Surprising name makes WWE 2K26 debut, features unique entrance

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has been added to WWE 2K26.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is the latest addition to the list of playable wrestlers in WWE’s current video game, 2K26. Featuring his own unique entrance, fans can now use Zelnick in their gameplay.

The Take-Two CEO uses Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” as his entrance song, which is also exclusive to him and cannot be used by other superstars.

Zelnick is also rated a 77 overall, which is surprisingly higher than Johnny Gargano, Retro CM Punk, 1997 Eddie Guerrero, Syxx, and a few other WWE wrestlers.

His addition comes to the game just hours after Zelnick spoke to IGN about the success of 2K26 and his intentions of ensuring the video game’s future quality.

Strauss Zelnick wants to improve WWE 2K video game’s quality

Recently speaking to IGN, the Take-Two CEO opened up about his intentions of improving the video game series’ overall quality.

“I do think there’s ongoing opportunities to improve the quality of the game. I do think that we can give consumers more of what they want, and I know our team at Visual Concepts always wants to do better. We’re never in the business of patting ourselves on the back. We believe that arrogance is the enemy of continued success, and I think that title could be double or triple the size that it is as long as we delight consumers, and as long as we give them something new and not expected that’s consistent with the brand that they love. That’s our job.”

Take-Two CEO proud of WWE 2K26 performance, wants to ensure quality

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently opened up about WWE 2K26’s success as well as his team’s motive of ensuring future quality.

Previously with Yuke’s, WWE 2K became a part of the Visual Concepts/Take-Two banner since 2019, with annual video game releases every year except 2021. Following a disastrous WWE 2K20, the game followed it up with well-loved WWE 2K22 and has done it every year since then. Their latest release, 2K26, received major positive reviews, with several new in-game modes and improvements added.

Recently speaking to IGN, Zelnick opened up about WWE 2K26’s recent performance and reviews. “We’re very proud of Metacritic score, we’re proud of how the title performed. We have great partners at TKO led by Nick Khan, and of course everything related to WWE continues to grow,” he said. “The team over there is just crushing it. So we’re thrilled to be in business with TKO and WWE.”

Although, despite the game’s performance and reviews, Zelnick believes there are still improvements to be made.

Similarly, like every year, WWE 2K27 is expected to release around March, 2027.

Jordynne Grace reveals she is actively pushing for Paul Heyman angle

Jordynne Grace has revealed that she is “actively pushing” to become the first ever Paul Heyman Girl. It’s something that is covered in the MyRise story on WWE 2K26, but it appears as though she is desperate to actually make it happen on television.

Speaking to Aussie Heat PW, the former TNA Knockouts Champion revealed just how hard she is trying to push for Paul Heyman to become her mouthpiece:

“I’m actively pushing for it. My dream is to be a Paul Heyman girl, the first ever. So, [I’m] actively pushing for it. I’m messaging all the writers about it. All I need is someone like him and I’ll shoot straight to the top.”

Jordynne Grace as a Paul Heyman Girl

Grace is now on the SmackDown brand after officially joining the company in January 2025. It was clear prior to that how much WWE wanted her in the company, with Grace making multiple appearances on WWE programming whilst still the TNA Knockouts Champ at the time (both on NXT and at the Royal Rumble).

There’s currently no indication that WWE are going with a Heyman/Grace alignment in the near future, but it is clearly something that Grace wants and it would absolutely help her on the main roster.

Is the Paul Heyman Girl storyline happening on WWE TV?

No, not yet anyway. The pairing features in the MyRise mode of WWE 2K26, but there’s no indication WWE is moving in that direction on television. Grace’s comments make clear she’s lobbying writers directly, but a pitch from talent isn’t the same as a creative plan.

What brand is Jordynne Grace on?

She’s currently on the SmackDown roster.

When did Jordynne Grace sign with WWE?

Grace officially joined WWE in January 2025 after her TNA contract expired. She’d already been appearing on WWE programming before then, including a run on NXT and a spot in the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble while still the reigning TNA Knockouts Champion.

WWE 2K26 review: More improvements, new issues

The Road to WrestleMania is upon us, and it means it’s time for the yearly WWE 2K game to grace fans with its presence. Yes, WWE 2K26 is set to hit the ring for this year’s edition and unlike the actual Road to Mania this year, it’s a game that manages to excite players as usual, but not without its fair share of issues that keep it from being a Hall of Fame-worthy experience.

