Report: Jimmy Uso injured, out of WWE Draft pool

Former WWE Raw & SmackDown Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso is injured and will not be part of the upcoming WWE Draft, according to Fightful.
The injury is undisclosed and there are no details on how long he is out for. It’s something that is apparently enough to keep him out of the Draft proceedings which will make him a free agent in storyline terms.
His name was not listed on the eligible wrestlers list released earlier Wednesday. The Draft kicks off on this Friday’s SmackDown and concludes on Monday’s Raw.
The 38-year-old Uso was last seen on the post-WrestleMania 40 edition of SmackDown getting kicked out of The Bloodline by Solo Sikoa and new member Tama Tonga, much to the surprise of Paul Heyman.
Uso’s last match was at the first night of WrestleMania against his brother, Jey — a match Jey said he felt let people down. Jey is eligible to be drafted on night one of the Draft.
After the Draft, the new rosters will lock on Monday, May 6th, two days after next month’s Backlash is set to take place.
WWE reveals rules, eligible wrestlers for 2024 Draft

WWE has revealed the rules and eligible wrestlers for its 2024 Draft.
The draft begins on SmackDown this Friday night (April 26) and then concludes on Raw next Monday (April 29). Here are the rules that are in place:
On SmackDown, there will be four rounds with 16 total picks (eight for SmackDown and eight for Raw).

SmackDown will pick first on Friday.
Raw will pick first on Monday.
The rosters lock on Monday, May 6.

CM Punk is also included in the draft pool for night two. He underwent surgery after tearing his triceps in the Royal Rumble this January. WWE has announced that Punk will be appearing on both nights of the draft.

Logan Paul appearance announced for next week’s WWE Raw

An appearance from the United States Champion, plus a trios match are official for next week’s WWE Raw, night two of the 2024 WWE Draft.
As revealed on this week’s show, United States Champion Logan Paul will appear on the Monday, April 29 Raw. Paul retained the US title at WrestleMania 40 in a three-way over Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.
A six-man tag team bout is also set for next week, with Jey Uso, Andrade, and Ricochet teaming against The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.
Uso will challenge Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash on May 4. Andrade & and Ricochet were victorious over McDonagh and Santos Escobar in tag team action on this week’s Raw.
Next week’s Raw will also feature the second night of the 2024 WWE Draft, which kicks off on this Friday’s SmackDown.
The announced lineup for the Monday, April 29 WWE Raw:
- Night two of the 2024 WWE Draft
- United States Champion Logan Paul appears
- Jey Uso, Andrade & Ricochet vs. Damian Priest, Finn Balor & JD McDonagh

CM Punk to appear on both nights of 2024 WWE Draft

CM Punk will be in the building for both nights of the 2024 WWE Draft.
Though he’s out injured, Punk played a key role in WrestleMania 40 when he cost Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship. He again cost McIntyre in a number one contender’s match on Monday’s post-WrestleMania episode of Raw.
Punk has now been confirmed for a pair of WWE television appearances later this month. It was announced today that he’ll be appearing on night one and night two of the WWE Draft.
The draft begins on the Friday, April 26 episode of SmackDown from Cincinnati and concludes on the Monday, April 29 episode of Raw from Kansas City.
Punk was on commentary for the Seth Rollins vs. McIntyre World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 40 night two. After McIntyre won the title, it was immediately taken from him. The story was that McIntyre allowed his obsession with mocking Punk to cost him his WrestleMania moment. Damian Priest cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on McIntyre to become the new champion.
This is a crazy 90 second run.
From CM Punk taking out Drew Mcintyre, to Damian Priest CASHING IN MITB successfully.

— Deonte DDJ (@deonteddj) April 7, 2024
A fatal four-way number one contender’s match between Jey Uso, McIntyre, Ricochet, and Bronson Reed then headlined Raw this Monday. Uso got the victory after McIntyre was distracted by Punk.
Punk has been out of action since suffering a torn triceps in the Royal Rumble this January. During his appearance on The MMA Hour last week, Punk discussed his recovery from injury.
“I’m the one that’s trying to push everything based on protocols for a ruptured triceps tendon but they’re telling me to pump the brakes,” he said. “I’m just sitting back listening to them as best I can.”

