benchmarks change. They change in every sport and wrestling is no different.

Cole was emblematic of the PWG-influenced indie era of the 2010s, but styles and preferences have shifted. For better or worse, almost every AEW wrestler can, and often does, wrestle that kind of match. He’s still a gifted talker and connector, but what he does in the ring is not as remarkable as it once was. Ringing the bell doesn’t make him special anymore. I take no pleasure in writing this, and hope I’m wrong, but it’s far likelier we’ve already seen the best of Adam Cole.

Danny Garcia, the wrestler, is remarkably refined for someone so young. It’s easy to forget that he’s still only 26 and a burgeoning star in an unconventional way. He has polished in-ring skills that reflect someone with far more experience. Garcia wrestles with an edge, but maintains a bit of babyface playfulness. I’d like to see him lean into his edgier side, but that’s preference more than anything. He doesn’t completely check every box, but there are no empty boxes on his ledger. A future in the main event is squarely in his range of outcomes. It just will take time to get there.

Prediction: Garcia retains

AEW International Champion Kenny Omega defends against Ricochet and “Speedball” Mike Bailey in a triple threat

The excitement in this match comes not from the result, but from the AEW PPV debut of Bailey. While he is familiar to the sickos, this is his first true opportunity to connect with such a large audience. This is not TNA, DDT or GCW. This is a massive platform and Bailey has a lot that stands out like his unique look, presentation, and martial arts style catch attention. But can he set himself apart from the many great in-ring performers? Ricochet faced a similar problem when he debuted in AEW. He had to change his character to connect with the audience. I think “Speedball” will face a similar challenge.

Like some of the other matches on the card, this feels like a placeholder for something bigger down the road. The only thing that should matter in Omega’s world is a match with Kazuchika Okada. Both should be booked as strongly as possible until we get there, likely on July 12th, deep in the heart of Texas.

Prediction: Omega retains

AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Megan Bayne

To this point, “Timeless” has yet to stand completely alone. She was inextricably linked to Mariah May. Everything she did — story beats, matches, etc. — was in service of their story. With that over, curiosity abounds. What does this character look like untethered from a major foil? Does it lend itself to the more traditional “challenger of the month” type programs? Storm has proven to be up for pretty much anything, and this will be her biggest challenge yet.

The rollout of Bayne as a monstrous force in AEW is good and her matches with Kris Statlander have been even better. Her presentation and what happens between the bells are more than ready, even if the rest is not quite there yet. For someone with such a commanding presence, she doesn’t exactly command a room with her presence. Too often there’s an odd vacancy behind her eyes, and a lack of connection. Something is a bit off.

But those are the kinds of things that get ironed out with experience. She has the credentials: time in Stardom, a big debut, a featured spot in a Clairo music video. It’s only a matter of time before everything comes together and AEW’s women’s division has another star. That time doesn’t start right now.

Prediction: Storm retains

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Swerve Strickland

Moxley has devolved into something previously unfathomable and uninteresting. Someone proven to be such a magnetic promo and performer throughout his career is now just another generic heel with a propensity for violence. Even the likelihood of that violence isn’t enough to keep things juicy. For months, it has been the same thing on different days. Too many shows end with the Death Riders beating down someone. It’s been an active drag on the main event scene, culminating in a dreadful and disappointing main event at Revolution. What started with so much potential has become nothing but wasted ideas and intentions.

The time has come to return the main event scene to once-realized heights and Strickland is the man to do it.

Go back in time to when Swerve debuted in AEW. Imagine telling someone that this dude will be the biggest star in the company. Bigger than Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay or any other signings brought in with more fanfare. Swerve, however, likely expected this. True greatness often stems from unwavering self-belief. What a remarkable rise it has been. No shortcuts, no flimsy gimmicks required. He presents himself with a naked audacity — daring someone to question his words and actions. But the truth is that everything he says and does is valid. He is as dangerous as he claims and as good as he says. He took a Bryan Danielson-induced detour from the top, but the top is where he belongs. The top is where he’ll be when the lights go off at Dynasty.

Prediction: Swerve wins the title

Owen Hart tournament matches, Tag Team title defense added to AEW Dynasty

Both the men’s and women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournaments will kick off at this Sunday’s AEW Dynasty pay-per-view.

With the reveal of both brackets Wednesday also came the news that both Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight and TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart will be part of the card in Philadelphia.

Ospreay and Knight teamed up Wednesday with a win over Blake Christian and Lee Johnson. Knight officially joined the AEW roster last week after signing a contract and fell in defeat to Jay White. It will be the first-ever clash between the two high flyers.

The Mone vs. Hart match will also be a first time ever affair. Since returning from shoulder surgery in January, Hart is 4-2 coming off mini-feuds with Queen Aminata and Jamie Hayter. Mone is unbeaten since making her AEW debut in March 2024 and is looking to add the AEW Women’s World title to her litany of belts.

