**********

It is the final battle of the year, live from the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC as we kick off the appropriately named FINAL BATTLE 2024! Starting with ZERO HOUR!

The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) defeated The Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds w/Evil Uno)

Kicking off Zero Hour is a match with a little bit of a story to it. A couple of weeks ago, Gibson and Drake noticed that some extras were eating catering before they got a chance to. That resulted in them beating up said extras. John Siver of the Dark Order saw this and didn’t like it, so he stole the Vet’s trademark scarves in retaliation. Then there was an 8-man tag match and now we’re here (Hey, I said it was a “little bit” of a story).

Reynolds and Drake started things off with a standard tie up, but it wasn’t long before Gibson asked for a tag and was granted it. He took the fight to Reynolds, but it Silver quickly tagged in. What Silver lacks in speed he makes up for in strength. Both he and Gibson were able to go toe to toe, because what they both lack in hair, they make up for in talent!

Silver’s strategy seemed to be working for a submission, which was and interesting tactic against two very good technical wrestlers. Drake dragged him to the top rope but Silver flipped things and executed a hurricanrana, opening up hot tags for both Reynolds and Gibson. They flew at each other until Reynolds stacked Gibson up with a powerbomb.

The Dark Order took over with a Reynolds and Silver hitting a spiked spear/suplex on Drake the outside. The Vets followed that a few minutes later with a standing Doomsday device on Reynolds. At this point, Uno got involved (waving papers like the late Brodie Lee). Gibson grabbed the papers and tore them up, distracting everyone enough to allow Silver and Reynolds to land a fully of suplexes, stunners and double kicks on Drake, who was pulled outside at 2 by Gibson.

Silver then seemed to have pulled a hamstring which the Vets took and vantage of to hit a High/Low to get a pin and take the win. No scarves were hurt in this match.

Hanako defeated Harley Cameron

Cameron, a former Outcast, has been hanging around ROH sporadically over the last few months, usually to passive-aggressively take shots at Rachel Ellering for some reason. Hanako is a joshi star in the Stardom promotion and she and her tag partner Maika were runners up in the Goddesses of Stardom Tag League 2024 Final tournament this year.

Cameron started the match by doing some warmup pushups. The very-tall-for-a-Joshi-star Hanako didn’t let it go for long though, using her strength and size to whip Cameron into the ropes for a big shoulder block. Cameron tried to lift Hanako up, but did not have the power. Switching tactics, Cameron punched her in the back instead.

Hanako landed a big stalling suplex to keep momentum in her favour. Cameron was clearly outmatched here and ate strike after strike for her efforts. Cameron lured Hanako to the outside and duped her into running into the steel ring steps. That gave Cameron an opening to finally get some offence in.

Hanako battled back, hanging Cameron up in a Tree of Woe. Cameron countered it though and hit a Backstabber and a shining wizard. Cameron tried a splash from the top rope but Hanako caught her mid air and Torture Rack Slammed her to get the pin.

The Undisputed Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven) defeated The Infantry (Shawn Dean and Carlie Bravo w/Trish Adora & Shane Taylor)

Since joining up with Shane Taylor Promotions a few weeks ago, the Infantry have shown a newfound aggressive streak and certain, shall we say, morally casual attitude. The Undisputed Kingdom started the year as ROH Tag Team Champions and since then have made impacts elsewhere, most notably Matt Taven’s quest to become the ROH Pure Champion.

Bravo and Dean jumped Taven and Bennett as they approached the ring, getting the upper hand before the bell. They put Bennett into the barricade and then Taven dove over the top rope to nail both Bravo and Dean. Then the match started, for reals, with Bennett and Bravo as legal.

The Infantry were agressive in this match, with Dean hitting a brutal cutter on Taven on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!). Taven and Bennett were separated early and Taven found himself in the middle of a bunch of double teams in the Infantry’s corner. Bravo caused a distraction and Taylor punched Taven square in the face behind the ref’s back.

The Kingdom for their part were trying to find something, anything, to throw at their (seemingly four) opponents. In the end though it was good ol’ kicks to the face that got a hot tag to Bennett who cleaned house and unloaded a series of chops on Dean, and then Bravo. Bennett then used Dean as a weapon, Spiccoli Driver-ing him onto his partner Bravo.

A hot tag to Taven brought him in fresh to clear the Infantry out of the ring with kicks. Bravo was left in the ring to take a Spiccoli Driver and Just the Tip from the Kingdom, but it was only worth a two count. Taylor jumped up on the ring apron to cause a distraction so Adora could hit Taven and set up Bennett for a Boot Camp. But this too was only, uh, two.

Taven wrapped Dean around the ring post, leaving Bravo open for a Rockstar Supernova and a pin from Bennett to get the Undisupted Kingdom the win.

Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona) defeated LEEJ (Lee Johnson and EJ Nduka)

The horribly named LEEJ (Lee Johnson and EJ Nduka) take on the Gates of Agony here in what is kind of a grudge match? Johnson has had singles matches against Liona (lost) and Kaun (won) with Nduka as his backup in case things got out of hand. Liona in particular has it out for Johnson and stopped Kaun from showing respect to him on the last episode of ROH On Honorclub.

Johnson and Liona kicked things off with Johnson having Liona a little more scouted this time and fed him all the speed. Liona was taken aback, allowing Nduka to tag in and assault, I mean, isolate him in the corner. Johnson tagged in and Liona got him with a massive backbreaker on the top turnbuckle, followed up by a devastating dropkick and suplex on the outside.

It was then the Gates’ turn to isolate, dragging Johnson to their corner for repeated cannonballs, chops and stomps. Johnson finally got a tag to Nduka and he faced off against Liona, tow big men swinging big arms in a violent manner until Nduka got Liona off his feet with a big Lariat, followed by a Spear.

Liona got Nduka off his feet and they stomped him in the corner. All four men entered the ring and started hitting finishers. Finally Nduka climbed to the top of the ringpost and hit a massive moonsault on Kaun for a two count. Kaun dragged Nduka outside and Liona drove his head into the steel steps with his knee. Kaun caught Johnson and Slammed him on the same steps.

Kaun dragged Johnson back into the ring and hit two huge double powerbombs on him to get the victory.

After the match, The Gates tried to show respect, but LEEJ beat them down!

And now…. Final Battle! Kicking things off is what’s sure to be a banger:

Atlantis Jr defeated Mansoor (w/ Mason Madden)

The Story So Far:  There isn’t one! Mansoor is one half of the crowd-favourite MxM Collection and Atlantis Jr is a CMLL star and former ROH TV Champion. These guys are both excellent in the ring though and have some history.

Tips were touched and the match started with the two similarly sized men wrestling until Mansoor took Atlantis down with a quick rollup. From there, Mansoor controlled the match and the posing. He had a takedown and pose for everything Atlantis threw at him. This earned his respect and the two men shook hands. Really.

Then it was Atlantis’ turn for some offence getting a few quick two counts before putting Mansoor in a Figure-4-like knee hold. Madden got involved, grabbing Atlantis and pulling him to the floor to pose on the ring apron (the sexiest part of the ring!). Mansoor dragged Atlantis back in for a series of suplexes.

Mansoor went for Atlantis’ mask but couldn’t get it off. Atlantis tried to fight out of it, but a big kick put him back down. Atlantis got his second wind and hit a series of backbreakers on Mansoor. Atlantis hit a really impressive trap slam for a two count and then went to the top rope. Madden distracted him, yelling “booga booga booga.” Really.

Mansoor hit a really hard looking slam in the corner that dropped Atlantis square on the head. From there, the two battled back and forth until Atlantis went for a splash, but Mansoor got his knee up. Mansoor played hurt, giving Madden a chance to get involved, slamming Atlantis in the ring. Madden then posed, but who should appear from under the ring?

DANHAUSEN!

He punched Madden in the junk while Atlantis tossed Mansoor out of the ring. He dove over the top rope onto Madden and Mansoor. Then, he dragged Mansoor back in the ring and hit a big splash to get the pin and the win.

After the match, Madden head butted Atlantis in the ring, beating him up until interrupted by Danhausen. He cursed Madden and poured teeth in his mouth. Danhausen then raised Atlantis’ hand as Madden slunk away.

-Backstage the Nueve, Chris Jericho was interviewed, but the first part was cut off due to technical audio issues. When it was resolved though, Jericho declared New York as his home town and listed a bunch of purposely wrong facts about New York and it’s local sports teams. It was delightfully insulting. He promised to leave the “Grand Apple” as still ROH Champion.

Katsuyori Shibata defeated Tommy Billington

The Story So Far: Tommy Billington is the nephew of the legendary Dynamite Kid. Dynamite was one of the best wrestlers to ever lace them up, so it makes sense that his son is fighting Shibata, a guy who calls himself “The Wrestler.” Yeah, I know that’s a stretch to connect, but it’s really all the reasoning I’ve got for this one. All I know is that this is going to be a very, very good match.

A tie up off the top led to some spectacular technical chain wrestling. Applause broke out. Billington got a solid headlock on Shibata and ground him down to the mat. Shibata literally did a headstand to break a hold and slap an ankle lock on Billington. Billington reversed it and sent Shibata through the ropes, following it up with a dive onto Shibata on the outside.

Back in the ring, Shibata locked in a figure four on Billington in the center of the ring. Billington turned it over, putting the pressure back on Shibata. The two rolled back and forth a few times until a rope break. They then traded suplexes, ending with Shibata planting Billington with a leg sweep.

Shibata got Billington in a triangle choke while Ian Riccaboni shouted Canadian city names. Billington managed to get to the ropes, breaking the hold and sending Shibata to the mat with a clothesline. Billington went to the top rope and hit a huge DDT from the top rope! Shibata bounced back though and locked in a sleeper hold until Billington was forced to tap.

An excellent, excellent match though!

Jay Lethal (w/Karen Jarrett and Sanjay Dutt) defeated QT Marshall (w/Aaron Solo)

The Story So Far: QT Marshall and Jay Lethal were both big deals in ROH at one time or another. Lethal returned to ROH a few weeks ago looking to enter the title picture. For some reason, Marshall took great offense to this, thinking that Lethal should be wrestling him if he wants fame and glory. So… now they’re going to fight. But first, duelling awesome Macho Man entrances for both.

The match exploded to a start with Lethal going high early and knocking Marshall out of the ring. Marshall lured Lethal out and drove him into the barricade before tossing him back in. Lethal seemed to bounce back out with a suicide dive though.

Back in the ring, Marshal landed a tornado DDT but Lethal fought back and the two had a flurry of chain wrestling. Marshall bounced Lethal’s head off the top rope and that slowed things down considerably. Marshall tried to get the upper hand, but Lethal was ready for it and the two exchanged blows until Lethal hit a neckbreaker. He followed that up with a figure four leglock.

Marshall tried a quick rollup but no dice as Lethal resonded with a big bang. Lethal climbed to the top rope but was knocked off by Solo. Solo started harassing the Karen Jarrett and suddenly, music hit. Jeff Jarrett stomped down to the ring and hit him with a guitar.

Back in the ring, Marshall hit Lethal with the CrossRhodes of all things, but it only got a two count. He went for a super diamong cutter, but Lethal dodged it and led him into a cutter off the ropes. Lethal missed a Lethal Injection, and Marshall tried one of his own in response.

The two traded forearms and near falls until Lethal managed to land a picture perfect pair of Lethal Injections to get the win.

For a long time, I’ve been wondering about the point of this match and now it is clear: it was to allow a thousand Macho Man impressions to ring out in one glorious Hammerstein Ballroom chorus!

ROH Women’s World TV Championship: Red Velvet (c ) defeated Leyla Hirsch

The Story So Far: These are two women who are very good at very violent wrestling and they do not like each other. Velvet has been the ROH Women’s TV Champion since Death Before Dishonor when she won it from Billie Starkz. Velvet has successfully defended it against Diamante twice, once in a brutal street fight. Now she takes on Hirsch who got hurt in a Texas Death Match against the aforementioned Diamante, and was out for the latter half of the year, returning a few weeks ago.

Velvet was rapped to the ring by excellent MC, Red, and then she and Hirsch locked up. Velvet had a height advantage on Hirsch, but Hirsch hit hard and hit a lot. Her strength more than evened the odds as she sent Velvet to the mat and attempt an armbar. Velvet squirmed away though, taking a second to reset.

Velvet came out swinging though, sending Hirsch to the corner for some big stomps. Hirsch fought back though, suplexing Velvet. This managed to make Velvet mad though and she shot up and knocked Hirsch to the mat. Hirsch stomped Velvet’s arm in retaliation and flipped her into the turnbuckles.

Hirsch landed a swingout german suplex from the top rope on Velvet, but it only got a two count. Velvet grabbed at her shoulder and she and Hirsch rose, trading open handed slaps. Hirsch caught Velvet though and got her up for a power bomb followed by a springboard moonsault and then good ol’ kick in the arm.

Hirsch worked the arm while Velvet screamed in pain. Hirsch landed a shining wizard but got cocky on the pin and only got a two. Hirsch then locked an armbar on Velvet’s injured arm. Velvet rose and turned it into a powerbomb to get Hirsch off her. Velvet landed a solid right hand on Hirsch, seemingly knocking her cold. Velvet went for Mama’s Kitchen, but Hirsch was playing possum and fought out of it.

Velvet then dove under the ring and grabbed a spare turnbuckle. The ref rook it away from her, and went to put it to the side. Velvet produced a hidden wrench while his back was turned and hit Hirsch with it, knocking her out and allowing Velvet to get the pin and retain the ROH Women’s TV Title.

ROH Pure Championship Open Challenge: Lee Moriarty (c ) vs ????

The Story So Far: Lee Moriarty has been ROH Pure Champion since July, taking the title from Wheeler Yuta at Death Before Dishonor. He’s successfully defended it three times against the likes of Angelico, Preston Vance and most recently, Matt Taven. Now he wants to take on the “best of the best” and has issued an open challenge.

If this is your first rodeo, a Pure Rules match has a 30-minute time limit. Each competitor gets three rope breaks and one closed fist warning. After that they can be disqualified. Any outside interference is a DQ and can cause a title change. If there is no clear winner by pinfall or submission by the time limit the match will be awarded based on points by a panel of judges. Fun Fact: this has never happened to my knowledge (I didn’t look very hard though). Tonight the judges are: Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels and Rocky Romero.

Shane Taylor accompanied Moriarty to the ring and who is the brave soul answering the Open Challenge? Why none other than legendary former ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness!

Moriarty was shocked but pleased to see one of the greatest Pure Champions in ROH history. In fact it was McGuinness that retired the original version of the title before it was revived a few years ago. McGuinness and Moriarty have a long history too as training partners and opponents. This is honestly way better than anyone that had been speculated about!

McGuinness pulled out a Mic and suggested they do this under the “old” Pure title rules. Taylor got a mic and ran down McGuiness as old news. McGuiness goaded Taylor and Moriarty in a very non PG way. Moriarty asked Taylor to let him do this the old way and Taylor reluctantly agreed. So, what are the “old” rules?

No Judges (See? Told you), wins are gotten by pinfall or submission. Three rope breaks are allowed and zero closed fists. Simple, no?

The match started with back and forth wristlocks, which in any other match would be boring, but in a Pure Match they are impossible to look away from. At 2:03, Moriarty accidentally used a rope break when McGuiness got him too close to it. This is a vintage McGuinness strategy.

At 2:54, McGuinness took a shot from Moriarty that the ref deemed a closed fist and docked Moriarty a rope break. That incensed Taylor who demanded a second official to keep the other one honest. A ref came to the ring and the match resumed with duelling waistlocks and open handed palm strikes.

McGuinness began working Moriarty’s elbow and shoulder, pushing him closer and closer to using that third rope break. Moriarty reversed it into a Border City Stretch at 5:40, causing McGuinness to use a rope break. Taylor lured McGuinness to the outside and Moriarty tried to jump him, but McGuinness moved, leading to Moriarty hitting Taylor. The ref counted and Moriarty beat the count by one second, diving back into the ring.

Moriarty delivered a huge Eurpoean uppercut to McGuinness and went up to the turnbuckle. McGuinness popped up and hit a London Bridge to get a two count. The two traded pinning attempts until Moriarty locked in a second Border City Stretch, forcing rope break #2 for McGuinness at 9:56.

Moriarty locked in a third Border City Stretch and McGuinness needed to use his final rope break at 10:44. From here on out, there would be no saving McGuinness on the ropes. Speaking of, Moriarty used the rope as leverage in a pinning attempt, but the second ref caught him. McGuinness hit Moriarty with a big lariat, but he couldn’t get a three count on the champion.

McGuinness hit another London Bridge and the Ref counted to three, but the second official saw Moriarty’s foot on the rope and since he had one rope break left, the pin didn’t count. That meant that all rope breaks had been exhausted as the two men traded blows in the center of the ring.

The time hit 15:09 as Moriarty tried a quick pin attempt that McGuinness kicked out of. Yet another Border City Stretch was applied, but McGuinness had no more rope breaks. He struggled until he could flip the hold. Moriarty hit a massive DDT, but again only got a two count. Back to the Border City Stretch and Moriarty used the ropes (which was now legal) as leverage and McGuinness was forced to tap out.

The crowd and Moriarty gave McGuinness his flowers, the champion raising the challenger’s hand.

ROH Tag Team Championship Texas Bull Rope Match: The Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) (c ) defeated The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch)

The Story So Far:  Ok, I’ll try to tell this story as succinctly as possible. Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes won the ROH Tag titles from the Undisputed Kingdom back in August. Since then they’ve defeated the Dark Order, a couple of low-tier teams and the Undisputed Kindom in a Bunkhouse Brawl Match. The Righteous, Dutch and Vincent, decided they were done just hurting people and want some gold to go with said hurting. They turned their attention to Rhodes and Guevara (now going by the name Sons of Texas). Dutch was trained in part by Rhodes’ father, the incomparable Dusty Rhodes and has a special bullrope and cowbell that the American Dream gifted him.

