Chris Masters says he and John Cena ‘never mixed too well’ in WWE

Chris Masters and John Cena never got along well when they were both coming up together in WWE.

Appearing on a new episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Masters addressed whether he ever came close to winning a WWE championship. There were plans for him to win the Tag Team titles and Intercontinental Championship that never came to fruition. Masters feels like Vince McMahon was even giving him some consideration for a World Championship run. That never happened either, and Masters thinks the differences between him and Cena could have played a part in McMahon’s decision.

“Oh, all of them,” Masters responded when asked if he ever came close to winning a title. “There was a point, I mean, Carlito and me were supposed to win them at that WrestleMania [22], but it literally got switched like the day before. We were penciled in to win it, but then Carlito, they wanted him to turn baby. And the Spirit Squad, they kind of wanted to get the belts on them somehow to give them some steam. And so that was that.

“And then the Intercontinental title, I was actually supposed to win that, but it was the same point where they had given me an intervention for my prescription painkiller abuse at the time. And they even told me, I remember having the meeting with Johnny [Laurinaitis], because there was a four-way match that night. It was in Vegas for the Intercontinental title that I was slated to win, but then they have caught wind that I had the issues I had and I had a little intervention. Basically told me, ‘You’re going to rehab.’ And so, I screwed that.”

Masters said he thinks McMahon was feeling out a lot of options at one point in the 2000s to see if they had World Champion potential. Though he doesn’t know for sure if Cena was against him getting a World title push, Masters suspects that he was.

“Tag belts, I had no control over, that just happened. [Intercontinental], I effed up. And then, there was a point there, cause you can even watch back to those old Raws where Vince was playing with the idea of making me the youngest champion. But he was feeling out a lot of guys at that point. And I’m pretty sure Cena gave me probably the thumbs down at some point. So I don’t know, maybe,” Masters said.

“We never mixed too well, for whatever reason, you know what I mean? I don’t know. Massachusetts guy, California guy, I don’t know. Just kind of oil and water. But I don’t take away anything from the fact that he’s this generation’s [Hulk] Hogan. And he definitely worked harder than anybody probably would have in that spot, especially for that long.”

Reflecting further on the time he was sent to rehab, Masters said he was initially bitter about it but is happy about the ways the wrestling industry has changed for the better.

“The business is such a cleaner place than it was when I entered,” he said. “It’s nice to not walk into a locker room and have somebody who has issues like that going on or passing out in the locker room. And it’s just a cleaner business now.”

Masters and Cena both trained together at UPW in California when they started out their wrestling careers. Masters still competes on the indies and was formerly part of the NWA roster.

In December of 2025, Cena retired from the ring with a loss to Gunther. He remains under contract with WWE as an ambassador as he transitions into post-wrestling life.

Riddick Moss announced for first post-WWE match

NWA Power results: Masterlock challenge, Tag Team title match

This week’s NWA Power from the Chicago area had all kinds of problems when it debuted on YouTube, crashing after the tag team title “win” you’ll read about below.

This week’s show continued the run toward next weekend’s Crockett Cup tournament.

Talos defeated Blake Troop

This was the definition of a nothing match in the opening minutes, but there was an excellent spot towards the finish when Talos went for a chokeslam on Troop, but Troop landed on the shoulders of Talos and locked on a triangle choke. Talos ended up powering out of it and hit a huge power bomb, but Troop went to the outside to recover. Troop was able to hit a stunner over the ropes and a series of MMA style strikes ending with a big right hand and then a figure four for the finish.

– Mike Knox and Trevor Murdoch were backstage with May Valentine who announced they were entering the Crockett Cup and aiming for the tag team gold.

– Kyle Davis ran down the seeds for the Crockett Cup, including Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr., and Toxin & Arez — all joining from AAA.

NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebelion (Mecha Wolf & Bestia 666) vs. Magnum Muscle (Mims & Dak Draper) went to a no contest

La Rebelion got the heat on Mims right away, hitting a series of high impact double team moves before the referee forced one member to leave the ring. Bestia locked a sleeper on Mims to try and keep him down. Mims dodged a Stinger splash from Bestia, but Bestia was able to recover and knock Draper from the apron before he could recover.

Draper tagged in after Mims hit a double clothesline on both members of La Rebelion. Draper hit a springboard back elbow off the middle ropes, but La Rebelion were able to take his legs out and hit double knees to the face of Draper. Mims and Draper hit a combo powerslam and neckbreaker on Mecha Wolf for the pin and what they thought was the title win.

However, Billy Corgan came out and told the ref the legal man wasn’t pinned and the match was then ruled a no contest. Magnum Muscle were dejected after the decision and this appears to set up an obvious rematch.

NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Kerry Morton defeated Jeremiah Plunkett in an openweight challenge

Talk early was that Plunkett didn’t meet the weight requirement, thus couldn’t challenge for the title.

Part of the story was that Morton was more aggressive, using the ropes to attack Plunkett’s arm and waiting until the ref had to break it up before releasing. Fans seemed to pick up on it as the fans started booing as well.

Plunkett had a run late, but Morton fought out of a pilediver and hit a flatliner, focused on injuring the arm. He missed a knee in the corner, but fought out of another Plunkett attack by wrenching the arm and hitting the Showstopper (Cross Rhodes) for the pin and win.

Masterlock Challenge

This wasn’t a match, but a challenge in that Aron Stevens had to survive the Masterlock (full nelson) by Chris Adonis.

Adonis addressed the crowd and thanked them for supporting the NWA. He reminded Stevens he said, “I give up” in their match several weeks ago which Stevens did not like.

Stevens then did a heel promo, saying Adonis was not the man he used to be and was going to prove it. He left his jacket on which the announcers questioned.

As Adonis went to approach and apply the lock, Stevens said to wait a minute and asked the official to check Adonis’ fingernails so his jacket didn’t get damaged.

A second attempt was also halted as Stevens then wanted to take his jacket off as it was given to him by the prince of Malta. A third attempt was then halted as Stevens claimed Adonis grabbed his ascot as it was a “choking hazard.”

He then stretched his legs to delay it and attempted to delay it another time, but Adonis had enough. He applied the lock, Stevens wailed and tapped immediately, and that ended a rather forgettable segment and show.

Tyrus vs. Chris Adonis World title match set for NWA 312

The NWA World Heavyweight title match for the company’s next pay-per-view, 312, has been announced.

On Tuesday’s NWA Power, Chris Adonis confirmed that he was cashing in his Champions Series title match for the pay-per-view, which takes place on April 7 in Chicago, Illinois. Tyrus last defended the title at Nuff Said earlier this month, defeating Matt Cardona.

The NWA Women’s Championship will also be defended, with champion Kamille taking on La Rosa Negra. In a promo during Tuesday’s show, Negra appeared and said she was also cashing in her Champions Series win. Kamille came out and put over Negra, saying she was one of the few people who saw something in her when she first started. However, Kamille promised to show no mercy to anyone who tried to challenge her.

Already announced for the show is the finals of a tournament to crown the first NWA Women’s Television champion and Cyon defending the National title against EC3.

Here is the lineup so far for 312:

  • NWA World Heavyweight title match: Tyrus (c) vs. Chris Adonis
  • NWA Women’s Championship: Kamille (c) vs. La Rosa Negra
  • NWA National Heavyweight title: Cyon (c) vs. EC3
  • NWA Women’s Television Championship finals

NWA Power Trip part two results: Anthony Mayweather vs. Chris Adonis

The Fixers opened the show in the ring with Joe Galli and cut a promo about their No DQ match with OGK tonight, calling them nerds and telling them to pack up like ROH did.

The Fixers (Jay Bradley & Wrecking Ball) defeated The OGK (Mike Bennett & Matt Taven) in a Crockett Cup first round match

This was an excellent first match in the Crockett Cup. The OGK are really great as a team, and the Fixers are underrated. The crowd was very hot for this match, so I’d love to see the OGK stick around in the NWA going forward because the fans really get into their work. They put over The Fixers huge in this match with their selling and making sure the finish was decisive and clean.

