AEW Dynamite live results: Omega & Hardy vs. Santana & Ortiz

AEW Dynamite returns tonight from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Kenny Omega and Matt Hardy vs. Santana and Ortiz highlights the announced matches. Santana and Ortiz interfered in last week’s Dynamite main event street fight. That match saw Omega and Hardy team against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a losing effort.

Mr. Brodie Lee will be in action against SCU’s Christopher Daniels. Lee laid out Daniels with a chair shot on last week’s episode to set this match up. Lee will challenge AEW World Champion Jon Moxley at Double or Nothing 2 on May 23.

A four-way match in the women’s division will take place tonight. Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Penelope Ford and Dr. Britt Baker will face off. While not officially announced as a number one contender’s match, it would make sense that the winner of this match will be next in line to face AEW Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose.

Chris Jericho vs. “Pineapple Pete” Suge D, MJF returning to in-ring action against an unnamed opponent and a Jake Roberts and Lance Archer promo have also been announced for tonight’s show.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with Jake Roberts and Lance Archer out for a promo. Archer beat up a jobber on the stage on his way to the ring.

Roberts said that he had been asked to make an apology for his actions last week. He said he’ll apologize as soon as Brandi kisses his ass.

Roberts said that when you step into the ringside area you enter Archer and Roberts’ world. You enter a book where they are the authors.

Roberts said as far as he’s concerned, women are good at home wiping baby’s butts, cleaning, cooking, and occasionally keeping him warm if it’s really cold outside. Roberts said he has a woman who comes to see him but she makes sure he watches Archer matches because they get him excited.

Roberts said Cody has run out of time and run out of people to hide behind.

An engine revved and Cody drove a truck to the arena. This was supposed to be cool and badass but the big high spot for the truck was gently knocking over a barricade.

Cody got out with his fists taped and approached the ring. Archer and Cody had a strong brawl around the ring. Archer tripped Cody on the apron and Cody took a bump. Cody choked Archer with Archer’s hair braids.

Roberts told Archer to pull back and fight another day.

This was a good segment. The truck spot was a good idea that had some issues in execution.

**********

The announce team previewed the card for the evening. They then threw to a video package highlighting the teams in the tag division.

**********

Best Friends (w/Orange Cassidy) defeated Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy (w/Marko Stunt)

This was a good opener. All action.

Taylor and Jungle Boy kicked things off and grappled to a stalemate. Trent and Luchasaurus got tags. They traded power spots. Jungle Boy tagged back in and Trent cut him off with a backdrop driver.

Taylor accidentally aided Jungle Boy in hitting a doomsday device missile dropkick on Trent. Best Friends suplexed Luchasaurus on the floor. They hugged on the floor but were wiped out by a Jungle Boy tope con giro, leading to a commercial break.

After the break, Luchasaurus was working on Trent. Trent hit a spear and both tagged out.

Taylor and Jungle Boy traded strikes. Jungle Boy dropped Taylor with a lariat. Trent took out Jungle Boy with a one-legged dropkick. Luchasaurus hit Trent with a question mark kick.

The finish was chaotic.

Orange Cassidy teased a dive from the stage to the ring. Rey Fenix entered and took out Cassidy with a kick. MJF jumped out of the crowd and posted Jungle Boy.

Taylor then hit an Awful Waffle on Jungle Boy for the pin.

**********

After the match, Wardlow jumped the rail and beat up Marko Stunt.

**********

The announcers threw it backstage to Alex Marvez who tried to get a word with Jon Moxley as he arrived at the building. Moxley ignored Marvez and pushed the camera operator aside.

Marvez said they might need some extra security backstage as he’s never seen Moxley so upset.

**********

Hikaru Shida defeated Penelope Ford, Britt Baker & Kris Statlander

This had a lot of good action but was also sloppy at times.

Shida and Statlander worked in tandem at the outset. Baker teased a curb stomp on Shida in the ropes but Statlander saved. Statlander and Shida hit a double backbreaker on Baker.

Ford hit a crossbody to Shida and Statlander but they kipped up out of it. Baker tried for Lockjaw on Shida but Statlander saved. Statlander fish-hooked Baker’s nose.

Statlander and Shida hit a stacked up superplex on Baker. Ford climbed to the top rope and Statlander just powerlifted her off the top and dropped her on Baker. Shida hit a high knee on Statlander and all four were down before an ad break.

Statlander was going for a Big Bang Theory on Shida as the match resumed. Baker blocked and hit a destroyer. Ford hit a back handspring cutter on Baker for a near fall. Statlander hit a Michinoku driver.

Shida tossed Statlander and Baker outside. Ford hit a missile dropkick on Shida for a two count. Sabian jumped on the apron and made out with Ford. Shida used a sloppy cradle on Ford for a two count.

Shida hit a falcon arrow. Baker used Lockjaw on Statlander on the floor.

With Statlander and Shida on the floor, Shida hit a backbreaker and a running knee on Ford, then stacked her up for the pin.

**********

The announcers put over the win by Shida but emphasized that Baker was more intent on damaging Statlander than winning the match.

**********

A Suge D video promo aired. He said he’s spent sixteen years trying to claw his way to the top. He said Jericho has such little respect for him that he called him Pineapple Pete.

Suge said that since Jericho started calling him Pete, life has been sweet. He drank from a pineapple. Awesome.

**********

Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Championship was announced for Double or Nothing.

**********

Omega entered for the next match but was jumped by Santana and Ortiz as he entered.

Matt Hardy entered in his Damascus persona and made the save. Hardy bit Santana and brawled with him around ringside.

Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega defeated Santana & Ortiz

As the match began, Omega countered some Ortiz offense. Ortiz hit his tiger style move and JR crapped on it.

Omega hit a double Kotaro Krusher on Santana and Ortiz. Hardy got a tag and hit a side effect and a legdrop on Santana for a near fall.

Santana took the referee and Ortiz tripped Omega on the apron to get the heat before a commercial break.

After the break, Santana used a crab, a thumb to the eye and an abdominal stretch on Omega. Santana and Ortiz hit a double northern lights suplex on Omega. Ortiz used the move for a two count.

Omega and Ortiz traded strikes. Omega hit a snap dragon suplex and made a hot tag to Hardy.

Hardy used another side effect on Santana for a two count. Hardy got whipped over the top rope and took a nasty hit on the apron on his way to the floor. Those bumps don’t look like the worst but similar bumps ended Rick Rude’s career and sent Shawn Michaels to retirement for four years.

The match broke down. Omega hit a plancha to Ortiz. Hardy hit Santana with a Twist of Fate but Ortiz broke up the pin.

Santana used Ortiz as a launch pad and hit a cannonball on Omega for a near fall. Omega countered out of a Street Sweeper.

Hardy got a tag and used a hanging guillotine on Ortiz. Sammy Guevara limped to the ring in a neck brace, holding a steel chair. Guevara got in the ring but ate a Twist of Fate on a chair.

Hardy teased a superplex on Ortiz. Ortiz blocked but Omega hit him with a v-trigger as he sat on the turnbuckle. Hardy then hit a Twist of Fate off the buckle and got the pin.

**********

Taz spoke with Darby Allin backstage. Taz said Cody beat Allin with a basic amateur wrestling move. He said he can offer Allin some tips.

Allin said he knows how Cody beat him. Allin said he placed third in the state of Idaho in amateur wrestling one year and walked off.

**********

Lexy Nair interviewed Shida. Shida’s English has improved tremendously in a short amount of time.

Shida said she’s excited and the best thing she can do is win the championship.

MJF said he and Stunt will have some fun and that he’s better than us and we know it.

**********

Chris Jericho (w/The Inner Circle) defeated Pineapple Pete

Jericho wrestled in a Pineapple Pete shirt.

Jericho slapped Pete. Pete fired back with a flurry of strikes and two back elbows in the corner.

Pete went for a third back elbow but Jericho cut him off with a Judas Effect and covered for a three count.

**********

Jericho cut a promo. He said now that the Pineapple Pete threat has been done away with it’s time to turn to The Elite.

He said The Elite are licking their wounds and pouting. He said Hangman Page has been living in the woods. The Bucks have been off feeling sorry for themselves.

Jericho said The Inner Circle challenges The Elite to a Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing. He said if you thought the street fight last week was something, wait until you see a Stadium Stampede. He said he’ll be there waiting for The Elite to accept.

Vanguard One flew in. Vanguard returned the tiny Inner Circle shirt he took from Jericho weeks ago.

Jericho said it’s a good thing because he had warrants out for grand larceny in seven states against Vanguard.

Jericho said that Vanguard must be there to accept the challenge on behalf of The Elite and the answer must be yes.

Jericho then asked Vanguard if he had given any more thought to his offer to join The Inner Circle.

Jericho then said that the offer has been rescinded, as Inner Circle has its sixth member, Floyd the baseball bat.

Inner Circle proceeded to destroy Vanguard with the bat. Hardy ran in for the save but was too late. Inner Circle bailed and Hardy looked at Vanguard sadly.

**********

Mr. Brodie Lee came to the ring for the main event with Moxley’s title belt. He demanded to be announced as the self-proclaimed AEW Champion.

Mr. Brodie Lee defeated Christopher Daniels

Lee gave Daniels quite a bit and Daniels was protected in losing.

Lee used a variety of power moves in dominating the first segment of the match. Daniels hit one tope but it was all Lee aside from that. Lee would occasionally ominously stare at the other members of SCU as they sat in the crowd.

After the break, Lee hit a slingshot senton for a near fall. Daniels came back with a DDT and a frankensteiner.

10 jumped on the apron. SCU jumped the rail and went after 10. The referee paid attention to the skirmish on the floor. Lee brought a chair into the ring.

Lee tried to use the chair on Daniels. Daniels kicked the chair into Lee’s face. Lee got his hands up on a chair shot to the head. Daniels hit a flatliner.

Daniels applied a Koji clutch. Three members of the Dark Order jumped in the ring to break it up. Colt Cabana and SCU jumped in the ring to dispatch of Dark Order.

Daniels escaped a chokeslam and hit an Angel’s Wings. Lee kicked out at one.

Daniels went for another Angel’s Wings but it was blocked. Daniels hit a BME for a two count.

Daniels went for a flying headscissors off the top but Lee dropped him with something resembling a powerbomb.

Lee then hit the discus lariat for the pin.

**********

Moxley entered through the stands, attacking members of Dark Order on his way to the ring. Lee threw a member of Dark Order at Moxley. Moxley nailed the masked man with a Paradigm Shift.

Lee and 10 left the arena with the title.

Moxley cut a promo. He said he doesn’t suffer disrespect or fools. He said Lee made a foolish mistake and will pay for it with interest.

Moxley said the championship is more than a piece of metal. He promised a hailstorm of violence at Double or Nothing.

He said Lee might find out that his AEW career is over before it started at Double or Nothing.

Moxley destroyed the ringside area as the show ended.

AEW Dynamite live results: Matt Hardy’s AEW in-ring debut

Cody vs. Joey Janela has also been announced for tonight’s show. Last week, Cody advanced to the finals of the TNT Championship tournament at Double or Nothing with a win over Darby Allin in the semifinals.

Cody’s fellow Nightmare Family member QT Marshall will take on Lance Archer tonight. Archer also punched his ticket to the TNT Championship tournament finals with a win last week. Archer defeated Dustin Rhodes in the main event of last Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Plus, MJF will make his return to AEW television on tonight’s show.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with a video recap of Lance Archer vs. Dustin Rhodes from last week’s show.

Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone welcomed us to the show as pyro went off. Roughly a dozen wrestlers were shown sitting in the audience.

**********

Cody defeated Joey Janela

This was an excellent opener.

After locking up, Cody hit a series of shoulder tackles. They traded a series of pinning combinations and quick two counts. Cody hit a delayed vertical suplex for a near fall.

Janela used a series of strikes to take over. Janela blocked a Cross Rhodes and sent Cody into the middle rope with a drop toehold. Janela used a bodyscissors and the pace slowed.

The match spilled to the outside. Janela whipped Cody into the barricade and connected with a series of forearm strikes. They brawled onto the ramp and stage area. Janela went for a running clothesline. Cody blocked and hit a disaster kick.

Cody hit a moonsault off the stage. Back inside, Cody hit a pump kick. Janela answered with a big boot and hit a top rope elbow for a near fall.

Cody hit an inverted superplex for a two count. Cody removed his weight belt. Janela blocked Cross Rhodes and hit a back elbow. Cody went for a cutter but Janela turned it into a German.

Cody took a flip bump off a Janela lariat. Janela missed a moonsault. Cody came off the top rope and hit a cutter for a two count.

The finish saw the two trade a series of punches. Janela went to hit the ropes. Cody grabbed him and hit Cross Rhodes for the pin.

**********

A video package aired highlighting the top contenders in the women’s division and the champion Nyla Rose.

**********

Rose entered for her match. Schiavone interviewed her on the stage. Rose cut a generic heel promo and ripped on Tony.

**********

Nyla Rose defeated Kenzie Paige

This was a squash.

Rose hit some clubbing strikes. Paige went for a sunset flip. Rose blocked and hit a release German. Rose hit a swanton bomb. She had Paige pinned but pulled her up at the count of two.

Rose hit two powerbombs, then hit a Beast Bomb for the pin.

**********

MJF cut a promo. He said a lot of wrestlers who are almost 30 are calling themselves the next big thing. He said he is the big thing after being on TV for six months at 24 years old.

He said when people knock him they compare him to legends like Flair, Rock and Piper. He said he’s none of those people, he’s better. He said he’s so good and secure in his spot that he can afford to miss TV.

MJF said he’s injury free and returns to in-ring action next week.

**********

A Shawn Spears video promo aired. He questioned why Cody let Dustin take such a beating last week, then said it was because Cody is selfish.

**********

Back live, Schiavone interviewed Spears and MJF in the crowd.

Spears shaved his facial hair and looks twenty years older.

MJF and Spears complimented each other. MJF said Spears was the bravest man he’s ever known for having the guts to expose Cody. Spears said MJF’s comeback story is the best in the history of sports.

Schiavone told MJF that Tony Khan has not only signed MJF to a match next week, but he’s signed him to face Jungle Boy at Double or Nothing.

**********

Jon Moxley defeated Frankie Kazarian

This went through a commercial break. I didn’t like the match before the break. I liked the action after the break.

The pacing here was strange as they opened with mat wrestling, would kick up the intensity with strikes, then slow things back down again with more holds.

Kazarian used a side headlock. Moxley used a rear chinlock. Moxley clotheslined Kazarian onto the stage as the show went to a commercial break. The match continued picture-in-picture.

They brawled around ringside during the break. Moxley hit an x-plex for a near fall. Moxley hit a high knee and Kazarian fell to the floor. Moxley went for a diving attack off the post. Kazarian nailed him with a big boot.

Kazarian hit a missile dropkick and used a slingshot DDT for a near fall. Moxley blocked a neckbreaker and hit a release German. Kazarian hit a backstabber and used an unprettier for a two count.

They traded strikes, then traded Woo dropkicks. Kazarian hooked on a kneebar and trapped Moxley’s arms as well. Moxley kicked out of the hold.

Kazarian hit a leg slice in the ropes and Moxley rolled to the apron. Kazarian hit a suplex. They traded stiff strikes. Moxley hit a lariat.

Kazarian used two quick cradles for near falls, then suplexed Moxley into the buckle.

The finish saw Kazarian miss a diving attack off the top rope. Moxley hit the Paradigm Shift out of nowhere for the pin.

**********

10 and other masked members of Dark Order attacked Moxley after the match. Chris Daniels and Scorpio Sky ran in for the save and were overwhelmed.

Once things were well in hand, Brodie Lee sauntered out. He hit Daniels with a chair shot on the stage. He made his way to the ring and hit a discus lariat on Moxley.

Lee cut a promo. He said he’s answering the bounty that Moxley put on his own head last week.

Lee said he’s a leader, he makes lives extraordinary and he’s not the same guy that used to be on the same level as Moxley.

Lee said there’s no crowd here to lift Moxley up and Moxley has the crown jewel of wrestling, the AEW title.

Lee challenged Moxley for the title. He said he doesn’t know who Moxley is, a movie star, a fighter, a fatherless boy. Lee sat the mic in front of Moxley and told him to answer the challenge.

Moxley said all Lee had to do was ask.

Lee and Dark Order again attacked Moxley after he accepted the challenge.

I felt that this was a good segment that went too long.

**********

We got a strange Brandi Rhodes video promo.

She fired back at Jake Roberts. She said she’s not Cleopatra, Delilah or Monica as he suggested many weeks ago. She said it’s not 1991 and if he slaps her she’ll hit back.

She said her husband is the good guy, kissing babies, the face of the company, but she’s harder to pin down. She said she’s the CBO of AEW and he should keep her name out of his dirty, old mouth.

It’s clear that Brandi and Cody are the faces in this program with Archer but this was a heel promo. I don’t know Brandi the person. Brandi the performer is a natural heel.

**********

Lance Archer (w/Jake Roberts) defeated QT Marshall (w/Brandi Rhodes)

Marshall hit one vertical suplex. This was a dominant Archer win aside from that.