Dutch has used that to get under Rhodes’ skin, saying the Dusty wished he was his sin instead of Dustin! The two teams have jumped each other in the back, played mind games and on the last episode of ROH on Honorclub, The Righteous jumped Rhodes at his training facility and left him in a pool of his own blood. This is a bitter, bitter feud that will be settled in a double Bull Rope match which means, essentially there are no rules and they will be linked to each other by the wrist by a bullrope.

Before the ropes could be applied though, Rhodes and Guevara attacked Dutch and Vincent, battling in, out and around the ring with the Righteous getting the better result. They thew Rhodes and Guevara back in the ring as the ref tried to attach the ropes. Vincent and Dutch kicked those ropes away and the brawl continued.

Guevara and Rhodes got the advantage and beat down Dutch and Vincent. They grabbed the ropes and Rhodes attached himself to Dutch, and Guevara tied himself to Vincent. The bell rang and the “match” “officially” “began.”

Rhodes and Guevara set the Righteous up on opposite corners and hit tandem Shattered Dreams. The Righteous used the bells on the ropes to re-arrange Rhodes and Guevara’s faces. The ropes at this point were becoming a bit of an issue as well. The pairs kept getting tangled with each other in the ring. So Rhodes, brought Dutch to the outside and hit him with a chair. Meanwhile, in the ring, Vincent used his rope to wrench Guevara’s arm.

Rhodes and Dutch fought up the ramp with Rhodes using the bell to punish Dutch. Dutch responded with a Bossman slam, knocking the wind out of him. Dutch then produced a table covered in barbed wire. He dragged the table and Rhodes to ringside and dragged him to the top of the ringpost. Rhodes blocked it though and sent Ditch flying backwards through his own barbed wire table!

The two pairs were close to each other on the outside, so Vincent knocked Rhodes silly. That fired up Guevara, but Vincent used the rope to send him into the ring post and hit an Orange Sunshine. Vincent then pulled a pair of scissors from under the ring and cut himself out of the bullrope. Now loose, and with Guevara out, Vincent used the rope to choke Rhodes against the ring post.

Rhodes held on until his arms went limp and just before the ref called the match, Guevara jumped in and took out Vincent. Guevara hit a cutter off the barricade on Vincent and went under the ring. He brought out a table (no barbed wire on this one) and set it up. He then went back for a ladder and set it up next to the table. Guevara placed Vincent on the table via kick to the face and climbed the ladder.

Guevara paused at the top of the ladder and then launched himself down onto Vincent, but Guevara took too much time and Vincent rolled off the table, sending Guevara plummeting through it. Vincent then faced off against Rhodes in the middle of the ring. Rhodes had him on his heels, but was still tied to Dutch, hampering his movements. Dustin went to remedy this and Dutch smashed the cowbell over his head.

Vincent and Dutch wailed on Rhodes in the ring while the crowd booed. Rhodes wouldn’t quit though and took shots from both until Vincent hit Orange Sunshine. The ref began to count and Guevera popped up and broke up the pin. Guevara hit a cutter on Dutch and sent Vincent to the outside.

Rhodes and Dutch faced off in the ring with Rhodes hitting the biggest Texas Destroyer in the Lone Star State. Guevara slipped him the Rhodes Family Cowbell and an emotional Rhodes pointed to the sky in a touching gesture. Then he smashed Dutch in the face with the bell and got the pin to retain the titles for his team.

ROH World TV Championship Survival of The Fittest Match: Komander defeated Brian Cage (c ), AR Fox, Blake Christian, Willie Mack and Mark Davis

The Story So Far: Brian Cage is the ROH World TV Champion. That’s it. He won the belt from Atlantis Jr on the Zero Hour of AEW Wrestledream 2024 and don’t think about why ROH titles change hands on non-ROH shosw too hard, it will hurt. Speaking of hurt, Cage has successfully defended the title against AR Fox while working a double as part of the Callis Family in AEW and ROH. Now he must defend against five other worthy competitors in Fox, Komander, Mack, Davis and for some reason Blake Christian. Christian is totally worthy as well, but I don’t really understand how he got here.

Cage entered last as the Champion is known to do and did so in his Callis Family black gear. A shame as Cage’s ring attire has been awesome in the past, but this new subdued Cage is equally scary. The bell rang and immediately, Christian dragged Komander out of the ring and someone shoved Mack. they didn’t show who, but he flew through the ropes none the less.

After the opening brawl, Cage and Davis faced off. Davis seems to be a cross between JBL and what Cage would look like if he didn’t work out. He tossed Cage out of the ring, just in time for Mack to jump back in. The always underestimated-ly fast Mack sent Davis out of the ring with a high knee. Fox jumped in then and immediately jumped back out onto Christian, then inand out again onto Cage and Mack. Then just a plain ol’ kick to Komander as he pulled him back in the ring.

Komander did his superhero thing which confused the heck out of Fox. Komander threw him out of the ring with in what was rapidly becoming a reverse-battle-royal of a match. Komander went high and tried a 450, but Fox was gone and Christian was in the ring to catch him. As was becoming a theme, Christian then dove back out of the ring.

In the ring, Cage fought off Davis, Fox and Komander. He then suplexed Komander and Fox AT THE SAME TIME. Grabbing Komander, Cage lifted him above his head with only one hand! In case it isn’t obvious, Cage is very strong. Mack got into the ring and stacked Fox and Komander on his shoulders for a fall away slam x2. He then delivered a standing moonsault to Davis and Cage came back in to get a stunner. Fox, Davis and Christian thought that looked fun, so they both took a stunner each from Mack. Komander got a special Super Stunner, and then Cage jumped back in and pinned Mack.

It was here that we discovered that this was an Elimination match.

Fox took advantage and DDT’d both Cage and Davis. He then hit a stunner on Christian followed by a sit-down Powerbomb. Fox DDT’d Komander on the ring apron and then did a cannonball flip onto the crowd gathering outside the ring. Fox hit a spanish fly and a 450 on Komander but it was only a 2-count. Cage then got involved and powerbombed Fox from the top rope to pin him for elimination.

Davis and Cage faced off next, with big fists being thrown at big heads. Unfortunately, Christian got too close and caught a punch in the face for his trouble. Davis and Cage traded about a dozen German suplexes and Komander hit a high flying move on Davis, sending him to the outside. Komander almost eliminated Cage, but Cage caught him midair and slammed him. Christian tried to use the distraction to roll up the champion and Cage threw him from the ring.

Davis took control with a big lariat to Cage followed by a piledriver. Davis then pinned Cage, eliminating him and guaranteeing a new ROH TV Champion! Christian took advantage of the shock and eliminated Davis with a rollup, leaving Komander and Christian as the final two!

Komander went high with a big crossbody and Christian returned a kick for it. The two battled in the ring, trading suplexes and high flying move attempts. Christian dropkicked Komander from the top rope, and locked in a half-surfboard to jam Komander’s knees into the mat. Komander slithered around Christian and locked in an abdominal stretch, but Christian backed him into the turnbuckle.

Komander went to the top rope and Christian shoved him off of it, diving through the ropes and driving Komander into the barricade. Christian put him back in the ring and went up for a splash. Komander moved though and the two traded super- and dropkicks.

Komadner hit a super-poisonrana and Christian staggerd from the ring. Komander hit a massive flipping splash on him outside the ring and dragged him back in. Komander walked the ropes, but Christian knocked the ref into the ropes, sending him off. Christian then hit a curb stomp, but it only got a two-count.

Christan hit a side slam from the second rope on Komander, but Komander responded with a Mexican Destroyer. He then hit Christian with a 619 and a Shooting Star press to get the pin, eliminate Christian and become the new ROH Television Champion!

-Kanemaru and Sho were announced as the opponents for the Sons of Texas in a match for the ROH Tag Team Titles at Wrestledream. Neat.

ROH World Championship: Chris Jericho (c ) defeated Matt Cardona

The Story So Far: Mark Briscoe was a wildly popular ROH World Champion, but met his match when he ran up against “The Nueve” Chris Jericho in a Ladder War. Jericho walked away with the title and has successfully defended it against Tomohiro Ishii on (checks notes) AEW Dynamite. Aside from that, the Champion has cut a few promos but has barely been shown on ROH TV, except in pre-taped footage. Somehow, the challenger has had even less to do with ROH in the same period.

Matt Cardona has become one of the top Indie stars in the world in the last few years, winning titles and matches in just about every promotion with three ropes and some turnbuckles. He arrived in ROH a few weeks ago to take this shot at Jericho’s title. So, to recap: The ROH Champion who is never on ROH is taking on a worthy challenger who has also not been on ROH. Regardless of how little sense it makes though, these two haven’t met since 2016 where Cardona got a win over Jericho and should put on one hell of a match!

Cardona entered from outside the building on the frigid streets of New York. He walked through the front doors of the Hammerstein all the way to the ring. His Ghostbusters-themed gear was looking fantastic and he gave his parents at ringside a hug.

Jericho entered with the “Nuev-ettes” to the dulcet tones of Frank Sinatra singing “New York, New York.” He also had a foam Statue of Liberty hat that only a tourist would wear on his head.

Cardona had Jericho on his heels early in the match, coming at him aggressive and fast. He dragged Jericho over to where his father was sitting and Cardona Sr. pie-faced him. Cardona Jr. then threw Jericho into the steel ringsteps.

Cardona picked up the ROH Title belt and brought it into the ring as Jericho staggerd to his feet. Cardona whipped Jericho with with the belt. Bryan Keith tried to help on Jericho’s behalf, but Cardona dispatched him and leapt onto Keith and Jericho on the outside. Finally, Jericho managed to get a backdrop onto the ramp to stop Cardona’s rampage.

Jericho waited in the ring, urging the Ref to count Cardona out. Cardona made it back at 19 though to avoid ending the match and Jericho chopped him in the corner. Jericho battled back and sent Cardona to the outside where Keith stomped him while the count started again. Cardona made it back faster this time though and Jericho took control of the match, jeering at the crowd.

Jericho exited the ring and confronted Cordona’s Dad, returning the pie face. That brought out the rage in Cardona and he charged Jericho, who dodged and sent him into the ringsteps. Jericho then grabbed a camera, played with it for a second, then put it down and slammed Cardona into the steps again, followed by sending him face-first into the ringpost.

Jericho, cocky now, got Cardona back in the ring and began toying with him. Chops, light kicks, soft covers. It was enough to wake up Cordona who began trading chops with Jericho. Jericho came out on top and set Cardona up for a frankensteiner.

Cardona recovered and drop-kicked Jericho, looking for a surprise pin. It was only a two count through and Jericho executed a Lionsault to get his own two-count. He went for the Lion Tamer, but Cardona reversed it into a spine buster. The crowd began to “Woo” as Cardona went to the top rope. Jericho climbed the ladder though and and superplexed him. Cardona no-sold it though and hit a tiger driver. Jericho responded with a Codebreaker, but it only got a two.

Jericho finally got Cardona in the Liontamer, but Cardona wriggled out and Keith climbed up on the apron with the ROH Title belt. Cardona shoved Jericho into him, knocking him off. Jericho battled back and locked in a second Liontamer. Cardona was able to get to the rope this time, where Big Bill was waiting! He kicked Cardona in the face and Jericho went for a pin but Cardona wasn’t done yet!

Cardona hit a codebreaker of his own and came within a hair of winning the title before Jericho kicked out. Cardona hit a Ruff Ryder from the tope rope and went fort a pin, but Bill distracted the ref and Kieth jumped in to hit Cardona with the belt. Jericho rolled over him and got the pin to retain the ROH World Championship.

After the match, Big Bill and Kieth beat up Cardona in the ring. They choked him out until the one and only Bandito made his return and ran to the ring to clear it out and save Cardona.

ROH Women’s World Championship: Athena (c ) defeated Billie Starkz

The Story So Far: Athena and Starkz may be destined to do this forever. Last year at Final Battle 2023, these two had a violent barnburner of a match. Since then, Stakz and Athena grew close, with Athena making Starkz one of her Minions along with Lexy Nair. Starkz won the inaugural ROH Women’s TV Title Tournament, but lost the belt to Red Velvet, disappointing the Minion Overlord (Athena).

Since then, Athena has demoted Starkz to Minion-in-Training and generally treated her like an afterthought. That frustrated Starkz who got mopier and mopier until it all boiled over during a tag match on the most recent ROH on HonorClub. After Athena used her as a weapon to get a victory (like literally threw her at her opponents several times), Starkz snapped and destroyed Athena’s custom ROH Women’s World Title. That brought about a brutal brawl (wow, lotta “b’s” there) that left Starkz unconscious after Athena sent her face into the title belt.

Starkz arrived with a big smile in Wonder-Woman gear in tribute to Sumie Sakai. Athena entered in full Two-Face cosplay! I think I read this comic…

After introductions, the bell rang and the rematch was on! Athena began laying in the shots, driving Starkz face into the turnbuckle. Starkz scrambled and started throwing her own ‘bows and chops to the champion. The frustration that had been boiling for months was on full display as Starkz rained down blows on Athena.

These two know each other so well, that it was a virtual seesaw of momentum. One always had the counter or response to whatever the other threw at them. Athena tried to keep the pace slow while Starkz leaned into speed to keep Athena guessing.

Athena knocked Stakz over with a back elbow and Starkz popped back up to lay in some lariats. Athena sent her to the corner and Starkz kicked her way out. Athena caught Starkz’ leg when she attempted a big kick and wrapped it into a standing submission lock. Starkz twisted her way into an armbar, but Athena reversed THAT into a big slam.

Athena went back to working Starkz’ leg, raining down the kicks and stomps and wrapping Starkz up in the ropes to hang from it. Athena dragged Starkz from the ring and walked her around it by the hair like a dog. She jawed at Starkz’ Mom in the audience and went to send Starkz into the steps, but she didged it and Athena hit the steel. Starkz then hit a flatliner onto the steps, bouncing Athena’s head off of them.

Starkz tried to get Athena up in an Electric Chair but her knee gave out. She charged Athena who grabbed her in a powerbomb on the floor at ringside. Dragging Starkz back into the ring, Athena wrapped her injured knee around the ringpost. But Starkz jerked back and knocked Athena’s head against the post. Athena staggered back into the ring and Starkz met her with a DDT.

Starkz hit a Smash Mouth on Athena, but only got a two-count. Starkz began kicking Athena in the face, trying to stun her into submission. Starkz drove her knee into Athena’s spine, pulling back on her arms and chin. Athena fought out of it, but Starkz was able to set her up for a brainbuster on her own knee. Starkz climbed to the top rope, but Athena kicked her and pulled her into a fallaway slam from the top rope.

Athena caught a blast of energy and sent Starkz to the corner for some kicking. She followed that up with a springboard on a dazed Starkz to get a two-count. Athena looked like she was running out of ideas as Starkz rose and hoisted Athena on her shoulders. Athena rolled through it though and hit a codebreaker.

Athena went up for the O-Face, but Starkz caught her mid air and slammed her. The two began exchanging kicks and punches back and forth. Athena caught Starkz in the face with a kick and went up for a pile driver. Starkz reversed it though and landed a pile driver of her own. Athena kicked out at two though.

The two battled on the outside until Starkz hit an Alabama Slam on the ring apron. Athena rolled off and Starkz climbed up and hit an amazing Swanton onto her on the floor. Starkz dragged Athena back into the ring, but she kicked out once again. Fighting back to standing.

Athena picked up Starkz and threw her over the top rope. The ref checked on Starkz and Athena hit a suicide dive that got both of them. Athena pulled Starkz back into the ring, but there was no one to count! Lexy Nair appeared from under the ring and handed Athena a mic. She tried to hit Starkz with it, but missed, letting Starkz get her into an Electric Chair and a two-count.

Athena exposed the turnbuckle as Starkz hit a poison rana. Starkz charged and hit her head on the exposed turnbuckle. Athena climbed up and hit a perfect O-Face from the top rope. She pinned Starkz and won the match, retaining her title and continuing her reign as “Forever Champion!”

What a great night of wrestling!

**********

ROH on Honorclub episode #95 arrives to send us straight into December 20th’s Final Battle event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in good ol’ NYC. The card has firmed up in the last couple of weeks, but there’s always room for more!

Lee Johnson (w/EJ Nduka) defeated Bishop Kaun (w/Toa Liona)

Last week, Johnson lost a fight to Toa Liona that resulted in a beatdown until Nduka came down for the save. Not satisfied with the level of punishment Linoa gave him, Johnson this week faces Kaun, but he’s skipping the waiting and just bringing Nduka to the ring with him right away. One can only assume that a tag match between all four men is on the horizon.

The two men locked up with Kaun having the obvious size advantage. Johnson’s speed and agility though more than made up for it and he remained defiant of the bigger man, shoving him in the corner. That got Johnson a big shoulder to the chops though, with Kaun keeping the match slow and heavy, exactly in his wheelhouse.

Johnson caught Kaun with a big dropkick, sending him to the outside and following it up with a front flip over the top rope onto Kaun. Back in the ring, Kaun flipped things and tied Johnson up in the ropes, leaving him prone to multiple dropkicks. Kaun worked Johnson’s knee over and over again, trying to take away his speed and possibly ability to walk.

Kaun flipped Johnson over with a lariat and hit a big driver. Johnson looked like he was done, but fought back with a neckbreaker and a standing moonsault. Kaun resumed the beatdown, but Johnson was able to sneak in a quick rollup for the 1-2-3!

After the match, Kaun wanted to shake Johnson’s hand, but Liona stopped him and shoved Johnson. That brought in Nduka to stare down both of them. Liona and Kaun backed away out of the ring slowly.

-Lee Moriarty was interviewed backstage about his open challenge for the ROH Pure Title. Moriarty said he’s ready for Final Battle, and anyone who answers the challenge. Moriarty wants to face the best to show everyone that he’s the best!

