The AEW World Championship is on the line tonight in Georgia on the special Winter is Coming episode of Dynamite.

Samoa Joe defends the AEW World title against Eddie Kingston. It’s the first defense for Joe since defeating Hangman Page in a steel cage match at Full Gear last month to kick off his second reign as AEW World Champion. This will be Kingston’s first shot at the AEW title since challenging Jon Moxley for the belt at Full Gear in November 2020.

The inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions will be crowned on tonight’s show, with Timeless Love Bombs Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa facing Babes of Wrath Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron in the tournament finals.

Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland team up to face Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs of The Opps in a tornado tag match.

A pair of Gold League Continental Classic matches will also take place tonight, with Kyle Fletcher vs. Mike Bailey, plus Kazuchika Okada vs. Jack Perry. Perry is substituting for Darby Allin after Allin was medically disqualified from continuing on in the tournament.

AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone & Bryan Danielson before running down tonight’s card.

The Timeless Love Bombs (Timeless Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa) vs. Babes of Wrath (Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron) in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament Finals

(I thought this was an excellent Final of the tournament with both teams looking very good throughout and the crowd was 50/50 all the way through. It is a pretty great full circle moment for The Babes of Wrath, as Cameron’s AEW debut on Dark a few years ago was against Nightingale and cut to now, they’re inaugural Tag Team Champions. I’m not sure where Storm & Shirakawa go from here, whether they remain a duo or go back out as singles, but I feared they were going to go heel in the post-match, which thankfully didn’t happen nor should it, as Storm especially is one of the most over babyfaces in the company.)

After last week’s Holiday Death Match, Excalibur questions if the Love Bombs are 100% heading into the Finals. Cameron & Shirakawa kick things off trading early takedowns and counters until Shirakawa did a little shimmy and pose. Cameron posted up in the corner and forced Shirakawa to motorboat her. Excalibur told Schiavone that’s something Danielson did to him in Detroit about 20 years ago. Nightingale & Storm tagged in, with the crowd loudly giving dueling chants as both ladies slugged it out with forearms. Cameron & Shirakawa try to intervene and start throwing bombs as well, until The Love Bombs get knocked outside. Cameron lined her opponents up, allowing Nightingale to hit a cannonball off the apron. Back inside, Cameron worked over Storm until she was saved by Shirakawa. Storm delivered a back breaker and made quick tags, keeping Cameron isolated with a spinning assisted body press for two. Cameron ducked a standing switch with a back suplex for the Nightingale hot tag. Lariats and chops aplenty dished out, until she ran through a double clothesline with one of her own before Pouncing Storm to the floor heading to break.

Shirakawa was worked over during commercial, until a spinning DDT on Nightingale created space enough for Storm to tag in and run wild. Cameron was spiked with a DDT of her own and signaled for the TCM Chicken Wing, but Nightingale made the save. Shirakawa fought off both ladies, getting Figure Four on Cameron while DDT’ing Nightingale. Figure Four proper applied, but Storm & Nightingale took turns turning their opponent over, so Nightingale attempted an Indian Death Lock leaving all four women to slug it out until everyone broke free. Everyone up firing off overhand chops and headbutts leading to a quadruple down. Storm sent Nightingale to the floor and helped Shirakawa get a Sling Blade out of the corner on Cameron. Storm Zero planted Cameron, but Nightingale broke the count and hit an overhead suplex on Storm on the floor. Cameron & Shirakawa traded forearms, as Shirakawa hit a few rolling elbows and spinning backfist. Shirakawa wanted a Glamourous Driver MINA, Cameron floated through with Her Finishing Move, as she tagged Nightingale, who hit a Doctor Bomb to get the pin and win the titles.

Post-match, Renee Paquette came to the ring to congratulate the new champions, as Nightingale said it was a hard fight, Cameron’s mouth is all bloodied up, but she’s proud of her. Nightingale said this year has been rough not knowing who has her back, but Cameron has through it all. Cameron talked about wrestling Nightingale in her second ever match a few years ago. Crowd chanted Babes of Wrath as they got pyro while Storm & Shirakawa consoled each other until facing off with the new champs, offering a handshake and hug.

