Owen Hart Foundation tournament quarterfinal set for next AEW Collision

A match in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament is set for the next AEW Collision.

Next week’s show in Buffalo, New York will see Deonna Purrazo face Hikaru Shida in a quarterfinal match. This would mark Shida’s return to AEW/ROH since losing to Athena at Supercard of Honor during WrestleMania 40 weekend. Purrazzo, however, is coming off a big win after defeating Thunder Rosa in a no disqualification match earlier this month.

So far in the tournament, Willow Nightingale has defeated Serena Deeb and Kris Stantlander defeated Nyla Rose to advance to the semifinals, where they will meet.

Coming off the loss, Deeb has issued a challenge for next week’s Collision. In a promo, she talked about suffering three big losses as of late and promised to start picking up wins in order to prove to everyone, including herself, just who exactly she is.

Here is the card for next week’s Collision:

  • Owen Hart Foundation tournament opening round: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Hikaru Shida
  • Serena Deeb has issued a challenge

Wednesday Update

WWE

  • Ahead of challenging Roxanne Perez at Battleground, TNA star Jordynne Grace made her NXT debut by defeating Stevie Turner last night. Grace tweeted after the match: “In the midst of the chaos, give @StevieTurnerWWE her flowers. Couldn’t have made history tonight without her. I’ve been the underdog many, many times, and I know how hard it can be to bet on yourself. Keep going. See you down the road!”
  • Grace had “NXTNA” written on her ring gear for the match against Turner.
  • Grace gifted Shawn Michaels a “Chef Michaels” hat after the meme he tweeted last week referencing all that he’s cooking up on NXT.
  • Brooks Jensen teased showing up in TNA after the off-air angle where he was kicked out of NXT. Jensen said that, with him being able to go anywhere he wants, maybe he’ll “make an Impact.”
  • Randy Orton told Sportskeeda WrestleBinge that he doesn’t expect anyone will break his record as the youngest WWE World Champion anytime soon, if ever:
    • As far as someone becoming the youngest World Heavyweight Champion and taking that from me, I don’t see that happening, only because I think it was a very special circumstance when I became the youngest World Champion. I was 24 years old, and I don’t know if there’s anyone young enough to make it to that yet, so I think I’m gonna hold that for quite some time, if not from here on out.
  • NXT’s Je’Von Evans responded by taking Orton’s comments as a challenge: “All Respect To You @RandyOrton But I Love A Challenge OG”
  • WWE filed a new trademark for “WCW” on June 4. The filing information, which can be read below, is the same as when WWE filed for the term in 2020. It’s listed as being for the following merchandise:

AEW/Other Wrestling

  • Vice TV uploaded the complete first episode of its “Who Killed WCW?” docuseries that premiered last night. It’s a four-part series that will continue over the next three weeks.
  • Executive producer Evan Husney tweeted that it was an “incredible experience” working with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Brian Gewirtz, and Seven Bucks Productions on the docuseries. “Such an honor collaborating with a team so passionate about this very special chapter in wrestling history,” Husney added. “Here’s to many more!”
  • Gewirtz was a guest on the Cheap Heat podcast.
  • Will Ospreay won’t be appearing on AEW Dynamite tonight. He noted that he’s at home tonight and then will be back to work for AEW.
  • An appearance by MJF will be the opening segment of Dynamite.
  • In an interview with Dexerto, Deonna Purrazzo commented on the possibility of AEW adding Women’s Tag Team titles:
    • I think Women’s Tag Titles are tricky. I think women easily fall into this category of ‘we’ll just put Deonna and so and so together, you guys be a team.’ If AEW was to introduce Women’s Tag Titles, it would be an amazing opportunity for us women, but I’d want to see a larger story being told.
    • Let’s give women the opportunity to tell stories, make the audience understand why these two people work together.
  • Purrazzo said, before Kris Statlander’s heel turn, Willow Nightingale & Statlander were an example of a team with good chemistry:
    • We understood their chemistry. We understand why they were friends, the reason they had each other’s back. If we’re going to have Tag Titles, we need multiple tag teams that have that same chemistry.
    • So it’s not something I’m shooting down completely, I just think that type of division needs a lot of investment, a lot of storytelling to get there.
  • Josh Martinez of Z100 in New York City interviewed Swerve Strickland & Prince Nana on Superstar Crossover.
  • Andreza Giant Panda & Tomoya vs. Toru Yano & Tomoaki Honma will be the kickoff match for All Together Sapporo on Saturday, June 15.
  • The Hollywood Reporter covered Sukeban’s Los Angeles debut:
    • With Lakers season over, what could possibly draw crowds to downtown Los Angeles? The answer might just be women’s Japanese wrestling, at least judging by the 2,000 people who flocked to the Trinity Auditorium on May 30 to watch the L.A. debut of Sukeban, a new all-female league that launched last year in New York. Among the attendees: Diplo, Beef star Steven Yeun, Past Lives‘ Greta Lee and Vice Media co-founder Shane Smith. The wrestlers wore elaborate costumes and had their own anime avatars, while matches were a blend of acrobatics and arch theatrics. In one bout, blue-haired Lady Antoinette used a metal trash can to beat down her opponent, Atomic Banshee, who wore white face paint and black fishnet tights. ‘The audience has been welcoming,’ notes retired wrestler Bull Nakano, now commissioner of Sukeban (which means ‘delinquent girls’ in Japanese). ‘But I can’t tell how big this is going to be.’

