Eight-man tag team action is set for tonight’s TLC pre-show.

WWE has announced that Big E, Daniel Bryan, Chad Gable & Otis vs. Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura will be the pre-show match for tonight’s TLC pay-per-view. The one-hour pre-show begins at 6 p.m. Eastern time and will air on the WWE Network and WWE’s social platforms.

Big E and Bryan have both lost to Zayn by countout in non-title matches on SmackDown in recent weeks. On this past Friday’s SmackDown, there was a segment where Big E got back at Zayn by ruining his “first annual Sami Awards.”

After Gable & Otis lost to Cesaro & Nakamura the previous week, Otis defeated Nakamura in a singles match on this past Friday’s SmackDown.

At Survivor Series, Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeated WWE Champion Drew McIntyre after Jey Uso interfered to prove himself to his cousin. Reigns was upset with Uso when the men’s SmackDown team lost to Team Raw in a clean sweep. Uso was the last remaining member of his team.

Reigns was already upset with Uso due to losing to the returning Daniel Bryan last week on SmackDown.

The Raw women’s Survivor Series team defeated the SmackDown team when Bianca Belair and Nia Jax couldn’t beat the ten count, leaving Raw’s Lana as the sole survivor. Raw’s United States Champion Bobby Lashley defeated SmackDown’s Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn, and Raw’s The Miz won the pre-show battle royal.

SmackDown’s only other wins at Survivor Series were SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defeating Raw Women’s Champion Asuka and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defeating Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day.

Show Recap:

SmackDown opened with Jey Uso making his way to the ring. Uso noted everyone is talking about Undertaker’s farewell at the Survivor Series. He thinks everyone should be talking about Roman Reigns beating Drew McIntrye. Uso talked about McIntyre’s recent win over Randy Orton. He praised McIntrye but pointed out that Reigns defeated him.

Uso was about to introduce Reigns when Reigns’ music cut him off. Reigns and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring. Reigns slowly took the mic and told the production truck to play it. He and Uso then watched the big screen.

They recapped Team Raw beating Team SmackDown in a clean sweep at Survivor Series. After the match, Reigns yelled at Uso for losing and told him to leave the building with his brother Jimmy. They also recapped Reigns defeating McIntrye after Uso’s interference.

Reigns noted he told Uso to leave the building, but he didn’t. He didn’t ask for Uso’s help. Reigns pointed out that Uso lost at Survivor Series because his teammates didn’t fear him or respect him. That means they don’t respect Reigns and the family.

Reigns said he’s not somebody in the back begging for Thanksgiving leftovers. He asked Uso if that’s what he sees. Reigns feels like he’s some guy begging for Thanksgiving leftovers because of Uso’s failures.

Reigns and Heyman then walked off. Uso slowly walked to the back and was distraught over Reigns’ comments.

This was a good opening segment. Reigns and Uso were great in their roles.

Otis vs. King Corbin

Otis against Corbin never ended up happening.

Otis made his entrance for his match against King Corbin. He walked past Uso and headed towards the ring.

Suddenly, Uso returned and attacked Otis from behind as he was about to enter the ring. Uso viciously beat down Otis with a chair.

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode walked to the ring and mocked Otis for getting beat up. They made a bunch of dumb jokes. Ziggler even admitted they made dumb jokes.

They got serious and turned their attention to the SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits.

The Street Profits made their way to the ring. They talked about their match with the New Day and praised them.

Montez Ford is excited that they have a match with Roode and HBK. Angelo Dawkins corrected Ford, but he didn’t believe him. Ford pointed out the similarities between Ziggler and HBK.

Non-Title: Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode defeated SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits

This was a fine match. Both teams worked hard for the time they had.

On commentary, Michael Cole noted if Ziggler and Roode win, they will receive a future title shot.

The Street Profits had the early advantage. Ziggler attempted a suicide dive, but Dawkins cut him off.

Ford attempted the frog splash, but Roode pulled Dawkins off the apron. Ford went for the frog splash anyway, but Ziggler got his knees up.

The heels took over as they went to a break.

Back from the break, the heels were firmly in control. They isolated Ford and cut him off from Dawkins. Ziggler hit a splash in the corner, and Roode followed up with a backbreaker for a near fall. The heels worked over Ford’s injured ribs caused by The New Day at Survivor Series.

Ziggler missed a charge in the corner, and Dawkins got the tag. Dawkins ran wild on the heels. He hit the twisting splash on Roode and Ziggler.

Dawkins then hit a cool looking twisting neck breaker on Ziggler.