Look In My Eyes, What Do You See?

WWE 2K26’s in-ring action does remain largely the same from previous years, but new additions include a new debuff that appears when your stamina runs out completely. This meter essentially locks you out of reversing moves, so careful strategizing will be prioritized over spamming moves over and over again. Expanded combat on barricades and the inclusion of corner springboard attacks add to the variety of ways you can dish out pain.

And speaking of “dishing out pain,” WWE 2K26 adds a new bevy of weapons to the chaos, with thumbtacks being the most notable of them. For an added touch, the thumbtacks remain stuck on wrestlers who take bumps on them. These weapons now work in tandem with the reintroduction of weapons physics and even some ragdolling, especially on falls from high distances. This is none more evident in the new Backstage Brawl environment known as The Scrapyard which seemed to be designed with the new physics in mind. This environment features many high ledges where wrestlers can throw each other from great distances to create some truly insane high spots, along with several weapons ready for your use at your disposal. While those high-danger spots are fun to pull off, nothing beats the simple joy of delivering a powerbomb on the side of some steel steps.

There’s four new matches that add to the growing number of match types already present from previous games. Three Stages of Hell, which we recently saw play out on SmackDown early in the year, is basically a more extreme ⅔ falls match where you can pick unique match stipulations per “Stage”. With damage taken retaining through each stage, this match type truly lives up to its hellish namesake.

“I Quit” matches make their return to the franchise with a new mechanic. At various points during the match, you can get the ref to ask your foe to say those two infamous words, triggering a mini game where a wrestler on the verge of quitting has to prevent a meter from draining completely by hitting green markers within a circle. The more damage you take, the tougher it is to avoid the meter from draining. A neat touch is that a few WWE wrestlers have unique lines tied to this match on top from the generic voices heard.

The Inferno match is also back, where the goal is to set your opponent on fire. The ring is surrounded by fire and moves performed will fill a meter that causes the fire to shoot up completely once filled. Then it’s a matter of dragging your opponent to the fire to set them alight for the win. For added chaos, you can freely leave the ring before the fire reaches full Inferno and grab weapons to make these fiery encounters feel even more brutal.

Last and probably least, is the Dumpster Match, which is just literally the previously-introduced Casket Match, but with a dumpster instead of a casket. It’s nice for those that want some variety, but it’s otherwise nothing to write home about.

Presentation-wise, the game truly shines as it feels more like a true-to-life WWE broadcast than ever before. Before matches there’s now a degree of control where you can blast pyro at will or hit a couple of preset taunts. It’s not necessarily game-changing, per se, but does make for some entertaining moments when, say, Seth Rollins’ usual entrance strut is occasionally broken up by him doing a few “crybaby” emotes randomly.

This emphasis on presentation extends to even the start of the matches, where players can choose to shake their opponent’s hands (or deliver a devious cheapshot), engage in a little chain wrestling action, or even just rush them down. It helps make the matches in WWE 2K26 feel even more like their real-life counterparts.

Commentary sees Wade Barrett and Booker T join Michael Cole and Corey Graves to call the action, and I have to say, this commentary quartet is really good in the game. Of the two new additions, Barrett’s commentary is the strongest and you can tell he had a lot of fun recording his lines.

Still, it’s not all perfect when it comes to presentation, as while wrestler models can look really good, some still look a bit off and long hair physics still remains a persistent issue, even with the move to current-gen only for these games.

“Do I Have Everyone’s Attention Now?”

Showcase is front and centre once again, with cover star CM Punk being the focus this year. Players will play through some of Punk’s greatest WWE matches, as well as some fantasy contests that casts Punk in “what if” scenarios. If you’re familiar with the Showcase format, then you’ll know how it works: complete specific objectives before winning the match to unlock arenas and wrestlers – most of which are Punk variations. It’s not exactly what I’d call “fun”, especially if you’re halfway through and you’re asked to hit a certain amount of moves on Punk’s foe for what feels like the 100th time. At the very least, cutscenes between matches that feature Punk’s insights on the particular match you’re about to compete in are well-done.

For those not wanting to go through that busywork, there’s a 20-man gauntlet that can be played instead. This is an alternate way to get all of the Showcase unlockables, but be warned, it’s automatically set to the game’s hardest difficulty, and it’s designed to see if you’ve got what it takes to be called “Best in the World”.

