UFC on ESPN+ 116 live results: Nassourdine Imavov vs. Caio Borralho

After a week off, the Octagon heads to France for the fourth consecutive year as UFC On ESPN+ 116 takes place inside the Accor Arena in Paris.

The main event is a pivotal bout in the middleweight with a potential title shot on the line as Nassourdine Imavov takes on Caio Borralho. Imavov is looking to improve on his five-fight unbeaten streak following a win over Israel Adesanya in February. Borralho is looking to remain perfect during his UFC tenure, as he’s won all seven of his fights and has a 17-fight unbeaten streak on the line.

The co-main event is an exciting lightweight bout between ranked contenders with Benoit Saint-Denis taking on Mauricio Ruffy. Saint-Denis is looking for his second straight win, while Ruffy enters this bout riding a seven-fight win streak.

Also on the main card is a light heavyweight bout pitting Modestas Bukauskas against Paul Craig; a lightweight bout between Bolaji Oki and Mason Jones; and a featherweight bout between William Gomis and the debuting Robert Ruchala.

> Women’s Strawweights- Shauna Bannon (7-1, 2-1 UFC) vs. Sam Hughes (10-6, 5-5 UFC)

Bannon lands some leg kicks early before Hughes is able to score a takedown. Bannon with some body shots from the bottom and then lands to the head as Hughes is controlling from inside the guard. Hughes lands a couple of punches. Hughes gets to side control and has the crucifix in and is landing punches and elbows. Bannon is in all sorts of trouble but she is able to get out. Hughes stays in side control and continues to land. They scramble up and stay tied up to end as they trade. 10-9 Hughes.

Bannon with some body kicks and they trade punches. Hughes lands some right hands as she catches a kick and gets Bannon down to the mat. Hughes gets inside the guard. Hughes gets to side control and lands some punches and elbows. Bannon gives up her back and Hughes locks in a rear-naked choke and Bannon taps! Hughes picks up her third straight win.

> Welterweights- Andreas Gustafsson (12-2, 1-0 UFC) vs. Rinat Fakhretdinov (24-2-1, 5-0-1 UFC)

Gustafsson pressing forward and landing right hands. They clinch and Fakhretdinov lands an uppercut. They break and trade right hands. Fakhretdinov lands a body kick. Fakhretdinov starts landing big shots and is teeing off against the fence. Gustafsson is covering up and Fakhretdinov is landing and Gustafsson falls to the mat and it is all over! Fakhretdinov gets the big early finish.

> Middleweights- Brad Tavares (21-10, 16-10 UFC) vs. Robert Bryczek (17-6, 0-1 UFC)

They trade inside the pocket. They trade leg kicks and Bryczek lands a left hook to the body followed by a jab. Tavares with a push kick. Bryczek lands a leg kick. Bryczek lands a right hand and then drops Tavares with a right hand. Bryczek is landing tons of shots as Tavares works his way up and Bryczek is continuing to land to the head and body trying to get the finish. They tie up and Tavares is recovering. They break apart and Tavares lands a combination. Bryczek is landing big punches and they are swinging. Bryczek with a big flurry to the body against the fence and they clinch back up. Bryczek lands some punches. Bryczek with a big flurry against the fence and he’s landing heavy shots. Tavares scores a takedown. Tavares lands to the body from the top. Tavares ends the round on top. 10-9 Bryczek.

Tavares with a pair of leg kicks. Tavares lands a combo. Tavares lands a heavy leg kick. Tavares with a jab then a leg kick. Bryczek isn’t throwing. They trade jabs. Waters with a jab and inside leg kick. Patterson lands a combination but eats a counter right hand from Waters. They exchange leg kicks. Both land jabs inside the pocket. Patterson works the jab. Waters with a leg kick. Waters with a jab to the body then a leg kick. They trade jabs and Patterson lands a leg kick. Patterson lands a leg kick as Waters lands a stiff jab. Patterson hurts Waters with a combo and then starts landing as Waters is in trouble. Waters is backing up and looking bad on his feet and Patterson lands a right hand and the referee steps in and stops it! Great finish by Patterson and good job by the referee.