The AEW Tag Team titles will be on the line as the Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) will defend against Bryan Keith & Big Bill, the story of which came together over the last week. After Keith and Bill picked up a win over two indie wrestlers Wednesday, Lashley and MVP gave the thumbs up to the challenge issued last week. Since winning the titles in late-January, Lashley and Benjamin have defended the titles twice.

Additionally, the Opps (Samoa Joe, Hook and Katsuyori Shibata) announced they will be in Philadelphia and are looking for a fight.

Here’s the current lineup for the pay-per-view:

  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Megan Bayne
  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Swerve Strickland
  • AEW International Champion Kenny Omega defends against Ricochet and Mike Bailey in a three-way
  • AEW Trios Champions Death Riders (Wheeler Yuta, PAC & Claudio Castagnoli) defend against Rated FTR (Cope, Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)
  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Bandido in a title vs. mask match
  • AEW TNT Champion Daniel Garcia defends against Adam Cole with no time limit and no interference
  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Shelton Benjamin & Bobby Lashley) defend against Bryan Keith & Big Bill
  • Will Ospreay vs. Kevin Knight in an Owen Hart Foundation tournament first round match
  • Mercedes Mone vs. Julia Hart in an Owen Hart Foundation tournament first round match
  • The Opps (Samoa Joe, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata) make an appearance

New title matches, rules for ‘Hollywood Ending’ bout announced for AEW Revolution

The card for AEW Revolution continued to take shape Saturday with three matches and rules for another officially announced during AEW Collision.

A video aired featuring “Timeless” Toni Storm in bed wearing a neck brace. The AEW Women’s World Champion reacted to the attack she endured at the hands of Mariah May last Saturday and her talk of wanting a ‘Hollywood Ending’ for the two.

Storm accepted May’s challenge for a third encounter under these rules: no disqualifications, no countouts, no rope breaks and falls count anywhere in the building.

Later in the show, The Costco Guys duo of Big Boom A.J. and Big Justice appeared for a backstage interview, only to be interrupted by Johnny TV. A challenge was issued for a trios match with Johnny TV and two of his friends against A.J. and two of his.

Later, A.J. and Big Justice appeared in another backstage segment where they were joined by Orange Cassidy and Mark Briscoe who both offered up their services as partners. MxM Collection were later announced as Johnny TV’s partners, making the match official for the Zero Hour pre-show.

The Outrunners later approached the Hurt Syndicate, asking about the promise MVP made last week regarding a Tag Team title shot after they defeated the Murder Machines on Dynamite.

MVP pointed out how it was actually the Hurt Syndicate that provided an assist that led to The Outrunners getting the victory, but said he is a man of his word and the title match is on.

Here’s the current lineup for next Sunday’s pay-per-view from Los Angeles, California:

  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Cope
  • AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defends against Kenny Omega
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Mariah May in a Hollywood Ending match
  • AEW Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) defend against The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd & Truth Magnum)
  • TBS Champion Mercedes Mone defends against Momo Watanabe
  • Swerve Strickland vs. Ricochet in a AEW World title no. 1 contender’s match
  • MJF vs. Hangman Page
  • Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher in a steel cage match
  • Zero Hour pre-show: Big Boom A.J., Orange Cassidy & Mark Briscoe vs. Johnny TV & MxM Collection (Mansoor & Madden)

AEW Tag Team title eliminator match taking place next week

The next contenders to the AEW Tag Team titles will be determined on AEW TV next week.

During Saturday’s AEW Collision, The Outrunners were cutting a backstage promo when they saw reigning titleholders The Hurt Syndicate walk in. They stopped the champions and MVP and said they heard if the Murder Machines beat a real team, they get a title shot.

MVP then said he had good news and bad news. The good: if they beat the Machines, the shot is theirs. The bad: they have to face the Hurt Syndicate.

It was later said the match would take place “next week” but didn’t indicate if it was on this Wednesday’s Dynamite from Oceanside, California, or this Saturday’s Collision from Oakland, California.

Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin just wrapped up their first month as champions and successfully defended their titles against The Gunns earlier this month.

Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum have had one previous shot at the titles in a four-way against then-champions Private Party at last November’s Full Gear. If Brian Cage and Lance Archer pick up the win, it will be their first shot at the titles as a team.

Hurt Syndicate, Rated FTR live appearances added to AEW Dynamite

New AEW Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate as well as Rated FTR will be live on tonight’s AEW Dynamite, announced this afternoon.

Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin ran through Private Party on the January 22nd Maximum Carnage edition of Dynamite to take home the titles, continuing a dominant run for the MVP-led trio that began last fall.

It’s the first time Lashley has ever held a tag title and is his first title reign of any kind since 2022. Benjamin’s last title run was as WWE Raw Tag Team Champion in 2021. Their next challengers and next direction are unclear given the way Lashley and Benjamin dispatched Quen and Zay whose reign lasted 84 days with just two successful title defenses.