MyRise is back once more and as the title of this year’s edition indicates, it’s all about “The Comeback,” where you take your created male or female wrestler on a journey back to the top after two years away. Story branches throughout this mode allow you to make your wrestler a face or a heel and offers up unique rewards, most of which are earned through so-called “Rise Matches” that you complete to progress to the next part of the story. It’s relatively short compared to previous MyRise stories, but I liked the story and the voice acting, particularly from the main player(s) which was well done.

The Creation Suite, a perennial favorite among fans, has seen the biggest benefit from WWE 2K26 moving to current-gen consoles only. Now with 200 create-a-wrestler slots to play with, as well as the return of body morphing and two-tone hairstyles, plus improved layers, there’s more ways for players to create the wrestler of their dreams as they see fit. Unfortunately, that same level of attention for Create-a-Superstar doesn’t seem to be evident in Create-an-Arena, where the only notable changes are the addition of LED barricades and a large library of ring aprons from past WWE events.

Universe Mode, the popular sandbox for players to create their own shows and let things play out however they see fit, has definitely seen quite a few improvements. A new “Creation Wizard” allows players to shape their Universe even before the action truly begins, with PLE schedules, rosters, and base champions being able to be set in stone. The WWE Draft now appears as a week-long event in Universe Mode and can also similarly be edited to your heart’s desire. This, on top of additions to the promo system and Money in the Bank cash-ins, make it feel like the developers have listened to those wanting to see tangible change in Universe Mode.

The best new addition to Universe Mode, however, is the “Watch Show” feature, which allows players to experience their Universe’s shows as if they were watching a real WWE program. The broadcast camera angle with cuts to action shots really help to add to how lifelike Watch Show can feel at times.

MyGM is back for more with expanded seasons that can run up to 50 weeks, on top of being able to book an even wider variety of matches in order to prove your superiority as the greatest General Manager in offline, online, and even against the computer.

An Island of Issues

There’s tons to like about WWE 2K26, yes, but as mentioned earlier, it’s not all smooth sailing. A lot of that comes down to modes introduced in this game and WWE 2K25, namely The Island and the Ringside Pass.

For better or worse, The Island makes its return in WWE 2K26 and it’s seen some changes. When you enter The Island, there are now cutscenes as opposed to just dialogue screens. They anchor a story of three warring factions looking to take control of The Island after last year’s events: one led by Punk, another by Rhea Ripley, and the third under Cody Rhodes’ command. Even with that change, a lot of the issues I had with The Island’s introduction in WWE 2K25 persists – namely the fact that a lot of creation items are locked to this mod. The story for The Island is fine, but between the constant lags I experienced and needing to plunk down real-world money to make your Island wrestler better or get all the mode-exclusive cosmetics, I’m still not a fan.

The other “big” monetization pit is MyFaction. Intergender support is new for this go-around, as is a chemistry system that takes into account certain attributes amongst your MyFaction roster to determine the team’s overall chemistry. Quick Swap matches are essentially a wrestling version of fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom, where you can swap in your team members out with a push of a button, complete with a nice teleportation animation. Other than that, your enjoyment of MyFaction will boil down on how much you can tolerate these “Ultimate Team” style of modes in sports games and how much of a grind you’re willing to commit to to get the absolute best cards for your faction without spending real-world money on currency.

Of course, we have to talk about the huge new elephant in the room introduced in WWE 2K26, and that’s the Ringside Pass system. Taking inspiration from Fortnite-style Battlepass mechanics, this replaces the former DLC pack model of previous games. Here, players will have to grind across several modes to earn points to unlock new wrestlers, title belts, and other assorted goodies through various seasons. The first “season” centers on the WWE-owned AAA and some of its stars, with Mr. Iguana and Vikingo included among the unlockables.

The Ringside Pass has understandably gotten a mixed reaction from fans, especially those opposed to a Battlepass format for unlockables. And I have to say, I tend to agree with those reactions, especially considering how big a grind is being asked of players. This seems more designed for the hardcore WWE 2K players who can spend long hours grinding to unlock more and more from the Pass. And even then, the painfully slow rate the RXP bar fills will make this grind a very long one. That’s not even getting into the fact that the game seems like it’s subtly pushing players to buy tier skips to just unlock everything. In short, this Ringside Pass system sets a precedent that may turn away players from future games if it becomes something permanent moving forward.