Dawkins hit the spine buster on Roode, and Ford hit the frog splash, but Ziggler broke up the pin attempt. The finish came when Roode rolled up Ford for the win.

They recapped the feud between Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn.

Kayla Braxton interviewed Bryan in the back. Bryan has to accept certain things. He has to accept that Jey Uso has a devil on his shoulder. He also has to accept that Sami Zayn is delusional.

Bryan promised to defeat Zayn tonight. He noted that Zayn thinks everyone is out to get him. Bryan’s not out to get Zayn. He’s out to get the Intercontinental title. Bryan has to defeat Zayn tonight to get one step closer to the I.C. title.

In the back, Kayla Braxton interviewed the Mysterio family and Murphy. Murphy had his arm around Aalyah during the interview. Rey praised Dominik and is proud he made his debut this year. He’s also proud of Aalyah.

Rey is also happy that Murphy sees the real Seth Rollins now. King Corbin interrupted. He was furious that they’re all of a sudden a happy family. He mocked Murphy and doubts he’ll be with The Mysterio Family during the holidays next year.

They aired a video looking back at the career of the Undertaker. It included his comments and appearance from Survivor Series. The fans chanted, “Thank you, Taker.”

Non-Title: Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn defeated Daniel Bryan

Zayn and Bryan had a good match that ended with a creative count-out finish.

Cole noted that if Bryan wins he gets a future title shot.

They came back from the break, and Sami Zayn was already in the ring talking. He doesn’t think he should defend the title the day after a holiday. Zayn mocked the Thanksgiving holiday. He turned his attention to Daniel Bryan.

Zayn feels that Bryan doesn’t deserve a title shot. He already defeated Bryan. Bryan’s music hit and cut him off.

Bryan was in control early as he worked over Zayn’s arm. Bryan took Zayn to the mat and worked over the left arm. The pace quickened. Bryan attempted a back body drop, but Zayn kicked Bryan in the face.

Zayn climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Bryan cut him off. Zayn shoved Bryan off, but Bryan recovered and rocked Zayn with a dropkick. Zayn fell off the top to ringside. Bryan attempted a crossbody to the floor, but Zayn moved, and he crashed hard into the barricade.

Back from the break, Zayn was firmly in control, but Bryan fought back. Bryan then hit a hurricanrana off the top for a near fall.

Bryan slowed the pace down and worked over the arm.

Zayn avoided a kick and rolled to the apron. Bryan went after Zayn on the apron. Zayn raked Bryan in the eyes and rammed him into the ring post. In a crazy looking spot, Zayn gave Bryan a brainbuster on the apron.

Zayn almost won by count-out, but Bryan made it back in the ring. Zayn immediately hit the blue thunder bomb for a very close near fall.

Zayn yelled at Bryan. He attempted a second blue thunder bomb, but Bryan countered into the Yes Lock. Zayn fought back and made it to the ropes to break the hold.

Zayn rolled to the floor, but Bryan hit a suicide dive. He threw Zayn in the ring, but he rolled out to the other side. Bryan hit another suicide dive. Zayn ran to the back, and Bryan went after him.

The referee counted in the ring and reached 7 when Zayn came sprinting back to the ring to win by count-out.

On commentary, Michael Cole and Corey Graves wondered about Bryan.

They cut backstage, and Jey Uso was beating down Bryan. Kevin Owens and referees ran in and pulled him off. Uso stormed off. Owens told a referee to look after Bryan because he’s going where Uso’s going.

Owens followed Uso.

Back from the break, Kevin Owens approached Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, and Paul Heyman in the back. He’s sick of their family issues affecting the roster. Owens mocked them and walked off.

Reigns was offended and told Uso to take care of it.

Bianca Belair defeated Natalya

This was a good match for the time they had.

Bayley joined Cole and Graves on commentary. Cole kept pointing out that Bayley was the first person eliminated from her team.

Natalya backed Belair in the corner and rocked her with shots. Natalya followed up with a suplex for a near fall. Belair fought back and used an inside cradle for a near fall.

Natalya recovered and hit a discus clothesline for a near fall.

Belair fought back and tossed Natalya to the floor. Bayley got in Belair’s face and told her to get Natalya back in the ring and not get counted out again. Belair yelled at Bayley to sit down.

Natalya tried to jumped Belair from behind and almost hit Bayley. Belair ended up hitting Bayley in the face.

Natalya threw Belair back in the ring and attempted the sharpshooter. Bayley jumped up on the apron. At the same time, Belair pushed off, and Natalya collided with Bayley. Natalya turned around, and Belair rolled up her up for the win.