Archer hit all of his trademark offense. Marshall is fundamentally sound but he took the worst bump I’ve ever seen for a pounce in this match.

During the bout, Britt Baker hit Marshall with a shoe from the audience. Brandi responded by throwing the shoe deep into the arena.

Archer hit Blackout and had Marshall pinned but decided to pull him up at the count of two. Archer then used the EBD Claw for the pin.

**********

After the match, Baker jumped the rail and laid out Brandi on the floor with a DDT. She tossed Brandi into the ring.

Roberts climbed into the ring with a snake. He put the snake on Brandi and hovered over her, delivering some pelvic thrusts for good measure.

Cody was nowhere to be found. The announcers tried to explain the angle saying that Cody must have been in the trainer’s room getting medical attention.

This was a heavy angle. Aspects of it were clever, especially managing to lay Brandi out without man-on-woman violence. I didn’t care for it and found it kind of sleazy. I’m sure that was the idea.

**********

Moxley vs. Lee for the AEW Championship, Cody vs. Archer for the TNT Championship, Jungle Boy vs. MJF and a Casino Ladder Match for an AEW title shot were announced for Double or Nothing.

**********

Taz interviewed Darby Allin backstage. Taz offered Allin some professional help and advice after Allin “pinned himself” last week. Allin ignored Taz and walked off.

**********

Brodie Lee vs. Christopher Daniels, MJF in action, Jurassic Express vs. Best Friends, Hikaru Shida vs. Britt Baker vs. Kris Statlander vs. Penelope Ford, Chris Jericho vs. Pineapple Pete and a Jake Roberts/Lance Archer promo were advertised for next week’s Dynamite.

**********

Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara defeated Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega in a Street Fight

This was an entertaining main event. They fought all over two arenas and used a variety of plunder.

Everyone was dressed for a street fight. Omega and Guevara wore jeans. Jericho and Hardy wore leather pants. Jericho brought an Inner Circle-branded baseball bat to the ring.

Hardy hit Guevara with a crucifix bomb for a two count right away. Omega missed a you can’t escape when Guevara got his knees up. Jericho whipped Hardy into the entrance tunnel. Jericho and Guevara worked over Omega 2-on-1.

Hardy returned to the ring dressed as a Team Extreme version of himself and cleaned house. Jericho cut Hardy off with the bat and Hardy bladed.

Omega hit Guevara with a v-trigger. Omega and Hardy set up a table and a ladder. Hardy hit a splash off the ladder through the table. Hardy covered but Jake Hager pulled the referee out of the ring.

Hager unofficially joined the match as the fight spread out across the entire arena. During a commercial break they brawled through the seats onto the concourse.

They then brawled next door into the Jaguars stadium.

Jericho used a trash can and a bag of ice as weapons on Hardy. Guevara slammed Omega into an ATM. Jericho and Hager shut Hardy in a freezer.

Omega slammed Jericho into a golf cart and into some trash cans. Omega slammed Hager into some barricades. Jericho suplexed Omega onto a barricade. Jericho used a traffic cone as a witch hat.

Hardy escaped from the freezer and had changed costumes again. Hardy drove the golf cart near Jericho and Jericho sold like he was hit by the cart.

Omega jumped in the golf cart and Hardy and Omega ran into Guevara with the cart. Guevra took a hell of a bump and was actually clipped by the cart.

Omega climbed onto a hydraulic lift and hit a spectacular moonsault off the lift to Hardy, Hager and Jericho.

Omega went for a One-Winged Angel on Jericho. Santana and Ortiz ran in for the save. Hager, Santana and Ortiz hit a triple powerbomb on Hardy through a table. Omega got triple powerbombed onto the roof of the golf cart.

Jericho hit Omega with the Judas Effect. Guevara and Jericho both covered Omega for the pin.

**********

The closing scene of the show saw The Inner Circle posing in front of the scoreboard in the stadium with “The Inner Circle” name in lights.

AEW Dynamite live results: TNT title tournament semifinals

The TNT Championship tournament semifinals take place tonight on AEW Dynamite.

One semifinal bout will see Lance Archer face off with Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes earned his spot in the semis with a win over Kip Sabian on last week’s episode. Archer secured his place by winning against Colt Cabana.

The other semifinal will see Cody take on Darby Allin. These two have faced off twice before in AEW. They wrestled to a time limit draw at Fyter Fest last June, and Cody defeated Allin in their second matchup on the January 1, 2020 edition of Dynamite.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has been advertised as delivering a promo on tonight’s show. Moxley retained the championship with a win over Jake Hager two weeks ago. With no card yet announced for next month’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view, this promo could be about establishing a contender for Moxley’s title.

“The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee will be in action tonight against Marko Stunt in a match that was set up on Dynamite last week.  Also announced is a Best Friends vs. Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc no countout/no DQ match. Penelope Ford will be in Sabian and Havoc’s corner, while Orange Cassidy will accompany Best Friends.

Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone will once again be on commentary for tonight’s show.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Schiavone and Jericho previewed the card. A Wardlow squash match was added to everything that had already been announced.

**********

TNT Championship Tournament semifinal: Cody defeated Darby Allin

These guys had a hell of a match. This took up nearly the first 30 minutes of the show.

The story of this match was Allin working over Cody’s left knee.

They began with some chain wrestling. Allin targeted the knee with kicks.

They brawled outside where Allin dodged a charge from Cody. Cody accidentally took out Brandi. Cody briefly got the upper hand until Allin went back after the left knee. Back in the ring, Allin used a heel hook, a kneebar and an Indian deathlock variation.

As Cody rolled outside to collect himself, Britt Baker hit him with her shoe from the audience.

After a commercial break, Cody made a comeback. He landed a lariat, an x-plex and a disaster kick. Allin cut Cody off and hit Cross Rhodes for a near fall.

Allin used a figure four. Brandi returned to the ring with a bottle of water. Cody took a swig. Allin connected with a forearm and Cody did a spit take.

Allin went for a second rope Coffin Drop. Cody caught him coming in and hit Cross Rhodes. Allin kicked out. Cody went for a top rope Coffin Drop. Allin got his knees up.

The finish saw Allin go up top for a Coffin Drop. He landed it, but Cody pulled him over into a backslide and pinned him. This was the Triple H/Jeff Hardy finish from No Mercy 2007.

**********

Best Friends (w/Orange Cassidy) defeated Jimmy Havoc & Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford) in a no DQ/no countout match

This was chaos. Everyone worked hard but this went nearly fifteen minutes which was just too long.

Trent and Sabian hit topes early on. Havoc threw a chair at Cassidy’s head and took him out. Cassidy went backstage.

Havoc suplexed Taylor on a pile of chairs on the floor. Trent speared Havoc on the floor. Havoc used a ladder and hit a slingshot on Trent into the ladder. This ladder didn’t appear to be a gimmicked ladder and it didn’t break until late in the match.

Trent and Taylor threw chairs at Havoc’s head and did their hug spot. Havoc pulled Trent off the top rope onto the ladder. Taylor hit a piledriver on Sabian onto a pile of chairs. Taylor went for a cover but Ford pulled him out of the cover.

Cassidy ran back down to the ring and topped Havoc from sending Taylor through a ladder. Ford accidentally hit a knee strike and a spear to Sabian as she tried to hit Cassidy. Cassidy hit a dive off the post to Ford and Sabian.

The finish saw Taylor hit an Awful Waffle on Havoc on a pile of chairs for the pin.

**********

A tremendous Britt Baker “role model” video package aired.

This co-starred Rebel, formerly of TNA, who is one of AEW’s makeup artists. Baker referred to her as “Reba.”

Baker said not everyone can be a role model. People who wear glasses can’t unless they’re a doctor. Fat people can’t be role models. People with snaggle teeth can’t. Baker used a photo of Schiavone to illustrate these points.

This was a comedy home run.

He said he’ll be back swearing and bleeding in front of a crowd again soon and we’ll all be together again soon.

Moxley said Dynamite is live next week. He’s throwing some Metallica cds in his truck and driving east. He knows he has a target on his back with Double or Nothing coming up.

Moxley ended the promo by telling us to support local businesses by ordering takeout, and most importantly, not to forget to call our grandmothers.

**********

Jon Moxley vs. Frankie Kazarian and MJF returning were advertised for next week’s show.

Also announced was Kenny Omega and Matt Hardy vs. “Le Sex Gods” Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a street fight.

**********

TNT Championship Tournament semifinal: Lance Archer defeated Dustin Rhodes (w/Brandi Rhodes)

This picked up in the last segment, but they had to go through two commercial breaks and worked at a lethargic pace in the first two segments.

Archer sent Rhodes rolling outside with a pounce. Archer grabbed a chair from under the ring. Rhodes grabbed the chair away. Archer kicked the the chair into Rhodes’s face. Rhodes bladed.

Archer continued to work on the cut after a commercial break. The idea was to let the blood provide drama and tell the story. They worked very, very slowly.

Rhodes fired up and hit a series of strikes. He hit a last shot in the corner, which was not worthy of a DQ. Rhodes missed a knee drop and Archer used a chinlock before another ad break.

Rhodes hit a destroyer. They traded strikes. Rhodes ducked two lariats and hit his own lariat. Archer ducked a bulldog but Rhodes hit a powerslam.

Rhodes went for ten punches in the corner. He hit five punches before Archer cut him off. Rhodes hit Cross Rhodes but Archer kicked out at one.

Rhodes came off the top rope into a chokeslam by Archer for a two count.

Archer walked the top rope and hit a moonsault for a near fall. That was nuts.

Archer went for Blackout but Rhodes blocked. Archer hit a chokeslam for a two count. Rhodes used a backslide for a quick two count.

Archer exposed a turnbuckle, then rammed Rhodes face-first into it.

QT Marshall came to ringside with a towel. He threatened to throw in the towel. Cody ran out and stopped him.

Cody asked Dustin if he wanted him to throw in the towel. Dustin refused.

Archer pulled Rhodes to the center of the ring and used the EBD Claw to pin him.

AEW Dynamite live results: TNT title tournament continues

The TNT Championship tournament continues tonight on AEW Dynamite.

In one half of the bracket, Sammy Guevara will face off with Darby Allin. The two have been feuding on and off for months. Guevara was responsible for Allin being out of action after an attack with Allin’s skateboard. They met in a singles match at AEW Revolution that saw Allin come out on top. The winner of Guevara vs. Allin will face Cody in the semifinals.

The other tournament match will see Kip Sabian take on Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes has vowed to retire if he loses the match. The winner of this bout will face Lance Archer in the other semifinal match.

Jimmy Havoc will take on Orange Cassidy in a singles bout tonight. This was set up last week when Havoc planted Cassidy with a DDT on the floor, blocking him from interfering in the Kip Sabian vs. Chuck Taylor match.

Wardlow, Brodie Lee, and Kenny Omega have been advertised for in-ring action tonight as well, but their opponents have not been named.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with Cody starring in a video package. This was a chance for him to show off his acting chops as he sat in front of a bank of monitors as if he were Batman in the Batcave.

Cody handicapped the remaining competitors in the TNT tournament. His delivery was very good.

**********

Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone previewed the rest of the show.

**********

A Sammy Guevara video package played. Sammy cut a strong promo. He said Darby beat him at Revolution but he’s going to beat him tonight.

**********

A Darby Allin video package played. This was shot in the black and white style that has been used in most of his promo packages. Allin vowed to win.

*********

TNT Championship Tournament match: Darby Allin defeated Sammy Guevara

This was a very good match. Not as good as their Revolution bout, but this was hampered by two commercial breaks and an empty arena.

Guevara attacked Allin as he made his entrance. Guevara beat Allin all around ringside. He pulled a ladder from under the ring and set up a ladder bridge from the apron to the barricade, then placed Allin on the ladder.

Guevara hit a splash off the top rope through the ladder. The ladder didn’t appear to be gimmicked and it didn’t break. The ringside doctor checked on both men as they went to the first commercial break.

After the break, the opening bell rang. Guevara went to work on Allin in the ring with strikes. He teased a superplex but Allin blocked. Allin took off Guevara’s left boot and began stomping and headbutting the ankle.

Guevara hit a springboard cutter for a two count. Allin barred Guevara’s knee and used a heel hook. Guevara hit a boot to the face for a near fall. Allin was bleeding from the nose.

Allin rolled to the floor before the second commercial break of the match.

Back from break, Allin went for a suicide dive but hit the barricade instead. That’s a spectacular spot but it’s profoundly stupid.

Guevara barely connected on a 630 splash. Allin grabbed the rope and forced a break on the ensuing pin attempt.

The finish saw Allin hit a backpack stunner. Guevara tried a burning hammer GTS but Allin blocked. Allin then rolled through into the Last Supper and pinned Guevara.

**********

Broken Matt Hardy cut a promo. This seemed to set up Hardy vs. Guevara at the Hardy compound, with Hardy working his way through the Inner Circle until he gets to Jericho. Nothing was officially announced, though.

Hardy said that Jericho never responded to his challenge. He said maybe if Jericho doesn’t want to come to the Hardy cimpound, maybe Sammy Guevara should come face him instead.

Hardy said maybe Jericho didn’t respond to him because Broken Matt is too intense. He said maybe Jericho needs to hear from Matt’s mortal vessel.

Matt Hardy then appeared without the Broken gimmick and addressed Jericho. He said he’s known Jericho for 20 years. He said he’s got the back of his friends The Elite and he won’t let Jericho use AEW as a platform.

Hardy vowed to kick Guevara’s ass and kick the ass of the whole Inner Circle.

This was a good promo, particularly once he dropped the Broken character.

**********

Kenny Omega defeated Alan Angels

Jericho was tremendous on commentary in this match. Omega gave Angels a ton of offense. Too much, really.

Angels hit a leg kick. Angels had an answer for everything Omega tried early on. Angels hit a senton. Angels used the ring skirt to trip Omega. Angels got a two count off a springboard move.

Omega missed a V-Trigger but managed to connect with a snap dragon suplex. Omega hit a V-Trigger but Angels kicked out.

Omega connected with another V-Trigger for the pin.

**********

A Scorpio Sky video package played.

Sky said he wanted to be a wrestler for as long as he could remember. He said he suffered a serious back injury in 2008 or 2009 that threatened his career.

He said he doesn’t believe in miracles but one day he woke up and his back didn’t hurt. He got back into wrestling but always had bad luck as far as getting a big break.

Sky said everything changed in 2017 when SCU formed.

**********

They played the Road To video where Dustin Rhodes vowed to retire if he lost tonight while leaving Cody a voicemail.

**********

A Being The Elite commercial played, hyping episode 200.

**********

Orange Cassidy defeated Jimmy Havoc

I like both of these guys but this went way too long.

Havoc attacked Cassidy before the bell and dominated the match.

Havoc choked Cassidy with Cassidy’s own jacket and t-shirt. Havoc crotched Cassidy on the barricade and suplexed him on the floor.

Havoc hit a DVD and used an armbar. Havoc bit Cassidy’s hands.

Cassidy finally made a comeback. He hit a crossbody and a swing DDT. Havoc cut Cassidy off again. Cassidy came back with a splash.

The match broke down into chaos. Penelope Ford jumped on the apron. Chuck Taylor tried to pull her off. Instead, Ford did the splits on the apron. Kip Sabian flew in with a tope over the top rope to the floor, wiping out Taylor and Trent.

Back inside, Cassidy tripped Havoc and used a crucifix for the flash pin.

**********

Havoc immediately killed Cassidy wit a DDT after the match. Taylor and Trent jumped in to make the save. Some kind of multi-person match between Best Friends and Cassidy, Havoc, Sabian and maybe Ford seems imminent.

**********

MJF cut a promo from “his rat’s house” in Cape Cod.

MJF said he suffered a hangnail while gambling at his last Dynamite appearance. He said it’s become life-threatening and may require surgery. The camera pulled back to reveal MJF in a sling.

He vowed to return and win the AEW title.

**********

Wardlow defeated Lee Johnson

Just a quick squash here.

Johnson scored with one dropkick. Wardlow hit a series of suplexes and won with his F-10.

**********

A Brodie Lee video aired.

A Dark Order hopeful was shown. His girlfriend Samantha broke up with him by voicemail. He got injured in a college football game and turned to the Dark Order website.

The hopeful met with Lee who asked him how tall he was, how much he weighed and whether or not he played college football. The hopeful answered 6’2″, 240, and yes he played football.

Lee offered him success.

**********

Brodie Lee defeated Justin Law

Lee won a squash with a discus lariat after hitting a variety of suplexes and throws.

**********

Marko Stunt taunted Lee from the audience. Lee stared him down. This looks to be a match sometime soon.

**********

Best Friends vs. Jimmy Havoc and Kip Sabian was set up via a backstage promo with Best Friends. No official announcement was made for when this will take place.

**********

Brodie Lee vs. Marko Stunt was announced for next week. A double main event of both TNT tournament semifinals was also announced for next week.

**********

Another episode of The Bubbly Bunch aired.