Before the match got started, Billy Corgan came out, grabbed a mic, and announced that this tag match was a first round match in the NWA Crockett Cup. Additionally, it was no longer a No DQ match.

The referee took all the weapons away from the Fixers, including a Barbie doll that was down Jay Bradley’s pants. That was weird. Taven and Bennett hit dropkicks to send Bradley out of the ring. The OGK struggled with taking Wrecking Ball down at first, but did after some effort. It wasn’t long before he was back up and slamming Taven onto the back of Bennett.

The Fixers took this a chance to take over and beat on Bennett for a few minutes, including keeping Taven off the apron so he couldn’t tag out. The OGK ended up both being on the floor, leading Wrecking Ball to go for a dive, but it was a fake out as Bradley tackled them on the outside.

Bennett fired up after a few chops to a roar from the crowd, but Wrecking Ball hit him harder and dropped him to the mat. Taven tagged in after Bradley accidentally kicked Wrecking Ball and ran wild, including hitting a great tope on Bradley. Wrecking Ball sat up after a twisting neckbreaker, but Taven hit a shining wizard for a 2-count.

Taven then connected with a sunset flip bomb off the middle rope, but Bradley broke up the pin while on the apron. Bennett speared Bradley off the apron, but it was for naught as he was able to get back up and cut Taven off. The Fixers both double powerbombed Bennett then hit an awesome double stalling brainbuster for the 3.

A great video aired for Pope’s return after being attacked by Matt Cardona and Mike Knox, with the footage voiced over by Pope’s excellent promo on how uncertain he was when he was being carted out after the attack. This was fantastic.

Mike Knox defeated Pope

The story of this match was quite good, and Pope had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. The announcers commented on Pope’s head injury being a major issue, and it played directly into the finish with him being knocked out. Knox isn’t very good, but this was a perfectly fine match and the story told was a good one.

Pope took it right to Knox and brawled around ringside. When they got back in the ring, Pope hit several splashes in the corner, leaving Knox staggering. But as Pope hit the ropes, Knox nailed him with a crossbody. That didn’t last long though, as Pope hit a clothesline and sent Knox to the floor again before picking up a chair. Knox cut him off and sent him back into the ring.

Knox nailed Pope with a big boot and several elbows before continuing his WWE Big Man Offence with chokes, elbows, and eventually a sidewalk slam. Knox caught Pope diving off the middle rope and hit a uranage. Pope wouldn’t give up and managed to hit a step up enziguri as the crowd cheered him on.

Pope grabbed a roll of tape and started taping up his hand for a knockout punch. Pope hit 3 of them before hitting two elbows off the middle rope and a final one off the top rope. Pope called for the Elijah Express, but Knox got his foot up. He then sent Pope into an exposed turnbuckle before hitting Pope’s head with a hip attack in the corner to knock him out.

Anthony Mayweather defeated Chris Adonis for the NWA National Championship

Good match here from both guys, and Mayweather getting the hometown win to a huge roar from the crowd was absolutely fantastic. They were so loud that it was difficult to hear the announcers, which goes to show how well this worked.

The fans chanted “Crimson” at Mayweather, which begs the question – why not continue to go by Crimson? Adonis was quite arrogant at the start of the match, posing after every bit of offence he got on Mayweather. Adonis tried it one too many times and paid for it by being body slammed by Mayweather. Adonis rolled to the floor and called for a timeout.

Adonis got into the face of several fans who were yelling at him. Mayweather came up behind Adonis and slammed him into the guardrail before high fiving the fan. I liked that. Simple spot, but the crowd went nuts and actually started chanting “Mayweather!” so maybe my assessment of the name change was wrong.