Dates revealed for 2024 WWE Draft

The dates for the 2024 WWE Draft are now official.
While appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast last week, Paul “Triple H” Levesque noted that the draft would be taking place “in a month or so.” It was confirmed during Monday’s post-WrestleMania 40 episode of Raw that the draft will be held over two nights at the end of April.
It begins on the April 26 episode of SmackDown and ends on the April 29 episode of Raw.
- Friday, April 26: WWE Draft night one – SmackDown from Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio
- Monday April 29: WWE Draft night two – Raw from T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri
It’s already been confirmed that NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov has declared for the draft. He made a surprise appearance on Monday’s Raw, defeating Shinsuke Nakamura. Dragunov retained his title against Tony D’Angelo at NXT Stand & Deliver over WrestleMania weekend.
The 2023 WWE Draft also took place in the weeks following WrestleMania. Before that, the draft was held in October for three consecutive years.

Triple H: There will be a WWE Draft ‘in a month or so’

The annual WWE Draft will be taking place soon.
While appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast in advance of WrestleMania 40, Paul “Triple H” Levesque mentioned that the 2024 WWE Draft will happen “in a month or so.”
Levesque responded when Logan Paul asked if he could move to the Raw roster when Raw’s new deal with Netflix starts in January 2025:
I’m sure we’ll see people float all over the place. In a month or so, there’s a thing called the draft. So that’s when you can switch around and make moves. It’s all open to giving the best shows available on all things.
The 2023 WWE Draft also happened in the weeks following WrestleMania. Before that, the draft was held in October for three straight years.
Last year’s draft began on the April 28 episode of SmackDown and ended on the May 1 edition of Raw. WWE hasn’t announced the exact dates for the 2024 draft yet.
Logan Paul is the current WWE United States Champion. He’s defending the title against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 40 night two this Sunday.
Levesque’s full appearance on Impaulsive is available to watch below:

Show Recap —
There was a video recap of the draft picks on Smackdown.
Triple H entered to kick off night two of the draft. He got a big reception and he noted the sold-out crowd tonight. He explained the rules as the fans patiently listened. He mentioned Roman Reigns getting drafted to Smackdown and the fans loudly booed as soon as his name was spoken. Triple H announced that the new World Champion would be exclusive to Raw.
Triple H also announced that Brock Lesnar was not eligible to be drafted because he renegotiated his contract earlier today and is a free agent who can appear on either show.