First match announced for AEW Double or Nothing Buy-In

AEW has announced the first match for Sunday’s Double or Nothing Buy-In pre-show.

As revealed during Friday’s Rampage, Deonna Purrazzo will face Thunder Rosa on Sunday at the Double or Nothing Buy-In. Purrazzo challenged Rosa to the bout in a backstage promo on the show, and the match was made official later in Friday’s program.

The Buy-In bout is a rematch from the April 27 Rampage where Rosa scored a victory over Purrazzo. The two have continued to feud on television in recent weeks with a series of angles, and defeating a common opponent in Robyn Renegade.

10 matches are set for Sunday’s main card, with more Buy-In matches expected to be announced between now and show time.

The Buy-In begins at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, May 26 on AEW’s YouTube and social media channels, while the main card begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view.

The announced AEW Double or Nothing lineup so far:

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Christian Cage

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Lee Moriarty part of four-match AEW Rampage lineup

The full lineup for the special Saturday edition of AEW Rampage has been released, headlined by Kyle O’Reilly vs. Lee Moriarty.

O’Reilly is coming off a loss to TNT Champion Adam Copeland on last week’s Collision while Moriarty was defeated by Will Ospreay the week prior. He hasn’t won a singles match in AEW since an August 2023 dark match before the 200th episode of Dynamite.

After falling in defeat to AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland on Dynamite, Brian Cage will look to rebound as he takes on former AEW Tag Team and Trios Champion Anthony Bowens.

Former AEW Women’s title challenger Deonna Purrazzo will take on Robyn Renegade while Rush will look to go 2-0 in his return to AEW as he goes heads-up with Cody Chhun.

The show, taped Thursday in Portland, Oregon, will air after Collision Saturday at 10 PM Eastern on TNT.

Here’s the full lineup:

  • Kyle O’Reilly vs. Lee Moriarty
  • Brian Cage vs. Anthony Bowens
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. Cody Chhun
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. Robyn Renegade

AEW Rampage live results: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Lady Frost

Rampage once again will follow this week’s AEW Collision.

With NHL and NBA playoffs moving the show around, Rampage will follow Collision on Saturday. Hour three of AEW’s content block will feature a match between Lady Frost and Deonna Purrazzo. Two weeks ago on Rampage, Thunder Rosa defeated Purrazzo in a match. Purrazzo, unhappy with the result, jumped Rosa after the match and sent her into a steel barricade.

Lady Frost has mostly wrestled on ROH television of late, last losing a match teaming with Abadon and Leyla Hirsch last month. Her last AEW television match was earlier in April, losing to Rosa. Aside from ROH and AEW, she’s also made several appearances for CMLL.