Mayweather threw Adonis into the guardrail right in front of his own kids who popped and cheered. That was great. Mayweather hit hard forearms in the corner on Adonis and the crowd got even louder. Mayweather missed a corner charge, and Adonis clotheslined him in the back of the neck and hit a neckbreaker, starting to weaken him for the Master Lock.

Adonis tried to lock it in over the next several minutes with Mayweather countering several times, but Adonis finally got it in the middle of the ring. Mayweather refused to tap, standing up and pushing off the turnbuckle before rolling Adonis up and pinning him for the win. The crowd was so loud it was difficult to hear the announcers. The crowd chanted Mayweather’s name as he hugged his family.

NWA Power ended with a hype video for Trevor Murdoch and Matt Cardona, which was awesome. It had dark and grim music, painting Cardona as the biggest villain in wrestling, as he claimed he was going to save the NWA. Great way to end the show.

Final Thoughts

I said it last week, but it is true again here – the NWA benefits greatly from these special episodes of Power leading into PPVs. The promotion being on the road with crowds like this make every show better, and this felt like a really great episode that had direction heading into the Crockett Cup and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship match next week between Murdoch and Cardona. Excellent episode.

Judias wins battle royal at NWA 73, earns National title shot

Judias is the next contender for the NWA National title.

All twelve participants for tonight’s battle royal at NWA 73 were in the ring when Judias came out, making his debut for the promotion. He was accompanied to the ring by James Mitchell. The finish had JTG on the apron, attacking Judias and attempting to re-enter the ring. Judias, however, cut him off with a punch off the middle rope, eliminating JTG for the win, earning a shot at Chris Adonis’ NWA National title.

Judias previously wrestled as Murphy in Impact Wrestling between 2010 and 11, teaming with Gunner, who is now Jaxson Ryker in WWE.

The other eleven participants in the match included El Rudo, Jamie Stanley, Marsche Rockett, Slice Boogie, Jeremiah Plunkett, Luke Hawx, Captain Yuma, Rush Freeman, Heartthrob Jaden, Mims, and Sal Rinauro.

Adonis also wrestled on the 73rd Anniversary Show, defeating James Storm to retain the title after he put his feet on the middle rope.

NWA Power results: Adonis vs. Latimer vs. Parrow

Kyle Davis started the show with Strictly Business to talk about the main event triple threat with Parrow, Adonis, and Latimer where the winner would advance to face JTG next week for the National title. They talked about having the advantage in the match, but Kamille criticized Corgan for making the triple threat. Aldis insisted this was Corgan staking the odds against Strictly Business.

–May Valentine was with the War Kings. Crimson talked about his upcoming match with Slice Boogie.

The Mystery Man defeated Mims

There’s something familiar about the Mystery Man, but I can’t put my finger on it. I’m deliberately avoiding looking up who he is to let them tell their story, but I feel like I’ve seen him before. He looked good in this match, despite it being a little slower.

This marked the debut of the masked man we have seen in recent weeks. Early on, he showed some great technique in his wrestling, managing to ground Mims. Right after I wrote that, Tim Storm said it, so we’re on the same page. Mystery Man hit a huge back suplex on Mims and some hard strikes.

Mims was never completely out of it in this match, but Mystery Man was clearly the more experienced grappler with his ability, making Mims pay for every misstep. Mims made a comeback and got a Big Strong Boy chant before hitting a big splash. Mystery Man responded with a sling blade and a Death Valley Driver and scored the pinfall.

–BLKJeez and Jordan Clearwater were with Kyle Davis. Jeez promised that they had a plan for their upcoming match.

Tyrus (with Austin Idol) defeated BLKJeez & Jordan Clearwater

What was this? What? Why?

The match started, and Jeez laid down. He asked Clearwater to lay down, and Clearwater refused. Jeez tried to convince him to do it, and he eventually did. They stayed down, and Tyrus pinned them. What?

–Thunder Rosa & Serena Deeb were with Kyle Davis, and the crowd popped huge for Rosa. Deeb and Rosa had some tension between each other, as Deeb defeated Rosa for the title. Deeb said she wanted her rematch for the title, and Rosa said that she should be the number 1 contender. It looks like we are getting Rosa and Deeb in a singles match soon.