Match Result: The Babes of Wrath defeated The Timeless Love Bombs to win the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles when Nightingale pinned Shirakawa

-The Opps are backstage where Samoa Joe congratulated Eddie Kingston for his time finally coming. You wanted the real Samoa Joe, the crusader of the independents, not realizing that man has been standing in front of Kingston all along. Joe is ruthless by design and doesn’t care about men like Kingston, who are in his way from what he has. The man Kingston looked up to was a wonderful idea, but the one who will kick his ass tonight, is the man who will show him the reality of what this industry is.

-Death Riders are in a stairwell where Jon Moxley talking about his back is against the wall in the Continental Classic with time running out. It Moxley has proved anything is that if there’s sand in the hourglass, he can still score, so count him out. If you need circumstances to be ideal and try, maybe you just suck. Moxley has to try for the rest of the Death Riders, as they are the hungriest group in pro wrestling, chasing the dragon every day. Daniel Garcia said every day they wake up, they choose to win, if you don’t try, you don’t deserve to win.

Kazuchika Okada (3) vs. Jungle Jack Perry (0) in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

(Very fun first-time meeting between these two, as Perry tried his hardest, but it was not meant to be, as Okada remains on another level. I like the choice of Perry replacing Darby Allin, as we’re in for some good singles matches for Perry, who I’m glad is getting more ring time outside of just tag work.)

Renee Paquette was ringside pre-match and talked about Perry being at a disadvantage in his C2 debut replacing Darby Allin and brings up facing the greatest tournament wrestler of all time, while not competing in a singles match in over a year. I liked that little snippet from Paquette prior to this match and hope they do that more often going forward. Don Callis joined the commentary crew, as Perry exploded out at the bell, sending Okada outside with a hurricanrana and follow-up dive. Okada tried a charge, but Perry hit a nice dropkick to regain control. Back inside, Perry connected with a flying clothesline off the top for two, as Callis said his Family loves twenty-something athletes, which Perry certainly is. Perry delivered corner punches, but opted to flip off Okada, who slid out and dropkicked Perry to the floor, where he’s clutching his ankle after colliding with a ringside attendant in the process. Okada sent Perry over the barricade and followed with a draping DDT heading to commercial.

Things return with Okada toying with Perry, giving him a free shot, as Perry threw three shots, only to be worn out with Okada forearms. Perry fired off a desperation discus lariat to create a double down. Perry floated over in the corner into a release German and also a DDT, with both netting near falls. Okada responded with a big boot and Air Raid Crash neckbreaker before hitting the zero-elevation elbow drop off the top. After flipping off the crowd, Okada tried a Rainmaker, Perry escaped, tried the bounce back lariat, only to run into an Okada dropkick. Perry battled back with a Poison Rana and running knee strike to get a close near fall as Justin Roberts gave a 10-minute call. Snare Trap attempted, but Okada bit the fingers to get free. Okada tried a Tombstone, but according to Callis, Perry bit Okada in the crotch, then applied the Snare Trap. Danielson said he’d never seen that before, while Schiavone screamed for Perry to do that again. Okada got the ropes and quickly rolled outside, as Callis called what Perry did assault. Perry grabbed a chair, but thought otherwise, as the threw Okada back inside, where Okada got a backslide, got wrist control and hit a lariat. Okada tried a proper Rainmaker, Perry ducked, tried a charge, but Okada connected with Emerald Flowsion and Rainmaker for the win.

Post-match, The Don Callis Family came to the ring and picked up Perry, as Callis told him he has a lot of respect for Perry after that effort. After watching that performance tonight, he said instead of giving money to The Young Bucks, maybe he should’ve given it to Perry. Callis said Perry lacks focus and direction, so he’s offering him a spot in The Don Callis Family. Callis said as a signing bonus, he’ll pay Perry out of The Bucks’ money. Callis reminds Perry there are 7 of them and one of him, so if he doesn’t give him an answer, he’ll cut his strings and put him in the chair. Perry said maybe he’s going to bite off a little more than he can chew and charged at everyone. Perry got beat down until Luchasaurus hit the ring and just stopped at ringside, watching Perry get his ass kicked, until The Young Bucks appeared with chairs, swinging at all The Callis Family. Luchasaurus took out two with a double chokeslam, as Okada took a BTE Trigger. Callis was left alone with the bag of money, threw it to The Bucks and begged off, as The Bucks were about to throw a Superkick, which Konosuke Takeshita took the bullet. Rocky Romero ate one as well, as The Family retreated with Takeshita tending to Callis, but The Bucks now have their money.