They recapped Jey Uso attacking Otis with a chair earlier tonight.

In the back, Paul Heyman spoke with Adam Pearce.

Murphy (w/ Aalyah, Dominik & Rey Mysterio) defeated King Corbin

This match dragged, and the psychology was strange. The faces cheated throughout the match, and the heel had to overcome the odds.

Corbin had the early advantage, but Dominik and Rey Mysterio kept jumping up on the apron. Corbin remained in control. He attempted the around the ring post clothesline, but Aalyah stood in the way.

Corbin became frustrated that the Mysterio family kept interfering. Murphy took over and hit a dive off the apron. Corbin regained control and hit deep six for a near fall.

Dominik and Rey kept interfering. Corbin was yelling at the referee that it’s not fair. The finish came when Dominik grabbed Corbin’s leg, and Murphy rocked Corbin with a knee for the pin. Corbin got his foot on the bottom rope, but Dominik pushed it off.

After the match, Corbin demanded a rematch next week.

Michael Cole revealed that Heyman convinced Pearce to make Jey Uso against Kevin Owens official for tonight.

In the back, Big E and Apollo Crews were hanging out. Kayla Braxton was in the background, waiting to conduct an interview.

Sami Zayn approached and demanded they leave because he has an interview. Zayn mocked Big E for not being an Intercontinental champion in ten years. Big E thanked Zayn and shook his hand. Big E wouldn’t let go and crushed Zayn’s hand.

Billie Kay interrupted Michael Cole and Corey Graves at commentary. She tried to get a job. Cole gestured to the camera to cut and acted embarrassed.

In the back, Carmella talked about her return and not dancing for people’s amusement. They aired clips of Carmella’s return and her attacks on Sasha Banks. Carmella noted people jump for her now, and she snapped her fingers. Nobody responded. She snapped again. Suddenly, Banks’ hand holding a champagne glass appeared. Carmella was shocked.

Banks threw the drink in Carmella’s face. Banks attacked her and locked on the Bank Statement until referees pulled her off.

Kevin Owens defeated Jey Uso

Owens and Uso had a good match until the finish, although it worked into the story of the feud.

They attacked each other at the ring of the bell. They traded hard shots, with Owens gaining control.

Owens backed Uso into the corner and beat him down. He then tossed Uso to the floor. Uso sent Owens into the steps to take over.

They showed Roman Reigns watching the match in the back. Paul Heyman was watching Reigns watching the match.

Owens fought back and rocked Uso with a clothesline. He followed up with a senton but then went shoulder-first into the ring post.

Uso attempted a suicide dive, but Owens caught him. He slingshotted Uso into the ring post and followed up with two superkicks.

Back from the break, Owens hit a Swanton Bomb off the apron onto Uso at ringside. Uso fought back and attacked Owens’ injured arm. Uso slowed the pace down and worked over Owens’ arm.

Uso missed a splash in the corner, and Owens rocked him with a superkick. Owens fought back and attempted the pop-up powerbomb, but his arm gave out.

Uso then hit the superkick for a close near fall. Uso climbed to the top, but Owens cut him off. Uso pushed him off and attempted the splash, but Owens got his knees up.

Owens attempted the stunner, but Uso avoided. Uso grabbed a chair and beat Owens down for the disqualification.

Uso continued the beat down Owens and cleared off the announce table. Uso jumped back in the ring, but Owens hit the stunner.

Owens grabbed the chair and viciously beat down Uso. He looked into the camera and asked if Reigns is watching. Owens shouted that he fears no one, including Reigns.

Owens called out Reigns and hit a stunner on Uso. Reigns watched from the back. Owens pounded on the table and told Reigns that he’s waiting. Reigns was unhappy and furious.

Contract signing, Daniel Bryan vs. Jey Uso set for WWE SmackDown

Raw’s Drew McIntyre is set to appear on SmackDown for the second straight week.

WWE has announced that McIntyre will be on SmackDown tonight and will take part in a contract signing with Universal Champion Roman Reigns. McIntyre won the WWE Championship from Randy Orton in the main event of Monday’s Raw and is facing Reigns in a non-title champion vs. champion match at this Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view.

McIntyre confronted Reigns on SmackDown last week and then went face-to-face with Reigns at the end of the show after defeating Reigns’ cousin Jey Uso in the main event.

WWE has also announced that Uso vs. Daniel Bryan will take place on SmackDown tonight. This will be the first time Bryan has appeared on SmackDown since Uso defeated him in a Survivor Series qualifying match three weeks ago. Uso officially aligned with Reigns and beat down Bryan after that match, including giving Bryan a splash from the top rope through the announce table. The attack continued in a post-show angle, with Uso pushing over a stretcher that Bryan was on and giving him another splash from the top rope in the ring.