Last week’s AEW Rampage was headlined by a Manitoba Massacre match, where Willow Nightingale retained the TBS Championship by defeating Skye Blue.

Rampage will begin at 10 pm ET on TBS.

Live from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Tony Schivone and Nigel McGuinness were on commentary as the main event from Collision continued.

Adam Copeland defeated Kyle O’Reilly for the TNT Championship (3:35 or so aired during Rampage)

A low kick stopped O’Reilly to the point where the ref had to check on O’Reilly to see if he could continue. O’Reilly gave the okay, and Copeland set up for the spear, which O’Reilly countered with a guillotine choke. Copeland escaped that with an Implant DDT, and hit the spear to get the pinfall.

The crowd was hugely behind O’Reilly at the end of that match. The show then faded to black and then Rampage opened with Copeland helping O’Reilly up. O’Reilly and Copeland had a weird issue with each other when Copeland held up O’Reilly’s hand, but wouldn’t let it go.

– Lexi Nair interviewed Claudio Castagnoli on his way out of the arena. Castagnoli has issues with Bryan Danielson teaming with Eddie Kingston at Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing. He wants Danielson to retire healthy, and doesn’t trust Eddie Kingston to let that happen.

Matt Menard joined the commentary team for the rest of Rampage.

Trent Beretta defeated Dalton Castle (9:42)

Beretta wore an old “Best Friends” t-shirt with everything covered but the word “Best” and his face. And Castle had  a new array of Boys with him tonight.

Castle hung Beretta up on the turnbuckle, then sent him to the floor with a running knee. They fought on the apron, and Beretta drove Castle into the apron with a hanging DDT.

After a split-screen break, Dalton countered a avalanche hurricanrana with a sunset flip for a near fall, and both guys hit clotheslines. Castle came back with a pair of suplexes.  The crowd was crazy behind Castle, especially for a guy who has only been on ROH for most of the last year.  Castle went for his finisher, but Beretta countered with a piledriver for a near fall. The crowd told Trent he sucked, and Castle countered a tornado DDT attempt with another suplex. The fight went to the floor, and Beretta distracted referee Aubrey Edwards with a chair. This allowed him to gouge Castle’s eyes. Back in the ring, Beretta hit a running knee and locked in the gogoplata, and the ref stopped the match.

– In the back, Deonna Purrazzo talked trash about Thunder Rosa.

– Rush will destroy you, spit on you, and walk all over you. And kick all of AEW in the face. Rush makes his return to Rampage next Saturday on Collision.

“The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith defeated JD Drake (2:43)

I thought WB didn’t want Ring of Honor?

JD Drake has this neat spot on the floor where he sends his opponent into the ropes and when they come back on the rebound, he hits them with a forearm. In the ring, Drake hit a running kick for a near fall. Drake chopped away at Keith, but Keith came back with a shoulderblock and a bodyslam. Keith finished Drake off with a flipping stunner out of the corner to get the pinfall.

I wonder why people are tuning out of Rampage in droves?

– Adam Copeland cut a promo from behind a chain link fence wrapped in barbed wire. He challenged Malakai Black for Double or Nothing in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match.

Deonna Purrazzo defeated Lady Frost (8:11)

Most of the match took place during the split-screen break.

Most of the match took place during the split-screen break. After the break, Purrazzo and Frost exchanged boots. Frost cartwheeled into a cannonball in the corner for a near fall. Purrazzo came back with a Russian leg sweep into an armbar, but Frost escaped by getting to the ropes. Frost came off the top with tornio for a near fall. Frost went to the top again, but Purrazzo tripped her up. Frost hung upside down in the corner, and Purrazzo hit her with a spear to get the pinfall. Frost looked very good and the crowd was into it, but the outcome was never in doubt.

After the match, Thunder Rosa chased off Purrazzo with a steel chair. Rosa dove on a security guard to try and get to Purrazzo, but the security guard managed to hold her off.

– The Acclaimed dropped a new music video.

– A vignette for Scorpio Sky’s zillionth comeback. It sounds like he’s coming back as a babyface.