Cope and FTR will appear after Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler successfully defeated Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta in a street fight on Saturday’s Collision — the same show where Cope challenged Moxley to an AEW World title match at March’s Revolution.

Here’s the current lineup for College Park, Georgia:

  • Will Ospreay vs. Don Callis Family mystery member
  • Ricochet vs. Swerve Strickland
  • Kyle Fletcher & Konosuke Takeshita vs. Buddy Matthews & Brody King
  • Queen Aminata vs. Toni Storm
  • Hangman Page appearance
  • MJF appearance
  • The Hurt Syndicate appearance
  • Rated FTR appearance

MVP making promotional in-ring debut on AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage

Image: JJ Williams

MVP will once again return to the ring, and for the first time in AEW, as part of this Wednesday’s Maximum Carnage edition of Dynamite.

He will join fellow Hurt Syndicate members Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin against AEW Tag Team Champions Private Party and Mark Briscoe.

Lashley defeated Briscoe this past Wednesday after insulting Private Party on his way to the ring. As the Hurt Syndicate attacked Briscoe after the match, the champions then ran out to make the save.

It will be the 51-year-old’s first match in AEW and just his third overall in the last two-plus years. He’s a former two-time WWE United States Champion, former WWE Tag Team Champion, and former IWGP Intercontinental Champion.

Here’s the current lineup for this Wednesday in Cincinnatti, Ohio:

  • Hurt Syndicate (MVP, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) vs. Mark Briscoe and AEW Tag Team Champion Private Party (Quen & Zay)
  • AEW World Champion Jon Moxley defends against Powerhouse Hobbs
  • Casino women’s gauntlet match for Women’s World title shot at February’s Grand Slam Australia
  • Kenny Omega vs. Brian Cage
  • Christian Cage vs. Hook

Tag match added to AEW Dynamite Fight for the Fallen

A new tag match is set for Wednesday.

Tony Khan announced on social media Monday that Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin of the Hurt Syndicate will be taking on The Acclaimed.

Benjamin is coming off a loss in the Continental Classic tournament, while Bobby Lashley continues to be confronted by Swerve Strickland, who he beat at Full Gear. The Acclaimed in recent weeks have teased dissension, with Max Caster receiving a card from MVP. During a match between Anthony Bowens and Chris Jericho on the final episode of AEW Rampage, Caster inadvertently cost Bowens the match after accidentally striking hsi tag partner with the ROH World title belt.

Earlier on Monday it was announced that Orange Cassidy would be taking on Hangman Page, continuing their rivalry following Worlds End.

Here is the updated card:

AEW Dynamite Fight for the Fallen (Wednesday, January 1) —

  • Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Adam Copeland & FTR
  • Jamie Hayter vs. Julia Hart
  • Jeff Jarrett makes an announcement about his career
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Hangman Page
  • Hurt Syndicate vs. The Acclaimed

Bobby Lashley on AEW’s Hurt Syndicate: ‘We all believe in each other’

Bobby Lashley says the Hurt Syndicate is a real team, one focused on helping each other succeed.

Lashley spoke with Justin Barasso of The Undisputed recently and said that everyone in the group believes in one another, and their different skill sets complement each other.

Lashley said:

“One of my favorite quotes is ‘Sometimes you have to believe in someone else’s belief in you.’ We all believe in each other, and look what’s happened so far. Tony put Shelton in a couple matches right away, and both of those matches opened people’s eyes. Maybe someone didn’t see that in him before. Tony sees it, he sees how impressive Shelton is. And we all believe in each other. I believe in MVP, I believe in Shelton, and they believe in me.”

Lashley and MVP first aligned in TNA Wrestling, where they discovered they had synergy. Along with Kenny King, they were the original members of The Beat Down Clan.

“When we got thrown together in Impact, we didn’t know what to expect–but it just worked. There is a synergy. He’s a natural bad guy. He’s the voice, I’m the power. Handling yourself against MVP on the mic and against me in the ring, that’s a challenge for everyone in AEW.”

“We are exactly who we say we are. I’m a nice guy but I can hurt people. MVP does not hold his tongue. At all. That gets him in trouble sometimes, but he’s real. He means what he says, and you need to respect that. If you don’t, you’ve got to deal with me.”

Shelton Benjamin has been the most active member of The Hurt Syndicate since the group debuted in AEW. He’s entered into the Blue League in the Continental Classic, where he has a 1-1 record after a win over Mark Briscoe and a loss to Kyle Fletcher.

Lashley continued to say of Benjamin:

“Shelton came from a world where he was taught to be humble. In the pro wrestling business, it’s unfortunate, but that’sused against you. Shelton shows you what he can do.”