********
Paul Heyman/Seth Rollins segment
Triple H introduced Paul Heyman who entered for the next segment. He showed Heyman the new World title belt and Heyman was impressed.
Heyman spoke about Reigns and Solo Sikoa getting drafted to Smackdown before making it very clear that the Usos did not win back the tag titles against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Heyman said he would speak to them privately but they could take care of their problems at Backlash in the six-man tag match against Owens, Zayn and Matt Riddle.
Heyman threw out the idea of Reigns becoming the new World title (the crowd booed) but reminded us that Reigns isn’t eligible to win it. Heyman said people in the back who considered themselves men who were flapping their gums about the Tribal Chief — men who were “freakin’” jokers, men who were “freakin’” jokes, men who were “freakin’” clowns.
Seth Rollins interrupted. Rollins said Reigns was on Smackdown and Heyman no longer had to waste energy pulling strings to ensure that he didn’t get another title shot. Now Heyman could concentrate on making sure the Bloodline did go “poof.” Rollins said he would win the World title but as he spoke, Heyman was suddenly on a phone call.
Rollins encouraged the fans to sing his song so Heyman wouldn’t be able to hear Reigns on the phone. Heyman warned Rollins that he was pissing off the Tribal Chief. Rollins laughed that off.
Rollins asked the crowd how long they thought it would take him to drop Heyman on the mat and stomp him. Rollins began counting down when Sikoa marched out.
Heyman held back Sikoa. Heyman said the Bloodline were pulling strings right now and by the time they got back from commercial, a match would be official for tonight: Sikoa against Rollins. Rollins said they didn’t have to wait and he accepted.
********
Adam Pearce greeted Cody Rhodes as he arrived at the arena earlier tonight. Pearce said Brock Lesnar was there but it was a big night and he didn’t want it to spiral into chaos. Rhodes smiled and kept walking.
********
Non-title match: Bayley & Dakota Kai defeated Women’s Tag Team Champions Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan (8:05)
The first match of the night started at 8:30pm and they went to break less than two minutes into it.
Kai gave Morgan a flipping backcracker but Rodriguez broke up the cover. Bayley held Rodriguez as Kai booted her from the ring. Morgan gave Kai a Codebreaker but Bayley made a blind tag and she rolled up Morgan for the pinfall win.
********
Pearce approached Lesnar earlier tonight and asked him to keep the peace. Lesnar chuckled and responded, “Good luck with that.”
There was a video package of Lesnar destroying Rhodes weeks ago.
********
Booker T and Sharmelle entered to make the picks for Raw and Smackdown respectively.
WWE Draft Round 2
Round 2, Pick 1: Raw selected Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (Tag Team Champions)
Round 2, Pick 2: Smackdown selected Jimmy & Jey Uso
Round 2, Pick 3: Raw selected Judgment Day – Finn Bálor, Damian Priest, Dominik Mysterio
Round 2, Pick 4: Smackdown selected LWO – Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, Zelina Vega, Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde
Not many changes so far and the Usos remain with Reigns and Sikoa on Smackdown.
********
Braun Strowman & Ricochet defeated Alpha Academy (w/Maxxine Dupri) (2:29)
Ricochet shined for a bit before Chad Gable gave him a Chaos Theory suplex. The two big men tagged in to the delight of the crowd and Strowman got the better of their exchange, dropping Otis with a crossbody and a body slam. Ricochet did a great-looking senton bomb off Strowman’s shoulders for the pinfall win (over Otis).
********
Shawn Michaels and Adam Pearce were shown exiting the Raw and Smackdown “war rooms.” Pearce walked out of his room like it was meant to be a big reveal as if we don’t see him 20 times on every show.
[SECOND HOUR]
There was a video package for Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest. (They added bad sound effects to emphasize Bad Bunny’s kendo stick shots.)
WWE Draft Round 3 Brock Lesnar/Cody Rhodes segment
Michaels and Pearce entered to make the next picks but Brock Lesnar’s music interrupted. Lesnar marched out and Michaels seemed amused while Pearce panicked. Pearce tried reasoning with Lesnar but Lesnar shot him a look and he backed off.
Lesnar asked Fort Worth what it felt like to be looking at the only real cowboy in the state.
Pearce interrupted him and asked that he leave as a dozen security guards ran out. Lesnar said it would take more men than that, so Pearce called out even more guards.
Cody Rhodes’ music hit. Rhodes appeared from behind and decked Lesnar, knocking him down with one punch. Lesnar watched from the ramp as security swarmed. Rhodes tried escaping but there were too many of them. Lesnar backed away down the ramp and wiped away blood from the punch. Lesnar smirked as Rhodes screamed, “Make me earn it!”

WWE Draft Round 3
Round 3, Pick 1: Raw selected Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan (Women’s Tag Team Champions)
Round 3, Pick 2: Smackdown selected Asuka
Round 3, Pick 3: Raw selected Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston
Round 3, Pick 4: Smackdown selected Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch
When Morgan and Rodriguez were selected, Corey Graves said, “The women’s tag team champions will be able to defend their titles on Monday night,” so take that for what it’s worth.
********
In the back, Riddle told Owens and Zayn that they all got drafted to Raw which meant they could hang out all the time. Owens didn’t seem thrilled.
Matt Riddle (w/Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn) defeated Jimmy Uso (w/Jey Uso) (7:43)
Jey Uso immediately interfered behind the referee’s back so he was confronted by Owens. Owens and Zayn then did the Eddie Guerrero trick on Jey. Owens fell and acted hurt while Zayn chucked a chair into Jey’s hand. Zayn showed the result to the ref who tossed Jey from ringside.
Back from a break, Jimmy fought back by shoving Riddle off the top to the outside before superkicking Owens. Jimmy caught Riddle with superkicks for consecutive two counts.
Jimmy untied a turnbuckle cover and Zayn jumped on the apron to complain. With the ref distracted, Owens drove Jimmy’s head into the exposed turnbuckle before Riddle hit a knee strike and floating bro for the pinfall win.
********
There was an IYO SKY video package.
Eric Bischoff and RVD were shown leaving the Raw and Smackdown war rooms. RVD led Elias and Rick Boogs in doing his pose along with him.
Jey Uso approached Heyman and Sikoa and asked why Sikoa wasn’t at their brother’s side tonight. Heyman said Sikoa had an assignment to exterminate a clown and he needed to concentrate. It seemed like Jey wanted to stick around with them backstage but Heyman left with Sikoa.
********
Bischoff and RVD entered to make the next selections. They shook hands. The crowd chanted for RVD.
WWE Draft Round 4
Round 4, Pick 1: Raw selected Trish Stratus
Round 4, Pick 2: Smackdown selected Karrion Kross & Scarlett
Round 4, Pick 3: Raw selected Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler
Round 4, Pick 4: Smackdown selected LA Knight
********
Miz TV with guest Shinsuke Nakamura
Miz recapped Raw’s draft picks and introduced Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura entered to a good reaction and Miz ran down his accolades. Miz asked Nakamura if he thought he could win the World title and Nakamura simply smiled and said, “Hi.”
Miz wasn’t sure what to make of that. Miz went ahead and ran down his own accolades and called himself the epitome of a workhorse. Miz suggested they join forces.
Nakamura had a nickname in Japanese for Miz and they chanted it together. Miz was happy until Nakamura revealed it meant, “the guy with tiny balls.”
Miz tried to attack but Nakamura ducked and hit Kinshasa.
********
Omos (w/MVP) defeated Anthony Alanis (0:48)
Omos won with a tree slam.
********