Serena Deeb indicated that she wanted to mentor someone like Kylie Rae, who came out. She talked about how great Deeb and Rosa are, and she was happy to be there with them. Rosa indicated she wanted to mentor. Melina came out, thinking it was her, but she was wrong. It was Skye Blue. This broke down into a brawl. This was a bit of a mess of a segment.

–May Valentine was with Taryn Terrell and Jennacide. Taryn said they were overlooking Jennacide. Terrell called AEW “AWE” and made a weird analogy about rock hard pillows.

Crimson (w/ Jax Dane) defeated Slice Boogie w/ Marche Rocket in a No DQ Grudge Match

This wasn’t a bad match. Crimson is far better than his TNA days, and Boogie is quite good. I’m a bit tired of the “Will they get along?!” storylines in the tag division as we have two of those going now.

Crimson went right after Boogie, beating him around the ring and ringside. As Crimson came back into the ring, Boogie kicked the middle rope to low blow Crimson, and hit an axe kick for a pinfall attempt.

Crimson, using his experience and power, was able to make a bit of a comeback, but Boogie hit a tornado inverted DDT for a 2 count. Boogie grabbed a chair and set it up in the corner between the middle and top rope. Crimson reversed an Irish whip into a suplex on Boogie and sent Boogie to the floor.

Crimson whipped Boogie with his belt around ringside. Boogie tried for a low blow, but Crimson hit a Death Valley Driver. He stopped the pinfall and went for the chair. Dane told him he didn’t need the chair, and he wasn’t happy with it, but Crimson listened and hit a Death Valley Driver for the pinfall.

–Aron Stevens and Trevor Murdoch were on commentary for this match, as they were both NWA National Champions. Apparently, Stevens broke Velvet Sky’s chair and was left near the floor. It was a comedy bit, but it made me laugh.

NWA National Title qualifier: Chris Adonis defeated Thom Latimer and Parrow

Decent main event here, with the story of the match being Latimer and Adonis both wanting to win, but especially making sure that Parrow didn’t win. Parrow looked like a beast in the match, but he couldn’t overcome the odds, and in the end, Adonis used his brain to win. To be fair, he tricked Bram, so that doesn’t sound too difficult.

Adonis and Latimer spent the early parts of the match double teaming Parrow, sending him to the floor after a bit, and deciding to wrestle each other fair and square to see who the better man was, but they were giving Parrow time to recover.

Every time Parrow came back into the match, Latimer and Adonis would send him back to the floor. Problems between Adonis and Latimer began to escalate when Latimer tried to pin Parrow and Adonis broke it up. Parrow took advantage of this and started throwing both men around. He hit the Parrow Driver on Adonis, but Latimer broke it up.

Parrow made Latimer pay with a powerbomb for a two count. Strictly Business hit a double superplex on Parrow, and then when Latimer went up top for a moonsault, Adonis stole the pin by pinning Parrow. Latimer was angry, but Adonis promised that Latimer would get the first shot.

Adonis moves on to face JTG next week for the National title!

Final Thoughts:

Solid, if unspectacular, episode of NWA Power this week. The National title was the main storyline, and Aron Stevens was great on commentary in particular, selling the importance of the match and the history of the wrestlers involved.

I’m looking forward to Adonis against JTG next week, but I also want to see the next chapter in Murdoch’s story start to move forward. Hopefully, we’ll see that addressed a bit more. It’s clear that Thunder Rosa is, by far, their biggest star. She got a huge pop from the studio audience, and having them back shows her time in AEW is also quite effective in getting her over.

The women’s division clearly has a few aces up their sleeve over the next few months, as even though the angle with them tonight was a bit poorly executed (especially when Melina arrived), there are still some very interesting matches that were set up.