Sammy lamented that they had been down lately. Jericho said that they should do Flim Flam dances to cheer themselves up. Sammy wasn’t in until Jericho promised hand sanitizer to the winner. Flim Flam was a Tik Tok spoof, in case you needed this spelled out.

Guevara won the dance contest.

I enjoyed this much more than the first episode of The Bubbly Bunch.

**********

A hype video played for the main event with strong promos from both Rhodes and Sabian.

**********

TNT Championship Tournament match: Dustin Rhodes (w/Brandi Rhodes) defeated Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford)

This really could have used a few more minutes.

Rhodes took the early part of the match. He worked on the left arm of Sabian. Sabian backed Rhodes into the corner. From there, Ford grabbed the ankle of Rhodes which allowed Sabian to take over.

Sabian hit a penalty kick for a near fall before a commercial break.

Sabian worked on the left leg. Rhodes did a nice job of selling like he was having a tough time walking and running. Rhodes used a quick crucifix for a two count.

Sabian hit a knee to the chest and used a lariat for a near fall. They traded cradles for near falls.

Rhodes made his comeback and hit a bunch of signature spots, including his powerslam.

Sabian cut Rhodes off and hit a DDT for a near fall. Sabian hit a series of punches from mount. Sabian took the referee.

With the ref distracted, Ford jumped in the ring. Brandi jumped in and hit her with a spear.

The finish saw Rhodes make it to his feet and hit a code red for the pin on Sabian.

**********

Rhodes celebrated in the ring after the match.

**********

As the show was going off the air, Schiavone said that Tony Khan just told him in his ear that Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc vs. Best Friends in a no DQ match was signed for next week.

**********

I thought this show was paced pretty well but it lacked some sizzle outside of the opening match.

I would have given the main event more time and cut the Havoc/Cassidy match some.

Empty arena wrestling continues to be a tough watch but there’s great effort from the crew here.

AEW Dynamite live results: Jon Moxley vs. Jake Hager title match

The AEW World Championship will be on the line on tonight’s episode of Dynamite.

Jon Moxley will defend his title against The Inner Circle’s Jake Hager. This will be Moxley’s first defense since winning the championship at Revolution in February.

The Moxley vs. Hager match will be contested under no holds barred rules. Jim Ross has been advertised as doing commentary for the match, with Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone doing commentary for the rest of tonight’s show.

The TNT Championship tournament also continues tonight with a quarterfinal bout between Lance Archer and Colt Cabana.

Sammy Guevara will face Sugar Dunkerton tonight. Dunkerton made his AEW debut on the episode of Dark that aired on March 24, working under the name Suge D.

Dunkerton appeared in the audience on last week’s Dynamite, drawing attention from Jericho on commentary. Jericho referred to Dunkerton as “Pineapple Pete.” The match graphic for tonight’s episode refers to Dunkerton as “Sugar D.”

Fresh off a victory over Billy Gunn on this week’s Dark, Shawn Spears will be in action this evening. Britt Baker has also been advertised against an unnamed opponent.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with a strong Jake Roberts promo.

Roberts said that TNT must have had Archer in mind when they designed the TNT Championship. He said Archer turns heads when he walks into a room. He said Archer is 275 pounds of steel. He’s got a chip on his shoulder from being forced out of the country to make a living in Japan.

He said Cabana is good, but not good enough. He said when Archer wins the TNT belt, they’ll be one step closer to what they want.

**********

Jericho and Schiavone previewed the rest of the show for tonight.

**********

A Colt Cabana video package played. Cabana said that he’s a little over the top, a little silly sometimes, but he’s dominated around the world for fifteen years.

Cabana said he’s not looking past Archer. This was a strong promo from Cabana.

**********

TNT Championship tournament quarterfinal match: Lance Archer defeated Colt Cabana

This was effective in that Archer looked like a killer.

Archer knocked down one of the wrestlers in the babyface crowd section on his entrance.

Archer went after Cabana with a forearm strike before the opening bell. Cabana fired back with chops. Archer cut Cabana off with power moves and began working him over.

Archer hit his version of a Vader bomb for a near fall. Archer took a stroll around the ring before a commercial break.

After the break, Archer missed a second rope splash. Cabana came back with an elbow strike, a flying apple and a splash of his own.

Cabana hit flip, flop and fly. Archer countered with a pounce and a chokeslam.

The finish saw Cabana block a charge into the corner. Archer powered Cabana up in the corner, then hit Blackout for the pin.

**********

Britt Baker cut a promo from her dental office. This was funny.

She said rule one of being a role model is always fight fair. She said Hikaru Shida didn’t fight fair when she gave Baker a deviated septum last week.

Baker said she fought on last week even without the usual support from her fans in the crowd.

**********

Ariel Helwani and Taz gave their predictions for the title match. Helwani picked Hager. Taz picked Moxley.

**********

Taz broke down Hager’s head and arm choke and the different grips that he uses in applying it. This included footage from Hager’s Bellator fights.

**********

Britt Baker defeated Cassandra Golden

Baker hit a kick to the kneecap and then a superkick to the chin.

Baker curb-stomped Golden over the bottom rope and pinned her.

**********

Ron Funches and Mike Goldberg gave predictions for the main event via video promo. Funches picked Moxley. Goldberg picked “his buddy” Jake Hager. Goldberg was a fountain of charisma and made sure to work in his catchphrases.

**********

A video promo aired for Double or Nothing on May 23.

**********

An Inner Circle segment titled “The Bubbly Bunch” played.

Santana and Ortiz ran down The Young Bucks. Sammy Guevara said he’s not a fake Latino. Hager said he’s going to beat the shit out of Moxley. Jericho did some comedy.

There are hits and misses in wrestling comedy. This was a miss.

**********

Sammy Guevara defeated Suge D

Guevara used a waistlock takedown. They did a comedy dance spot. Suge hit a nice armdrag. Guevara cut Suge off with a kick, then used a delayed vertical suplex for a two count.

Guevara missed a charge into the corner and Suge made a comeback. Suge hit some chops and uppercut forearms.

Guevara answered with a running knee, then hit an inverted GTS for the pin.

**********

Guevara cut a promo after the match. He said Suge D was light work.

He said in the first round of the TNT Championship tournament, he’s going to beat the shit out of Darby Allin, the face-painted weirdo.

Guevara went after Suge again after his promo. Allin ran in to make the save and Guevara retreated.

**********

MMA ref Big John McCarthy and Excalibur gave their predictions for the main event. McCarthy picked Hager. Excalibur picked Moxley.

**********

Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford) defeated Chuck Taylor

Jericho put over Ford’s leather pants.

The match began with a solid chain wrestling exchange. Sabian hit a springboard dropkick. The match spilled outside and Taylor hit an x-plex on the apron.

Taylor missed a moonsault. Sabian answered with a springboard dropkick for a two count. Sabian hit a penalty kick for another near fall. Cassidy took the referee and Sabian sent Taylor outside. Ford hit Taylor with kicks and forearm shots.

Sabian sat Taylor on the top rope and teased a dragon suplex off the top, which would be profoundly stupid in an empty arena. Taylor blocked and landed on his feet off a moonsault attempt.

Taylor used a falcon arrow and a sit-out powerbomb for a pair of near falls.

Taylor missed a double stomp. Sabian got a near fall off a draping suplex.

Taylor hit soul food for a near fall. Ford jumped on the apron to distract Taylor by taking her jacket off. Cassidy then jumped on the apron and took his jacket off. Tremendous.

Jimmy Havoc jumped out of the crowd and hit Cassidy with a DDT on the floor.

The finish saw Ford hit a flying headscissors off the top rope and Sabian rolled Taylor up for the pin.

This was one of the better empty arena matches you’ll see.

**********

We got some more main event predictions. Actor Dan Soder picked Moxley. Ortiz and Guevara picked Hager.

**********

Shawn Spears defeated Justin Law

Law took two of the most awkward bumps I’ve ever seen off snapmares.

Spears wasn’t taking Law seriously and gave him the opportunity to try to wrestle him from an amateur wrestling position. Law used the position to score a quick two count on Spears.

Spears hit some chops, then hit his C4 finisher for the pin.

**********

A pair of TNT tournament matches were announced for next week in Sammy Guevara vs. Darby Allin and Dustin Rhodes vs. Kip Sabian.

Jimmy Havoc vs. Orange Cassidy, Brodie Lee in action and Kenny Omega in action were also announced for next week.

**********

Bellator fighter Josh Thomson and Santana predicted that Hager will beat Moxley.

**********

AEW World Championship match: Jon Moxley defeated Jake Hager to retain the title

There was great effort from all involved here. This was the strongest Jim Ross performance in a long time and he did so without a color commentator.

All that said, this needed a crowd badly. No matter how hard he works, this was still Jake Hager in a 30 minute main event with zero crowd reaction. That’s tough sledding.

Moxley got a single-leg takedown and Hager pulled guard. Hager escaped. Moxley used a Fujiwara armbar to transition to a cross armbreaker attempt. Hager powered out and hit a strike.

Moxley tried an ankle pick. Hager rolled through and tried for an ankle lock. Moxley reached the ropes and Hager broke cleanly.

Moxley hit some chops, then used a wristlock to transition to a STF attempt. Moxley went for a kimura. Hager escaped and hit some stomps in the corner.

After a striking exchange, Moxley sent Hager outside and hit a plancha. Moxley followed Hager to the floor and locked on a cross armbreaker. Hager escaped with strikes before an ad break.

Hager threw Moxley into the barricade. Moxley raked Hager’s eyes and threw him over the barricade. Moxley went for a Gotch-style piledriver on concrete but Hager hit a backdrop instead.

They fought into the seats. Moxley locked on a figure four around a railing. Moxley gave up the hold and hit a series of chops.

Hager escaped a guillotine and dropped Moxley on a barricade as they continued to brawl throughout the building. Back at ringside, Hager sent Moxley into the ring steps.

Back inside, Hager missed a Vader bomb. Moxley connected with a Regal knee strike. After a double down, Hager hit a gutwrench powerbomb for a near fall.

After another commercial break, the two traded clotheslines. Hager blocked another Gotch attempt and used an ankle lock. Moxley rolled through into a cradle for a near fall.

Moxley caught Hager coming off the second rope and hit a DDT. He went for a cover but Hager rolled into his head and arm choke. Moxley reached the ropes for a break.

Moxley rolled to the floor. Hager followed him out and used a chair to attack Moxley’s abdomen. Hager wedged the chair between the middle and top turnbuckle. Moxley missed a charge and hit the chair. Hager rolled him up for a near fall before the final ad break.

Hager used the chair on Moxley’s left leg. Hager then applied an ankle lock. Moxley kicked Hager off.

Moxley hit a double arm DDT, but used it to apply a guillotine. Hager slid out.

They traded strikes. Hager hit a low blow. Moxley hit Hager with the chair.

Moxley then hit a Paradigm Shift on the chair and pinned Hager.

**********

Moxley cut a promo into the camera after the match. He said he’ll fight anywhere any time. He said AEW is the hottest promotion in the world.

AEW Dynamite live results: TNT Championship tournament begins

AEW Dynamite airs tonight from The Nightmare Factory in Norcross, Georgia.

The TNT Championship Tournament will begin with a first round match between Cody and Shawn Spears. Cody and Spears last squared off at AEW All Out last August in a match where Cody was victorious.

Britt Baker will take on Hikaru Shida in a women’s division match. Baker taunted Shida from the sidelines during Shida’s match last week, setting up this contest. Baker also threatened to attack Shida with her shoe.

Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa will team against the Best Friends duo of Trent and Chuck Taylor. Omega holds the AEW World Tag Team titles with Hangman Page, but Page has not appeared on Dynamite in recent weeks.

Lance Archer and Brodie Lee are also scheduled for singles bouts tonight against unnamed competitors, likely in squash matches.

The commentary team for tonight’s show will be Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with a strong Jake Roberts promo. He asked Cody if he was a man or a mouse and asked him to squeak up and tell him.

Roberts said he expected Cody to slip on a banana peel and lose tonight so he wouldn’t have to face Lance Archer later in the tournament.

Lance Archer defeated Allen Angels

Angels didn’t get a graphic. Archer won a squash with the Blackout.

**********

Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone previewed the rest of the card. Jericho put over Britt Baker’s ring gear, he said he loves sparkly outfits.

**********

Hikaru Shida defeated Britt Baker

These two beat the hell out of each other. The match went a little long but was very intense and very good. Maybe the best match of Baker’s career.

Tony commented that Baker had an attitude change in recent months. Jericho said he was in the same place as Baker in 1997. Then he started shaking babies and kissing hands rather than the other way around and became the Jericho we know today.

Baker used underhanded tactics to take control on Shida. Baker hit a very real punch to the face on the mat. Baker started playing to the camera, allowing Shida to come back with an attack on the floor. Shida hit a knee lift before a commercial break.

Shida was still in control after the break. Baker used a quick cradle for a two count. Shida used a triangle choke but Baker forced a break.

Baker hit a slingblade and a double arm suplex for a near fall. Baker went for Lockjaw but Shida forced a rope break.

They traded stiff strikes. Baker ended up with a bloody nose. Shida hit a Michinoku driver for a near fall. They traded cradles for near falls.

Baker hit a swinging neckbreaker and a superkick for near falls.

The finish saw Shida hit a gutbuster on the top rope, then follow up with a shining wizard for the pin.

**********

Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa met backstage. Omega said they’re teaming tonight and they used to be a great team in DDT but they need a team name. Nakazawa suggested “Best Friends.”

Orange Cassidy and Best Friends entered and they had a comedy pull-apart. Omega said if he and Nakazawa win tonight they get the Best Friends name.

**********

A video package detailed the latest AEW rankings. I hope they do this every week.

**********

A strong video package aired hyping the Jake Hager vs. Jon Moxley title match next week.

Moxley said he’s not in the business of putting smiles on faces. He said he’s going to beat Hager and it’s going to be ugly and violent.

Hager did a much better promo than last week in this package. His wife Catalina Hager said that either Hager comes him a victor or he doesn’t come home. Hager’s MMA coach put over his dedication.

Moxley said Hager popped right up from the move that’s put down everyone in this business in the Paradigm Shift. He said they don’t get paid by the hour and next week’s match could go three or thirty minutes.

**********

Best Friends defeated Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa

Taylor and Trent won after hitting Strong Zero on Nakazawa.

This went approximately as long as Edge and Orton at WrestleMania.

Nakazawa did his baby oil and underpants spots. That’s fine. It just went way too long.

Omega and Nakazawa cut off Taylor, then Trent, then Taylor, then Trent. Orange Cassidy jumped in and did some comedy spots with Nakazawa.

Schiavone and Jericho weren’t burying this on commentary but they weren’t sure how to sell it either.

**********

A Brodie Lee video aired. He ripped on two minions for not dressing as sharply as another minion and wearing a tie. Lee said perception is reality and the perception when walking through an airport is important.

**********

Britt Baker cut a promo. She said Shida is the dirtiest wrestler she’s ever been in the ring with and she’s lucky Shida didn’t touch here teeth. Baker said actually, if Shida had broken her teeth, Britt could fix them herself because she’s a dentist.

**********

We got another Moxley/Hager video package. Moxley cut a great promo about how there are no judges or scorecards when Hager steps in the ring with him.

Moxley said in no uncertain terms, he’s going to “f*** Hager up.”

Hager’s talking was not very good in this video. He said AEW will be better off with Hager as champion.

**********

A Matt Hardy promo aired.

He ripped on Jericho for targeting his allies The Elite. He said he won’t allow the circle that’s internal to take over AEW.

He said Sammy Guevara is a false god and a false Latino. He said he can’t wait to eat Proud and Powerful because he loves Puerto Rican food. He said all Hager needs to complete his transformation to a Jakenstein is two bolts in the side of his head.

Hardy called on Vanguard 1 to bring him the Inner Circle shirt from Jericho. Vanguard said Jericho’s shirt was a dumpster fire.

Hardy challenged Jericho to come to the Hardy compound and face him in The Elite Deletion.

I think the Broken gimmick is stale and doesn’t fit in AEW but if you disagree, you would probably enjoy this promo.

**********

Brodie Lee defeated Lee Johnson

This is the second Lee Johnson match I’ve seen this week. I’ve learned that he throws a great dropkick and takes a hell of a flip bump.

Lee won a quick squash. He suplexed Johnson right on his head, hit a black hole slam, then used the discus lariat for the pin.

*********

Cody (w/Brandi Rhodes) defeated Shawn Spears

Cody came out of the gate strong and used a cutter for a near fall. Cody used a variety of holds and got some quick covers for two counts.

Cody really made a point of covering chest to chest and not hooking legs as he brought up on commentary last week. I’m not sure which technique would be more effective in a shoot. But after years of hooking a leg being emphasized in pro wrestling, it looks weird to see a different cover.

Cody missed a moonsault which allowed Spears to take over before the first commercial break.

Spears hit a suplex on a guardrail on the outside, then continued to beat Cody down in the ring. Spears missed a springboard frog splash and Cody got his knees up.

Cody made a comeback with his weight belt. Cody missed a Disaster Kick. Spears hit a spinebuster for a two count before the second commercial break of the match.