Judgment Day promo
Damian Priest was happy to announce that Judgment Day were remaining together on Raw and the first pick of the night was our champion, Rhea Ripley.
Ripley said there was no surprise because “Mami is always on top.” Ripley said Judgment Day ran Monday Night Raw and Zelina Vega would regret everything she’s done to her when she turns her into a pretzel.
Bálor said Ripley would flick Vega like a hot snot while Priest would leave pieces of Bad Bunny all over Puerto Rico.
Priest had a message for Bad Bunny and delivered the promo in Spanish. Priest referred to Bad Bunny by “Benito” (his name) and ended by saying Benito would receive his punishment at Backlash.
Dom said one word and was immediately drowned out by booing. Dom tried to cut his promo but the crowd booed louder and louder. Dom said he couldn’t wait to see Ripley and Priest dominate at Backlash. Dom went on and got just an insane amount of heat. Dom issued a warning to LWO.
Rey Mysterio, Zelina Vega and Santos Escobar entered. Rey was glad they wouldn’t be on the same brand. If Dom thought getting whipped by a belt at WrestleMania was bad, he should just be glad he didn’t get beat with “la chancla.” (That got a big cheer.)
Rey looked forward to seeing Vega win the title in Puerto Rico and looked forward to Bad Bunny beating Priest. Rey said Judgment Day would get smacked right now by the LWO.
********
There was a Gunther video package.
Six-person tag team match: Smackdown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, Damian Priest & Dominik Mysterio (w/Finn Bálor) defeated Zelina Vega, Rey Mysterio & Santos Escobar (8:50)
Rey wiped out Priest with a seated senton off the apron which led to break.
Rey and Dom tagged in after a break and Rey went to town on his son. Rey hit a springboard crossbody but Ripley broke up the cover and decked Vega. Ripley was about to chuck Rey from the ring but Vega hit Ripley in the mid-section with a 619.
Priest tagged in but ran into the ring post and Rey dropped him on the middle rope. Bálor distracted the ref while Dom tripped Rey. Escobar wiped out Dom with a suicide dive, Ripley dropkicked Escobar, and Vega gave Ripley a Meteora.
Rey went for the 619 again but Bálor stepped up on the apron to take the bullet for Priest. This allowed Priest to hit Rey with his South of Heaven chokeslam for the pinfall win.
********
Cathy Kelley asked Rhodes if Lesnar was in his head. Rhodes said Lesnar has been in his head since the night after WrestleMania. Rhodes said Lesnar was a free agent but he had to be in the ring with him on Saturday.
Rhodes said he had to win at Backlash because if he didn’t, the idea of finishing the story would cease to exist and he would have to go to the back of the line. Rhodes refused to ever go to the back of the line.
********
There will be a live Backlash press conference at noon on Friday airing on the Network.
Byron Saxton interviewed Bianca Belair. Belair said it didn’t matter which brand she was on but planned on representing the blue brand despite still having love for Raw. She was about to move on to SKY when she was interrupted by Damage CTRL. Bayley said Belair would feel blue after losing to SKY.
Belair said she was excited when SKY debuted but she’s been held back by two females who have done nothing. Belair was excited to see SKY step up and shine — after Belair beat her at Backlash. SKY cut a promo on her in Japanese. Kai was about to translate but Belair cut her off and said, “IYO and I, we understand each other.”