Fernandes lands some early calf kicks. Hardwick is pressing forward and lands some punches. Fernandes with more leg kicks and lands some punches. Fernandes with more hard calf kicks and Hardwick is hurt. Fernandes lands and Hardwick looked for a takedown but fell to the mat. Fernandes backs off and Hardwick is stood up. Fernandes with a hard calf kick and Hardwick goes down and was rolling. He is having trouble standing and the fight is stopped. Brutal finish from Fernandes.

Delija landing lots of early big punches on Tybura as he pushes it to the fence. Tybura is looking for a takedown against the fence. They separate. Delija with a flurry of shots and Tybura goes down and it is all over! What a finish from Delija!

> Light Heavyweights- Oumar Sy (11-1, 2-1 UFC) vs. Brendson Ribeiro (17-8, 2-3 UFC)

Ribeiro lands some leg kicks early and Sy lands a pair of leg kicks. Sy rocks Ribeiro with a jab and then scores a takedown. Ribeiro had Sy’s neck, but he pops out and is in side control. Sy gets inside the guard of Ribeiro and stands and starts landing. Sy goes back into the guard and lands some elbows. Ribeiro is attacking the arm and sweeps Sy but they scramble up. Sy lands a leg kick and Ribeiro connects with a knee as Sy was shooting for a takedown. Sy gets the takedown. Sy with punches from the top and lands a couple of hammerfists. Sy gets the back of Ribeiro. Sy with elbows and punches and Ribeiro is hurt and it is all over! Sy with the impressive showing.

Ruchala grabs the body lock and scores a takedown. They get to their feet but remain tied up and Ruchala lands some knees. They separate and Gomis lands a hard body kick. Ruchala with a leg kick. Gomis lands a body kick then a leg kick and they clinch. Gomis lands an elbow on the break then a body kick. 10-9 Gomis.

McKee lands an uppercut as Sola is pressuring forward. Sola lands a left hand. They trade and Sola gets a takedown, but they get right up. Sola has the back and is controlling, but McKee lands some back elbows. Sola landing some knees from the back. They break apart. They trade to end the first. 10-9 Sola.

McKee landing some solid punches as he’s coming forward to start the third. Sola lands an uppercut. Sola with a left hand to the body. They get tied up and Sola starts landing shots to the body and McKee crumbles to the mat, and Sola finishes it off with some follow-up shots.

They trade punches and Oki is landing leg kicks early. Oki drops Jones with a right hand and starts pouncing as Jones was trying to get up. Oki is landing lots of punches and hammerfists from the top. They end up back on their feet as Oki is still landing. Jones is eating a lot of punches but firing back. Oki lands some more big punches. They trade and Oki lands a left hand. Jones lands and Oki stumbles down to the ground. Jones jumps on the neck but lets go and starts landing elbows from the top. They stand and Jones takes it back down. Jones with elbows from the top. Jones passes to north-south position and moves to side control. Jones attacks the arm and locks in a kimura. It was in deep but Oki is able to get his arm free. Jones continues to attack the arm as he lands. 10-9 Jones.

Oki with some leg kicks. Jones lands a combination. They start trading jabs. Oki lands and both throw spinning elbows, but neither landed. Oki looks for a takedown but Jones is able to defend as they tie up. Jones gets a big throw takedown and is in side control against the fence. Jones gets the mount. Jones with some big elbows from the top and Oki is trying to roll out of trouble. Jones is landing big punches and elbows from the mount and Oki is in lots of trouble. More and more elbows from Jones and it is stopped! What a comeback from Jones to get the finish.

Bukauskas lands a leg kick. They trade leg kicks. Bukauskas lands a right hand. Craig with a spin kick to the body. Craig with an inside leg kick. Bukauskas rushes in and they clinch, but Craig is able to take control. Craig tries to pull guard but Bukauskas stays on his feet and lands big punches from the top. Bukauskas goes down into Craig’s guard and lands some more punches, with a heavy elbow from the top as the horn sounds. Craig is out and the fight is stopped! What a finish from Bukauskas!