PAC defeated  Johnny TV (w/ Taya Valkyrie) (9:44)

Johnny wiped his butt with a Vancouver Canucks jersey so the crowd knew who to boo. PAC attacked and went to work on TV, hitting a shotgun dropkick out of the corner. PAC hit an Asai moonsault. Johnny raked PAC’s  eyes and took control. He hit a leg lariat and a standing shooting star press for a near fall.

Johnny worked PAC over with a cravat for most of the commercial break. TV and Taya made out on the floor. This gave PAC the opening to come back with a series of running forearms. Valkyrie tried to trip up PAC. PAC and Valkyrie argued on the floor, which allowed Johnny to hit PAC with a plancha. Back in the ring, Johnny missed a split legged moonsault, and PAC hit a german suplex. Johnny missed the Starship Pain, and PAC went up for the Black Arrow. But Taya distracted PAC again. PAC dodged a charge from Johnny, who crashed into Taya. PAC locked Johnny in the Brutalizer, and Johnny TV tapped out.

After the match, The Bullet Club taunted PAC from the video wall and warned him to stay out of their business.

This show felt like a lot of filler.

AEW Rampage live results: Trent Beretta vs. Chuck Taylor parking lot fight

After dissolving their longtime friendship on Dynamite, former Best Friends Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor will do battle in a parking lot fight on tonight’s live AEW Rampage from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

The two were part of two parking lot fights as teammates in AEW. In September 2020, Taylor & Beretta defeated Santana & Ortiz in a match our Dave Meltzer rated five stars. In August 2023, they lost in a parking lot fight to Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli.

This match will be Taylor’s first since October 2023 after being sidelined due to injury.

After a partnership turned sour over the past few weeks, former AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa and Deonna Purrazzo will do battle tonight. This will be a rematch of their July 2021 match at TNA Slammiversary for Purrazzo’s then-Knockouts title.

The show begins at approximately 10:30 PM Eastern after the conclusion of Collision.

Live from Jacksonville, Florida.

Nigel McGuinness, Tony Schiavone, and Matt Menard were on commentary.

Trent Beretta defeated Chuck Taylor in a Parking Lot Brawl (10:10)

Beretta and Taylor were bumping into cars and the concrete a minute into the match. McGuinness suggested someone should get into one of the cars and just run over their opponent. Taylor was bleeding very early on when he powerbombed Beretta onto the hood of a car. Beretta and Taylor fought onto the roof of a pickup, and Taylor went through some drywall that had been set up in the truck bed. Beretta jumped from the roof of one car onto another to drop an elbow on Taylor for a near fall.

After a split-screen break, Taylor dodged a flying flatscreen TV, then suplexed Beretta through a door. Taylor broke more drywall on Beretta’s back and hit him with a trash can. Taylor beat on Beretta with a metal dustpan and a trash can. Beretta came back by press-slamming Taylor through some lighting tubes. At some point, Beretta got busted open, too. Taylor sent Beretta through the windshield of a car with a crucifix powerbomb.

Bloodied, both guys fought their way to the roof of a car. They exchanged forearms until. Beretta hit Taylor with a lowblow Beretta dropped him with a piledriver then locked in a gogoplata on the roof of the car. Taylor could not defend himself, and the ref ended the match.

After the match, Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander came out to check on Taylor, but not before Beretta hit Taylor in his ankle with a plumber’s wrench. Cassidy chased off Beretta while Taylor was tended to. In the back, Don Callis was shown watching and nodding approvingly.

This match did nothing for me, but Beretta with Callis could be interesting.

– Kyle O’Reilly cut an endearing promo about wrestling for AEW on May 11th in his hometown of Vancouver.

Thunder Rosa defeated Deonna Purrazzo (11:05)

Rosa leveled Purrazzo with a forearm. Purrazzo came back with an armbar takedown and started working on the arm. Purrazzo tied up Rosa in the bottom rope and hit her with a sliding dropkick. It looked like Rosa slipped off the middle ropes going for a dropkick, and Purrazzo quickly covered by putting Rosa in a Boston Crab. Purrazzo dropped to the floor while the ref checked on Rosa. The fight went to the floor, where Purrazzo caught Rosa with a pump kick.