This was the final televised round of the draft. Final picks will be made on Raw Talk.
WWE Draft Round 6
Round 6, Pick 1: Raw selected Chad Gable & Otis
Round 6, Pick 2: Smackdown selected Rick Boogs
Round 6, Pick 3: Raw selected NXT’s Katana Chance & Kayden Carter
Round 6, Pick 4: Smackdown selected Cameron Grimes
Graves noted that Maxxine Dupri was also drafted to Raw (so her storyline with Alpha Academy will continue).
Katana Chance and Kayden Carter were shown at the PC very excited about being picked but their celebration was cut short when they were confronted by Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.
Xavier Woods cut a short selfie promo saying New Day would bring new life to Raw.

Seth Rollins defeated Solo Sikoa (w/Paul Heyman) via disqualification (10:43)
Sikoa took control ahead of a break with a spinning heel kick but Rollins came back after the break with an enziguri, chops, fists, a forearm, clotheslines, a thrust kick, another clothesline and three consecutive suicide dives. Sikoa ducked a springboard knee and hit a Samoan drop for two.
Rollins applied a schoolboy for two and hit a superkick but Sikoa countered a forearm into a Spinning Solo for two. Rollins slapped Sikoa and laughed at him so Sikoa gave him another Spinning Solo. Sikoa hammered away at Rollins until the ref made him stop. (They said it would be a DQ otherwise.)
Sikoa went after Rollins outside the ring but Rollins posted him. Rollins followed with strikes but the Usos attacked him for the DQ.
Owens, Zayn and Riddle immediately ran out to make the save and everyone brawled as the show quickly went off the air.