– After a commercial for Final Battle, Leyla Hirsch and ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet were interviewed back stage under the condition there be no violence. The two jawed at each other and got in each other’s faces, but that’s about it.

Queen Aminata defeated Lady Frost

Aminata and Frost were once top contenders for the ROH Women’s World Championship, but lately have been spending more and more time just being around. Aminata failed to win the Wrestle Dynasty International Women’s Cup Qualifier Tournament Semi Final (boy, that’s a lot of words) she was part of in November, and Frost  has taken losses from Billie Starkz, Reyna Isis and Athena in the last few months. Both women are looking to right the ship here.

The two tied up with Aminata getting the upper hand. She blocked a Frost suplex attempt and followed up a gymnastic exchange with a huge kick. Frost was not that easy to get by though and Frost rained down elbows on Aminata, which she no-sold. Frost finally got Aminata off her feet and kicked her into the corner for some chops.

Frost hit a Fisherman’s Suplex on Aminata for a two count before putting her into a sleeper hold. Aminata does not sleep though (I can’t back that up) and battled out of it, driving Frost into the turnbuckle. Aminata followed that up with a backbreaker and snap suplex. She hit Frost with a huge knee that looked like it put her away, but only got a two.

Frost delivered a Snowball Fight to Aminata in the corner and climbed the turnbuckle for a tornado clothesline. At this point it was a really exciting match, with lots of near falls and big moves, but the crowd was sitting on their hands.

The perked up a bit when Aminata locked in a modified tarantula stretch, pulling Frost’s arm practically out of it’s socket and forcing her to tap out (with the other arm, of course).

-The camera switched to a shot of the parking lot of a training facility where Dustin Rhodes got out of his truck and entered the building. The camera turned around to reveal Dutch and Vincent, the Righteous, lying in wait for him. They snuck in and found Dustin… vacuuming the ring? Sure. Anyways, they jumped him from behind and beat him down, choking him with cables and smashing his head with the cowbell. Vincent stole Rhodes’ phone and Facetimed Sammy Guevara (Rhodes’ partner) to show him the devastation. The Righteous left laughing, leaving Rhodes in a pool of his own blood.

Murder Machines (Brian Cage & Lance Archer) (w/Don Callis) defeated Iron Savages (Beefcake Boulder & Bulk Bronson) (w/Jacked Jameson)

I haven’t made it a secret that I’m not a huge fan of the Iron Savages schtick. I find it pretty derivative and obnoxious (which as heels, maybe I’m supposed to?). Anyways, watching them get beat up by Cage and Archer, each taking a break from their usual teams, was a pretty great time. Cage is using this as a warmup for Final Battle where he’ll defend his ROH TV Title in a 6-Way Survival of The Fittest Match.

With four gigantic men in the match, it was no surprise that it was a hard hitting affair. Big clubbing chops, huge strikes and lots and lots of posing. Cage and Bronson started things off and literally just punched each other back into the ropes over and over. Boulder tagged in and stomped over to Cage who was more than happy to do the same thing with this big man. Boulder managed to knock Cage off his feet, so Archer tagged in and the hitting resumed.

Boulder (who looked a little jaundiced for some reason) found himself in the corner taking big running elbows from Archer. Archer put Bronson and Boulder in a choke hold and tried to choke slam them both, but they are very big men and were able to fight out of it for a Beefcake bomb. The Savages were in control as they tried a double team on Archer, but he rolled out of the way causing Bronson’s face to meet the mat. Cage jumped in and suplexed Boulder out of the ring.

All four men battled in the ring until Boulder was sent to the outside with a clothesline and Bronson was the recipient of a Choke Bomb (Chokeslam and powerbomb at the same time) giving Murder Machines the victory. After the match Don Callis got a few stomps in on Bronson, much to the joy of Cage and Archer.

-QT Marshall and Jay Lethal are fighting at Final Battle for… reasons. They were interviewed in what appeared to be a hotel conference room, but Marshall was late. They started anyways, but before Lethal could say anything, Marshall arrived and interrupted. Lethal started talking about how it feels to return to Ring of Honor (it feels amazing), Marshall talked about he’s been disrespected. He asked for the match with Lethal, but Lethal doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Lethal retorted saying no offense to Marshall, but he wanted to be in the Title Picture, not wrestling a random match (I feel the same way). This conversation went on for way, way too long, with both men trying their hardest to make the match mean something, but it didn’t really work. In the end, Marshall sucker-punched Lethal and they’ll fight tomorrow. Moving on…

-It was then announced that on the Final Battle Zero Hour pre-show, the Infantry would take on the Undisputed Kingdom, Harley Cameron will be up against Hanako of Stardom and two big tag matches. First, LEEJ vs the Gates of Agony and then the Dark Order vs The Grizzled Young Veterans.

ROH Classic Match: ROH Women’s Champion Athena vs Billie Starkz at Final Battle 2023

A preview of the rematch happening tomorrow night, this was as good a match as one can get from two women who are very, very good at wrestling. Athena had a facemask on due to injury and Starkz’ bratting was top notch. The two fought in a hard hitting, near 30-minute violent battle and I’m pretty sure you know who won. If we get a match half as good tomorrow night, it’ll be an easy Match of The Year contender.

Serpentico defeated Sidney Akeem

Serpentico and his partner Angelico have spent 2024 as standouts in ROH. Their laid back but also exciting at the same time matches have always been a highlight. Serpentico goes at it solo here, taking on Akeem who is looking to avenge his loss in his ROH Debut in November to Johnny TV.

Serpentico matches are always fun, so it was no surprise that this one was as entertaining as it was. Akeem has always been underrated as a worker and was able to keep up with all of the speed and high-flying of Serpentico. He even managed to get the drop on Serpentico with a big kick! Akeem then flew over the top rope, almost seeming to pause in midair before dropping onto Serpentico.

It was like watching two video game characters. The moves with crisp, the shots landed and the big showcase spots were just that. Akieem was very impressive hitting a Skywalker stomp and a moonsault in quick succession. Battling on the top rope though, Serpentico took over, sending Akeem to the mat and following it up with a big senton to get the win.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena & Billie Starkz defeated Blair Onyx & Missa Kate

In reference to Starkz and Athena, this match dares to ask the most burning question in all of wrestling: Can they coexist!? The answer is yes, their existence on this plane in the same place at the same time is not in any question. However, the tag team they are forming just a day away from their showdown at Final Battle is less clear. They will be taking out their frustrations with each other on Blair Onyx and Missa Kate. Starks beat Onyx back in October, but this will be Chicago-native Kate’s ROH Debut.

Athena sent Starkz out to start things off against Kate. It didn’t last long though as Starkz got a blind tag as soon as Athena was near enough. She and Kate battled for a bit before Onyx tagged in. Starkz hit a flying headscissor and laid her out in the corner. Athena distracted Starkz, trying to “warn” her about a DQ allowing Kate and Onyx to get the drop on her with a double team.

Athena grabbed a bind tag and jumped in to pick up Starkz and use her as a weapon. She threw Starkz at Onyx, then grabbed her again to do the same to Kate. Athena then used Starkz in an unwilling Flapjack to take out Kate and locked a submisson on Onyx, getting a quick tapout.

Starkz, furious, grabbed Athena’s personalized belt and ran up the entrance ramp. Starkz ripped the photo of Athena off the title and smashed the belt. Athena tried to attack, but Starkz laid her out with a huge forearm. They two fought until security showed up, at which point Athena laid out Starkz with a massive dropkick. She thew Starkz into the barricade and then beat her up until more security came. Athena took out the guards and started ramming Starkz’ head into the steel ring steps. She then smashed Starkz’ face with the title belt and left her lying, screaming her way into the back. Great end to a great show!

Oh, wait, there’s more!

-It was announced that two more matches have been added to the Final Battle card: Mansoor vs Atlantis Jr and Katsuyori Shibata Vs Tommy Billington!

-Next, ROH World Champion “The Nueve” Chris Jericho crashed Game Changer Wrestling’s HIGHEST IN THE ROOM 3 event on Saturday to take out his Final Battle opponent, “The Complete” Matt Cardona.  They showed footage of the attack while Jericho ran down Cordona in a promo. At Final Battle, these two will fight it out for the first time since 2016, when Cardona pinned Jericho in March 2016.

Eight Man Tag Team Match: Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) & Shane Taylor Promotions (Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor) defeated The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno, w/John Silver) & The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett)

This team up makes perfect sense. The Grizzled Young Veterans and Shane Taylor Promotions have a similar bad attitude and the Dark Order and the Kingdom are both looking to elevate themselves back into ROH Tag Team Title contention. Also, last week Taven failed to win the ROH Pure Championship from Moriarty, so there’s already beef on both sides. As mentioned earlier, Moriarty has laid out an Open Challenge for his title at Final Battle so maybe this sets up a rematch? Let’s find out!

In a great case of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” the Kingdom and Dark Order did a synchronized pose to kick things off, signalling that they are going to be working as a unit. GYV and STP were not so cordial.

Gibson and Reynolds started things off and as expected it was a fast, technical exchange. Lots of kicks and whips. Uno tagged in and Gibson begged off, choosing to tag in Moriarty instead. Uno ended up getting the better of the Pure Champion, chopping him into the ring. Bennett, Taven and Reynolds all put their boots up on the top turnbuckle and Uno rammed Moriarty’s face into them.

Bennett tagged in and Drake got a blind tag so that he and Moriarty could double team Bennett. Bennett responded with at Thez Press and tagged in Taven who knocked Drake into next week. Gibson tagged in and a double clothesline from him and Drake put Taven on his back. That brought in the big man, Shane Taylor.

Taylor isolated Taven in the corner so Moriarty could tag in and the GRV could stomp Taven into the ground. Taven fought back and hit a spinning heel kick on the legal Gibson, giving him the chance to get a hot tag to Bennett. Bennett stacked up Moriarty, Drake and Gibson in the corner for chops. Then he delivered spinebusters to them all and went for the pin on Moriarty, but Taylor broke it up.

Uno and Taylor ended up facing off in the ring with Uno getting the upper hand until Moriarty hit him from behind. Then Reynolds hit HIM from behind and a brawl with all 8 men broke out. The dust settled with Uno and Moriarty legal. Drake and Gibson took out Silver on the outside, drawing the dark order into a brawl at ringside. These two teams fought to the back while Taylor hit Bennett with a big elbow in the ring.

Taylor missed a running elbow and Bennett tried to take advantage, but Moriarty tagged in, rolled him up and used the ropes for leverage to get the pin!

Final Battle is tomorrow starting a 7pm with Zero Hour! Here’s the card as of now:

ROH World Championship: Chris Jericho (c ) vs Matt Cardona

ROH Women’s World Championship: Athena (c ) vs Billie Starkz

ROH Tag Team Championship Texas Bull Rope Match: The Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) (c ) vs The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch)

ROH Pure Championship Open Challenge: Lee Moriarty (c ) vs ????

QT Marshall vs Jay Lethal

Mansoor vs Atlantis Jr

Katsuyori Shibata vs Tommy Billington

“We will be the first women to main event in Hammerstein as far as I know, as far as Ring of Honor goes, anyway,” Athena said on the show.

“I’m the first and only women’s main event within Ring of Honor on a pay-per-view so it’s it’s really cool to just get another notch on the belt of history,” she continued.

Women’s title defense, grudge match added to Ring of Honor Final Battle

Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will put her title on the line against stablemate and former Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz at next Friday’s ROH Final Battle.

The match was made during Thursday’s HonorClub show after Athena stole a pin from Starkz on Red Velvet to earn her spot at January’s Wrestle Dynasty International Women’s Cup. In a backstage segment, Starkz confronted Athena about the situation and they agreed to a title match at the streaming special from New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

It will be their third-ever singles match with the first coming in the opening round of the 2023 Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament. The two then squared off at last year’s Final Battle with Athena successfully defending her title.

Athena has held the title for more than 730 days with 24 successful title defenses.

In another new match for the card, Jay Lethal will take on QT Marshall. This was also made Thursday during a backstage segment where Lethal was talking about his future and Marshall interrupted which led to a physical altercation and the match being made.

Here’s the current card:

  • ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against Matt Cardona
  • ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defends against Billie Starkz
  • ROH Tag Team Champions Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) defend against The Righteous (Vincent & Dutch)
  • ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet defends against Leyla Hirsch
  • Jay Lethal vs. QT Marshall

Athena qualifies for Wrestle Dynasty International Women’s Cup

Image: AEW

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena is moving on to Tokyo for next month’s Wrestle Dynasty.

Athena survived a four-way qualifier on Thursday’s ROH on HonorClub to advance to the first-ever International Women’s Cup four-way at the January 5th event in the Tokyo Dome. It will also be her first-ever match in the country.

The end came when it looked like Leyla Hirsch was going to pin Red Velvet, but Billie Starkz jumped in to attempt to steal the pin. Athena saw an opportunity and then shoved Starkz out of the way to pin Velvet herself for the victory.

She is the first woman to qualify and will represent ROH. Willow Nightingale and Jamie Hayter will battle to be the AEW qualifier on Saturday’s Collision while Zeuxis, Reyna Isis, Persephone and Sanely will wrestle in their own four-way at Arena Mexico Friday. Stardom has yet to announce how their qualifier will work.

Ring of Honor TV live results: The Conglomeration in trios action

The Conglomeration will be in trios action as part of tonight’s Thanksgiving night edition of Ring of Honor on HonorClub.

Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly & Rocky Romero will unite against the unusual team of the Grizzled Young Veterans & Pat Buck, the AEW vice president of talent development.

After losing to Jamie Hayter in Wednesday’s AEW International Women’s Cup qualifier, Queen Aminata will look to get back on the winning track against Christina Marie.

In a Pure rules match, Matt Taven will go to battle with former Pure Champion Josh Woods.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will be on hand with Lexy Nair ahead of Athena’s upcoming “world tour.”

The new team of LeeJ (Lee Johnson & EJ Nduka) will be in action against Anthony Gangone & Goose.

The Righteous match up with JD Drake & Beef while MxM Collection go heads-up against the Iron Savages.

The offensively gifted AR Fox will look to get in the win column against Dark Order’s John Silver.

**********

OK, let’s see here… Thursday? Check. Ring of Honor on HonorClub Episode 92? Check. Tag Teams, Tag Teams and more Tag Teams? Check Check Check!

Things kicked off with the ROH Champion, Chris Jericho addressing the audience. He had a tough time against Ishii on Dynamite, but he persevered! Jericho announced that he will be at Final Battle on December 20th in NYC, defending his title. He declared himself King of New York, and the show began!

LEEJ (EJ Nduka & Lee Johnson) defeated Anthony Gangone & Kubes

Our first tag match of the night featured the potentially unstoppable and definitely poorly named LEEJ. Nduka and Johnson have been teaming for a few months now and have yet to find a team to take them down. Gangone and Kubes were also a team. This was Gangone’s debut, but Kubes apparently hadf a match a few months back.

Johnson and Gangone started things off, but it wasn’t long before the looming figure of Nduka was involved. Kubes jumped in, but Nduka made very short work of him, tossing him to the outside. Johnson jumped in and he and Nduka hit a double team cutter on Gangone to get the quick win.

Queen Aminata defeated Christina Marie

Animata has been running around Dynamite, Collision and Rampage lately, which isn’t to say she’s taken her eyes off the ROH Women’s Prize(s). Her return here against Marie might just be the start of her trip towards the Women’s TV or World Titles. Marie for her part, is still looking of that elusive first win in ROH, having gone 0-4 in various singles and tag matches.

Marie started things off throwing fists, but the agility and strength of Aminata was able to easily deflect them. Marie landed a dropkick, sending Aminata to the corner. She tried a bulldog, but Aminat athrew her off and hit her with a big hip in the corner.

Aminata dragged Marie to the middle of the ring and locked in a trap submission leaving Marie no alternative other than to tap out.

MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) defeated Iron Savages (Beefcake Boulder & Bulk Bronson) (w/Jacked Jameson)

The MxM Collection is here and not just to sell shirts this time! They are taking on what could only be described as their polar opposites in the Iron Savages. The only question in this match would be who had the most pose downs and if the Savages would be open to touching tips! Jameson did his usual 1999 Scott Steiner impression on the mic as the Savages entered, but the big pop was reserved for Mansoor and Madden.

Mansoor kicked things off against Bronson and Mansoor’s speed kept him out of the clutches of the bigger man. The even bigger man, Boulder, tagged in next threatening to “Bite [Mansoor’s] tip off” which was all kinds of gross. That brought Madden in to match up against the big man. Madden knocked him out of the ring, allowing the MxM Collection to pose.

Jameson got involved, catching Mansoor’s foot and giving Bronson an opening to isolate the smaller man in the corner. Boulder tried to get Mansoor up for a big slam, but he was able to wriggle free and try for a hot tag, but Boulder dragged him back to the middle of the ring. He went for a second rope moonsault, but it was speculated he pulled his groin dancing.

Mansoor finally got the hot tag to Madden and he cleaned house, but the Savages caught him and tried to send him to (sigh) Titty City. MxM reversed it though and Madden hit a big choke slam. MxM hit a massive Centerfold, and got the pin on Boulder.

Matt Taven defeated Josh Woods (w/Ariya Daivari & Mark Sterling)

The ROH PURE Championship is the only ROH title that’s eluded Taven in his career. His win in a Pure Rules match over Aaron Solo showed that he can hang in that division and caught the attention of current Pure Champion, Lee Moriarty. A win over former Pure Champion Woods would definitely put Taven closer to a shot at the title.

With all that said, for those just joining us, a Pure Rules Match grants each participant one warning for a closed fist and three rope breaks. If there isn’t a winner by pinfall or submission by the time limit, a panel of judges will award the win based on points. Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels and Nigel McGuinness would serve as judges.