NWA Power results: New National Champion crowned

Nick Aldis opened the show, and said he wanted to discuss an affliction he has been dealing with for a long time – all he knows how to do is win. He doesn’t know how to do anything else, pointing out that he beat Aron Stevens at Back for the Attack, and how Strictly Business won last week too.

Davis asked if Adonis was joining Strictly Business, and Aldis said that they were getting ahead of themselves. As they were talking, Trevor Murdoch came out and confronted Aldis for teaming with him last week after condemning him in the opening promo. Murdoch said that he was in a hospital for a week because of Adonis, and he couldn’t collect pay for his family.

Murdoch demanded another match with Adonis that is no DQ, no countout, and he’ll put the NWA National title on the line. Aldis was offended that Murdoch cut him off, and said the last thing he wants to do if he is worried about missing work is to cross him.

Aldis then reminded him of the number one rule that Harley Race taught them both – never turn your back on your opponent. Chris Adonis came out and attacked Murdoch and beat him down, while Aldis looked on with joy. Referees came out to break it up, and a doctor came out to check on Murdoch.

Fantastic opening segment. Murdoch was able to walk out, but he was clearly hurt again, making this feud even more personal.

**********

Aron Stevens and Kratos were backstage with May Valentine. Stevens talked about Joseph Hudson again, and how he changed his life. Sal Rinauro came onto the screen and asked for a World Tag Team title shot, and Stevens agreed, but said that he better be prepared, as this is the NWA.

Sliced Boogie defeated Jeremiah Plunkett

Good squash match here that further got Sliced Boogie over.

Boogie kept control for most of the match, except for a brief moment with a heat segment from Plunkett. Boogie hit a nice springboard back elbow, but missed a middle rope elbow that allowed Plunkett to get the heat. Plunkett hit a spinebuster for a two count, and then locked in a sleeper on Boogie.

Boogie got out with a back suplex, and nailed Plunkett with a clothesline and a Gotch piledriver (the Deadass Driver) for the pinfall.

**********

Tyrus  (with Austin Idol) defeated Matthew Mims

The wrong guy won this match, as Tyrus worked over Mims with his horrible offense.

Tyrus caught Mims on a crossbody and slammed him before hitting an elbow and locking on the classic NERVE HOLD~! Mims got out and hit a few headbutts to shake Tyrus. Tyrus hit an exploder and a terrible chokeslam for the pinfall.

**********

Fred Rosser and Pope were at the podium. Rosser talked about how Pope was not ready for him because he was taking the TV title. Pope said that he knew Rosser for a long time, and remembered Rosser asking him for advice backstage at shows, which Rosser said off mic that “that was then, this is now”. They formally announced the match as the main event for next week. Great stuff.

**********

Thunder Rosa & Alex Gracia defeated Skye Blue and Jennacide by disqualification

This match was billed as a “Ladies Celebration Match” as Rosa brought in some young talent to the NWA to give them a chance. Blue, Jennacide, and Gracia were all green, but Rosa went out of her way to try and make them all look good.

Skye Blue started the match with Rosa. Blue was clearly green, but there is something there. Rosa rolled with her for some submissions back and forth, staying on top the whole time. Rosa tagged Gracia in, who hit a weak chop on Blue, but Rosa tagged back in and hit one of her own that was brutal.

Rosa and Gracia exchanged quick tags back and forth to keep the advantage. Jennacide was extremely green, but has a unique look and was the biggest woman in the match. She did power moves, including doing some squats while holding Gracia up for a slam. Rosa got the hot tag, but ate a spear from Kamille who ran out for the DQ.

Melina, who was on commentary, came over the ring and started yelling at Kamille. Rosa pulled her away, and as Kamille turned around she came face to face with Jennacide. Both of them were the same size.

**********

Nick Aldis was on commentary for the main event. Joe Galli wanted to address something before the match: would Tim Storm wrestle again? The answer was yes, as Storm is not done yet, but he didn’t want to take away from Aldis as champion and made no excuses – Aldis beat him for the title, even if he doesn’t like how Aldis acts.