He was looking for the neck but Ruffy gave up his back. Ruffy is able to reverse and is on top before he stands, and Saint-Denis is ordered up. Saint-Denis with a head kick then he shoots for a takedown, but Ruffy defends. Ruffy lands a knee as Saint-Denis is able to get Ruffy to the mat. Saint-Denis gets the mount and is controlling as he tries to flatten Ruffy out. Saint-Denis looking to set up an arm-triangle choke. Ruffy gets loose but Saint-Denis still has dominant position. They trade punches and Ruffy lands a jumping knee. They exchange right hands and Saint-Denis gets the body lock and scores a takedown. Ruffy is able to reverse to the top. Ruffy stands and lets Saint-Denis get up. Ruffy lands a right hand. Saint-Denis lands and looks for a takedown against the fence. Saint-Denis has the body lock and is able to get Ruffy down and has the back. Saint-Denis lands from the back as he looks to flatten Ruffy out. Saint-Denis looks for a rear-naked choke. Dana White says UFC White House event is confirmed: ‘We got it done today’

The UFC is indeed heading to the White House.

At the end of an Instagram story Thursday (seen below), UFC president Dana White said he had both a long and good day and was about to take off from Washington, DC.

“The White House fight is on. I will have more details on that in the next few weeks, but we got it done today,” he said.

News broke earlier this year that U.S. president Donald Trump wanted a UFC event at the White House, but the idea was initially scoffed at by critics as to whether that was even possible given the logistics.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 4th and will air on Paramount+ (and very possibly CBS) as part of their new seven-year deal that begins in 2026.

Trump and White (seen above) are close friends with White crediting the two-time president with helping the UFC in its early tenure as he hosted events from his venues at a time when the sport was reviled by the mainstream. White has spoken at the Republican National Convention while Trump has been a regular at major UFC events over the past few years.

August 27, 2007 Observer Newsletter: SummerSlam & UFC previews, WWE responds to Congress

We are at a couple of interesting crossroads this coming weekend as both WWE and UFC each have one of their biggest events of the year, one day apart.

WWE’s SummerSlam, on 8/26, at a sold out Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ, has seven matches announced at press time, and will feature the returns of HHH and Rey Mysterio, along with John Cena vs. Randy Orton, as the biggest draws. It will be the first time in three years that SummerSlam didn’t feature Hulk Hogan, and last year’s show was loaded, with Cena vs Edge, plus a Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley match backed up with some of the best interviews of that year. This year, the TV by and large has not done a good job of hyping the show itself. Cena vs. Orton has been promoted okay. The angles have been by-the-book. The promos have been average.

UFC on ESPN+ 115 live results: Johnny Walker vs. Zhang Mingyang

For the first time since November 2017, the Octagon returns to mainland China for an exciting night of fights as UFC on ESPN+ 115 takes place inside the Shanghai Indoor Stadium in Shanghai.

The main event is an exciting five-round battle at light heavyweight as Johnny Walker takes on rising Chinese contender Zhang Mingyang. Walker is looking to get back into the win column as he hasn’t scored a victory over his previous three outings, while Zhang looks to extend a 12-fight win streak after scoring a first-round TKO over Anthony Smith in April.

The co-main event is also a five-round bout as former featherweight title challenger Brian Ortega takes on former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. This fight was originally slated to take place at featherweight, but a last-minute change sees these two fighting at a 153-pound catchweight with Ortega looking like he went through a rough weight cut.

Also on the main card is a heavyweight battle between top-ranked contenders Sergei Pavlovich and Waldo Cortes-Acosta; a flyweight bout pitting Sumudaerji against Kevin Borjas; and a welterweight opener between the debuting Taiyilake Nueraji and Kiefer Crosbie.