Spears pulled a table from under the ring. Cody nailed him with a suicide dive. Spears hit a double underhook superplex but could not follow up with a cover.

They did a spot where they teased Brandi going through the table off the apron. Instead, Spears tossed Cody over the top through a table. Cody made it back in after a countout tease.

Cody blocked a C4 and hit two Cross Rhodes. Spears kicked out.

The finish was unique. Cody locked on a figure four. Spears put his shoulders on the mat in the hold and Aubrey Edwards counted the pin.

**********

This show had some life thanks to the presence of extras and enhancement talent serving as the crowd for the night. Way more than ten people in the room if that’s still a thing we’re talking about.

Shida and Baker had a killer match and Spears and Cody were solid in the main event.

The promos and hype videos were mostly good. I’m down on the Matt Hardy stuff and thought the comedy tag match went way too long, but otherwise enjoyed the show.

AEW Dynamite live results: Cody & Allin vs. Spears & Guevara

After weeks of airing from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, AEW Dynamite airs tonight from an undisclosed location.

New restrictions on hotels in Jacksonville and the presence of a new coronavirus testing center in a parking lot close to Daily’s Place forced the shift.

It is unclear how much of tonight’s show will be live versus taped, as our Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that a significant amount of footage was recorded yesterday for use in upcoming shows.

Announced for tonight’s show is a tag team match featuring Cody and Darby Allin teaming against Shawn Spears and Sammy Guevara. All four have also been announced as competitors in the upcoming TNT Championship tournament.

Guevara will face Allin and Cody will face Spears in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The four other tournament participants will be announced this evening as well.

Also announced for tonight’s show is Kenny Omega vs. Trent. These two last met in singles competition in NJPW in November 2017, when Omega successfully defended the IWGP United States Heavyweight title.

Lance Archer is also scheduled to make his AEW in-ring debut tonight against an unnamed competitor.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Kip Sabian vs. Dustin Rhodes and Lance Archer vs. Colt Cabana were announced as the other two matches in the first round of the TNT tournament.

Billy and Austin Gunn stood in the babyface section of the crowd. Kip Sabian, Penelope Ford, Jimmy Havoc and Britt Baker stood several feet apart on the heel side.

Cody, his dog Pharaoh and Tony Schiavone previewed the card for this evening.

**********

Kenny Omega defeated Trent (w/Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy)

They had a very good TV bout. The story of the match was that Trent was getting the best of the wrestling exchanges. Omega became frustrated and resorted to brawling. Trent became frustrated at that and started using brawling tactics himself.

They began with a handshake.

Omega hit his kotaro krusher. Trent connected on some chops. They brawled around the arena and fought into the crowd. Omega hit a pop-up powerbomb into a post in the crowd.

They traded strikes in the ring. Omega hit a V-Trigger. Trent hit a piledriver. Omega blocked a swing DDT and connected with a snap dragon suplex.

Omega took a flip bump off  lariat. Omega hit a powerbomb and a V-Trigger. They traded shots on the apron as they really began teasing a time limit draw.

Trent hit a nasty suplex off the top rope. He never had his feet set and the ropes looked loose and he almost killed Omega with a head drop superplex. Trent covered for a two count.

Omega hit a V-Trigger and used the One-Winged Angel for the pin with a minute left.

**********

A video recapped the Matt Hardy/Chris Jericho angle from last week. That feels like it was a year ago at least.

**********

A Hikaru Shida hype video played.

**********

Hikaru Shida defeated Anna Jayy

Jayy looked good here in her debut and they had a competitive match.

Jayy hit a knee strike. Shida hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and a knee lift before jawing with Britt Baker on the outside.

Shida hit a forearm strike. Jayy came back with kicks and used three quick cradles for near falls. Shida tried a triangle choke but Jayy reached the ropes.

Shida hit a vertical suplex, a knee strike, then used the falcon arrow to pick up the pin.

**********

Shida and Baker exchanged more words after the match.

**********

A Jake Hager vs. Jon Moxley hype video played. Moxley and Chris Jericho were excellent in this video package.

Hager vs. Moxley in a no holds barred empty arena match for the AEW title was announced for the April 15 Dynamite.

**********

Colt Cabana joined Schiavone on commentary as Cody left to prepare for his match.

A Lance Archer hype video played. Jake Roberts cut a promo and said Cody might be smarter than he gave him credit for.

He said Cody might be smart enough to be afraid of Archer. Either that or his better half is ordering Cody to stay away. Roberts said Cody’s better half wears the pants anyway.

**********

Lance Archer defeated Marko Stunt

Archer dominated with a variety of power moves. Stunt hit a tope suicida and teased another dive, but Archer cut him off with a lariat and hit a pounce.

Archer hit a chokeslam. He had Stunt pinned but pulled him up at the count of two to dish out more punishment.

Archer then hit Blackout and pinned Stunt.

**********

Archer threw Stunt out of the ring and over the barricade onto the babyface side of the crowd after the match.

**********

A Brodie Lee video played. This week he freaked out over a minion not referring to him as Mr. Brodie, then went off on another for yawning.

**********

Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall (w/Brandi Rhodes) defeated 8 & 9

8 and 9 were masked Dark Order geeks. Marshall had the mask that Dark Order offered him last week. He tossed it aside and went on the attack.

8 and 9 got some offense on Marshall. Marshall came back with some impressive power spots and gave Dustin the hot tag. Dustin ran wild with trademark spots including his bulldog, powerslam and a flip dive off the apron.

Dustin and Marshall hit their tandem flapjack for the pin.

**********

Brodie came to the ring after the match to deliver a powerbomb to 8 or 9 for failing.

**********

A Jericho video promo played. This was essentially a rehash of last week’s angle, minus a Hardy appearance.

Jericho was in a hot tub at his estate. He ran down The Elite and used a variety of catchphrases. This was wildly entertaining.

Vanguard One approached Jericho. Jericho tried to apologize but couldn’t say te word “sorry.”

Jericho again offered Vanguard One a spot in The Inner Circle and placed a tiny Inner Circle shirt on a iny hanger on Vanguard. Vanguard flew away with the shirt.

Jericho ordered the hounds to be released at his his estate. The dogs chased the drone as it flew away.

Some will like this, some will hate this.

**********

Cody vs. Shawn Spears in a TNT tournament match was announced for next week.

**********

A Young Bucks video package showed Nick and Matt working in the ring as Nick prepared to come back from his attack at the hands of The Inner Circle.

They cut a positive promo encouraging everyone to live life to the fullest. Nick said he can’t wait to get back to wrestling but he’s not ready yet.

**********

Sammy Guevara & Shawn Spears defeated Darby Allin & Cody

This was a hell of a match.

Cody and Allin got some shine at the outset. They hit stereo suicide dives before the first commercial break of the match.

After the ad break, Guevara and Spears worked over Allin. They took money out of their trunks and were gambling on who could hold Allin up for a monger suplex.

Allin came back with an air raid crash on Guevara. Cody got a hot tag and ran wild with a disaster kick, a springboard cutter and a powerslam.

Guevara took the referee allowing Spears to pull Cody outside. Cody got sent over the barricade where the heels worked him over before the second ad break.

After the commercials, Spears and Guevara traded quick tags in working Cody over. Cody came back with a moonsault press on Spears and made a hot tag to Allin.

Allin hit a missile dropkick and a suicide dive to Guevara. Allin tried a second dive to Spears but got caught and sent into the barricade.

Things broke down as Guevara hit a dropkick sending Allin over the barricade. Cody hit a dive. Spears hit a C4 on Cody.

In a crazy spot, Allin shimmied up a support beam and hit a Coffin Drop to Guevara and Spears on the floor. Allin tried a scond Coffin Drop but got cut off. Guevara tossed Allin off the top rope into the barricade.

Cody hit a superplex to Guevara. Spears hit a frog splash to Cody.

Spears teased a chair shot to Cody. Allin pulled the chair away. Guevara grabbed the chair allowing Spears to roll up and pin Allin.

**********

After the match, Allin laid out Cody with a right hand.

**********

I would call this a thumbs up show. It had a lot of good wrestling. The angles were a bit more spotty and their success or failure depends on what you want out of your wrestling.

AEW Dynamite live results: Chris Jericho-Matt Hardy confrontation

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. The show will be produced on a closed set.

A face-to-face confrontation between Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy has been advertised. Hardy made his AEW debut last week on Dynamite as The Elite announced that Hardy would replace Matt Jackson in the upcoming Blood & Guts match. That match was originally set for this week, but has been postponed to a later date.

After being revealed as The Exalted One last week, Brodie Lee will make his AEW in-ring debut tonight.

Kenny Omega will defend the AAA Mega Championship against The Inner Circle’s Sammy Guevara. This will be the second time that the title has been defended on AEW programming. Omega retained the title in a win over Jack Evans on an episode of AEW Dark in November. Since then, Omega has defended the title once in AAA in a December win over Dragon Lee.

Also announced for tonight is a Cody vs. Jimmy Havoc singles match. Cody will also join the commentary team during tonight’s broadcast.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Tony Schiavone, Cody and Kenny Omega welcomed us to the show from the commentary desk. They previewed the card for the evening.

Rather than sitting ringside, the wrestlers providing the ambiance were sequestered in a trailer. This may be the best practice for public health, but it did not work nearly as well for television.

**********

Cody defeated Jimmy Havoc

This was a solid opener. Havoc got more offense than he would have in a standard squash, but Cody was in control most of the way.

They had a fundamentally sound opening sequence, trading tackles and an intricate series of cradles. Cody used a Cody Cutter and applied a figure four. Havoc raked the face to escape the hold.

Cody hit a suplex on the ramp and a running lariat that knocked Havoc back inside. Cody used an x-plex. He tried for another cutter but Havoc caught him in a flying armbar.

Havoc used small joint manipulation in applying a second hold but Cody escaped.

Cody hit two Cross Rhodes and pinned Havoc.

**********

After the opening match, a pre-taped Jake Roberts promo played.

His motivation for going after Cody was explained. He said he’s the best mind in wrestling and didn’t get so much as a phone call when AEW started.

He said Cody was afraid to bring Lance Archer into the fold because he saw him wrecking people all over the globe and was afraid.

Roberts called Cody “Caesar” and referred to Brandi Rhodes as a Jezebel, Delilah and Monica to Cody’s Bill. He said Cody can bring whoever he wants along, be it Brandi or Arn Anderson, so long as Jake and Archer get a shot. Jake said Cody should trust him. LOL.

This was a super promo.

**********

After a commercial break, Cody joined the commentary desk and said Jake’s promo was bitter and not where wrestling should be going. He said Archer can debut next week.

**********

A Darby Allin promo played. He said tonight, Sabian is a sacrifice for the sins of The Inner Circle, then set fire to a table covered with photos of Inner Circle members.

**********

Darby Allin defeated Kip Sabian (w/Penelope Ford)

Allin hit a nice springboard armdrag. Sabian rolled outside to collect himself. Allin missed a charge into the barricade when Ford pulled Sabian out of the way.

There was a production snafu here where Tony and Cody threw to a commercial break on TNT, continued to call the action for Fite TV, but were still live on TNT. Then TNT cut to a commercial mid-sentence.

After the break, Allin made his comeback. He hit slaps to the face and a jawbreaker. Sabian cut Allin off a second time and used an abdominal stretch around the ring post.

Sabian used a distraction from Ford to hit a hangman’s neckbreaker. Allin kicked out at two.

Sabian was still in control when Allin picked his ankle and used a modified figure four with a bridge called The Last Supper for the pinfall victory.

**********

Jake Hager defeated Chico Adams

Hager posted Chico’s shoulder. He hit a Vader Bomb and a uranage, then applied the head and arm triangle. Chico passed out. A total squash.

**********

Jon Moxley appeared after the match and confronted Hager. They traded strikes. Moxley hit a double-arm DDT. Hager picked Moxley’s ankle and applied an ankle lock. Moxley kicked him off, then Hager retreated.

They put over on commentary that these two are on a collision course.

**********

Moxley cut a promo and said he’s cleared for action. He said Hager walked away from a fight tonight but he won’t walk away next time. He said Hager will be carted away on a stretcher or Moxley will die trying.

**********

A video recapped Brodie Lee being revealed as The Exalted One last week.

Another video played showing Lee eating a steak dinner with Alex Reynolds and John Silver. Lee kicked Silver out for trying to take a bite of his dinner before Lee was finished eating. Lee told Reynolds to smarten his boy up.

Reynolds sneezed and Lee threw him out of the room as well.

You see, Vince McMahon likes steak and hates sneezing. If you get off on all things anti-WWE, this was for you. If you think that inside baseball references like this are counterproductive, this was not for you.

**********

Brodie Lee defeated QT Marshall

Lee used a variety of power moves to dominate the first part of the match.

Marshal made a brief comeback with a step-up enziguri and a second enziguri.

Lee hit a boss man slam, then used a discus lariat to pin Marshall.

**********

After the match, a masked Dark Order follower entered the ring and dropped a mask on the fallen Marshall, presumably offering him the chance to join.

**********

Vanguard 1 v2.0 provided a medical update on Nick Jackson, who is 61 percent recovered from the Inner Circle attack two weeks ago.

**********

AAA Mega Championship match: Kenny Omega defeated Sammy Guevara to retain the title

This was a super match and pretty easily the best empty arena match of the last few weeks.

They began with some nice chain wrestling. Guevara used an eye rake to gain the advantage. The match spilled outside where Guevara posted Omega and worked on his broken hand.

Guevara kissed a paper caricature of Brandi Rhodes as Omega sold before a break.

Guevara approached the real Brandi after the ad break and got slapped in the face. Not a DQ. Omega ran Guevara into the steel steps repeatedly.

Guevara used an armbar but Omega escaped. Guevara missed a standing moonsault and Omega fired off elbow strikes, a headbutt and some shots with his cast. Guevara escaped You Can’t Escape by biting Omega’s hand.

Guevara went back to working on Omega’s injured hand with stomps and strikes. Guevara used a chinlock into a commercial break.

They traded strikes after the commercial break. Guevara fought out of a snap dragon attempt and rolled through into a double stomp. Guevara hit a springboard cutter and a tope.

Omega caught Guevara off a springboard attack and hit a powerbomb, followed by a V-Trigger. Guevara blocked a Liger bomb and scored a two count.

Guevara missed a shooting star press. Omega hit two V-Triggers. Guevara escaped a snap dragon and hit a burning hammer. Omega hit another V-Trigger and a jay driller.

Omega then hit another V-Trigger and the One-Winged Angel for the finish.

**********

Chris Jericho entered for the main event promo segment. He called out Vanguard 1 and offered the drone a spot in the Inner Circle. He cut a promo on the drone and said he hated his beliefs and everything he stood for. That was hilarious. Vanguard flew away.

Matt Hardy appeared in the middle of the arena, then teleported to various places in the crowd before making it to ringside.

Jericho offered Hardy a spot in Inner Circle. Hardy said he is Damascus and more than 3,000 years old. Hardy said AEW is paradise and freedom and he can’t allow Inner Circle to ruin paradise. Hardy promised to delete Jericho.

The two did a nice mix of comedy and staying on point with the promo.

Jericho slapped Hardy. Hardy responded by dropping Jericho with a punch. Guevara hit the ring and attacked Hardy. Omega and Cody jumped up from commentary and made the save for Hardy.

Hardy, Cody and Omega stood tall in the ring. Hardy set off flames on the stage as Jericho and Guevara retreated to the back to close the show.

**********

This was not as strong of an outing as last week but still a good show. Clearly there were some more challenges and hurdles to overcome this week with a skeleton crew.

Cody did a great job on commentary and Schiavone was good on play-by-play. The two have an easy chemistry that played well. Omega was not as strong in the commentator role.

I may be in the minority, but the Broken Matt Hardy stuff feels dated to me. Hardy is great at reinvention and I can see him coming up with a tweak to make the act fresh again. It’s something of a strange fit at the top of the card here too.

It’s also worth noting that nothing was announced for next week beyond a hint that Lance Archer will make his in-ring debut. Another sign of the times in that from week to week, circumstances, available talent and best practices are changing and who knows what they’ll have to work with?

AEW Dynamite live results: Exalted One reveal, Blood & Guts advantage

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from Jacksonville, Florida. The show will be produced on a closed set.

The scheduled main event will see three members of The Elite face three members of The Inner Circle in a six-man tag team bout. Specific participants in the match have not been announced. The winning team tonight will earn the order of entry advantage in next week’s Blood & Guts match.

The Lucha Brothers will face Best Friends in a tag team match. On last week’s Dynamite, Best Friends and Orange Cassidy saved Private Party and Joey Janela from an attack at the hands of PAC and the Lucha Brothers.

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus are set to take on The Butcher and The Blade in tag team action. Last week’s episode saw the trio of Butcher, Blade and MJF defeat Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt.

AEW is hyping that the identity of The Exalted One will be revealed tonight. Plus, Hikaru Shida vs. Riho vs. Kris Statlander vs. Penelope Ford is advertised.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with Cody enter-ring in a dark arena. He addressed the television audience and urged them to be informed and to listen to science, but also not to live in fear. He stressed the importance of The Elite working together tonight.

Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega entered and pledged their allegiance in spite of the differences the group have had. The only question mark remaining was Hangman Page. Cody said he’s tired of putting over Page, but he believes he’s the best wrestler in The Elite.

Page entered. When asked if he would stand by The Elite tonight and at Blood & Guts, Page gave a slight nod.

Omega called for lights and pyro. This was a strong opening.

**********

JR, Excalibur and Taz ran down the card for tonight’s show. Tony Schiavone then interviewed MJF who was sitting ringside. MJF said he’s going to allow the undercard talent to get their TV time tonight. He was seated with Shawn Spears, Tully Blanchard, Jake Roberts, Lance Archer and Wardlow.

MJF and Spears appeared to be wagering on the matches. Schiavone acted appalled, but seemed interested when MJF asked if he wanted in on the action.

*********

Members of the roster began filling in the seats around ringside. Heels sat together on one side of the ring, babyfaces on the other.

**********

Lucha Brothers defeated Best Friends

Taylor and Fenix went to work on Fenix  and scored a lengthy bit of offense. Fenix came back with a question mark kick to Trent. Pentagon tagged in worked on Trent’s legs.

Trent got a hope spot in as the action spilled outside. Orange Cassidy distracted Pentagon. Fenix hit a huge tope ahead of a commercial break.

After the ad break, Trent hit a swing DDT to Pentagon. Taylor got a hot tag. Best Friends hit a tandem cutter. They built to their trademark hug spot, then bumped elbows instead of a full-on hug.

Cassidy hit a dive off the barricade. Trent hit a piledriver on Penta for a two count. Fenix and Taylor fought in the corner and took the referee.

Penta hit a low blow and the Lucha Bros followed with their tandem double stomp/package driver for the pin on Trent.

**********

Schiavone interviewed Best Friends after their loss. Taylor and Trent challenged Lucha Bros to a fight in the parking lot on the next Dynamite.

**********

Hikaru Shida defeated Riho, Kris Statlander & Penelope Ford

It looks like Ford is getting an overdue push. Statlander is a heck of an athlete but she seems to have one dangerous botch in every match she’s in. Shida and Riho were very good here.

Ford and Riho paired off. Ford sent Riho outside. Statlander and Shida doubled up on Ford but Kip Sabian tripped them from the floor. Statlander and Shida doubled up on Sabian. Riho followed with a high cross off the post to the floor.

Shida and Statlander paired off in the ring. Ford tried a tijeras off the top rope to Statlander, but Statlander didn’t catch her and Ford took a nasty landing. Shida hit a missile dropkick to Statlander.

Ford and Riho hit a double suplex to Shida. Ford hit Riho with a handspring back elbow. Riho hit Sabian with a baseball slide and a step-up knee.

Ford hit a springboard poison rana to Statlander. Shida blocked a back handspring and hit Ford with a falcon arrow for a near fall.

Shida then hit Ford with a shining wizard for the pin.

**********

Schiavone interviewed Colt Cabana after the match. Cabana put over Ford, but said she would be better off without her scheming boyfriend. Sabian and Cabana slapped each other. Cabana pie-faced Sabian and Cabana vs. Sabian looks to be a new program.

**********

Tony Schiavone interviewed Jon Moxley in a pre-tape from earlier in the day. Moxley was not medically cleared and barred from the building.

Moxley said he’s never been medically cleared and he goes where he wants, when he wants. He said there are enough problems right now and AEW doesn’t need him punching any cops tonight. He said he was going for a drive to clear his head.

Moxley  promised to be just around the corner wherever the Inner Circle goes. He said he won’t miss the party at Blood & Guts for anything.

**********

Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy defeated The Butcher & The Blade

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus got some shine on Blade in the opening minutes of the match. Jungle Boy tried a plancha and Butcher and Blade caught him and slammed him into the barricade. Butcher and Blade proceeded with a lengthy destruction of Jungle Boy.

Luchasaurus finally got a hot tag. He hit a series of kicks to Blade, then hit a standing moonsault off the apron to the floor on Butcher. Luchasaurus hit the Extinction Event to Blade. Butcher saved for Blade.

Butcher and Blade hit a combo Magic Killer/black hole slam for a near fall. MJF called for Butcher and Blade to go for their finish. The distraction allowed Jungle Boy to send Butcher outside with a knee strike.

Jurassic Express hit their tandem finisher on Blade and Luchasaurus got the pin.

They put over on commentary that MJF cost Butcher and Blade the match.

**********

The Exalted One Reveal

Evil Uno and Stu Grayson came to the ring. Uno told the production team to focus on his eyes as he spoke to the people at home. He said he’s promised the Exalted One is near and he always tells the truth.

Chris Daniels and Frankie Kazarian jumped the rail and climbed into the ring Daniels cut a promo. He said there is no Exalted One and it’s just Uno and Grayson.

Daniels was interrupted by a video promo from The Exalted One, dressed in a hooded robe.

The Exalted One said that he is here, the new credo of The Dark Orrder is they go where they want, when they want. He said Daniels needs to shut up. He said Daniels isn’t the first out of touch old man to underestimate him, but he will make sure that he is the last.

The Exalted One said he would formally introduce himself He is Brodie Lee.

The lights went off in the arena. When they came back on, Lee was in the ring. He hit Daniels with a big boot and a discus lariat.

Dark Order posed in the ring together, then Lee left. Dark Order followed as Kazarian tended to Daniels.

**********

Schiavone interviewed Jake Roberts and Lance Archer.

Roberts said Archer is here to fight, not talk. Roberts said Cody had the gauntlet laid at his feet and he ignored them.

Roberts said it would be one thing to try to stay out of harm’s way, but it’s another simply to ignore him. Jake said he’s a hall of famer and should be listened to.

He told Cody to think about it.

Schiavone then threw to an Archer hype video which saw him beating up a bunch of dudes in a backyard ring as Roberts looked on.

**********

Wardlow vs. Luchasaurus in a lumberjack match, Best Friends vs. Lucha Bros in a Parking Lot Fight and The Inner Circle vs. The Elite in a Blood & Guts match were announced for “the next Dynamite.”

They were very clear not to promise a show next week in case of circumstances beyond their control.

They also announced that Blood & Guts will be 5-on-4, as Nick Jackson’s internal injuries will prevent him from participating.

The main event is next.

**********

Jericho entered to join the commentary team. Sammy Guevara sang Judas. Per usual, Jericho excelled in his color commentary role.

Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz defeated Cody, Hangman Page & Matt Jackson

Cody hit Ortiz with a powerslam and an x-plex. Jackson and Page argued on the apron. The Elite tripled up on Ortiz. Page blind-tagged himself in and Jackson wasn’t pleased. Even with the dissension it was all The Elite early on.

Cody tagged back in and got cut off, shifting the momentum to Inner Circle. Hager hit him with a Vader bomb before a commercial break.

The beatdown on Cody continued after the ad break. Cody hit a Cross Rhodes to Ortiz but could not follow with a cover. Hager cut Rhodes off again before he could make a tag.

After the final ad break, Hager missed a Vader bomb, allowing Cody to make a hot tag to Page. Page hit a fall-away slam, a tope suicida, then used a sliding lariat on Santana for a near fall.

The match broke down. Cody hit a suicide dive. Wardlow grabbed Cody from behind the barricade. Page and Jackson used tandem offense on Santana in the ring.

Jackson called for an Indytaker. Page tried to hit it but got tripped from the floor by Hager.

Santana then cradled Jackson for the pin.

**********

Jericho cut a promo after the match. He gloated over the victory and banned all fans from future AEW events. He said even if the world changes tomorrow he doesn’t want any pumpkin-headed dipshits chanting for The Elite.

Jericho put over the the unity of his group versus the dissension in The Elite and put over the 5-on-4 advantage.

A drone flew in and interrupted Jericho. Jackson said The Elite won’t be outnumbered, as he made a call to someone who owed him a favor.

The camera panned to the second deck of the arena, revealing the debuting Matt Hardy.

Hardy made his “delete” motion towards Inner Circle as Jericho looked on, selling fear as the show closed.

**********

The crew did their best in spite of the circumstances tonight and put on another thumbs up show.

The matches generally went longer than they needed to, but they were dealt a tough hand and had to fill a lot of time. My hat is off to the producton crew and the roster.

The debuts were not unexpected, but very newsworthy.

AEW Dynamite live results: Mystery partner match, Blood & Guts rules

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.

With Kenny Omega not cleared for in-ring action after suffering a hand injury at Revolution, the announced main event will see co-holder of the AEW World Tag Team titles, Hangman Page, and a mystery partner face the Inner Circle team of Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara.

Last week’s show saw the new Death Triangle group formed, consisting of PAC, Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix. They will face Joey Janela and Private Party this evening in a trios match.

Jurassic Express vs. MJF, The Butcher and the Blade in a six-man tag has also been announced for tonight’s show.

The rules for the inaugural Blood & Guts match are set to be revealed tonight. That match will be held on March 25 in Newark, New Jersey, and will see The Inner Circle (Jericho, Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz) face The Elite (Omega, Page, The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes).

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with a video recap of last week’s show.

In a segment taped earlier in the day, Tony Schiavone interviewed Hangman Page, asking who his partner would be tonight. Page asked The Young Bucks to join him. Page said he wouldn’t team with Matt if he were the last man on earth. He said he would consider teaming with his younger, more talented brother.

Page then said that his partner tonight is a mystery, and walked off. Matt asked Nick to tell him that he wasn’t considering teaming with Hangman. Nick walked off without answering.

**********

Cody defeated Ortiz

This was a fine little opener, but the in-ring action was secondary to advancing multiple storylines.

After some misdirection spots, Cody hit a powerslam out of the corner for a one count.

Jake Roberts and Lance Archer walked through the crowd, then took ringside seats to watch the action. Archer is the client that Roberts made reference to last week.

Cody and Ortiz brawled around ringside. Back in the ring, Ortiz took the referee, allowing Santana to trip Cody. Ortiz continued working on Cody’s legs, then did some dancing.

Cody fired up and hit a forearm shot, an x-plex, then ten punches in the corner. Santana took the ref again. Brandi Rhodes hit Santana with her belt. Ortiz hit a superplex for a near fall.

Cody hit a tope suicida to Santana. Ortiz tried a tope to Cody, but he got caught and dropped face-first on the ramp. Archer teased jumping the rail, but walked out instead.

Ortiz blocked a Disaster Kick, then blocked a Cross Rhodes. Cody hit a dragon screw in the ropes, then used a figure four. Ortiz submitted.

After the bell, Santana jumped in and hit Cody with the mad ball. Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega ran in to make the save.

Jericho appeared on the screen with Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager. Jericho said Cody might have the upper hand tonight, but in two weeks, Jericho will beat all the “pumpkin-headed dipshits” in The Elite.

Jericho said if they were wondering where Nick was, they should know that he ran into him in the back. The camera pulled back to reveal a fallen, bloody Nick.

Cody, Matt, Omega, Dustin Rhodes and EMTs tended to Nick during the first ad break.

**********

Nyla Rose & Bea Priestley defeated Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander

They really make the referees look incompetent every week, don’t they? Here, Rick Knox rang the bell with all four competitors in the ring. Priestley and Rose attacked at the bell. Knox was aghast. Don’t ring the bell with a full ring, dude.

Shida hit Rose with a shoulder tackle, then was immediately cut off. Rose hit a legdrop for a two count. Priestley and Rose traded quick tags and continued working on Shida.

During a commercial break, Shida managed to tag Statlander. Priestley cut Statlander off and used an octopus hold.

Back from commercials, Priestley tried a double springboard kick out of the corner, but botched it. Statlander hit a backbreaker. Shida and Statlander hit some tandem offense.

Priestley hit Shida with a release German. Shida countered with a shining wizard. Rose tagged in. She missed a top rope guillotine knee. Shida hit an enziguri, then used a falcon arrow for a two count, with Priestley saving for Rose.

Rose and Priestley teased a doomsday device. Shida blocked it, then hit a superplex to Priestley. Rose popped up, hit a spear, then used a Beast Bomb for the pin.

After the bell, Priestley laid out Rose with a belt shot, so that could be a program going forward.

This match got better as it went along. All four of these women have a ton of raw talent, but it needs to be refined.

**********

A Chris Daniels video package played. This was a parody of the Dark Order promos that have been airing for months.

Daniels said the Dark Order sucks, he’s not The Exalted One, Grayson and Uno don’t have any answers, and there is no Exalted One.

Daniels challenged Grayson and Uno to singles matches. He said once he beats them and there is no Exalted One, he’ll prove that Dark Order sucks.

**********

MJF, The Butcher & The Blade defeated Jurassic Express

This was hardly a five-star classic, but it was a super fun match.

MJF took off his ring jacket to reveal an “I Pinned Cody” shirt.

They did some early comedy with MJF and Luchasaurus. MJF begged off, then Butcher and Blade attacked. I don’t think Luchasaurus even got one offensive move in before he was cut off. MJF, Butcher and Blade worked over his legs.

After a commercial break, Luchasaurus managed a tag to Jungle Boy, who ran wild after an awesome hot tag. Stunt jumped in and hit a tornado DDT to Butcher. Jungle Boy hit a tope suicida to all three heels. Luchasaurus then hit a step-up tope.

Luchasaurus hit a double chokeslam to Blade and MJF, then hit a standing moonsault for a near fall. Butcher and Luchasaurus traded strikes.

Stunt and MJF ended up the legal men. Wardlow took out Luchasaurus on the floor. The Bunny jumped on the apron and distracted Jungle Boy, allowing Blade to shove him off the top rope to the floor. MJF then used the Salt of the Earth to tap out Stunt.

**********

A Darby Allin video played. He dragged a Sammy Guevara dummy in a body bag behind a pickup truck.

**********

Tony Schiavone interviewed Britt Baker.

She heeled on the Utah crowd. She brought Tony his coffee.

She said the crowd all looked related to each other, they had high BMIs, poor oral health, and that Utah was boring because caffeine and alcohol are frowned upon.

She said she was there to serve as a role model. She said everyone should follow their dreams of being janitors, construction workers or dental assistants.

Big Swole interrupted. Baker hid behind Tony. Swole said all Baker does is talk. Bake said the only wrestler in Swole’s household that people care about is her boyfriend. Swole pointed out her wedding ring and said she’s married, bay bay.

Baker then threw coffee on Swole and ran off.

**********

PAC, Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix defeated Joey Janela & Private Party

PAC and Kassidy began in the ring with a nicce sequence of drop downs and leapfrogs. Kassidy hit Silly String. Penta and Janela tagged in. Penta went after Janela’s legs with kicks.. Janela hit a tope. Kassidy got cut off during a picture-in-picture ad break.

Janela got a hot tag after the break. He hit a tope suicida. Private Party hit Gin ‘n’ Juice on Fenix. Kassidy hit a swanton bomb. Quen hit a shooting star press. Pentagon broke up a pinfall attempt.

Death Triangle went 3-on-1 against Quen. Fenix hit a rope-walk springboard double stomp for a near fall. Quen hit a tope to the floor. Kassidy used PAC as a springboard to hit a dive to Pentagon. Janela hit a death valley driver on PAC on the apron.

Janela hit a top rope elbow on PAC for a two count. Penta and Fenix cut Janela off. Fenix hit a springboard cutter. Fenix and Penta hit their tandem double stomp/package driver. Fenix hit a tope to Private Party. PAC then hit Janela with Black Arrow and pinned him.

Death Triangle locked in a triple submission on Private Party and Janela after the match. Best Friends and Orange Cassidy entered for the save.

This was an awesome match, just all action.

**********

Lexie was with Dustin Rhodes backstage. Dustin said that whether Hangman likes it or not, Dustin is going to be his partner tonight because he’s tired of Inner Circle. He said they’re going to do some cowboy shit.

**********

Lucha Bros & PAC vs. Orange Cassidy & Best Friends, The Exalted One reveal, and a six-man tag for the Blood & Guts advantage were announced for next week.

**********

Blood & Guts rules were revealed:

  • 2 men enter the cage for a 5 minute round
  • Every 2 minutes another participant enters
  • Match officially begins after all 10 participants have entered the cage
  • Winning team is determined by making any opponent submit or surrender. No pinfalls.

**********

Jim Ross conducted an interview with Jon Moxley.

Ross asked about Moxley’s injuries at the hands of Inner Circle last week. Moxley said he’s not feeling good and he’s pissed off, but he’s not going to elaborate.

Ross said that Moxley and Hager are on a collision course. Moxley said he’s never been hit harder than he was by Hager, but Hager is just another guy.

Ross asked what’s up for Moxley at Blood & Guts. Moxley said he’ll be there. He said he’s in Inner Cricle’s blind spot, which should scare them if they’re as smart as they think.

This was a good idea, but it was awkwardly edited for time and not as effective as it could have been.

**********

Hangman Page & Dustin Rhodes defeated Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara

Jericho teased starting out with Page, but tagged out right away. Jericho and Page did some comedy with a fan’s beer on the floor. Page punched Jericho, who spit beer in the air. Page drank the beer.

