Home Town Man re-signs with TNA Wrestling

With the company’s AMC premiere now just a couple of days away, TNA Wrestling has announced some more contract news.

It was revealed today that the Home Town Man (Cody Deaner) has re-signed with TNA. Deaner announced the news on the I Love Wrestling podcast, noting that his goal in re-signing is to become a champion in TNA as the promotion enters a new era on AMC.

“My personal goal in this new era of TNA is to win gold,” Deaner said. “I mean, we’ve put our name on the history books of having this new era of new fans [on AMC]. I want my name in the history book that the Home Town Man has won a championship in TNA. That means I have to stay in TNA and I have to be on the team. I actually have some breaking news… Home Town Man has officially put pen to paper and I have re-signed with TNA Wrestling. So I am officially re-signed with TNA. I am on the team, and I am ready to take TNA to the next level with AMC. This is sweet.”

The Home Town Man is an over-the-top babyface character that Deaner has adopted while embracing every city as his home. Deaner told the I Love Wrestling podcast that he believes pro wrestling is the coolest job in the world, and it means the world to him that he can re-sign with TNA and continue to make a living in the industry.

Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander are among those who have also re-signed with TNA in advance of the AMC premiere.

Impact debuts on AMC and AMC+ this Thursday (January 15) from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. Airing live from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time, the episode will feature a World Championship match with Frankie Kazarian defending against Mike Santana. WWE star AJ Styles is also returning to TNA for an appearance on the show.

TNA Under Siege notes: Spitfire disbands, Cody Deaner, Raj Singh

Here are some notes coming out of Friday’s TNA Under Siege.

Spitfire (Dani Luna & Jody Threat) failed to win the Knockouts Tag Team titles from Ash & Heather by Elegance on Friday after Ash defeated Threat with the rarified air (swanton) after sending Luna through a table. Per the stipulations of the title match, Spitfire must now split up as a team.

Cody Deaner failed to win a TNA contract, losing to Eddie Edwards in a match where if he won, he would officially join the TNA roster. Alisha Edwards was the deciding factor, low blowing Deaner and giving Eddie Edwards the opportunity to strike with the Boston knee party for the win.

After the match, the rest of The System came out to mock Deaner for his loss and also insulted Canada. That brought out The Northern Armory to issue a challenge leading Eric Young, Judas Icarus, and Travis Williams to defeat Moose, Brian Myers, and JDC.

Raj Singh ended up replacing Ace Austin in a six-man tag team match pitting Order 4 (Mustafa Ali, Tasha Steelz, John Skyler, and Jason Hotch) against Indi Hartwell, The Rascalz, and Singh, who came out and cut a promo saying Ali was a narcissist with a God complex and everything he’s said is nothing more than him “being full of s***.” Ali ended up getting the win, hitting the 450 splash on the former Campaign Singh.

During an injury report update, TNA said that as a result of Mustafa Ali injuring Austin’s knee on Impact, he would be out of action “indefinitely.” It was reported on Thursday that Austin was leaving TNA due to his contract expiring.

Cody Deaner re-signs with Impact Wrestling

Cody Deaner revealed in an interview with Slam Wrestling released Thursday that he has re-signed with Impact Wrestling.

The 39-year-old has been with the promotion since March 2018 and was also a member of the TNA roster for much of 2009. He is currently part of the Violent By Design faction along with Eric Young and Joe Doering.

Deaner cited creative freedom, the ability to work with other promotions, and Impact’s roster as his reasons for re-signing.

“I believe that we have the best roster in professional wrestling, both in terms of the talent, but also in terms of the morale of the company,” he said. Everybody gets along and it really feels like a team. It feels like family. So I definitely wanted to stay with my family.”

Additionally, Deaner noted that he is still able to continue working as a motivational speaker while part of Impact’s roster.

“Being able to continue with the professional speaking business was a huge factor in my decision to re-sign with Impact,” Deaner continued. “With Impact Wrestling, we have the freedom to follow our passions and do things outside the bubble of the company. We can be our own businessmen and businesswomen and do these other projects.”

Deaner was also the focus of a short film released in 2020 titled “Cody in Kwaranteen” that documented his life in rural Ontario, Canada, during the onset of the global pandemic. Directed by Hannah Michielsen and produced by Willows & Windmills Productions, it was screened at the Austin Comedy Film Festival last spring and won “Best Comedy” at the 2020’s ICP Ent Film Festival.

Three more matches added to Impact Hard to Kill

Three new matches have been added for Impact’s next pay-per-view, Hard to Kill.

Sami Callihan will face Eddie Edwards in a barbed wire massacre match. Their match at the end of tonight’s Impact main event ended in a no contest when the video screen showed Edwards’ wife Alisha caged in somewhere in the backstage area. Edwards went to save her, but it was a trap as Callihan’s associate Ken Shamrock jumped Edwards as he approached the cage. Callihan then came in and attacked Edwards with a bat.

A six-man tag team match has also been set for Had to Kill. Eric Young, Cody Deaner & Joe Doering will face Tommy Dreamer, Rhino & Cousin Jake in an old school rules match (a no DQ and no countout match). Rhino & Jake faced Deaner & Doering on tonight’s show, with Deaner getting the win over Jake after a low blow. Dreamer made the save for the team after the match and issued the challenge.

Additionally, Ethan Page and Karate Man will face off against one another at Hard to Kill, despite Karate Man also being portrayed by Page. Page was in a therapy session during a segment on tonight’s Impact with Karate Man, talking about how his career has been derailed since The North lost the Impact Tag Team titles. He ended up getting into an argument with Karate Man, leading Page to challenge him for Hard to Kill.

Other matches slated for the show include Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) vs. Rich Swann & The Motor City Machine Guns, Deonna Purrazzo vs. Taya Valkyrie for the Knockouts Championship, Manik vs. Chris Bey vs. Rohit Raju for the X-Division Championship, and Havok & Nevaeh vs. Kiera Hogan & Tasha Steelz in the Knockouts Tag Team title tournament finals.

Hard to Kill takes place on Saturday, January 16.
