New match added to NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 lineup

A new match has been announced for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20.

El Phantasmo will defend his NJPW World Television title against DDT’s Chris Brookes on the show. The match was set up on today’s NJPW Road to Tokyo Dome show at Korakuen Hall. Following ELP’s successful title defense against Ryusuke Taguchi, he put out an open challenge for the Tokyo Dome and Brookes came out to answer the call.

“New Japan World TV Championship open challenge Tokyo Dome, Wrestle Kingdom!” ELP said on the show.

This led to Tatsuya Matsumoto in a Santa costume coming out with a present for ELP. As ELP was opening the gift, Brookes attacked him from behind and revealed he would be his challenger at Wrestle Kingdom. Brookes then gave ELP a Praying Mantis bomb.

The updated lineup for the show is below:

Two new matches set for cross-promotional United Japan event

Two new matches have been added to the card for May’s All Together event, the first show under the United Japan Pro-Wrestling banner.

It was announced in December 2023 that nine promotions had come together to form the United Japan Pro-Wrestling industry group. Their first collaborative show is being held at Budokan Hall on Monday, May 6.

A singles match between Pro Wrestling NOAH star Kenoh and NJPW’s Kosei Fujita has been added to the All Together event. A tag team match with SANADA (NJPW) & KAI (Dragon Gate) facing Zack Sabre Jr. (NJPW) & Chris Brookes (DDT) is also now set.

NJPW, AJPW, NOAH, DDT, Ganbare, Big Japan, Dragon Gate, Stardom, and Tokyo Joshi Pro are the nine promotions in the industry group. While still operating separately, they’ve come together to advance pro wrestling in Japan following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mission statement for the group is:

To further the presence of pro-wrestling and its cultural merit in Japanese society at large, allow professional wrestling to contribute further to cultural and sporting sectors, and work toward continued health and prosperity of the industry.

All Together is airing as a pay-per-view on ABEMA. A portion of the proceeds from the event are being donated to the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake that happened at the beginning of this year.

Here’s the updated All Together card:

  • Hiroshi Tanahashi, Naomichi Marufuji & Sanshiro Takagi vs. EVIL, Ren Narita & Yujiro Takahashi
  • Tomohiro Ishii & Daisuke Sekimoto vs. Jeff Cobb & Masa Kitamiya
  • Kaito Kiyomiya, Shota Umino & Yuki Ueno vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Yuya Uemura & Shun Skywalker
  • Kenoh vs. Kosei Fujita
  • SANADA & KAI vs. Zack Sabre Jr. & Chris Brookes

Ospreay & PAC teaming together at RevPro WrestleMania week show

Will Ospreay and PAC will be sharing the ring together over WrestleMania week — but they’ll be doing so as teammates.

Revolution Pro Wrestling announced today that Ospreay & PAC will face CCK (Chris Brookes & Jonathan Gresham) at their WrestleMania week show in New York City on Friday, April 5. The show is presented by WrestleCon and will take place at the Hilton New York Midtown Ballroom. The start time is 3 p.m. Eastern.

Ospreay & PAC vs. CCK stems from the story of Ospreay and PAC’s first-ever match against each other from RevPro’s High Stakes event last week. Brookes and Gresham interfered and attacked Ospreay while the referee was down. Brookes went to hit Ospreay with PAC’s Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate title belt, but PAC stopped him. Ospreay and PAC briefly worked together to take out CCK.

Ospreay and PAC’s match at High Stakes ended in a 30-minute time-limit draw. PAC escaped a Storm Breaker and low blowed Ospreay near the finish. PAC wanted the referee to call for the disqualification, but he let the match continue. PAC then went up to hit the Black Arrow, but he opted to celebrate instead as time expired.

The crowd chanted for five more minutes after Ospreay vs. PAC. Ospreay called for it too, but PAC headed to the back.

Marko Stunt replaces Chris Brookes in PWG’s BOLA tournament

Marko Stunt has been added to this weekend’s PWG Battle of Los Angles tournament.

It was announced today by PWG’s Twitter account that Stunt will replace Chris Brookes, who is out of the tournament due to an undisclosed injury. Stunt will face Trevor Lee in a first round match that will take place during night two.

Stunt gained notoriety last month when he was a part of Joey Janela’s Lost In New York event that took place during SummerSlam weekend. Despite his small size, Stunt managed to impress against the much larger KTB. Following the match, Stunt was added to the All In Over Budget battle royal where he eliminated Moose early in the match. He was later eliminated by Bully Ray.

This weekend’s Battle of Los Angeles tournament will start with first round matches on September 14 and 15, with the finals taking place on the 16th. All three shows will take place at the Globe Theater in Los Angeles, California.