-Backstage, The Conglomeration celebrated with The Babes of Wrath, as Roderick Strong just stood there with his arms crossed. The Timeless Love Bombs came in and congratulated the new champions again.

-Video package of Mercedes Mone melting down recently after losing her first of 14 titles, but screamed that she’s till the best TBS Champion of all time.

-Eddie Kingston is backstage with Renee Paquette, who said he’s nervous about tonight, which is good, as it keeps you on your toes. Kingston brings up Terry Funk winning the World Title on this day and hopes to make him and his parents proud. Kingston said you don’t know how many shots he’ll get and starts to get emotional and tells Samoa Joe he’s going to have to put him down, as there’s no way he’s going to quit.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces Mark Briscoe to a big ovation. Briscoe said not that long ago, certain individuals said he’d never get it done and win the big one, but look at the shiny hardware he has now? The doubters are still out there, but respectfully, Briscoe said they can kiss his big white ass. Garcia was cut-off by Wheeler Yuta in the crowd with the Death Riders, saying Briscoe has more children than he has teeth. Daniel Garcia took the mic as they all got in the ring saying he feels bad for Briscoe, as everything about him is sad. Garcia said it’ll be more sad when Briscoe has to try to provide for his family without the TNT Title with a broken leg. Briscoe said Garcia is getting an ass kicking on Saturday, but it’d be rude to deprive the crowd tonight of one as well and told Garcia to make his move. Garcia started slapping Briscoe, who dropped Garica, who had to be held back by Yuta & Marina Shafir. Danielson politely said Briscoe should punch Yuta as well. That was all that happened, as Shafir & Yuta to pulled Garcia from the ring. This was pretty underwhelming to be honest.

-Excalibur said there’s a situation happening backstage, as Triangle of Madness are beating up girls backstage until Kris Statlander made the save and hit Skye Blue & Julia Hart with a chair, but Thekla dodged a shot as they all bailed.

Hangman Adam Page & Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) vs. The Opps (Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata w/The Opps Dojo) in a Tornado Tag Team Match

(The match itself was an entertaining brawl with the crowd so loudly behind Page & Strickland as a duo, that I highly expect this isn’t a one-time deal like Strickland (who looked great in his in-ring debut after months on the shelf) said it would be on Collision last week. Bryan Danielson had a great line saying how can Winter be Coming when Hell has already frozen over and these two are teaming? The part I didn’t care for was the weapons had to be stopped once the bell rang and a Tornado Tag meant they can just brawl without weapons, which was just weird. Regardless, this match really didn’t need weapons, as the team of Strickland & Page were so wildly over, it wasn’t necessary in the end. I look forward to this story continuing.)

The Opps were out with The Dojo, while Page & Strickland made their entrance through the crowd and both wielded chains and staplegun. Shibata order the Dojo dorks to attack and as they all got clocked with the chain and staplegun. Shibata somehow got ahold of the staplegun and accidentally stapled one of the Dojo members, as before the match even officially began, we get a split screen brawl with Shibata & Strickland and Page & Hobbs paired off in different areas of the concourse. Page chucked a Christmas tree at Hobbs slamming him through a table before having a beer. Shibata meanwhile, placed Strickland on a chair and booted him to the floor as the brawl goes to commercial.