After a commercial, the fight was back in the ring where Rosa caught Purrazzo with a dropkick off the middle rope. Purrazzo went for a german suplex, but Rosa rolled through and caught her with a stomp for a near fall. Rosa came off the top, but Purrazzo caught her with an armbar. Rosa transitioned into a choke. Purrazzo used her size advanatge to break the hold.

Purrazzo went for a piledriver, but Rosa countered that with a cradle, which lead to series of near falls off of cradle attempts. Purrazzo went back to the armbar, but Rosa countered that with a cradle and got the pinfall.

After the match, Purrazzo attacked Rosa and sent her into the steel barricade. Rosa and Purrazzo battled into the crowd until security separated them.

– The Righteous wished Tony Khan a speedy recovery (since they are experts at neck health), and Roderick Strong said Will Ospreay fall to him at Double or Nothing.

Big Bill defeated Trevor Blackwell (1:37)

Bill spent the whole match talking to Chirs Jericho (through the TV cameras) while destorying the poor kid, hitting him with a black hole slam, an short-arm clothesline and a chokeslam before pinning him under one foot.

Chris Jericho was shown watching from the back, clearly impressed.

Katsuyori Shibata & Daniel Garcia defeated Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty (14:56)

Anthony Ogogo joined the commetary team for the main event.

Garcia & Shibata wrestled in matching tights. The fight started out on the floor. It settled in the ring with Taylor and Shibata. Taylor dropped Shibata with a right hand. Garcia got a tag and hit Moriarty with the twist and shout. Taylor tripped up Garica as he was running the ropes and planted him with a hanging DDT on the floor.

Back in the ring, Garcia tried to make a comeback but Taylor floored him with a forearm. Taylor dropped Garcia with a uranage, then followed up with a big splash for a near fall.

After a spliot-screen break, Taylor missed a splash off the middle ropes on Garcia. Moriarty got the tag and worked on Garcia’s arm. Tony: “He could have broken his hand!” Nigel: “I guess he’ll have to use the other hand tonight.” I’m sure Nighel meant for the hot tag… which he soon got to Shibata. Shibata worked over Taylor in a corner and dropped Moriarty with a forearm.

Shibata and Garcia hit diving dropkicks in the corner. Shibata hit a running boot on Taylor in the corner. Shibata beat on Taylor in the corner with chops and jabs, while Garcia danced to the rhythm of the beating.

Garcia and Shibata then combined to suplex Talyor. Taylor then countered a second at a double suplex attmpt by suplexing them both. Moriarty tried to work over Shibata in the croner with chops and jabs, but Shibata no sold it. Taylor interfered, and Moriarty hit a facelock suplex for a near fall.

Moriarty locked Shibata in a full nelson for a right hand from Taylor, but Shibata escaped and he and Garcia locked both their opponents in sleeperholds. Talyor tried to back Garcia into the corner to escape, but Shibata caught Taylor with a kick, and Garica backdropped suplexed Taylor. Shiabata hit the PK on Morarity and got the pinfall. Fun tag match! I want more of this Shibata/Garcia tag team.

On Dyanmite Wednesday:

  • Kenny Omega returns!
  • We’ll learn the main event of Double or Nothing
  • Mariah May will take on Serena Deeb
  • Adam Copeland will take on a member of the House of Black (who is almost definitely Buddy Matthews)
  • Chris Jericho defends the FTW title against Shibata.

This was the most fun Rampage I’ve seen in awhile.

Madison Rayne ‘okay’ following scary spot on AEW Dynamite

Madison Rayne says she is okay.

Rayne wrestled Deonna Purrazzo on AEW Dynamite last night in what was her first match since an ROH taping in August. Near the end of the bout, Rayne appeared to land directly on top of her head following a move from her opponent. The referee immediately checked on her and Rayne tapped out to an ankle lock shortly after.

Rayne posted to X on Thursday:

Hi I’m okay! Thanks so much to everyone who celebrated my Dynamite return & those who checked in on me afterwards.