Final Verdict

Even with that, it’s hard to say that the in-ring experience of WWE 2K26 hasn’t improved from previous years. It seems that Visual Concepts has refined the style of wrestling it has been working on since WWE 2K22 and it shows with what 2K26 offers under the hood. As the only game in town when it comes to major wrestling video games, it’s still clearly the cream of the crop. But the increasing turn towards microtransactions in The Island, MyFaction, and Ringside Pass is still very concerning and could very well threaten the franchise’s overall popularity in the near future.

Pros

  • Nails the little things almost perfectly
  • In-ring action more refined than ever
  • Universe Mode’s freedom even better than ever
  • Presentation at its best, with commentary even better
  • Ragdoll and weapons physics

Cons

  • Showcase Mode still feels like a chore
  • Ringside Pass will be a huge turnoff for casual players
  • Microtransactions have increased
  • Graphics could be better, especially on some wrestler likenesses

Days before the official WWE 2K26 worldwide launch, 2K released their new set of patch 1.04 update.

Days after the early access release and the patch 1.03 update, developers have now come forward with the brand new patch 1.04, which has brought improvements to the overall gameplay performance and stability alongside changes for Ringside Pass.

The following notes are from 2K26’s official support website:

  • Minimum match time requirement added for Match Win RXP rewards – If a match is completed faster than 60 seconds, players will receive completion RXP, but not additional win bonuses.

Some of the other updates that patch 1.04 will fix are:

  • Gameplay stability and performance improvements
  • Addressed reported concerns over the 2K account linking occasionally not working

The updates went live for PS5, Xbox Series X, and Steam on March 11, 2026, while Nintendo Switch 2 players need to wait till March 30 for the update to become live.

Early access players can enjoy the game while Standard edition players need to wait till March 13, 2026, for the game to officially release.

Booker T addresses new WWE 2K26 commentary role

After years of being included as an in-ring character, Booker T recently became a part of WWE 2K26’s commentary team and opened up about the experience.

Booker T and Barrett have joined this year’s 2K26’s commentary team alongside the original names, Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton.

In a new video shared by 2K26 as a part of their promotion campaign, T opened up on his experience as a video game commentator.

Man, it’s been an awesome experience working with 2K, finally getting my voice in the game. I think I bit off a little more than I could chew, though. I know it’s more reading than I’ve ever done in my life. I use a lot of the quotes from the video game on NXT, so it’s actually pretty cool. ‘No bread, no water, just meat!’ As well as, ‘It’s all about checks and championships!’

I’ve had a great career, so many people remember me from my wrestling career. So many kids come up to me now and they recognize me from being a commentator, and a lot of them didn’t even know I was a wrestler,” the former World Champion said. “So now in the video game, I’m immortalized as a commentator, so I think it’s pretty awesome.”

Occasionally found fulfilling his commenting duties on the main roster, T is a regular name on NXT alongside Vic Joseph.

After years away from WWE 2K video games, Jeff and Matt Hardy are set to be back.

Hours before the early access launch, WWE 2K26 uploaded a video on their social media announcing the return of The Hardys to the video game franchise.

“Jeff and I [Matt Hardy] are very excited to announce that the goats, Matt and Jeff, The Hardys, The Hardy Boyz are officially in WWE’s 2K26.”

“We are joining the roster with season 4 Ringside Pass, coming in July,” Jeff Hardy added. Matt Hardy was last seen in WWE 2K20 while Jeff Hardy was last part of WWE 2K22.

Wrestling legend added to WWE 2K26 video game

Wrestling legend Brian Pillman is set to be a part of the WWE 2K26 video game.

In less than a week, WWE 2K26 will be available for players to play all across. Boasting one of the largest rosters of all-time with 400 characters, this year’s edition will also include Pillman as a playable character.

Pillman’s son and WWE NXT wrestler Lexis King shared an update on his father’s addition in the game.

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a dream of mine to reclaim my birthright and take what belongs to me in the WWE, and that dream is quickly becoming a reality because I just heard through the grapevine that the WWE 2K26 Ringside Pass number three is going to include the legendary Brian Pillman,” King said.