Aldis gave a warning to Storm, saying that he was glad that he hadn’t retired, but that he needed to watch his mouth about him and Strictly Business. Looks like we might be getting Aldis and Storm one more time down the line, which I am perfectly fine with.

No DQ: Chris Adonis defeated Trevor Murdoch to win the NWA National title

The story of the match was that Murdoch had an injured neck, so while he was tough, he had little chance against the uninjured Adonis. It was a fast match, but told a great story.

Murdoch came out wearing a neck brace, which Aldis asked if it were wise for him to wrestle with that on. Adonis slammed Murdoch on the floor, as Aldis talked about how Murdoch shouldn’t be out there due to the injury, even though he played a role in it happening.

Adonis worked over the neck for the next few minutes, locked on the Masterlock and hit a full nelson slam. Adonis then picked him up and locked on the Masterlock again, and Murdoch passed out, becoming the new champion via ref stoppage.

Aldis said that this made Adonis an associate of Strictly Business, and that he wanted to celebrate the success of Adonis. Tim Storm looked on in disgust as the show closed.

Final Thoughts:

Really solid episode of NWA Power here, with lots of storylines being hinted at for the future. The one that compels me the most is the real tension we can see between Tim Storm and Nick Aldis. It’s clear Storm is disgusted by the heelish actions of Aldis, but it hasn’t gotten to the point of where he is willing to fight.

I think this is a classic slow burn, where we will see Tim Storm leave the announce desk to take on Strictly Business eventually, possibly ending with Nick Aldis and Tim Storm wrestling for the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship one last time. I loved this.

I also loved how they’re positioning Thunder Rosa as someone that wants to give new talent a shot on every show. She’s a wonderful babyface, in contrast to Kamille, who selfishly wants all the attention on her.

Lots of good stuff on this episode with future feuds being developed. I’m excited for what the NWA has in store for us down the line.

Impact Wrestling results: The return of the Turkey Suit

Previously: Impact Global Champion Eli Drake successfully defended his title against Petey Williams.

Tonight: It’s a special Thanksgiving edition of Impact, featuring the return of the Turkey Suit. The main event will be a five-on-five tag team match in Eli Drake’s Gravy Train Turkey Trot (aka The Turkey Bowl).

 Show Recap —

 – In anticipation of tonight’s main event, Jeremy Borash said they’ll be looking back at past Turkey Bowl matches.

Rhyno defeated Alex Shelley and Sheik Adbul Bashir from Turkey Bowl 2008

Shelley and Bashir worked together to beat down Rhyno. But each time one of them went for the pin, the other would pull him off. They argued and ended up fighting each other. Rhyno took the chance to hit the Gore on Shelley for the win.

After the match, Mick Foley came down to the ring when Shelley refused to put on the Turkey Suit. Foley threatened to fire Shelley unless he put it on.

– In the back, Borash conducted the random draw for the participants in the main event. Chef Robert Irvine cooked up a feast for JB and the others.

– Throughout the night, members of the roster revealed their best Thanksgiving memory and said what they’re thankful for.

– Borash, Eli Drake, and Chris Adonis drew the names for the Turkey Bowl match. This went on for several segments. Adonis was upset after being drawn as the team captain, and Drake changed the name of the match to Eli Drake’s Gravy Train Turkey Trot.

Team one: Eddie Edwards, Allie, Richard Justice, Fallah Baah & Garza Jr. Team two: Chris Adonis, El Hijo Del Fantasma, Caleb Konley, KM & Laurel Van Ness

Eric Young defeated Robbie E (w/ Robbie T) from Turkey Bowl 2011

Young had the advantage and started to do the chicken dance. Referee Rudy Charles joined in on the dancing and missed Robbie using a foreign object to score the pin. Charles found the object and restarted the match, then Young won with a piledriver.

Robbie E was unconscious following the match, so Young chose Robbie T to wear the suit instead.

Robbie E defeated Grado from Turkey Bowl 2016

Grado attempted a sunset flip, but Robbie dropped down to score the pin. Grado put on the suit after and started dancing.