To those who have never stepped into a ring but tweeted awful things at me w/ zero knowledge of what actually happened- thanks for watching. Have a great day

https://twitter.com/MogulAvi/status/1760490221496328671

The commentary team last night played up Rayne as having been a mentor to Purrazzo. After the match, Purrazzo was attacked by Toni Storm, whom she’ll challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Revolution.

AEW signed Rayne in the summer of 2022 as a coach, although at the time it was not clear if she would also wrestle for the promotion.

Toni Storm & Deonna Purrazzo matches added to AEW Dynamite

Women’s World Champion Toni Storm & her Revolution challenger Deonna Purrazzo will both be in action on the February 21 AEW Dynamite.

Deonna Purrazzo explains decision to leave TNA, sign with AEW

Deonna Purrazzo says she had done all there was to do with TNA Wrestling.

The 29-year-old debuted with the promotion formerly known as Impact Wrestling in May 2020 after having been released from WWE the month prior. She quickly became a focal point of the division, winning the Knockouts title from Jordynne Grace at Slammiverary that July.

Purrazzo was a guest on Talk is Jericho recently and detailed what led to her leaving the company.

Purrazzo said:

I knew my contract was coming up with Impact and I just kind of felt like if it was time to leave, it would be now. If this was the territories, now would be the time you leave, right?

Britt Baker actually connected me with Tony Khan and we just got to talking and I knew the first Dynamite of the new year was going to be in Jersey, that’s where I’m from so I was like that would be a dream scenario, a dream come true if we could do that and it all worked out.

Purrazzo is a three-time Knockouts Champion. The 551 combined days she’s spent with the title is second all-time behind only Gail Kim (711 days.)

She continued:

I was the champion for a very long time in Impact, I got to work with all of the women that were in our locker room and it was just like, what other stories are there to tell?

Everyone’s kind of put me over at that point, I’ve beaten everybody, they kind of figured maybe I was on my way out so I got to do the favors and put everyone else over on my way out. It’s just kind of like, what else is there to do? There’s no one new coming in that I can work with, I don’t know what else there is to tell here.

Purrazzo confronted Mariah May on the January 3, 2024 edition of AEW Dynamite. She defeated Red Velvet in her first match as a member of the roster on Saturday’s episode of Collision.

Purrazzo will be in action on AEW Dynamite tonight as well. She is scheduled to face Anna Jay on the show.

Deonna Purrazzo vs. Anna Jay set for AEW Dynamite

A new match has been added to Wednesday’s Dynamite.

AEW announced on Tuesday that Anna Jay will take on Deonna Purrazzo. Toni Storm will be on commentary during the match.

Anna Jay is coming off a loss at AEW Battle of the Belts IX, failing to defeat Julia Hart for the TBS Championship. She scored the pin in an eight-woman tag team match that took place on last week’s Dynamite.

The updated lineup for the Wednesday, January 17 Dynamite:

Deonna Purrazzo reacts to AEW debut: ‘I think I’ll live on cloud 9 forever’

Deonna Purrazzo is on cloud nine after making her AEW debut.

In her home state of New Jersey, Purrazzo debuted for AEW on Wednesday night’s episode of Dynamite. Purrazzo confronted Mariah May and revealed that she has signed an AEW contract.

Purrazzo also issued a warning to AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm.

Following her debut, Purrazzo made a post on social media calling the moment a dream come true. Purrazzo thanked Tony Khan for making it possible.

Purrazzo’s parents and her husband (Impact wrestler Steve Maclin) were in attendance at last night’s show.

“Home is where my heart is,” Purrazzo wrote. “My debut, my hometown, my husband, my parents. I haven’t stopped crying. I think I’ll live on cloud 9 forever.”

While this was her official AEW debut, Purrazzo has actually wrestled on Dynamite once before. Purrazzo lost the ROH Women’s World Championship to Mercedes Martinez on an episode of Dynamite in May 2022. Purrazzo was signed to Impact Wrestling at the time. Tony Khan bought Ring of Honor during her ROH Women’s title reign.

Purrazzo was a three-time Knockouts Champion for Impact Wrestling. She finished up with Impact last month.