Back from break, the bell finally rings to begin the match, as the referee took the chair from Page, as commentary told us despite this being a Tornado Tag, there are DQ’s applied, which makes utterly no sense to me. Shibata & Hobbs worked over Page, as Strickland was nowhere to be found during the beatdown. Prince Nana jumped on the apron and was about to get beat up by Hobbs, until Strickland flew into the shot with a big boot. Strickland & Page hit double dives outside before returning back inside momentarily until Page & Hobbs tumbled outside. Rolling hip toss into a brain buster attempt by Strickland, which Shibata escaped from, but not the diving uppercut out of the corner, as Strickland connected and hit the Griddy. Strickland wanted House Call, but was pulled outside by Hobbs. Page missed a Buckshot on Shibata, who got a low blow, as Hobbs took the ref. Tony Schiavone said anything goes, which, we were literally told the opposite not that long ago. With Shibata applying a cross arm-breaker on Page, Strickland flew off the top with a Swerve Stomp to break it into the reset.

All four men slug it out until Strickland & Page side-stepped Hobbs, who mowed down Shibata. Double rolling elbow from Strickland & Page, as they hit a Fall-Away Slam/450 Splash combo before Strickland nailed a rolling Cutter on Hobbs leaving Strickland & Page face-to-face. Hobbs was double powerbombed through a table ringside, as a Buckshot and House Call was delivered to Shibata with Strickland getting the pin.

Post-match, we see Josh Alexander watching on backstage, as he’ll face Strickland this Saturday on Collision.

-Don Callis is backstage and talked about The Young Bucks stealing his money, as he’s prepared to drag them through courts and put them in the poor house, but he’d rather get his pound of flesh. Callis said The Bucks should find a partner in Manchester next week, Takeshita, Okada & Hechicero against The Bucks and a partner for the $1,000,000, if The Bucks grow a set and accept.

-Stokely is backstage and said the most dangerous narcotic isn’t on the streets, it’s the camera, as it gives folks an addiction that makes them think they deserve a title shot. Stokely said next week on Dynamite, FTR will beat The Bang Bang Gang and cure them of their addiction. When they beat them, they’ll leave them clearing customs without the tag titles and at the end of the line in the tag team division, top guys, out. This was a really good, quick promo from Stokely.

Kyle Fletcher (6) vs. Speedball Mike Bailey (0) in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

(Match of the Tournament so far in my opinion and that’s saying something, as we’ve had nothing but excellent matches in this C2, especially Moxley vs. Takeshita last week on Collision. Fletcher is an absolute star and should be in the main event picture, while Bailey continues to be one of the most underrated guys in all of wrestling, always reliable for having matches like this. I’d compare this to a PWG style sprint, as the fans and commentary were going nuts the deeper this match went.)

Renee Paquette said this is do or die for Bailey tonight (despite only being 0-1 at this point), while Fletcher has been on a roll so far in the C2. I want to point out that earlier today on social media, Bailey was training backstage and received some encouragement from Ernest Miller & Glacier. Fletcher dodged some early kicks, while both scrambled for the upper hand, forcing Fletcher to take a powder and regroup. Fletcher returned and got the advantage, mocking Bailey to the crowd, as it led to a handspring hurricanrana, as it was followed by almost a baseball hurricanrana to the floor. Bailey tried a high cross body back inside, but was caught with a spinning back breaker and sit-out slam. Fletcher tried a corner charge, but ate a missile dropkick to the chops, as Bailey connected on a series of kicks before missing a running Shooting Star. Fletcher missed a Brainbuster, was low bridged outside, giving Bailey a chance to hit a springboard Cancun Tornado. Taking too long to follow-up, Fletcher managed a thrust kick, but both fought for a suplex, leading to both standing on the barricade, where Fletcher actually connected on a bodyslam on the steel heading to break.

During commercial, Bailey, whose back is thrashed after that bodyslam, managed to hit a Poison Rana on the floor and Moonsault Double Knees on the apron. This Is Awesome chants ring out, as Bailey wanted the Flamingo Driver, Fletcher avoided that, but took a corner hurricanrana. Bailey looked for a Shooting Star Press, but Fletcher got the boots up, hit the Lawn Dart and sit-out Liger Bomb, only there was fight left in Bailey. A visibly frustrated Fletcher stomped away, as Bailey mounted his comeback, trading loud chops. Fletcher dodged a head kick, but Bailey met him with a Collision Course for a close near fall. This match just reached another level, as Bailey missed a PK, Fletcher missed a powerbomb, Bailey rolled through, hit a snap hurricanrana pin for a close two. PK hits, Moonsault double knees to follow, as a Buzzsaw Kick landed flush, but Fletcher kicked out. During all of that, Justin Roberts gave a 5-minute remaining call. Bailey hit Time Adventure flush, but Fletcher just got a shoulder up. Bailey wanted it again, but Fletcher connected on a thrust kick, charged, Bailey hit one of his own and hit another corner spin kick. Bailey finally hit Ultimate Weapon, but again, Fletcher kicked out.