Woods and Taven were pretty evenly matched in terms of size and speed, but Woods’ technical background definitely gave him a leg up. Speaking of which, Taven used his first rope break at 0:47, putting his foot on the bottom rope.

Taven has been doing his homework though and was able to match Woods, hold for hold. Woods wrenched Taven’s arm on the top rope and made it his primary target. Woods worked over Taven’s arm again and again, using the ropes and whatever else he could to render it useless. Woods landed a huge knee to the face that echoed throughout the venue.

Taven fought back with some foot-based offense, but Woods caught him and tried to lock in an Armbar. The tricky Taven though manged to push Woods onto his back and pick up a quick three count. That brought out current ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty who jawed at Taven from the ramp.

-ROH Women’s World Champion Athena joined us with Lexy Nair for an Emergency MEM to discuss her “World Tour.” Athena announced that the World Tour would begin at WrestleDynasty with a 4-way qualifier match (even though she doesn’t think she should have to qualify) for the Women’s International Tournament.

The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) defeated BEEF & JD Drake

The 3rd tag match of the night began with the The Righteous snapping their way to the ring. Dutch and Vincent have been locked in a blood feud with the current ROH Tag Champions, the (sigh) Sons of Texas, aka Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara. BEEF and JD Drake have been reluctant partners after BEEF’s cousin and Drake’s tag partner Anthony Henry had to take some injury time off.  The Righteous are anything but an orthodox tag team, and BEEF and Drake seem to be able to find creative ways to win. If the match isn’t interrupted, it should be a good one!

Dutch started things off against BEEF while Vincent battled Drake on the outside. Then the match started. BEEF was isolated in the Righteous’ corner and Dutch and Vincent double teamed him with absolutely no regard of who was legal. It ended up being Vincent, who hammered BEEF in the center of the ring.

Vincent distracted the Ref while Drake choked BEEF with his Official Dusty Rhodes Cowbell & Rope. Drake paced furiously on the outside of the ring while BEEF took a beating. A hot tag was finally made to Drake who picked up and slammed Dutch. Dutch responded with a side slam and he and Vincent hit Orange Sunshine. Dutch then landed a big Dusty Rhodes-style elbow and got the pin.

After the match, the Righteous taunted Rhodes and Guevara. They appeared at the top of the ramp, Rhodes looking to fight, jumping in the ring with a chair. The Righteous split as the teams yapped at each other.

AR Fox defeated John Silver (w/Alex Reynolds & Evil Uno)

Fox has been getting a lot of opportunities lately, taking on Brian Cage, Nick Wayne and Riccochet just to name a few. He’s still sitting at a 4-13 record in 2024 though, so a win here would be good. Silver spends most of his time with his pals Reynolds and Uno in the Dark Order, playing DnD or designing cool jackets or whatever it is they do in their spare time. In singles matches, Silver is 2-1 this year, so I guess he’s on a roll? Kind of?

Fox had about 10 inches of height on Silver, but Silver makes up for his height in girth and definitely won the strength battle off the top. Fox had the speed though and after sending Silver to the outside nailed him with a big dive over the top rope.

Back in the ring, Silver powered into a massive suplex after Uno was caught trying to interfere on the outside. Fox battled back and hit a big swanton on Silver from the top rope. Silver and Fox threw forearms and traded big kicks until SiFox lver hit a Brainbuster for a two-count.

Fox surprised Silver with a big cutter and managed to scramble to the top rope to hit a 450 and get the win.

-Next, the first official match for Final Battle 2024 was announced: ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet will defend her title against Leyla Hirsch!

ROH Classic Match: Match Without Honor – Chris Hero vs Eddie Kingston (ROH Final Battle 2009)

As you’d expect, this was one hell of a brawl. Hero and Kingston tore each other up in NYC at the Manhattan Center. Chains were the weapons of choice for most of the match. I’ll be honest, I often forget that Hero is very good at what he does, and this was him in his prime. Kingston is, as a certain Texan used to say, one tough SOB. I’m looking forward to when the Mad King returns from injury in AEW.

Six Man Tag Team Match: The Conglomeration (Kyle O’Reilly, Mark Briscoe & Rocky Romero) defeated Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) & Pat Buck

The Main Event of the evening switched up the Tag format but adding more people! this 6-man match was a fun way to bring in some big name ROH Talent in O’Reilly, Briscoe and Romero AKA The Conglomeration. The Veterans were part of a 4-team tag match a few weeks ago that was ultimately won by The Undisputed Kingdom. Pat Buck, who sadly is not the NFL play-by-play guy, hasn’t been seen in ROH since around this time last year when he lost to then Pure Champion Josh Woods.

O’Reilly started things off against Gibson, both men highly decorated in their respective fields. This match kinda had it all. Brawlers, technicians, speed and lots of high-impact moves and sequences. Briscoe knocked Drake from post to post before Romero tagged in and kept Drake off his feet with a headscissor takedown.

Gibson and Drake are the current NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team title holders, so they had a cohesiveness that in spite of the Conglomeration’s closeness, kept them in control. Buck for his part was there, but barely made a difference, spending most of the match on the ring apron waiting for a tag.

Buck finally made it into the match, only to run up against Briscoe who made short work of him. Drake a Gibson jumped in to double team Briscoe and a miscommunication with Buck caused them to get knocked to the outside. Reilly (who apparently was the legal man) put an arm bar on Buck (who apparently was also legal) causing Buck to tap out almost instantly.

AEW reveals ROH participants for International Women’s Cup qualifier

ROH participants for the Wrestle Dynasty International Women’s Cup match have been revealed.

During AEW Full Gear Zero Hour, it was revealed that ROH Women’s Champion Athena, ROH Women’s Television Champion Red Velvet, Billie Starkz, and Leyla Hirsch will face off in a four-way match at an undetermined date. The winner of their four-way match will advance to another four-way match at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5 at the Tokyo Dome, where the winner will receive the International Women’s Cup.

Three other four-way matches in AEW, CMLL, and Stardom will determine the rest of the Wrestle Dynasty participants. Earlier this week, it was announced that CMLL’s four-way will take place on December 13 between Zeuxis, Reyna Isis, Persephone, and Sanely.

Wrestle Dynasty (Sunday, January 5) —

Ring of Honor TV live results: NJPW stars return

Several NJPW stars will be part of tonight’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub — a show that will also feature a men’s TV title defense.

In a non-title match, NEVER Openweight Champion Shingo Takagi will battle Ariya Daivari in Takagi’s first match for the promotion since June 2023.

NJPW men’s Strong Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd will battle Angelico in non-title action. It’s Kidd’s second ROH match and first since October’s title defense over Anthony Henry.

Tomohiro Ishii will face Mike Bennett as he looks to keep momentum going ahead of his challenge of ROH World Champion Chris Jericho Wednesday.

Kevin Knight will make his ROH debut as he faces Serpentico.

ROH men’s TV Champion Brian Cage defends against AR Fox while ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will also be in action, taking on Leila Grey in a Proving Ground match.

Shane Taylor & ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will face JD Drake & Beef while The Righteous will make an appearance.

**********

All right, friends! You know the drill: Thursday, Ring of Honor, Honorclub. Now let’s get to the fights!

NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion Gabe Kidd defeated Angelico

KIdd brings to ROH the NJPW STRONG Openweight title, which you know is important because it has a lot of CAPITAL LETTERS. He retained that title against Anthony Henry on episode #85 of ROH on Honorclub back in October. Angelico would love to add that title to his collection, but sadly, this was a non-title match. No worries though, he’s cool.

Kidd started things off just like his title; strong. He rained down chops, shoves, kicks and stomps on Angelico. It wasn’t until Angelico managed to duck a lariat and deliver his own clotheslines that he got some offence in. Once he got moving though, Kidd seemed confused b the fluid style of Angelico. A punch to the face fixed that and brought the match back under Kidd’s control.

Kid launched himself at Angelico and managed to fold him up like an accordion. 1-2-3 and it was over, Kidd wins, and delivered a parting kick to the head for good measure.

Shane Taylor Promotions (Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor) defeated BEEF & JD Drake

STP beat up a lot of people a couple of weeks ago. After adding The Infantry and Trish Adora to their ranks, they brawled with some nameless NPC’s in the back, and made their intentions to take the ROH tag belts away from Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara vary, very clear. BEEF and Drake (which sounds like an excellent dinner special at a mid-sized pub) have been reluctantly teaming together since BEEF’s 2nd cousin and Drake’s normal tag partner Anthony Henry got hurt.

Moriarty and Taylor are an excellent team. They both have a particular set of skills that perfectly compliment each other. Drake started off against Taylor, but tagged BEEF in fairly quickly. The crowd was chanting for BEEF, but Taylor’s experience level was too much for him and Taylor sat him down hard.

This match was interesting in that it featured a lot more yelling at each other than a normal match would. Taylor’s trash talk is legendary, but BEEF was able to get a few shots in verbally too. Moriarty tagged in and matched up with Drake, who brought the chops until Taylor made a blind tag and clotheslined Drake into next week.

Taylor and Drake stood each other up and spent about 60 seconds just hitting one another. Not wrestling, just a brawl, and it was awesome. Drake got a hot tag to BEEF who fed some right hands to Moriarty. BEEF hit a big bulldog (or BEEFdog, as they kept calling it) and drake tagged in to slam Moriarty. Drake missed a big splash from the top and Taylor tagged in got a big splash on Drake to get the pin.

After the match, Top Flight jumped in and all of STP laid a beating on Drake and BEEF. Suddenly, they were interrupted by the Undisputed Kingdom of all people! Bennett and Taven ran off STP and jawed at them as the helped BEEF and Drake to their feet.

-The Righteous cut a promo from an undisclosed location. Dutch read a poem to Dustin Rhodes, his “long-lost brother.” He talked about how Rhodes’ father Dusty had loved him like a son. Soon, the Righteous will take those tag titles, and then everyone will know who Dusty really thought of as his son.

Kevin Knight defeated Serpentico

Kevin Knight (who I discovered quickly is NOT my cousin of the same name) has been hanging out in NJPW for the last couple of years with a guy named KUSHIDA. This would be his ROH debut, and who better to go up against than the Laid-Back Luchadore, Serpentico? Last week he and his SAP partner Angelico picked up a win (and Angelico a singles loss this week) and a singles victory would be icing on the very delicious cake.

Knight had a bit of a size adventage on Serpentico, buy you can never count Serpentico out (unless he leaves the ring for 20 seconds. But that didn’t happen). Anyway, it was a fast one off the top with Knight showing why his nickname is “the Jet” and Serpentico keeping up in a neon green blur.

Serpentico laid in a bunch of SuperPunches on Knight in the corner, but couldn’t put him away. Knight fought back and took Serpentico’s head off with a lariat. Knight hit a sky high slam followed by a running frog splash that was really impressive. Knight hit one hell of a kick (clearly inspired by Sami Zayn) and follow it up with a big clothesline to put Serpentico down for the count.

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Mike Bennett

You have to go all the way back to May of this year to find Bennett’s last singles match, which was a loss to Matt Menard. Since then, he’s been a big part of the Undisputed Kingdom stable, winning (and losing) the ROH Tag Titles and warring with The Conglomeration. Said Conglomeration features the membership of Tomohiro Ishii, so these two know each other well. Ishii has a date with Chris Jericho for the ROH title in the wings on Dynamite, so this was a heck of a warmup.

Ishii refused a code of honor from Bennett and the two locked up. Ishii had the power, but Bennett was able to match it as they two traded chops for what seemed like 45 minutes. It was actually about 5 though, as Ishii nailed Bennett with a shoulder and sent him into the corner. Bennett fought back with a lariat and knocked Ishii off his feet.

Bennett hit Ishii with a spear, but it seemed to hurt him more than Ishii. A big spinebuster followed that, but Ishii kicked out at two. Bennett tried to go up top but Ishii caught him and put him in a stalling suplex from the top rope. Ishii went for a brain buster and that was it for Bennett. Ishii nailed it and got the pin.

ROH CLASSIC MATCH: Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima & Kensuke Sasaki (Final Battle 2008, December 27, 2008)

The attempted to give a reason for showing this match that made sense in-story, but it did not work. I’m pretty sure they showed this classic ROH match because it’s someone in production’s favourite match. That’s not a bad thing, mind you because it was a very, very good match! It deserves to be the favourite of the guy in production! Anyway, back in the here and now:

Shingo Takagi defeated Ariya Daivari

Takagi spent a lot of time in ROH between 2005-2008, but has only made a handful of appearances since then, choosing NJPW as his home where he’s done, well, just about everything. His last ROH match was in 2023 as part of a 6-man affair against pre-crisis Cage of Agony, The Mogul Embassy (Bishop Kaun, Brian Cage & Toa Liona). Daivari has been having mixed singles results lately, having lost to Tomohio Ishii, Komander and Sammy Guevara. With Mark Sterling in tow, Daivari and the Premier Athletes as a whole, needed a win here.

Daivari’d have his work cut out for him though with the much larger Takagi standing across the ring. Trying to outpower him did not work as Takagi returned everything Daivari threw at him with gusto. Even a cheap shot from behind that sent Takagi out of the ring didn’t really seem to do much to hurt him.

Daivari relied on his technical skills to work the arm of Takagi, taking away his big lariat. Takagi fought back though, drawing his second wind from the turnbuckle. He peppered Daivari with massive elbows, both front and back. Takagi went for a pumphandle slam but Sterling caused a distraction, letting Daivari hit a hammerlock DDT.

Daivari tried a clutch, but Takagi fought out of it and delivered a DDT of his own. Daivari ascaped up the ropes and tried a frog splash, but Takagi wasn’t done. On pure instinct he hit a massive lariat and then Last of The Dragon, a truly terrifying finisher, to get the pin.

PROVING GROUND MATCH: ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defeated Leila Grey

For those just joining us, this was a Proving Ground match. If Grey could pin the champion or last to a 10-minute time limit, she would get a shot at the ROH Women’s World Championship at a later date. Athena retained her title in October against Abadon, but there are plenty of women waiting in the wings to try and dethrone the Forever Champion, including disgruntled Minion in Training, Billie Starkz.

Athena took things with her usual seriousness, playing with Grey’s hair and running around the ring like an airplane. Grey jumped on this underestimation though, and got a couple of near falls off of some hard-hitting offense, and then sending Athena to the outside.

Athena turned the tables there, sending Grey’s face into the steel steps. Athena returned to the ring and Grey followed, right into the hands of the Champion with over three minutes gone in the match. All Grey had to do was last seven more minutes and she would get her title shot.

Grey started to pick up steam, hitting a bulldog that Athena kicked out of at two-and-three-quarters. Athena then started to bring out the big guns. Handspring slams in the corner, big power slams and lariats. She went to the top rope for the O Face, but Grey beat her to it and hit a sunset bomb from the top rope!

Time was running out though and Athena resorted to raking eyes and drawing Grey into a triangle choke. Grey lasted a few seconds, but was forced to tap before time ran out, dashing her hopes of a title match.

ROH WORLD TELEVISION TITLE MATCH: Brian Cage ( c) defeated AR Fox

In the Main Event: AR Fox has actually been on something of a roll in ROH the last couple months. He’s posted wins over Jack Cartwheel and Josh Woods and was part of a few tag victories as well. This is enough to earn him a shot a Brian Cage’s ROH World TV Title. This will mark Cage’s second defense of the belt, as he retained vs Komander a few weeks ago and has been hanging out with the Don Callis Family ever since. He even brought a Lance Archer with him!

Cage, in a very subdued outfit compared to his usual gear, was the same height as Fox, but about twice as wide. In a normal situation, this would be a case of Speed vs Strength, but as anyone who’s seen him wrestle knows, Cage has just as much speed as he does strength.

Fox tried everything he could including a Shooting Star Press and then a full moonsault onto Cage on the outside. Cage was resilient though, getting to his feet every time. Fox let Cage get to close, and got his eyes raked for his trouble. Cage moved into a series of power moves and suplexes to knock Fox silly.

Cage did some bicep curls with Fox, ending his set with a slam. From there, Cage tried a simple chin lock to wear down the challenger. Fox battled back though, hanging Cage up in the ropes. Fox pulled an Elix Skipper and matrix-dodged a big lariat. Cage looked a little sluggish at this point as Fox hit a DDT.

Cage managed to catch fox and hit a blue thunder pumphandle bomb. He tried to lock in a reverse cloverleaf, but Fox was able to get to the ropes. Fox responded with a Code red, but only got the two count. Fox then hit Cage with a spiccoli driver followed by a big 450 splash. Somehow, Cage kicked out though.

Fox set Cage up on the top rope, but Cage swatted him down and hit a satellite DDT, followed by a series of powerbombs, but still, Fox kicked out. Cage hit a discus lariat and a brainbuster and that finally put Fox on his back and out of his misery. Excellent match though! Excellent show!

Ring of Honor TV live results: Red Velvet vs. Diamante street fight

This week’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub will be highlighted by a street fight for the ROH Women’s TV title as Red Velvet defends against Diamante.

This will be a rematch of their early-October clash that Velvet won by DQ in the champion’s first title defense.

ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara will be in action as will future challengers The Righteous.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will hold another emergency meeting with Billie Starkz and Lexy Nair. Abadon, whom Athena defended the title against last month, will return to action against Viva Van.

After defeating The Butcher last week, former ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata will take on Aaron Solo.

Komander will look to rebound from losses to Kyle Fletcher and Lio Rush as he challenges former Pure Champion Josh Woods.

Griff Garrison & Preston Vance will team up for the first time against Northeast U.S. indie regulars Waves ‘n’ Curls.

**********

ROH on Honorclub episode 90 hit the airwaves (streamwaves?) with such force that it knocked not one, not two, but FOUR tag teams into the ring!