Page tagged Rhodes, who hit some of his trademark spots. Guevara cut Rhodes off with a one-legged missile dropkick. Guevara and Jericho worked over Rhodes through a commercial break.

Jericho tried a Lionsault, but Rhodes got his knees up. Page and Guevara got tags. Page hit a running boot to Guevara, a springboard lariat to Jericho, then a fall-away slam to Guevara, then a dive to Jericho.

Rhodes hit a diving crossbody to Jericho and Guevara in the ring, while Page hit a moonsault off the post to the Inner Circle on the floor.

Page tried the Buckshot. Jericho blocked and went for the Walls. Page fought out. Guevara tagged in and missed a shooting star. Page took out Jericho on the floor with a rebound lariat.

Inside, Rhodes hit a destroyer to Guevara. Page followed with a Buckshot Lariat for the pin.

Inner Circle jumped in and beat down Page and Rhodes after the match. Omega ran in to make the save, but got hit by a Judas Effect.

Cody ran in and ran wild at first, but Hager cut him off with a belly-to-belly. Ortiz hit a suplex on Cody on the ramp. Jericho attacked Cody with a chair.

Inner Circle dragged Page to the top of the ramp and teased a powerbomb off the stage. Matt Jackson ran in and made the save. Matt and Page stared each other down. Matt flipped off Page.

Jericho hit Page and Matt with a chair, and Inner Circle stood tall to end the show.

There was one excellent match on this show, and some good storyline advancement. Thumbs up.

AEW Dynamite live results: Cody vs. Wardlow steel cage match

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cody is set to take on Wardlow in a steel cage match. If Cody wins, he will have fulfilled all of MJF’s stipulations and earn a match against MJF at Revolution on February 29.

Jon Moxley is scheduled to face Jeff Cobb in Cobb’s AEW in-ring debut. Cobb was brought in as a mercenary by Chris Jericho on last week’s episode. Jericho will defend the AEW World Championship against Moxley at Revolution.

Kenny Omega & Hangman Page will defend the AEW World Tag Team titles against The Lucha Bros tonight.

A tag team battle royal will also be held, with the winners earning a title shot at Revolution. SCU, Private Party, Alex Reynolds & John Silver, Santana & Ortiz, Jack Evans & Angelico, Best Friends, The Butcher & The Blade, StrongHearts, Jurassic Express, and The Young Bucks will be the teams facing off for the championship opportunity.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The tag battle royal kicked off the show.

THE YOUNG BUCKS WON A NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS TAG TEAM BATTLE ROYAL

Matt Jackson was the sole survivor. Both members of a team had to be eliminated, unlike a traditional tag team battle royal.

Jack Evans was tossed first. Private Party hit T-Hawk with the Silly String and threw him out. SCU was distracted by Dark Order’s spokesperson and eliminated by Reynolds and Silver. Dark Order’s spokesperson said that the Exalted One is coming, and told SCU to take note that Chris Daniels is not there. Raven was there in the crowd, for whatever that’s worth.

The Bucks superkicked Reynolds and Silver out.

Luchasaurus hit a pump kick and eliminated CIMA. Butcher tossed Nick Jackson. Santana and Ortiz eliminated Private Party. Luchasaurus eliminated Angelico. Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus got tossed out. Orange Cassidy saved Trent from being tossed. Chuck Taylor and the Blade got thrown out.

The final five were Matt Jackson, Trent, Butcher, Santana and Ortiz. Matt and Trent did the Best Friends hug spot. Butcher tossed Trent. Matt hit a spear to Butcher through the ropes, eliminating him.

Matt vs. Santana and Ortiz was the final three matchup. Matt hit a double northern lights suplex, but got cut off. Santana and Ortiz hit the Street Sweeper. Matt hit a superkick to Santana, a superkick to an interfering Sammy Guevara, then a superkick to Ortiz for the final elimination.

KRIS STATLANDER DEFEATED SHANNA

Britt Baker was on commentary. She brought Tony Schiavone a skinny latte.

They began very slowly, trading holds. Then they went through a commercial break, still working holds. I think we went about 6 minutes without a bump.

The pace picked up after the ad break. Statlander hit a blue thunder bomb for a near fall. Shanna hit a top rope rana and a DDT for a two count. Shanna hit a low dropkick for another near fall.

The finish came out of nowhere. Shanna tried a tornado DDT. Statlander caught her, then hit her Big Bang Theory for the pin.

This was just a match. I think the idea was more for the in-ring to serve as a backdrop for Baker’s commentary, but she has been much more entertaining in this role in previous weeks.

**********

A video played, showing highlights of Nyla Rose winning the Women’s title last week. A Nyla Rose promo is next.

**********

Tony Schiavone interviewed Nyla Rose. She heeled on the crowd. She said she’s the queen bee in this hive, no one can stack up to her, and she’s only going to be a one-time champ, because she’ll never lose the belt.

Kris Statlander and Big Swole came to the stage. Statlander pointed at Rose’s title. Swole got in Rose’s face and they did a pull-apart while Statlander just stood there.

Swole and Statlander have a ton of potential, but Statlander is number two in their rankings, while Swole is unranked. Why bother with rankings?

**********

A Jeff Cobb video played with a recap of his introduction last week. Cobb vs. Moxley is up next.

**********

Taz joined the commentary team for this match. I’m a fan of Schiavone, but Taz instantly became the best commentator at the desk.

Jericho, Guevara and Jake Hager entered and sat ringside, showing that they had tickets for the event.

JON MOXLEY DEFEATED JEFF COBB

Cobb hit an overhead throw, then a dropkick. They exchanged strikes on the floor, then Cobb slammed Moxley’s face into the ring steps. Moxley rolled inside, then hit a dive. Cobb hit a series of clubbing forearm shots. During a commercial break, Cobb sent Moxley over the baricade, where Jericho stomped him and hit him with the title belt.

After the break, Moxley went to work on Cobb’s left leg. Cobb responded with a Tour of the Islands. Cobb covered Moxley, but picked him before the three count. Moxley tried a dive off the post to the floor. Cobb caught him and hit an overhead belly-to-belly on the floor.

Moxley blocked a Tour of the Islands. Cobb blocked a Paradigm Shift. The finish saw Cobb hit a superplex. Moxley trapped Cobb’s leg on landing, turning it into a cradle for the pin.

After the bell, Jericho, Hager, Guevara and Cobb started stomping Moxley. Dustin Rhodes entered to make the save, but fell victim to the numbers game.

The lights went out. Darby Allin appeared on the stage to a huge reaction, then came to the ring via skateboard. Allin ran wild, using the board as a weapon.

When the dust cleared, Jericho and Moxley were the last two standing. Moxley and Jericho traded a few strikes, then Jericho bailed.

This was an effective segment to build to the pay-per-view. Well done.

AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: KENNY OMEGA & HANGMAN PAGE DEFEATED PENTAGON & REY FENIX TO RETAIN THE TITLES

This was a great, great match.

Page and Omega established the early advantage, using a series of tandem moves. The illegal man interfered liberally, aiding their cause. Omega hit a Kotaro Krusher and a you can’t escape, aided by a standing shooting star press from Page.

Pentagon and Fenix began making a comeback before a commercial break. After the ads, it was Page and Omega back in front, until Fenix hit a tornillo to Page, then Penta hit a destroyer to Omega.

Fenix ran the top rope and kicked Omega on the apron. Penta teased a piledriver on the apron, but Omega blocked. Fenix hit a rana out of the ring to the floor on Omega. Page hit a dive off the post to Fenix. This was an incredible sequence.

Page hit a pop-up powerbomb to Penta. Omega hit a V-Trigger. Page tried a Buckshot Lariat, Penta moved, and Page hit Omega. This was a great tease for the big explosion that we all know is coming.

Fenix hit a tornillo to the floor on Page. Penta hit a Penta Driver on Omega for a near fall.

Omega was left to face both Fenix and Penta with Page down on the floor. Omega hit a V-Trigger, kneeing Fenix out of the air.

The finish saw Omega and Page hit Fenix with a combination V-Trigger and Buckshot Lariat, Page covered and pinned Fenix.

The Bucks ran down and helped Omega up. Page left the ring and drank beer with fans.

I can’t say enough good things about this. Fenix and Pentagon are the best tag team in the galaxy and Omega and Page were every bit their equal tonight.

A video package played, highlighting the upcoming AEW action figure line produced by Wicked Cool Toys.

**********

PAC vs. Omega in a 30 minute iron man match and Best Friends vs. Butcher and Blade were announced for next week.

A video package recapping the Cody vs. MJF feud played. The main event is up next.

**********

The cage setup here was interesting. The bottom of the cage wasn’t secured to the ring, so I don’t think this thing is built for climbing. The truss supporting the cage can be climbed, as it’s secured to the floor.

STEEL CAGE MATCH: CODY DEFEATED WARDLOW

Rules were pinfall or submission only.

Cody hit a high kick. Wardlow no-sold it. Wardlow hit a lariat, then lawn-darted Cody into the cage. Cody bladed along the hairline. Wardlow hit some clubbing forearms during the final ad break.

After the commercials, Cody made a comeback. He hit a Cody Cutter, then ten punches in the corner. Wardlow hit a low blow, then something resembling an F-5. Wardlow tossed Cody into the cage door, which swung open.

Arn Anderson approached the cage door. MJF tried to goad Arn into slamming the cage on Cody just as he did to Dusty years ago. Arn hit MJF with the cage door instead.

Cody hit a powerslam. MJF hit a senton for a near fall. MJF tossed Wardlow the Dynamite diamond ring. Cody hit a low blow and hit Wardlow with the ring.

On the outside, MJF started to climb the truss supporting the cage. Brandi Rhodes nailed him with a chair. Arn then threw MJF over the barricade.

Inside, Cody hit Cross Rhodes for a near fall, then climbed the cage truss, hit a moonsault, then covered Wardlow for the pin.

MJF retreated to the aisle. Cody climbed the cage and taunted MJF, then waved to the crowd.

They didn’t do a ton here, but they accomplished what they needed to.

**********

Thumbs up to this show. The women’s division continues to be something of a cluster, but the rest of the show was very good with a mix of great wrestling and storyline advancement.

AEW Dynamite live results: Cody receives 10 lashes

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Number one contender Jon Moxley will be in action, facing Ortiz in a singles match. On last week’s episode, Moxley and The Inner Circle had a pull-apart at the start of the show.

Moxley closed the episode by attacking Inner Circle members Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz with a baseball bat. AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, Moxley’s opponent at Revolution on February 29, escaped before Moxley could get to him.

Cody receiving 10 lashes from MJF is also scheduled for tonight’s show. Cody agreed to the lashing as one of MJF’s stipulations to accepting a match at Revolution.

AEW World Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega and Hangman Page will team with The Young Bucks in an eight-man tag. Their opponents will be The Butcher, The Blade, and the Lucha Bros team of Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix.

Dr. Britt Baker is also set to take on the returning Yuka Sakazaki in a singles match.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Chris Jericho, Jake Hager and Sammy Guevara joined the commentary desk for the opener. Jericho is quite good on commentary.

JON MOXLEY DEFEATED ORTIZ

Ortiz targeted Moxley’s eye patch with strikes. He sent Moxley eye-first into the steps to get the heat. Back inside, Ortiz used a camel clutch. Moxley came back with a figure four, a suicide dive, then a black hole slam.

Ortiz sent Moxley over the top to the floor, then hit a tope. Ortiz tossed Moxley back inside. He hit a top rope splash and a fisherman suplex for a pair of near falls.

Santana jumped on the apron to provide a distraction. Moxley sent Ortiz into Santana. He teased a Paradigm Shift, but Ortiz blocked. Moxley then hit a double-arm DDT, but not the high-angle Paradigm Shift, for the pin out of nowhere.

Santana jumped Moxley after the match. Moxley fought him off, then pulled the keys to Jericho’s Ford GT from his pocket.

Moxley said, “An eye for an eye,” and spiked Santana in the eye with a car key. Moxley retreated through the crowd while Jericho, Guevara and Hager ran to the ring.

Medical personnel attended to Santana. An effective segment.

**********

Orange Cassidy entered with Best Friends. Best Friends vs. SCU is up after an ad break.

SCU DEFEATED BEST FRIENDS

The first half of this was all action. After a standard tackle and drop down sequence. Trent speared Sky on the floor. Kazarian hit a German suplex on Trent on the floor. Taylor hit a flipping neckbreaker off the steps to Kazarian. All four men were down on the floor. Orange Cassidy approached them, then laid down to join the group.

Trent sold the damage from the suplex on the floor the rest of the match. SCU took over with a swing DDT from Kazarian. Trent made a comeback with knee strikes and one-legged dropkicks.

The finish saw Sky dropkick Kazarian in the back as Kazarian hit a destroyer on Trent and pinned him.

After the match, Dark Order ran in. They laid waste to the two teams. Orange Cassidy climbed into the ring. Dark Order offered him a mask, but he refused, so he was beaten down as well.

Chris Daniels ran in for the save. He dared Dark Order to come after him, but they retreated. The commentary team put over the fact that we still don’t know the identity of the Exalted One that Dark Order takes their orders from.

The wrestling here was quite good, though a commercial in the middle of the match hurt the flow. That’s TV wrestling, though.

The angle was quite bad. They continue to try with Dark Order. It doesn’t work.

**********

Britt Baker vs. Yuka Sakazaki is up next.

YUKA SAKAZAKI DEFEATED DR. BRITT BAKER

They traded left arm wringers, jockeying for position. Baker forced Yuka into the corner, then choked her. Baker hit a Zack Ryder boot in the corner for a near fall.

Yuka made a comeback, including hitting her Magical Girl splash, a springboard off the top rope to the floor. Jim Ross made fun of the size difference between Baker and Yuka, then mocked the name of her move.

Back inside, Yuka hit a lariat and a rolling elbow. Baker cut her off with a superkick, then hit a neckbreaker for a near fall. Baker went for Lockjaw. Yuka pulled Baker into a crucifix and pinned her for the upset.

After the match, Baker grabbed the ring bell. She used the bell on Yuka. Aubrey Edwards took the bell from Baker, leaving Baker and Yuka in the ring.

Baker placed Yuka’s mouth over the bottom rope, then hit a curb stomp. Yuka sold her mouth, then supposedly pulled one of her teeth out of her bloody mouth. Baker then used Lockjaw.

This was a good attempt at getting real heat here in 2020. I think the AEW crowd wants to help, and were willing to play along. Picking Yuka for the angle probably helped with the squeamish feel they were going for, as she looks like a child.

**********

Time for a soapbox rant.

On commentary, Tony Schiavone is the perfect third man in the booth. He has enthusiasm, he tries to get things over. Excalibur is very good at what he does. In my opinion, Ross should either get with the program, or transition to a new role. He just doesn’t put over what he doesn’t like, or he outright mocks it. He gets names wrong. He doesn’t call moves.

I understand the value of his voice being the first you hear on the broadcast every week. Fine. Have him do the intro and serve as host, then throw it to the guys who are trying to be good at their jobs.

**********

The eight-man tag is next.

BUTCHER, BLADE, PENTAGON & FENIX DEFEATED THE YOUNG BUCKS, KENNY OMEGA & HANGMAN PAGE

This match was GREAT.

The story here is that Page has good chemistry with the other Elite members, but isn’t on the same page with them.

Page and Blade started out. Page hit a series of chops. Omega tagged in for a Kotaro Krusher. Nick got a tag. The Bucks hit dropkicks on an interfering Pentagon and Fenix. Butcher jumped in and ate a triple dropkick from Omega and the Bucks, who then hit a triple pescado. Page stood on the apron, looking sullen.

Just before a commercial break, Fenix hit a crazy springboard swanton off the top rope to the floor, wiping out Omega and the Bucks. Back inside, the heels worked over Nick during the break.

Back from break, Matt got a hot tag and ran wild with his locomotion northern lights suplexes on both Lucha Bros. Fenix hit a springboard armdrag to Matt. Pentagon and Fenix doubled up on Omega.

Omega and Butcher ended up the legal men. Omega hit a hurricanrana and tagged Page, who ran wild with an absolutely electric hot tag. He hit dives, suplexes, and a spectacular moonsault off the post to the floor.

Things were bonkers from here on.

Pentagon hit a destroyer to Matt. Butcher hit a powerbomb to Nick. Omega hit Fenix, Pentagon and Blade with snap dragon suplexes. Matt hit a sliced bread to Butcher. There was a superkick party. Omega hit a V-Trigger on Fenix.

Page and Penta ended up the legal men at the end of this insanity. The Bucks wanted Page to tag them in. Page refused. Penta hit a destroyer to Page. Fenix and Penta hit the combination double stomp/package driver on Page. Fenix then hit a tope to Omega. Penta pinned Page.

After the match, there was more trouble between the Elite. Page argued with the group, then left, then drank beer with fans.