Eddie Edwards, Allie, Richard Justice, Fallah Baah & Garza Jr. defeated Chris Adonis (w/ Eli Drake), El Hijo Del Fantasma, Caleb Konley, Laurel Van Ness & KM

The member of the losing team that gets pinned will be forced to wear the Turkey Suit. Before the match, each team sat at a table and ate a turkey dinner. They also had to take an oath and swore to put on the suit if they are the one that gets pinned.

Baah missed a charge in the corner and the heels took over. He recovered and tagged in Garza, but the heels gained the advantage again and isolated him. Edwards got the hot tag and ran wild.

The match broke down and a brawl broke out. Justice attempted a dive before the other guys all caught him. Allie then dove off the top turnbuckle onto all of them.

The finish came when Adonis attempted the Adonis Lock and Edwards rolled through to score the win.

Adonis refused to put on the suit, with Drake wanting to do a random draw to pick someone else. Adonis tried to leave, but security wouldn’t let him.

Borash announced that if Adonis doesn’t put the suit on Drake has to instead. Eventually, Adonis put the suit on and got in Allie’s face because she was laughing.

This resulted in everyone getting into a huge food fight at ringside. Adonis tried to pie Edwards, but he moved and Drake got a face full of pie instead.

– Eli Drake and Chris Adonis made their way to the ring to celebrate Drake’s championship win. He discussed his title victory and that it took him 14 years to get to where he is.

Johnny Impact interrupted the new champ and made his way to the ring. Impact mentioned that he’s the AAA Mega World Champion, but he said that he wants Drake’s title too. This brought out former World Champion Eddie Edwards.

Edwards respects Impact being AAA Champion, but this is GFW. Edwards said he wants a shot at the championship as well. Jim Cornette came out and announced the tag team main event. Whoever scores the pin in the main event gets a future title shot. If Drake or Adonis gets the win, Drake doesn’t have to defend the title against either guy.

– In the back, Allie introduced herself to Taryn Terrell. Allie wanted to know why Terrell was so mean to Gail Kim last week. Terrell asked Allie to give Kim a message and beat her down.

OVE defeated Fallah Bahh & Mario Bokara

OVE controlled the early part of the match by keeping Bokara on their side of the ring. The heels had the brief advantage, but OVE made a quick comeback to win the match. During the match, LAX was shown watching in the back.

– In Cornette’s office, Cornette warned Moose that he might run into Bobby Lashley at AAA’s Triplemania. Ethan Carter III came in and was upset that he’s not on Triplemania. Cornette and Moose did Road Dogg’s “Oh you didn’t know?” quote to end the segment.

Petey Williams defeated Caleb Konley (w/ Trevor Lee)

Konley jumped Williams to start things off. Williams gained the advantage, then Lee distracted him and allowed Konley to take over. Williams took out Lee with a hurricanrana to the floor and hit the Canadian Destroyer on Konley for the win. Lee jumped Williams, but Sonjay Dutt ran out for the save.

Storm connected with the Last Call, but Konnan had the referee distracted. Ortiz nailed Storm with the tag team title belt and Low Ki connected with the Warrior’s Way for the victory.

– In the back, Allie nursed her injury from Taryn Terrell’s attack earlier. She was explaining to Braxton Sutter what happened when Garza Jr. approached to see if she’s okay. Sutter got upset at Garza Jr. and told him to leave.

Eli Drake & Chris Adonis defeated Johnny Impact & Eddie Edwards

The faces were in control early as Edwards hit a suicide dive to Drake and Impact dove onto Adonis. The heels then took over and isolated Impact on their side of the ring.

Edwards got the tag and took on both heels. He climbed to the top, but Adonis held his leg and Drake caught him with a slam for a near fall. The heels worked over Edwards and cut him off from tagging Impact.

Impact finally got the hot tag and ran wild. He connected with the Thursday Night Delight for a two count. Edwards got the blind tag, but  Drake hit the Gravy Train for the win.