Tonight’s SmackDown will also feature Seth Rollins vs. Murphy.

WWE SmackDown video highlights: Jey Uso falls in line

As a consequence of his Hell in a Cell loss, Jey Uso fell in line and aligned with Roman Reigns on SmackDown last night.

Reigns told Uso in the opening segment that he had until the end of the night to fall in line or he would be cast out of their family. Uso said he hates Reigns and questioned why Reigns was doing this to him.

In last night’s main event, Uso defeated Daniel Bryan to qualify for SmackDown’s Survivor Series men’s team. Uso then told Reigns that he’s with him, that he loves Reigns, and that he understands now. Uso beat down Bryan, including giving him a splash from the top rope through the announce table. The attack continued after SmackDown went off the air, with Uso pushing Bryan off a stretcher and hitting another splash.

Two other Survivor Series qualifying matches also took place last night. Kevin Owens defeated Dolph Ziggler to qualify for SmackDown’s Survivor Series men’s team. Bianca Belair defeated Billie Kay and Natalya in a triple threat match to qualify for SmackDown’s Survivor Series women’s team.

After defeating Bayley at Hell in a Cell, Sasha Banks made her first appearance as SmackDown Women’s Champion last night. Bayley interrupted Banks and set up a SmackDown Women’s Championship rematch for next Friday.

November 2, 2020 Observer Newsletter: WWE Q3 financials, more

ince McMahon expressed a sense of optimism with his two most recent hires, President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan and Chief Financial Officer Kristina Salen, when opening an earnings call on 10/29 talking about the most complex time in the company’s history.

The entire media landscape is filled with uncertainty. The biggest challenge is the changing role of television and the move to streaming content. While McMahon pushed the idea that more people than ever before are watching WWE, actual product popularity is still based on getting people interested in the product, whether that be from a big show perspective or regular viewing perspective.

Television ratings are down. In a sense, they are down less than many sports that returned to play of late, and more than others. They are down more than television in general. There are more ways to watch the content than ever before, but WWE’s revenue is more based on television, in decline both in priorities to the large conglomerates and in viewing.

Daniel Bryan returning to WWE TV, Tag title match set for SmackDown

SmackDown’s season premiere episode will include Daniel Bryan’s return to WWE television.

WWE has announced that Bryan will make his WWE ThunderDome debut as he kicks off this Friday’s season premiere edition of SmackDown. Bryan remained on SmackDown when he was drafted as the brand’s third pick during the second night of the WWE Draft this Monday.

Bryan and his wife Brie Bella welcomed the birth of their second child, a boy named Buddy Dessert Danielson, this August. Bryan hasn’t made an in-person appearance on SmackDown since June.

A SmackDown Tag Team title match has also been added to this Friday’s SmackDown season premiere episode. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Street Profits will defend their titles against Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode.

The Street Profits were SmackDown’s second pick during night two of the WWE Draft. They were the Raw Tag Team Champions when they got picked, but there was a segment on Monday’s Raw where The Street Profits and The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) swapped Tag Team title belts.

Kingston & Woods retained their Raw Tag Team titles against Ziggler & Roode on Monday. Ziggler & Roode were drafted to SmackDown on the episode and did a post-show interview where they said they’re coming after The Street Profits’ titles.

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship, The New Day (Big E, Kingston & Woods) vs. Sheamus, Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro in a six-man tag match, and Jeff Hardy vs. Lars Sullivan are also set for this week’s SmackDown. To celebrate the season premiere, Fox will also have a special 30-minute pre-show prior to SmackDown. It will begin on Fox at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time and will be hosted by Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young in WWE) and Booker T.

The six-man tag is being billed as The New Day’s SmackDown farewell match. While Kingston & Woods were drafted to Raw, Big E is remaining on SmackDown.

Brie Bella & Daniel Bryan welcome birth of second child

Brie Bella (Brianna Danielson) and Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) have welcomed the birth of their second child.

In an Instagram post today, Brie revealed that she gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday: “It’s a BOY!!! 8-1-2020 We are overwhelmed with joy and everyone is healthy!!!”

Brie and Bryan waited until the baby was born to find out its gender. The couple’s daughter, Birdie Joe Danielson, was born in May 2017.

Bryan hasn’t made an in-person appearance on WWE television since the June 19 episode of SmackDown but has been on the show via Zoom twice since then.