Four Way Tag Team Match: The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Gates Of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) and Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) and The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds & John Silver)

So, there was a lot of people in this match. A lot. Lets bring you up to speed:

The Undisputed Kingdom wanted to prove they’ve still got it after losing the titles back in September. Gates of Agony really wanted to hurt people. Grizzled Young Veterans appeared to be making their ROH on Honorclub debut, and The Dark Order, well, they just usually want to pose and cause as much chaos as possible. One thing that every team wanted though was to move up a notch to get into contention for the ROH Tag Team Titles.

Taven and Kaun kicked things off which was pretty fun. They are both big guys who can move really well. Eventually, Silver and Gibson locked up and it’s always fun to see Silver in the ring because even though he’s a Short King, he has the strength and agility of a much bigger man. The Veterans really shone here too, keeping everyone on their toes.

The Gates were the first to start the double teaming, but were dragged to the outside by the Kingdom and Veterans respectively. That left Silver in the ring to face Taven who dodged a big splash that set up Bennett to grab Silver for a spiked piledriver. As one can imagine, that got them the pin and the victory.

After the match, Taven and Bennett approached Gates of Agony and shared a tentative but respectful handshake. Odd behaviour between heels, but an interesting match up for a later day.

Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara defeated Love Doug & TJ Crawford

Now going by “The Sons of Texas”, The ROH Tag champions have been holding firmly onto those belts the last few weeks while the Righteous stalk them from every corner. Rhodes and Guevara got one up on Vincent and Dutch last week, jumping them on the ramp before their alleged match took place. Doug and Crawford have been teaming on the indies since 2021 with questionable team names like “Love In The City” and their current name “Shot Through The Heart.” No matter what they call themselves, this would be their ROH debut.

As imagined, Doug was in way over his head when he started the match opposite Rhodes. I mean that literally, he was a good foot shorter than Rhodes. What he did have was speed though and that caught Rhodes unawares. Crawford tagged in just in time to take a big splash from Guevara. Doug wanted a piece of that action, and jumped in to take a Sammy Superkick for his troubles.

Crawford was a better matchup against the champions, but Rhodes and Guevara have been firing on all cylinders and landed dual GTH’s on both of their opponents to get the win.

Immediately, The Righteous arrived and blindsided Rhodes to give a double team to Guevara. Dutch hit a side slam on Rhodes, and Vincent held him while Dutch smashed a large cowbell into his face. The RIghteous snapped their way out of the ring, leaving the champs lying.

-ROH World Champion Chris Jericho and The Learning Tree cut a promo in the back. Big Bill said that they are up to any challenge. Jericho talked about how he’s known Tomohiro Ishii for thirty years, when he was a “Young Boy” in Japan. Jericho accepted Ishii’s challenge to defend the ROH title against him in two weeks, in Chicago. Thanks guys!!

Griff Garrison & Preston Vance defeated Waves And Curls (Jaylen Brandyn & Traevon Jordan)

The tremendously named Waves and Curls have been together on the indies since 2020. They’ve done some grunt work in AEW, but as far as I can tell this was their ROH debut and they got a big hometown pop. Vance and Garrison would be teaming together for the first time, while Garrison’s usual partner, Cole Karter recovers from injury. Vance, for his part, is sitting at a 4-5 singles record in 2024, including a loss to Sammy Guevara last week, so maybe tag teaming is a better fit.

Garrison and Vance (who I am calling Team Purple Pants) seemed pretty cohesive for two guys who;ve never teamed together. Vance started things off against Jordan who made a mistake by dancing mid-move. That gave Vance an opening to crush him with a lariat.

Brandyn tagged in a looked like a literal child against Vance. Vance threw him around for a while and then tagged in Garrison. Garrison attempted to mock his opponent by, yep, dancing. It worked out ok for him though since Brandyn weighed about 75lbs and was easy to slam, even mid-dance.

Vance tagged in and hit a stalling (20 second) suplex on Brandyn. Garrison tagged in and Vance ran around to take out Jordan on the outside. Brandyn tried a suicide dive onto Vance on the outside, but Vance caught him with one hand and dragged him back into the ring. Vance and Garrison hit dual rolling elbows and got the pin, 1-2-3. Team Purple Pants looked good here, but they really weren’t up against tough opponents.

Katsuyori Shibata defeated Aaron Solo

Solo is a wrestler, but Shibata is THE Wrestler. Shibata has not lost a singles match in ROH in 2024, and holds wins over Brandon Cutler, The Butcher and 2/3rds of the Premier Athletes in just the last few months. Solo on the other hand, has not won a singles match in ROH since April. He’s also probably still hearing bells after the beating that Tomohio Ishii laid on him last week.

Solo jumped Shibata as soon as he got in the ring, beating him up and tossing him out of the ring. Solo’s strategy seemed to be to take away the “wrestler” skills from Shibata and force him to brawl on the outside. He threw Shibata into barricades, stairs, chairs, whatever he could find. But he got cocky and Shibata showed him that he knows a thing or two about brawling as well. He beat up Solo and tossed him back into the ring.

Shibata laid some hard chops into Solo in the corner and then stomped him in the center of the ring. Solo hit a surprise exploder suplex to even things out. Shibata came back with a Cobra Twist into a Octopus hold and that was it for Solo. He tapped and Shibata’s win streak continued.

Komander defeated Josh Woods

Komander is a fun, high-flying luchador and Woods is a large, technical and brutal brawler. Having defeated Woods’ stablemate Ariya Daivari in October, Komander would love to add Wood’s name to is beaten list. Woods for his part has suffered losses to Tomohiro Ishii, AR Fox (of all people) and then-ROH Champion Mark Briscoe. Despite this, Mark Sterling declared that the Premier Athletes are “winners!”

For some reason here during Komander’s entrance, they showed two people in the crowd cosplaying as Meg and Peter Griffin from Family Guy. No one acknowledged it, but it was weird enough I thought I should mention it.

Woods immediately went to his amateur background, trying to keep Komander on the mat and take away his speed. Komander was able to take advantage of what little space he had though and bring the momentum firmly into his corner.

Woods then realized that he is bigger than Komander, so he picked him up and threw him outside the ring where Sterling delivered a few stomps for good luck. Back in the ring, Woods started feeding elbows to Komander. He made a mistake though and gave Komander some space which the luchadore jumped on, literally and figuratively.

Komander used the ropes for a springboard splash on to Woods. He tried it again, but Woods got his knee up, surprising Komander. Komander tried setting up for a big dive, but Sterling tripped him up. Komander’s Hype Man jumped in and delivered a spear to Sterling. Komander then hit a rope-walk head butt on a prone Woods and got the win.

Abadon defeated Viva Van

Abadon failed to win the ROH Women’s title from Athena a couple of weeks ago in a “Ring of Horror Match” and as such, was in an awesome mood. They screamed, grunted and smashed everything Viva Van-shaped in the ring. Van attempted a few soft flurries of offense, but Abadon, a literal zombie, wasn’t really having any of it.

Van resorted to a hair-lock(?) on Abadon, trying anything she could to put Abadon away. It didn’t work though and Abadon no-sold it with screams and hit a surprise cutter on Van. They followed that up with a Black Dahlia and got the win, squash complete.

-Backstage an emergency MeM broke out with Lexy Nair demanding that Billie Starkz apologize to Athena. Athena was unimpressed with Starkz’ outfit and blew her off. Suddenly, Leila Grey appeared to let everyone know that Top Flight was the best. That was literally what she showed up to say. Athena laughed and said she could have a Proving Ground match next week.

ROH Classic Match: Hyan vs ROH Women’s Champion Athena (Orlando 26.02.2023)

The Classic ROH Content this week was Athena’s first Proving Ground match as champion against Hyan, who was all over the indies at the time. It was a decent match (guess who won!) that we all enjoyed and then moved on.

The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) defeated Jimmy Diaz & Matt Raven

Diaz and Raven had no chance here. Vincent and Dutch are a team that doesn’t care about pesky things like rules and such. They are into violence and lately, the ROH Tag Team Championships around the waists of Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara. The champs were jumped by the Righteous earlier in the show, so it was easy to see that they were in a good mood, which is even scarier when talking about the Righteous. They were looking to take it out on Diaz and Raven, who according to my research, are not only making their ROH debut, but possibly having their first match ever. Hell of a way to start.

Vincent started things off against whichever one was in Blue tights (Raven, as it turns out. Though he had “magnum” on his tights). Vincent toyed with him and then tagged in Dutch for a Side Effect and dual dropkicks. Diaz tagged in and didn’t fare any better, taking an Orange Sunshine and then a big double team similar to what took out Sammy Guevara earlier. Vincent pinned him and it was all over but the shouting.

By shouting, I mean the dulcet tones of Vincent as he grabbed a mic for a promo. He said that the Righteous are forcing their way into the tag title picture. He said they should have been champions a long time ago and Sammy and Dustin will not have those belts for long. Dutch agreed and mocked Rhodes with the cowbell he hit him with earlier. It was Rhodes’ childhood cow bell (which is a thing in Texas I presume). Dutch talked about Dusty Rhodes, saying that Dusty wanted him to be his son instead of Dustin. That’s why Dutch got the cow bell.

ROH Women’s World Television Title Street Fight: Red Velvet (c) defeated Diamante

Diamante is at her craziest when there are no rules and Red Velvet has been up to whatever challenge comes across her plate while holding the ROH Women’s TV Title. Velvet has been spending a lot of time in CMLL in the last month or so, which means it’s possible she had a few tricks up her sleeve that Diamante wouldn’t see coming. Diamante survived the Texas Death Match against Leyla Hirsch at Death Before Dishonor, so she knows how to handle herself when the rules are out the window.

Diamante brought a trash can full of weapons to the ring and got the jump on Velvet off the top. She tried to set up a shot with the belt, but Velvet reversed it and followed up with a trash can shot to Diamante. Diamante responded by putting Velvet in the trash can and drop kicking it. She then sent Velvet’s face into a steel chair several times. Next, she tried to choke Velvet with a big ol’ chain.

Velvet managed to get a sneaky stunner on Diamante to turn the tide. She bulldogged Diamante onto that chair and threw her into the garbage can face-first. Velvet pulled a ladder from under the ring and introduced it to Diamante via hip-toss. Propping the ladder against the ropes, Velvet laid out Diamante on top of it. Velvet went for a top rope leg drop, but Diamante rolled off the ladder.

The two brawled around the ladder, with Velvet ending up on it this time. Diamante climbed the ropes and hit a big splash through Velvet and the ladder. Diamante then brought at table into the ring. She set it up in the corner, but Velvet got her with a chair before she could use it. Velvet put Diamante on the table and went to the top rope. Diamante slid off though, knocking Velvet off balance. She gabbed Velvet and superplexed her through the table from the top rope.

Velvet got to her feet first and hit a Mama’s Kitchen on Diamante, driving her head into the TV Title belt. That did it and Velvet picked up the win, retaining her title. Super fun matchm and a great way to end the show!

Ring of Honor TV live results: Sammy Guevara, Katsuyori Shibata in action

This week’s Ring of Honor on HonorClub will feature a smorgasbord of talent and several key matches as December’s Final Battle begins to form.

ROH Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara will be in singles action against Preston Vance. The assumed next challengers to Guevara and Dustin Rhodes’ titles — The Righteous — will also be in action.

In what should be a hard-hitting bout, former ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata will battle The Butcher.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena will hold an emergency meeting of her minions following last week’s title defense over Abadon.

AR Fox will take on former Pure Champion Josh Woods while past title challenger Diamante goes heads-up with Rachael Ellering.

After pinning Chris Jericho on Wednesday, Tomohiro Ishii continues his march toward an ROH World title match as he faces Aaron Solo.

The rest of the card is rounded out by The Infantry, the returning Leyla Hirsch, Angelico & Serpentico, Lee Johnson & EJ Nduka, and The Patriarchy’s Nick Wayne.

**********

With absolutely nothing of interest or importance happening in any part of the USA, all eyes were fixed firmly on Ring of Honor on Honorclub Episode 89!

The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean) (w/Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor) defeated Tom Mitchell & Trace Parker

Last week, the Infantry shocked everyone by signing up with Shane Taylor Promotions. This immediately helped them get a somewhat shady win over Spanish Announce Project, which possibly signalled a heel turn for the group. This week, they have significantly less imposing foes in Mitchell and Parker who… well, they were there.

Bravo started off against Parker, taking the greener wrestler to the woodshed quickly. The Infantry’s newfound agression was on full display as Dean grabbed Parker from the outside, choking him behind the ref’s back. Taylor was very pleased by this. Mitchell jumped in to help his partner and ate a Boot Camp but Parker was the legal man, so the Infantry gave him a “Two To The Head” to pin him. Mitchell never legally entered the match.

Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated LSG & Shawn Donavan

As mentioned, last week Serpentico and Angelico lost in dubious fashion to The Infantry. It’s cool though, and the laid-back duo looked to right the ship with a win over the first-time pair, LSG and Donavan. LSG has been popping up this year as part of the horribly-named Ace of Space Academy, but professional Dax Harwood impersonator Donavan hasn’t been seen in ROH in over 5 years.

It was beef vs bean (string bean that is) as Angelico and Donavan kicked things off. The shorter Donavan had the density of a dying sun, so Angelico wasn’t able to get him off his feet, allowing him to lock in the longest wrist lock I’ve ever seen. Donavan was so dialed in, Serpentico had to break it up from the top rope.

From there, the tandem offence of SAP was the story. They were able to keep both Donavan and LSG on their heels and making sloppy mistakes. LSG and Donavan got some decent work in against Serpentico, but Serpentico’s speed was able to deke them out and bring in Angelico.

Even though his partner is Serpentico, Angelico might be part snake the way he was able to slide and slither around LSG. He locked him into a crazy hammerlock/abdominal stretch/airplane spin that caused him to tap out.

-ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty cut a promo from backstage. He called out Matt Taven, who had entered the Pure Division for the first time last week, in advance of their inevitable PURE Championship match in the future. Spoiler: Moriarty does not think Taven will win.

Sammy Guevara (w/Dustin Rhodes) defeated Preston Vance

Last week, Guevara and Rhodes, the reigning ROH Tag Champions were called out, confronted and then jumped by The Righteous, Vincent and Dutch. They are looking to take those titles and being The Righteous, they don’t care if they do it in a strictly “legal” way. But it remained to be seen if they would cause some chaos in Guevara’s match with Vance.

Guevara gave up a bit to Vance in terms of muscle, but right off the top Guevara’s speed had him in control. That speed came back to bite him though as Vance caught him with a back elbow while he was running the ropes. That didn’t slow Guevara down though as he took Vance to the outside a drove him in to the guardrails, while Rhodes watched diligently for any sign of The Righteous.

As much fun as it was watching a guy named Vance get punched in the face, it came to an end when Guevara hit a big cutter followed by a GTH for the win. Rhodes joined him in the ring, still standing guard with a steel chair. Suddenly, the lights got all weird and the sound of snapping was heard. Vincent and Dutch were nowhere to be found though.

EJ Nduka & Lee Johnson defeated The Philly Marino Experience (Marino Tenaglia & Philly Collins)

Now that Nduka and Johnson have officially joined forces, it’s gotta make a lot of other teams in ROH nervous. Especially The Philly Marino Experience (which sounds like a hip new Tapas spot, by the way) who were making what appears to be their ROH Debut. Excellent way to do it, I’m sure it’ll work out great for them.

[Ron Howard Voice]: It did not.

Johnson started the match against Tenaglia which was a nice matchup in terms of size and speed. Johnson’s experience gave him the advantage though and he was able to keep Tenaglia off his feet and firmly in a chin lock.

Nduka then tagged in and to his credit, Tenaglia didn’t burst into terrified tears. He took a swing ot two and Nduka picked him up like a loaf of bread and threw him across the ring. Several times in fact. Collins tagged in and even though he had a bit more size, didn’t fare much better. Nduka kicked, punched and threw both of them around with ease.

Johnson tagged back in and hit a frog splash, pinning what was left of Collins to get the win. These guys are fun to watch, but Nduka needs to expand his move set a bit just to keep things interesting.

-ROH Women’s Champion Athena called an emergency MEM (Minion Empowerment Meeting) in the back. Athena managed to barely hold onto her title against Abadon last week, so she has some things to say to her MiT’s (Minions In Training). Athena said the she is ready to take on porcelain hussies all around the world. Suddenly, Billie Starkz appeared. While Lexy Nair has been loyal to the Forever Champion, Starkz has been pretty moody and uninterested in helping the champion out. Athena left in a huff, leaving Nair to deal with Starkz. Nair put Starkz in Minion Time Out and walked out after the champ.

Diamante defeated Rachael Ellering

Ellering has been trading fashion tips with Harley Cameron and this match is her return to the ROH ring for the first time since August. Ellering’s Tag Team Partner, Leyla Hirsch has had beef with Diamante for a long, violent time. Speaking of which, Diamante failed to capture the ROH Women’s TV Title a few weeks back, but did pick up a win last week against Aminah Belmont.

Diamante had the adventage off the top because though she be wee, she be very, very strong. Ellering was able to hold her own though, as well as hold Diamante by the waist in a gut wrench suplex. Ellering tried a senton, but telegraphed it and Diamante was ready with knees up. Diamante’s mean streak was on display as the dragged Ellering’s face along the rope between turnbuckles.

Ellering caught Diamante with a huge back elbow and landed her Squish senton, but Diamante wasn’t done yet. She raked the eyes while the ref couldn’t see and landed a huge DDT to make Ellering’s night a bad one. Afterwards, Diamante called out ROH Women’s TV Champion Red Velvet who appeared in the ring and hit her with a big spinning kick. Diamante retreated up the ramp while the two debated the places they were from.

Leyla Hirsch defeated Tina San Antonio

Leyla Hirsch is back! Hirsch’s last match was the excellent Texas Death Match against Diamante at Death Before Dishonor back in July. Hirsch won that match, but injury put her on the shelf for a bit. Now that she’s back, will she still have trouble with Diamante? Or will she start the climb towards a bigger prize, namely ROH Women’s Champion, Athena? And will San Antonio get a surprise upset in her ROH Debut? So many questions, so much time to answer them.

