AEW sets date & location for FTR Tag Team title defense

FTR will defend their AEW World Tag Team titles against Jake Doyle and Mark Davis later this month.

At last week’s AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage, Doyle and Davis emerged victorious in a four-way tag team match to determine the next challengers to the titles followed by a brawl between both teams.

On Tuesday, the date and venue was announced: the January 28th edition of Dynamite in Austin, Texas, at the H-E-B Center. It’s the first match announced for the show.

It was Doyle’s first match on Dynamite after signing with the company following a multi-year TNA run. He and Davis are part of the ever-growing Don Callis Family.

FTR is in their third reign as champions and will be looking for their third title defense since regaining the belts at last November’s Full Gear. Davis and Doyle will both be looking for their first AEW gold.

Video was played of the backstage attack angle from post-Full Gear where Starks and Bill laid out Jericho. Jericho and Omega then called out Starks and Bill and issued the challenge for Worlds End, which Starks was quick to accept.

In the back-and-forth promo segment on Dynamite, Jericho compared Starks to Enzo Amore, and suggested comedy tag team names for Starks & Bill, while Starks brought up defeating Jericho twice earlier this year.

The Young Bucks earn future AEW Tag Team title shot at WrestleDream

The Young Bucks are the new number one contenders to the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

The Bucks defeated The Lucha Bros, The Gunns, plus the duo of Orange Cassidy & Hook at Sunday’s WrestleDream pay-per-view in Seattle to earn a future Tag Team title shot. As stated in the promotion of the match, The Young Bucks can now challenge for the titles “at any time.”

The Bucks are now next in line to challenge the winners of Sunday’s AEW Tag Team Championship match between title holders FTR and their challengers Aussie Open.

Aside from the Young Bucks victory, the biggest news coming out of the four-way was an injury angle involving Rey Fenix.

Fenix was removed from the match shortly after it began. Our Bryan Alvarez reports that the decision was made to take Fenix out of the match early to protect him for his International Championship defense against Nick Jackson set for this Wednesday’s Dynamite Anniversary episode.

Alvarez noted that Fenix is “banged up.”

AEW’s Tony Khan posted on social media last week that Fenix was injured in his International title match at Dynamite Grand Slam against Jon Moxley in a match where Moxley was also injured. Fenix was cleared to return to action on last week’s Dynamite, while Moxley has yet to return to the ring.

Moxley did make multiple appearances at the commentary desk on Sunday’s WrestleDream show.

The Acclaimed crowned AEW World Tag Team Champions at Dynamite Grand Slam

The Acclaimed are the new AEW World Tag Team Champions.

The Acclaimed’s Max Caster and Anthony Bowens defeated Swerve In Our Glory’s Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee to win the AEW World Tag Team titles at Dynamite Grand Slam on Wednesday night in Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.

After defeating The Acclaimed in a Tag title match at All Out earlier this month, Swerve In Our Glory lost the rematch at Dynamite Grand Slam, ending their title reign at 70 days. Swerve In Our Glory had captured the Tag titles at Dynamite Fyter Fest on July 13, defeating Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks, and Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks of Team Taz in a triple threat bout.

The Acclaimed’s win was the second title change of the night at Grand Slam, as Chris Jericho defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the Ring of Honor World Championship in the show’s opening contest.

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland crowned AEW World Tag Team Champions

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland are the new AEW World Tag Team Champions.

Swerve In Our Glory captured the AEW Tag titles on the Fyter Fest episode of Dynamite on Wednesday, defeating The Young Bucks, and Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks in a three-way.

Strickland pinned Starks after a Swerve Stomp to secure the victory, ending the second Tag Team title reign of The Young Bucks.

The title victory is the first in AEW for both Lee and Strickland. Lee joined the promotion in February, debuting on February 9 on Dynamite with a win over Isiah Kassidy. Strickland’s signing was announced at the Revolution pay-per-view on March 6, with his first AEW bout taking place on that week’s Rampage episode.

The Young Bucks title reign ends at 28 days and zero successful defenses.

Swerve In Our Glory had previously challenged for the Tag Team titles at Double or Nothing in May in a match also involving Starks and Hobbs, as well as then-Champions Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.

Tag Team title match set for AEW Rampage

Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus win AEW World Tag Team titles on Dynamite

New AEW World Tag Team Champions were crowned on tonight’s Dynamite.

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus (Jurassic Express) defeated Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix (The Lucha Brothers) to win the titles. Jungle Boy pinned Penta with a cradle to win the match and end Penta and Fenix’s first AEW title reign at 183 days.

Fenix was injured during the match, either breaking or dislocating his arm after taking a chokeslam off the apron through a table on the floor. Fenix was on his way to the hospital, and the injury was severe enough to likely require surgery.

For Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, the win marks their first career AEW title victories.

The Tag title match main evented the first edition of Dynamite on TBS, a show that also featured two other title matches. Hangman Page defeated Bryan Danielson to retain the AEW World Championship on the show, plus Jade Cargill was crowned the first-ever TBS Champion, defeating Ruby Soho in a tournament final.

Tag Team title match added to AEW Road Rager

The Young Bucks will defend their AEW World Tag Team titles on next week’s Road Rager edition of Dynamite.

Eddie Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo defeated The Young Bucks in a title eliminator match on tonight’s Dynamite to earn the title shot. It was announced later in the broadcast that the match will take place on next week’s Road Rager show.

Kingston and Penta came away with the victory over The Bucks after interference from Brandon Cutler backfired. Cutler accidentally sprayed cold spray in the eyes of Matt Jackson. Frankie Kazarian then ran in and attacked Cutler. Penta hit Matt with a Fear Factor, the Kingston hit a spinning backfist to Matt. Penta then covered Matt for the pin.

The Young Bucks have held the AEW World Tag Team Championships since the November 7, 2020 Full Gear PPV. The Bucks defeated Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler of FTR to win the titles on that show.

AEW Road Rager, a special edition of Dynamite, will take place on Wednesday, July 7 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, Florida.