Brie and Nikki Bella announced in January that they were both pregnant and that their due dates were a week and a half apart. On the season five finale of Total Bellas, it was revealed that Nikki and her fiance Artem Chigvintsev are expecting a baby boy. It will be their first child.

Season six of Total Bellas will premiere this fall. Last month, the New York Times wrote about filming for the show: “A skeleton film crew has been living nearby, in Airbnb rentals. Its members are required to wear masks on set at all times, have their temperatures checked multiple times a day and maintain proper social distance from behind the camera. Though filming largely wrapped at the beginning of July, at least two crew members will remain in Arizona, apart from their own families, as they wait for both Bella babies to be born. (Outside cameras are banned from the delivery room, so any footage will be taken by the twins’ partners.)”

AJ Styles to hold Intercontinental title celebration on WWE SmackDown

A championship celebration will be held this Friday on SmackDown.

AJ Styles announced tonight during Backlash that he will be holding a championship celebration in honor of himself winning the Intercontinental championship. He said that everyone was invited, including the person he beat for the championship Daniel Bryan, as he has the most to learn. Styles said Bryan was one the best ever, but wasn’t phenomenal.

Styles’ championship win was aired this past Friday on SmackDown, defeating Daniel Bryan in the finals of a tournament to crown a new champion. It was a back and forth match, with Styles picking up the win after cutting off Daniel Bryan with a phenomenal forearm off the top rope. This marks his first run with the championship.

The former champion, Sami Zayn, was stripped of the championship back on May 12 during an episode of WWE Backstage. Zayn has stayed at home, opting to not wrestle during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WWE SmackDown video highlights: AJ Styles vs. Daniel Bryan

A new Intercontinental Champion was crowned on last night’s episode of SmackDown.

In the finals of WWE’s Intercontinental Championship tournament, AJ Styles defeated Daniel Bryan to win the title. The match went through four commercial breaks and was called an instant classic on commentary after it was over.

Bryan went for a running knee near the finish, but Styles caught him and hit the Styles Clash. Styles then hit the Phenomenal Forearm to win the title.

This is the first time Styles has held the Intercontinental title in his career.

Last night’s SmackDown was also the go-home show for Backlash. Braun Strowman teamed with Heavy Machinery against The Miz, John Morrison & Dolph Ziggler in the main event, Bayley & Sasha Banks’ Championship Friendship Celebration got interrupted by their Backlash challengers, and Sheamus demanded that Jeff Hardy pass a drug test as part of the contract signing for their match on Sunday.

Styles defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the first round of the tournament and then got a bye to the finals. Bryan defeated Drew Gulak in the first round and Sheamus in the semifinals. The semifinals were originally supposed to be Styles vs. Elias and Bryan vs. Jeff Hardy, but that was changed after the hit-and-run angle involving Elias, Hardy, and Sheamus.

Styles was traded to SmackDown for “future considerations” at the start of the tournament.

Sami Zayn, who hasn’t appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 36, was Intercontinental Champion prior to the title being declared vacant last month. On social media, Zayn has been pushing that he’s still the rightful champion. He tweeted about Styles vs. Bryan earlier this week: “Two guys who will put on a match that will no doubt be a wrestling clinic, to prove once and for all just who is the bigger fraud.”

WWE SmackDown live results: IC title tournament finals

A new Intercontinental Champion will be crowned on tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles will face off in the finals of the Intercontinental title tournament. The tournament played out over the last several weeks on TV. Styles defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in the first round and received a bye to the finals, while Bryan defeated Drew Gulak and Sheamus to advance to the finals.

Tonight’s SmackDown is also the go-home show for Backlash. Jeff Hardy and Sheamus will meet face-to-face for the official contract signing for their match at the pay-per-view. Hardy and Elias were involved in a hit-and-run angle two weeks ago. Hardy revealed last week that he was framed, and a witness identified Sheamus as the real culprit. Sheamus denied any wrongdoing and beat Hardy down.

Universal Champion Braun Strowman & Heavy Machinery will take on The Miz, John Morrison & Dolph Ziggler in a six-man tag team match. Strowman defends against Miz & Morrison Sunday night at Backlash.

Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

They recapped the Jeff Hardy and Sheamus angle from last week.

Jeff Hardy And Sheamus Contract Signing

Renee Young was already in the ring for the contract signing. Young introduced Sheamus first, and he came out with a doctor, security, and a curtain.

On commentary, Michael Cole was surprised Sheamus didn’t come out alone and noted this is supposed to be a simple contract signing.

