Two title matches confirmed for WWE NXT Houston

Two title matches are set for NXT’s show in Houston later this month.

At Vengeance Day, Jacy Jayne came out and cut a promo talking about her history of being Women’s Champion. Robert Stone cut her off and said this was about finding her next challengers. After both Zaria and Sol Ruca came out to stake their claim, Stone cut everyone off and announced a triple threat match for the title on March 17.

Later on backstage, Jayne was upset about the triple threat match as the rest of Fatal Influence conspired to take out Ruca before the championship match took place.

Fallon Henley also brought up that on the same show, she would be defending the Speed title against the winner of the finals set for this coming Tuesday’s NXT between Wren Sinclair and Thea Hail, both of whom picked up victories in the qualifying round.

  • NXT Women’s Championship: Jacy Jayne defends against Zaria and Sol Ruca
  • WWE Speed Championship: Fallon Henley defends against either Wren Sinclair or Thea Hail

WWE NXT Heatwave notes: Speed titles coming to brand, Ricky Saints

Notes from Sunday’s WWE NXT Heatwave.

After Sol Ruca has been appearing in recent weeks with the Women’s Speed Championship, it was announced that the titles would be defended in NXT moving forward. Ruca will defend her title next month in a tournament that begins on the September 2 edition of NXT. The participants will include a participant from NXT, TNA, AAA, and a participant from the Raw & SmackDown brands. The winner of this tournament will challenge Ruca at WWE NXT No Mercy on September 27 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

El Grande Americano currently holds the WWE Speed men’s championship. It wasn’t announced when he’d defend his title next

In the main event of Sunday’s show, Oba Femi was successful in defeating Je’Von Evans. After the referee was knocked out, Evans hit a springboard cutter as another referee came out and counted three. However, the original referee called it off, saying Femi’s foot was under the rope. Femi dodged a top rope maneuver by Evans and shot put him into the announcer’s table below. He then put him back into the ring and pinned Evans to retain the title.

After the match, Ricky Starks came out and had a staredown with Femi as the show went off the air.

Two title matches confirmed for WWE NXT No Mercy

Two title matches are already confirmed for NXT No Mercy.

In the opening match of Heatwave, Lola Vice defeated Kelani Jordan and Jaida Parker in a three-way match to become the new number one contender. Later in the show, it was announced that Vice would get her opportunity at No Mercy, which takes place on September 27 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Vice later met Jacy Jayne backstage after Jayne lost the TNA Knockouts title to Ash by Elegance despite never being pinned. After Sol Ruca and Zaria traded words with the rest of Fatal Influence, a six-woman tag team match was set up for Tuesday’s show.

Ava also announced at Heatwave that the Speed titles would be coming to NXT, and current champion Sol Ruca would be defending her title at No Mercy. When Sol asked who she would be defending against, Ava announced a tournament that would begin on the September 2 edition of WWE.

The tournament will have a representative from Raw or SmackDown, one from NXT, one from TNA, and another from AAA. The winner would then face Ruca at No Mercy.

Here is the updated card for WWE No Mercy:

WWE NXT No Mercy (September 27):

  • NXT Women’s Championship: Jacy Jayne defends against Lola Vice
  • WWE Women’s Speed title: Sol Ruca defends against TBA

Sol Ruca retains WWE Speed Women’s title in first defense

Sol Ruca is still WWE Speed Women’s Champion after prevailing in her first title defense.

A title match aired on WWE Speed this week with Ruca putting her belt on the line against Ivy Nile. With just seven seconds left of the five-minute time limit, Ruca was able to score the pin to remain champion. The advantage was on Nile’s side in the closing stretch after a powerbomb and swinging uranage, but Ruca rolled to the floor. Back in the ring, she avoided a charge in the corner and connected with a Sol Snatcher for the victory.

Ruca is the second-ever WWE Speed Women’s Champion, winning the belt from inaugural champ Candice LeRae this April. Ruca also successfully defended a different belt over the weekend at NXT Battleground, where she defeated Kelani Jordan to retain the NXT Women’s North American Championship.

The Ruca vs. Nile Speed match was taped at SmackDown last Friday.