Monday Update

Bryan and I will be back tonight covering Raw, the draft and the rest of the news as well as take your email questions that you can send to [email protected]
The draft did a monster TV number for Smackdown. While not the highest of the year, when you factor in the competition, it probably was the most impressive number. Similarly, one would expect a big number tonight for draft day two as you’ve still got Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and the Usos along with Brock Lesnar (who one would think with Roman Reigns on Smackdown that Lesnar would be on Raw as will as Seth Rollins for tonight’s show. The show goes against 76ers-Celtics and Suns-Heat in the NBA playoffs and New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers in the NHL playoffs.
Raw is sold out in Fort Worth tonight with 10,405 tickets out. The only thing advertised besides the draft is that Brock Lesnar will be there, and no doubt shoot some kind of an angle with Cody Rhodes. Matt Riddle vs. Jimmy Uso is on the show plus Miz TV with Shinsuke Nakamura, meaning Miz will be on both USA and NBC tonight. This makes a legit four sellouts for WWE this week for WWE, between Belfast, Paris and Corpus Christi.
Besides the draft, the other big story for this week will be AEW ticket sales for Wembley Stadium. The best tickets will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to those who have FITE’s AEW service in the country, the subscription service where you get Dynamite free and Rampage at the same time it airs in the U.S. At 11 a.m., those who got presale codes will have the opportunity to get tickets. Between those two groups, there are 60,000 people with individual codes. What that translates to in sales is a great unknown. But it would be a surprise if this doesn’t end up being the second most tickets sold for a pro wrestling show in England in history (if they top 18,800 they will have that distinction. If they top 33,000 by Friday’s public on sale it will be No. 2 in history in the U.K., behind the 1992 show at Wembley Stadium. But everything in wrestling is watching that number closely.
We’re looking for reports from Raw tonight in Fort Worth with Main Event matches, any dark matches and anything else not on the live show to [email protected]
Leva Bates announced today that she is no longer with AEW as her four-year contract has expired.
WESH-TV in Orlando has reported that the city is making a bid to get the 2024 Royal Rumble. The Tourist Development Tax Sports incentive Committee has requested $850,000 from the Greater Orlando Sports Commission to bid for the event. The show will be on January 27, 2024. It will be at Camping World Stadium if they get the bid.
The New York Times is reporting that VICE is headed for bankruptcy. VICE produces among other things, Dark Side of the Ring. (thanks to Mike Kuzmuk)
Felipe Colares, 29, who fought in UFC from 2019 to 2022, died early today after being hit by a bus on his way back from the gym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He died on the way to the hospital but there are not a lot of other details.
A lot of major league baseball players were at Friday night’s Arena Mexico show. The San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres played the first two regular season games ever in Mexico City this weekend. Yesterday on the Giants radio broadcast they talked about how many of the players went out to the wrestling matches. The players were acknowledged during the show. WWE sent Rey Mysterio and he gave masks to the Padres players. Isaac Paredes and Randy Arozarena of Tampa Bay wore Mistico masks at one of their games.
The Miz and Alexa Bliss will be on “That’s my Jam” tonight on NBC at 10 p.m., so they are performing head-to-head with Raw. Miz will perform “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” by Usher.
Rey Fenix, who had been banged up, returned to the ring last night at his own show in Pasadena, CA in the parking lot of the Republic of Lucha Store that he and Pentagon own. They run shows there with name stars every so often. Fenix beat Mike Bailey in what we heard was a great main event. It was also the 17th anniversary of Penta & Fenix in wrestling and there was a cake presented, and that led to a food fight. (thanks to Jeff Rosenfeld).
Fenix returns to Dynamite on Wednesday in a trios Battle Royal with Penta & Fenix & El Hijo del Vikingo, Butcher & Blade & Kip Sabian, Alex Reynolds & John Silver & Evil Uno, QT Marshall & Aaron Solo & Powerhouse Hobbs, Acclaimed & Billy Gunn and Josh Woods & Ari Daivari & Tony Nese
NXT tomorrow night has Wes Lee vs Drew Gulak for the North American title, Joe Gacy vs. Joe Coffey (If Gacy wins, the Dyad get a tag title shot at Gallus, if Coffey wins, the Dyad can’t ever get a shot as long as Gallus is champions), Jacy Jayne vs. Gigi Dolin (whose brother will be introduced), Isla Dawn & Alba Fyre vs. Katana Chance & Kayden Carter for the women’s tag title, Axiom vs. Scrypts and Dani Palmer debuts.
WWE last night in Bossier City, LA:
- Shinsuke Nakamura b LA Knight
- Omos b Elias
- Solo Sikoa b Sheamus
- Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan b Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green to keep the tag titles
- Xavier Woods b Karrion Kross
- Ricochet b Ivar
- Rhea Ripley b Shotzi to keep the Smackdown women’s title
- Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn b Usos to keep the tag titles
New Japan Dontaku is at 4:30 a.m. Eastern early Wednesday morning from Fukuoka. It’s an annual traditionally big show always this week with Sanada making his first IWGP title defense against Hiromu Takahashi in a battle of heavyweight champion vs. junior heavyweight champion, Tama Tonga vs. David Finlay for the Never title, KENTA vs. Hikuleo for the Strong title, Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Jeff Cobb for the TV title and Minoru Suzuki & Ren Narita & Desperado vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii for the trios titles. This would be one of the biggest trios title matches in New Japan history.
Just a note about a book I’m now reading which will be out in the fall. I mentioned it on last night’s show and it’s called “Ballyhoo! The Roughousers, Con Artists and Wildmen Who Invented Professional Wrestling by Jon Langmead, being published by the University of Missouri Press. It looks at the beginnings of pro wrestling, with a lot of the 1930s boom period when it got big and the decline in the late 30s, looking at the key wrestlers, promoters, how the promoters worked together and feuded and what fans bought and didn’t buy. There are aspects totally different from the modern business, but in other aspects, as far as what draws and the conflict in fan bases, there are a surprising amount of similarities.
Roy “Big Country” Nelson, a former UFC favorite, will fight on Friday night in a Bare Knuckle MMA (not boxing) event in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It will be a three round fight with Nelson vs Dillon Clecker and will air free at 8 p.m. on Gamebred Promotions YouTube channel and Facebook page. They will use MMA rules but no gloves are allowed, which is actually similar to the original UFC events except with more modern rules.
Big E was shown on the sidelines during last night’s Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals USFL game. Big E hosts the Panthers games this season. (thanks to Brian Henke)
Myself and a lot of people in wrestling got a scam letter from Bob Mulrenin, who was a photographer in wrestling who passed way last year. If you have it in your inbox , don’t waste time with it.