Dana White: Indie wrestlers should come to Power Slap and make ‘a sh**load of money’

UFC boss Dana White is hoping to recruit indie wrestlers into his Power Slap league.

Power Slap is a promotion that White launched in 2022 after seeing slap-fighting videos on social media. The controversial organization airs its events on YouTube, and White is hoping that we’ll see some aspiring pro wrestlers crossover to slap fighting.

“For instance, there’s a bunch of people out there that want to get into the AEW or the WWE, right? And these guys will f*cking jump off a ladder onto a table full of tacks for $50 a night,” White told the Cutler Cast. “You can come into Power Slap and make a sh*tload of money, you know what I mean?

“And these guys are all tough guys, big guys. So we’re looking at these guys that wanted to be professional wrestlers, and a lot of other athletes around the world that didn’t become professional athletes to come into Power Slap.”

White said money isn’t a problem for Power Slap. A bigger issue has been finding a steady flow of talented fighters since, unlike when the UFC started, there isn’t an existing pool of talent.

“Any big guys out there, if you are a bodybuilder, or you’re trying to be a pro wrestler, or any of that sh*t, whatever your dream is, you can literally come into this and make some real money,” White said.

White has a relationship with WWE due to WWE and UFC both being under the TKO Sports umbrella. He is also friends with AEW founder Tony Khan.

A big week for the UFC, which featured the signing of a new media rights deal, closes out with one of the most anticipated fight cards of the year as the Octagon returns to the United Center in Chicago, Illinois for the first time in six years for UFC 319.

The main event is one of the biggest fights of the year as UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis defends the title against undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev. Du Plessis is making his third title defense after defeating Sean Strickland in January, while Chimaev returns for the first time since October looking to improve on his perfect 14-0 record.

In the co-main event, undefeated featherweight contender Lerone Murphy welcomes the UFC debut of wrestling standout and former Bellator fighter Aaron Pico.

Also on the main card is a welterweight bout between Geoff Neal and Carlos Prates; a middleweight fight pitting Jared Cannonier against Michael Page; and a battle of former flyweight title challengers as Tim Elliott takes on Kai Asakura.

It’s a lot of small shots to the ear that Chimaev is landing. Du Plessis gets out of the position as Chimaev stays in side control. Chimaev is just holding Du Plessis on the mat. Du Plessis is trying to get up but having no success, but not much else is happening. Chimaev gets the back and Du Plessis is able to escape for a moment but Chimaev ends up back in side control. 10-9 Chimaev.

TKO executive calls pay-per-view model ‘antiquated’

TKO says pay-per-view is a barrier between its product and the fans.

On the heels of the announcement that UFC events are moving to Paramount Plus, TKO CEO Ari Emanuel and President and COO Mark Shapiro appeared on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street to talk about the deal.

“We wanted to get rid of the old model pay-per-view,” Emanuel said.

Shapiro added, “It’s antiquated. It’s just an antiquated model. What’s on pay-per-view these days? Once in a while, a big time boxing match that starts in the middle of the night and/or maybe some movies on DIRECTV. It’s an antiquated model. It’s a wall. It’s a barrier, at the end of the day, for our fans to get our product.”

“This will be well-received by our athletes, by our fans, and that was crucially important to Dana White,” he continued.

Earlier in the conversation, Shapiro and Emanuel discussed UFC events also airing on CBS in addition to Paramount Plus, and why that’s important for expanding the promotion’s fanbase.

“It was important to us to have CBS play a big component in this,” Shapiro said. “This is Paramount Plus exclusively, but CBS will have simulcast on many of the fights and likely all of the numbered events which are formerly the pay-per-view fights.”

“For us also we wanted the reach of CBS,” Emanuel said. “When we were at ESPN and Disney, we always actually were asking for a little bit of ABC because we want the broadest reach.”

The all-inclusive deal is for $7.7 billion over seven years and includes 13 UFC numbered events (formerly UFC pay-per-views) and 30 Fight Night events annually beginning in January 2026. All UFC events will be available to Paramount Plus subscribers without additional purchase required, effectively ending UFC’s pay-per-view model that it had used since its inception in 1993.