I would enjoy this angle more if I had a better understanding of why Page wants to be his own man, and the relationships between all of these guys. It feels as though there’s an assumption that the audience knows who all these guys are and sees them as stars. This is week 18 of their TV. I don’t think the audience knows. I could watch BTE, or I could have it explained to me on TNT every week.

**********

After a break, Schiavone was in the ring with Omega. PAC was shown on the screen, with interviewer Lexy, and Women’s Champion Riho.

PAC said he’s supposed to be having a contract signing with Omega right now, but Omega ruined that. How? By having a match? PAC said clearly Omega doesn’t care about Michael Nakazawa, who he left for dead. Twice, actually. So I guess that’s what happened to Michael.

PAC then said we’ll find out how much Omega cares about Riho. I assume they’re a couple, but that’s never been explained.

PAC said he’s a bastard, but not a beast, and he won’t attack a woman. So Nyla Rose entered and laid out Riho instead.

Riho vs. Rose for the title was announced for next week. Omega and Page vs. SCU for the tag titles was announced for next week also.

**********

KIP SABIAN DEFEATED JOEY JANELA

Sabian hit a dropkick. Janela then no-sold some kicks and went on offense with strikes. Sabian sent him up and over to the apron, then hit a leg sweep, sending Janela crashing off the apron into the steps. Penelope Ford then slammed Janela’s face into the steps.

Sabian stayed on offense through a commercial break. After the ads, Sabian missed a springboard 450 to the floor. Janela hit a German on the floor. Back inside, Janela hit some more strikes. Sabian hit a backstabber.

Janela hit a DVD for a two count. They traded strikes. Sabian hit a DDT. Ford jumped up on the apron and kissed Sabian. Janela hit the ropes. He tried to hit Sabian, but nailed Ford with a back elbow, sending her to the floor. Sabian then used a schoolboy with a handful of tights for the pin.

Ford sold her knee, and Sabian helped her to the back. Good match, not a lot of heat.

Sabian should come out on top in this feud, there’s more chance for upward mobility for him than Janela, but Janela has to get a win here at some point. So far, he’s been punched in the balls and lost the only match.

**********

Jericho and his stablemates cut a promo backstage. Santana promised an eye for an eye next week.

**********

The Bucks confronted Page backstage. They wanted to know what happened out there and what his problem is. Matt said he thinks he knows what the problem is, intimating that it’s alcohol. He said if Page keeps it up, he’ll lose the tag titles next week.

After the Bucks left, Page drank from a pitcher of beer.

**********

Santana vs. Moxley was officially announced for next week.

A tag team battle royal was announced for two weeks from tonight in Atlanta, with the winning team getting a title shot at Revolution.

A PAC vs. Omega 30-minute ironman match was announced for three weeks from tonight.

**********

Dustin Rhodes cut a pre-taped promo. He told MJF that his brother is a lot tougher than MJF thinks.

First MJF and Wardlow, then Cody, entered for the main event lashing, which takes place next.

Cody took his shirt off during the commercial break. MJF said that his belt is too nice to touch Cody, then demanded that Cody give him his belt.

MJF hit Cody with the belt once. Cody fired up. MJF tried to bait him into an attack. Some heels came to the stage to watch. Butcher, Blade, Bunny, Guevara, Baker and Sabian watched on.

MJF hit another belt strike. Arn Anderson pushed his way past the heels and came to the ring for moral support. MJF hit a few more lashes. Dustin ran down and asked to take the remaining lashes for Cody. MJF said that’s not how this works, and told him to watch with everyone else.

The Bucks ran down after the next belt lash. Cody’s back was starting to welt up. Cody flipped off MJF. Wardlow asked for the belt with two lashes left. He hit a big one, drawing blood.

Dustin and the Bucks fired up the crowd before the last lash. Cody tried to fire up so he could stand up and take the last one, then collapsed.

Brandi Rhodes came to the ring and told Cody he could do it.

MJF hit the tenth lash across the chest. Cody dropped to the mat. The Bucks, Arn, Dustin and Brandi jumped in to tend to Cody.

MJF kicked Cody in the balls, then ran off through the crowd. Some babyfaces ran down to try to get to MJF, but he escaped with Wardlow.

MJF was posing with Wardlow in the crowd at the top of a concourse when it appeared that a fan tried to attack him. MJF got a couple of shots in on the guy before Wardlow and Security dragged the guy away. It appears that this was a plant, not an actual fan.

This was a good old school angle on a night where the angles were underexplained at best, and left a lot to be desired at worst.

**********

After a stretch of thumbs up shows, I didn’t care for a lot of the angles tonight.

After 18 weeks of TV, the legacy of this promotion so far is a lot of good matches that no one remembers, and some of the dirt worst angles since TNA.

I don’t want to be an “everything sucks” guy. I’m not trying to be contrarian. I just want wrestling that makes sense, with good angles that are fully explained, with characters that are properly developed.

Hopefully there’s more of that next week!

AEW Dynamite live results: Jericho, Cody, Young Bucks in action

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

A Jon Moxley promo has been advertised. Moxley defeated PAC on last week’s show to retain his number one contender status, and will challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World title on February 29 at AEW Revolution.

Cody is set to take on Kip Sabian (with Penelope Ford) in a singles match. Cody is feuding with MJF, while a program between Sabian and Joey Janela has had a couple of starts and stops.

A tag match between The Young Bucks and The Butcher and The Blade will take place. Butcher and Blade have acted as hired guns for MJF, while an angle was shot on last week’s Dynamite that saw Hangman Page mocking the Bucks, as he and Kenny Omega claimed the AEW Tag Team titles before they did.

In trios action, Jericho, Santana and Ortiz will face Darby Allin and Private Party.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

Moxley came out for a promo. He said Jericho is the kind of man who slams Dustin Rhodes’ arm in a car door, and the kind of man who tried to take his vision by slamming a metal spike in his eye.

Moxley said he’ll have to keep his one good eye in the back of his head, watching his back until he takes the AEW title from Jericho on February 29. He said Jericho might not make it to Revolution, and told Jericho to come out and take his beating like a man for once in his punk-ass life.

Jericho entered. The crowd sang along to his entrance music. Jericho called the fans typical Cleveland idiots. He told Moxley he saw Mox’s mom backstage and she looked fetching. He said he might call her later. He said he apologized to Moxley’s mom for what he did to him, but explained to her that it was Moxley’s fault.

Jericho called out the Inner Circle and challenged Moxley to a 5-on-1 fight. Moxley said it wasn’t 5-on-1, but 5-on-the entire arena, because Moxley was born and raised in Ohio. Jericho said Santana and Ortiz brought along five street thugs from The Bronx, so it was actually 10-on-1.

Moxley took his jacket off and laid out one of the thugs. Security and referees ran down to break things up. They did a pull-apart between Moxley and Inner Circle, before Moxley retreated through the crowd.

A fun little segment.

**********

Nyla Rose and Big Swole was announced for later, as well as the previously announced lineup for the evening.

**********

Jim Ross threw to a video package from MJF’s camp. MJF and Wardlow entered a slaughterhouse, where Bunny, Butcher and Blade were hanging out, tossing meat around.

MJF handed Bunny an envekope, presumably full of cash, with Young Bucks printed on it. The announcers put over that Butcher, Blade and Bunny are hired mercenaries of MJF, and he wants revenge on the Bucks for throwing him in the swimming pool last week.

The Bucks vs. Butcher and Blade is up next.

**********

MJF joined the commentary desk for this matchup and did a fine job.

YOUNG BUCKS DEFEATED THE BUTCHER & THE BLADE

The story of the match was the speed of the Bucks versus the power of Butcher and Blade. The Bucks hit some kicks early. They tried a stereo kip-up, but got hit with lariats. Nick got tripped on the apron by Bunny, and Butcher and Blade worked over Nick for the heat.

Butcher and Blade traded quick tags during an ad break, isolating Nick in their corner. After the commercials, Butcher hit a doctor bomb for a near fall, as Matt saved for Nick.

Matt got a tag and ran wild. He hit a standing sliced bread on Blade. He hit a dropkick through the ropes to Butcher. He used a top rope elbow on Blade for a two count.

Nick got a tag and hit a senton for a two count as Butcher saved. Bucks hit double superkicks on Butcher. The Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver on Blade for the pin. A fine, quick TV match, but nothing special.

Butcher and Blade attacked Matt and Nick after the match. Kenny Omega ran in to make the save and hit a V-Trigger on Blade. Hangman Page walked to the ring with a beer in hand. He asked Matt to hold his beer, hit a Buckshot Lariat on Butcher, then chugged the beer.

Omega and the Bucks celebrated in the ring, while Page walked to the back.

**********

NYLA ROSE DEFEATED BIG SWOLE

The bulk of this took place during a commercial break without the picture-in-picture gimmick. That’s probably best. I’ve seen Rose in good matches and Swole has a ton of potential, but this was slow and clunky.

Rose beat on Swole and posted her right arm before the break. After the break, Swole made a comeback with a guillotine choke, then hit a springboard cutter for a two count.

Swole tried a sunset flip, but Rose blocked. Swole hit a flatliner. Rose hit a spear and a sit-out powerbomb for the pin.

**********

CODY (W/ARN ANDERSON) DEFEATED KIP SABIAN (W/PENELOPE FORD)

Sabian hit a shotgun dropkick at the opening bell, then a gutbuster. Cody came back with right hands. Cody hit a dropkick. Sabian rolled outside and started jawing with Anderson.

They brawled on the outside. Ford sold as though Cody knocked her out with a back elbow as he went for a right hand to Sabian. Cody picked up Ford, and Sabian hit a running kick from the apron. Ford popped up, and Sabian went to work on Cody.

During a commercial, Sabian sold as though his knee went out as Cody started to make a comeback. The ringside doctor examined him. Sabian was about to connect on a springboard DDT when the picture-in-picture cut away, so your guess is as good as mine as to what happened.

After the break, Cody hit a lariat, punches in the corner, and a powerslam. Cody took off his weight belt, but Ford grabbed it away from him. Cody hit Sabian with a Disaster Kick. Ford threw one of her shoes in the ring, causing a brief distraction. Cody made a cover, Sabian kicked out.

Anderson climbed into the ring to protest. He threw Ford’s shoe into the crowd. Anderosn bumped the referee, who ejected him.

Ford hit a flying headscissors off the steps to Cody. Sabian followed with a tope con giro. Sabian and Ford tried to kiss near the guardrail, but Joey Janela jumped out of a seat and stuck his face between them. Cody used the distraction to hit a tope suicida.

Cody teased a slingshot back into the ring, but Sabian cut him off and hit a neckbreaker for a near fall. Sabian tried a superplex, but Cody blocked. Sabian hit a springboard bulldog.

Sabian tried for Deathly Hallows. Cody blocked, hit a Cody Cutter, then hit Cross Rhodes three times. Cody covered for the 1-2-3.

There was an awful lot of gaga here for a twelve minute TV match, but that’s the best way to utilize Ford, so you have to expect Sabian matches to go like this.

**********

They replayed the Britt Baker and Tony Sciavone segment from last week. Tony then interviewed Baker on the stage. He addressed her as Britt. She corrected him, and said it was Dr. Baker.

Baker said she was the star of the show last week, and Tony held the microphone. She called Tony “Mr. Starbucks,”and said judging from the stench of his gums, he has gum disease. She told him to pick up a toothbrush.

Baker heeled on JR for interrupting her segment last week, collecting a huge paycheck, not getting names right, and for only talking about her being a dentist during her matches. Taking jabs at Ross for his commentary in 2020 is not a way to get heel heat in my eyes.

She took a shot at Riho for not being there.

She then told the people of Cleveland that they finally have a Baker that they can believe in. (The quarterback of the Cleveland Browns is Baker Mayfield, who had a disappointing season.)

**********

JR threw to Lexie, the newest of the 914 backstage interviewers employed by AEW. She interviewed the Bucks and Omega. Matt and Nick put over their big win.

Page stumbled in with a beer and showed off his new nameplate for his tag belt. He gave the Bucks their own nameplates, rubbing in that he and Omega are tag champs and the Bucks aren’t.

Omega said that the Bucks will be champs soon enough, but next week, he got them all a match together. It will be Page, Omega and the Bucks against Butcher, Blade and a team of their choosing.

**********

SCU entered wearing Kobe Bryant jerseys.

SCORPIO SKY & FRANKIE KAZARIAN DEFEATED JACK EVANS & ANGELICO

Kazarian and Sky grounded Angelico, working him over with suplexes and chinlocks. Sky hit s double stomp to the back of Evans. Kazarian hit a release German on Evans.

Evans and Angelico cut off Sky. Evans hit a kick for a two count. Angelico hit a PK for a two count. TH2 continued working over Sky through a commercial break.

Sky and Evans traded strikes. Sky hit a suplex, then made a lukewarm tag to Kazarian. Kazarian hit a dropkick on Angelico, a hip toss on Evans, and a cutter on Angelico. He covered, but Evans broke it up.

Evans hit a slingshot double stomp to Kazarian. Evans missed a space flying tiger drop. Kazarian and Sky hit SCU Later on Angelico, and Sky covered for the pin.

This fell apart towards the end and didn’t have a lot of heat.

**********

A Dark Order video interrupted SCU’s post-match. Uno said the Exalted One is mad at Christopher Daniels for turning them down and has ordered Dark Order to target his friends in SCU. Grayson said he doesn’t care who they go after first.

**********

A PAC video played. PAC said maybe he’ll go after Moxley if Moxley wins the title. Then he called out Omega. He said Omega is finally listening to him, and from now on they’re doing things on PAC’s timetable. He said he’s coming after Omega next week.

**********

Jon Moxley vs. Ortiz, Yuka Sakazaki vs. Britt Baker, Young Bucks and Omega and Page vs. Butcher, Blade and the Lucha Bros. were announced for next week, as was Cody receiving ten lashes from MJF.

CHRIS JERICHO, SANTANA & ORTIZ DEFEATED DARBY ALLIN, MARQ QUEN & ISIAH KASSIDY

Allin and Jericho began. Allin hit a springboard armdrag, so Jericho begged off. Ortiz and Kassidy entered. Quen tagged in for a double team spot, then got cut off. Jericho, Ortiz and Santana worked over Quen.

Kassidy got a tag and used some amateur wrestling moves and a crucifix on Ortiz for a near fall. Jericho tagged in and hit a missile dropkick. Kassidy flew to the floor, where Santana hit a suplex.

During a commercial break, Inner Circle passed Kassidy around in vertical suplex position, before Jericho completed the move. Santana and Ortiz hit an assisted senton. Jericho hit a Lionsault. Ortiz hit a pencil splash for a near fall.

Kassidy finally managed a hot tag to Allin. Allin hit a dive to Jericho, then hit a destroyer on Santana.

The match broke down. Kassidy hit a crucifix bomb on Ortiz. Quen hit a pop-up kick to Jericho. Allin hit Jericho with his own quebrada for a near fall, then hit a Coffin Drop off the post to Jake Hager on the floor.

Kassidy got a tag and hit a senton atomico on Jericho for a two count. Jericho reversed an Irish whip, hit the Judas Effect out of nowhere on Kassidy, then pinned him.

A fun main event, but it could have used a couple of more minutes to build.

**********

The Inner Circle attacked Private Party and Allin after the match. They tossed Private Party out of the ring, then went after Allin with his own skateboard, including ramming him throat-first into the board.

Moxley ran down for the save with a baseball bat. Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz all ate bat shots, but Jericho escaped. Moxley stood on the ropes, pointing the bat at the retreating Inner Circle as the show closed.

**********

This was another thumbs up show. The wrestling didn’t blow me away for the second week in a row, but the angles were mostly excellent.

AEW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: KENNY OMEGA & HANGMAN PAGE DEFEATED SCORPIO SKY & FRANKIE KAZARIAN TO WIN THE TITLES

Kazarian and Page began. Kazarian grounded Page with a side headlock. Omega and Sky tagged in. Omega worked on Sky’s left arm. They did a tackle, drop-down, leapfrog, tackle sequence. Very basic offense from everyone in the early part of the match.

Page hit a fall-away slam on Sky. Kazarian blind-tagged himself in and hit Page with a leg lariat and a legdrop for a near fall. Kazarian dumped Page right on his head on a suplex. Omega broke up the ensuing pin attempt.

Kazarian hit Page with an unprettier. Both hit a simultaneous clothesline, into a double down. Omega and Sky tagged in. Omega hit Kazarian with a snap dragon. Omega hit Sky with you can’t escape, aided by a standing shooting star from Page. Page hit Kazarian with a crossbody off the post and they flew over the barrier into the crowd.

Omega hit Sky with a buckle bomb. Sky ducked one V-Trigger, but Omega hit a second. Sky avoided the One-Winged Angel and hit a top rope frankensteiner. Page accidentally hit Omega with a Buckshot Lariat. Sky hit Omega with a TKO for a near fall.

Page hit a tope suicida on the ramp during a commercial break. Sky and Kazarian continued working Omega over during the commercials. Omega hit another V-Trigger on Sky into a double down.

Back from break, Page and Kazarian tagged in. Page hit a fall-away slam off the second rope. Page hit Sky with a German. Omega hit a tiger driver on Kazarian for a two count.