HIrsch looked good off the top. She wrestles a fast, technical style and it looked like her injury hadn’t cost her a step. San Antonio had a bit of a height advantage, but Hirsch was fired up and managed get out of everything San Antonio threw at her.

Hirsch managed to catch San Antonio with a huge knee to the head and get the pin to win, looking like she had never left in the first place.

-Backstage, Matt Taven responded to Lee Moriarty’s earlier promo. Taven has won every title in ROH except the Pure title. So Moriarty better be ready because Taven’s bringing it home to the Kingdom.

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Aaron Solo

Ishii, a proud member of the Conglomeration, stomped down to the ring to face former Nightmare Family member Solo. Presumably, Ishii would then stomp on Solo, and stomp back to the locker room. The man likes to stomp. Solo has not won a match in ROH since April. So this will work out fine for him, I’m sure.

It almost seemed mean to put Solo up against Ishii. Solo, tall and thin, had very little defence against the sheer strength and power of Ishii. Every punch and attempt to send Ishii to the ropes was shrugged off, frustrating Solo. Ishii unleashed the chops and Solo was lucky his lungs didn’t pop out.

Ishii tried to pin Solo off of a side suplex, but Solo, a glutton for punishment, kicked out at two. Solo tried to take the match to the air with a big double stomp from the top rope, but took too long to pin Ishii, who crushed him with a big lariat. Ishii got Solo up and then brought him down with a big Brainbuster and got the pin.

-The Righteous headed out to the ring for a match and were immediately jumped by Rhodes and Guevara in payback for the attack by Vincent and Dutch last week. Security came down to break up the melee, but Dutch got busted open in the process. Everyone seemed to forget that there was a match scheduled and the ROH Tag Champs, Rhodes and Guevara stood tall as the Righteous exited up the ramp.

Nick Wayne (w/Kip Sabian & Mother Wayne) defeated Ryan Clancy

Wayne has been making some noise for The Patriarchy in ROH recently, this time bringing Mother Wayne and Kip Sabian with him. A couple of weeks ago Wayne came out on top in a match against Brian Cook. This week, he’s up against (checks notes) “Fancy” Ryan Clancy, who is (checks notes again) a wrestler.

Clancy ended up being a pretty decent bruiser, wrestling a “classic” style and keeping up with Wayne in both speed and intensity. Wayne had him beat in the posing department though, hands down.

After a very impressive flurry of Clancy offence, Wayne picket up speed with a series of near falls. Clancy responded with a few near falls of his own, making it seem like an upset was close. Wayne kicked out every time though while Mother Wayne looked on.

Clancy climbed to the top rope, but Wayne pushed the Ref into the ropes causing him to fall. Wayne hit a dragon suplex followed by a huge cutter from the corner to get the win.

-The Infantry and STP entered the ROH locker room backstage. They were met byt 4 NPC’s dressed in black. Taylor asked if they had seen Rhodes and Guevera. When no one had, The Infantry and STP beat up the men. Taylor then called out the ROH Tag Champs, saying that STP wants those titles back. Guevara and Rhodes have several targets on their backs now.

ROH Classic Match: ROH World Six Man Tag Team Title Match: Shane Taylor Promotions (Kaun, Moses & Shane Taylor) vs MexiSquad (Bandido, Flamita & Rey Horus)(c) (Baltimore, Maryland, USA, Feb 19, 2021)

With Taylor and company hunting down the Tag and Six Man Tag belts in ROH, it made sense to see this classic match from the Pandemic era of pro wrestling and, well, life. Maria Kanellis joined the commentary team for this match and she added some really fun color. It was a hard-hitting affair and definitely worth 9 minutes of your time.

AR Fox defeated Josh Woods (w/Ariya Daivari & Mark Sterling)

Fox got his first ROH singles win three weeks ago against the one and only Jack Cartwheel. He’s looking to add to those stats against the Premier Athlete and Very Large Dude, Woods. Not that he needs the help, but Wood’s teammates Daiavari and Sterling accompanied him to the ring, while Tony Nese is still out relentlessly celebrating the birth of his twins.

Sterling added “flogging our new shirt” to his opening schtick as the Athletes came down to the ring. Fox, in what can only be assumed was a move of protest, came down to the ring with no shirt on at all. Woods and Fox stood at about the same height, but Woods had the upper pectoral in the muscle department.

Woods tried to keep things technical and on the mat where he excels. Fox wasn’t used to that and he seemed confused as to how to proceed. Finally, he settled on a headlock while he figured out his strategy. Fox figured out he had the high-flying advantage and hit a big splash on the outside.

As the match progressed, Fox tried to leap over a running Woods but caught his foot on his opponent and smashed his face into the match. That gave Woods an opening to club a prone Fox. Sterling got involved behind the Ref’s back and hung Fox up on the ropes for Woods to pick apart.

Woods went for a cocky cover, but Fox kicked out and spiked Woods on his head with a big second rope DDT. Fox got his second win and hit a swanton. The fight moved to the outside where Fox drove Wood’s head into the mat. Back in the ring, Fox went for a springboard from the top rope, but hit his face on Woods’ knee on the way down.

Fox tried again, but Woods attempted to knock him off the top rope. The agile Fox rolled through though and hit a 450 splash to pick up the surprise win! Then a wild Nick Wayne appeared and took Fox apart. Fox and Wayne have a match coming up on Collision.

Katsuyori Shibata defeated The Butcher

This match was taped way back in June of this year, but only made it to air now. One can only assume it fell behind a filing cabinet or something. The Butcher was making his ROH Singles debut here while his partner, The Blade, recovers from back fusion surgery. Shibata is, well, The Wrestler. That’s because he’s very good at wrestling and hasn’t lost a match in ROH in 2024.

Butcher had about 50 lbs and 6 inches on Shibata, but see above. Shibata drove him into the corner off the top, leading to Butcher moving into a more technical strategy. It was a big risk taking on one of the best technical wrestlers in the world in his preferred style, but Butcher had a plan. He drew Shibata out of the ring and then drove him into the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!).

Back in the ring, Butcher’s powerful strikes kept Shibata on the ground and Butcher locked in a one-legged crab hold. Shibata wrigged under the ropes to break the hold, and sent Butcher to the corner to take a big double dropkick.

Butcher fought back and tried to set Shibata up for brain buster, but Shibata countered and put on a sleeper hold followed by a big PK to put the Butcher down for good, closing out the show.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena vs. Abadon Halloween Ring of Horror match

Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will put her record-breaking title run on the line as part of tonight’s ROH show on HonorClub against Abadon.

The match won’t be of the traditional variety, but will be a Halloween Ring of Horror match, assumed to be a hardcore match. Athena has held the title for nearly 700 days with 23 title defenses to her credit.

After returning last week on AEW TV, Tomohiro Ishii will be in action against Josh Woods while in a Pure rules match, Matt Taven of the Undisputed Kingdom will battle Aaron Solo.

In tag team action, the reluctant pairing of JD Drake & Beef will take on Peter Avalon & Preston Vance.

CMLL’s Reyna Isis will look to go 2-0 in ROH action as she goes one-on-one with Lady Frost.

Johnny TV, Billie Starkz and the Gates of Agony will all be in action against opponents to be named.

**********

It was sure to be chock full of tricks, but with even more treats as the extra-sized Halloween Edition of Ring of Honor on Honorclub hit the air for the 88th time! Starting with a promo from none other than The Righteous! Vincent and Dutch lamented the snakes in the industry and called out ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara. The Righteous are snakes too and they want those belts.

BEEF & JD Drake defeated Peter Avalon & Preston Vance

So, BEEF is becoming very popular. It might be his infectious enthusiasm, it might be his family loyalty, it might be his chiseled physique. But for whatever reason, he’s becoming a big deal. Drake is of course the partner of BEEF’s cousin, Anthony Henry (who is currently on the shelf for about 6 weeks with an injury). So, after weeks of begging to meet Drake, BEEF got the chance to actually tag with him! Drake wasn’t as excited as BEEF though, so the alliance was uneasy. Avalon and Vance were also there.

BEEF and Vance kicked things off and it became clear that this match was going to boil down to fitness vs… BEEF and Drake. The strength factor was pretty even though, with Vance giving as good as he got, while BEEF no-sold his offence until a stalling suplex from Vance put him on his back. Avalon did have a bit of a size disadvantage, especially when up against Drake. But he was slippery and the bigger men had a hard time getting a hold of him.

BEEF and Drake actually managed to get some cohesivness, calling out moves to each other and trading tags in a way that made it seem like they had been teaming for years. That might be an interesting thing to keep in mind for the return of Anthony Henry in a few weeks.

Vance and Avalon looked good too. Avalon’s expressive face was hilarious when getting chopped and Vance brought a ton of skill and strength to the team. A miscommunication found Avalon on the recieving end of a Vance lariat though, so it may be a short lived team up.

Drake grabbed the prone Avalon in the ring and BEEF hit him with a big frog splash to get the win. Drake was a little annoyed as he was setting him up for his own finisher, but in the end he was happier with the win than without.

Johnny TV defeated Deonn Rusman

One thing that Rusman is very good at is being beaten up by big dudes. Brian Cage, Lance Archer and EJ Nduka have all clocked wins against Rusman in the last few months. Now TV isn’t necessarily the biggest guy in the sport, but he wrestles like he is. TV’s last ROH match was a loss to Komander, so TV would be looking to right the ship a bit here and Rusman seemed like a good enough candidate to let him do it!

TV jumped Rusman right off the top, taking him to the ground then doing a really good Ravishing Rick Rude impression. Rusman got mad at that and decided to run face-first into TV’s foot about it. Rusman showed some signs of live right up until TV kicked him in junk. Like, blatantly. But the ref didn’t seem interested.

I have to be honest. TV did his best to make this match look good, but Rusman just couldn’t keep up with him. There was a lot of missed and illogical spots that made it a relief when TV hit three rolling neckbreakers and Starship Pain to put an end to it.

Gates Of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) defeated CSJ & Dave Dutra

Last week, Kaun and Liona had a great match against the Infantry that they ultimately won. This week, they look to continue that momentum against CSJ and Dutra. This would be Dutra’s ROH debut. CSJ aka CantStopJamaal aka Jamaal Starkz had less information available on him, so I presumed this was his ROH Debut as well, for what it was worth.

Kaun was literally laughing as he and Dutra started things off. He and Liona isolated and assaulted Dutra, but Dutra managed to get the tag to CSJ when he was literally thrown across the ring at him. Kaun and Liona beat up CSJ on the out side so brutally you could hear the ringside fans exclaim “oh my God!”

Back in the ring, Liona sat on CSJ while Kuan posed and that’s how they got the win.

-The Tag champs, Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes, addressed the Righteous’ challenge from earlier. They accepted the match and Rhodes told the Righteous to keep his family’s name out of their mouths because he’s from Texas, and they know how to deal with snakes down there: you cut their heads off. Rhodes and Guevara promised to be present for the Righteous’ match later in the show.

Reyna Isis defeated Lady Frost

Frost has had an up and down year, splitting her time between ROH and AEW and amassing a 12-23 record.  She had a chance to move up a tier a couple of weeks ago in a Proving Ground Match against ROH Women’s Champion Athena, but ended up short. Isis on the other hand, on a break from about a thousand CMLL matches, beat up Viva Van last week.

Equal in size and strength, this was a pretty good back and forth match between two international stars. Isis spent a lot of time on the top rope, running rolls and splashes. Frost ate a lot of offence but wa able to keep up and return the favor.

Frost thought she had the one-up on Isis with a big rolling cannonball in the corner. That just work Isis up though and she sat Frost down on the second rope to deliver a guillotine leg drop from the top rope for the win.

This was a really fun match, but the extra cherry on top was the commentary team trying to break down Isis’ moves into anatomical scientific terms like two second-year kinesiology students at a lecture.

Pure Rules Match: Matt Taven defeated Aaron Solo

While he’s had some success outside of ROH you have to go back to April to find Solo’s last win on Honorclub. Taven on the other hand took a shot at the ROH World Championship at the beginning of October and he and his Undisputed Kingdom partner Mike Bennett are perpetually in the Tag Title hunt.

This match was a Pure Rules Match, which meant that each competitor would get three rope breaks and one closed fist warning. In the event that it goes to the time limit, a panel of judges would award the win based on points. This would be Taven’s first Pure Rules match so it would be interesting to see if he could adapt.

Solo actually spent the first few minutes of the match in control, with Taven seeming a little hesitant to work within the confines of the Pure Rules. He figured it out though and began leaning on his technical ability to try and put Solo down.

Solo used his first rope break about a minute in and shortly thereafter, Taven appeared to injure his knee. Solo took advantage with big kicks and knees of his own. Taven battled back from it though and locked in a crossface, forcing Solo to use his second rope break at 4:31. Solo used his final rope break thirty seconds later to prevent a pin.

Taven hit a front slam into another crossface and Solo tapped out, giving Taven the win. ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty appeared at the top of the ramp and Taven called for his belt, the only one in ROH that Taven has not held.

-Remember the promos that BEEF and Anthony Henry used to do where BEEF was overly excited and Henry would be upset about it, even though they just got a win? Well, they did one of those but with Drake instead of Henry.

The Righteous (Dutch & Vincent) defeated Jay Marsten & Solomon Tupu

The Righteous are one of the most consistently entertaining teams in ROH. They don’t care much for rules and such, but they are fun to watch. Marsten and Tupu were making their ROH debuts, but everyone was watching the top of the ramp for the Tag Champs.

Vincent started off against Marsten, but he and Dutch exchanged tags at record speed for some reason, each one getting a shot or two in before the other swapped out.

Tupu got beat up by Drake and Marsten got pinned by Vincent and that was about it for the match.

Afterwards, Vincent and Dutch started beating up Tupu in the center of the ring. Vincent smashed his leg with a chair with Dutch adding his railroad spike for good measure. As they lined up Marsten for the same, Guevara and Rhodes arroved and ran down to the ring!

Guevara grabbed a chair and the Righteous bolted, leaving the champions standing tall.

Tomohiro Ishii defeated Josh Woods

Josh Woods is a very big Premier Athlete and Ishii is a very big part of The Conglomeration. Together, they are two very big dudes who like hurting people, so this match had all the potential to be a “Knocker of Slobber” if you will. Woods was accompanied to the ring by Mark Sterling and Aria Daivari (3rd Athlete Tony Nese was off celebrating the birth of his twins!).

Ishii refused a Code of Honor and the two leapt into a series of amateur-looking holds and catch-style grapples. Woods had the size on Ishii, but Ishii’s pure strength and toughness more than made up for that. Ishii fed chops to Woods like they were Skittles and Woods responded with big stomps in the corner.

The two men beat the hell out of each other from there. Massive chops, huge slams and lots of screaming. Ishii has the density of a dying sun and so Woods’ attempts to throw him around didn’t go anywhere and made the ring shake when he found a ringpost.

Ishii got Woods up in a stalling brainbuster and dropped him like a sack of cement. That led to a pin and Daivari jumping Ishii in the ring. Ishii’s Conglomerate pal Kyle O’Reilly ran in to even the odds and the Athletes slunk away.

-Rhodes and Guevara cut a promo from the back. They were REALLY mad that the Righteous tried to hurt their opponent and yelled about it. Suddenly Vincent and Dutch appeared and jumped the champions, laying them out and posing with their belts.

Action Andretti & Top Flight (Dante Martin & Darius Martin) defeated Trip Jordy, Dante Leon & Jah-C

Andretti has been acting a little strangely lately. A potential Andretti heel turn was teased during the taping of this week’s Collision, I won’t spoil anything here, so check that out for more information. Leon was last seen in ROH at the end of August in a losing effort against the Gates of Agony. This match would be Jah-C’s ROH debut for 2024 and Jordy had blue tights.

The match itself was fine, all six men have great speed and agility. Top Flight and Andretti had the benefit of being a cohesive team though, so they obviously had the advantage. They were able to tag in and out in what seemed like a fluid rotation, keeping whoever was legal from the other team completely overwhelmed.

Of the three newcomers, Jah-C impressed the most. He had speet and power and seemed like a lot more of a threat to Top Flight and Andretti. He had great sequences with all three.

In the end though, Duante finally put down Dante and Andretti and Top Flight got the win.

ROH Classic Match: Jay Lethal vs Curry Man (29.10.2005, Connecticut, USA)

The only reasoning for showing this match that I could figure out was “Curry Man wears a mask and it’s Halloween.” I love the classic ROH content, but its a lot more exciting in the context of a current story, match or wrestler. Neither Jay Lethal or Curry Man (aka Christopher Daniels) had anything to do with anything. Those two are very good at wrestling, so it was neat to watch. But somewhat pointless in the grand scheme of things.

Billie Starkz defeated Blair Onyx

Billie Starkz has always been a petulant teenager. But now, she’s a petulant teenager with an axe to grind against her former (Sister? Friend?) idol Athena. That didn’t bode well for Onyx, who was making her ROH Debut here.

Starkz had the upper hand in pure talent and size and wasted no time bratting her way into Onyx’ personal space. She seemed to be dialed up a bit more than usual, and was a lot more aggressive. A particularly vicious moment was a front flapjack slam that flattened Onyx’ face.

Onyx missed an elbow drop that led to a two count, infuriating Starkz. She caught Onyx in midair and planted her to the mat for the win.

The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean) w/Lee Moriarty & Shane Taylor defeated Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico)

The Infantry and Shane Taylor Productions have always been friends. No better example could be made of this than the footage they showed of them backstage, agreeing to join Shane Taylor Promotions, officially! The SAP were cool with it, as they are with most things. Both of these teams deserved to be in the Tag Team title conversation and a win here would definitely push them into it.