That’s right. You’re gonna get to play as me, you’re gonna get to play as my father, and you’re gonna get to play with us as a tag team, and of course, you’re gonna make us the tag team champions because it belongs to us and it is my birthright.”

Known widely for his time in WCW and ECW, Pillman also enjoyed a short stint at WWE (then known as WWF), where he feuded with Stone Cold Steve Austin and formed an alliance with The Hart Foundation. After a successful career, Pillman passed away in 1997.

New WWE 2K26 features & unlockables revealed

With less than a month left for WWE 2K26’s release, the promotion recently hosted the Creator Fest, ahead of which several new details about the game were revealed.

The recently released Ringside Report focused on WWE 2K26’s MyRise campaign mode. This year’s MyRise mode will offer players a single campaign to play, either as a male or female Superstar, known as ‘The Archetype.’ Themed as ‘The Comeback,’ the story will have players create Superstar’s return to WWE, only to come face-to-face with Paul Heyman’s clients, Bron Breakker/Jordynne Grace.

This year’s MyRise mode advances its predecessor’s Live Event Match system into the brand-new RISE matches. Instead of acting as bonus matches, RISE matches will blend into the story’s main progression timeline. Completing these matches will help the players progress as well as earn unlockables.

Unlike the previous games, this year’s MyRise does not end at the campaign’s conclusion. Instead, it gives players the free authority to continue their career, challenge for titles, or defend them.

This year, there are several rewards for completing both journeys, including new playable characters, MyFACTION content, weapons, arenas, and more. Some of the unlockable playable characters include Dusty Rhodes, Bronze Breakker, Juggernaut Grace, ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt, CM Punk from the indies, and several more. The reward list also includes unlockable MyRise characters from the previous games.

The recently concluded Creator Fest, which took place, was attended by streamers, content creators, journalists, and even WWE wrestlers.

CM Punk, Chelsea Green, Xavier Woods, Trish Stratus, Blake Monroe, Ethan Page, and more WWE stars were present at the event, attending interviews, meet & greets, and gaming sessions. Content from the Creator Fest is expected to launch soon after the embargo begins.

WWE 2K26 will release on March 6th, 2026, on PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).

Xavier Woods on his behind-the-scenes involvement in WWE 2K series

Xavier Woods is a huge video game fan — and he even has some behind-the-scenes involvement in the WWE 2K series.

The next installment of the series, WWE 2K26, is set to be released on March 13. During a press event to promote the game, Woods appeared on Busted Open Radio and was asked if 2K has ever reached out to him seeking his input on how to make the game better. Woods noted that he and Tyler Breeze coordinate with 2K every year on how to improve the MyGM mode, which Woods and Breeze have long been fans of.

“Oh, definitely. There’s a mode in it called MyGM, and so that’s essentially like a text-based, you’re booking the show. And then the show simulates and it tells you how good it was,” Woods said. “You can fantasy book and then the computer figures out who wins and loses and then you book the show from there.

“Tyler Breeze and I loved this mode. It was in the 2006 version of the game until 2008, then it went away. So we would play this old version of the game for years. And then, eventually, 2K put it back in because people were loving that so much. And now me and him are like a staple for that. So they talk to us, we talk to them, we talk to the community that plays on how to increase the value of that aspect of the game every year.”

Woods and Breeze operate the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel for WWE, which is focused on gaming and has nearly 2.5 million subscribers.

CM Punk is the official cover star for WWE 2K26, with there also being alternative covers for the Attitude Era, Monday Night War, and Triple H “King of Kings” versions.

AJ Lee reacts to her inclusion in WWE 2K26

AJ Lee will return to video game form next month.

For the first time since leaving the company in 2015, Lee will be featured in a WWE video game when WWE 2K26 is released.

Lee posted to Instagram Stories:

“Secretly got scanned for @wwegames a few months back. Game AJ looks so legit. 14-year-old AJ’s mind is still blown to go from Character Creation menu to an actual playable character in two different decades of 2k haha what is life”

The last time Lee was a playable character in the series was WWE 2K15. Two versions of Lee will be available in the upcoming release, including both a modern version and a 2015 version. The classic version will be an unlockable character in Showcase Mode, which this year will focus on her husband, CM Punk.

WWE 2K26 will be released to the general public on March 13, with early access beginning March 6 for customers who purchase a premium edition pre-order.