Sky and Kazarian hit SCU Later on Omega. Page broke up the pin, shoving Sky into Kazarian. Page hit a discus lariat and a powerbomb on Kazarian. He then hit a Buckshot Lariat to Sky on the ramp. Page then jumped back inside and hit Kazarian with a Buckshot for the pin.

This started off very methodically but turned into a good match by the end.

The Bucks came out to celebrate with Omega after the match. Rather than celebrate with The Elite, Page drank and crowd surfed.

BRITT BAKER DEFEATED PRISCILLA KELLY

Baker used three quick pinning combinations for near falls right off the bat. Kelly grabbed a chinlock and hit some strikes to the back during a break. Kelly remained in control through the ad break.

Kelly hit a dropkick as the show returned from commercials. They did a series of misdirection spots that were a good idea, but were executed practically in slow motion. Baker hit a slingblade.

They traded near falls, then Baker applied Lockjaw. She used the ropes to push off and keep the hold applied in the center of the ring, and Kelly tapped out.

I find that with most of Baker’s matches, there are a lot of good ideas and they’re laid out very well, the execution is just a little slow. She’ll improve and be very good in a matter of time.

**********

After the match, Tony Schiavone interviewed Baker. He questioned her use of the ropes. Baker heeled on Tony. She mocked him for taking a job at Starbucks at one point before coming to AEW.

Baker said she’s a role model and the hottest girl on this boat. She said she’s smart, educated, brilliant, and a dentist. She was still heeling on Tony as the show went to break.

**********

They showed a replay of Jungle Boy going to a ten minute draw with Jericho last month.

Jericho entered and the crowd sang along with Judas, which was incredible.

CHRIS JERICHO, SANTANA & ORTIZ DEFEATED JURASSIC EXPRESS

This was all Jurassic Express at the outset. They first cut off Ortiz with tandem offense, then Santana. Ortiz made a comeback on Jungle Boy, cutting him off with a leg sweep off the second rope. Jericho got a tag and hit Jungle Boy with two slams during a break.

Inner Circle continued working over Jungle Boy for several minutes. He got a brief hope spot in hitting a crossbody off the second rope on Jericho for a near fall.

Jungle Boy finally managed a tag to Luchasaurus, who hit a tail whip on Santana, a shining lizard on Ortiz, then a double chokeslam. Luchasaurus hit a standing moonsault on Jericho for a near fall.

Jake Hager interfered. Luchasaurus tagged Stunt, then brawled with Hager to the back. Stunt hit a 450 on Jericho for a two count. Stunt got two more quick near falls off cradles. Jericho then hit the Judas Effect and pinned Stunt. Jericho popped open some bubbly after the match.

This was a fine little six-man.

**********

They recapped the MJF and Cody feud with a video package.

MJF DEFEATED JOEY JANELA

MJF offered a handshake. Janela accepted, then MJF spit in his face. MJF used some other classic heel tactics. He bailed outside to stall, then raked Janela’s eyes. MJF worked Janela over with some very basic offense through a commercial break.

After the break, Janela was in control. He hit a superplex for a two count. Janela was distracted as Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford came to the stage and started making out. Janela missed a top rope elbow. MJF hit him with the Double Cross for the pin.

MJF cut a promo on Cody after the match. He called Cody a poet but reminded him that if he’s writing a book, MJF is the last chapter.

Cody entered. MJF reminded him that he can’t touch him or else their match is off. He mocked Cody’s lisp. He offered Cody the mic, then dropped it on the mat. He kicked the mic away from Cody, trying to bait him into a fight.

Cody said, I can’t touch you, but Matt and Nick can. The Young Bucks entered and hit a double superkick on MJF, then threw him into a swimming pool.

The heel work from MJF was great, but the wrestling here was not. Still the segment was a massive win, because swimming pool bumps are always incredible.

**********

Schiavone interviewed Page and Omega. Omega said he was thrilled to be tag champs with one of his best friends. Page said he had vowed to kick SCU’s asses and he did. The Bucks celebrated with Omega. Page said he was surprised that he won the tag titles before the Bucks did, then walked off.

**********

Young Bucks vs. Butcher and Blade, Cody vs. Kip Sabian, and a promo from the winner of tonight’s main event were advertised for next week’s show. The main event is next.

Jericho joined the commentary desk for the main event.

NO. 1 CONTENDER’S MATCH: JON MOXLEY DEFEATED PAC

They began with chain wrestling. Moxley hit a release German. PAC began hitting strikes to Moxley’s bandaged eye. They rolled outside where PAC continued working on the eye.

Moxley made a comeback during a commercial break and they brawled up, down and all over the ship. They made it back to the ring as they returned from the break.

PAC hit a missile dropkick. Moxley no-sold it and hit a lariat. They traded strikes. Moxley hit an x-plex for a near fall.

PAC hit a jawbreaker. They fought on the top rope and Moxley got the best of it. He shoved PAC off and hit an elbow. Moxley sold the elbow on landing, the announcers reminded us that was his staph elbow.

PAC used a Brutalizer. Moxley rolled him over into a pinfall attempt. PAC kicked out and hit some Kawada kicks.

PAC went for Black Arrow. Moxley got his knees up and used a cradle for a near fall. PAC hit a release German. PAC tried another Black Arrow, but missed this one entirely.

PAC hit a superkick. He tried another, but Moxley blocked and hit a double-arm DDT for a two count. PAC rolled outside. Moxley went out after him and threw him back inside. PAC hit a superplex.

PAC again applied a Brutalizer. They did a long tease, but Moxley reached the bottom rope for a break. PAC ripped Moxley’s bandage off. Moxley used a cradle for a near fall.

The finish saw Moxley hit a double-arm DDT out of nowhere. He followed up with the Paradigm Shift and got the pin. Jericho stared down Moxley from the ramp as the show closed.

**********

The wrestling on the show was not nearly as spectacular as it normally is given the setup and limitations of doing a wrestling show on a cruise ship. Still the pacing of the show was worlds better than it has been of late, and the few angles they shot were very well done. This was a thumbs up show.

AEW Dynamite live results: Bash at the Beach

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the Watsco Center in Miami, Florida, on the campus of the University of Miami. The show is being branded as the Bash at the Beach edition of Dynamite.

Jon Moxley is scheduled to take on Sammy Guevara of the Inner Circle. Moxley turned down Chris Jericho’s offer to join the stable on last week’s show.

Cody is again scheduled to respond to MJF’s proposed stipulations that he must agree to in order to get a match with MJF at Revolution. This was also advertised for last week’s show, but Arn Anderson, acting as Cody’s coach, stated that he and Cody would respond this week instead.

Dustin Rhodes, QT Marshall and Diamond Dallas Page will face MJF, The Butcher and The Blade in six-man tag team action. This comes on the heels of last week’s in-ring confrontation that saw DDP lay out Butcher and Blade with Diamond Cutters, before being overwhelmed by MJF and Wardlow.

Kenny Omega and Hangman Page will tag again, facing The Young Bucks, Best Friends and Santana and Ortiz in a four-way bout. The winning team will receive a tag title shot against SCU at a later date.

PAC vs. Darby Allin and a tag match with Brandi Rhodes and Mel vs. Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida round out tonight’s card.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The show opened with a graphic for Rocky Johnson. JR then mentioned Pampero Firpo, La Parka and Kendo Nagasaki as well in the intro.

4-WAY NUMBER ONE CONTENDER TAG MATCH: HANGMAN PAGE & KENNY OMEGA DEFEATED YOUNG BUCKS, BEST FRIENDS & SANTANA & ORTIZ

This was a hell of an opener. All action and tough to keep up with.

Nick hit a springboard armdrag to Trent. Taylor and Page got tags. Page hit a fall-away slam. Omega and NIck worked together as Nick hit a springboard double stomp. The Bucks hit a double back handspring and a double dropkick.

Matt hit Trent with four straight bridging suplexes. Trent hit a tornado DDT. Taylor got a tag and hit a suplex to Matt. Matt got cut off from here.

Trent and Taylor hit a Sole Food/half-and-half suplex combination. Ortiz hit a flip dive through the second. Santana hit a tope over the top.

Santana hit two amigos on Matt, picked Matt up for a stalling suplex, then handed him off to Ortiz to complete the move. Matt hit a springboard cutter, then tagged Omega. Omega hit snap dragons on Santana, Ortiz and Trent.

Omega hit you can’t escape, Page hit a standing shooting star, Omega hit a moonsault, Page hit a dive off the post to the floor. Santana hit a tope. Nick hit a slingshot facebuster. Nick and Taylor hit topes. Trent hit a superplex on Matt off the post to the floor onto the other six guys.

Back inside, Trent hit a one-legged dropkick on Omega. The ref took a bump. All eight guys jumped in the ring and teased an eight-way suplex spot. Orange Cassidy jumped in and assisted Santana and Ortiz and Best Friends in hitting a 5-on-4 suplex.

Best Friends hit Omega with Strong Zero. The Bucks broke up the pin. Everyone jumped in for a big move. The Bucks threw a superkick party. Nick teased a Meltzer Driver but hit an Asai moonsault instead.

Page blind-tagged himself in, tagging Matt. Omega hit Taylor with a V-Trigger. Omega and Page hit a combination V-Trigger/Buckshot Lariat. Page pinned Taylor.

Matt was upset with Page after the match, but they shook hands. Omega and The Bucks talked it out while Page left, so there’s still dissension there.

**********

Cody came out for a promo. He asked for MJF’s stipulations to be listed on the screen. He addressed each one. He did a lot of insider lingo in this promo. He said he’s been in factions and had his pop stolen. He said MJF had pageant parents who paraded him on the Rosie O’Donnell show at 7 years old.

He said old school guys like MJF and call him a true old school heel, and they say less is more, but really, MJF does less because he’s not able to do more. He said maybe MJF should be carrying Wardlow’s bags instead of the other way around.

Cody accepted all of MJF’s stips and promised to give him “his own goddamn scar.”

Cody’s delivery is second to none, but I didn’t like some of the insider stuff. Good promo overall.

**********

Joey Janela cut a pre-taped promo. He said it’s a new year, but the first time everyone saw his face on TV this year, he was getting punched in the balls by his ex-girlfriend. He said Penelope Ford can only make a name for herself or get herself over by mentioning him.

He said Penelope has a new side piece in Kip Sabian. He dared Sabian to cross the line in front of him and see what happens to him. He said last year, he had a bad record. But he’ll right the ship against Rey Fenix next week.

He said he’s the backbone of AEW and everyone will see why everyone calls Joey Janela a bad, bad boy.

**********

KRIS STATLANDER & HIKARU SHIDA DEFEATED BRANDI RHODES & MEL

Dr. Luther jumped in Shida’s path as she entered. Mel and Brandi doubled up on Statlander in the ring. Shida used a kendo stick to fend off Luther, then cleared the ring with it.

The match began. Mel and Shida started off slowly. Mel hit some strikes. Shida hit a rana, sending Mel outside. Statlander hit a moonsault to the floor. Shida did her jumping knee off the chair spot on the floor.

Mel just ended up back on offense back in the ring. Mel and Brandi used some classic heel tag team spots, taking the ref, phantom tags and the like, working over Shida. The crowd was quiet.

Shida’s selling got the crowd into the match and they started chanting for her. They were building to a hot tag to Statlander.

After a break, Shida hit a running knee. Statlander and Brandi tagged in. Statlander hit a high kick for a near fall as Mel saved for Brandi. Shida hit a missile dropkick to Mel. Brandi hit Statlander with a spear for a near fall. Crowd was still dead.

Mel hit a black hole slam for a near fall. Shida hit Mel with a superplex. Statlander hit a running knee for a one count. Statlander hit a standing moonsault for a near fall. Statlander then hit a package tombstone for the pin.

Brandi berated Mel on the floor after the loss.

The match was laid out well and the crowd got behind Shida at times, but I can’t call this a positive segment.

**********

We got a Dark Order video package. The unseen leader of the Dark Order mentioned Michael Nakazawa and Hangman Page as potential recruits.

**********

Sammy Guevara entered. He did his cue cards bit during a commercial break. The cards said Moxley gave Sammy an ulcer and needs to pay.

JON MOXLEY DEFEATED SAMMY GUEVARA

Guevara hit a shotgun dropkick right at the opening bell. Moxley cut him off with a lariat. Guevara hit a springboard cutter and a tope. Guevara teased a top rope elbow but landed on his feet and taunted Moxley instead.

Moxley hit another lariat, a Regal knee, then used an x-plex for a two count. Moxley teased a Paradigm Shift on the apron, but Guevara blocked, then came off the top with double knees, sending Moxley to the floor.

Guevara sent Moxley into the barricade. Back inside, Guevara used a drop toe hold and choked Moxley with the ropes. They went back and forth during the break. Guevara hit a samoan drop for a near fall. They brawled on the floor. Guevara teased a top rope splash but got cut off. Moxley hit a superplex.

Back from commercials, Guevara landed on his feet out of a German and hit a standing shooting star for a two count. They traded near falls.

Moxley teased a top rope Paradigm Shift. Guevara fought it off, then hit a top rope Spanish fly for a near fall. Guevara used a knee strike for another two count.

The finish saw Guevara go to the top. He went for a moonsault. Moxley caught him coming off the top, then locked on a rear naked choke with a body scissors. Guevara tapped out immediately. Good match.

**********

Jericho’s music hit. The lights went out. When the lights came back on, Jericho, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz had Moxley trapped in the ring.

Santana and Ortiz used their loaded sock on Moxley. Guevara slapped him in the face. Hager hit a running low blow.

Jericho then removed one of the metal spikes from his jacket, and spiked Moxley’s right eye.

This was a well-done angle.

**********

Jericho cut a promo after the break. He promised to do the same thing to Jungle Boy next week that he did to Moxley tonight. He made several jokes about Moxley not being able to keep an eye on him. Great heel stuff.

**********

MJF wore an “I banged Dallas’s Daughter” shirt to the ring. JR called MJF “Matthew.”

MJF, BUTCHER & BLADE DEFEATED DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE, DUSTIN RHODES & QT MARSHALL

MJF teased starting off with DDP, but begged off. MJF and QT started instead. QT hit a springboard crossbody. Wardlow passed MJF his ring and he used it to punch QT. Dusting got a tag and got a bit of shine before being cut off. They worked over Dustin through a commercial break.

After the break, DDP got the hot tag. He hit lariats on all three heels. He hit a Diamond Cutter on Butcher. He went for one on MJF, but MJF hit a low blow. DDP tagged out. Dustin hit a destroyer on MJF. DDP jumped in and hit MJF with a Diamond Cutter. Dustin covered for a two count as Blade saved.

Dustin and QT hit dives. Page hit a dive off the post to the floor onto the other five guys. QT climbed back inside. MJF used a schoolboy on QT for the pin.

This was textbook stuff. DDP wrestled without a shirt and didn’t look cosmetically all that different than he did 20 years ago.

**********

Jenn Decker was with SCU backstage. Hangman interrupted the promo with a drink in his hand. He started talking trash to SCU. Omega intervened. I’m not sure what the point of this was. The main event is next.

**********

PAC DEFEATED DARBY ALLIN

They did a tackle/dropdown/leapfrog sequence with a couple of new wrinkles. PAC kipped up. Allin hit a dropkick. Allin hit a shotgun dropkick and teased an apron dive. PAC side-stepped, so Allin jumped back inside and hit a tope suicida instead.

Allin teased a hurricanrana off the apron. PAC caught him and slammed him into the steps instead. PAC hit a powerbomb on the steps during a commercial. PAC continued beating Allin around ringside after the break.

PAC hit a missile dropkick for a near fall. PAC teased something off the top rope, but Allin turned it into a crucifix bomb. PAC rolled outside. Allin hit a Coffin Drop to the floor. Allin hit a backpack stunner and a code red for a near fall.

Allin teased a baseball slide. PAC pulled him into the ring skirt, then hit a high kick. PAC hit a lariat, Allin took a flip bump. PAC covered for a two count.

Allin used a magistral cradle for a two count. They traded cradles. Allin tried a springboard Coffin Drop. PAC caught him, then hit a high-angle powerbomb for a two count. Allin was taking an absolute beating in this match.

PAC climbed to the top rope. Allin jumped up and tried a superplex. PAC fought him off, then hit Black Arrow for the pin. A good main event.

**********

Tony Schiavone interviewed PAC after the match. Tony announced next week’s match between PAC and Mox as a number one contender’s match. PAC said no, Mox is out, I win by forfeit, and I’m coming for Jericho.

Tony threw it backstage. Moxley was being loaded into an ambulance. Moxley broke out of the ambulance and came to the stage. He said he doesn’t care if he’s blind, he’s going to win the match and kick PAC’s ass next week.

I found the angle to be a little bit corny, with Mox kicking his way out of the ambulance, but it was very 1990s pro wrestling. If that’s your thing, this worked for you.

**********

There was a lot of good wrestling on the show this week. The angles were still not great, but much better than they have been in recent weeks. Things are trending upward.