Angelico and Dean started things off, with Dean in particular showing a lot more power than usual. He tagged in Bravo and he too seemed to have a different attitude, harder strikes, and more aggression. SAP were able to counter with their speed and agility, but even they seemed surprised and the Infanty’s new vibe.

Shane Taylor stomped down to the ring and distracted the Ref giving Trish Adora a chance to kick Angelico in the junk on the outside. The Infantry beat up both members of SAP on the ramp before tossing them back in to beat the 20 count.

Back in the ring, The infantry beat up an isolated Serpentico while Angelico was still recovering on the ramp. Dean bounced Serpentico’s face off the second turnbuckle and Bravo hit a high knee, but Serpentico kicked out at two.

Angelico arrived out of nowhere and cleaned house, saving his partner. Moriarty jumped into the ring and hit Angelico with a foreign object, knocking him cold and letting the Infantry pick up the win.

Diamante defeated Aminah Belmont

Diamante’s win-loss record for 2024 sits at 10-11. That includes a loss to Leyla Hirsch (who’s return to ROH is imminent) in a Texas Death Match and a failed attempt at taking the Women’s TV title from Red Velvet. Belmont, making her ROH debut, lost to Nyla Rose in 90 seconds on Collision in August and hasn’t been seen since.

It seemed to be part of her gimmick, but Belmont looked like a child in the ring with Diamante. It was no surprise to see Diamante dominate here. Huge supllexes, double stomps and a twisting DDT made short work of Belmont as Diamante picked up the win.

-Backstage, Lexy Nair congratulated Billie Starkz on her win, but they need to be focused on Athena’s match tonight and show their support. Starkz said that she was taking her “MIT Day Off” for this one and left, leaving Nair terrified of what awaited with Abadon.

The Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver and Alex Reynolds) defeated Jakked Jameson & The Iron Savages (Bronson and Boulder)

This unannounced Trios match started off with Silver against Bronson. Silver was dwarfed by the bigger man, so Uno tagged in and along with him came the momentum. Reynolds didn’t fare as well though, with Bronson targeting his injured ribs. Boulder tagged in and continued the pattern.

The match plodded on with the Savages and Jameson doing their schtick and the Dark Order trying to wrestle a match around it. Uno tagged in Silver and they tried a triple team on Bronson but couldn’t do it because of Reynolds injured ribs. Chaos broke out and somewhere in there, Reynolds pinned Bronson.

Komander defeated Ariya Daivari

Komander had a chance to claim the ROH TV title from Brian Cage last week, but failed to continue getting up from being thrown at the ground. So now, he moves on to face Daivari of the Premier Athletes. Daivari was accompanied by Mark Sterling and Josh Woods. Tony Nese was still celebrating his twins, I assume.

With these two in the ring, the match was practically predestined to be great. Both had the speed and athleticism, with Daivari having the strength and conditioning advantage and Komander bringing the high-flying. The two battled in the ring while the commentators reminded everyone to vote on Election day, which you absolutely should do.

Sterling jumped up to cause a distraction and Daivari knocked Komander off the top rope. Working the back, Daivari threw Komander to the outside where Sterling and Woods stomped on him and tossed him back in the ring where Daivari applied a sleeper. Komander fought out though and the match carried on.

Daivari took out Komander with a vicious superkick, but missed the followup splash. Komander went for one of his own, but Sterling made the save and Woods hit Komander from behind. It wasn’t enough though, and Sterling distracted the ref. Komander hit a big running flip from the top rope on all three on the outside.

Komander threw Daivari back into the ring and hit a top rope equalizer to pick up the win.

-The new ROH World Champion Chris Jericho cut a promo endorsing Athena in her match tonight and wishing everyone a Happy Halloween. Thanks guys!!

ROH Women’s World Title Halloween Ring Of Horror Match: Athena (c) defeated Abadon

Halloween is the one day a year when Abadon is able to break from her otherworldly chains and walk amongst the living! Ok, that may not be entirely the case, as Abadon has been stalking Athena for months now, but last week during Athena’s Celebration of her Record-Breaking title run in ROH, Abandon did commit murder by using Athena’s face to murder a costco cake. Hanging over Athena’s head as well was Billie Starkz, a Minion In Training who might be looking to add “former” to that title.

As part of the Halloween Ring of Horror Match, the two were cuffed together with a chain between them. Abadon used that to her advantage, pulling Athena to her to face some hard strikes. Athena fought out and sent her to the outside. Athena tried a chait trick, but Abadon had a Kendo stick. Athena blocked it with a garbage can lid.

Athena grabbed a barbwire bat from a trash can and took a few swings, hitting Abadon in the midsection. Athena destroyed a few Jack o lanterns in order to use the table they were on. As she was setting it up though, Abadon charged her and drove her into the table. It did not break, so she tried again. And again. Finally on the fourth try, Athena’s body broke the table.

Back in the ring, Abadon and Athena traded punches and shots against the ropes. Both of them needed to figure out how to work around the chain that bound them together. Athena produced a ladder from under the ring and Abadon kicked it back into her face. Abadon set up the ladder in the corner and Athena drilled her with a trash can. It was painted orange, so it was definitely a Halloween Trash Can.

Abadon set Athena up on the ladder in the corner and hit a senton onto her from the top rope, earning a “fight forever” chant from the crowd. Abadon hit a double stomp on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring!) and pulled a chair on Athena along with a bag of thumbtacks! She spread them on the outside of the ring, but Athena used the opening to hit her with a chair.

Athena hit a side slam off the top rope, but it only got a two count. Athena grabbed a Kendo stick, but the Ref could see that something was amiss. The chain had broken free from Athena’s wrist but before he could fix it, she nailed Abadon with the kendo stick. Then the chain was fixed.

Abadon set up Athena on an overturned staircase on the outside with intent to jump on her from a great height. Athena fought back though and powerbombed Abadon onto the staircase! It looked like it was done, but Abadon kicked out at two.

Athena then tied up Abadon with the chain. In ran Lexy Nair who passed Athena a handful of meat skwewers that she promptly drove into Abadon’s head. Three of them were stuck in her scalp as she rose, a terrified Athena backed up trying to escape, but the chain held her firm. Abadon dragged her to the outside and hit a swinging slam on the thumbtacks.

Athena went to the outside and grabbed a bottle, smashing it over Abadon’s head. She then drove her into a trio of steel chairs with a flip from the top rope. That put Abadon down and Athena got the pin, extending her record-breaking reign as ROH Women’s Champion.

Just as a note, this was a good show. But it was three hours long. That’s too long.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena Women’s World title celebration

Reigning Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will celebrate her record-breaking reign on tonight’s ROH on HonorClub.

Athena has surpassed Samoa Joe as the longest-reigning champion in company history and will be joined by minions Billie Starkz and Lexy Nair to celebrate her accomplishments.

After earning a men’s TV title match last week, Komander will challenge current ROH TV Champion Brian Cage. Komander is looking for his first title of any kind in AEW or ROH while this is Cage’s first defense of the gold he won earlier this month.

CMLL’s Reyna Isis will make her promotional debut as she battles Viva Van.

Rocky Romero will challenge Brandon Cutler of The Elite.

The show will feature two tag team matches as the Gates of Agony face The Infantry while Lee Johnson & EJ Nduka team up for the very first time.

This week’s action was taped in San Jose, California.

**********

ROH on HonorClub Episode 87 hit the air with big news! “The Learning Tree” Chris Jericho won a Ladder War against Mark Briscoe on Dynamite this past Wednesday (with a little help from one “Large William”, aka Big Bill) making him the new Ring of Honor World Champion! What this means for ROH as whole remains to be seen, but it’s big big news!

Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) defeated The Infantry (Carlie Bravo & Shawn Dean)

With ROH TV Champion Brian Cage occupied elsewhere, his Cage of Agony partners reverted back to “Gates” to take on the Infantry. Dean and Bravo came in off of losses to STP and The Outrunners, so they were looking to right the ship here. Kaun and Liona for their part have to go back to August for their last win as a duo. Both teams had things to prove and it showed.

Kaun and Bravo started things off and it was an immediate case of strength vs agility. Kaun was twice as wide as the lighter Bravo, but the speed factor kept the two pretty even in the early going. Liona tagged in and flattened Bravo who desperately looked for a tag to Dean. Once he got it, Dean was all over Liona… right up until he ran face-first into a superkick.

From there the Gates took control. A series of sentons crushed Dean in the middle of the ring. Dean caused a distraction, allowing Bravo to throw Kaun into the barricade on the outside, softening him up. The Infantry isolated him from Liona and began raining down chops in the corner.

Off of a hot tag, Liona jumped in and cleaned house. At one point he had BOTH members of the Infantry on his shoulders for big powerslams. A miscommunication caused Liona to knock Kaun off the ring apron and the Infantry tried a double team, but Liona was too much for them. Kaun got back in and put Dean down for the count, extending the Infantry’s losing streak.

Reyna Isis defeated Viva Van

Poor, poor Viva Van. Van debuted in ROH on May 27th, 2022. She has had matches against Athena, Harley Cameron, Red Velvet and just last week, Yuka Sakazaki. All losses. In fact, Van has yet to win a match in ROH. Isis was actually in the same boat, but had an excuse as this was her ROH Debut. No matter what though, one woman was going to erase the “0” from the win column in her stats with this match.

The two were pretty evenly matched in size and power. Holds and strikes were exchanged during a prolonged feeling-out process until Van ate a big knee, causing my six year old to exclaim “Oh, Viva Van!”

Isis hung Van up in a tree of woe and driver her knees into her midsection. Van tried to get back into it with a spinning heel kick, but couldn’t land anything that kept Isis down for any length of time. Van changed her tactics and tried a reverse surfboard, but Isis wouldn’t quit.

Isis caught Van with a high crossbody followed by dual headbutts to regain momentum. A big guillotine leg drop finished off Van, who’s still looking for her first win in ROH.

-Backstage Leyla Hirsch cut a promo, revealing that she has been recovering from a shoulder injury. She’s coming back though, so everyone get ready because she wants championships.

Rocky Romero (w/Dunkson, mascot of the Stockton Kings basketball team) defeated Brandon Cutler

Romero was taking a break from his Conglomeration duties this week after his group beat The Elite on Dynamite in a trios match on the Oct 16th edition of Dynamite. Cutler on the other hand has been racking up the losses since getting a win over Evil Uno, back in May. Preston Vance, Colt Cabana, Katsuyori Shibata and even Jacoby Watts have managed to get Cutler’s shoulders to the mat.

Cutler jawed off the top, begging Romero to shake his hand. He did that, and then crushed him with a lariat. Cutler was able to keep up with Romero, but Romero was clearly in control. He had a counter and an offensive move for everything Cutler had in his bag of tricks.

Cutler managed to worm his way into control of the match with a sleeper hold. Romero fought out of it though, but Cutler missed a move from the top ropes and tried to bail to the outside. Romero followed with a big splash and threw him back into the ring.

Cutler tried to use the ropes to steal a pin, but Dunkston pointed it out to the Ref. Cutler began yelling at Dunkston, allowing Romero an opening to hit a flipping DDT and get the 1-2-3 for the win.

LEEJ (Lee Johnson and EJ Nduka) defeated Jiah Jewell and Bret Hankins

Johnson and Nduka have been pals for a long time, but this will mark the first time they have teamed up in ROH. Questionable team names aside, this promised to be a barn burner, showing off Johnson’s technical skills and Nduka’s sheer power. Nduka got a huge pop from the crowd as the two headed to the ring. Jewell and Hankins, who were either two local wrestlers, or part of the ring crew, looked comically small and thin in the ring with LEEJ.

Surprising no one, Johnson started off with Hankins and wrestled cicles around him. Nduka then tagged in to face Jewell and he hit him so hard his hairline receded. This wasn’t a David vs Goliath story it was more like a small twig vs Goliath.

Jewell and Hankins actually managed to isolate Johnson in the corner and get a little bit of offense in. It didn’t last long though as a hot tag to Nduka resulted in the spontaneous explosion of both competitors. Not really, but he hit them so hard both appeared to do 450 spins in midair. Johnson and Nduka hit a spinebuster/neckbreaker combo on what was left of Jewell and got the pin.

Record-Breaking Celebration for ROH Women’s World Champion Athena

Back in September, Athena broke Samoa Joe’s record of 684 days (as of this writing) as champion in Ring of Honor. Since then, Minions Lexy Nair and Billie Starkz have been planning a massive celebration for the Forever Champion (that Athena really wanted Ja Rule to be part of for some reason). Unfortunately, work kept getting in the way with matches, Starkz’ tumbling down the Minion Rankings and Abadon stalking Athena with her eyes on the title.

To start things off, ROH showed a Classic Match: Athena vs then-ROH Women’s Champion Mercedes Martinez. The match was from December 10, 2022 at that year’s Final Battle PPV event. Obviously, Athena came out the winner and began her 684+ day reign as Champion and it was a really fun match!

Back in the here and now though, Billie Starkz had used the time to set up a ton of balloons, a store-bought cake (that per Wrestling Law, must end up on someone’s face) and decorations in the ring. Athena came down to her celebration still locked to Lexy Nair for “her protection” from Abadon. The MIT’s in the ring broke into a dance party and Athena called out that it was a pretty weak party. Where was Ja Rule?!? Athena sent all minions except Starkz and Nair to the back in disgust.

Athena lamented that she doesn’t get the respect she deserves, even from her own mother who shose to have “major surgery” instead of coming to her daughter’s Celebration. Athena clamied she was under-appreciated and deserved more than the crummy party. Athena blamed Starkz for all of it, saying she was jealous. Athena got in Starkz face and she grabbed the mic from her.

Starkz pushed Athena over and proclaimed “I’m done!” before leaving the ring and the party! Nair then tried to get the party back on track by unveiling a modified ROH Women’s Title with Athena’s picture on it. AND IT SPINS!

Suddenly, Abadon’s music hit and Nair dove out of the ring. Athena got ready to be jumped, but… nothing happened. The music faded out, and when Athena went to pull Nair back into the ring via chain, it was ABADON who appeared in the other cuff!

Abadon beat up the champion with a Black Dahlia, then smashed the cake on Athena’s face, fulfilling the prophecy and leaving her laying in the ring.

ROH World Television Title Match: Brian Cage (c) defeated Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes)

I’m beginning to think that Cage just doesn’t like Luchadores. Or at least someone on the booking team doesn’t like luchadores, because they keep getting sent to be thrown at the ground repeatedly by Cage. In this match, Cage’s ROH TV Title was on the line though, and Komander, who picked up a win over Willie Mack last week, would love to add that title to his list of accomplishments.

Cage arrived in a rather subdued manner, in plain black trunks. He wasn’t wasting time though, throwing Komander into the corner and drilling him with some big elbows. Kmander tried to battle back but every time he got a little momentum, Gage threw him at the ground a bunch.

Cage began showing off, as he does, catching Komander mid air and curling him like dumbells (or he was cuddling him. It was hard to tell). Cage then picked up Komander and threw him out of the ring like a sack of potatoes, causing my six year old to exclaim “Oh no, Brian Cage!!”

Cage then reversed his own move by picking up Komander and throwing him back INTO the ring. Taking his time and doing a little posing on the way back into the ring, Cage accidentally gave Komander an opening for some spinning kicks. That enraged, uh, Cage, and he got sloppy letting Komander land a 360 hurricanrana.

Komander had one last burst of energy, hitting a 450 splash from the top rope, but Cage kicked out at one. Komander tried moonsault instead, but Cage caught him and powerbombed him a half dozen times, ending with a modified F-5 (aka, he threw him at the ground a lot). Komander was done after that, and Cage got the pin and retained the title.

Great show this week!

Ring of Honor TV live results: Athena vs. Lady Frost, Nick Wayne in action

Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Athena will look to keep her impressive multi-year winning streak going as she faces Lady Frost in non-title action on tonight’s HonorClub show.

The bout will be a Proving Ground match where if Frost can defeat or draw the champion, she earns a future title shot. Athena has held the title since December 2022’s Final Battle.

For the first time since September 2023, Nick Wayne will return to the red and black brand as he faces Bryan Hook.

In other women’s action, past AEW Women’s World title challenger Yuka Sakazaki will face Viva Van.

The show will also feature two tag team matches as Angelico & Serpentico face Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones while MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) takes on Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson).

**********

Little was said to promote tonight’s episode 86 but that didn’t stop the show from kicking off in style, with a very poetic promo from the ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe.

Briscoe survived his match with Chris Jericho at WrestleDream and as long as Jericho runs down the Briscoe name and family, Mark promises to fight him anytime, anywhere.

Spanish Announce Project (Angelico & Serpentico) defeated Derek Dillinger & Ren Jones

Dillinger and Jones made their debut both as a team and in ROH tonight. Angelico and Serpentico have been picking up wins over the likes of The Infantry and the Iron Savages over the summer. They also managed to get Serpentico’s mask back from Maria Kanellis and her goons, but that was behind them now as they looked to position themselves for a shot at the ROH Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara.

Dillinger and Jones were definitely beefier than the laid-back SAP, but the agility of Angelico was on full display as he started off against Jones. Angelico practically danced around Jones before locking in an arm lock and tagging in Serpentico for a double stomp from the top rope on said arm. Dillinger tried to get involved, but like so many bulls in so many china shops, he ran right into the SAP’s fluid and cohesive offense.

Dillinger hopped in and spent some time throwing Serpentico around. The luchadore was not prepared for the brawling style of Dillinger and it looked for a few minutes like an upset was imminent. However, Jones and Angelico got involved andSerpentico locked Jones ina grapevine ankle lock and Serpentico got Dillinger in a tandem cobra stretch to draw out a double submission and a win for SAP.

Rachael Ellering was interviewed in the back.

Ellering promised to step up in ROH and was interrupted by Harley Cameron. Cameron felt that she and Ellering got off on the wrong foot. The two traded passive aggressive insults for a moment until Cameron pulled her in for a hug, starting their “friendship” off right.