UFC announces all-inclusive U.S. media rights deal with Paramount, PPV era ends

After heavy speculation on what the UFC would do with their media rights package, TKO announced on Monday morning that the world’s largest MMA organization is heading to Paramount in a transformative, all-inclusive media rights deal in the United States.

The seven-year, $7.7 billion ($1.1 billion average annual value) begins in January 2026 and will see 13 numbered events and 30 Fight Nights come to the Paramount+ streaming service with some numbered shows to be simulcast on CBS.

The deal also ends the pay-per-view for the UFC, one that began with its inception in 1993.

From the release:

“This shift in distribution strategy will unlock greater accessibility and discoverability for sports fans and provide an important catalyst for driving engagement and further subscriber growth for Paramount+. Paramount intends to explore UFC rights outside the U.S. as they become available in the future.”

It’s a massive splash in the sports media market for new Paramount owner and Skydance Media CEO David Ellison who recently got clearance to purchase the media empire after a lengthy process.

The deal ends UFC’s run with ESPN that began nearly five years ago with a $1.5 billion total contract. That included the exclusive rights to offer UFC PPVs via their ESPN+ platform in addition to Fight Night events, The Ultimate Fighter, and access to library content. They were seen as a strong front runner given the impending launch of the ESPN streaming service and their connection to sports fans.

The release did not mention the video library or shoulder content like The Ultimate Fighter, meaning TKO could look to sell those assets elsewhere.

The news validates the desires of TKO leadership to get their $1 billion/year deal which leadership had floated previously. There was speculation they could split a package between entities like ESPN and Netflix.

The news comes less than a week after TKO announced WWE’s premium live events will head to ESPN as part of a five-year, $1.6 billion deal that begins in April 2026. WWE’s 10-year, $5 billion deal with Netflix began this past January and their new deals with both NBCUniversal for WWE SmackDown and NXT with The CW beginning last fall.

What remains now for TKO on the domestic front are NXT PLE rights and both UFC and WWE library/archive rights if they choose to sell them. With UFC Fight Pass, the company may just choose to keep them there.

December 12, 2007 Observer Newsletter: Is boxing in trouble with UFC’s rise?

Thomas Hauser, the well known biographer of Muhammad Ali and one of the best known boxing writers, wrote a long story on boxing and UFC on the secondsout.com web site this past week.

Even with boxing having its biggest show, he said the sport was in trouble. Using Google hits to judge popularity, he listed the most popular fighters of today as: 1) De La Hoya; 2) Manny Pacquiao; 3) Mayweather; 4) Oritz; 5) Liddell; 6) Couture, noting MMA’s biggest stars as significantly more popular than Bernard Hopkins, Kelly Pavlik and Wladmir Klitshcko. Emmanuel Steward ripped MMA as being ugly and brutal, with nothing beautiful about it like a nice jab in boxing.

He noted UFC follows the WWE when it comes to marketing and stated studies that showed UFC gets its crowds more than WWE fans than boxing fans. Hauser blamed the firing of Chris Albrecht from the head of HBO for the demise of the HBO/UFC deal.

For the second straight week, the Octagon resides inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas for another night of UFC action as UFC on ESPN 72 takes place.

The main event sees a five-round middleweight battle of top-ten 185-pounders as ninth-ranked Roman Dolidze takes on tenth-ranked Anthony Hernandez. Both men are looking to extend win streaks, as Dolidze enters riding a three-fight win streak, while Hernandez comes in having won his last seven fights.

In the co-main event, Steve Erceg battles late replacement Ode Osbourne in a bantamweight bout. Also on the main card is a battle of ranked strawweights as Iasmin Lucindo takes on Angela Hill; Andre Fili squares off with Christian Rodriguez in a featherweight tilt; and Eryk Anders meets Christian Leroy Duncan in a middleweight opener.