Lashley also reiterated that his decision to leave WWE and sign with AEW was made because he wanted to reunite with MVP and Shelton Benjamin in a group similar to The Hurt Business in WWE.

“We didn’t get the opportunity to show what we really wanted to do before,” said Lashley. “Now we do. The possibilities and ideas about what we can do in AEW, that keeps me up at night.”

“Swerve, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Okada, there are so many guys here to get in the ring with,” Lashley continued. “That’s good for us. That’s good for them, too.”

Lashley says his goal is to be the AEW World Champion, but he’s not asking Tony Khan to give him the belt; he’s going to make his being champion “undeniable.”

“I’m not asking for anything more than an opportunity, and that’s what Tony Khan gave me,” said Lashley. “I’m definitely not asking to be world champ. Of course, that’s where I want to be, but that’s not how I approach it. I don’t go around telling people I am going to be champ. I make it so I am undeniable.”

“I’m going to give people a reason to chase me,” Lashley continued. “I did that in WWE, I did it in Impact, and I’m going to do it here in AEW.”

Hurt Syndicate appearance, new tag team match set for AEW Dynamite

The Hurt Syndicate will be live this Wednesday on Dynamite.

It was announced on Saturday’s Collision that MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley would be at Dynamite this Wednesday in Manchester, New Hampshire. Tony Schiavone noted on commentary that Lashley has not signed a contract with AEW yet, and Tony Khan has been looking to finalize the deal.

MVP and Shelton Benjamin made their debut at WrestleDream last month, first confronting Prince Nana and later came face to face with Swerve Strickland, who rejected MVP’s suggestion to join the group. Swerve met Benjamin in a match this past week on Dynamite. Strickland emerged victorious but was met by a debuting Lashley. All three members of the Hurt Syndicate ended up attacking Strickland and Nana, establishing their presence in AEW.

A tag team match will also take place pitting the Don Callis family’s Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita taking on Ricochet and a mystery partner. Fletcher and Takeshita cut a promo on Ricochet during Collision, issuing the challenge with Fletcher telling Ricochet to literally pick anyone on the roster to tag with him.

The lineup for the Wednesday, November 6 AEW Dynamite:

  • Adam Cole vs. Malakai Black
  • Fight Without Honor: Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Bryan Keith vs. Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly & Tomohiro Ishii
  • Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy vs. Claudio Castagnoli & PAC
  • The Patriarchy confronts Hook
  • Penelope Ford vs. Jamie Hayter
  • Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher vs. Ricochet & TBA
  • The Hurt Syndicate will appear

Bobby Lashley debuts on AEW Fright Night Dynamite

After months of rumors, former WWE star Bobby Lashley made his debut on Wednesday’s AEW Fright Night Dynamite by leading a beatdown of Swerve Strickland.

Strickland had just defeated Shelton Benjamin in the evening’s main event when MVP then made a call to someone. Seconds later, the lights went out and Lashley emerged, walking into the ring and going face-to-face with Strickland.

Benjamin then jumped up on the apron and Strickland went after him, leading to Lashley laying him out. MVP then took out Prince Nana, leaving Lashley and Benjamin to attack Strickland. The three also beat up several security members who attempted to come into the ring, standing tall over everyone.

MVP then grabbed the microphone and said, “Guess who’s back in business?” — a callback to the unit formerly called the Hurt Business in WWE which is expected to be called the Hurt Syndicate in AEW.

Along with MVP and Benjamin, the 48-year-old Lashley became a free agent earlier after long runs with WWE this year. He hasn’t wrestled since a May WWE house show match in France, and this will be his first action outside WWE since 2018 when he was in TNA.

Shelton Benjamin debuts on AEW Dynamite

Former WWE star Shelton Benjamin is now #AllElite, making his debut on Wednesday’s fifth anniversary edition of AEW Dynamite.

During a backstage interview with fellow new signee MVP in which he promised a big announcement, he was interrupted by Prince Nana following last week’s confrontation at Grand Slam Dynamite. Nana made it clear he didn’t like what happened and reminded MVP he used to be a wrestler and would lace up the boots right there.

MVP said that sounded like a complaint and he didn’t deal with complaints but “he does” and pointed to Benjamin, the president of his “complaint department.” Benjamin then asked Nana if there was a problem, took his coffee cup, and walked off-screen with MVP.

The two are two-thirds of what’s expected to be the Hurt Syndicate in AEW, an updated version of the Hurt Business in WWE. Bobby Lashley has yet to debut in AEW, but that is expected to happen sooner than later.

The 49-year-old’s longtime run in WWE ended in September 2023 as he was released. In March of this year, he confirmed he had spoken with AEW and that the ball was in their court.

Benjamin has appeared sporadically on the indies in his first year of free agency, last wrestling in July against Titus Alexander at a combo WCPW/Prestige/Deadlock Pro event.