Yuka Sakazaki defeated Viva Van

Sakazaki, still hurting from a failed attempt to capture the AEW Women’s World Title from Mariah May at Grand Slam in September, was looking to take it out on Van. Van for her part was still looking for her first singles win in ROH, but had her work cut out for her.

Sakazaki’s entrance music was the real winner as the hardcore J-Pop filled the arena. Whent he match started, Van tried to keep the match pace slow to take away Sakazaki’s sped, but she didn’t count on the agility of the smaller woman, who wormed out of everything thrown at her.

Van went to the top for a springboard attempt, but Sakazaki knocked her from the ropes and stomped around the ring before landing a high knee in the corner. A missile dropkick from the top rope knocked Van senseless, but she managed to kick out at two.

The two played back and forth, trying pinning combinations and wriggling out of them. Van looked pretty impressive against the Joshi star, but in the end Sakazaki hit a Magic Girl Splash from the middle of the top rope and got the pin.

Footage of the Brian Cage vs Atlantis Jr. match from WrestleDream was shown next.

Cage ended up the winner of that match and became the new ROH TV Champion. He cut a promo afterwards, saying things are going to change in ROH now that someone of his caliber has the TV Title. He talked a lot about cliffs, and being pushed off them, but it didn’t make much sense. The gist of it was that the “Age of Cage” is upon us.

Nick Wayne (w/ Mother Wayne) defeated Brian Cook

This is only Wayne’s second match in ROH, losing to then-ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata way back in the dark vestiges of 2023. Following along form The Patriarchy was Mother Wayne. Cook for his part had a cup of coffee with AEW last year, but hasn’t been seen much since, spending most of his time in Defy.

Things started off fast though. Cook caught Wayne on his heels and managed to land a series of quick dropkicks that actually busted Wayne’s lip open. Wayne powered back though, using the skills taught to him by Christian Cage of the Patriarchy. Or so they say.

After that, Wayne dominated the match. Single arm DDT’s, dropkicks and not an insignificant amount of mugging for the camera kept Cook on the mat for the most part. He got a few quick rollup attempts in, and a really cool twisting DDT, but in the end, Wayne hit a jumping cutter and put Cook down for good to get the win.

MxM Collection (Mansoor & Mason Madden) defeated Midnight Heat (Eddie Pearl & Ricky Gibson)

So, Midnight Heat. Disturbing name, pretty good cred on the indies. Their last match around these parts was on a springtime episode of Dynamite where they lost to the Dark Order. MxM Collection came out of the gate on a hot streak (they even competed for the INTERGALACTIC Tag Team Championships in Hoodslam Wrestling) but seem to have cooled a little after traveling the Dynamite/Collision/ROH highway.

To begin, “Tips of honor” were touched and poses were, uh, posed. Mansoor started off against Gibson, who despite my hope every time I saw or heard his name, was NOT 60 years old like another Gibson. As far as the match goes though, Gibson held his own against Mansoor. Pearl tagged in, but that just brought in Madden, who towered over him. At one point, he picked up Pearl with one arm for a leg drop slam.

MxM had this thing in the bag from the start. It was really just a series of poses and comedy bits with a little bit of wresting in between. This does not in any way mean it was a bad match, but it was a predictable one. MxM controlled everything and a sit out choke slam from Madden set up Pearl for the Centerfold and a pin.

AR Fox defeated Jack Cartwheel

Hometown hero Cartwheel came down to the ring doing round outs. No, he was doing cartwheels and in Dusty Rhodes’ old coat no less. Fox was a little more subdued (for Fox) as he used this as a warmup for an upcoming match with Ricochet coming up on Collision.

The two locked up and Cartwheel looked absolutely ripped. He was about 6 inches shorter that Fox, but all muscle. Couple that with his speed and Cartwheel had Fox backtracking. Fox, looking pretty good himself, tried more of a brawler approach, but Cartwheel was able to work around that until Fox hit him on the outside with a massive dive.

Fox tried a rolling senton on the ring apron (the hardest part of the ring) but Cartwheel avoided it, causing Fox to land right on his back. He was ok though, as evidenced by the jumping neckbreaker he delivered to Cartwheel moments later.

The two hammered on each other in a relatively even affair until Fox went to the top rope for… something, and Cartwheel sent him to the mat. Fox jumped up for a 450 splash and managed to keep Cartwheel on the ground long enough to get the pin.

Atlantis Jr. defeated Jon Cruz

Cruz was pretty excited to see his name up on the big screen as he entered. Atlantis Jr, fresh off losing the ROH TV Title to Brian Cage, was a little more subdued, but still carried that Luchadore flair. He had the size advantage on Cruz, but Cruz has the veteran reps to surprise.

Atlanis struck first, catching Cruz with a big kick and spinning backbreaker. Atlantis set up Cruz in the corner and tried to feed him kicks, but Cruz squirmed out and began pounding on Atlantis, counting blows in Spanish. He then bit Atlantis on the mask for some reason.

Cruz got a little cocky, trying out a standing cover, but Atlantis wasn’t going down like that. Atlantis hit a pop up cutter followed by a big frog splash and got the win.

Komander defeated Willie Mack to earn an ROH TV title match

Mack is calling himself “The Chocolate Juggalo” these days and that’s… well, that’s something. Komander brought along his hype man and the two set up for what promised to be a really fun clash of styles. Mack, a notorious brawler against the luchadore stylings of Komander. Also, the winner of the match will get a future ROH TV title shot.

Mack appeared to be twice the size of Komander, but had trouble keeping up with him. When the two did connect, Komander definitely got the bummer end of it, being hit so hard he flipped over. A couple of times.

Speed wasn’t an issue though, as Mack is unearthly fast and agile for a man of his size. Komander didn’t have much to fight back with, but he was able to take a lot of what Mack was dishing out to keep the match going. Right up until the nipple twists. Mack twisted Komander’s nipples and it was as awkward as it sounds.

Komander got a bunch of offense in on Mack, including a big dive over the ropes to the outside. He tossed Mack back in the ring and ran the ropes for a shooting star press to get the victory over the bigger man and become the new #1 Contender for the ROH TV Title.

Jericho Responds to ROH Champion Mark Briscoe

Chris Jericho cut a promo next, claiming that Mark Briscoe cheated to win their match at Wrestledream. He wants a rematch and to become the 2-time ROH Champion, just like Jay Briscoe. They cut to Mark right away, and he accepted the rematch, but it will be a more violent affair next week on Dynamite when Jericho and Briscoe have a LADDER WAR for the ROH Championship.

ROH CLASSIC MATCH: The Briscoes vs. SoCal Uncensored vs. The Young Bucks (Ladder War for the ROH Tag Team Championships, ROH Final Battle 2018, NYC)

Speaking of Ladder War, how about a classic one featuring the Briscoes and current AEW EVP’s Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, as well as then ROH Tag Champs Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian. There was a lot to love about this match, but honestly it was just a joy reliving Jay and Mark Briscoe doing the tag team work they did so well. Their opponents couldn’t be better, but it was seeing Jay do his thing that was really exciting. He is really, really missed.

As with most of the classic matches, I won’t get into who won what, but this was a wild and violent match. At times it was impossible to know who was winning as bodies were flying everywhere. Chairs, tables and of course, ladders, were used as weapons by anyone and everyone. The Briscoes had a bit of advantage in that they were used to hardcore, violent matches at this point. But the Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored hung in there, giving as good as they got.

To get ready for the Briscoe/Jericho Ladder War coming up on Dynamite, this was an excellent taste of what it could look like. I highly suggest checking it out on HonorClub or elsewhere.

ROH Women’s World Champion Athena (w/ Lexy Nair) defeated Lady Frost in a Proving Ground match

Lady Frost has been having a rough time in ROH lately. She’s lost an ROH Women’s World TV Title Proving Ground match, been eliminated from the AEW Women’s World Title, uh, Eliminator tournament and now she has to face a very cranky Athena. For her part, Athena has been stressed out lately by what she sees as a failing Minion in Billie Starkz, and being stalked by Abadon. If Frost could last ten minutes or pin the champion, she’d be guaranteed a future title shot.

Athena arrived still chained to Lexy Nair, with no Billie Starkz in sight. Last week, Athena chained herself to Nair to avoid Abadon. I don’t know exactly how this was supposed to work, but go with it. For the match, she unchained herself and for some reason locked Lexy to the ringpost? The only thing I could think of was Athena was setting Lexy up to be bait for Abadon, not unlike Wyle E. Coyote attempting to trap the Roadrunner.

With all that out of the way, the match started and the two women tangled up and wrestled from post to post. Athena ended up with the better of it, but Frost responded with a hurricanrana off the ropes. Anything Athena threw at Frost, she had an answer for, but Athena only needed to keep the match going until the 10 minute time limit to win.

Frost was nearly counted out after some interference from Lexy on the outside. That gave Athena the momentum, but the champion was clearly distracted by the thought of Abadon lurking nearby. It caused her to miss a senton and give Frost an opening. She went high, but Athena countered.

Athena manged to land a big slam from the top rope and lock in her crossface submission. Frost tried to fight out of it, but Athena only wrenched down harder, causing Frost to tap out.

Athena re-cuffed herself to Lexy and started beating up Frost. Suddenly, Abadon’s music hit and Athena a Lexy turned tail and ran as fast as they could to the exit as the show came to a close.

Ring of Honor TV live results: Lee Moriarty vs. Preston Vance Pure title match

Reigning Ring of Honor Pure Champion Lee Moriarty will put his title on the line against Preston Vance on tonight’s ROH on HonorClub.

It will be the second title defense for Moriarty since winning the belt at July’s Death Before Dishonor while Vance is looking for his first title in either AEW or ROH. He comes into the match having won his last two bouts.

Former ROH TV Champion Tony Deppen makes his return to the company for the first time since April when he goes one-on-one with Action Andretti.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena will team up with former Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz in tag team action.

For the first time ever, Johnny TV will face Komander.

Other ROH stars in action against opponents to be named includes Brian Cage and Abadon.

**********

For the 83rd time, Ring of Honor on Honorclub blasted through the speakers and promised a great night of wrestling! Starting with Action! Action Andretti, that is!

Action Andretti (w/Lio Rush) defeats Tony Deppen

Andretti lacking his Top Flight pals and hanging out with Rush was a new development, but hey, the more friends the merrier. Deppen hasn’t been seen in ROH since the spring when he was a losing participant in a trios match against The Premier Athletes.

Deppen had some reps under his belt, being well-travelled around the indie circuit. Andretti had the speed and agility advantage though, tapping into a newfound aggressive streak. Deppen almost got a surprise rollup, but Andretti wriggled free and the two squared off.

Andretti did a really smooth walk and bounce off the top ropes, impressing the crowd and putting Deppen on his heels. In the corner, Andretti rained down chops and dropkicks keeping Deppen close, but not too close.

Deppen tried to gain some momentum with a big splash on the outside and some really hard elbows and strikes in the corner. He went too far though, trying to land a high flying move from the top rope. Andretti hit a springboard 450 and a shotgun dropkick to set up another springboard splash and get the win.

The Dark Order (John Silver and Alex Reynolds) w/Evil Uno defeated Boulder and Jacked Jameson w/Bronson Beefcake

Jameson and the Iron Savages cut a promo in the back on the Outrunners, who they attacked 2 weeks ago. The meat of the promo is that they don’t like the Outrunners, saying that they were “meat riders.” That means they rode the meatiness of the Savages into ROH, I think.

Reynolds and Boulder started things off, stomping around the ring. Reynolds tried a waistlock, but Boulder was about doubt his size so he wasn’t able to lock it in. Reynolds dodged a splash and tagged in Silver. Jameson jumped in as well and the posing began. Silver may be shorter, but he has the strength to match up against Jameson and even landed a big atomic drop.

Silver managed to send Jameson and Bronson to Titty City. That meant he pressed their faces into Boulder’s chest, cackling “you’ve got boobies in your face!” That gave some new life to the Savage-Jameson connection and Boulder and silver fought in the ring.

Later, Reynolds managed to catch Boulder in a cobra stretch but Jameson broke it up with a one armed slam. The beef was flying as Silver and Jameson both leapt in to break up pins. Silver and Reynolds double teamed Jameson with breakneck speed and managed to get the pin and the win.

Abadon vs Liviyah

Lately, Abandon has had her eyes on ROH Women’s Champion Athena. But that hasn’t stopped her from eating up the competition on her way to that inevitable confrontation. Liviyah was making her ROH debut, much to the chagrin of spelling enthusiasts everywhere.

Abadon drew Liviyah in for a code of honor and ended up biting her arm and then laying her out with a big lariat. Liviyah managed to get a bulldog on Abadon, exclaiming “You think you’re so cool because you’re weird!” Abadon, who is very cool, and very weird, responded with a backbreaker and some clubbing forearms.

Abadon beat up on Livihyah for a few more minutes before pinning her clean. She then stood and exclaimed “I’m coming for you Athena!”

-Red Velvet and Diamante joined us back stage. The Board of Directors banned violence from the interview (because they can do that apparently) so they spoke civilly to each other. Velvet gave Diamante her props, she’s at her prime, but shes old. Velvet became a champion after only 8 years wrestling and Velvet knows it bothers Diamante. Diamante responded by saying that she is in her prime, but she will still get better. Velvet doesnt know what she’s in for when she faces Diamante for the Women’s TV Title.

Brian Cage defeated Alec Price

Last week, the 12-0 Cage defeated assaulted Rusman in a pretty one-sided affair. Now that Cage has begun adding submission moves to his massive power and strength, there’s really little hope for those that cross him.

The biggest problem with a wrestler who looks and moves like Cage is that it’s hard to look at some of his opponents and buy that they have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning. Price was about half the size of Cage, and any move he made, Cage just picked him up and threw him at the mat.

With all that said, it was a fun squash match. Cage watched himself pose on the big screen for a bit in between throwing Price in and out of the ring. Price screamed in pain while Cage admired his own biceps. Price showed some life with a springboard dropkick and running knee in the corner. However, Cage literally grabbed him by the trunks and pulled him up for 3 straight powerbombs and an “F-10” to get the victory.

ROH Women’s Champion Athena & Billie Starkz defeated Christina Marie and LMK

Last week, Athena became the longest reigning ROH Champion in the company’s history. But it’s not all celebrations and roses in the Minion camp. Starkz has been frustrated lately about her position as a low-number Minion-in-Training, while Lexy Nair gets all the accolades from Athena. Tensions, they do boil.

Starkz and Marie kicked things off and Starkz was hard-hitting off the top. Marie countered with a scoop slam. Starkz sent her to the outside where Athena threw her into the barricade. LMK tried to get a tag, but Athena isolated Marie in her and Starkz’ corner. Marie managed to get a hot tag to LMK who jumped in an clotheslined the champion.

LMK held her own for a while until Athena kicked her in the face. Marie jumped in to help and Athena side slammed them both. At the same time. Starkz took out Marie with a DDT and Athena locked the Hussy Clutch on LMK who gave up, handing Starkz and Athena the win.

Athena and Starkz beat up their prone opponents until Abadon’s music hit. The Living Dead girl stomped down to the ring and Athena bailed, leaving Starkz to face her on her own. Abadon beat up Starkz until she managed to escape, joining Athena in a quick exit from ringside.

Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes) defeated Johnny TV

In a surprising bit of news, it turned out that this would be the first time these two well-traveled veterans have met in the ring. TV has been enjoying a somewhat laid back time in ROH recently (and some new jackets!), while Komander has been on a hot streak as of late. Abrahantes would be the wild card here with TV’s wife and valet Taya Valkyrie off in AEW hanging out with Deonna Purazzo.

Komander gave up some size to TV, but both had the speed and agility to have a great match. TV tried to throw Komander off his game with some brawler strikes and moves. His pants were also covered with LED lights. That has nothing to do with the match, but should be mentioned.

Komander battled back and landed and around-the-world hurricanrana followed by a sunset flip. TV followed it up with a a shining wizard. TV switched tactics to keep Komander off his feet. TV stood on Komander’s neck and delivered several kicks to the midsection before trying a sleeper.

The two men battled around the ring until TV hit two 360 neckbreakers in a row. That got a two count, so TV went for Starshop Pain, but Komander rolled away, causing TV to miss. TV went for a Torture Rack but Komander reversed it into a mexican destroyer. Komander went to the top rope for his trademark flipping splash and put TV down for the pin.

ROH Pure Title Match: Lee Moriarty (c) defeated Preston Vance

Moriarty and Shane Taylor have been pushing hard to prove that Moriarty is the best ROH Pure Champion ever. Last week, Vance, undefeated in ROH, beat Brandon Cutlerin a one-sided, but fun affair. For those not in the know, Under Pure Rules, each wrestler gets three rope breaks, and one warning for a closed fist. Outside interference or lose a count-out battle results in a title change and suspension for the offending wrestler. Winning is by pinfall or submission and if there was no winner by the 60-minute time limit, a panel of judges would award the win. That panel was Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn and Jimmy Jacobs.

Vance got the upper hand on Moriarty off the top but got his warning for the use of a closed fist early, at 1:29. The fight moved to the outside where Vance tossed Moriarty into barricades, then back in the ring. Moriarty send Vance into the turnbuckle and then tried an armbar, forcing Vance to use his first rope break. Moriarty tried again, costing Vance his second rope break in quick succession.

Vance landed a shoulder block off the second rope and followed it up with a big powerbomb and submisson attempt. Moriarty was forced to use his first rope break, which bought him enough time to hit a massive lariat. Moriarty managed to roll up Vance in a quick move, and got the 1-2-3.

Honestly, what promised to be a good match was cut short. It also appeared that the timer jumped 10 minutes from about 2:30 to 12:30. I don’t know if that was because of a portion of the match that had to be cut, a technical issue, or what. That said, a pretty good show in spite of the weird ending!