Fletcher rolled outside, as Bailey tried the Shooting Star double knees, only missed, allowing Fletcher to hit a powerbomb on the apron, scrambled back inside for a Helluva Kick and Sheer Drop Brainbuster, but Bailey kicked out this time. Fletcher wanted his Avalanche Brainbuster, Bailey slipped out with a powerbomb and pin attempt for two, as both are up throwing bombs, Fletcher hit a wild lariat, as Bailey got a cross-arm sunset flip for the flash pin with 1-minute left to win a thriller. Kevin Knight ran to ringside to check on Bailey, as Fletcher is left stunned.

Match Result: Speedball Mike Bailey (3) defeated Kyle Fletcher (6) to earn 3 Points in the Continental Classic Gold League

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Hangman Adam Page asking what’s next after teaming with Swerve Strickland. Page said the AEW Men’s World Title is what is always next, as he told Samoa Joe & Eddie Kingston he’ll be watching, as at World’s End, he’s coming for them and his World Championship.

-The Young Bucks said it’s official for next week in Machester, as they need a partner, so they ask Luchasaurus, who says no, as he pointed to Kenny Omega’s locker room. The Bucks knock on the door, as Omega answers and they ask to do it one more time, as there’s a lot of money on the line. Omega said they’re right, but he doesn’t want the money, it’s about revenge on Don Callis & The Family, hell, he’d do it for free. Omega hit all his go home lines looking at the camera and the match is official for Dynamite next week.

Samoa Joe (w/HOOK) vs. Eddie Kingston for the AEW Men’s World Title

(I could’ve watched these two beat the absolute piss out of each other for another 30 minutes if I’m being completely honest. I held out hope we’d get a surprise title switch, as the fans would’ve lost their minds, but it was not meant to be. I feared we’d get an Opps filled interference main event ala the Moxley Death Riders run, but Joe retained completely on his own and we got a great finish with Joe clearly prepared for what Kingston threw at him. Joe is a great Champion, but I will always hope we get an Eddie Kingston World Title run, I don’t care how long the reign, we just ultimately need it to happen.)

Danielson said there’s a big fight feel, as HOOK immediately tripped up Kingston right in front of referee Paul Turner and was ejected within the first minute. Joe delivered an overhead belly-to-belly before lighting Kingston up with jabs, picking him apart in the early going. Kingston responded with a kitchen sink knee and running bulldog, gaining control heading to commercial.

We return to a slug-fest, which Kingston won, as he started giving kicks to Joe, only waking him up. Joe fired off stiff shots, but Kingston wound up with a home run shot of his own, completely dropping Joe in the process. Kingston charged in the corner, but Joe flattened him with a huge STJoe before delivering a running boot scrape. Dueling chants from the crowd, as Joe starts a strike exchange, with there still fight left in Kingston, who hit multiple lariats, but Joe didn’t go down. The third try, Kingston ran into a snap powerslam by Joe for a near fall. Joe starts throwing kicks and knees, but Kingston no sold. Both trade knees and chops, as Kingston collapsed, only to catch Joe with an Exploder for two, nearly dropping Joe on his head.

Crowd is willing on Kingston, but a delay allowed Joe to hit a Fireman’s Carry slam and STF applied. Kingston bit free and spiked Joe with a DDT, but Joe rolled to the floor. Kingston got Joe back inside, lowered the straps, wanted a spinning backfist, but Joe blocked, so Kingston hit a wild Cutter. Joe was on spaghetti legs, tried the backfist again, but spun right into the Coquina Clutch. Kingston started to fade, but tapped before he passed out. Bryan Danielson said Kingston wanted the real Samoa Joe, he got him.
