AEW Dynamite Winter is Coming post-show segment with Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston

Bryan Danielson and Eddie Kingston shared a heartfelt moment in a post-show segment at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Winter is Coming.

Kingston challenged Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship in the main event of Wednesday’s Winter is Coming episode in College Park, Georgia. After the match, Kingston took the microphone to address the crowd, pausing to joke with Danielson as the “American Dragon” left his post at the commentary desk.

Before Kingston could speak, Danielson led the crowd in an appreciative cheer for Kingston, noting that he was in just his fifth match back since missing over 500 days due to a leg injury.

Danielson said that he believes in Kingston, that Kingston should not hang his head in defeat, and that Kingston has more heart than anyone in professional wrestling.

Kingston then thanked the Atlanta-area crowd and noted that he had loved the city since his first trip there for an independent match years earlier.

The full segment with Danielson and Kingston is embedded below.

Eddie Kingston reveals AEW contract status and retirement plans

Eddie Kingston has plans to stay with AEW for several more years.

In a recent interview on Gabby AF, Kingston discussed the length of his current AEW contract. While he revealed that he still has “six more years” left on his deal, he also opened up about his unique retirement plans.

“I have six years left on my contract,” Kingston noted. “I want to make my money and then buy a place in Alaska and get the f**ck away from society.”

“Get me the f**ck to Alaska. As long as I can watch the Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers, all that stuff with streaming, I’m good. Leave me alone.”

Earlier tonight on the December 10th edition of Dynamite Winter is Coming, Kingston clashed against Samoa Joe in the main event but failed to capture the AEW World Championship. This marked his first World Title match since his injury last year.

Kingston is a former AEW Continental Champion and ROH World Champion. He was also the first-ever winner of the Continental Classic tournament and had secured victories over both Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley in that tournament to win it. The 43-year-old is also a former New Japan Strong Openweight Champion.

Samoa Joe-Eddie Kingston face-off announced for AEW Dynamite

Fresh off a victory over Katsuyori Shibata on Collision on Thanksgiving night, Eddie Kingston demanded and was awarded an AEW World Heavyweight Championship match at this month’s Winter is Coming edition of Dynamite.

He won’t have to wait long to lay eyes on the champion as AEW has announced a face-to-face confrontation between Kingston and Samoa Joe for this Wednesday’s Dynamite from Fishers, Indiana.

In addition to his win over Shibata, Kingston also has history with Hook, Joe’s original partner in The Opps. The Opps won the AEW World Trios titles when Hook was out with injury and he teamed with Kingston upon his return to active duty.

However, he helped Joe win the AEW World title from Hangman Page at November’s Full Gear, revealing that he had been working with Joe behind the scenes the entire time.

Per Cagematch, Kingston and Joe have wrestled just once in the past decade, that being in a trios match on Dynamite last month. They have not wrestled in a singles bout since 2007 with Joe getting the win at a PWS event in Garfield, New Jersey.

Winter is Coming is booked for the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, December 10.

Eddie Kingston announces his final ‘Indy run’

“So this is my last indy run. Doing beyond and a show in Jersey this weekend. After that I am taking only one show a month. By next November I am done with the indies and yeah nothing more too it. As of now I [have] December and March, April, May.”

In about two weeks, All Elite Wrestling will present its Winter is Coming edition of AEW Dynamite on December 10th, 2025, at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. As of now, Joe has yet to officially respond to or accept Kingston’s challenge.

At Full Gear 2025, Samoa Joe defeated Adam Page in a brutal and bloody steel cage match to win the World Championship.

Eddie Kingston reveals how Tony Khan helped him with surgery

Sidelined with injury for over a year, Eddie Kingston returned earlier this year at All Out after recovering from his injury and surgery. Speaking on Cezar Bononi’s YouTube channel, Kingston once opened up about how Tony Khan helped him with his surgery.

When I had hernia surgery three years ago, my insurance at the time said that they would cover it. The day of the surgery, they said they couldn’t cover it. So thank god other people took care of that one. I’m still paying for the anesthesia though,” Kingston noted.

And then it happened again, same insurance, with the knee surgery. The day of the knee surgery, they said, ‘Oh no, we’re not covering.’ And the surgeon kind of knew that was going to happen because he’s seen this before with this kind of insurance. And he was like, ‘Let me make a couple of calls.’ And then, of course, you know, Tony took care of it. I’ll say it, thank god.”

AEW star Eddie Kingston announces ‘last indy run’

By this time next year, Eddie Kingston will no longer be working indie dates.

The AEW star announced last night that he is on his “final indy run.” Kingston has shows coming up this weekend for Beyond Wrestling in Rhode Island and Pro Wrestling Junkie in New Jersey. After those events, he will be taking only one indie booking per month until November 2026 — when he will be done working indie dates.

“So this is my last indy run. Doing beyond and a show in Jersey this weekend,” Kingston announced on social media. “After that I am taking only one show a month. By next November I am done with the indies and yeah nothing more too it. As of now I [have] December and March, April, May.”