Sheamus apologized to Young for what’s about to happen. Hardy noted Sheamus tried to frame him, and not even Sheamus’s security team can help him. Sheamus pointed out they’re not here to protect him. They’re here for Hardy.

Sheamus demanded Hardy to take a drug test right now, or he won’t sign the contract. He won’t get in the ring with a junkie.

Hardy admitted to being an alcoholic, and he goes to a meeting every week. Hardy wants to be a beacon of light for people like him. He agreed to take the drug test just to ensure he gets his match with Sheamus.

Sheamus brought in a doctor who is going to administer a rapid test. Usually, it takes 24-hours to get the results, but this doctor can do it faster.

Hardy went behind the curtain and did his business. He filled up the entire jar.

Sheamus did a PSA about not doing drugs. Sheamus mocked Hardy and assumed he’s going to fail the drug test.

Hardy then grabbed the jar of urine and threw it on Sheamus. Hardy signed the contract and took off. Sheamus stumbled around the ring and then went nuts.

Back from commercial, Sheamus was in the bathroom, rinsing out his mouth. The doctor entered and told Sheamus that Hardy passed the drug test. Sheamus was furious. This was a fine opening segment, although toilet humor isn’t for everyone.

Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated SmackDown Tag Team Champions The New Day in a non-title match

In an awesome moment, The New Day entered and took a knee in the middle of the ring. Big E was wearing a black armband for Shukri Abdi and Kingston wore black armbands for Breonna Taylor and Tamla Horsford.

They had a good TV tag team match.

The New Day had the early advantage. Big E launched Kingston over the top rope onto the heels. Nakamura fought back and knocked Big E off the apron. Cesaro then followed up with an uppercut.

Back from the break, Cesaro was firmly in control with a chin lock. Big E fought back, and Kingston got the hot tag. He ran wild on Nakamura and hit the boom drop. Kingston set up for trouble in paradise, but Cesaro interfered.

Kingston then hit the SOS for a close near fall. Big E tackled Cesaro over the top rope, and they fell to the floor. Kingston and Nakamura fought on the top rope.

Kingston pushed off Nakamura and hit a flying crossbody. Nakamura got his knee up and rolled up Kingston for the win.

In the back, Otis and Tucker were getting ready for their match later tonight. Mandy Rose kissed Otis and handed him the Money in the Bank briefcase. Tucker noted Otis should cash in tonight on Braun Strowman if the opportunity presents itself.

Suddenly, Sheamus and Jeff Hardy started brawling backstage. Officials ran in to break them up.

They showed a good video package about the IC title and the tournament. They looked at the history of the title and highlighted several champions, including Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Pat Patterson, Ultimate Warrior, Triple H, Randy Orton, Steve Austin, and The Rock.

Intercontinental Championship tournament finals: AJ Styles defeated Daniel Bryan to win the Intercontinental Title

Bryan and Styles had an excellent match. It was one of the best SmackDown matches in a long time.

They had a hard-hitting match and told a good story. The match went 38 minutes with four commercial breaks.

Bryan had an early advantage with a wristlock, but Styles reversed. Bryan broke free and rocked Styles with a standing dropkick. Bryan then tossed Styles to the floor and followed up with a suicide dive.

Back from the break, Bryan was firmly in control and landed several knees to Styles back. Bryan worked over the left arm.

Styles broke free and shot Bryan off the ropes. Styles then rocked Bryan with a standing dropkick.

Styles took over and worked over Bryan’s arm. Bryan fought back and caught Styles with a knee to the midsection. He tried to apply a surfboard, but his arm was still hurting.

Instead, Bryan worked on Styles knee and rolled up Styles for a near fall.

In an excellent series of moves, Bryan rocked Styles with kicks in the corner. Bryan attempted a running dropkick, but Styles charged and hit a sunset flip for a near fall. Styles and Bryan then traded a series of quick pinfall attempts. They both got back to their feet and collided in the middle of the ring.

Back from the break, Bryan was back in control and continued to work on Styles’ arm. Bryan attempted the Yes Lock, but Styles fought out and sent him to the floor.

Styles leaped over the top rope to the floor, but Bryan caught him and sent him shoulder-first into the ring post. Bryan stomped Styles elbow and applied a hammerlock. Bryan pulled way back and then rolled up Styles for a near fall.

Bryan attempted the running dropkick in the corner, but Styles moved, and Bryan crashed in the corner. Styles recovered and nailed Bryan with kicks to the leg. Styles then slammed Bryan’s leg on the apron.