Next Wednesday on Speed, the men’s division is back in action with the start of a new number one contender’s tournament. The winner earns the first shot at new WWE Speed Men’s Champion El Grande Americano. Here are the first-round matchups:

  • Kit Wilson vs. Berto
  • Joaquin Wilde vs. Lexis King

Candice LeRae crowned first WWE Speed Women’s Champion

Candice LeRae is the first wrestler to hold the WWE Speed Women’s Championship.

Five days after the match was taped, LeRae vs. IYO SKY in the WWE Speed Women’s Championship tournament finals premiered this afternoon. SKY had the advantage until LeRae was able to get her feet up when SKY went for the Over the Moonsault. LeRae then hit a Lionsault from the second rope to win the match.

Title matches on Speed have a five-minute time limit, an increase from the three-minute limit for non-title bouts. LeRae defeated Sky with 1:12 left on the clock. After the win, LeRae celebrated with her tag team partner Indi Hartwell.

Paul “Triple H” Levesque posted a tweet congratulating LeRae:

This is LeRae’s first singles title reign in WWE and the first time she’s ever defeated SKY in a singles match.

LeRae defeated Piper Niven, Kairi Sane, and SKY during the title tournament.

Starting next week, WWE will begin a new tournament to determine a number one contender for men’s WWE Speed Champion Andrade. Sheamus vs. Giovanni Vinci, Bron Breakker vs. Cruz Del Toro, Dragon Lee vs. Tavion Heights, and Akira Tozawa vs. Riley Osborne are the first-round matches.

Sheamus vs. Vinci will air on X/Twitter at noon Eastern time next Wednesday (October 16).

WWE crowns first-ever Speed Women’s Champion following SmackDown

This post contains spoilers.

The first WWE Speed Women’s Champion has been crowned.

In a match taped following WWE SmackDown on Friday in Nashville, Candice LeRae defeated IYO SKY in the finals of the WWE Speed Women’s tournament to become the first-ever champion.

The tournament to crown the first champion started back in September. The match where IYO SKY advanced to the finals aired this Wednesday on X, defeating Naomi. The other semifinal match between Kairi Sane and LeRae, according to WWE’s X account, will premiere on Saturday.

SKY defeated Lyra Valkyria in the first round of the tournament, while LeRae defeated Piper Niven.

WWE entered into an agreement with X where they would air Speed every Wednesday exclusively on the social media platform. Ricochet won the first-ever tournament to become the inaugural Speed Champion. He eventually lost the title to Andrade in June, who has held the title ever since. Ricochet has since left WWE to sign with AEW.

IYO SKY advances to WWE Speed Women’s title tournament finals

IYO SKY is heading to the WWE Speed Women’s Championship tournament finals.

A semifinal victory over Naomi on today’s WWE Speed episode secured SKY’s spot in the finals. After avoiding a split-legged moonsault from Naomi, SKY hit a double underhook backbreaker and her own Over the Moonsault to get the win with 24 seconds remaining of the three-minute time limit.

It will be SKY vs. either Kairi Sane or Candice LeRae in the finals. Sane and LeRae’s semifinal match is airing on Speed at noon Eastern time next Wednesday (October 9). The show is broadcast exclusively on X/Twitter.

If Sane defeats LeRae, it will be an all-Damage CTRL final. SKY & Sane are tag team partners and — in addition to competing in this Speed tournament — are looking to challenge Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles.

SKY defeated Lyra Valkyria in the first round of the tournament, while Sane and LeRae’s respective victories were against Elektra Lopez and Piper Niven.

The tournament winner will become the second champion on WWE Speed. Andrade won the men’s WWE Speed title from inaugural champion Ricochet this June.

Brackets revealed for upcoming WWE Speed Women’s title tournament

The participants for the upcoming WWE Women’s Speed tournament have been revealed.

WWE announced on Friday that the opening round matches will include IYO SKY vs. Lyra Valkyria, Naomi vs. Blair Davenport, Elektra Lopez vs. Kairi Sane, and Candice LeRae vs. Piper Niven.

It was announced earlier this month that the tournament will start airing on September 4 at noon on X. The match between SKY and Valkyria was taped on Friday, shortly before the start of the live SmackDown broadcast.

The short-form show premiered exclusively on X back in April and has thus far focused on the men’s division. The following month, Ricochet became the first WWE Speed Champion. However, he lost the title to current champion Andrade in June shortly before departing the company.

The current Speed tournament is winding down, with Je’Von Evans and Pete Dunne advancing to the semifinals. The winner of that match will face champion Andrade in the finals.