Kingston signed with AEW in 2020 but has continued to take semi-regular indie bookings since then.

At AEW All Out this September, Kingston made his return to the ring after being sidelined for more than a year due to a torn ACL and broken leg that he suffered at an NJPW show in May 2024.

The 43-year-old Kingston recently told Busted Open Radio that his remaining goals in wrestling include competing at Budokan Hall in Japan, as well as winning the AEW Tag team titles with either Hook or Ortiz. But more than anything, Kingston just wants to leave the industry in a better place than when he entered it.

Kingston is set for Beyond Wrestling’s Novembercanrana event in Cranston, Rhode Island this Friday. He’ll then be in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey on Sunday for Pro Wrestling Junkie’s Damaged Goods 3.

Eddie Kingston on whether AEW has changed, goals for rest of his career

AEW has changed since Eddie Kingston debuted there — but whether that’s a good or bad thing isn’t for him to say.

Kingston was a guest on Busted Open Radio today, promoting the release of “This Book Is All Elite: The Inside Story of All Elite Wrestling.” The book is written by Keith Elliot Greenberg and covers the first five years of AEW’s existence. Busted Open host Bully Ray asked Kingston if he believes AEW is still the same place as when he arrived in 2020 against Cody Rhodes.

“No, it’s changed. It’s definitely changed,” Kingston responded. “The roster has changed. The office has changed. All that stuff. Is it changed for good or for bad? That’s not for me to say, because I still get my check. So, to me, it’s good still.”

When he debuted during the pandemic era, Kingston viewed his match against Rhodes as just another booking he was taking to pay the mortgage. Getting signed to AEW helped show Kingston that everything happens for a reason. It validated his decision to stick with pro wrestling and showed that everything he went through in his career was worth it.

Kingston has reached so many goals that he never thought he would attain, like being in a video game and getting his own action figure. There is still more he wants to do, and the end goal for Kingston is to leave pro wrestling in a better spot than he found it.

“The most important one for me, because of my love for Japanese wrestling, is just to fight in Budokan Hall — just one time, because that’s where my favorite match happened, 6/3/94 [Mitsuharu] Misawa and [Toshiaki] Kawada,” Kingston said.

“Being a Tag Champion with Hook or Ortiz is another goal. And honestly, you know what? When you say most important, honestly, this is me not being a good soldier or anything like that, because I can give a f*ck less. This is about the pro wrestling business. I want to see AEW thrive and get better as time goes on and the younger guys learn from guys like [Jon Moxley] and other people. You know what I mean?

“I just want the company to be better for when I’m gone. I can say I left it — I left pro wrestling better than when I went in. You know what I mean? I want to be Terry Funk at the end. I want people to say, ‘Eddie tried.’ That’s it.”

Eddie Kingston ‘must have quit AEW eight times’ during injury recovery

During his injury recovery, there were several points where AEW star Eddie Kingston felt like he didn’t want to return.

Kingston suffered a broken leg and torn ACL in May 2024 and could not wrestle for more than a year. The recovery process was taxing both physically and mentally — and Kingston’s “mental sh*t” led to him trying to quit AEW on multiple occasions.

On a new episode of AEW Close Up with Renee Paquette, Kingston addressed why it’s difficult for him to accept praise from people.

“I am flawed. Why the f*ck should I be adored?,” Kingston said. “I’m not perfect. I’m f*cking flawed. I make f*cking mistakes every day. Do you understand, I must have quit this company eight times when I was out because of my own mental sh*t. I am not a good employee. I’m not. I’m a pain in the f*cking ass because I’m passionate about it.”

Accepting praise is hard for Kingston because he still has a lot of guilt over things he’s done and the way he’s treated people in his past. He was brought up believing that you shouldn’t take the spotlight. You should just do what you need to do to survive and move on.

Kingston also finds praise uncomfortable because he still feels like he has more to do to raise both his personal profile and elevate AEW as a company.

In his return from injury, Kingston defeated Big Bill at AEW All Out this September. He’s now formed a tag team with Hook, with Kingston & Hook defeating The Frat House on the Tailgate Brawl for AEW WrestleDream last weekend.

Eddie Kingston returns to action at AEW All Out, makes new alliance

After nearly 500 days, former AEW Continental Champion Eddie Kingston is officially back to in-ring action after Saturday’s All Out and now has a new friend coming out of Toronto.

Kingston defeated Big Bill in the second match of the pay-per-view, landing a second spinning back fist for the win.

After the match, Bryan Keith joined in on a post-match attack on Kingston, prompting Hook to make an appearance to aid and align with fellow New Yorker Kingston. After parting ways with The Opps recently, he mentioned perhaps needing to find a new crew. The two have never teamed or opposed each other to this point.

Kingston’s last match came 497 days ago at NJPW Strong Resurgence, losing his then-Openweight title to Gabe Kidd in a no rope, last man standing match. He tore his ACL and meniscus in addition to fracturing his leg during the match after hitting his leg on a guard rail while being suplexed through a table.