Styles continued to work over Bryan’s leg. Styles tied up Bryan’s leg in the ropes and rocked Bryan with kicks. Bryan fought back and hit Styles with an enziguri.

Bryan placed Styles on the top turnbuckle and hit a hurricanrana. Bryan attempted the Yes kicks, but Styles ducked, and they traded hard strikes. They both went for a clothesline and collied in the middle of the ring again.

Back from the break, Bryan and Styles traded stiff shots in the middle of the ring. Bryan launched Styles over the top rope to the floor. He attempted a suicide dive, but Styles cut him off with a kick to the arm.

Styles attempted the Phenomenal forearm, but Bryan caught him and locked in an armbar. Styles reversed into the calf crusher, but Bryan countered back into the armbar and then into the triangle. Styles attempted the Styles Clash, but Bryan broke free. Bryan rocked Styles with a hard kick to the side of the head.

Bryan placed Styles on the top, but Styles hit Bryan with elbows and knocked him off. Bryan recovered and climbed back to the top. Styles knocked Bryan off again, but he got right back up. Bryan then hit the belly to back suplex off the top turnbuckle.

Back from the break, Bryan rocked Styles with uppercuts. Bryan ran up the turnbuckle, did a backflip, and landed on his bad leg. Styles then hit a reverse DDT.

Styles hit the Pele kick and followed up with a brainbuster for a very close near fall. Styles attempted the Styles Clash, but Bryan rolled him up for a near fall.

Styles attempted the Pele kick again, but Bryan caught the leg and hit a German Suplex. He held on, but Styles broke free and hit a German suplex for a near fall. Bryan recovered and hit a series of elbows.

Bryan applied the Yes Lock, but Styles made it to the ropes to break the hold. Bryan grabbed Styles’s arms and hit kicks to the head. In an awesome spot, Bryan set up for the running knee, but Styles caught him and hit the Styles Clash. Styles then hit the Phenomenal forearm to win the Intercontinental title for the first time.

After the match, Renee Young interviewed the new champion AJ Styles.

They recapped The Miz & John Morrison torturing Braun Strowman last week and Strowman flipping over their van with them in it.

In the back, Universal Champion Braun Strowman noted there’s a lot going on tonight between drug tests and a new champion. Strowman said he likes Otis, but he’s not in the mood tonight for Otis to cash-in his MITB.

The ring crew was setting up the ring for a celebration involving the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Bayley & Sasha Banks.

They recapped Bayley and Banks defeating Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross to win the titles.

SmackDown Woman’s Champion & WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bayley & Sasha Banks made their way to the ring. Bayley noted she’s the most dominant champion, and it could be lonely on top. However, she’s not alone because she’s with her best friend, Sasha Banks.

Banks said they’re role models and leaders. Banks noted the titles represent their friendship. Bayley was about to read a poem for Banks when Bliss and Cross interrupted. Bliss and Cross promised to win the titles back at Backlash.

Bayley was furious that they interrupted. The IIconics then appeared on the big screen with the Raw logo in the background. They promised to win the titles Sunday night. They noted they beat down Bayley and Banks on Raw, and if they don’t want that to happen on SmackDown, they shouldn’t turn their backs on Bliss and Cross.

Bliss and Cross then attacked Bayley and Banks.

The heels rolled out of the ring and took off. This was a fine segment but couldn’t follow the previous match.

Kayla Braxton interviewed The Miz & John Morrison in the back. They tried playing a new music video, but Braun Strowman’s music interrupted in the arena. Strowman made his way to the ring.

They showed another Matt Riddle video package.

Universal Champion Braun Strowman & Heavy Machinery defeated The Miz, John Morrison & Dolph Ziggler

This was a decent six-man tag team match, but it couldn’t follow Bryan versus Styles. It made little sense that the six-man tag was the main event and not the finals of the IC title tournament.

The faces had the early advantage. Otis and Tucker gave Miz a double head butt. Tucker gave Morrison a backdrop, but he landed on his feet. Morrison leaped off the middle rope, but Tucker caught him in a power slam for a near fall.

Otis and Tucker launched Strowman into Ziggler in the corner. Tucker then gave Ziggler a standing vertical suplex.

Suddenly, King Corbin appeared in the back on the big screen. He approached Mandy Rose. She was just standing around. Corbin was mad that Otis and Rose stole his crown last week. Otis ran from the ring to the back.

Corbin noted Rose is fantasizing about being with a man like him. Otis then appeared and beat down Corbin.

Back from the break, the heels were firmly in control. Strowman and Tucker were on their own because Otis didn’t come back.

Ziggler slowed the pace down with a front face lock. The heels isolated Tucker and cut him off from his side of the ring. Tucker broke free and attempted a tag, but Miz and Morrison pulled Strowman off the apron. They beat down Strowman at ringside.

Otis and Mandy Rose then made their way back to the ring.

Otis got the hot tag and ran wild on the heels. He launched Ziggler over the top to the floor. Strowman than ran around ringside, knocking everyone down with shoulder blocks. Otis then hit the caterpillar on Ziggler for the win.

After the match, Strowman, Otis, Rose, and Tucker celebrated their win.

Bryan and Styles face-to-face segment set for WWE SmackDown

Before they meet in the finals of WWE’s Intercontinental title tournament, Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles will take part in a face-to-face segment.

WWE has announced that Bryan and Styles will come face-to-face for a segment on this week’s SmackDown. It comes in advance of them facing off in the Intercontinental title tournament finals on SmackDown next week (Friday, June 12).

Bryan vs. Jeff Hardy and Styles vs. Elias were originally supposed to be the semifinal matches for the Intercontinental title tournament, but those were changed after the hit-and-run angle that opened last week’s SmackDown. Bryan wanted to face a new opponent, while Styles wanted to advance to the finals automatically.

Sheamus, who lost to Hardy in the previous round, won a 10-man battle royal and advanced to face Bryan in the semifinals in last week’s main event. Hardy returned at the end of the show and distracted Sheamus. Hardy then attacked Sheamus after the match until he ran off.

WWE furthered the angle by announcing after last week’s show that Hardy “was released from custody by the Orlando police after successfully passing the required sobriety tests, therefore absolving Hardy of the charges of public intoxication, driving under the influence, and the hit-and-run on Elias.”

WWE is advertising that Hardy will share his side of the story on SmackDown tomorrow. Bayley & Sasha Banks will also challenge for Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross’ Women’s Tag Team titles on the episode, and The Miz & John Morrison will have a warning for Braun Strowman ahead of Backlash. Strowman is defending his Universal Championship against Miz & Morrison in a handicap match at the June 14 pay-per-view.

WWE Backstage videos: Punk-Bryan reunite, George Floyd discussion

Last night’s episode of WWE Backstage featured a reunion between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

Punk was back on the Backstage panel for last night’s show, while Bryan was the featured guest for the episode. This was Punk’s seventh appearance on Backstage as an analyst and the first time he’s been on the show since May 13.

WWE on FOX uploaded a 26-minute digital exclusive version of Renee Young and Punk’s interview with Bryan:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T09HKU-sE74

Young, Booker T, Mark Henry, and Punk were the panel for last night’s Backstage. They discussed the nationwide protests that have happened since George Floyd was murdered in police custody.

Henry shared his experience of him and his family attending a protest in Austin, Texas, Punk got emotional while discussing hatred being stoked by those currently in power and his grandfather’s experience fighting Nazis, and Booker T urged people to be leaders and say something when they see racism and injustice:

WWE SmackDown video highlights: Hit-and-run, Bryan vs. Sheamus

A hit-and-run angle was the focus of last night’s SmackDown.

The show opened with the revelation that Elias had been hit by a car outside of the WWE Performance Center. The driver of the vehicle wasn’t around, but it was revealed to be Jeff Hardy’s rental car and a bottle of alcohol was found inside of it. A disoriented Hardy was then found and taken into police custody, while Elias was also removed from WWE’s Intercontinental title tournament due to being unable to compete.

Hardy vs. Daniel Bryan and Elias vs. AJ Styles were supposed to be the semifinals of the tournament. Styles advanced to the finals automatically, but Bryan said he wasn’t a coward and wanted to face a new opponent. Sheamus, who lost to Hardy in the first round, won a 10-man battle royal and went on to face Bryan in the main event.

Bryan defeated Sheamus in the semifinals, hitting him with a running knee after Hardy made his return at the end of the match. Hardy then attacked Sheamus until Sheamus fled.

WWE.com furthered the storyline by posting an update after SmackDown went off the air:

WWE Digital has learned Jeff Hardy was released from custody by the Orlando police after successfully passing the required sobriety tests, therefore absolving Hardy of the charges of public intoxication, driving under the influence, and the hit-and-run on Elias earlier tonight.

Elias was found injured in the parking lot with an abandoned car nearby before Friday Night SmackDown began. Hardy was taken into custody after being found in a dazed state not far from the scene, but he reemerged as Sheamus battled Daniel Bryan in the night’s final match.

Stay tuned to WWE social and digital channels for the latest updates on the developing situation.
